I know people nowadays are probably sick of seeing her with all the beauty and fashion merch around that depicts her and/or Marilyn Monroe but she is considered a classic Hollywood beauty for a reason. Ironically in her day she was more of the alternative beauty when compared to many of her contemporaries. She always came off with such elegance and grace, and she was so charming. Apparently she was a delight to work with considering how many of her co-stars had wonderful things to say about her. Outside of her beauty and acting ability she was immensely kind. She helped raise funds for the Dutch resistance during WWII by putting on underground dance performances as well as volunteering at hospitals and other small things to help the resistance. During her Hollywood career and later years she worked with UNICEF a lot. Just an all around beautiful person both inside and out.

No one could wear clothes in this era like she could. She was every major designer's favorite star and as such her films are time capsules of high fashion at the time. But beyond that, she had such an elegance in her screen presence that belied a broad range of ability. From a naive princess, to a confused widow, to a loving and mischievous daughter, she could play it all.

ok here's the hot goss from the nycc taz gn panel
i don't actually know whether or not it was recorded/ if they're going to put it online so here is my summary. also if i miss anything and u were there pls feel free to chime in. spoilers obviously!!!
got eight new preview pages (four two-page spreads), not the pages on the macmillan website!!!
ok i will tell u about those pages but the main thing discussed at the panel was how they went about adapting this arc into gn form. the actual time spent in wonderland has been trimmed a lot bc they had to think about what was actually important to the narrative as they are building to story and song.
basically in planning out the suffering game they also really had to decide what the rest of the series would look like, bc whatever they include now is seeding the stuff that's going to happen later.
cam is not in this book. it was implied there's less wheel spins. rowan/ash/sterling get much less screen time
almost half of this book is lunar interlude stuff (pre and post suffering game, INCLUDING REUNION TOUR!!! no word on where it ends but they made it clear that a LOT of thought went into what to include and where to end it, and what that would mean for the next book)
ok so about those preview pages
first one was post-taakitz date with kravitz sensing a lich and the umbra staff shooting at him <3 <3 <3
i thought they were going to show us the preview pages that were on macmillan so when i saw kravitz i was so shook
second spread was magnus visiting the voidfish, which now happens right before they leave for wonderland; the whole beginning of tsg from magnus trying to talk to pringles to him kidnapping those guards to the chimera fight was cut LOL bc it never really got… addressed again in the podcast
angus comes to get him for the mission but magnus has been going Through It (outright stated, they were like. he found out he's a red robe. he would probably not be handling it well. he has eyebags now. LOL) and snaps at angus when angus presses him on what's wrong.
more angus content, he will be investigating what's going on at the bureau more (his scene w magnus ties into this)
same for lucretia! more content/ stuff for her to do

travis is the fans' champion when the others get too edit-happy. he's the one who has a good idea of what moments are important to the readers so he's like hey… too far. don't cut that. and then they don't
justin leaves great notes and when they couldn't figure stuff out ben would often say "no it's fine justin will solve this." and he ALWAYS DID

DM Tip: The Debt Always Comes Due
Isn't it weird how little we engage with gold as a real gameplay system? Sure, at low level wealth makes a great questhook, the party is usually hurting for a payout so that they can afford necessary gear upgrades/ubiquitous healing potion restocks/their next trip to the magic item shop. After a while though the promise of raw wealth loses its lustre, and the party is less likely to go out of their way to accept bounties, go off chasing treasuremaps, or accept gigs from shady patrons.
Generally I'd advise that this is a sign that your party are done being run of the mill sellswords, and it's time to hit them with a big epic questline that's focused more on emotional and narrative stakes than base currency. That said, sometimes you want to run a longer adventure arc that's centred around the acquisition of wealth, but to do that, you're going to need to go against the grain on one of the foundational assumptions that underpins D&D both mechanically and narratively.
TLDR: If you want your party to be motivated by gold past their first big pay off you should consider using a "wealth hurdle", which in short is a narrative and gameplay challenge that forces them to collect not only more gold than they already have but also more gold than they could get doing what they've been doing so far. This can be anything from a crimelord calling in a debt on them or one of their allies, a powerful monster swooping in and demanding tribute, comissioning some grand construction, or funding the defence of a region. Having the hurdle active should cause problems for the party, and not clearing the hurdle before a perdetermiend deadline will immensely bad things to happen. This will force the party to take risks they otherwise wouldn't, giving a high degree of focus to their subsequent adventures that they wouldn't have if they were content.
What we're trying to fix:
At it's core, D&D is a power fantasy, and a good chunk of its gameplay mechanics regardless of edition are about acquiring new strengths, options, and assets. These assumptions are likewise built into the genre and narrative structure of most campaigns: Heroes undertake quests usually for the promise of some reward, gain experiance/hit milestones along the way, and eventually stumble across some kind of loot drop at the end. There's nothing strictly wrong with this, but it does mean that all the resource problems the heroes face in the early game (and the inbuilt motivations that come along with them) are all but resolved by the time they hit the next gameplay tier.
This is complicated by the fact that outside of 3rd party options there's not much to spend money on. The DMG (which you should totally ignore) say you shouldn't let them buy magic items, and the common wisdom would say "let them buy a keep", but that solution only appeals a niche selection of adventuring parties.
Using Weath Hurdles turns acquiring gold not just into a quest goal but a gameplay challenge, forcing your party to scour the land for potential sources of wealth (and risk upsetting whoever or whatever happens to be currently holding it) and take on challenges they'd never normally attempt if there was only survival/personal enrichment at stake.
Food for Thought:
Tradional d&d structure has the party getting a huge payout at the end of their adventure in the form of a bosshoard or questgiver reward which is a very backloaded "you can have your dessert after you finish your greens" sort of attitude. Consider switching it up sometimes: have the party's patron or employer give them a small stipend to spend on kitting themselves out, have an early game treasure haul so the party can have a mid-arc shopping episode. This is especially useful in higher level games where your party may go weeks to months without a level up as it preserves the feeling of progression and gives them new toys to play with in between the big character defining abilities.
Recently I've been learning my way around blades in the dark (can't reccomend it enough btw), and just like any other time I've wanted to learn a new ttrpg system I'm having to do a bit of neural rewiring when it comes to figuring out how to write and run sessions of the game. Coin in BitD is both an XP (used for upgrading the party's shared crew sheet) a resource (burned to upgrade the results of various rolls) and a stat ( rolled to see if the players can lay their hands on various hard to come by items). It didn't really click for me until my first group messed up really badly on what was supposed to be their introductory adventure and pissed off the local crimeboss. I was just going to have him bully them, lock them up and then have a jailbreak the next session ( it's what I'd do in d&d), but on the fly I had the idea that he'd let them go with a massive debt they needed to pay off, which forced them to either pay him a percentage of their takings on all future jobs, or do small jobs in utmost secrecy so that they could build up their own strength under his nose.
Interestingly enough, the d&d game where I thought player wealth as a resource was most interestingly used was Dimension 20’s starstruck Odessy, which was a conversion of the amazing fanmade  starwars5e system. Starstruck is a parody of hypercapitalism and aptly uses money as both a narrative and gameplay feature. One character is stuck paying weekly insurance premiums on a debt he would never be able to pay down forcing him to act recklessly to acquire wealth in the immediate future. Another character was a economic and political power player and some of the best moments in the series come from her high stakes wheeling and dealing and bouncing money between accounts while the rest of the group engages in epic space battles; the rest of the crew might’ve barely got their ship out of the dogfight, but she’s the one who ensures they can pay for the repairs once they get to the space dock.   None of this would be possible without completely ignoring the normal constraints of wealth per level: gaining and losing huge sums based on moment by moment player decisions, The need for them to play along with the absurist gig economy to boost their rating and get better paying jobs, making a devil’s bargain with a corporate sponsor all so that they could risk their lives in a deadly arena fight all for the (very unlikely) chance of winning the equivalent of a million GP.  Not every campaign should, or even could so focus on money in this way, but it was FASCINATING to watch it in action.

MHA chapter 430
Finally the last chapter has arrived and ... Well it's underwhelming at best.
I already knew I wasn't going to like this chapter considering how things went in previous arcs but I just feel underwhelmed and indifferent.
So Izuku loses his quirk and then becomes a quirkless hero. I don't know this seems so.... Underwhelming no that's not the word so bleak, gloomy and sad?!?! I also hate the concept of iron Izuku with a passion!!!

All might and izuku parallels/foils will be forever going and I love that izuku used his analysis skills for the kid and I suppose hori tried to go with everyone can be a hero one way or another because the title of a hero isn't just based on the job heroics but how someone helps and saves people but I think that failed in execution.

Wait didn't shigaraki say he wanted to destroy everything??!? Shigaraki's goal never actually developed into a proper one where he wanted to destroy society and the aspects that hurt him. Well it kinda of did since he wanted to kill all might/destroy the pillar of society but that wouldn't cure the corruption and all that hurt others and shigaraki so why is Hori using it as a way to make it like shigaraki destroyed and izuku rebuilt?!?!

not to engage in Discourse™️, but i would like to once again remind people that your local dnd actual play show is not a scripted television show that can or should follow the normal rules of narrative flow. this is a collaborative storytelling effort that requires the careful scheduling and coordination of a lot of people. the crown keepers deviation was scheduled before fcg's death. matt couldn't just fuck with all those guests' schedules bc something inconvenient happened just before they were slated to come on. i cannot say for certain, but i'm willing to bet real american dollars that the live show was scheduled and the venue was booked before fcg died too (tho maybe not, i'm not an expert in venue scheduling), but what better place to have the new sam character drop than in a theatre full of your most adoring fans? the most logical time and place to do it? maybe not, idk. but it sure was exciting for everyone watching. not sure when this downfall three-shot was initially scheduled, but there's no way in hell matt and brennan haven't been working on it together for MONTHS, if not even a year. sometimes, things happen when they happen bc that's when you get people in a room together. that's kinda the whole thing about dnd, why so many campaigns fizzle out—scheduling is fucking hard. it wasn't convenient when tal had to miss the session after the huge briarwood dinner fiasco in c1, which was leading directly into the arc that dealt pretty exclusively with his backstory, but that is life! ppl are busy! things happen when they can happen! if you don't like that events and story beats aren't hitting precisely when it would be most narratively satisfying for them to do so, perhaps dnd/ttrpg actual plays aren't for you! sometimes the dice tell the story, and sometimes the google calendar does! that's life!

it's hilarious that people say rory never received criticism until mitchum it's like okay idk why y'all think criticism in school doesn't count but that very much did happen for her multiple times before that point and it's like. of course she hadn't received criticism wrt her career at that point because why would she have?? (though i guess it depends if you consider writing for the yale daily news to be school or career-related because she received criticism of her work there too and she got better lol that's like a whole arc where she writes a boring story and then follows her gut to the life and death brigade and doyle approves but people love to ignore canon when talking about rory)
but it's just like okay you can argue she hadn't been criticized as a journalist, sure, but 1. mitchum wasn't criticizing, he was outright saying she can't do it and 2. what else was she supposed to be doing as an intern i mean HONESTLY she wasn't being assigned stories or anything, she was doing what she was supposed to while seeing how a newspaper works. that's what internships are for, they're supposed to teach you, and he certainly never gave her any advice or mentorship which is what HE was supposed to do
it's just so annoying when people say she proved him right by giving up like. she had always had this dream and never had reason to believe it couldn't happen. it's what she always planned for, no one told her it wasn't realistic, not because they "coddled" her, but because anyone who knew rory, knew how driven she was, and that if she wants something, she will put in the work to get there. there might be struggles, roadblocks, she might doubt herself, but she always gets back on track. which is the whole thing like. sorry how did she prove him right? because she was temporarily set back after he essentially crushed her lifelong dream AND REMEMBER SHE'S 20 YEARS OLD I MEAN CHRIST of course she's vulnerable to a guy who's been in this for decades telling her, someone who's barely an adult, that she doesn't have what it takes to achieve her dreams. but anyway like, how do you say that when she did in fact follow through with her dream?? people point at her dropping out of yale like "see!! he's right!! she can't do it!! she's not special!!" and it's like yeah okay she lost a semester, went back, fit two years into a year and a half, graduated on time and immediately got a job working on the campaign trail LIKE the whole point was realizing he was wrong about her and everything that followed in the next two seasons proves that

Any ttrpgs (including/especially yours!) that you recommend to get the oc wheels turnin’? Or especially fun as oc design tools/inspiration?
as an overall recommendation for this, from the perspective of design tools, solo journaling games are often excellent for this -- you can browse the entire solo tag for the physical games category on itch and find TONS!!
moving on to specific recs: not for characters specifically, but for general worldbuilding one of mine i can recommend is lamplighter's festival! it's about building up the history and culture of a location by developing a ritual or holiday that's celebrated there, and i think sometimes creating a location with a lot of intention and thought will of course naturally get you thinking abt the ppl who live there. (i think this is also a great gm tool if you want to bring your party somewhere special!)
divined journey is a game about outlining a character's story in detail using tarot cards -- i've had a lot of fun using this to flesh out existing characters and imagine plot arcs that are different than the ones i'd come up with on my own, but i think it could absolutely start u running on a brand new character too. often the order ppl go in is make the character, THEN put them in a story, but forming a character BY putting them through the story (i.e. keeping them more malleable and considering events the primary development vs "backstory") can be extremely cool
on the more... i don't wanna say "traditional" but like, "narrative tabletop games as we know them" (vs solo journaling stuff/things that lean towards being design tools):
time to drop is a game about pulling one last heist (again and again and again, in a timeloop). i often find that games with a really specific premise/setting kickstart tons of fresh thought; as much as i love just doing the exact tropes i already like ad nauseum (being completely genuine there), restrictions and a narrowed focus are GREAT for getting the brain churning. and trapping a bunch of criminals in a time loop is a great way to develop necessarily juicy oc dynamics :3c
sapphicworld is a game that has gotten me SUPER revved about ocs (up to the point where i once planned out a 12 course formal dinner menu for a campaign finale.....). it's still in development, but you can get a pwyw glimpse at the ashcan here (kind of like a tasting platter of the style and mechanics of the game, which the dev describes as a dream about sapphicworld), and get access to the entire wip game on the darling demon patreon for five bucks. it's worth a billion times that. i love sapphicworld lol
in general i think games that have playbooks and picklists always get me going, for that same "narrowed focus" reason... at first ur urge might be to push outside the picklists, bc u have a different idea or none of the stuff on the list exactly matches what u had in mind for the character, but forcing urself to adhere and then branching out from that is something that i think creates a lot of really fun combinations. for this reason i think that a lot of PBTA stuff fits the bill -- i realize that doesn't narrow things down at all lol but it DOES mean u can browse the pbta tag and then just snag anything that seems to have a setting/tone that you're in the mood for!
i feel like this is a woefully small selection but it's all i have time for today, and ttrpgs are just so broad....! i would love if ppl gave more suggestions in the reblogs + replies!!!

Have you heard? Disney is making another Lion king, but this time, it's a prequel, and it's going to be about Mufasa's backstory. Which i think it's very interesting. i'm open to seeing how they're going to show/represent the movie. Even though it's coming out of nowhere? A prequel after all these years?
I've also seen a lot of criticism about the movie, even though it's not even out yet. A lot of fans are disappointed that Mufasa and Scar/Taka (interesting how they're using "Taka" instead of "Scar") are no longer blood related brothers, but instead, both are orphans which doesn't make much sense since in the original Lion king Mufasa comes from a lineage of royalty and gives Simba a speech talking about “great kings” and “let me tell you what my father told me” I'm open to new ideas and stuff but i don't know how to feel about it. Maybe it’s the nostalgia? This honestly feels like a cheap cash grab, and seeing how Disney has had quality control issues lately, it's either going to be a flop or not.
I'm just HOPING that they're NOT going down the "misunderstood villain arc" because I've had enough of it. if they’re going for the "Mufasa was adopted and usurper who took Scar's rightful place at the throne! Showing that Scar was right all along."

Oh, I’ve heard of it! I’m not that interested in watching though. I’ll probably just wait for it to come out while praying that TWST gives us free stuff in a promotional campaign and listen to some commentary or review channels give their takes.
According to Wikipedia, Mufasa: The Lion King is supposed to be a sequel to the 2019 live action adaptation, not the original 1994 animated film. The prequel film was confirmed in September of 2020, which isn’t that long after The Lion King live action movie came out. They’ve been steadily releasing new information about Mufasa, such as voice cast reveals in 2021, 2022, and April 2024. It was officially announced and title dropped in 2022 during the D23 Expo. It’s possible that the film took longer to make due to the pandemic and worker’s strikes that occurred between 2020 and now.
On the Scar/Taka thing, I believe “Taka” (I’ve also seen “Askari” in some sources) is Scar’s given name and “Scar” is a nickname Mufasa gave him following an incident in which Taka was as tricked and attacked by other animals, which was the origin of his scar. This information comes from The Lion Guard (a series I haven’t watched myself; this is what I was told by a friend who has). If Scar is being called “Taka” in Mufasa (and assuming The Lion Guard is canon), then that means Mufasa must take place prior to the brothers’ relationship souring and him getting his signature scar.
I watched the trailer and… the phrasing is quite odd??? Now Mufasa is “a lion born without a drop of nobility in his blood”. That implies he and Scar aren’t blood-related. In real life, that makes sense since it’s usually the strongest lion that leads the pack rather than the eldest. Scar has a line where he says Mufasa got the brawn whereas he got the brains, so it sort of supports this idea. However, making it so that Mufasa and Scar are unrelated orphans within the Lion King universe doesn’t make sense if you hold that up next to the already established lore. They imply multiple times that Scar lost his claim to the throne when Simba, Mufasa’s blood-related son, was born to succeed him. So royal blood of the king is important??? The only way Scar could take over was to eliminate those in Mufasa’s lineage. It’s possible that Mufasa’s speech to Simba about the “great kings” and his own father could be in reverence or to show love for his adopted dad or pack…? But that makes those scenes a lot less impactful. Additionally, part of the reason why Scar’s actions are so evil is because he committed fratricide. He turned against his own blood brother, then manipulated his nephew, whom he also shares blood with, into taking the blame. There’s something very visceral and cold-blooded about that—plus it adds to the Hamlet parallels.
Seeing as Mufasa is the titular character, I don’t think they’ll go down the route of intentionally making him the bad guy to Scar. Disney’s so shy about making its main characters morally grey or just bad people… though like you said, they might do it unintentionally because by writing Mufasa as an orphan, that means he’s an illegitimate ruler… meaning Simba is an illegitimate heir… meaning Scar killed/deceived those with no claim to the throne, so actually Scar was not in the wrong at all 💀 But technically it wouldn’t be Scar’s right to rule anyway because he’s not of royal blood either (since you said he's apparently also an orphan? I did not see this mentioned in the trailer though)??? Unless Scar is the one from a royal lineage and everyone else is just dead???
I think it’s still possible that we get something tragic between the two; blood does not determine everything. Mufasa and Taka could form a genuine brotherly bond that later falls apart. It doesn’t really make up for the retconning of current lore, but who knows 😂 maybe they’ll pull some of their old magic out and actually write a story that makes sense to lead into The Lion King. I’m not going to hold my breath though, the live action movies have never been that good to me 💦 I’m going to let the movie come out and speak for itself before I make any real judgments on its quality, as I don’t believe in jumping the gun (even given previous track records).
I wonder what this new movie’s lore would mean for TWST… Since Tamashina Mina was very inspired by The Lion Guard, that means (depending on how the film goes) Mufasa’s events could be retroactively integrated into TWST history?? It’s not a guarantee, but just something to consider.

Gojō Satoru and Ryōmen Sukuna: symbols of celebrity?

What does it say about Jujutsu Kaisen's influence and popularity that it could convince the two leading national newspapers in Japan — rivals and competitors — to run a joint marketing campaign where readers must buy both papers to complete the set?
The attention to detail is incredible, too! Asahi — Sukuna's paper — is one of the oldest in Japan. Meanwhile Yomiuri — Gojō's paper — has the largest newspaper circulation in the world. Such a brilliant way to illustrate "the strongest sorcerer in history vs the strongest sorcerer of today" in promotion of the new volume. Extra points for the fact that the two newspapers have opposing political leanings, too.
I'm really fascinated by this — so, some thoughts on celebrity and the fourth wall in Jujutsu Kaisen below the cut!
One of the things I love most about this series is how self-aware it is at times. I feel like Gege Akutami is quite purposeful is how he uses his characters to speak directly to the audience, especially in recent chapters. Along with the 'tickets' for Mei Mei's livestream and the promotional video that's reminiscent of a wrestling announcer bigging up the event, the entire campaign for the release of volume 25 feels like it's breaking the fourth wall in a way that's perfect for Jujutsu Kaisen.

It also makes me even more hopeful that 'The Battle of the Strongest' is going to be a film, if only for the meta effect of the audience 'purchasing tickets for the livestream'. Imagine if they market it so you feel like you're actually paying to watch this fight between two gods unfolding in real-time on the other side of the world? Considering how successful the first one was, I have no doubt the film would perform incredibly in the box office too, further adding to the meta effect.
The potential for hype is enormous and I actually feel like they won't disappoint, simply because Gojō is too much of a money-maker — look at the DVD sales drop off from the Hidden Inventory arc. I know I bang on about the chapter all the time, but this is spawning all kinds of additional thoughts to my analysis of Gojō in 236, especially regarding how he's written as this almost unknowable character.
I feel like Akutami's interest in the dark side of the entertainment industry actually shines through in Gojō the most out of all his characters, because he's practically a celebrity both in-universe and out — people made an actual shrine for this character when he died, as though he's the People's Princess or something!
Everyone knows who he is, but no one knows who he *really* is. He's beautiful and isolated and powerful and lonely, and it makes absolute sense that he sought understanding from Sukuna, because he's kind of like the blueprint for Gojō — a legend about whom everyone has a story, but no one really knows anything at all.
I promise I didn't make this post just to plug my fic, but it's a neat little coincidence that the precarious power dynamic between celebrities and the general public is a big theme in the most recent chapter of my idol fic, Over the Threshold. The reason I started writing a music AU in the first place is because this topic is something I have a personal and academic interest in, and the parallels between the 'strongest' and a music industry legend are simply too good to ignore.
Perhaps it's because it's on my mind as I'm writing the fic, but the marketing for the new volume got me thinking about the symbiotic relationship between artists and their fans, and I'm wondering if Gege is going to bring this into play somehow. Could it have something to do with the source of Sukuna's strength and therefore the key to beating him? Conversely, could it have something to do with the loss of Gojō's strength if he returns without it, making his death a symbolic death of celebrity instead?
I love the idea of the death of the 'strongest sorcerer' (the celebrity) bringing down the veil that separates him from the people around him (the public), allowing them to see Gojō Satoru for the very first time. No longer 'the strongest' or the Six Eyes or the one-man Gojō clan — not a symbol or a power ceiling or a weapon or anything like that — but simply a person, which is all he really is at the end of the day.
Am I coping by twisting myself into knots hoping that Jujutsu Kaisen is about the deconstruction of celebrity? Maybe, but at least I'm coping in a very smart and sexy way!
Just kidding, I'm still undecided about whether I think a Gojō comeback is likely. However, I completely disagree with people who say his character arc is finished or there's no space in the narrative for his return. I also disagree with those who say there's no evidence for it, because I think if it happened it would seem incredibly obvious in hindsight. It's a bit like Sukuna taking over Megumi — very few people saw it coming at the time, but when you look back, the clues were sprinkled all over the place.
Time will tell, but this story is really special to me whatever happens in the end. We all love to shit on Gege Akutami — and sure, he's not a perfect writer and I don't like a lot of his decisions — but when he gets it right, it's genius level stuff. Considering how overworked and commodified and exploited mangakas are, I think he deserves a lot more credit for the stories and characters he's weaving, and his art has never looked better if you ask me.
Anyway, I rambled a bit at the end, but here's my idol fic if you want to deconstruct Gojō as a celebrity some more. It's *so much* fun, I promise!! Did I make this post just to plug my fic after all? You can decide.

i have wanted to say this since the first episodes of the new season dropped and i feel like i still can't say it on main. but it's the truth.
all season when people thought the canyon's takes on izzy were being validated, i knew they weren't. i could tell the writers understood how abusive izzy was toward ed in s1 and that they were super conscious of it the whole season and that they were leading up to him actually apologizing for it as the only way his redemption arc could be fully complete. i couldn't say this even though everyone was freaking out about it because i knew if i explained it the discourse would be terrible. but here's how i knew:
because ed doesn't directly physically harm anyone on the crew except izzy. and despite what people want to think, there isn't the slightest hint that it's because izzy's doing anything to protect the crew. ed just only hurts izzy. ed just only WANTS to hurt izzy, he doesn't want to hurt anyone else at all. he is CALLOUS toward the crew, he ignores their needs and makes them work all the time even though the work is hard and dangerous and he's deliberately scary when he wants to get them to do something, but he does nothing to indicate any desire at all to actually hurt them, not even when they're disobeying orders. he doesn't actively make any move toward harming them until he decides he desperately wants to die and thinks it's the only way to make them kill him. (even then his methods are extremely indirect, because he really doesn't want to do it!)
so you have to ask why the writers wrote it that way, why they made ed only ever want to hurt izzy and the answer is pretty obvious: they expected the audience to be able to forgive ed for hurting izzy in a way that they wouldn't expect if ed had mutilated jim or frenchie or fang. BECAUSE THEY KNEW WHAT IZZY HAD ALREADY DONE TO ED WAS ABUSIVE AND ED WAS REACTING DIRECTLY TO HIS ABUSE, and the other characters hadn't done anything like that. because they knew that izzy is the one who went to ed last season when he was incredibly emotionally vulnerable and trying to be a better person, and kicked him while he was down and demanded he act like this instead. because they knew they spent all of s1 writing izzy as an intentionally completely unsympathetic villain and that most of the audience reacted to him that way, even if a minority faction of the fandom had managed to come up with an alternate interpretation. they knew izzy was the campaign director for the leopards eating people's faces party and they expected the audience to have only limited sympathy when they had him whimper about his own face getting eaten.
the writers wanted to ultimately redeem izzy and they thought that he was SO horrible in season one that they expected the only way the audience would ever be able to come around on him would be if he suffered for what he did in s1 to a degree that was disproportionate. and THEY THOUGHT ONE TOE WASN'T ENOUGH TO BE DISPROPORTIONATE TO WHAT HE'D DONE. they thought TWO toes wasn't disproportionate! they thought three was getting close but even then it wouldn't be enough to make it reasonable to expect the whole audience to fully forgive him unless he lost an entire leg. and they were so sure this was the ONLY way it would make sense for the audience to forgive izzy that they were willing to do it even though they clearly really didn't want to depict ed as being actively cruel like this toward any other character.
if they had wanted to characterize ed as just having become a cruel monster, they would have had him be equally cruel to everybody whether or not they deserved it. but they didn't. they had him be a dick to everybody, but only actively violent toward the character who was his own abuser, the character who could not possibly deserve the audience's forgiveness unless he suffered as a consequence of what he did to ed in s1. if the writers had thought izzy wasn't a super mega awful person at the start of this season, if they had thought ed's actions toward him weren't fundamentally reactive against izzy's own abuse of ed, they would have given him the same plot armor against the kraken that jim and fang and frenchie got. but they didn't.
that's how i knew the writers got it. it was the only way the writing choices for ed and izzy's arcs made sense from the very beginning.

Gonna follow up my last ask with another Splat3 related one. What's something you wish they added/wanted more of in ROM?

I find it kind of odd that Off the Hook has consistently gotten a ton of attention and focus in their respective story campaigns, with lots of lore drops, full backstories, references to previous stories, and yet the Squid Sisters barely get anything aside from sunken scrolls and a butchered arc for Callie that left people with so many misconceptions still said till this day.
The optional dialogue you can have with Callie and Marie is just there for jokes and while it is funny, it should have been prime time for references and callbacks. Now I'm not asking for Sonic Frontiers stuff where we get Callie saying "oh man, this reminds me of the time where i went to the OCTO CANYON! and i got HYPNOTISED! by those silly HYPNOSHADES!" and then Marie goes "Hey Agent 3, did you know that Splatoon 2 is an online multiplayer game released in 2017 and-" like i don't need to get bonked on the head with direct references to be satisfied lmao. Subtle ones that fans can pick up on is more than enough.
It's really odd that the Squid Sisters and Octavio only have a single dialogue interaction, despite what they have gone through together they only share a single line of dialogue and i find that to be so weird and a massive missed opportunity.

Clove D&D Headcanons (Valorant)
Ok, Riot put D&D into Valorant with some of Clove’s voicelines.  As a resident Valorant and D&D nerd (I’ve DMed and played more than 20 different campaigns) I wrote some headcanons.  Please like, reblog, and comment if you enjoy!

Clove 
As the Dungeon Master, they are in control of the entire story.  Mostly...
The campaign setting is 100% Runeterra because let’s be honest, if League of Legends is canon in Valorant, then yeah D&D would be in that world too
Often meeting famous characters along the way
Currently the story is taking place against the backdrop of Piltover and Zaun fighting each other, which the party finds themselves in
The group is trying to keep the escalation low by keeping Runes from ending up in the hands of either side.  They have to balance this with their own allegiance to certain characters though
Clove’s own joy comes from writing the most fan-fic inspired story and injecting as much drama into it as possible.  Like they actively find the most dramatic way to resolve an arc
They always listen to podcasts that have campaigns.  Their favorite so far is called ‘Role a Crit’ which introduced them to the hobby 
Clove can surprisingly imitate accents despite theirs being nearly impossible to understand sometimes.  They slip into voices well too, lowering theirs to a growl or into a high pitched squeak
Has a number of playlists for battle music, fantasy ambience, and creepy sound effects for whenever they need it
They do have a character they played before joining Valorant though: a Sorcerer named Titania 
Clove keeps the character sheet and some art they drew of her in a shoebox along with some of her other belonging from her old life
Titania appears as a guiding presence for the party whenever the group needs direction or quick save.  She’s one of the favorite NPCs in the party
They revel in the moments the party realizes that there’s a huge twist or when they have a climactic battle.  The grin on their face is diabolical and hides how excited they are
Clove’s dice are from older editions and worn a bit from much use.  They have a set of dice in the colors of Non-Binary Flag they were gifted by a friend that they use most
They also have a comically large twenty sided die for boss battles too
Gekko 
He has Dizzy sit in his lap while he sips whatever he brought to the table
He’s playing a Vastaya druid called Raldo, that leads around a massive Flutterbug named “Tio” that he adopted from a nest
Every single time the group comes across some kind of animal, he is the first to try and adopt it
“Guys, we totally need to bring these little guys with us.  Think of how awesome Basilisks would be to ride into battle!”
He has a small entourage of critters everywhere he goes, which he constantly drops spells on to let them swarm everybody 
He’s played a ton with friends before, and has a bunch of dice left over from that.  He taught Neon how to build her character
As a result, he’s the first person she asks about rules and their characters started the game as a duo and stick together
Has Wingman there for fun and lets him roll his dice
Wingman has his own character in the game, courtesy of Gekko being bored one night.  It’s a simple Minion, and the group love him to death
Wingman is able to roll dice, but sticks to taking everyone’s shiny dice
This has become an ongoing issue, because Wingman likes shiny and will steal right from the table if allowed
Wings does have a character in the game.  A simple Minion that comes along with the party and just does follows 
Gekko’s dice are clear green and yellow resin dice, and plenty of marbling with shimmering resin
One of the designs on his skateboard is a Twenty Sided Die surrounded by runes and ‘Buena Suerte’ written underneath
Neon 
She’s playing a Fae Fawn ranger that is new to the world and has no idea what is going on.  She’s never played so her having no idea what’s happening is built in to her character
She named her character ‘Holly,’ after the flower because she thought it was nature-themed.  
Almost named her ‘Wreath’ but decided against it.  She had a long list of flower and nature inspired names 
Has the most unhinged plans whenever playing.  Like breaking into a fort by setting fire to the inside and blowing the drawbridge up when the guards run across
“Look we can see they’re excavating some powerful Rune.  We should just run in and grab it for ourselves and then kill them all with it right?” 
Once hit a Natural 20 to shoot a fleeing NPC with important information.  After she killed him she asked: “So did we win?  I rolled high so I think we did.”
Luckily Clove improvised that the NPC had some mysterious letter to account for the sudden shift
In the grand scheme of the story, her character has been tasked with finding out where her sister has been taken too by raiders.
Neon has the books loaded up on her phone at all times and still doesn’t get all the rules.  Gekko usually helps as well as Clove
Listens to some of ‘Role a Crit’ when she’s killing time on the treadmill.  She gossips with Clove about the latest episodes and fan theories
Neon always sort of thought the game was a bit too complex to learn.  She has since dropped the judgment and really embraced it now that she’s played
Her dice are on loan from Gekko and Clove.  A mixture shimmering teal and bright yellow sets
Neon is really getting into the community around it and some of the lore.  She mostly likes being able to talk about the game and have something in common with the others
Also bombs the chat with memes about the campaign and inside jokes
Phoenix 
A human bard but one with ties to a bunch of dragons that gave him training for magic in exchange for him entertaining them
He named his character Monte Gildedgrasp.  It’s a character he’s played in previous campaigns before
His instrument is a lute crafted with scales.  He has sound effects queued on his phone for when he uses it in the game 
Flirts with anything that moves, and sadly rolls high enough to get somewhere.  Then rolls so abysmally when he tries to commit to the bit
“You haven’t seen hot if you haven’t seen me.” he says to barmaid and has amazing charisma to back it up.  2 hours later he was robbed and stabbed by her 
“...not feeling as hot now…anyone got bandages?...”
When his character sings, he also sings and does an amazing job of it.  He already could freestyle, but doing in old English is a flex
Adds insults and mockery before rolling to attack enemies.  In Shakespearean style though so he can use some old theater skills
This man was lowkey ready to dress up but didn’t cause nobody else really would.  It’s their loss, he has a good sense for costuming 
Lends a hand to the party a lot.  His magic and healing spells come in clutch whenever the party needs it too
Clove fashioned a web of intrigue for his and Jett’s characters.  Phoenix’s dragon allies are going missing and Jett’s character may know who is causing it
It’s caused both of their characters to be slightly suspicious of another.  What’s even more fun is that both characters are also crushing on each other in spite of it
Phoenix is more than capable of giving a heart wrenching performance if needed.  When a distraught mother came to him, he delivered the most beautiful and comforting speech
His dice are on loan from Killjoy’s massive dice stash.  He picked them out himself, and promised not to singe them
A speckled rust and orange dice that have cracks of bright gold and numbers written in old Gothic font.  The numbers also glow in the dark too
Phoenix lives for the stage, so having a small outlet to act and sing a bit feels incredible for him
Jett 
Playing a human assassin that has been working her way towards a target that wronged her a long time ago
Her ex-employer is sort of the main villain.  A chem-baron that is killing magical creatures to make new weapons from their corpses
Jett’s character, Dysha, used to kill for that same chem-baron before leaving after realizing she felt guilt for the innocent lives she took
Clove loves dark backstories, so Jett is getting the full character angst and recovery treatment from NPCs and the Party
She will bluff and lie, and somehow manage to get her way because the roll is high enough.  It’s always for ridiculous lies though
“Yes I’m supposed to be in baron’s room after dark!  I’m his…uh mistress?  Why do I have a knife and have him tied up?  Uh… roleplay?...”
That incident is not to be brought up by the party unless they also want to die
She uses her character as an excuse to do things with friends in sort of a lowkey way.  Being able to cook some food and eat it together is main reason for coming
The fun story and in-jokes are a bonus
She is the second flirtiest after Phoenix’s character, and the two constantly have their characters flirt and have romantic moments
Phoenix’s character soon discovered she helped kill one of his draconic mentors in a twist orchestrated by Clove.  It was such a huge shock to the whole group
Jett and Phoenix flexed their acting skill by having the characters make up and agree to no more secrets between them.  Then they kissed (but insisted it was only performance)
Nobody believes them.  
Her dice are metal and come in a tin decorated with so many stickers.  She bought them at a comic shop in LA the younger agents visited once
Jett lives for dramatic stories about betrayal, love and misunderstanding so she’s dying to see where the campaign leads
Killjoy
She was the first person to tell Clove to try getting a group together at the protocol knowing full well it would work
She’s obviously played for a long time, and been entrenched in geek culture as a result
Yordle named Suza with a whole lot of Hextech gadgets.  She is smol and the group protects her like a little sister
Potentially deranged though, she invents insanely big guns and uses them for just about everything
Killjoy cackles in her character’s airy voice as she releases a bunch of dice into a box and counts the damage numbers 
Is the most versed with rules because she’s played the game forever, and leverages it constantly 
Places artillery and gives advice to the party for combating certain creatures they encounter.  Essentially she plays both for the characters and because she likes wargames
“I understand that we might not have access to modern technology, but we could easily use magic to fabricate the parts of a Nanoswarm and use magic to then animate it!”
Has done makeup based on her character and shown up in clothing matching the aesthetic of Suza.  She’s dedicated to fully embracing it
Has one really big artillery cannon she wheels around called the Krieg that the party can use once in a while.  She rolls a ton of dice for the damage it puts out 
She instantly calculates rolls as well, and has a bit of a habit of metagaming because of that because she’ll run odds 
Doesn’t let that get in the way of her story though
Her character had a bunch of her own blueprints stolen by some Zaunites and she aims to take them back before they build machines of war from them
Met Raze’s character by getting saved by her in the first session.  The two are inseparable in game and in real life
Total dice goblin, like has an entire bag filled with them buried in one of her drawers
Uses a mixture of dice from rare events and collections, 
Her favorite are some that Raze made from pouring resin into a mold and hydro dipping in yellow and orange
Killjoy is glad Clove has the campaign because meeting a fellow nerd is always great 
Raze 
She plays a buff Chirean named Pearl that was part of the Firelight gang before leaving on her own quest
Has a hoverboard because of this and wields a length of pipe covered in razor wire.  Has a scavenger vibe to her 
Shamelessly flirts with Killjoy’s character at the table, and the party is FOR IT
“Hey Suza, I could really use some repairs to my board.  Mind coming over to the garage and giving it a look?” said while leaning in to a blushing Killjoy
Surprisingly gets really into character, playing a stoic badass that has a chaotic streak  She lowers her voice and shifts her body language to match the vibe
Also her character has a tendency to put people into headlocks and bearhug them.  This is acted out in real life
Pearl is surprisingly the heart of the group and has a tendency to sit with the characters and talk things out with them 
She ended up helping with Dysha and Monte’s own falling out by supporting them both and holding them together after they made up
Never misses a chance in game to ram her hoverboard into someone and punch them in the jaw.  She has a collection of gold teeth she’s knocked from other people
Her character introduced herself by nearly breaking Gekko’s wrist in an armwrestling competition
Draws all of the characters at one point in her free time.  The art caused so much hype when she unveiled it at the session
Her character is a bruiser, but a bruiser with a heart and a wish to see the world she knows become better
Raze’s own dice are partially on loan from Killjoy’s massive collection which happen to be her favorites
They are an assortment of dice that make a rainbow, each one being a different color and transparency
Killjoy taught her to play over the course of a few sessions with the group and the two sit together at the table because Raze would always want some help
It’s stayed that way for obvious reasons
Yoru
Was begged to join, and eventually relented for a few weeks before leaving and agreeing only to come back at the end of the campaign
He’s playing as a Voidborn swordsman, specifically inspired by old Samurai movies.  Yoru didn’t care about making a character but just took a pregenerated one off of Clove
Turns out, Clove knew how make a character Yoru didn’t hate playing.  Especially cause she gave him a cool backstory 
His character, Tets’ Uya, is the banished leader of an army of Voidborn.  After regaining some more power, he will get revenge for his banishment
Raze and Him frequently go on rampages in combat because that’s his favorite thing to do.  He usually finishes off enemies, so he gets to describe how he kills them
“I take the pirate captain by the throat and hold him over the ocean.  Tets’ Uya whispers, ‘you’ll do better as a corpse than as a captain,’ then he drops him in.”
Sick moments like that, especially because Yoru leans into the intimidation his character has and has the group back him up
Even though he sometimes gets bored out of his mind waiting for a turn, he pays enough attention while checking something else
After a while his character left the group because Yoru was done.  He returned his dice back to Clove and started a project in the garage 
A couple weeks later during a climactic battle between some Celestials and Zaunites, Yoru showed up with his character to back the group up for the final showdown
Clove went to hand him his dice, but he instead pulled out a tin of dice he bought himself
It was a cobalt steel set with machined Hiragana numbers instead of the standard numerals
His character and the group ended up killing a Celestial and wiping a squad of Chemtanks with some lucky rolls before declaring victory
Yoru doesn’t join often, but when he comes in as a guest, he’s more than welcome

Cypher tries to play as a mage and would always roll really high on important stuff.  He has loaded dice he swapped in every couple of turns
Fade joined in as a Catfolk and scared Clove back to death when she got really into character during an interrogation.  
Viper doesn’t admit it to anyone, but she played D&D as a kid but found it hard to keep groups together
Omen tried to learn it but with his own stuff going on treated it more as a random occasion.  He joins in as a guest character that does healing stuff
XXXXX unironically loves playing as a knight that is sworn to kill giant monsters and dragons for the safety of the realm.  XX also yells at the dice if they roll low

where are you at in worlds beyond number?
After today’s commute, I am at the very beginning of Episode 11 and things are *T E N S E*
Love the show, though. I’m currently bouncing back and forth between this and Murder She Rolled, and they’re both very different actual-plays in terms of setting and style and vibe, but in both instances the players and DMs bring the whole thing alive in a very fun and engaging way where it’s both sitting at the table while these people all have a ton of fun playing DND, and also a very immersive story that you get attached to very quickly.
Sorry I’ve been flipped into Gush About Stuff I’m Listening To Mode, I’m gonna ramble and gush about these podcasts for a bit now.
Alan Seawright in MSR is great at bouncing off of everyone at the table and flipping the switch between being the action hero in a serious way and an action hero in a comedic way, and basically everyone else at the table has picked up on that seemingly from the beginning, and it’s great. If you like…dark comedy and eldritch horror, it’s very fun.
Now.
Worlds Beyond Number is four heavyweight DND champions (both in actual-play settings and in terms of DND advice and design and generally being people present in the culture).
First off. @quiddie is a genius. Because she did something I now desperately want to try in the future, which is create inter-party tension by creating Suvi as a character that is intensely devoted to both her friends/adoptive family, but also to this place that she has now been raised and shaped by for the majority of her formative years that is set in opposition to what sort of ways Ame and Eursulon come from.
Second off, Erika Ishii as Ame is amazing, and a very fun way of playing…what I think is a Druid with some tweaks? It’s such a fun way of approaching what feels like the same class set but from a direction I absolutely would never have thought of and it’s amazing, I wanna try it now in a future game if I get the chance. Also Erika’s great, they’re amazing at interacting with everyone and keeping the lighthearted stuff lighthearted but also being able to drop into drama when needed (as has happened in the last few episodes quick specifically).
Lou Wilson as Eursulon is the sleeper hit of the show. For sure. And I am astounded by how well Lou managed to make it happen naturally. Because early on the episodes focus more on Suvi and Ame finding each other and going to find him with a quest focused on Ame and a lot of tension from Suvi’s background coming into play and being utilized to get things rolling, and then…Port Talon happens. And you realize he’s not been playing this dude that’s seemingly hit rock bottom and is ashamed of being taken advantage of as the new guy in town one too many times despite trying to live up to this *impossible* ideal, and he pulls out all these great character moments that build right to where I’m at where he’s been shamed by this great spirit for what he wanted to be and leaving his old world behind, and having finally clawed back what he could to reach what they set out to do he has to make a *choice* now, and he’s clearly struggling with what that choice is in the face of his friends’ lives being in danger and his old ideals coming back to give him pause about what he’s been doing and just…*gods* he’s possibly going to be my favorite at this rate? He’s playing a very similar character arc to what I wanted Jace to have when I played him in the campaign I played in with @charlezarrd, only…*way* more, and it’s amazing.
Also BLeeM’gan is an insanely good GM, this probably doesn’t need saying given his reputation, but it bears mentioning anyways. He’s crafted an insanely deep world that’s immersive and feels alive in a way that is…not easily describable.
And also him as the Fox is the best. The Fox is my other favorite character. He’s so good.
(Also Will Gallows might be my new favorite criminal mastermind, TBQH)
Anyways yeah Worlds Beyond Number is great! The only reason I’m not fully caught up up yet is because Murder She Rolled is also great!
(TBQH I would love to see Alan Seawright and the e rest do the MSR crew get thrown at the WBN crew, because I think it would be total chaos in the best way)

Playing the Nathema conspiracy again.
Words can't describe how much I hate this arc. Sorry for the rant.
1. Reset button. The whole arc is a reset button designed to wipe zakuul and all KOTFEET plot points right off the board. To pretend, poorly, that it never happened. If you really wanted that done, just have us blow up the fleet while sacrificing the Gravestone. Only thing left is Zakuul's offscreen destruction.
2. Leaves us looking really foolish and incompetent. In just a matter of months, the Order of Zildrog manages to do what we couldn't in the main campaign. Songs are sung across the galaxy of how we, the player characters, had ultimate power in our grasp only for it to be snatched away by a relatively small cult.
3. A Gemini droid. A fucking Scorpio Clone. The ghost of that smug robot had to rear its head one last time. Not like i was itching for more self-important droid (AI is getting on my nerves irl as well). And she won. Got what she wanted
4. Vinn Atrius. A final reminder that Zakuul worships Valkorion. And sees us as having thrown the first punch. Heck, Zakuul even tells us we can fuck off now, since we no longer have a fleet. If the rival faction turns up to destroy them, I'd love to be the one to tell Vinn the tragic news. Remind him that destroying the alliance ironically led to Zakuul's final destruction. Like Gemini, he too accomplished his objective.
5. The nathema mission itself. Yet another moment when Force users forget they can use it. Literally drop the ceiling on zildrog! That would ending the stupid plot. And the idea of the secret allies... we don't know half of them, and the rest were irrelevant. Like Mortis. Why is he back? Now, of all times? And what's his beef with Lana?
6. The plot was way too dumb, and required our characters to be proportionately dumber. Even the villains suffer from this when needed. Theron alone could've foiled it in several different ways, since the 5D chess players trusted him so easily.
7. I just hate the Theron "betrayal" and the possible execution.
