Have you heard about the nonbinary third party presidential candidate Jasmine Sherman and their indigenous vice presidential candidate partner Tanda Blubear?
I have! Jasmine Sherman is one of the only candidates (for any office, not just president) I've seen that still cares about covid.
Here's one of their tiktoks about their platform for anyone who isn't already familiar!
if you live in the usa and want to stop trump from taking office there's a candidate we can all rally behind that isn't wholeheartedly supporting genocide and is running on a platform of actual leftism and liberation!! IF THE LEFT CAN UNITE TO BACK BIDEN (and people on here scolding and berating people for not voting for him certainly believe we can and should) THEN WE CAN UNITE TO BACK SOMEONE ELSE. VOTE CLAUDIA DE LA CRUZ
Here's my thing. If you have lost all faith in the democratic party and do not want to vote for their candidate, I get it. I really do. But you have to have some kind of plan. Not voting at all isn't going to make any kind of statement to the people in power. It's not an effective boycott because it's not disrupting anything. It's not making your voice heard, like voting uncommitted was in the primary.
Do you live in a blue state? Great! Which 3rd party candidate are you organizing for? Jill Stein? Cornell West? Claudia De La Cruz? Pick one and start organizing for them. If you can get at least 5% of the country (which means about 807,000 of your fellow like-minded leftists in blue areas) on board with one specific candidate, that candidate receives a boost in federal campaign funding in the next election cycle. Choose someone who is willing to use their platform in the next 10 years to promote ranked-choice voting on the federal level so that we don't keep having this same discussion every fucking election cycle.
Speaking of which, voting in your local and state elections is key to getting those initiatives on the ballot in the first place! Do your research on local candidates. Go to town hall meetings. Volunteer at a phone bank. Start getting people into positions of power who are willing to fight to get your long-term goals met.
I truly do empathize with people who cannot bring themselves to vote for someone who has been complicit in genocide and feel as though their vote does nothing for democrats anyway. But guys, we have to stop being so short-sighted and defeatist about this. Abstaining completely from the electoral system does nothing to bring attention to the situation in Gaza and the West Bank. If you can't vote for Kamala, figure out who you WILL vote for, and start getting other people on board. Because voting third-party also does nothing if they get 0.3% of the vote nationally. We need to start being smart about using the momentum that leftist politics have gained in the younger population in recent years.
As a leftist it is often frustrating how many leftists are just straight up bad at politics. Like yeah fuck the system the system sucks, but it is the system we have right now and until your revolution materialises, we have to operate within that system to achieve things but so many leftists just insist on really dumb political moves.
The funniest thing about Jayce is that while yes, he's juggling other peoples' interests/loyalties, he's only sort of malleable and mostly kind of uncontrollable. People can tell Jayce something and he will in fact listen to it, absorb the new information, but it's a genuine gamble to guess what he does with that information.
Heimerdinger tells him exactly how to avoid punishment for his trial and Jayce DOESN'T do it. Jayce decides to defend himself and the merit of his work. The Medardas want hextech weapons (for varying reasons), Viktor says no, meanwhile Jayce already has blueprints laminated and framed in his room.
Jayce didn't ask to be a Councilor, but he immediately throws himself into rooting out corruption. When Mel tells him he's gonna need to play ball to stay alive politically, Jayce goes, "Ball is life". Then Jayce manages to amass enough political capital to kick off HEIMERDINGER of all people.
Second to Jinx, Jayce is the character that asserts the most agency in the cast. People really try to pull Jayce in this and that direction, but his character, his morals, just who he really is pushes at any supposed binary others try to place him in. The choices he makes always align with his core, and it inevitably puts others in a position to accept the consequences of bringing up the issue to him in the first place.
“But calling people is scary - what do I even say when I call my representative?”
Welcome. Autistic advice from someone who actually prefers phone calls because I can prepare a script in advance and they’re generally shorter than email chains.
Here’s a good multiuse script:
Source: compiled from the notes and content of this post.
“Good [morning/evening]. I’m calling to leave a comment with my representative strongly opposing [example: the US’s relations with Israel] and I am standing [example: in strong solidarity with Palestine]. I am asking that my representative do the same. [His/Her/Their] action on this issue will impact my voting choices.”
(Bolding for emphasis - it’s important that you contact someone that actually represents you instead of spam calling an office four states away for a politician you didn’t have any say in the election of. It’s also important to mention that this will have an effect on future support eg. voting.)
Okay, so you have a script, but who is going to hear it and will they interrupt or ask you something?
1. You are leaving your message with a staffer. They’re an employee of your representative. They do not deserve to be yelled at or berated, and doing so may get your future calls ignored. Be the deadly calm and doggedly persistent Good Karen.
2. Generally, they will be polite and may ask for your name or place of residence [for example: your zip code]. They may ask you this after your greeting (“Good[morning/evening]”) or after you finish your statement. This is to certify that you’re actually a constituent of your representative. They will not stop taking your calls just because you called more than once (although maybe don’t call repeatedly for an hour straight - that’s spam, not a statistically significant opinion). They have caller ID and can tell it’s the same phone number.
That’s it. This exchange can take less than two minutes. Do it once a week. Once a day. It gets easier. Keep calling. Nothing scares a politician more than numbers, and we know it works.
ranking da love interests on a scale of how unhinged theyd be if their beloved was made tranquil (they would all be maximum unhinged its just a matter of deciding what flavour)
+ this isnt about american politics specifically as we're seeing the same thing over here but people saying they'll vote conservative because for the last 4yrs the economy has been tough like gosh. darn. wonder why that might be. bet it couldn't have anything to do with the veritable conveyor belt of Shitty Shit Happening Internationally for the last few years no certainly it all hinges on whoever whichever nation has sitting in the big chair atm. and im sure it wouldve been tons better if that person represented the side that very clearly says they don't give a flying fuck about keeping people's heads above water.
hello england mutuals I hope we are all voting in our local elections today!! last one before the general! you can check here for details on who/what/where! don't forget photo id!!
Alright, here we go again. I'm sorry that you all want to feel righteous and just but not voting or voting third party is only going to make everything worse. Of course the dems are fucked up politicians too but if you are going to just not vote for anyone bc of the genocide, then you are voting indirectly for that orange fucker to be back in office. And not only is he for the genocide in Palestine, he is for various other types of genocide and other egregious behaviors as we've seen.
I dislike takes that Danse would be just as conservative in modernized aus when it's clearly shown his staunch views of things come from his time in the Brotherhood and his deep-rooted desire to belong to something with a greater purpose.
Not to mention lines that show much more open-mindedness that get overlooked for his harsher sentiments when you first meet him. Like the oppurtunity to be a part of something is why Danse fell so far into Brotherhood dogma and it doesn't negate the offense things he does but I feel like it's just lazy to be like "hmmm he'd def be racist" just so it aligns to his BoS beliefs.
