i need to get better at corpo interviews but the thing is i suck at lying and i can't convincingly say that i want to work for any of them. and i do not want to work in this shitty corporate field i made the mistake to enter.
and i'm too poor and too uneducated to just go to college or anything similar.
"what are your plans and ambitions in this field?"
"um, i wanna gather enough money to be able to study something else and fucking leave it??"

💖 Slight 14DWY + Blog Changes! 💖
(16/12/23)
Leon will now move away from Corland Bay when he’s 10 years old. Originally, I never really put that much thought into it because it won't be explicitly mentioned in the game, but I figured I might as well make it more accurate now ^^;
Teo is now 26 (instead of 27). Again, zero thought went into this aside from wanting a wider range of ages for the cast — but now I want him to be closer to Jae and Violet’s age — especially considering they were all childhood friends and Violet was in the grade below them.
Elanor is now 30 and Kiara is 29. In the 2017 version, Elanor was originally the eldest sister, but it just didn't feel right to change it in the 2020 version. Day 3 will still be lore accurate, but everything on this blog will need to be retconned.
14DWY Purple (unofficial) will now be changing from #A14BF4 to #9D64FD.
Not a change, but adding more clarification: Angel will still attend university (and Jae and Teo will still be their university friend), but whether or not they enrolled will remain ambiguous! Day 1/2 kinda insinuates that they studied something ("Teo attended some of their classes"), but I wanted it to imply that they could've attended orientation and/or took "mock classes" after high school to see what it's like as well. I may change a few lines in the demo (in the future) to reflect that.
Egg
I'd like to (hopefully) try to remind everyone that whenever I write about Angel on this blog, they are gender neutral. Because if my ass had a dollar for every time someone assumed they were female because of the cutesy/pink themes or how "soft" I made the MC, I'd have enough money to fund voice actors, translators, custom soundtrack, and pay the $100 Steam fee /hj
Changed the crackpot theory tag into an actual tag!! About time sdghjdg
(07/01/24)
Also not a change, but to solidify Haruko's appearance + Ren's likeness a bit more... Haruko is supposed to be an anime character with pink/blue hair, blue eyes, and fair skin. He's a modern day "sorcerer" (a reference to JJK, not a literal fantasy wizard lmao) from an anime called "Attack on Giants" (another reference to "Attack on Titan"); and is very kind, ditzy, and empathetic. All Ren has copied is his hairstyle, vibe, and demeanour. Ren isn't outright cosplaying Haruko, and it'd take an avid anime enjoyer to notice that Ren is attempting to mimic Haruko.
I'll make a poll one day, but I might change Ren's left sleeve tattoo to the spoiler-free placeholder I used in this artwork. A lot of people seem to prefer it, but I'll wait until the poll to make any final decisions.
I might also make another poll to see if perhaps a new BGM theme would better suit the demo. Because in my mind, the "summer/beach location" = acoustic guitar (rather than piano) — and for some reason I get lo-fi vibes from 14DWY??
I don't think anyone has picked up on this subtle shift yet, but Ren will mainly use "he/him" over "he/they" now (since Haruko is a he/him enjoyer 👍). [REDACTED], however, will still greatly prefer "they/he", and will continue to use them interchangeably.
21/02/24 — or search through Obsidian. (Future Sai here.... I have no clue what this means???? What??? T_T)
I'm gonna cut down on the Teo and Ren bullying on this blog (and in general). I don't find it fun anymore, and it genuinely upsets me when people put down certain characters to make others look better (i.e. "Ren has no ass which makes Leon superior >:)" Just say you like Leon... I beg T_T). It also makes me doubt whether Ren is genuinely a good character or not, and it's gross seeing y'all tear down people who genuinely enjoy Teo. Be kind.
(11/01/24)
Eventually, I'd like to turn this meme into an event in the 14DWY Discord to help create an actual landlord for Day 3. The current landlord has always been a meme-y placeholder (I thought the idea would be funny), but looking at how the game is currently, I want 14DWY to be more "serious". The current landlord will eventually be turned into an easter egg!!
Whether or not Jae had bottom surgery will now remain ambiguous. Everyone is now free to headcanon whatever they'd like, so long as it's not offensive or too OOC.
From now on, I'll also try my best to remind everyone that Jae is gay and Kiara is lesbian. I tried not to bring it up frequently because I was afraid it'd come across like "being gay" was their only defining personality trait, but I'm tired of people sending in asks that don't apply to these characters ^^;
I might move all of the curiouscat questions to this blog and archive the account. It's becoming too much of a hassle for me to manage 3+ social media accounts sgkshjj

Working through all the episodes of Ergo Proxy over the New Year. Decided to take a break from resume bombing. Every episode on Hulu ends in dead silence and it took me awhile to notice in the credits that the end title is credited as Radiohead's "Paranoid Android." Long story short is that it probably got unlicensed for streaming which is slightly odd because Disney owns a portion of it. It makes the Kid A song in The Creator seem extra noticeable to me. It's such a thematic plot point in the movie that it is part cinematic and part music video. Do we live in this era where you create a body of work and then suddenly years like they just edit out a song because of licensing. Simply because some artist didn't get enough money. I remember Thom Yorke lecturing about how he would never put his music in a commercial because he believed music created solid memories. He didn't want those memories attached to something that could tarnish the sanctity of the original article. That echoes in the case of this anime. And yet it also works with the series because the eerie silence at the end is meditative of amnesia. I also remember him playing dance mania records in Tokyo at an undercover show. But never remember any of those cats benefitting from it career wise. Sort of like the people who actually wore undercover and were mislabeled by the police. It's all kind of like the blues. You envy the sound and the feeling for the moment. You study with the masters and years later they die anonymous, alone and of kidney failure. Politics and speeches are more performative in nature. They will appropriate the culture as they see fit but they don't live by it's side. Japanese anime is timeless. But the songs they license are not. And artists turning their back on culture they used to infiltrate a geography when convenient seems hollow. Just like the blues. You stood by it when it suited you but abandoned the roots when the bottom line didn't meet your budget. The genuine articles still exist years later. In the case of Ergo Proxy, we're talking 2006. It can be uneven at times but the mood and the characters carry it through a very ethereal polemic. I don't think a song missing really hurts the narrative at all. It's just like the past. Even though you know you are fine without it. You do notice it's missing and that void reveals a certain intent that maybe wears some arguments thin. Maybe you are better off without it. But it still ends up in the end credits and on your resume now doesn't it?

....
Demetria Fontaine was lying on the sofa in her library, reading one of her friend Lyla's books from the Academy. She remembered some of the material herself. She had her legs draped over the arm of the chair, happy to be lounging around after a long day.
Today was dreadful.
They had been already preparing for the next games, and Demetria, obliging as she was to her duties, had done as she always did. She ensured everything was working as it should in the control room and on the floor where they all worked. She kept analytics and helped devise the beautiful traps and treacheries. That was the part she was not so good at. The creativity. Which is why she had been appointed to numbers, data, the mechanisms of it all.
She had done well, and yet she was called to Coriolanus Snow’s office to be disciplined in the most passive-aggressive of manners. Because nothing was straightforward in the Capitol. In this world.
He expected her to do more. Do better. Snow, who was practically her age. Who only recently acquired any status. Boy, did he revel in it. She saw it today, more than ever, when he wasted her time. Bit into an apple and kept her there like a plaything. As if he were better than her. Cold and calculated he had looked at her, though he offered the calmest of smiles and gazes. Of course. What was he without such pleasantries.
He was a snake, like the rest of them. Like her own bloodline. Pretty and selfish and manipulative. Otherwise, he would not have climbed his way to his position so quickly.
“So how are your studies going?” she asked her friend, as she realized her thoughts had strayed from the reading material. Lyla was in front of Demetria's computer. She would come here when she needed to do some schoolwork.
“Honestly? I’m a little overwhelmed. I have all these reports to finish, and my mother doesn’t stop hounding me about finding work. Roger, God I love him, he tries to help, but -”
Roger was Lyla's long-time boyfriend, and although not exactly very resourceful, he seemed kind and genuine. She hoped for her friend's sake - her friend, who was something like a little sister to her - that he really was.
“Lyla-"
“Maybe I shouldn't be studying at all. We need the money-”
“That's ridiculous. You know I could help,” Demetria interrupted, placing down the book and crossing her arms.
“You know I don’t want that,” Lyla sighed.
“But then what are friends for?” Demetria joked. “I’m kidding. But really. You don’t have to suffer. It wouldn’t hurt to take my help.”
“I know, Dee. I just feel weird about it. This is enough. You just having me here...” she pondered, typing up something on the computer.
“Fine. At least let me finish one of your reports,” she leaned over on her stomach and nudged her friend gently on the shoulder.
Lyla sighed in defeat.
“Fine,” she rolled her eyes, and stood, switching seats with her friend. “It’s due Monday. Don’t make it sound too…fancy or anything. Remember It’s my first year. It should seem like it.”
“You make it seem as if I can’t be convincing. Relax, I know exactly how I need to make it sound.”
Demetria sat in front of the computer, seeing what Lyla was working on. Something about ethics in advancements in weaponry. Very on the nose for the University. Predictable. She read over Lyla’s work so far, corrected some errors.
“How was work today by the way?” said Lyla.
“Fine,” Demetria shrugged as she typed away. Then she spared a glance at her friend, who was now lounging on the seat enjoying a cup of coffee. “Well, actually, it was a bit of an annoying day. I got called into Snow’s office."
"Snow?"
"Yes, our Head Gamemaker. I felt like I was in the Academy again getting called to the office.”
Which had happened a few times. Luckily, by the time she had reached the University, she had learned to keep a lower profile and improved conduct.
“Except the 'professor' in this case is barely older than I am. Good God. It’s ridiculous. And since when do Head Gamemakers have a private office?” she went on.
"What?"
"Yes. He didn't have one last year. This year, a whole pretty office."
“Well, what happened? Why did he call you in?” said Lyla. She was always so interested in what went on in the planning stages of the Games, and Demetria worried she almost admired it all.
“Honestly I have no idea. Something tells me our Gamemaker creates problems in his own mind.”
She turned a page from Lyla’s book on the desk too quickly and the paper cut her a little.
“Ow,” she winced and sucked some of the blood.
“Well, he probably knows people talk about him. There must be rumors…” Lyla said.
“Yes. Well, I don’t talk much about him...I think he is…” she waved a hand in the air. “Telling me to work harder. Something like that. Threatening me to do so. He's done that before with some others.”
“Hm…That’s not weird at all.”
Demetria laughed.
“That’s how these people are. They like to keep people on the edge. After all, we live in a place that makes children pay for the sins of their fathers.”
Lyla remained silent.
“So what do you want to do?” she said. “In the future?”
“My parents want me to continue work in the Capitol. Move my way up to the cabinet to show I am more than deserving of my place,” she scoffed a little. “I reckon if they couldn’t pay my way there, my parents would have me sleep with the President to get there.”
Even though she was of age she knew she was still immature, a child entirely under her parent's control.
“Demetria – don’t say that,” Lyla said shocked.
Maybe it was shocking to Lyla, hardworking but a little sheltered. Though she could say the same about herself, Demetria knew her parents had no limits to how they would use their children. She doubted anyone here did.

Random Pete Story.
Did I stay up until 2:00 in the morning to post an angst fanfic about Pete? Yes, I did. Do I regret it? No, I do not. I quite like how this story turned out to be honest. Considering both the character and genre were completely randomized, it came out pretty nice. I do want to give a content warning for mentions of suicide, however.
Other than that, I'm kind of an aspiring writer and I'm trying to write short stories in order to improve my writing skills. If there are any more experienced writers reading this, constructive criticism is greatly appreciated!
Hope you like the story!
______________________________________________________________
There was a question Peter Kowalski asked himself a lot. "Am I ungrateful?" Sure, it was a basic question. It's a simple yes or no for most. No being the most common answer, but for Pete, he honestly didn't know. There were a lot of things about him that screamed: "ungrateful." Though there were also quite a few that didn't.
He had a nice, loving mother that cared deeply about him and showed it every chance she got. While his father was often busy and wasn't one for affection, Pete knew that he was loved. The way he asked about his day and how he was. The way he'd genuinely listen and provide support for Pete whenever he got a worrying answer was enough to deduce that.
He had a nice house and a lovely bedroom that he loved to relax in. He had a big, loving family that came around during the holidays. His grades were excellent. Not only because he was naturally intelligent, but he also studied hard and it always paid off. He had an A in every class. Except for PE, that is.
He was good at art. Like, really good. He was drawing and painting better than most teenagers at the age of 7. It was one of the few things he could show off or talk about and not be embarrassed after. He wanted to be a comic book illustrator. He hasn't told too many people about that for fear of being made fun of. Even though anyone with two working eyes could see that he'd be awesome at it.
Pete often surveyed all the good in his life and felt bad quickly afterward. He felt ashamed. Guilty for all of his complaining and thoughts. Because even though he had such good things going for him, he felt worthless.
At school, everything was hell. He had no friends whatsoever. No one that he felt a connection with. No one that gave him the time of day. He always sat at the back of the class observing as people chatted along happily with their friends. Sharing interests, secrets, and emotions. Something that he never got to do with anyone. He sat alone in the cafeteria and felt embarrassed. Embarrassed that everyone could see how lonely and friendless he was. He was so tired of feeling that way that he started to avoid stepping foot in the cafeteria altogether. He just went to his dorm room to draw or read a book. Completely alone.
There were times when he was noticed. Though they weren't for good reasons. The only times he wasn't invisible was when a bully needed some money or a jock was bored of picking on nerds. He was pushed, punched, and kicked. Those things hurt of course, but they didn't hurt the worst. What hurt the worst was the insults. Being called a "freak" or "friendless." Having the bad things you thought about yourself be confirmed by other people was one of the pains in the world.
Not to mention the way people walk by or ignore everything that's happening. They just watch and laugh as you get beat to the point of unconsciousness. They ignore you as you get told to kill yourself. After a while, you start to wonder if you should.
As I said earlier, Pete hates these thoughts. They make him feel ungrateful. His family and parents all care so much for him. They risked so much just to make sure he was happy and healthy. Yet, he thought about things like suicide. He thought of himself as selfish. So, Pete tried his best to not be.
He stayed alive and lied to his parents every time they asked how he was doing. He fake smiled and laughed when it was appropriate. He went about his school days in a way that no one would notice how sad he was. That didn't take too much effort as no one paid attention to him in the first place.
Pete plans to keep doing this. Even if it starts to drive him insane, he can't hurt his parents. He doesn't want them to worry. Not after all they've done for him.
Pete's answer to his question is somewhere in the middle. If he gives in to his thoughts. If he gives up on everything and does what he's been told to do every day at school, then yes. He is ungrateful. Though if he continues his facade of happiness. If he smiles and laughs for his parents every day and goes along like everything's fine at school, then he's not. Pete often ponders about which one it'll be in the end. Truth be told, he doesn't know.

MY EDUCATIONAL AUTOBIOGRAPHY
My educational journey has had numerous difficulties, but I have persevered and triumphed. I've had the impression that I have a fixed mindset and am simply incapable of accomplishing certain goals. After studying the difference between a growth and a fixed mindset, I learned that anyone, with enough effort and determination, can learn anything. College is stressful since it has the potential to shape my future. It is my fault if I do not succeed in college; my money and effort will be wasted. Success in college is the key to living the ideal life in today's culture. The truth is that students will experience challenges in college that may lead to failure.
Many people believe that education is only something you get in school, yet education comes from a variety of sources, not just schools and teachers. For example, long before I entered school, my parents were already educating me; they taught me how to eat, behave, use the bathroom, talk, and a variety of other life skills. "How to behave politely with people, Say thank you when you get something, Say please when you want something, Always wish our elders and greet youngers," are just a few of the wonderful habits I acquired. When I was in my first year of college, it was quite difficult for me. I took up Bachelor of Early Childhood Education and it's difficult since I don't want to take that course, but as time goes on, I'm growing to like it. I'm grateful that I made it through a year. And now I'm in my third year. I choose to continue this course because working with children has turned out to be one of my greatest passions. I was unclear at first if I wanted this passion of mine to be a career choice. I want to work with young children because they are our future and need to be well-prepared in order to succeed and make the world a better place. This course has taught me a lot, but the most important thing I've learnt is how to communicate well, which I can apply everywhere. I've found that the course isn't that difficult; all you need is patience, dedication to your studies, and time management so that you can always meet the deadlines. During this pandemic, I have encountered a lot of challenges and it's difficult for me. We generally study on our own because we are in online classrooms. It's not always good for my mental health. My mental health looks to have deteriorated as a result of several school activities. My academic career has been an emotional roller coaster, and I've constantly told myself, "I wish I had simply stuck with school and completed right away." If it weren't for the fact that my concept of "learning" differed greatly from the majority of people's, I'd be much happier. I've been living my life for 20 years from now and I know to myself that I haven't experienced some things yet. And I also know that there are more to experience in life that's why my philosophy in life is "To learn more" because I know to myself that I'm not that fully experienced person. Even though I know I can achieve more in life, I sometimes just sit here in my comfort zone. I also think of myself as a naive person because there are so many things I don't understand. There are times when I spend a lot of time thinking negatively, and it feels like I'm being followed by a dark. But there's a glimmer of optimism every now and then that I'll get through it and feel better soon. Sometimes in life we may experience some problems, or some negative circumstances but we should just live our life to the fullest and learn new experiences because, as for me, I know that these will all go away and serve as a lesson. Also, I've learnt that we should accept the outcome or consequences of whatever actions we take. So keep a positive attitude and be happy. Never lose hope if you work hard and don't give up. Surround yourself with people who are pleasant, warm, and genuine. Be open to criticism and continue to learn.
Learning is a lifelong process for all people, but it is arguably even more important for educators. My knowledge, learning, and thinking skills may constantly be improved. I want to appreciate my future life as much as I have liked and learned from my previous life (school and college).

heyyyy heres a script for a speech on trans rights i have to give in class soon
any suggestions or criticisms are helpful, it has to be between 2-3 minutes and rn measures at roughly 2:50
There are ten stages of genocide. I was nine years old when I realized for the first time that I was in the middle of number six, and a just a few months ago it dawned on me that we’re now in stage eight: active genocide. They. Are. Killing us. And you – yes you –  can do something about it, but are making the active choice not to.
Us being transgender people. Transgender is defined by the American Psychological Association as “an umbrella term for persons whose gender identity, gender expression or behavior does not conform to that typically associated with the sex to which they were assigned at birth.”
My name is {irl name}. I’m trans, I know, looking back, that I always have been but when I was nine I gained a word to put to it. I use he/him pronouns even though my birth certificate says I’m a girl. But I’m so much more than that simple contradiction. I’m a person. I like sharks and drawing and playing doom. I want to be a tattoo artist when I’m older. I laugh and I cry and I’m a human being.
But some people don’t see it that way.
A conservative political action conference speaker, Michael Knowles, said this year on camera; “Transgenderism must be eradicated.” Yet, he goes back. Claims that when he says this he’s not saying that trans people should be eradicated, just the ideology.
But that’s simply not how it works, and this is the leadup to the excuse of a literal mass murdering. You can’t kill the idea of being gay, only gay people. And that’s what they’re doing, and that’s what they did.
And they have no arguments except the ones being recycled from the attack on gay people. We’re not delusional, a study by the National Institute of Health shows that the brains of trans women more resemble the female sex. And even if that wasn’t the case: gender isn’t real. Sex is but even then it’s not that black and white because there are women with XY chromosomes and high testosterone and vice versa. Gender is a social construct just like money and language and therefore is flexible. DIfferent countries have entirely different ideas of sex and gender. There is so much evidence against transphobic arguments that prove It’s not because you are thinking of the children or because we wish you harm, it's because you are scared of what does not align with your concept of normal.
This basic, basic level of respect that we have to stoop down to beg people for is something that can literally save lives. And they turn their heads and say we’re throwing a fit over nothing.they call it ‘trans activists throwing fits over nothing’ even though The National Institute of Health tells us that data indicates that 82% of transgender individuals have considered killing themselves and 40% have attempted suicide, with suicidality highest among transgender youth. Is that something enough or do you not care for the lives of our youth? What happened to think of the children?
I’m one of the children. Just last year I was violently suicidal because I could not see my future in America as a trans person, especially not a black trans person. My future looked bleak in a country where police brutality, homelessness, poverty, bullying, depression, and violent discrimination were all things I’d probably be subject to. Thursday, February 10th, 2022, I tried to kill myself. I went to school the next morning without telling anyone, stuck with this horrible dread in my stomach. I’m in therapy now and doing hugely better, but that doesn’t negate the point that I was so painfully aware that my country actively hated me that I wanted to kill myself.
But it’s not inevitable. You don’t have to go give speeches in front of courts, but you can do something. Support the trans people in your life, be a safe space as a person because there are people in this very school genuinely scared to come out because of the environment we have created. Do research, care. Donate to things like The Trevor Project which will do the talking for you and put money towards mental health for queer teens. We are dying but we are not a hopeless cause. You can do something. Doing nothing will lead to some poor child sitting and watching the news and realizing that we are in stage ten of transgender genocide. Doing nothing will kill us.

@quickdeaths asked:  Words of Affirmation!
5 Love Languages headcanons meme - Accepting!
Words of Affirmation
Tumblr media
does your muse like giving compliments?
Absolutely. Sonia loves giving sincere compliments to others, especially when she believes they are in need of some self-esteem boosting! She won’t compliment someone if it isn’t sincere though, and she will look for the best in everyone, all the time. There are very few people who are irredeemable to her, at least in some way.
She can and will praise and hype up your muse, whether they want it/need it or not.
how easy is it for your muse to say ‘ i love you’?
This depends on her age/verse, but it’s the easiest for her to say this to someone she considers a friend, and some of her family members. As far as romantic relationships are concerned, a younger/teenage Sonia would be more apt to tell someone directly she loves them, particularly if they aren’t in a relationship yet, than an older Sonia. This is because in her older verses, she’s had more life experience and as a legal adult, she has to deal with the realities of being a public figure and the press. There’s always a lot more on the line for Sonia as an adult when entering a romantic relationship: there’s pressure for her to start dating actual marriage prospects, and she has a responsibility to her family and country to marry and birth children. Regardless, she isn’t quick to say ‘I love you’ in the first place, at least to anyone she considers a romantic prospect. She’s pretty hesitant to enter romantic relationships: whether it’s because she’s only temporarily studying abroad or there’s just so much pressure from her family/society/the media to make the “right choice.”
It’s all so romantic in fairy tales until you realize all the aristocrats you’re supposed to make a match with are mostly incompatible with you at best, selfish, arrogant as.sholes at worst
what is one compliment your muse is dying to hear?
Her taste in hobbies/interests/fandoms! Listen, Sonia is told constantly that she’s beautiful, she’s elegant, she’s graceful, she’s poised, she’s perfect as a princess and will be a beautiful queen too. She’s tired of it.
Instead, someone with a genuine interest in her hobbies compliments her taste? They like the same anime or drama she’s enjoying, or the same books she reads, or is happy to take part in a horror movie marathon? Bonus if they come with horror movie suggestions?
Heck, even just complimenting her shooting skills, military skills, academic skills (she’s very good in her academics!)?
She’s so happy to hear it. Anything besides how pretty she is, rich she is, and how perfect and pure of a princess she is.
what is something your muse loves being praised for?
Her political and philanthropic projects, always. In so many interviews, parties, and other royal events, she’s praised for her looks or how much money her family can spend on various things, charitable or not. Instead, Sonia loves when other people notice her actual work as a princess: foundations she’s formed or contributed to that have changed lives, legislation she helped draft that her father and the Royal Council eventually passed. Even if, at times, she feels she isn’t doing enough or could be doing more, praising her for what she’s already been able to accomplish professionally is important to her. Even better: praising her and then volunteering time to help her or an organization/project that’s important to her.
And of course: being praised for those combat, dancing, academics, horseback riding skills, etc. And as long as your muse isn’t being facetious about it: if her cooking somehow doesn’t kill them, praise her for her cooking. I promise you, Sonia is making every effort she can to feed and clean up after your muse! She’s been heavily influenced by slice of life anime/manga/dramas where female characters do such things for the ones they love.
Unfortunately, she just has no skill at all in them. She’s awful at household chores and art/music.

(Two things, 1. This is my first time requesting so I'm sorry if this is not the thing to do it, and 2. Sorry if somethings is misspelled or grammatically incorrect, eng is not my first language:p)
May I request some of the bros, specially Mammon, Luci and Satan, with a MC who's similar to Lucifer in some aspects (like, some of their manners are the same as his and sometimes they're little bit too strict) and after a while they discover that its bc MC is also an older sibling. And (only if you want) meeting their younger sibling, please 🙏
Btw love your works ♡♡♡
Lucifer Number 2~
(Feat. GN!MC and the Demon Bros)

Lucifer
It doesn't occur to Lucifer how similar the two of you are, but the first thing he realizes is how pleasant conversations with you can be. You both share common interests, your tastes suit his own, and you seem to be the only competent person in this house.
You're the responsible type, and he likes it. He'll sometimes find you scolding his brothers for their behavior too, and as amusing of a sight as that may be, he doesn't want you to be burdened with their idiocy.
AND you're the eldest sibling in your household? Cheers to that. You too know the weight of being the responsible oldest, and the role one must take to ensure their siblings grow up well. You too know that you'd rather your siblings have things easier than you did.
But there's one thing he finds annoying... You can NEVER speak your feelings, and act as if it’d kill you to do so. He can respect secrecy when it's appropriate, but Lucifer would like to know what's on your mind. Not only that, but you can be HORRIBLY headstrong. There's nothing that can stray you away from what you've already decided.
"MC, I request that you take a few days off from school to do as you please. I've already spoken with Diavolo and your professors, and you've been given an excuse. I know you'll study anyway, so I've dropped off your assignments in your room. But... you should rest. It isn't good for you to be pushing yourself so hard. Hm? You're calling me a hypocrite?"
Mammon
As if one Lucifer wasn't enough. Now there's TWO of em?! Why's his luck gotta be so lousy!
Definitely the first to realize how much like Lucifer you are, and was SHOOK. Seriously, what gives?! What horrors exist in the human world that could've made you like THAT..?
Ever since you showed up, it's been impossible to get away with anything! He can't sneak out of the house because you're always there somehow, you tattle on him when you catch him leaving anyone's room, and you won't even let him copy your homework! What gives?!
Avoids you like the plague. You're no fun! There's only rare moments when you're kinda okay, and he likes those the best. The times when you're kinda sensitive and you'll drop the high and mighty act. But then you're back to being a pest!
"For the billionth time, I ain't got time to study! There's money to be made, and a guy like me ain't gonna waste a second lookin' at a dumb book when I could be- H-Huh?! You're gonna call Lucifer?! N-now, there's no need to be so hasty, right? Oi!! I'm sorry, damn it-!"
Levi
What's the deal with Lucifer number two? As comedic of a trope as that may be, Levi doesn't really care for having two nagging types in the house. Especially a human...
When you're in his room, all you do is nitpick about how he should tidy up and open a window! Don't you know that an otaku's room is his pride and joy?! It's a sacred space not to be trampled on by the opinions of a normie!!!
But still... he has to admit that even if you don't get all the stuff he's talking about, you at least try to understand it. And there are even some of his interests that you're genuinely invested in!
You might be a pain in the neck and harass him about annoying things, but he guesses he can deal with it if you'll actually sit through a TSL marathon with him...
"I-I'll lend you this manga, so make sure you read it! And when you're finished with that, I'll lend you the spin-off series by the author's brother! I know you'll like it, since you're interested in gritty stuff. Oh, and- Huh? My laundry? Y-yeah.... I'll do that.."
Satan
You are... surprisingly good company. Satan enjoys talking to you over afternoon tea, and the two of you share stories between one another.
But still, he can't shake the feeling that there's something... unpleasantly familiar about your personality. It isn't until you say something that sounds suspiciously similar to what Lucifer would say that he realizes who you remind him of. And oh, he hates it.
Tries playing pranks on you, but somehow they never go to plan. How that is is beyond him, but you never fall for anything! No matter how sweet his smile, you're always rightfully suspicious. You're annoyingly meticulous about checking your surroundings, and you're so aware of yourself that it's troublesome! Be more gullible!!
The king of petty has decided that its now his life goal to make you fall for at least one of his pranks. He doesn't care how elaborate he has to make it, or how unrewarding the payoff may be. He'll make you pay for seeing his brother in two places at once.
"MC, would you like to join me this afternoon for a book reading? Though, I'd love it if you could read this book in particular. I think you'll find it very-.... Hm? 'Isn't this the cursed book that makes you grow hair all over your body', you ask? Ahaha.... tch."
Asmo
Come now, there can't be TWO killjoys in the house! That's way too depressing!! It was funny at first to see that there's someone who can match the scary Lucifer's energy, but now it's becoming a nuisance!
You won't even go to the countless parties he's invited you to! Hell, you barely even give yourself room to mess around a little? Isn't it boring being so tightly wound? You're in luck, because the adorable Asmo-chan knows the PERFECT way to let loose~
You'll RARELY let him close to you, and that's usually when you're tired of him harassing you. Then he gets the honor of playing with your hair while you've got no energy to fight back! He'll style it wonderfully for you!
Also nags you to take better care of yourself. You're not a demon, so you have to care for your health! These late night study sessions are giving you bags under your eyes! And stop taking on so many extracurricular activities!
"Geez, MC! I didn't think you'd die from overworking, but that's the path you're headed on! You really are like Lucifer, you know? That being said, I'll do my best to make sure you relax! Shall we begin~?"
Beel
Beel may not be too bothered by Lucifer's strictness, but that doesn't mean he's immune to it. To think that even a human can be like that...
It's nice to see that you can take care of yourself, but aren't you working too hard? Your grades are good and you've got many interesting talents, but you also have to properly rest.
Has started bringing you snacks on the regular. And don't even think about skipping meals, because he won't allow it. He'll literally pick you up and bring you to the table if he has to. And if you're staying up late to study? He'll carry you to bed. Don't try to protest.
Beel is your babysitter now and there's nothing you can do about it. It's good to be responsible, but don't think about trying to take care of everyone else if you can't care for yourself. Now eat these twelve meat buns he bought for you.
"MC, let's eat lunch together. I know you were going to skip because I heard you talking to Solomon earlier, and I won't let you. Ah, don't worry about not having money, because I've already bought you some lunch. Let's eat in the courtyard."
Belphie
NO.... IT CAN'T BE... THIS HAS TO BE A NIGHTMARE....HE WANTS TO WAKE UP....
You're such a drag. You harass him to attend student council meetings, but him about his studies, and won't let him avoid a single obligation he has. What are you, his mother?
Has 100% joined forces with Satan to try to make you fall for many, many unsuccessful pranks. Are you curse proof or something? When he tried a '10 hour bed-head' spell on you, it just rebounded right to him! Then he found out that you'd borrowed a spell repelling amulet from Solomon and realized just how prepared you are...
When you aren't bothering his entire soul by trying to make him do things, you're actually nice to talk to. You're knowledgeable, you pay attention to the people around you, and you can always read a room. He likes to ask you for advice sometimes.
"Aren't you tired of being like that all the time? So... attentive, I mean. You should just take a nap some time. Or better yet, take the week off. Maybe I'll teach you how to properly relax? Then you might finally be able to take that stick out of your- ow... What're you hitting me for?"

part 4 of second choice — ceo!shoto todoroki x gn!reader (x ceo!katsuki bakugo) (1170 words)
part 1. part 2. part 3. (previous)
tw ; minors dni angst, toxic family, low self-esteem, mention of divorce, mention of alcohol
extra info; all the characters are aged up (they are 30)
Tumblr media
10 minutes after the confrontation. your mother called you that night, a few minutes after you left your home.
it was exactly what you didn't need at the time. that endless lecture, one of the thousands she had been giving you since you were little. those words full of venom had lost their importance to you over the years.
all the time the same slanders, the same insults, the same belittling. but it was all your fault, right ?
you were disappointing your family to get your way. how selfish were you?
thanks to your rich parents, you had married a wealthy and influential man in this society. just go to the gala with him, smile at the reporters. be presentable.
and yet that's what you tried to do. for months, for years. you wanted to be perfect for him, for this man. but did he even acknowledge the fact that you were living in the same fucking house ? of course no. so, divorce you from shoto todoroki ? do it, do it and you will be disinherited.
is that what you really want ? to please your family, stay unhappy with this todoroki.
it's the least you can do. you were a spoiled brat, no better than your father said you mother. why didn't you take a cue from your older sister and brother ? they seemed to have made it in life, unlike you.
so don't complain, you had only one purpose in life. just one, it's not too much to ask. to marry a rich young man from high society to raise his children and continue the y/l/n dynasty.
instead you went to law school, studied instead of slutting around with the bourgeois sons of your family friends.
you succeeded, you created your own name, not the name of your maiden or your future husband. you created this image of an influential person. confident, arrogant, the men were at your feet. but then shoto came.
you knew him from afar, a friend of a friend of your father's apparently. the young man was polite at every event, gala. well-bred, intelligent, charismatic, eloquent.
how could you not fall in love with him ?
then you were married to him. and he only needed that haughty look to destroy all those years of work.
he made you feel like a kid by his side, a spoiled, naive and reckless child. that ridicule and shame he made you feel when you had done something you were proud of.
this feeling of inferiority that you had managed to escape from your family, you had found it again with this frightening man. you had become the clown in your own house, the servants must have laughed at your domestic scenes.
he had succeeded in making you forget your wedding anniversary, savoring the pleasures that a man can give you with a simple compliment, or even a small sign of affection. the todoroki had always been a respected, even feared name. because of the father, now because of the son.
so, you were a fool to develop ever stronger feelings for him. ever bigger.
but it wasn't your fault, your parents didn't show you any love, any gesture of affection, you didn't talk that much except for business and inheritance.
their love was cold. reserved, distant. you knew they loved you, and that was enough for you.
you were used to that kind of affection, that was your definition of love.
that's why you were so easily attracted to those who didn't deserve you. those who so easily played on your true love. so easily in love with shoto todoroki and his cold love. that's what you knew well. you felt protected with that, and in danger when they gave you too much. too bad it wasn't reciprocated.
too bad you couldn't see that green jealousy tinting katsuki's cheeks. oh let's talk about katsuki.
that poor idiot who had made this rivalry in his head between him and shoto. he hated him for treating you so badly, neglecting such an extraordinary person as you. what did he see in momo that he didn't see in you ?
this asshole must have had very few neurons to miss the treasure that you were.
but he hated you too. how could you fall in love with him ? when katsuki was standing right in front of you ?
bakugou started from nothing, created this company, built a flourishing empire. and now he's playing with billions of dollars so he can approach you and your family with dignity at the most coveted galas of the moment in all of east asia. fuck, for you, y/n, he even became the enemy of shoto todoroki !
and all you did was complain that shoto didn't compliment your outfit or your new hairstyle. you were brainwashed. he knew that you would always return to shoto like a dog to his master. that all shoto had to do was whistle for you to come back and beg him to let you love him, again and again.
he love you sincerely, it's so pure, so loyal. and itd be the most genuine passion you would ever meet again. but his desire to destroy the todoroki son far exceeded his love for you, y/n.
what a pathetic fate. even in the eyes of your soulmate, between you and revenge, you would be the second choice.
todoroki was standing outside his window with a glass of scotch in his hand. he saw you leaving in the arms of your charming knight, now fleeing him like the plague.
katsuki was waiting for you in his luxury car, ready to take you to your so-called business meeting. seeing you walk away from him, from your home, to throw yourself into the lion's den.
he wasn't jealous, he wasn't happy either. he did not feel lighter or heavier. it's strange, it can't be explained. shoto finally got what he wanted for years. to see you go. and yet.
he turned his head slowly as he saw the car leave the property. his gaze fell on the bed, he foolishly expected to see you in your nightie on the bed, asleep on the edge of the bed. a tired sigh escaped from his lips. the same sentence ran round and round in his head.
you hadn't learned anything from your mistakes. you were always running to rich men who didn't care about you. like him, like bakugou katsuki.
he was almost tempted to look back you. it's true, even though, you had always been a pain in the ass for him.
what did he owe you now ?
"a couple of jerks, what a great pair. tell me you're going to win all her money in the divorce." sighs momo at his side.
shoto had his back to her, now following with his eyes the tiny point of light that was bakugou's car.
"i don't know. but at least we're free of that pain in the ass. she's gone." he says, almost whispering.
the young man put the pen on the desk, close to the sheet of paper that now contained your two signatures.

Genre: hurt/comfort
Written for my Mc, Storm (her name and she/her pronouns used)
Cw: emotional abuse, gaslighting, poor body image, negative self-talk, swearing, eating disorder mention.
Wc: ~2k
A/N: Writing this self-indulgent fic with my Mc Storm bc I've had a shitty weekend with tons of reminders of stuff from my dad and wanted a write/read something about Lucifer providing comfort. If you enjoy Mc insert writings, cool then I hope you enjoy. If not, thats cool too. Just let me do my thing.
Tumblr media
Strom sighs, poking at the food on her plate absent-mindedly as her father continues his endless ranting. He has been talking non-stop for the past half hour, reminding her of all the things he's supposedly done for her in her life. As he has done a million times before, he willfully misconstrues the events of her childhood to make her look like the villain and him like an amazing hero who was hated for no reason.
"-and don't you remember all of the times I gave you money for your schooling?" He scolds loudly, catching the attention of other restaurant patrons.
You mean the $100 you gave me once for text books during my freshman year or college? She sighs, resigning herself to a nod despite her fathers financial contribution to her life being minimal at best, despite his ever-growing wealth. Not even mentioning the fact that any money needed for a car repair or emergency hospital stay was held over her head like she was a burden- but oh, now he says he would go to the ends of the earth to give her anything she needs. Apparently she has remembered it all wrong all this time, based on how he depicts himself so generously.
Storm grits her teeth through the rest of dinner as the ranting only gets worse. There was a commentary on her appearance and how she needs to lose weight and "take better care of herself," as well as complaints of how she didn't call often enough for his tastes. He wasn't a bad father (according to him) after all, so why wouldn't she call?
The end of this stupid formality couldn't come soon enough. The only reason she kept in contact with the bastard was to remain in the will, hoping to finally gain access to her mothers former belongings after her dad's death. Frankly, he has been living much too long for her taste, despite smoking two packs per day and frequently drinking like a monster.
She felt tears prick the back of her eyes as she re-entered the portal back to the HOL- on that barbatos was kind enough to help her learn to manifest in order to maintain some life in the human world. As she approached the front doors, the tears began falling freely, her fathers words still reverberating through her head. A deep sense of guilt welled up in her chest. Perhaps she did remember all of those things wrong...maybe she was just being too sensitive...maybe the problem was she truly wasn't good enough for anyone- in every sense of the term.
She moved through the house silently, ignoring the brother's individual greetings as she passed them by. The behavior was very abnormal for her. Storm was always so genuinely kind, and would never hesitate to return a greeting, even in the most dour of moods. Mammon and Beelzebub were especially concerned, being as she was always mindful of giving them extra attention during their greetings. They followed her to her bedroom, but were shocked when she turned them away with some vague mention of being too tired to hang out and shutting the door in their faces.
Now they were really worried. They knew Storm tended to isolate when she was studying for an important exam, but she never completely shut them out before. They knew going to Lucifer would be their best bet- as no matter how stressed out she was, Storm always made time for the Eldest brother.
Though their admiration for eachother was worn transparently, Storm and Lucifer hadn't yet come to terms with the fact that they truly did want to be together. Whether the reason was the species difference, the issue of mortality, or just the fact that he was too prideful, Lucifer hadn't really made a move, despite Storm's shy advances, in addition to more than one genuine kiss shared between the two. Regardless, he offered a sense of support and stability for her- a safe person to lean on when things were bleak.
She had told him her woes on more than one occasion, particularly in relation to her dad. Lucifer encouraged her to sever ties on more than one occasion, figuring her mental health would be better for it. It wasn't until realizing the reason behind her continued relationship that he backed the suggestion off of her, but he always kept a close eye on her during times where she had to interact with him...and today was no exception.
As Mammon and Beel pounded on office door, Lucifer was already just finishing up his work. He figured Storm would be home soon, but was surprised to see she had come back a bit early from her birthday dinner with her father. Based on the expressions of the two demons when he opened the door, Lucifer expected the worst.
He immediately dropped what he was doing and hurried to her room in a brisk, yet polite pace. Upon trying the handle on her door and finding it locked, Lucifer knocked gently on the door. No response.
He grew more worried the longer he stood outside awaiting her answer to the door. He knocked again, trying desperately to maintain his calm. He leaned into the door to listen in, hearing the shower running from her bathroom. He sighed in relief, knowing that she often used the shower for stress relief. He sent a text to Storm, saying he would be entering her room, before unlocking the door with his master key and letting himself in.
Lucifer shut the door quietly behind him before making his way her bathroom door, which was left slightly ajar. He knocked on the frame, hearing the soft patters of water hitting tile as he nudged the door open slightly.
"Storm?" He called out, now hearing the soft sounds of crying coming from within. Upon entering, he was faced with Storm sitting against the wall of the shower, only half dressed in an oversized shirt gifted to her from Beel and her underwear.
Lucifer felt sympathy well within him at the sight of her curled into herself and crying. Her long, fiery hair was tied back in a messy bun, and her cheeks were puffy, red, and stained with tears. He approached, calling out once more to catch her attention. She winced as he called her name, clutching herself tighter and hiding her head away as Lucifer sat down next to her on the tile floor.
"Storm...what happened?" He cooed. He daped one of his large arms over her shoulder and squeezed gently. "What has he done this time?"
She chews on the inside of her cheek, debating how to respond. Storm decides not to say anything in response, only shrugs. It felt a bit uncomfortable telling Lucifer everything. Despite him having known her father was abusive, he didn't know many specific details- like the fact that his constant scrutiny of her appearance lead her to an eating disorder, for instance.
Lucifer nods, gently pulling Storm a small distance closer into his side. He delicately rubbed her shoulders as her crying ceases. He knew Storm to generally be pretty quiet, unless she was going on about a particular interest that she had especially adored. While he often did enjoy her silent company, this silence was more tense than relaxing. He thought for a moment of what he could say, but he obviously wasn't going to pry if she didn't want to talk about what happened.
As he was lot in thought, the sound of a low growl echoed through the bathroom. Lucifer furrowed his eyebrow in confusion, before turning his attention back to Storm. She appeared to not notice. Upon hearing the noise again, Lucifer deduced it was coming from her stomach.
"Storm, didn't you eat?" He leaned his head down, trying to look into her eyes. She looked away, wiping mucus and tears away from her face with her sleeve. "I thought you went out to dinner with him?"
Storm's body stiffens as she tries to hold back more tears, the comments on her weight and the food she had ordered at the restaurant by her father circling to the forefront of her mind. Her lips tremble as she tries to hold back tears, only pointing in the direction of her sachel that was dropped on the floor a few feet away.
Lucifer hooks the bag with his foot and drags it closer. Upon looking inside, he saw a take out box that was filled to the brim with what he assumed to be her dinner. His heart sank upon realizing Storm hadn't eaten at all, and suspicions run through his head as to why.
But he shakes them away, setting the Styrofoam clamshell on the floor and returning his focus to Storm. "Why didn't you eat? You must be hungry- after all you did skip breakfast today- and lunch- despite my protests."
Storm shakes her head, feeling tears slither down her cheeks once more. "Don't...don't you think I need to refrain from eating so much though?"
Lucifer was taken aback by her comment. "What? Why would I think such a thing?"
She shrugs, hugging herself by the waist. She was painfully aware of how her belly looked in this position, and tried her best to hide it from him. "I dunno. It seems like I just weigh too much. Thats all."
Lucifer furrowed his brow. "I'm not sure i quite understand what you mean."
She glances up at him, eyes still glossy from tears. "Well...I mean...if I'm too overweight, that's bad."
Lucifer sighs, becoming frustrated with Storms vague speech. He collects himself first before poking further into the meaning behind her words. "Why would that be bad?"
She chews her lip for a moment, before replying in a mousey tone. "Well...I'm not going to be attractive enough, and you know...im 26, and he's really been hounding me about marriage and grandchildren, and-"
Lucifer hushes her, his voice holding a tone of disbelief as he finally understands what she is saying. "Your father wants you to starve yourself so you can find a mate??"
She nods sheepishly. "Yeah...A good one at least."
Lucifer sighs, effortlessly pulling Storm into his lap. She squeaks in surprise, but shockingly doesn't fight it. Usually when Lucifer tries to urge her closer, she anxiously backs away...so this is a newer change of pace.
He brushes a strand of hair back from her eyes, staring deeply into her hypnotic icey-blue irises. "Storm...you do not need to do such things to your body to get someone to find you attractive."
She tries to turn her head away, but he catches it in his palm, gently guiding her gaze back up to his. "You're beautiful the way you are, both inside and out. Just because some foolish human can't see that doesn't mean you're unworthy of love."
She looks away from his eyes for a moment. "But even the men I've dated in the past have said similar things."
Lucifer scoffs. "Are you suggesting those idiots really knew what it means to observe something beautiful? Frankly, it sounds like they took that piece of you forgranted. Some humans are completely void of intelligence it would seem."
Storm furrows her brow and meets his gaze once more. Lucifer feels his heart flutter in his chest, his pride urging him not to express how he truly feels, but his love for the Human woman held so delicately in his arms overpowered his sin.
"You are beautiful, Storm." He whispers, leaning in closer to her face so that their foreheads nearly touch. "I...I think you're the most beautiful specimen I've ever had the pleasure of knowing."
She blushes, turning her head away. Lucifer chuckles, hooking his finger underneath her jawline and turning her head back toward him.
"I'm not sure why I haven't told you before, but I suppose late is better than never, hmm?" He smiles warmly, closing the small gap between. Lucifer places a kiss gently on her lips, savoring their softness for. Moment before pulling away.
Storm blinks her eyes back open, and the two stare at each other for a moment. Storm's heart beat so fast it felt as if it may burst, and Lucifers seemed to stop, as if anticipating Storm's next move.
After a long moment of silence, Lucifer lifted Storm and carried her back to her bedroom. "What do you say we go out to a better dinner- as a date. Would that take your mind off of things?"
Storm gave a weak, but genuine smile at the prospect of going to dinner with the man she adored in a not-so-secret manner. He smiled back, feeling his heart flutter once more. He would do everything in his power to help her forget that old fool- even for just a few hours. Maybe someday he'd give the bastard a piece of his mind, but for now all his focus would be on making sure Storm felt special, as she deserved.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
God writing this already makes me feel so much better. I hope you enjoy it but again this was mostly for me, haha.
I was reading through your tags and you mentioned at some point the kazuscara roommates finding your onlyfans and I think I completely combusted—thus i present to you my brain rot of late: you attend the same school as them but you’re not actually friends, all you know about kazuha is that he’s the friendly regular at the cafe you work at, who makes polite conversation every now and then but otherwise is nothing of note. In reality he’s been stalking you for weeks ever since your first encounter, and is dead set on the idea that you’re this innocent, weak thing that needs to be protected (maybe he stepped in when you had a bad customer and your meek reply helped fester his delusions?). Scara, on the other hand, is only aware of your presence since you’re his favourite cam model that he recently found. (Since he’s a harbinger he’s probs loaded) Weeks of funnelling money towards you cause him to feel this unwarranted possessiveness, believing that since he’s been providing so much in your “relationship” that it’s time you reward him in turn. However, despite the unbridled interest they have toward you neither are aware of each other’s feelings for you— that is, until you happen to run into the both of them heading to your class. While both are known for maintaining their stoic masks, they’re friends for a reason— and instantly can tell the attraction their roommates have towards their own “lover”. After kazuha finds your onlyfans he’s certain that you’ve been coerced and wants to save you, while scara thinks it’s time that he’s stopped letting other plebeians look at his possession—so, despite their initial reservations, come together to form the ideal plan. When you find yourself waking up groggy in a room you don’t recognize, all they can do is look on with glee whilst planning their next course of action with their new belonging. They’re friends after all, and good friends share though, don’t they?
This is v long srry lol you can ignore this ofc!!
AAAH, ANON!! YES!!! <3 I couldn’t resist writing more on this concept. orz They make for such a terrifying pair when they work together!
(cw: yandere, stalking, nsfw, implied kidnapping/drugging, unhealthy behaviors/relationship, delusional thoughts, savior complex, implied violence)
What if Kazuha and Scara were just acquainted with one another and actually became closer through their mutual obsession with you? Yes, they’re roommates and ought to get along because they’re living together but they haven’t exactly clicked yet. They talk every now and then and know little things about each other. Nothing too special. They don’t really hang out outside of their dorm either, what with their class schedules being vastly different. And Kazuha’s always out of the dorm doing who-knows-what. Most of his time is spent at a café, where he’ll write and read and stare at you while you work. On the other hand, Scara prefers to stay inside if he doesn’t have a good reason to go out. He likes his alone time. Although he has enjoyed going to the library every now and then to study.
So maybe they need to find some common ground. Maybe they need a push in the right direction before they get closer.
Kazuha likes to stare. Talking to you is great, but he worries he’ll say too much and then he’ll be a nuisance, or you might not want to talk to him at all since you’re working. But you always regard him with a warm smile, happy to scribble his name on the plastic cup because you remember him. Because you recognize his familiar face and soft, gentle eyes. He’s the one who saved you from that rude customer, after all, and he’s a polite regular. Why wouldn’t you know him? You might look like you can handle those types of situations, but what Kazuha saw that day was something entirely different. You were nervous—so soft-spoken and scared. He absolutely has to protect you from those kinds of people now, doesn’t he?
And he does exactly that. He’s your second pair of eyes—your valiant knight in shining armor—who sees and hears all. Sometimes he goes to the café with the intention to simply watch over you and make sure no one’s bothering you. He can recall one time when a customer was speaking rudely about you because her drink hadn’t been prepared in a ‘timely manner.’ In reality it’s impossible to make a drink within a few seconds, especially when you’re already preoccupied with making another customer’s drink. She must’ve woken up on the wrong side of the bed, or maybe she’s just a hateful person in general. You didn’t deserve to be on the receiving end of such fiery insults, though.
Her eyes just can’t see your perfection and therefore she does not deserve to see out of them.
Kazuha’s willing to wrestle with all of this darkness if it means you’ll stay safe, oblivious, and pure. You’re like a defenseless kitten, unable to protect yourself from the scary world. He writes about you a lot in his journal; you’re his muse—someone who constantly shows up in poems and short paragraphs where he tries to describe what your dream date might be or what type of wedding you’d prefer. Things get darker the deeper you delve into his writings, where you’ll find entries in great detail. Kazuha writes a lot and he doesn’t even mean to. He just has to get all of his thoughts on paper before they abandon him and he’s left with emptiness.
Everything you do is pure; you’re almost an equivalent to a holy being. Your smell is pure. Your body is pure. Your actions are pure. Your smile is pure. Even when you’re on the verge of crying from harsh customers or when you’re turning down a confession, you’re still pure. And Kazuha likes that about you because it’s special. There aren’t many people in his life who are completely pure. He’s been through a lot of rough things and has seen firsthand how impure people can be. It’s only fair that he gets a chance to protect purity itself.
He might have some impurities, but that doesn’t deter him from watching over you. As gentle and unassuming as he is, there are times when even he loses his composure. Not many are privy to these dark emotions of his. His smiles are sharp and venomous and his eyes fill with a gloom so dark it can swallow you whole. You’ll never see this side of him; he won’t allow it. Instead you’re treated to his sweet, calm side, where he feigns perfection in hopes of catching your interest.
As for Scara… He doesn’t really care about Kazuha in the beginning. He’s just someone he has to live with. It’s not a big deal and as long as he doesn’t try to make lots of pointless conversation everything will be okay. He prefers the peace and quiet, considering he’s acquainted with people who are far from peaceful and quiet. Scara’s relieved that Kazuha leaves the dorm so often because it gives him an opportunity to watch his favorite cam star’s most recent video. He’s your most loyal follower—someone who’s paid lots of money just to have access to the highest tier of rewards and such. He even got a private video where you addressed him and moaned out his name with lustful thoughts of him. Having lots of money comes in handy.
When he finds out that you go to the same school as him, he’s a little shocked. He didn’t expect you to be so close. You’re practically within touching distance. If only he knew your schedule. If only you were in one of his classes. It’s really annoying that he only knows your online presence and not who you might be in your personal life. The last thing he’s going to do is consult Childe, that popular athlete who knows literally everyone in the school for whatever reason. Surely he knows you. But he’ll die before he ever asks Childe for a favor.
Scara loves you out of every other cam model because you’re different. You’re not just trying to get fast cash. You’re genuine. You listen to your subscribers and their feedback. You do your best to improve and do even better streams than the previous ones. All of your hard work is overlooked by the other fools who watch your streams, but it isn’t overlooked by him. Scara appreciates your attention to detail and the way you’re able to hook him with your breathless voice alone. You’re very skilled at what you do, so it’s only fair you get paid for it.
But buying your services isn’t enough. It’s not a real relationship, but it certainly feels like it when he buys preferential treatment. Private shows, special requests, odd favors—you do it all because he pays for it. But this relationship isn’t going to be one-sided forever. You’ll have to pay him back in full eventually. Scara likes to think he has patience and that waiting is fine. It gives him more time to plan his next move—to figure out what he should do to finally have you all to himself. So that those private shows he watches through a screen can finally be real.
Scara finds the journal sitting innocently on Kazuha’s bed, its maroon cover and maple leaves pulling at his curiosity. He might not know everything about Kazuha, but he’d recognize this journal anywhere. His roommate almost always has it on his person. Scara wouldn’t be surprised if he slept with it. To say he’s curious would be absolutely correct. He can only wonder what Kazuha writes in that thing. Perhaps it’s just notes for a class. That’s what anyone would think, right?
Scara opens it and flips through the first few pages. They’re normal for the most part. Just a bunch of haikus and other useless scribbles. When he skips over some pages, he starts to find things that are far more interesting than poetry and doodles of cats. He finds the majority of the journal is comprised of information. More specifically, there are facts and other knowledge about you—the cam model he’s been obsessed with ever since he stumbled upon your onlyfans. He reads through as much of the journal as he can and instantly learns so much: your address, your roommate, your workplace, your friends’ names, names of any potential exes. The list goes on and on.
Scara doesn’t have anything against Kazuha. His first impression of him wasn’t anything groundbreaking. He thought he was a pushover at first. But now that he knows what this journal holds… Well, it sheds an entirely new light on his roommate.
Just days before Scara took a peek inside his journal, Kazuha discovers your secret online life. He snoops through Scara’s laptop when he steps out, having left it open and unlocked. He’s just trying to find what could have caught Scara’s interest, as he’s almost always glued to his laptop on specific days at specific times, with his headphones on and his gaze unyielding. He doesn’t intend to find the file of one of your private videos—something that was meant only for Scara’s eyes.
He clicks on the video out of interest. He’s not sure what he was expecting to see, but it definitely wasn’t this. Kazuha sits there and stares at the sight before him. You’re dressed in skimpy lingerie and you’re muttering the dirtiest things while coating your fingers in lube. And your hands are stroking a thick toy and you’re addressing Scara and you’re lining it up to your hole and— He shuts the laptop before it can get even more explicit than it already is. He’s so conflicted, fraught with a betrayal so strong it weighs his heart down.
Why would he have this sort of video on his laptop? Did you give it to him? Did he make you do this? Are you in danger? Are you still pure?
Kazuha can’t kill on campus. It’s way too risky and he’d be one of the first suspects if Scara’s body is found. Besides, it’s not like he has the full story. He doesn’t know whether or not Scara’s done something that’s worthy of death. You could just be in a tight spot. He knows how easily you give in when you’re under pressure. Maybe you’re just doing this because you feel like it’s the only thing you can do. Not to worry; Kazuha will save you before Scara can ruin your purity with his twisted fantasies.
They confront each other when the time feels right. Kazuha struggles to keep a smile plastered to his face for the sake of politeness, while Scara holds in his raging temper so that he can bear some semblance of cooperation. Neither of them is happy to hear that the other went through their stuff, but they force themselves to make up because a more pressing issue is at hand: their connection to you.
Kazuha says he’s your secret admirer. Scara says he’s in a relationship with you. There’s no way you’d ever date someone like Scara—Kazuha knows this for a fact. Yet he falters at the confidence in Scara’s tone. That can’t be the truth, right? Despite this, Kazuha still strikes up an offer: If they work together to get what they both want, they’ll be unstoppable. With Scara’s riches and his influence and Kazuha’s charisma and clever thinking, they can easily get their hands on you. Of course this means they’ll have to share, but it’s not a big deal when they’re already in so deep. They both know the other’s secret; now they’re swearing to keep it in the pursuit of having you all to themselves. And luckily Scara agrees to the deal, but that doesn’t give Kazuha a reason to lower his guard.
However despite how well they work together when it comes to planning the kidnapping and actually executing it, they both have their own reasons for wanting you. Scara wishes to make his relationship with you a reality—to toss aside the screen that once held him back and finally do all of the things he could only do in his dreams. Kazuha seeks to protect your fragile heart, lest you crumble under Scara’s intense way of doing things and cling to him for salvation. You can’t do those sorts of things with Scara; he won’t allow it. Your purity is meant for him and no one else.
But sharing is caring and some have to learn that the hard way. It definitely brings Kazuha and Scara closer together, even if neither of them will admit it. If they look past their desires, they can be friends. And soon enough they’ll have to accept this new friendship if they want to avoid any unnecessary complications.
However there are times when they’ll cooperate in order to do things with you. They’re a packaged deal you can’t get rid of.
summary:  Bucky thinks you’re the sweetest thing to grace this earth, and he’ll do the unspeakable to get what he wants
~
You heaved another sigh as you made your way up the steps to the police station. It was warm out, a soft breeze ruffling the bottom of your dress. The sun beat down on your face, making you squint, the heat only adding to your annoyance. You didn’t even know why you got annoyed anymore. It wasn’t as if this was exactly new for you.
“Y/N!”
You threw the woman behind the counter a small strained smile, shoulders sagging as you approached her.
“Hi, Jane,” you sadly said. “I’m here for my sister.”
There was a spark of recognition in her eyes, nodding while returning your strained smile.
“Of course.”
You crossed your arms over your chest, turning away as she disappeared into the back. You swallowed, briefly reaching up to rub your forehead and resisted the urge to a sigh again. You couldn’t believe that you had to leave work yet again to come and deal with your sister’s neverending drama.
You turned as soon as you heard a door open, watching a familiar face bring another familiar face into the room, his large frame making her look small. Officer Barnes greeted you with his usual smile while you returned it with a sheepish one. How many times had you watched him carry her through that door? How many times had you felt sheer embarrassment at her behavior?
“Where was she?” you quietly asked.
“Stumbling through the park,” he said with a shrug.
“Thank you,” you breathed, genuinely meaning it. “I can never thank you enough.”
How many times had you thanked him?
“Hey,” your sister slurred, eyes bleary as she struggled in his firm hold, legs trembling. “Don’t talk about me...like I’m not here.”
“Sorry,” you murmured, and she rolled her eyes, head falling back.
You reached for her, but Officer Barnes shook his head.
“Let me help her to your car. It’s the least I can do,” he said.
You started to argue, but decided against it and swallowed your words. You led him outside, the mumblings of your drunk sister reaching your ears. He was gentle as he placed her into the passenger seat, and you frowned at her as she laid her head on the dashboard.
“Really, thank you,” you said, looking to him as soon as he shut the door.
He folded his arms over his chest, leaning against your car as he gazed at you with a look you couldn’t place. He did that a lot.
“I can’t keep letting her off the hook forever, you know,” he told you, making your heart drop.
You knew that. You had known it for a while, probably since the second time. You didn’t know why Officer Barnes, and the station by extension, always let your sister off easy every time she was found drunk somewhere, but you were grateful nonetheless. You couldn’t keep taking advantage of his generosity though.
“How is Officer Wilson?” you asked, changing the subject.
The blue-eyed man smirked at the mention of his roommate and colleague.
“Still as much of a pain in my ass as ever,” he answered, making you chuckle.
“You know, as much as you insult him, I think you’d really miss him if something ever happened to him,” you said with a grin.
Officer Barnes joined you, eventually nodding with a smile of his own.
“You’re probably right. He’s still a pain though,” he agreed, walking with you to your side of the car.
You paused when you placed your hand on the door, swallowing with your eyes to the ground before looking to him again. You really couldn’t appreciate him enough, but like he said, you knew he couldn’t continue to let your sister off of the hook.
“I really hope this will be the last time,” you whispered.
Officer Barnes frowned, dark brows lowering as he heaved a sigh, sounding as tired as you felt.
“Did you ever think…”
He paused, shifting on his feet before continuing.
“Maybe a few days in jail will do her some good. I mean, what kind of lesson can she learn if you keep bailing her out?”
You couldn’t say that you hadn’t considered it, but you sadly shook your head.
“I can’t do that to her. She’s family,” you quietly replied.
He studied you for a bit before nodding, running his eyes over you with a soft hum.
“No, of course not. You’re too sweet for that,” he said.
You blinked, unsure of how to respond to that, so you simply thanked him again and said your goodbyes. He didn’t move as you got in and drove off, his stare piercing your rearview mirror until he was nothing but a speck in the distance.
When you finally arrived home, your sister was barely able to stand at all. You got her as far as the living room before your arms gave out, depositing her onto the couch. After placing a small trash can beside her, you went into the kitchen to make some coffee and put together a little hangover concoction that you’d been using for years.
As she slept off the alcohol, you couldn’t help but to think about Officer Barnes’ words. Not just him admitting that this couldn’t go on forever, something you already knew, but his proposal to let your sister spend a few nights in jail. You had thought about it. That wasn’t a lie, but you didn’t think it’d do any good. It wasn’t that simple. Your sister needed professional help.
You wondered if you could get Officer Barnes or even Officer Wilson to help you out with that. You didn’t think that your sister would react too kindly to an intervention. You suddenly shook your head, telling yourself that you needed to stop relying on them so much. Especially Officer Barnes.
You’d known them both for years, ever since they moved to the city during your 3rd year of college. They’d been mere officers in training then. You remembered even having a slight crush on Officer Wilson, but that had died the minute they found your sister the first time, wandering around the city drunk and belligerent. You had been so embarrassed, telling yourself that no one in their right mind would get mixed up with a family like yours, no matter how small it was.
Officer Barnes was always the one to find her. He never judged her nor did he ever hint that he was even thinking any kind of negative thoughts. He’d always been much nicer than either of you deserved, and you mentally reminded yourself to bake him some cookies. You suspected that his love for your food was the main reason he let your sister off the hook time and time again.
It was hours later, when you were taking the fresh cookies out of the oven, when you heard your sister stir. You turned just as she stumbled into the kitchen, struggling to open her eyes. You grabbed her a cup.
“I made coffee. It’s not as fresh as I would like it to be but…”
You trailed off, handing it to her. Her eyes were wide open now, and she gratefully took it, gulping it down.
“Thank you,” she breathed as soon as she was done.
The silence was awkward, and the smell of fresh cookies wafted through the air. It was an odd picture.
“So,” you started, playing with your fingers. “What was it this time?”
Your sister heaved a sigh, setting her mug down as she leaned against the counter.
“I got fired today.”
Your face fell, shoulders dropping as sympathy tore through you.
“I’m sorry,” you whispered, meaning it.
“Don’t be. It beats sleeping with my decrepit former boss,” she scoffed.
Your eyes widened as you registered the implication behind her words, and your heart clenched. You stepped towards her, reaching out.
“Are you serious? T, we should tell someone. File a lawsuit or something-.”
Her laugh cut you off, and you frowned at her.
“Have you met the guy? He has more money than either of us could ever dream of. It’d be a waste of time,” she sneered.
You shook your head.
“You don’t know that. You’re probably not the only woman he’s done this to. I’m sure with the right lawyer-.”
“This is the real world, Y/N? Where those in power take advantage of the rest of us as they see fit,” she told you, making your frown deepen.
Your bit your lip, not exactly agreeing with her but opting to swallow your words. You watched as she neared the pan of cooling cookies and ran her eyes over them with a light scoff.
“Who is this for? Officer Barnes?” she mockingly wondered, a look of disgust on her face.
“Yes, actually,” you said, ignoring her tone and reaching to get a plate. “Do you want one?”
“You should really stay away from him, you know.”
“Well, that’s kind of hard to do when you keep getting arrested for public intoxication,” you threw back.
You immediately cringed, turning to face her, surprised to find not an offended look on her face, but merely a shocked one. She crossed her arms over her chest, tilting her head at you.
“I’m sorry,” you sighed. “I shouldn’t have said that. It’s just… He’s a nice man, T. A good man. Much more than we deserve. Anyone else would have put you before a judge a long time ago.”
She chuckled, reaching past you to grab a cookie.
“Gee, I wonder why that is.”
Her tone confused you, and she shook her head at you.
“The guy’s a creep. No amount of friendly smiles can hide that,” she tossed over her shoulder as she left the kitchen.
You frowned at her words before shaking your head and sliding the cookies onto a plate.
Tumblr media
A week later, you were thankful that your sister seemed to be doing better. Normally she needed a month to really get herself together to at least try and get back on her feet again, but her uncharacteristic behavior both shocked you and made you proud. However, when your doorbell rang at almost 1 in the morning, you realized that you had spoken too soon.
“Oh my God,” you breathed.
You had swung the door open and come face to face with none other than Officer Barnes and your sister, the latter almost keeled over. She would have been face first into the ground if it wasn’t for the man holding her up.
“Her room is this way,” you told him as soon as you let him in.
She mumbled a few times as he followed your lead, quieting altogether when he placed her on her bed. He made sure that she was on her side, and you heaved a tired sigh as he followed you down the hall.
“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry-.”
“Hey,” he said, grabbing your shoulder and stopping you.
You turned to face him, shaking your head.
“I’m sorry,” you repeated, much quieter this time.
Officer Barnes just stared at you, brows drawn together as he rubbed your shoulder, attempting to calm you down.
“It’s okay-.”
“No, it’s not. I really...I really thought this time would be different. I did.”
“I know you did-.”
“...and there are actual criminals out there who need to be dealt with but instead you’re here dealing with me and my sister again.”
You placed your hands over your face as your voice cracked, and your shoulders trembled as you held in all of the emotions threatening to spill.
“God, all of the cookies in the world can’t make up for what we put you through,” you sighed.
He pulled your hands away from your face, and you looked away from him.
“Hey…”
You wouldn’t meet his eyes, and he let go of one of your hands to place it under your chin. He made you look at him, and his blue eyes searched your face as he smiled at you.
“This is my job. I’m not going out of my way to do anything here, okay? It’s okay.”
You reluctantly nodded before your eyes found the floor again.
“She needs help,” you said, finally admitting it outloud. “Professional help. The 12 steps kind.”
There was a brief silence before the dark-haired man spoke.
“I can help with that, get her into some meetings,” he offered.
“Would you? I...I didn’t want to ask because you do so much for us already, but…”
You crossed your arms over your chest as you looked at him. He rested his hands on his hips, tilting his head at you with a slight frown.
“Now, Y/N… How long have I known you and your sister? I’m always happy to help you two out in any way I can. You know that,” he told you, lips quirking up just a tad.
“More than we deserve,” you murmured
He looked as if he was going to say something else, but you continued before he could.
“Do you want something to drink before you go? I usually make her some coffee,” you offered.
His smile widened as he looked at you, eyes twinkling with something you couldn’t name.
“I’d love to.”
His steps were light as he followed you into the kitchen, and you wondered if his stealth was just part of the job or if he was always that way. He didn’t say much as you moved throughout the kitchen, opting instead to watch you as you turned on the coffee pot.
“I think I have some leftovers from last night,” you told him.
“I’d love some.”
As you made to fix him some food to take with him, you found yourself humming a bit, a habit. So immersed in your tasks, you’d almost forgotten that he was there until he spoke again.
“You’re going to make some man a very happy husband one day.”
You threw him a smile over your shoulder.
“You sound like my dad,” you complained, thinking of the man who you hadn’t seen in years.
“A harmless compliment, I promise. You’re just so sweet...and you can cook better than any chef in the city,” he elaborated.
“Well, we’ll see what the future holds,” was all you said as you handed him a container of food.
You moved to get his coffee for him when he spoke again.
“Any man would be crazy not to snatch you up and beg you to have his children,” he said with a chuckle.
You joined him, shrugging as you handed him a to-go cup full of steaming coffee.
“That would be nice, but I can’t have kids,” you said.
Officer Barnes’ smile fell, eyes widening just a bit as he blinked. If it wasn’t for you, he would’ve dropped his coffee.
“What?” he murmured.
You shrugged again, throwing him a small smile.
“I can’t have kids.”
He looked like he didn’t know what to say, and he frowned, shaking his head.
“I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be,” you told him, placing your hand on his arm. “I’m not bothered by it anymore. I used to be, but… I figured that some people just aren’t meant to have children, and that’s ok.”
You turned away from him, moving to clean up your mess. You could still feel his eyes on you.
“It’s why I work at a nursery. I love it, and sometimes I think to myself that if I had children of my own, I wouldn’t have time for the dozens I see every day.”
You leaned your back against the counter, facing him as you crossed your arms over your chest.
“I like to believe that everything happens for a reason.”
Officer Barnes smirked at you, a light chuckle escaping him, face pinched as if he was thinking hard about what you said, dark hair curling around his ear.
“That’s a nice way of looking at things.”
You shrugged, leading him to the door.
“My sister doesn’t exactly share my sentiments, so it’s nice to hear that you do,” you confessed, opening the door for him. “Thank you again, Officer Barnes.”
He playfully narrowed his eyes at you.
“How many times must I tell you?”
“Sorry, sorry,” you said with a groan. “Bucky. It’s a force of habit.”
“Well, I’m kindly asking you to kick it,” he lightly replied as he stepped outside.
“Drive safe.”
He paused, blinking at you before nodding.
“I will, and I’ll talk to someone about getting your sister into some meetings.”
You waved him off, a slight frown overtaking as you heard your sister retching from down the hall. With a sigh, you closed the door and turned to go tend to her like you always did.
Tumblr media
The weeks that followed were better, the best you’d had in a long time. True to his word, Bucky got information on some meetings, and surprisingly, your sister agreed that she needed more help than you alone could provide. You drove her to, and picked her up, from every one. You’d always felt like the older sister despite the opposite being true, but it was glaring now more than ever.
Her behavior was improving, and you constantly prayed that it would last. You knew that recovery wasn’t always a smooth journey, plenty of people relapsing, but that didn’t seem to be the case for your sister. She had gotten another job, was keeping up with her meetings, and hadn’t even looked at a bottle of alcohol in weeks. She was just her normal cynical self...until she wasn’t.
You tapped your finger on the steering wheel, watching as the last person left the building. You waited a few moments, hoping that she would be the last person, but she never came out. Hurriedly stepping out of your car, you made your way to someone who hadn’t driven off yet. You could tell that you had startled them by knocking on their window, and you apologized the minute they cracked it. You asked them if your sister was still inside, and your heart sank at their answer.
“She never showed up.”
Your lips parted, brows furrowing as you registered their words. Unsure of how to respond, you simply took a step back, allowing them to drive off. It was late in the evening, and the parking lot was now empty, and you felt helpless as you looked around, as if waiting for your sister to appear.
She had never showed up?
You had dropped her off yourself. You had seen her walk into the building with your own eyes. You wondered if something had happened, something to send her over the edge again, and with a heavy heart, you got back into your car and headed home. You waited up most of the night, expecting a call from the police station or even a knock on your door, but your phone never rang and your door was undisturbed. You hadn’t meant to, but before you knew it, you had fallen asleep.
Your notifications were just as empty when you woke up the next morning, and your stomach churned as you sat there alone. You had the most awful feeling in your gut, and despite the fact that this should seem like a normal act for your sister, you couldn’t help but feeling like it wasn’t.
Later that day, you drove to the police station. For someone who swore not to rely on Bucky as much anymore, you were doing a poor job of it. He was happy to see you, and that made you feel even worse. Bucky was always happy to help you, and you constantly felt like you were taking advantage of it.
Your worry must have been written on your face though because his smile soon fell. He walked you outside of the station, and you quietly followed.
“It’s my sister,” you immediately said. “Shes missing.”
He eyed you for a bit, eyes narrowing just a tad as he thought. He folded his arms over his chest.
“Are you sure?”
You knew what he wasn’t saying. Your sister wasn’t exactly the most reliable, and absences weren’t unusual for her. He was right to be skeptical.
“They said she never showed up at her meeting. I dropped her off myself, and even if she wasn’t really going, she’d at least pretend like she was. She wouldn’t want me to worry and...and that’s all I seem to be doing,” you murmured.
Bucky placed his hands on your shoulders, massaging them as he attempted to console you.
“Alright. Have you called her?”
“She doesn’t have a cell phone,” you told him. “She can never keep a job long enough to.”
He nodded at that.
“I know that for adults, they need to be missing for at least 48 hours to be treated as a missing persons case. I know that, but…”
You trailed off, and Bucky understood, nodding.
“Hey?”
Your eyes met his, and he sent you a small smile.
“I’ll do what I can. I’m going to find her, alright?”
You gave a shaky nod. He told you to go home and let him handle everything. And thats what you did. The house felt too quiet, and uncomfortable, you started cleaning and cooking. In the midst of all of that, you called your father to tell him what was going on, but it was in vain. As usual, he didn’t answer his phone, and you found yourself wondering if your family was cursed. Your father was too indifferent, your sister too cynical, and you were too nice.
Despite the fact that you felt like you shouldn’t, you went to work. Was it to distract yourself? Oh definitely, but what else were you supposed to do? You didn’t worry until the 4th day had passed and you’d heard nothing from Bucky. He said that he would handle everything, and you trusted him, but you were tempted to go back to the station. However, a knock came on your door one night before you could.
You knew it was him, and you didn’t hesitate to open the door.
“Well?” you anxiously asked, letting him inside.
Bucky’s face was solemn, and you feared the worst, but he simply shook his head.
“Nothing,” he sadly told you.
Your frown deepened, and you frantically blinked away tears.
“Hey,” he quietly said. ‘Hey, none of that, doll.”
You shook your head, stepping back.
“I just feel like this is my fault. Maybe she wasn’t ready. Maybe I pushed her too soon. Maybe-.”
“...and maybe it was all her and had nothing to do with you,” he said, lips pressed together as he looked at you.
You slowly nodded at what he said, not quite believing it.
“Maybe,” you murmured, turning away. “I feel like I should be out there, doing something.”
You heard Bucky approach you, and he tsk’d.
“No, absolutely not. This city is dangerous, and I can’t look for her properly if I’m worrying about you, now can I?” he said, hands resting on your shoulders.
You turned your head to look at him, taking in his soft expression, his baby blues resting on you. You reluctantly shook your head.
“No, I can’t. So the best thing for you to do is sit tight while I try to find your sister.”
“It’s hard. The house...it’s so quiet now. It’s so obvious that she isn’t here, and I hate it,” you whispered. “I’ve never lived alone.”
He hummed, glancing around.
“I don’t have to leave right away. My shift is over, and I could stick around for as long as you want,” he offered, making your heart soar.
“You would do that? I don’t want you to feel obligated to keep me company.”
He grinned at you.
“Never. You just kick me out whenever you get tired of me,” he told you.
You didn’t kick him out. Bucky slept on your couch that night and the night after that and the night after that. His presence was welcoming, comforting, and you found yourself growing used to it. Having known Bucky for years, it was easy to get into a familiar groove with him. He started occupying your couch more and more, and feeling so bad about inconveniencing him all because you couldn’t handle being alone, you usually cooked him breakfast before he had to go to work.
When he wasn’t at work looking for your sister, he was at home with you. Sometimes he cooked with you, or sometimes he fixed something that had been broken for months. He made missing your sister a little easier. You had faith that he would find her, that he’d bring her through that door, drunk and on the verge of sleep like before.
Still, sometimes, you couldn’t help the dark thoughts that assaulted your mind. What if she never came through that door? What if he never found her? Or worse… What if he did? What if he found her in a ditch somewhere, body maimed and ruined from being dead for so long? Despite how much you tried to remain positive, despite how much you wanted to believe otherwise, what if she was gone?
This was what woke you up out of your sleep one night, on the verge of a panic attack. Your breathing was shallow, eyes unfocused as you fought to calm yourself. You were startled, a shriek leaving you as you felt something brush your arm. Light flooded your room, and your eyes immediately met Bucky’s as he stood beside your bed.
“Didn’t mean to scare you, doll,” he whispered, kneeling beside you. “ I could hear you all the way in the living room.”
“Sorry,” you weakly said, shaking your head. “I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay,” he said, sitting beside you, facing you as he pulled you into his arms.
You hadn’t realized that you were shaking, and Bucky tightened his arms around you.
“What if she’s never coming back? What if she’s dead?” you cried.
“Don’t say that,” he murmured, rocking you. “Don’t think the worst.”
“But-.”
He shushed you, cutting you off, and you couldn’t fight the tears as they spilled over. His hand brushed over your back, and you closed your eyes as he held you, not taking note of what was happening until his lips met yours. Your eyes flew open as confusion filled you.
You struggled to pull away, but Bucky’s hold was firm. His mouth moved over yours, and your eyes were wide as he kissed you. He only pulled away when you struggled to breathe, and you pressed your hands to his chest immediately.
“Bucky what-?”
“It’s alright. Let me make you feel better. Help you forget,” he murmured, leaning in again, but you turned away.
“No!”
You got out of his grip, scooting back against the headboard, looking at him as if he was a stranger. Bucky was frowning at you like you were in the wrong, and your mind was muddled with so many conflicting thoughts.
“What are you doing?” you asked him.
He scoffed at you, narrowing his eyes at you like you had offended him.
“What am I doing? What are you doing? You smile and bat those eyelashes at me-.”
“I-.”
“You invite me into your home. You allow me to stay for as long as I want. You cook me breakfast, hell, we cook together like an old married couple. Are you telling me you intended to just play house forever?”
You were floored, and you flinched as you remembered your sister’s constant words, telling you that you were too nice, too trusting. You stared at Bucky, and you felt like an idiot. More tears sprung forth, and you dug your nails into the palm of your hands.
“Bucky I…”
You looked down, wanting to be as far away from him as possible.
“I’m sorry if I made you think that...that there was more to this, but that was never my intention. I’m really sorry.”
You heard him heave a long sigh, shrinking in on yourself as he moved closer to you.
“No, I’m the one who should be sorry.”
You looked up at him, and he reached out to touch your chin. The blue of his eyes was a tad darker, colder than you’d ever seen them.
“I keep forgetting how sweet you are. Too sweet. It’s my fault really, but let me explain how things will work from now on, just so there’s no confusion…”
Your brows drew together, dread swirling in your chest.
“You treat me nice, you be as sweet to me as you always are, and I’ll do everything in my power to find your sister. You don’t...and it’s classified as a simple runaway case.”
You sharply inhaled, mouth dropping open as you registered his words.
“What-?”
“Is that understood?”
He didn’t give you time to respond, pressing his lips to yours again. Your mind was screaming at you to do something, to fight him, get out and go get help. But what if he was telling the truth? Would he really give up on finding your sister if you didn’t sleep with him? Besides, even if you could get away, who could you go to for help? The police was currently pushing you onto your back, lips tasting every inch of you.
Still, you couldn’t help but to fight against him, and Bucky huffed. He paid your trembling hands no mind as he pushed your t-shirt up, fingers trailing over your skin as he did so. You felt like you were having an out of body experience. You almost felt like you were looking down on yourself as he undressed, and you barely fought him as he did the same to you. Your breathing was shallow, and you were certain that you were going to pass out.
“Bucky,” you breathed, pressing your hands against his shoulders.
He simply lowered himself, attaching his mouth to you, making you forget your train of thought for a second. He was like a man starved, tasting you until he was more than satisfied. You hadn’t had sex many times, the few times you did it was great, but this surpassed all of those times, something you never thought possible.
Your legs trembled around him, toes curling, and you reached down to press your hands against his head, trying and failing to push him away. His fingers dug into your thighs, holding them in place while he had his fill of you. Your chest arched upwards, and one of your hands pressed against the headboard, attempting to ground yourself, but Bucky seemed determined to make your head spin.
“Bucky, stop,” you begged, voice cracking. “Please…”
Your next words were lost, the only thing climbing out of your throat being a moan. You tried your best to swallow it down as you came, but Bucky’s tongue and mouth didn’t rest, lapping up your juices as you clenched around the pink muscle. You were still coming down when he climbed over you, and you opened your mouth to stop him, beg him, but he pushed into you without warning.
A gasp escaped you, a groan of his own leaving Bucky as he immediately began to thrust into you. You placed your hands on his chest, lips trembling as he slid into you over and over again. He kissed you again, taking you by surprise, and you stared up at him in something akin to disbelief.
How did you get here? Bucky was your friend, and somehow, here he was on top of you, forcing pleasure onto you that you never asked for.
“You taste just as sweet as I thought you would,” he murmured, lips grazing the corner of your mouth.
“Bucky,” you quietly begged.
“I always knew you’d be sweet in bed, making the cutest little noises, all soft skin and soft smiles.”
His words confused you, and it occurred to you that this behavior did not come out of nowhere.
“You don’t know how many times I wanted to take you in the back of my cruiser, right there in the station, but you deserved better. You deserved to be kissed like a princess in between your sheets-.”
“Stop,” you begged.
You wanted him to stop talking. You didn’t want to face how unbelievably stupid and trusting you had been. It hurt too much. He pressed his hips against yours again, his thick cock dragging along your slick walls.
“Your sister wasn’t good for you, doll.”
Your eyes widened as they met his, his brows furrowed in concentration, a bead of sweat on his forehead as his hair hung over his face.
“She was nothing but trouble, always bringing nothing but her problems into your life. You were far too nice to do anything about it...so I did,” he told you, not a hint of humor in his blue eyes.
A horrified gasp escaped you, and you continued your struggle. You felt like you’d been punched in the chest, and your vision was completely blurry from your tears now. You were full on sobbing, but Bucky paid it no mind as he intertwined his fingers with yours, holding your hands down above your head. Every thrust was a brush against that little bundle of nerves, and you felt yourself clenching around him.
“Oh, that’s it,” he purred. “Come around my cock.”
“No, no, no,” you cried, bucking against him, but only making it worse for you.
Your second climax crashed over you like a wave, and like you were drowning, you struggled to breathe. Bucky’s lips felt like they were everywhere, and soon after, you felt him twitch inside of you, coating your walls as he came too. You couldn’t breathe, and you felt the walls of your room closing in.
“I’m the only one who knows where your sister is,” he murmured after catching his breath. “I’m the only one who knows if she’s even okay.”
Your chest was heaving, and you kept thinking to yourself that not enough air was getting in. Bucky wiped the sweat from your hairline, running his eyes over your spent frame as he caged you in even further.
“So if you want to see her again, you know what you need to do.”
The world finally caved in on you.
Tumblr media
Even though you couldn’t have kids, it seemed like Bucky was determined to try. Or maybe he just couldn’t get enough of you. Despite the fact that he had a place of his own, he spent all of his free time at your house. His hands never strayed from you, and it seemed like he was kissing you any chance he got. At night, and sometimes in the morning, he enjoyed the feel of you wrapped around him, milking him as he groaned in your ear.
And what could you do but let him? Now knowing the truth, you wondered if you ever knew Bucky at all. How was it possible to hide one’s true self for years? Constantly? You remembered your sister’s last words about him, calling him a creep, and you wondered if he was that good or if you were simply that trusting?
He acted as if you were a normal couple. He cooked with you, ate with you, watched tv with you, and even bathed with you. Bucky brought you flowers and gifts and pretty dresses he thought you’d look good in. Every time, you thanked him with a smile and could do nothing but accept it as he undressed you. Every time you asked about your sister, every time you built up the courage to, he always dodged the question, and you wondered how long this would go on.
As it turns out, not long at all.
He came to the house one day, angry and frantic and his eyes were searching for you. The minute he spotted you, he pounced. He was rougher than he had ever been, pinning you to the wall as he thrust into you, hand fisting your hair while the other pressed his fingers into your thigh. You felt like he was going to break you, but Bucky paid no mind to your tears.
You had made your way to the floor when he finally came inside of you, sweaty and angry and gripping you like he’d lose you. You were trembling in his arms when he lifted his head, and you stared at him like he was going to hurt you some more. You watched as he swallowed, running his eyes over you as he reached up to brush his thumb along your lip.
“Sam and I gotta leave,” he breathed.
You blinked at him, frowning.
“It’s all so sudden, but they found some things, and we have to leave.”
You didn’t know what to say, and you stared at him in confusion.
“...but when it’s safe, I’m coming back for you,” he told you, making your heart sink.
“B-Bucky...my-.”
“You want to see her again, don’t you?”
You nodded, and he nodded with you.
“Okay. Then you’ll wait for me. You don’t tell anybody what you know, and you wait for me. Tell me.”
Scared to say anything else, and scared that you’d never see your sister again, you told him what he wanted to hear.
“I’ll wait for you,” you whispered through trembling lips..
He kissed you, and that was the last time he kissed you for a long time. You didn’t know how many years had passed. 4? 5? 6? You couldn’t keep track and they all blended together. With Bucky gone, you felt more alone than you ever had before. Had your body grown used to his? Grown to crave his even? The man was your rapist. Was that normal?
The house was too painful for you to remain in, so you moved a couple of blocks over. Every day that passed, you wondered how your sister was doing. You wondered where she was. Some days you missed her more than others, and some days you were angry. Why couldn’t she have told you outright what Bucky was like. Surely, she must have known, known better than you.
Some days you were angry at Bucky, and on more than one occasion, you had even been tempted to tell someone what you knew. You hated him for what he did to you, what he’d done to your sister, putting you both through torment. Most days though, you were just angry with yourself. You felt like you deserved some blame in all of this, for being so naive, so trusting, for having faith in everyone until they proved otherwise.
Work only distracted you for a short time, and the lonely nights came quicker than you liked. Provided that you were able to find sleep, it was normally after a crying fit. It all felt like a strange sort of limbo, and you wondered how long you were meant to endure it. You started to think that Bucky would never come back, you’d never see your sister again, and once again, you’d be an idiot for believing him. But what other choice did you have?
It was one early morning, the sun still yet to rise, when there was a knock on your door. You were riddled with sleep and practically stumbling to the door, but when you opened it, all of your fatigue was gone. Your wide eyes met familiar blue ones, and you felt like the air was sucked out of you.
His hair was shorter, but he otherwise looked the same. He was dressed darkly, as bulky as ever, and you took a step back when he took a step forward. An unfamiliar car was behind him, and you squinted, recognizing Officer Wilson in the passenger seat. Your eyes fell to Bucky again, and the corner of his mouth lifted into a smirk.
“Hi, doll.”
LIKE A BIG SISTER SHOULD — WHEEZIE CAMERON
in which wheezie cameron finds that blood doesn’t make you family, love and affection does.
taglist | masterlist | 2.5k words | @pogueslandia ,
warning(s): food, she/her pronouns, ward slander, a little sarah slander but that’d include reading between the lines. why’d this make me want to make a series of reader and Wheezie being best friends.
Tumblr media
There's always been a heavy feeling of loneliness that rested upon the youngest cameron's shoulders, weighing her down as it seemed to pile over the years. Her siblings were always older, an age gap between them that even if it was shortened by a few years, their worlds would still be two different things. All three of them were in three different stages of life yet somehow it felt like Wheezie wasn't even there at times.
Throughout the entirety of her schooling career so far, everything had somehow been about Rafe and Sarah. Sarah was the perfect one; the paragon who could do no wrong. Even if Sarah tried to disobey, it'd be turned around to be made out as a minute mistake. She'd probably be able to get away with it a second time if she did it a different way. Maybe the same way.
Rafe was quite the opposite. The bastard child who needed a plentiful amount of attention in hopes he can be more like the paragon. With all this attention, his head only grew. It never gave him the space for growth. It minimized the space to stay exactly where he was for years on end.
This left Wheezie to be the ostracized sibling. She wasn't a social butterfly or a poster child like Sarah and she definitely wasn't a loner or the 'damaged goods' child like Rafe. She was just... average. With average grades and an average personality. Just average old Wheezie. She told herself this consistently, watching her father balance his attention between making sure Rafe stayed between the lines he'd drawn for him in a radius such as a dart board and allowing Sarah step out of them, even erasing some of the lines so she could walk on by them without a second thought.
But Wheezie was stuck in that tiny little circle in the middle, the bullseye as if scared to move out of those lines. The one place that was the hardest to pinpoint specifically by her father. But there was one thing Ward Cameron always said correct about his younger daughter. That he wouldn't be able to pin point his little dart of control into the middle of the board because she was misunderstood and misunderstood she was.
Though one person had been able to pick up on every single one of Wheezie's emotions.
Y/n Y/L/N was a pogue who had done tutoring on the side for a little extra money and when John B had recommended Y/n for help with Wheezie's homework, Ward was quick to say okay. He hardly even asked a thing about Y/n, just telling her to help Wheezie pass eighth grade and that was all. It was made very apparent to Y/n that was Wheezie was not as much of a priority to Ward as other things were.
Their first tutoring session, Wheezie was awfully dismissive. She didn't care for any of Y/n's efforts as they sat within the comfort of Wheezie's bedroom. She just wanted the entire hour to be over with the second she'd entered her room but Y/n was insistent, knowing that by the end of the school year she would have something instilled in Wheezie's brain. She just didn't know what that something was yet.
The second time they met, Y/n was more passive aggressive in hopes of breaking down the brick walls Wheezie had stored between her and everyone else in hopes of not disappointing them like the way she thought she'd disappointed her father. Y/n sat her down in her desk chair, swiveling her chair to her as she rested her hands on the younger girls shoulders. "You are going to have a really awkward couple of weeks if you and i don't become friends so no work today. We're playing 20 questions."
That night, Y/n learned a lot about Wheezie Cameron that she never thought she'd learned. Wheezie hated the color purple, she just painted her room that color because Sarah liked that color. Wheezie loved to paint and to draw, it was her favorite activity, she just rarely showed it bevause she hadn't believed in herself. Though, when she showed Y/n the canvas' that were shoved at the back of the closet, Y/n marveled at them. But Y/n's favorite fact, and the same one that almost made her hug Wheezie on the spot, was that she was never taught to swim and Y/n made her a promise that she would teach her.
As the weeks went by, Wheezie waiting anticipatingly for Y/n's beaten down, green ford bronco to pull up on the driveway and she'd leave the house with a giant smile on her face. It’d be early in the morning, a little less than an hour until school started, just like how Wheezie liked. She'd jump in the driver seat, embracing the smell of vanilla from the scented item hanging from the rear view mirror. She’d toss her bag to the back as Y/n would ruffle her hair, just like she had every morning. "And beloved was set in... late 1856!" Wheezie answered excitedly as Y/n drove down the final street towards her school after the two had gotten breakfast together.
"Perfect! You're gonna do so good on your test, Wheeze, I promise." Y/n told her ecstatically as she pulled into a parking space. Just before Wheezie could get out, Y/n held her upper arm just to gain her attention before she got out. "Tell Rose she doesn't have to get you after school. I'll leave school early and you and I are having a girls day. No studying, just me, you and a shit ton of sweets."
Wheezie smiled, she could feel the muscles in her jaw begin to hurt from how wide she had. She tilted her head to the side out of curiosity, eyeing the look of excitement on Y/n's face. "But why?"
Y/n shrugged, adjusting in her seat and fixing her rear view mirror. "Cause, you deserve it. I'm so proud of you, Little W." She told her, looking back towards the girl and seeing her smile slightly drop. "You okay?"
Wheezie couldn't remember a time where she was genuinely told that. Yeah, sure, Ward said it a few times but it'd be in a lousy tone before he'd wave her off, saying he was busy with whatever office work he had to attend to. Sarah may have said it a few times but it was rushed before she'd run after her friends with a quick goodbye to Wheeze, leaving her alone in the sand. It was never sincere. Not in the way Y/n had said it.
She rubbed her hands against her jean clad thighs with a sharp breath before nodding. “Yeah. I've just never really been told that before. Like—Like genuinely." She said, lowly, in hopes Y/n would understand and wouldn't push it.
Y/n had known Wheezie long enough to know her tells and avoiding eye contact was one of the biggest ones. So she didn't indulge further in the conversation, brushing it under the rug but knowing she'd have to go diving back in for that little tidbit later on. Instead she wrapped an arm around her shoulders, pulling her into a tight hug from over the console. "I'll tell you i'm proud of you everyday if i have to." Y/n muttered before kissing the top of her head. "Now go, if you're late to first period, your dad will kill me." And Wheezie was able to leave the car with a smile on her face, already looking forward to the day planned later on.
Y/n was overall consistent, it was one thing Wheezie enjoyed knowing that when she made promises she tried to keep them as best as she could. Sometimes things slipped her mind but Wheezie could recognize that Y/n didn't forget a thing when it came to Wheezie. Like she made sure to engrave bits and pieces of her into her mind like a data chart. But it showed she cared and that was enough for Wheezie.
Y/n cared enough that when she entered her car after school, the smell of her favorite cinnabon's filled the car that made her look in the backseat, seeing a picnic basket. There wasn't a chance, right? You could only get them on the mainland. She turned her body swiftly towards the elder girl who sat with a smirk on her face. "You didn't?"
"I did. Second I left fourth period, got on a ferry just for you to have those overly sweet treats." Y/n said, tapping her nose with a 'boop'! "And I almost got stuck on the mainland because of it so you better enjoy the hell out of them."
"I will, I promise." Wheezie said dramatically as Y/n smiled, pulling out of the parking space to head down to the beach. Wheezie had said she didn't have a bathing suit, not prepared for the outing, though Y/n already said she had ransacked her room for clothes for after. Y/n was the only person allowed in Wheezie Cameron's room without Wheezie being there and the elder girl took pride in it.
As Y/n set up their small area for the few hours, she noticed Wheezie standing just where the water and the sand met. She kicked around the water with clear disinterest causing Y/n to huff, hands on her hips, before tossing off her hoodie to get in. The splash she'd made by pushing herself into the water made Wheezie jump, a laugh falling from the two's lips. "Come on." Y/n said, standing and holding her hands out to Wheezie.
"Y/n/n, I can't swim."
"Y/n/n I can't swim, well, obvi, i know that, little W. But, you have your amazing best friend to keep you afloat. I won't let you go, i swear." Y/n said, holding up her pinky.
"Swear?"
"On my life." She reassured with a trusting smile before Wheezie walked further in. When the water had gotten to her above her waist, it'd freaked her out a bit though Y/n talked her through it, coaxing her further in slowly. Wheezie was kept above the water as Y/n held her hands as the buoyancy was used to their advantage. "See, not as bad as you thought?"
Wheezie shook her head though still nervous. "Not as bad, not my thing though."
"Why don't we try actually swimming? I won't force you if you don't want to and we can get back to shore right now but maybe just try?" She asked as Wheezie had to think about it for a moment. She almost felt guilty, remembing just a few months ago when Sarah had asked her if she could teach her but she refused. Though maybe, just maybe, it was because of Y/n being a bit more trust worthy that Wheezie said yes this time.
It took a while, Wheezie was frightened by letting go even as Y/n would say she was okay. Wheezie would tighten her grip on her shoulders before trying again and again until she eventually got it. She finally was able to keep herself above the water without flailing, recognizing that she was okay. Y/n cheered as she watched, not caring for the stares of others around them. "See, dude? You just have to start applying yourself! You did it!"
"I did it!" Wheezie said as Y/n hugged her, the two laughing before Wheezie screamed making Y/n's laughter die fast. "Something touched me!"
"Wheeze, it was seaweed." Y/n said softly before turning and letting her place her hands on her shoulders. "Yeah let's get you out of here before a jellyfish gets you."
Wheezie widened her eyes. "Jellyfish?"
As the sun had began to set and people had packed up their things and left, Y/n and Wheezie stayed. Wheezie was on her fourth doughy treat, even though Y/n told her to slow down two treats ago. Towels were wrapped around each of their shoulders as they watched the pretty colors fade in to one another, a mixture of pink, blue and orange array of colors combining to make a cotton candy sky. Wheezie watched as Y/n got up, accepting a phone call from Ward, the only phone call she hadn't silenced since they'd left the car.
In the time she'd left, Wheezie took advantage of it to recognize how appreciative she was of all that Y/n was doing for her. She came in as a tutor and, to Wheezie, was to stay as a friend. As family. Wheezie was more then ecstatic to have someone who would be there to rant and rave about the other Cameron's, someone she could trust with her secrets and the contents of her always running brain. Someone who was just there.
"Hey, your father would like us back in thirty so we should leave in ten." She said coming back and sitting beside Wheezie as she caught sight of her face, the lack of the smile that was there previously concerning her. "Tell me what's wrong."
"Nothing, really. Just... I really enjoyed today, Y/n. It really lets me know you're not just here for like... like the money or something."
Y/n let out a scoff. "Are you kidding? I enjoy nothing more than watching you freak out over the existence of jellyfish." She joked as Wheezie pushed her to the side with a laugh. Y/n recovered, letting out a content sigh as she tossed an arm over Wheezie's shoulders. "You're stuck with me now, Wheezes. Can't wait to record you falling at your next soccer game."
Wheezie couldn't help the laugh that slipped past her lips, leaning into Y/n's embrace as her head rested against her clavicle. "And I'll be looking for you in the stands, Y/n/n."
Y/n and Wheezie had both found out something about the other that night. Wheezie found that she didn't want to be like Sarah and she was glad she wasn't like Rafe. She was content with her own little circle on the dart board but maybe she could take a bit after her newest role model. And Y/n found that she was able to instill several things into the youngers mind including To Kill a Mockingbird, Inca Civilizations, and that she now had a true and present big sister to look up to.
Tumblr media
GOJO SATORU ‧₊˚✩彡.
☆ Gojo’s insecure about his lack of bodyhair. His lack of facial hair and arm hair worries him. Being babyfaced wasn’t something positive in his eyes- no, he wishes he was physically more masculine.
   Your eyes meet his, the sun rays bathing both of you in an orange filtered light. His mouth is slightly opened, skin flush to the touch. After a night of intimacy, your ready for another round, pushing your palm towards his forehead. “Good morning, Satoru.” you say, voice slightly wavering even in the most private presence, without the formalities and what not, he’s surprisingly normal, and it’s taken you a bit to adjust to that. He’s warm, but it’s the good kind of warm, and it shows on his silly, dopey smile.
    You guess it wasn’t the time for more sex, so you resist your urges, directing the energy to something else.
    Gradually, your palms find themselves on his cheeks, and you pinch them slightly, giving him a look you hope is loving- because you really do mean it. Your rest assured, as the curve to his swollen lips grew even wider. The sounds of bird chirped as your fingers danced across his jawline, finally at your final stop, his chin.
    You tip his chin up, and sure enough, hickeys are adorning his neck. A feeling of joy and honor fills you for a brief second, you were the one that was allowed to see him vulnerable, given the pass into his locked up heart. He finally breaks the silence between the two of you, pushing away your slack hand delicately.
    It’s peculiar, there’s a tremble to his lips, like he’s scared, or about to burst into a fit of tears. You think it should be the other way around, but here you were, arms held close to your chest, looking at him with a mixture of curiosity and anticipation, bated breath preventing you from questioning the sudden change in tone.
    “Hey, um, Y/N, weird ass question, but, am I hairy? Like, wooly mammoth hairy?”
    You can’t tell if it’s sarcasm or not.
    Trying not to make a face, you shrug your shoulders. “Well, I mean, not really. You’re actually pretty nonhairy, in terms of uh... The average-” you pause, realizing how drastically his face fell. “-But I do like non-hairy guys! Who would wanna date a wooly mammoth anyways? Hey, baby..” you coo, giving him a tiny peck on the cheek, fluttering your eyelashes.     “What’s this about? Hey, you know, you can just be straightforward with me, I don’t mind.”
    He doesn’t take a moment of hesitation, exasperatedly blurting out, “Does my lack of.. Hair, bother you?” but it seems he regrets it, your cheeks puffing up, stifling a giggle. Yet, he maintains the bone-chilling eye contact, his eyes are as vivid as ever, so blue it looked like the entrance to heaven. Your immediately lulled, whatever he was going to say was definitely urgent.
    “W-What? Are you being serious?” covering your mouth, your voice is muffled, but his face looks absolutely terrified, and you relish in how funny he looked. It wasn’t everyday that he was genuinely frightened, well, maybe he didn’t show it often.    “Of course not! Why would I be even remotely worried about bodyhair when I have something way more eye-catching in front of me?”
    The shock turns into a sheepish smile, returning for a second time, your heart melting instantly. He takes a long, deep breath, exhaling the tension away, tugging at the covers to go over his chest. You hadn’t realized that he had stolen more than half of the blanket for himself, but you don’t make a fuss about it.
    For all the weight he carried on his sagging shoulders, you’re sure the warmth is appreciated.
NANAMI KENTO ‧₊˚✩彡.
☆ Nanami thinks he’s a boring person, through and through. Outside of work, he doesn’t see why anyone would want him. Some days, he wonders if he should pick up on Gojo’s personality, telling jokes and being sarcastic and what not.
   The fine, white porcelain Nanami had gifted you was beautiful, to say the least. Nanami frequently shone it until it glimmered in the light, wiping any smudge or speck of dirt that dared to get on his beloved tea set that he gifted to you a few months prior. Gold trim, alongside depictions of birds fluttering about, and your favorite flowers. It’s perfect for you, and that’s why he had gotten it. His eyes had instantly brightened, picturing your beaming face as you served the two of you some tea.
   But he wonders, would you be happier if he perhaps gifted you something more up to date in comparison to the porcelain? He had enough money to buy you the world, bags, jewelry, he’d often used to hear stories of his co-workers giving their wives expensive, well, anything, and they’d be over the moon. A sudden realization grew inside of him at the thought of this:
   Was he too out-of-date?
   The thought went rampant in his usually collected mind, twisting and turning at night, only the sound of you, deep in sleep, could calm the troubled man down. As a consequence to his overthinking, he got little to no rest, and if he got little to no rest, his eyebags would turn their ugly, sneering faces in his direction.
     And so, as he’s baking tea cakes to go along with the afternoon tea the two of you would routinely drink, he’s going deep into depth of himself. He’s a good worker, good at...
     What was he good at? Aside from work, he can’t see why he’d be of use. Nanami acknowledges he’s stoic, which may be good in some cases, but often, everyone runs away from him because he appears as scary with those cold, calculating eyes. As opposed to Gojo, everyone enjoyed how lenient of a teacher he was. Well, Nanami isn’t sure on that, maybe aside from Megumi, Nobara, and Yuuji, everyone hated that. Regardless, him and Gojo don’t share something in common.
     Gojo has humor, and he doesn’t.
     So why did you like him?
     Nanami’s subconsciously drumming his long, bony fingers against the counter, eyes studying the ceiling like it’s the last thing he’ll ever do. Steadily, an acrid smell completely overwhelmed your senses- now, you’re hacking into your arm, and finally, Nanami comes back to Earth.
     He blinks a few times, like he’s drinking in his surroundings, before he realizes the tea cakes are completely burning into a crisp.
Now, he’s on heightened alert, yanking open the handle to the oven and fanning out the flames with a random oven mitt he had hastily grabbed for. Beads of sweat are developing on his skin, before finally, you rush in, still hacking up a storm with a large pot of freezing water in your shaking hands.
     Nanami curses himself for ever appearing as informal, but then he remembers he’s infront of his significant other, he didn’t have to put on an act. His face relaxes, and he opens his mouth to speak, to apologize, but he’s paused- by you. You raise your palm up at him, the other hand opening up a window looking over the garden.
      “Nana.” he freezes completely, the affectionate nickname was specially reserved for confrontations like this. You spoke softly, which, for some reason, was significantly worse than you screaming into his ear. Your eyes follow suit, staring at his collar, loosening his tie. He winces, but Nanami’s not sure why he does. You had touched him millions of times, so why was it now that he didn’t accept it?
     “Yes, my love?” he finally breathes out, wrapping a strong, gentle arm around your waist just loosely. You place your thumb just below his lower lip, your index finger rubbing his plush lips all at the same time. The exchange is purely affectionate, yet, he’s still tense.
    “What has gotten into you?” you murmur.
    “I- Nothing, darling, I’ll bake another-”
    “No.” is all you say before you grab him by the chin, unwavering. Usually, those piercing eyes of his are emotionless, something shocking. The eyes are the gateway to the soul, so why is it that it’s blocked off? But you guess it wasn’t the case here, he stared back with the same level of intensity, fear and peculiarity. You stay in that position for a little, savoring just how much you must mean to him, it wasn’t everyday he was vulnerable and let you inside.      Your breathing is heavy, eyelids heavy as well due to his routinely ruckus every night, but you’re determined to erase any trace there was left of that.       You kiss him. It’s sloppy, yet chaste. A fight for dominance usually occurs between the two of you, and almost routinely, Nanami wins, but this time, he lets you do the work.
   Your lips never once trail away from his own. Heavy breathing through nostrils, hands roaming where it shouldn’t at such an early time, but who gave a fuck about the rules? It wasn’t a workplace, and you’d never let it be one. He clings onto your figure, you savor his muscular physique. Not once do his hands not roam, your flesh was his, and his was yours.
    Finally, you pull away, heat rising to your cheeks, tears are beginning to dawn on your glassy eyes. “I’ve listened to you roll around in bed every night, mumbling shit about how you don’t see why I’d want you. You better donate your eyes and brain to charity right now.”
   This wasn’t the reaction, or beatdown he was expecting. He flinches at the vivid image he got of you gouging out his eyeballs. “...Why must I do that?
   “Because, you don’t use them, obviously. If you took a fucking second of your life to look deeper into your personality below the surface level, you’d see how fucking amazing you are and I love you for that.”
   Shaking your head furiously, you shush him up yet again when he finally decides to speak up, tears are beginning to spill down your cheeks. “Shut up, Nana. Shut. Up.” pulling him in for another kiss, your hands grabbing at his shoulder like he was going to let go.
   But he never did.
it's called a starconch
pairing: childe x gn!reader
summary: a seashell shouldn't hold as much meaning as childe lets it. and yet, he can't seem to let go.
note: i think i'm going through my angsty teenage stage as a literal adult.... also this shit long, good luck! also SPOILER WARNING HERE FOR THE LIYUE ARCHON QUEST DONT READ IF YOU HAVENT FINISHED IT!!!!!!!
Childe had always loved the ocean. Coming from a little fishing village on the coast, the Snezhnayan ocean had always felt like home, but that wasn't the ocean he was talking about.
It was so warm here compared to his homeland, the coasts lined with fine golden sand that crumbled under his feet and shells of every color under the sun scattered about. One in particular caught his eye and Childe knelt down slowly to take it in his hand.
"It's called a Starconch!"
He nearly spun around in panic as the voice seemed to echo around him. He hadn't heard that voice in long enough that it almost sounded real, and yet, there was no way that could have been the case.
With a soft sigh, he turned his gaze back out towards the sea. Starconch...
~~~
Liyue was a country of colors. The moment he had first stepped off of the boat and into Liyue Harbor, he had been awed by the way that city seemed to shine. The warm light of a thousand lanterns hanging from every building he could see pushed back the darkness of night, bathing the place and the people in a golden glow.
And in that golden glow, he saw you.
"Welcome to Liyue Sir Tartaglia!" Your smile was warm like the city around you and yet, Childe sensed that it wasn't entirely genuine. "I am [name], a representative on behalf of the Liyue Qixing. It is an honor to have you in our harbor." Ah, that was why. Well, you were smart not to trust the Fatui who had just docked in the city you were meant to protect.
Well, two could play at that game. It took him but a moment to pull his usual grin to his face as he extended a hand. "Quite the warm welcome! Trust me, the honor is all mine."
He didn't miss the way the side of your mouth quirked slightly upwards at that as you regarded him with a somewhat bemused expression before returning the gesture.
"And please, call me Childe."
~~~
"Fancy seeing you here." Childe had been heading out on a request to monitor a Fatui base near the coast and had thought to grab some food for the road before he left when he saw your figure weaving between the various stands set up around Liuili Pavilion.
He wasn't sure how to feel about the way his heart seemed to jump at the sight of you though. It wasn't as though he didn't see you often. His position as a foreign diplomat and your role as a representative of the Qixing made it so that communication between you two was an all-too normal occurrence. Almost every day as luck would have it and yet, he wasn't sure if he would ever get bored of the prospect of running into you.
You turned to face him and Childe couldn't manage to hold back the laugh that erupted out of him. Your cheeks were puffed out like a chipmunk, likely filled with a huge bite of the pastry you were currently cradling protectively in your hands as though you thought he was going to steal it from you.
Your cheeks went red as you threw a hand up in front of your face as you finished your bite before turning a glare back on him. "What..."
"Hungry?" He teased, stepping around you to scan the stand's wares as he pulled his wallet out.
"Shut it..." You muttered, promptly folding the wrapping of your pastry up over the top and slipping it into your pocket. "I thought you were Ganyu... She's always yelling at me not to eat so many sweets but they're just so good..."
Childe chuckled at that, earning him another sideways glare from your direction. "Ah, so is that your weakness then?" He plucked a handful of fruits from the stall as well as a pair of lemon tarts sitting in a small container to the side, offering the money for them to the stand owner as he stowed them in his knapsack.
"What do you need to know about my weaknesses Fatui?" Ah yes, there is was. The thing that had drawn Childe to you in the first place. The city of Liyue was warm and so were the people, but there were times when for you, that warmth rose into a heated blaze. You weren't afraid to challenge him, to dart across the line drawn by diplomacy and come just close enough that he was tempted to chase after you when you retreated.
There was a slight smirk on your face as you waited for his answer. He sighed, shrugging with a soft smile. "I mean, it can't hurt right?"
"You're insufferable." He might have been offended if you actually meant that. Thankfully, that smirk was still there so he had nothing to worry about.
"Say, I'm going out to the coast right now for some inspections. You think you can spare a moment to come with me?" The question was out of his mouth before he could stop it.
"Why me?" You questioned immediately, suspicion evident.
"U-Um... Well it'll be a little suspicious if a Fatui Harbinger just takes off out of nowhere right?" An awful excuse truly. There had been multiple instances already in his short time in Liyue that Childe had just taken off to get done whatever it was that he needed to get done. In fact, it was something of a known fact within the Bank that he enjoyed heading out for smaller tasks every once in a while just to get some combat practice and stretch his muscles. That being said, there was no way you knew that so...
"So you want someone to account for you, is that it?" you remarked, crossing your arms over your chest as you studied him.
"Well..."
"Okay sure."
He shouldn't have let his gaze fly up to meet yours as quickly as he did. He shouldn't have let the jolt of happiness he felt show in his eyes, or allowed his smile to become the slightest bit more real. But he did, and he was sure that you noticed.
"A-Alright then, let's go!"
~~~
"Well, that went well." You clapped your hands together, brushing off any dirt that had accumulated as you made your way down the shore, taking a seat on a small outcropping or rock placed conveniently in the shade of a large tree.
Childe trailed after, taking big, dramatic steps as he tried to keep the ever shifting sand out of his shoes. "Sure did..." He heard your laughter and despite the fake pout he wore, the sound was nothing less than heartwarming.
"Take your shoes off!" you encouraged, kicking your feet up to show that you had already done a much. After a moment of hesitation, he complied, slipping his boats off and tossing them to the side as he took a seat beside you, staring out at the ocean.
Childe would have loved to say that the silence was comfortable. However, the truth of the matter was that he felt strange. The crash of waves onto the shore was nearly drowned out by the pounding of his own heart as though the thing were beating inside of his head instead of his chest. Well, they had been moving for a while, maybe he was just tired. Or dehydrated. His palms were sweaty though, that was new... Likely just the fact that he was wearing his coat. He wasn't built for the warm Liyue climate after all!
"Childe?" Oh no, your hand was on his shoulder. His already deafening heartbeat felt as though it was speeding up further, the heat in his body seeming to concentrate at the point where your hand made contact with him.
Wait. None of this was normal. All of these feelings seemed to be related to you in some way or another. How strange. Was he ... nervous?
"You called?" He didn't recall thinking those words, but they were already out of his mouth, complete in true "Childe" fashion with a teasing tone and smile. Wow, he was even better at faking it than he thought.
"You were completely spaced out... Don't tell me a little inspection is all it takes to tire out a Fatui Harbinger!" It sounded like just another dig at him but Childe was sure that he heard just the slightest bit of concern hidden in your joking words. The realization did not help his current confusion in the slightest.
"Nothing wears me out! You on the other hand, look like you could use a snack. Now, if only someone brought one..." He tossed back before digging into his bag and pulling out the little carton holding the pair of lemon tarts he had purchased earlier that day. He didn't miss the way your eyes lit up before you pointedly glanced away.
"You think you can bribe me into being nicer to you?" you scoffed.
"Whenever did I say anything like that?" Childe popped open the top, holding the tray out to you. After a moment, you hesitantly reached out, plucking one of the little tarts out.
"Thanks..."
Childe smiled as he took the other half of the pair, immediately taking a huge bite out of the side, savoring the way the tartness of the lemon contrasted with the buttery, flaky crust. "Anytime!"
"I have something for you too..." Popping the last of the treat into his mouth, Childe turned to face you only to see that you were holding something out to him. Taking it immediately, he held it up to his face, turning it about in his hands in confusion.
"Is this, a shell?"
When he looked back at you for confirmation, he was somewhat surprised to see a slight blush beginning to spread over the tops of your cheeks.
"It's called a Starconch! They're native to Liyue so I didn't think you'd seen one before." you offered as clarification as Childe continued to inspect the little thing.
"It's pretty. But why for me?"
There was a pause. "It may have reminded me of you..."
There it was again. The panicked rhythm of his heart and the warmth and the confusion. "Oh? This shell did?"
"It... It looked like your eyes. It's kind of pretty..."
Childe's gravestone was going to look so stupid. Here lies Tartaglia, 11th Harbinger in service of the Tsaritsa. Defeated by a seashell and a compliment about his eyes.
"What are you looking at me like that for Fatui?" He was drawn back to his present, sadly still alive self and your blushing face as you awaited his reaction. He attempted to pull a self-satisfied smirk to his face, combing his mind for a response that was just the perfect balance of confident and joking and accepting, and came up empty.
He tried, he tried as hard as he could but he couldn't think of anything. Anything except you that was. Slowly, he set the Starconch down beside him as he turned fully to face you.
"[name]?"
"Yes?" To your credit, you showed no sign of wanting to retreat. He could see the flash of panic in your eyes as he suddenly came closer and yet, you made no move to pull away.
"Do you really think of me as just disgusting Fatui?"
"Huh?" Apparently, that had not been what you were expecting. You blinked twice, evidently confused.
"Is that what you think of me?" he reiterated, not daring to break eye contact in case it gave you a chance to pull away.
"I mean, you are definitely Fatui but I don't think of you as disgusting or anything..." You offered, eyes wide as though you weren't sure what answer he wanted from you.
"And just to be clear, an honorable representative of the Liyue Qixing wouldn't want to be seen with the Fatui right?" There was a slight waver in his tone that he couldn't seem to get rid of it. He hated it. Rather than the usual confidence that oozed from his every word, he sounded unsure. Hesitant even.
It was you who broke eye contact then, glancing down at your hands as you kneaded them nervously in your lap. "Well, they probably shouldn't..." His heart dropped. "But..."
Childe's eyes flew open as you pressed your lips against his, your own eyes squeezed so tightly shut he was sure it hurt. It took a second of coaxing but he found himself slowly leaning into you, hands coming up to wrap around your waist as yours coiled over his shoulders before traveling up into his hair. He felt you smiling into the kiss and the thought spurred him on as he pulled you in until you were all but sitting on his lap.
It wasn't particularly fiery or passionate or anything he believed your first kiss would be like, but there was something else there. It felt like release. When you began to pull away, Childe let out a soft whine, lips following yours as you drifted tantalizingly out of range.
"Relax harbinger." you drawled, glancing up at him with half-lidded eyes, your expression tempting enough that he almost threw himself at you right then and there. "We have all the time in the world. I'm not going anywhere."
~~~
"I think this is turning into an actual problem."
Childe pouted in response to your remark as he continued to organize all of the starconches you had collected into neat little rows on the sand before you. There had to be at least 50 of them, all in different shapes and sizes of every shade blue one could imagine.
This had become your new ritual. Every free evening the two of you had, you would come back to this spot, the location of the first starconch exchange. What had started as a cute little bonding activity though, as with anything with Childe, had quickly become a competition. Now, it was a contest as the two of you continuously tried to one-up each other in finding the most beautiful starconch.
"It's fine! They're pretty right?" He turned towards you, stupid shit-eating grin plastered on his face. "They remind you of my eyes remember?"
You rolled your eyes as you straightened out the harbinger's less-than even rows. "Ah, how I regret saying that..."
"Rude!"
When all of the little shells had been perfectly arranged, the two of you stood back to consider them.
"I call the top right."
"Hey, I wanted that one!"
"Too bad, I was quicker."
Childe pouted again but didn't protest as he bent down to pick up the shell you had chosen and then one that he liked as well. When he reached out to offer it to you however, you reached for his other hand, grabbing the shell he had picked.
"Huh?"
You smiled. "You like this one and you like me, so I get this one. "
"I am ... confused," Childe confessed, though the smile adorning his lips contrasted his words. He reached for your free hand, intertwining his fingers with yours, tugging you away from your little shaded safe-haven and towards the water.
"Hey!" you protested though you let him pull you there, laughing the entire time. "What are you doing, we don't have a change of clothes!"
"Doesn't matter! It's a waste to come to the beach and never touch the water, don't you think?" Childe grinned as he pulled the two of you into the waves just in time for one to crash down, instantly soaking the two of you from waist down.
You gaped in faux shock as you swatted at the man's arm. "Childe!"
He laughed, a free, unrestrained sound unlike the one he was so used to performing in front of others when trying to remain the ever charming and relaxed Fatui diplomat the people of Liyue had to see him as.
Childe. He had told you to call him that. That was what everyone called him after all, and yet, it didn't sound right anymore. Not coming from you.
"Childe?" It was a question this time, as though you had been able to sense that something was amiss with your lover.
"Ajax," he replied.
"What?"
"Ajax, that's my name. My real one anyway."
Your eyes widened as you stared at him in shock, the hand you had resting against his arm slipping slowly down back to your side. "Is... Is it okay for you to tell me that?"
Childe scoffed, running a hand through his hair. Damn, this was more embarrassing than he thought it would be. It was just a name! "It's my name, and I want you to call me it. There shouldn't be a problem with that right?"
You stared at him for a moment longer before leaning in, placing soft lips against his for just a moment. "Alright then, Ajax. Don't regret it."
And then you dunked him, pushing him down the moment the enxt wave crested over you two. When he pulled himself back to the surface, sputtering in shock, there was a dangerous grin on his face.
"Oh, it's on now!"
~~~
"What's happening with that traveller you've been talking to recently?" There was nothing accusatory about your tone and yet, Childe couldn't help but hear is as an accusation.
"Nothing much," he shrugged. "They're looking for someone and the information they've dug up has been pretty useful so far."
"Useful huh..." Well now you were definitely suspicious. Childe felt bad about it, he really did, but there was no way he could involve you in any of this. His loyalty was to the Tsaritsa and he was required to carry out her orders. With your loyalty in line with the Qixing, he had no doubt that you would be at odds with the Fatui's plans in the coming weeks, but there was nothing he could do about that. What you didn't know couldn't hurt you.
If worst came to worst and he was forced to attack Liyue however, he had already made preparations. A quick look at your schedule for the coming weeks had confirmed that you were going to be taking a quick trip to Fontaine for some business you had chosen not to disclose with him. Not that he particularly cared what it was that you were doing, just that you would be gone when everything went south. As long as you weren't hurt, everything would be fine.
"They're a nice kid honestly! I introduced them to Zhongli yesterday and they seem to be getting along quite well!" Childe offered. You quirked an eyebrow at him, recognizing an olive branch when you heard it.
"I mean, Zhongli is a hard man to hate." You took the branch.
"Which reminds me, we're still on for dinner tonight right?" Childe could pat himself on the back for how smooth that conversation shift was. You seemed less impressed though as you rolled your eyes at him.
"I guess if I have to..."
"Hey!" You were laughing again and Childe felt his heart soften. He hated this game of keeping secrets from you, but if it kept you safe, kept you happy and content and laughing, he might be able to play the game for just a bit longer.
~~~
It felt like you were going to crush his ribcage, but Childe wouldn't have it any other way. He was sure that his grip on you was just as strangling as he buried his face in your neck.
Slowly, you pulled yourself away from him, eyes sad even as you mustered a smile to your face. "I'll be back in 3 weeks max okay! That's not that long!"
"Yes it is." Childe didn't mince his words and didn't miss your flinch at his statement. He wanted to badly to grab onto you and not let you take a step closer to that boat. To drag you back to his apartment with him and sit you down there until this was all over. But he couldn't.
You would be safer in Fontaine. You wouldn't be part of anything that happened. And best of all, if this all went fine, you wouldn't ever have to know what he did. He didn't want to lie to you, but he couldn't see a way around it this time.
Instead of voicing as much, he pulled you back in for a final kiss, not caring that there were definitely people watching and gaping at the show he was putting on. You hummed softly but didn't do much to fight him, letting him press himself into you as you gently brushed some stray strands of his way hair out of his face.
He only let go when the ship's captain sounded the horn in impatience, though his half-smile made it clear that he wasn't particularly mad at the young couple's display. You squeezed his hand once more.
"I'll see you soon okay Ajax."
"Be safe [name]." You nodded smiling at him once more before slowly detangling your fingers from his and making your way up the ramp onto the ship.
Childe waved until the ship had completely left the harbor, even when it was clear that there was no way you could still see him. When the shape of the ship had finally faded behind the sea fog, he grudgingly turned to make his way back to the Bank, only to be faced with a nervous looking Fatui recruit who nearly jumped when they made eye contact.
"M-Master Childe! There's some new information you should probably know about."
Childe raised his eyebrows in a silent question and when the recruit nodded, he took a slow breath it. So it was starting.
~~~
"Master Childe!" Ekaterina greeted him the moment he stepped through the doors of Northland Bank. He mustered the strength to give her a quick wave, even as his entire body ached at the slightest movement. The Foul Legacy transformation really was something but he wasn't sure he would ever truly get used to the backlash.
"How are you feeling?"
"Well enough," he lied. After that stunt that Signora and Zhongli had just pulled on him, he wasn't in the best mood at the moment. "What is the situation like?"
Ekaterina paused and Childe narrowed his eyes at the way some strange expression had crept suddenly onto her face. "What happened?"
"Well, you're quite the wanted man... It seems word has gotten out about your involvement in all this, though I'm not quite sure how..." The traveller huh? Well, that much was expected considering how things had gone. If only they hadn't gotten in his way. Of course, he had relished in the battle they had been able to share, but it would most definitely have been cleaner if they hadn't been around.
"That much is expected," he said with a soft laugh. Ekaterina offered him a thin smile, and that was when he knew that something was wrong. "There's something more isn't there?"
"Um... There was something..."
"Well, spit it out then."
"There were a few casualties in the event..."
"Really?" Childe was genuinely shocked by that. "Outside of the Millelith? I thought the adepti would have been able to protect everyone within the city."
"Yes well, most of the people in the city were fine... It's just, there were some just outside of the border..." Ekaterina fumbled with her words, eyes downcast in a way that was starting to worry Childe.
"Like?"
"Well, there was a ship that turned around because of a storm up ahead and ran straight into Osial's torrents," she finally spit it out, eyes flashing with panic when she finally looked back up at him.
"A ship? A ship..." Childe's blood ran cold. "A ship going where?"
"... Fontaine sir."
The next few moments may have been filled with silence to an outsider watching, but Childe's head was filled with a roaring. He heard voices and people and the sound of his blood rushing through his body and the air filling his lungs as he heaved in breath after breath. It was all just noise, there was so much noise.
Childe grabbed onto the counter as his feet collapsed from under him, breath coming in thick inhales as he struggled to gain purchase. No. This, this wasn't happening. There was no way.
"Where is the ship?" he managed to get out between breaths, eyes flashing up to Ekaterina. He wasn't sure if she squeaked in fright or it was just his delirious mind playing tricks on him, but she answered him anyway, hurt registering even in her voice.
"It washed up on shore this morning... There was no sign of anyone who had been on-board..."
This wasn't real. Childe's vision was starting to go dark, black edges creeping slowly inwards as he struggled to sit back up.
"That... That can't be possible. They're here. They probably made it back. They're waiting for me. I have to get to them." He attempted to push himself to his feet but all the strength in his body was gone. The black in his vision was growing and without warning, he found himself slumped against the cold tile of the Northland Bank floor.
"Master Childe!" Ekaterina's worried voice registered somewhere in his brain but the darkness was slowly encroaching.
His fingers attempted to clutch at something, only to find the chilly smoothness of tile beneath him. This was a dream, some fever nightmare brought on my the transformation. It was fine, he would open his eyes and everything would be fine. He could already see you, the little smirk on your face as you teased him for getting so worked up over nothing. Oh, you'd have a good laugh about this one.
And it was with the image of you in his mind that Childe passed out.
~~~
Childe barely remembered the weeks that had followed. He distinctly remembered not going to the funeral, partially because he would be arrested on the spot, but mostly because that would mean accepting it all, and he was not ready for that.
He still wasn't sure he accepted it.
And so, here he was. This wasn't your spot, the little cove with the rock and perfectly placed tree where you were constantly unearthing the most perfect starconches, but it was the Liyue shore, and that was all it took. Childe studied the shell in his hand for a moment, brushing the remaining flecks of sand off slowly as he did.
This was the prettiest one he had seen in a while. There weren't any visible cracks and the color was the richest blue, exactly like the one you had given him so long ago.
Childe considered the conch for a moment longer before sliding it into his pocket and turning away from waves.
"Why? Why won't you move on?"
Childe sighed, shoving his hands into the pockets of his coat as he trudged up the shore. The little shell rubbed against his fingers and even though he knew there was no one there, he spoke out loud.
"It reminds me of you. Everything does."
