Reason why I love the The Sunbearer Duology by Aiden Thomas:
SPOILERS FOR CELESTIAL MONSTERS (nothing too major as I'm not that far in)
1. Canonically LGBTQIA+ characters who's identity is not plot relevant also canonically deaf character:
Teo - trans male main character who has experienced dysphoria in the form of his wings, his wings were originally a brown colour which was the colour of the female birds (i forgot what specific kind of bird) which led to him getting a binder made to bind his wings so he wouldn't have to see them tho in the book they do change to the male colour (colour u see on the covers of the books)
Xio - trans/non binary (Ive seen images of an updated character card with the nonbinary and he/they pronouns so I think an identity change of sorts happens in Celestial Monsters)
Ocelo - they/them enby
Xochi - trans female
Tierra - LGBTQIA+ in someway bc his daughter Niya has two dads and is the biological child of both from what I remember (Tierra is the god of earth btw)
Marino - canonically loves Dezi (idk if I just missed any hints but I may have misinterpreted their relationship in Sunbearer Trials as I thought they were close friends and was surprised to find this out when Reading Celestial Monsters)
Dezi - canonically deaf and uses sign language (I p sure there's been mentions of someone interpreting from him)
2. It's mexican inspired which I think is cool like I've heard of foods I didn't know about before because of Sunbearer Trials (tempted to go through and search up the different foods mentioned) I've also learned the Spanish words for god (dios), goddess (diosa), and demigod (semidios and semidiosa) also I read this book after reading PJO & HoO (yes demigods and a trans mc are big reason why I got the book) so getting to hear about non greek & roman gods was nice
3. I like how each of the gods cities have differences that make them feel unique like Niya's home has mountains and stuff (srry don't remember much abt it or even it's name) while Teo's home Quetzlan is in a forest and has birds everywhere (not surprising considering his mom Quetzal is goddess of birds) Also the cities belonging to the Golds (group of some of the gods in this book) are more developed and closer to the middle where sol city is meanwhile the Jades have their cities closer to the edge and the places belonging to the Obsidians are all group together far from sol city and away from the other cities
Tumblr media
4. VINE REFERENCE AND MENTION OF FANFIC!!!
Niya makes a two bros chilling in a hot tub reference in Sunbearer Trials and in Celestial Monsters Auristela says the word fanfic

Two major updates today: We dropped not only the cover for my new book, but also my new name! ✨
Tumblr media
I’ve not been keeping it much of a secret over on the audio drama side of things, but just in case you missed it: Hi, I’m Leon Egan, the ghost-whisperer and rom-com enjoyer formerly known as Leanne!
I’ve been going by Leon in audio drama circles for a while now, so announcing it on the bookish side of things means I’m no longer having to switch between the two, and makes both sides of my work feel a little less at odds. So it feels especially fitting that Listen Closely is the first book to be published under the new name, for a couple of reasons:
First, this is a story about Jude and Aiden, two trans kids who for their own reasons feel like they have to be someone they aren’t to get by in the world. It’s a story that celebrates trans and non-binary experiences, and one that’s incredibly close to my own heart as a trans person.
Second, because combining my love for books and audio drama is at the CORE of Listen Closely. This book is a love-letter to audio drama, and Jude and Aiden both have in-universe shows of their own that help them open up in ways that would otherwise feel too terrifying to try. I’m still astounded that my publishers have let me write what is essentially 80k words about my special interest — but nobody’s stopped me yet, and it’s going to hit the shelves in three months!
I’m incredibly grateful to everyone behind the scenes at Harper Fire and PFD who have been so supportive, kind and thoughtful throughout this whole process. And I sincerely cannot wait for Listen Closely to come out (hah) in July. If you’re planning to read it, I hope this story can bring you as much joy and comfort as it brought me 💙💖🤍💖💙
Pre-order links here (ignoring the fact that the link tree still has my old name - I gave out a bunch of QR codes at Megacon so uhhh changing the URL so soon feels like a mistake)
[video ID: An animation revealing a book cover in parts, starting with a neon line-drawing of an old fashioned microphone, then the title Listen Closely, and a pair of headphones. The tagline reads “They’ve fallen in love, but do they really know each other?” Finally, the author name Leon Egan is revealed and the words “coming 3rd July” /.End ID]

This is why the battle over pronouns has been so pitched. For right wingers, gender is a means of structuring society, of enforcing order, of reverting back to a prior hierarchy. Of course, gender is a construct, and particularly for non-binary people, the demand that a person adhere to their sex is a form of control, a denial of the reality of their identity. For some years, liberals tried as a matter of courtesy to use pronouns that a person used for themselves. To enforce a rigid order, right wingers understood they needed to destroy this practice as a means to superpose the power of fixed categories over the complexity of gender.
Marcy Wheeler at Emptywheel. Seeing Language As A Tool Of Authoritarianism
I'm slow on the uptake sometimes and have to ruminate over new ideas. I've been chewing all day over this post.
A couple stories jumped out in my social feeds. A North Carolina high school valedictorian was prevented from speaking freely about the plight of trans people in his graduation speech. And a library branch manager, an employee at the library branch for fifteen years, was summarily fired for allowing the inclusion of a book, When Aiden Became A Brother in a patron-led book display themed "Color Our World."
I've been slow to understand gender politics. I had to learn a lot and I'm sure there is so much more I need to learn. The authoritarian use of language that Marcy wheeler points too provides a useful perspective to understand these stories in a way I hadn't before.
Like a really large number of Americans I basically live pay check to pay check. Firing someone seems a big deal to me. For a dedicated professional like Lavonnia Moore, she's effectively run out of town too. And she's concerned that no matter where she might move to take a library position a hate campaign may follow. It's just so injust!
Here's the GoFundMe for Lavonnia Moore.
Here is a link to a strong editorial in the local press, ‘We need to sit down and talk’. And I must say again that I'm slow to understand Marcy Wheeler distinqution about the uses of language. But here's the mismatch: the paper is appealling to reason instead of understanding the issue as one of power.

Considering its Pride month and I woke up thinking about MCSM last night, here’s some kinda specific queer gender identity headcanons I have for some of the characters
Cassie - There’s too many other issues in her head for her to also worry about her gender identity right now. She simply doesn’t care about it and is ambivalent to how people address her. Some say she’s a woman, some say she’s a man. Whatever floats your boat, just don’t approach her directly. In a healthier environment and actual headspace to deal with that, she’d probably identify somewhere on the non-binary spectrum… but right now she has other issues to deal with.
Aiden - It’s already a popular headcanon, so it shouldn’t be shocking that I think he’s a trans man. That being said, let me get deeper into it. I do believe that during the time we see him in game, he’d be like two or three years into his transition and still having some self image issues. I don’t think his identity would be a root cause for his insecurities, but it definitely does not make it easier. On one hand he feels much more confident than ever, but there’s still some doubt inside, which he tries to overcompensate with his behavior.
Petra - Every time I see someone draw Butch Petra I shed a tear of joy. It makes so much sense to me considering how tough she tries to appeal, how most of her role models are very traditionally masculine. Not to mention that with her whole season two arc there could be a yet another layer of how butches are often times pressured to act. I love it. I need to see more of it.
I’m also digging the idea of Petra having a drag king persona called Mister Butter.
Romeo - He’s kind of a god, so we could probably get into whether or not human understanding of gender qualifies here… but I do think that depowered Romeo specifically identifies as a man, but in a very 70s/80s flamboyant way.
Xara - Similar thing with Xara? I think she’s like an older generation lesbian, where she kinda sees it being both as a gender expression and sexuality? She doesn’t fully get the modern understanding of gender identities and terms, but also is not defensive about it. She’s too chronically exhausted to learn it but will address you as you want. Your name is Jesse, you want to be adressed as they? Sure thing bud. Just give me a piece of quiet. I just want to sleep.
Jesse - Jesse is, was and always will be genderfluid in my eyes. Partially because they’re a player insert, but also I do think that with that in mind, their writing is the most gender ambivalent of all characters? If that makes sense?
Nell - In my eyes Nell is nonbinary, she’s sapphic and she’s the most educated about this topic. She will give you the most eye opening take on identity and politics, and then in the next sentence say the most nonsensical wildest story you’ve ever heard. She’s like a gender Wizard. You never know what to expect, but sure enough you will leave the conversation a changed man.
Olivia - I think she’s a trans woman. I don’t have anything more specific to say, it’s just what seems obvious in my eyes and also you could play around with the idea that Ellegaard was the one to break her egg. I love trans women in STEM. And also there’s the funny dynamic of Axel being the only cis person from the Treehouse trio and having existential dread over whether or not he might also be an egg or not. And Jesse and Olivia teasing him about it.

do you have books about trans men of color? Written by trans men? Asking cause I can never find books with trans people in them, let alone written by them, and it's especially hard to find books about & by trans men, especially trans moc. (Also, I've never once seen a book about a straight trans man, which idk I always feel nervous asking about cause "erm straight ppl can't be queer" or whatever but I want to see some trans het and T4T books)
Anyways, sorry for the bother but I need some new books to read and I've decided to be self indulgent this time around
oh please don’t apologize, you should absolutely be self-indulgent! these (as far as our research shows) all have trans moc main characters and are primarily by trans moc (with a few non-binary authors of color)
Freedom House by KB Brookins (poetry)
Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas (YA)
Black on Both Sides: A racial history of trans identity by C. Riley Snorton (non-fiction)
We See Each Other by Tre’vell Anderson
Felix Ever After by Kacen Callender (YA)
The Passing Playbook by Issac Fitzsimons (YA)
& here are a few more titles from our wishlists that we hope to buy in the future, just to give you a few more ideas
Pretty by KB Brookins (memoir)
Outside the XY by Bklyn Boihood (anthology)
Boys Run the Riot by Keito Gaku (manga)
The Thirty Names of Night by Zeyn Joukhadar (adult fic)
as for trans het or t4t, caveat that the authors & characters here aren’t necessarily POC but I wanted to still give you a few options!
A Lady for a Duke by Alexis Hall (trans femme)
Chef’s Choice by TJ Alexander (t4t)
A Shot in the Dark by Victoria Lee (trans masc)
Stay Gold by Tolby McSmith (trans masc)

🗯️Seeking Fandom Based Roleplay Partners🗯️
A little bit about me: you can call me Wyrm! I am 32, trans man(He/him) with ADHD. I have been roleplaying for over half my life though said life has been hectic so it’s been a few months since I’ve last role played in any complicity so I may be a bit rusty.
I write a couple to several paragraphs, and definitely like to keep things moving. I reply once a day usually but can also get a tad obsessed and go several times a day. But life does happen so we can communicate and be understanding.
What I’m looking for: I am a sucker for AUs, omegaverse, arranged marriages, drama, plot and yes, NSFW. I can get dark but also respect boundaries.
99% of my pairings are mxm or mlm and always cc x cc. I don’t personally care for OCs. I don’t mind side pairing being other combinations of genders but I am a gay man so I would like the main focus to be gay. Non binary or trans interpretations of characters are also encouraged. Give me all the head canons.
Fandoms I am looking for and pairings(who I would like to play is *italicized*. It’s not set in stone though so feel free to ask)
X-men(mostly movies)
*Charles* x *Erik*
Logan x *Scott*
Logan x *Kurt*
DC
*Clark Kent* x Bruce Wayne
The Sandman
Dream x *Hob*
The Witcher
*Jaskier* x *Geralt*
Lambert x *Aiden*
Coen x *Eskel*
*Eskel* x *Geralt*
Harry Potter
Remus x *Sirius*
*James* x Regulus
I only rp on discord, but if any of this sounds interesting to you, please shoot me a message! I would be happy to chat and hopefully start a fun story!

Hello hello! I've been on a reading kick and decided I wanted to share a few of the titles I loved from the stuff I've been reading over the past few months--this isn't everything I've read, just the stuff I really loved!
Please see under the cut for more information on each title!
(A general note: Many of these books can depict dark, triggering, or otherwise sensitive content; they're not necessarily always perfect, either. Please look up content warnings as you need before reading, and if you have any questions, please feel free to message me.)
"Hell Followed With Us" by Andrew Joseph White (LGBTQIA+, M/M, Post-apocalyptic, Horror, Trans MC) - Honestly this is such a good book. The writing is so visceral, and it touches on a lot of issues within the trans and LGBTQIA+ community I don't see talked about a lot. It's a truly fantastic read.
"The Taking of Jake Livingston" by Ryan Douglas (LGBTQIA+, M/M, Supernatural, Horror) - A truly thrilling read! It follows Jake, a gay and Black high schooler, as he deals with a vengeful ghost and racism and homophobia at school. It's a bit heavy, but definitely worth the read.
"The Mermaid, The Witch, and The Sea" by Maggie Tokuda-Hall (LBGTQIA+, F/NB, Fantasy, Genderfluid MC) - I looooved this book. The slow development of Flora and Evelyn's relationship was so good, and the topics it explores were really interesting. I love how integrated the fantasy elements were to the setting, as well.
"Phoenix Extravagant" by Yoon Ha Lee (LGBTQIA+, F/NB, Fantasy, Non-binary MC) - Local artist who absolutely doesn't want to be involved in politics finds themself in the middle of all the politics. Really, though, this is a great novel about the Japanese colonization of Korea in a fantasy setting--it truly is awesome, and I loved the characters!
"The Sunbearer Trials" by Aiden Thomas (LGBTQIA+, M/M, Fantasy, Trans MC) - I. Love. This. Novel. First off, it's really cool to see Latin American mythology get its own Percy Jackson treatment, and I just love that it also has vague Hunger Games vibes but with slightly more hope for the good nature of humanity (a.k.a, my shit). All the characters are wonderful, and I adored the plot and the developments! I highly recommend checking this one out!
"To Your Eternity" by Yoshitoki Oima (Manga, Gen, Fantasy) - Specifically, I read the recent volumes from the new arc, and the story is absolutely amazing. Anyone who hasn't read this manga series, I highly recommend jumping in without any foreknowledge for a comprehensive breakdown of love, connection, loss, and grief.
"Trigun: Maximum" by Yasuhiro Nightow (Manga, Gen, Sci-Fi, Adventure) - Everyone knows I adore Trigun by now. Seriously it's just so so good, please read it (or watch either of the anime)!
"Is Love The Answer?" by Uta Isaki (LGBTQIA+, Manga, Gen, Slice of Life, Aroace MC) - A wonderful exploration of what life and relationships are like for a particular sex-replused aroace main character entering college.
"Witch Hat Atelier" by Kamome Shirahama (Manga, Gen, Fantasy) - This series will never cease to impress me with its lovely art, its compassionate handling of the topics it tackles, and the amazing way the plot continues to twist and develop. It's a wonderful read!

(This is about specifically the people who comfortably throw “theyf*b” around but don’t use similar slurs against binary trans men. There’s still plenty of people, although not as popular, who do. This is also a VERY long deconstruction)
Something I’ve noticed with the term “theyf*b”… us trans guys do in fact get reduced to our genitals sometimes like “cuntboy” and the like, but it’s specifically “theyf*b” that’s being defended so much. Why this? Why target specifically nonbinary people? Why aren’t the big popular blogs defending the use of it, not so keen or enthusiastic about cuntboy, and not to give them ideas, but “hefab”? We’ve got birthday boy, Aiden, etc… Like actually. If we follow along with the theory that men, in all demographics, specifically including trans men, hold power and benefit over the oppression of women, we can presume that trans men benefit from exorsexism as well and oppress nonbinary people, who are not men. (I do know binary privilege is real, but I know trans men don’t have male privilege to be clear).
From this, the best way to dismantle patriarchy in the trans community would be for trans women and nonbinary people being united and working together in this as two groups that have in common of being oppressed by trans men. However the TMA/TME dichotomy doesn’t quite allow this as not all nonbinary people are TMA, because they have “afab privilege” (cis nonbinary guys don’t exist in their minds), suspiciously, you’ll notice that those who support these theories often have not much to say when it comes to exorsexism against nonbinary people within our own community. They’ll talk about aspects of exorsexism, intersexism, and how it relates to them very often, such as what life is like when you’re viewed as a third gender/sex. But only the parts they’re affected by (huh almost as if they understand you’re not exempt from a specific type of oppression just for not being a “primary target” of it and your own specific oppression is heavily related to and overlaps similar ones).
Still, by the theory, non binary people that aren’t men, even if tme, would be good allies to have. They’re trans, and they’re also not men. Some might be fem, too. If you’re going to use a derogatory slur from actual Nazi transphobes from 4chan, or invent a new slur, ideally it’d be against your primary oppressors, and not potential allies who you share an oppressor with. And if you do, you’d still primarily target the oppressor with “hefab” or something. Isn’t it okay because it’s “punching up”? Like I’m sure a lot of these people would dismiss these words as “just a joke” yet mysteriously still shy away from using those slurs themselves.
Part of why I know why, is because of trying to separate “trans” and “man” with trans men. It has to be emphasized that we are MEN. We are privileged. Using slurs related to having a vulva against us is counter intuitive to the agenda. We’re accused of weaponizing our sex assigned at birth and clinging to it too hard when we talk about misogyny in our lives. Reducing us to it only lends us credence. You’ll likely get called out for the transphobia and essentially calling trans men females. Lose any hope of a trans man ever talking to you again and lose any hope of building a community outside of your online echo chamber. You won’t be able to get your “supportive tme” trans guy friends to ever swallow the bitter pill of being called female or fucking cuntboy no matter how many times you say it’s punching up. People in real life will treat you like you’re fucking weird even more now.
Nonbinary people however… have usually been the more accepted targets. Why ally with them when you could easily scapegoat them? (Like fucking always) They’re part of the community that is much smaller, has less representation, stereotyped as being teens, with their silly pronouns and genders that we can point and laugh at to get validation points from the cishets sometimes.
Furthermore, not every nonbinary person socially imposed as male, is TMA. There’s cis nonbinary guys, or nonbinary Demi boys that used to be cis boys, or they/them but not transfem. Since they’re not transfem, and transmisogyny specifically targets transfems and trans women, why not “theym*b” to go along with this? Why not punch up against them? The only counter argument I’ve heard to this point is that nonbinary transfems are often reduced to being just cis guys by nonbinary trans mascs and genderfluid people. However I’m not talking about nonbinary transfems and that counter argument was intentionally obtuse. I’m referring to “TME” nonbinary people that aren’t afab, or transfem. Why are all the “he/theys” you don’t like trans men/masc? I know many he/they guys that are socially imposed as male, my boyfriend is one. Is he not an oppressor? Why do you need to specify “afab” when talking about “TME” nonbinary people when not all of them are?
Anyone that defends this slur knows damn well what they’re doing and it’s shameful. I’m sorry to nonbinary people that have seen this shit, you deserve better. You deserve better allies. Those that believe “well they’re not talking about me specifically, just shitty nonbinary people”, someone being a shit person is never an excuse to misgender them, intentionally say something that could trigger dysphoria, or letting your nonbinary siblings be boiled down to “whiny females with silly pronouns”
