why do anti-jason fans always have an opinion on his characterization and how we write him in fanfic as if they've read anything beyond comics where his character is completely assassinated and written by individuals who despise him?

answer me truthfully: would you accept a comic as canon if it was written by someone who hates your favourite character? i'm not a tim fan so i'd mess up his entire storyline if i wrote a comic for him. would you read that and happily accept it as canon? because i assure you that i'd purposely mess his entire character up just because i dislike him. it would be full of bias because i don't understand his character as well as an actual tim fan does. would you still accept this comic as canon?

literally the majority of jason comics are written by people who don't like him and don't even know his source material. why shouldn't we nitpick what we wanna accept as canon??

You Peppers ship a 14 year old with and adult who wants to kill him, at least don't look down at me like you got a moral high ground. And just to not sound hypocritical, of course I ship them too.

Vlad can be the cruel, brawny, tall, big dicked man and Danny has to be the catamite, but an alternative can be great too, a bit divergence damn it,

Metaphorically, you're going to every ice cream parlor in town and having a tantrum because they're not serving cheeseburgers. You're being an ass, anon. This is not how you ingratiate yourself to your fellow fans or shipmates—especially not when you imply that some of us are shipping Vlad and Danny the """"wrong"""" way and your way is somehow better or more interesting.

How about the next time you feel like sending someone another ask about Big Tall Strong Danny wrecking Vlad's anus with his 16-inch monster cock, you instead pick up a pencil and learn to draw art and write fic of the things that you want to see? Because that's what the rest of us did.

Zoro demanding that Luffy not allow Usopp back on the ship seems to be a much more divisive topic than I originally thought. Looking at yknow, so many different sides, I think I understand how his words can feel cruel when you take into account how much Usopp grew in Enies Lobby and how much he pushed himself to the very limit trying to make things right. but then of course I have my own take away and. honestly this next bit might sound even crueler towards Usopp at first. I just don’t think that this was about Usopp at all. Or at least not in Zoro’s eyes.

His focus was on the way Luffy still needed to grow as a reliable Captain than on what Usopp needed to do as a crew mate. Luffy needed to reinforce his authority before moving on. He was formally challenged, and in Zoro’s eyes this couldn’t go unaddressed and untalked about- and let me pause here to reiterate that even though I’m arguing in this moment he was disregarding Usopp’s personal growth (as many ppl criticize him for) it’s not because he respects him less than Luffy or god forbid loves him less than Luffy- because as much as the Strawhats tend to disregard traditional rules of authority on their ship, Luffy is their Captain. And that means he’s holding their dreams in his hands. Someone challenging his authority is big, even if Luffy doesn’t want it to be, because how could he expect the Strawhats to continue to rely on him for leadership? When he’s willing to bury the hatchet without him and Usopp having even spoken to each other properly without a mask in between them.

“We’re not kids playing pirates” isn’t Zoro trying to say ‘Usopp’s actions towards Luffy were childish’ like many people think, it’s ‘you need to resolve this issue like an adult’. And though everyone’s allowed to read this moment differently, I really hope the ones who read it the same way I do don’t still think Zoro was in the wrong for asking Luffy to stand his ground properly.

The best cowriter and friend @bluedalahorse commissioned these absolutely perfect portraits from @loren91 of the Young Royals characters in our Heart and Homeland regency AU for Christmas. I love them so much!

They are!!! So good!!! Simon looks so handsome, and he has a purple waistcoat! August has a smirk and high cravat that looks like his turtleneck! Sara and Felice look so pretty, and the details on their dresses are perfect. And Wilhelm is wearing the Swedish flag colors and looks so determined, which if you've read the most recent chapter of our fic you'll know is absolutely correct for him.

I will definitely be posting these again once we have new chapters ready, but I couldn't resist posting them now because it's such a perfect Christmas gift!

Thinking about the whole "The sins of the father are the sins of the child" thing SoJ pushes so hard as to why Nahyuta was kicked out of the royal family. Nahyuta is terrified at the idea of the same stigma falling onto Rayfa, that he would be at the beck and call of Ga'ran. Not only does it show how much he wants to protect his sister, but also how difficult it must've been for him growing up and how it has to have affected him when he decided to return to the kingdom.

It made Nahyuta work so hard to regain his people's trust by turning himself into a truly model citizen with his religious and law work. He gets treated with the respect and love a prince deserves by everyone in Khura'in, even if no one ever mentions the disgraced royal status until the last chapter. The amount of pressure he probably had to endure all those years and that Ga'ran then used to her advantage...

But even if the people of Khura'in hated Dhurke so much, I can only imagine them initially giving Nahyuta the cold shoulder because he probably reminded them of Amara every time they saw him. And it was bitter and sad because he was Dhurke's son too, yet to them the queen lived through him.

Can I take a wild swing at your Childhood friends AU?

I've had a few people reach out and ask if they can write stuff about that AU (or just straight up say they're going to take it without asking, haha..) so I'm gonna answer this one publicly as a blanket answer that's basically "yes"!

I don't own the concept of a childhood friends AU and I'm sure I'm not the first person to think about Usopp & Sanji meeting when they were young, so already I don't feel right telling people they can't take inspo from my AU. And also, I'd love to read more people's takes and interpretations on this AU and sanuso in general!

Sometimes I can be precious about my concepts in case I'd like to work them into my own comics/stories but I think this one is fair game! If you take direct inspiration from my work in your fic then I would appreciate credit/a link back, but like I said, I can't really claim ownership over such a broad concept.

Let me know if you publish it though so I can read it!

could you tell me more about why you dislike femskk?

okay disclaimer before i begin: this is not meant to be a dig on every person who enjoys femskk. the biggest reason i don't like it is honestly because it's just not my cup of tea and honestly it really makes no difference to me if other people like it. but beyond that my biggest issues with it are

1. the phenomenon of fans "yuri-ifying" the most popular m/m ship and then using that to prove they like female characters and f/f ships. this is not a bsd-exclusive thing; it happens with stsg too and i don't like femstsg for the same reason. but there's a big difference between actually liking female characters and just genderbending (or even making transfem) the big m/m ship. i literally went to the f/f category in bsd on ao3 the other day looking for fics and about half of them are skk fics instead of fics about like. the actual female characters in bsd. who i was looking for fics of. similarly, there have been some redraw trends going around twitter - specifically the i prefer girls cover redraw - and i have seen. i don't even know how many femskk redraws of that (along with a couple femfyolais and a femrimlaine) but only one redraw with actual female characters from bsd. same with the scene 14 redraw that was going around, and while that one wasn't originally two female characters, i have still seen significantly more femskk (and femsigzai, femsigchuu, femfyolai, etc) than i have ships with even one character who is female in the source material.

and imo this phenomenon is made even worse in the bsd fandom bc so many fans just see bsd as the skk show. so of course they're writing off the actual female characters; they literally don't care about anything besides skk. and obviously i can't do anything to force anyone to care about other characters but like.... bsd has so many other wonderful characters and dynamics (both romantic and platonic) that a good half of the fanbase won't even glance at because they're not skk. i do like skk, but bsd is about so much more than just them. they are, objectively, only one small part of it. like if you only care about skk, then just be outright about it and don't pretend you're "proving" you like female characters and sapphic ships bc you like femskk too

2. of the fans who only like skk and nothing else about bsd, most of them. don't even characterize dazai and chuuya correctly? i think the some of the best skk characterizations i've seen have been from people who actually like other characters and ships too, and some of the worst skk characterization i've seen has come from people who literally don't care about any other ships or characters. this isn't a hard and fast rule obviously but even with 30k skk fics on ao3, i have struggled to find ones that actually feel true to their characters. and the characterization seems to only get worse when it's femskk. if you're just going to turn femdazai and femchuuya into two completely different people, what's the point in it even being skk? why not write k.ousano or h.igugin or even a ship with one canonically female character? if you have to change the core characteristics of both dazai and chuuya... do you even really like them?

3. about femdazai: i actually don't mind the transfem dazai headcanon in general but most fans get her wrong. i made a post about it here but basically so many times i see femdazais that are just. completely unrecognizable as dazai. you can't strip away core aspects of dazai like idk the fact that dazai doesn't show any skin from neck to toe just because you made her a girl. i have seen some femdazai that's good! but i have seen so much that is just fundamentally wrong for dazai's character as a whole. mostly on twitter.

4. about femchuuya: i really truly just don't get femchuuya. i THINK the hype here is probably bc lesbians seem to get attached to chuuya (which. valid. i am also a lesbian chuuya fan.) and so they want to draw a chuuya they can be attracted to (i.e. femchuuya) which like. cool whatever i'm not here to judge. but looking at it from a "would this character actually identify as female" perspective, i don't actually think i can picture that for chuuya. maybe it's just because i so strongly hc them as nonbinary? idk. this one is honestly just a neutral "i don't see that but you do you"

tl;dr: from what i've seen, femskk is often mischaracterized, and genderbending the big m/m ships in a fandom is often a way fans "prove" they like the female characters and f/f ships while not actually caring about anything other than their main m/m ship

I kinda hopped into the dc fandom by reading fics (I know I know lmao)

But as I've read more comics and looked into different characterization and analysis I now have a more developed idea as to how I view a lot of the characters and have preferences to how their written. I'm def the type to click out a fic if I find myself thinking 'he would not fucking say that'

Anyway this is just to say it's very funny to me when I go thru some of the fics I bookmarked at the begining of my interest and find myself going Uh Oh! I don't think I can read this anymore!

Cleo dumping Martyn without giving him a chance to explain his side of the story, but hearing him out when he comes to her later

I think something people forget about fanon is that it isn't supposed to be canon.

If a reader of fan works wants only canon material, they should only interact with source material. You can look at adaptations even within one company and they change what canon is all the time. To expect fanfic authors to follow the version of canon that you follow (because we all know that canon even disagrees with itself) is ridiculous.

Beyond that, fanon is created when fanfic authors, or a fandom as a general whole, wants to change something. Maybe it's that they want to explore relationships not in source material or wants to explain behaviors that contradict earlier canon. Maybe it's just that the author, and some readers, don't want to include something personal to them.

Fanfic is meant to be an escape and instead, in many fandoms, authors are being criticized for trying to make work that they are happy with.

Everyone has their own options on characterization and takes their own life experiences and applies that perspective to the character. Let's all just go back to experiencing fan works as something that they chose to make and not something that is owed to you to be entirely compliant with your opinions. If you don't like fanon ideas, don't interact with fan works.
