so the premise of the new kevjean fic (at 10k words rn TRUST i am working on it) is something i posted about before:

jean and neil work under the main family and are ordered to take a hit out on riko a month before ichirou's wedding because the family has no use of him and he's a waste of resources and air. the only problem is, they can't find him. riko is entirely off the radar so jean and neil turn to the person who once knew him best a.k.a my beautiful princess kevin day. angst in the form of kevjean exes to lovers. jeaneil friendship is singlehandedly saving me. andreil as kevjean wingmen and disaster observers while they try to avoid the fact that they are also falling in love. did i mention angst? cuz there is angst

There are few things worse than being invited to stay at his best friends-slash-long term crushes house for some of the off-season. Being in debt for the rest of his life is pretty bad but, is it really worse than spending two weeks in their house? Probably not.

AKA: Kevin Day is a fucked up person- he knows that, he’s accepted it. He doesn’t get why Jean and Jeremy don’t care.

Gotta say, when I dove into writing this fanfic it was primarily a bunch of during- and post-canon headcanons that I had for Jean with the endgoal of Jerejean being established and Jean being in a good/better mental state but. The potential for Kevjean elements is. right there. and Kerejean is becoming so tempting.

Biggest question is whether or not I let myself fall to temptation.

because u said iykyk BUT I DONT KNOW OMG :((( AND I WANNA KNOW TOO!!! (would love to read a scene too hehe)

Well, let's get into it! It's called the "happy" fic not because it's happy but because the title is from the song Happy by Mitski. Kind of boring explanation for that haha... It is an ongoing work I've been posting on ao3!

It's not a direct continuation after TSC but it starts in the fall of the same year. It has a focus on Jean dealing with his trauma, at first through unhealthy coping mechanisms. It's multi POV, though probably 50% Jean. (you also get Jeremy, Cat and one Rhemann POV!!) Also the Jerejean is kind of slow burn but backwards?? if that makes sense??

“I had her. But I didn’t go to her,” Jean said. Vulnerability pinched at his skin. He hated the feeling. It made him sick that the people who had seen him at his lowest, his most exposed and most decrepit, were strangers. At the time he took advantage of that. He could hide the darkest parts of himself from the people who cared if only to spare them the strife. That excuse wasn’t enough to quell his shame anymore. “I had her and Cat, Laila, Jeremy....” And I still did what I did.

“You still have them, Jean.”

“But I didn’t tell them; trust them, and instead I made things worse.”

so. even though it isn't ready and it still needs much work done, i thought i'd release my Jean Moreau playlist in honor of Nora and TSC. i've been working on it for... a while. years. it's part of a bigger WIP post-canon fic universe where Jean faces life, and life at USC, where a lost Moreau sister surfaces, where Jerejean is endgame but hard game, where Ichirou lurks around the corner, where complex Trojans characters have messy lives despite the sun shining on them, and... a lot more. it's not written. i don't know if it ever will. there is also the matter of my bigger AFTG soundtrack project, which this is also a part of. and also a WIP. that is more likely to be achieved, but no promises. the announcement of TSC really has opened the floodgates of these unfinished works that never really left and i'm just letting myself be taken by their waters. i hope this resonates with the francophone part of the fandom and that it entices everyone else to delve into French, Belgian and Québécois music 🖤

ooooooof. what have we learned? that i need to chill when it comes to both titles and first lines because some of these are stupidly LONG. my god. otherwise idk really? i think "do not disturb" and "benefits" have my favourite openers. the openers for both "benefits" AND "kaleidoscope" are motifs that get repeated all throughout the fic, it's fun to realise i've done that twice in a short period of time!!! "celly" in general i think is my fave of all of these fics and i'm very very fond of that line, even if i think it isn't super strong as an opening line. i can't find a pattern for these at all. some are very punchy, some are nothing, some are super exposition heavy... variety, baby!!!!!! lol

Stay (Glee, Sebastian Smythe/Dave Karofsky) - this was my first-ever fanfic, written more than a decade ago, and I still have a lot of love for it!! Would I change things if I wrote it now? Sure! But I'm still damn proud of it.

Thank You for the Flowers (Legends of Tomorrow/The Flash, Barry Allen/Leonard Snart) - my first non-Glee/Smythofsky fic (... but still involving a character played by Grant Gustin lol)! It was my first time participating in a Big Bang, too, and there's lovely accompanying art by @oriley42 :)

We Deserve It (Legendborn, Bree Matthews/Nick Davis/Selwyn Kane) - you know that feeling when the characters won't get out of your head? This fic emerged from one of those times! Also, my first time writing an OT3! I'm very proud of the way I got into the heads of a new set of characters and let myself play with a world that wasn't fully built.

Secrets and Honesty (All for the Game, Neil Josten/Andrew Minyard) - this is my first REAL multi-chapter fic, and it's by FAR my most popular fic to date (seriously, it's an order of magnitude ahead of anything else I've written by pretty much whichever stat you look at). And I love it! Minyard-Josten Rivalry! Top tier Kevin Day friendship! A nice helping of Jerejean on the side, plus some Renison! I wrote EXACTLY what I wanted to read and, as a bonus, other people wanted to read it, too.

To Be Certain We'll Be Tall Again (All for the Game, Kevin Day/Jean Moreau/Jeremy Knox) - this is my longest [posted] fic so far, and, while this list is just in chronological order and while picking favorite fics is like picking favorite children ... if I had to pick just one, it might be this one. I love Kevin Day and I love angst with a happy ending and I turned all of that up to 11 in this one!! AND it helped inspire A Falling Star, the INCREDIBLE series by @knickknacksandallthat <3 So that in and of itself is enough to make this one of my favorites :)

Writing Reflection

This year was a crazy writing year, if I'm being completely honest, and in many different ways. The biggest change for me this year in terms of writing was discovering the JBBingo, along with AUgust, they really both inspired and pushed me to create more writing content and I loved taking a part in both of them.

The goal of this year is to pretty much finish write and share more than I have done this year, so hopefully 250000~ or more words this time around.

Ahoy there everyone! Long time no see.

To put it shortly, I went on a trip that meant I didn't have internet for a full weekend, got sick, then proceeded to be way busier than desired. I'm still finishing up some of the old responses, but I'm at least starting to be able to get things written down again!

Neil is nothing and everything all at once, the entire universe for Andrew, however small of a universe that is. Even Aaron is starting to see it, though the pieces still don't line up.

And Andrew is trying to convince Aaron that he's never jealous? Yeah right. You don't spend your entire life being denied, being hurt, going through foster care with nothing to call your own only to be okay with someone else trying to take the one bright piece of life you call yours.

Or, Aaron is done with Andrew's shit and makes it his job to prove his brother wrong.

The subject of Katelyn and Neil hasn't felt like dangerous territory in a long time, but Aaron feels the bomb countdown already coming to an end before Bee even opens her mouth.

"Well, the two of them are so alike," Bee goes on, oblivious to the tension leaking into the space. Her smile is pleasant, teasing. "It just goes to show how you and Andrew have similar tastes despite being so different."

The world freezes on its axis.

Andrew inhales a little too loudly the same time Aaron chokes on his spit. "W-What?"

If Katelyn had been stealthier, she could've escaped the crowded dance floor without Andrew seeing her.

But of course, she's no Neil.

Or: Katelyn and Andrew spend some unwanted quality time together, and Katelyn sees things for what they are.

Neil finds that even with his mind's best efforts to hang onto the wounds of the past, his opinion of Aaron just isn't what it used to be. He can thank Andrew and Katelyn for a lot of it, but his own observations certainly help.

When he sees Aaron like this, the mix of worry and adoration on his face as he thinks of Katelyn, Neil can't help but feel too exposed himself.

Deep down, Andrew knew he would always reach this crossroads, a time where the thought became too strong to ignore.

Going all the way with Neil. It's not something he can continue to avoid thinking about. When Andrew looks back to the days where he held Neil's hands down, when he never got off with him in the same room, he's forced to acknowledge how much he's allowed.

Not allowed. Welcomed. Wanted.

But that’s not all there is to it, and the desire to make a decision finally makes itself known.

The concept of love is not one Andrew understands.

For a long time, it escaped him. It's always fuzzy, always distorted. He'd given up on it long ago, so why is he still chasing answers?

Whatever the reason, he's content to blame Jean Moreau for a lot of things, Katelyn too.

It has always been a far away thought, dampened by college courses and late night dates with her boyfriend. She lives a stereotypical life, despite everything she's been through with Aaron. Aside from her growing connection with the notoriously troublesome Foxes, nothing much about her life has changed.

Even then, she's learning she's still able to surprise herself. When Katelyn witnesses Neil defending Andrew, her own protective rage rears its head, ready to be explored.

And maybe that's a good thing.

Aaron likes to believe he and Andrew have a lot more practice navigating their conversations now. And he’s right, mostly. But sometimes, challenges arise at the strangest times, and especially when their significant others are concerned.

When his brother gets engaged, Aaron doesn't expect it to send his head spinning as much as it does. Marriage has always felt like a dream, or a nightmare, one he never thought either of them would be able to achieve.

In that moment, Aaron remembers what he's always known, what keeps his head above water. He wants to be with Katelyn forever. That's never been a question. But marriage hadn't been brought up. For so long it was this abstract concept, a fantasy. He'd always reasoned with himself that it would happen, rationally of course it would, but now...

Now Andrew has made the idea a reality, and Aaron has to confront his own wants for his future.

Of course, Neil only wants to talk about him, and the life they spent together.

Or: five times Stuart knew Neil was hiding a nighttime guest, and one time he actually met him.

It has taken a long time for Thea to accept a lot of aspects of their past. Her eyes track the fear in Kevin's eyes, emboldened by how his own resolve wears it away year by year. She'll never take that sight for granted.

It's hard to ignore the weights on both of them, with their lives so eaten up by the Exy world and memories of the Nest, but one thing has always remained consistent.

Thea trusts Kevin Day with her everything, and she'll never hesitate to follow him into battle.

Neil hasn’t had the chance to examine the feeling of fear in a long time. He’s all too familiar with it though; from the nightmares, to the memories of a cold basement floor, he knows the feeling like the back of his hand.

But this fear is new, loaded with ridiculousness and a complete lack of reason. It’s nothing more than pixels on a screen, far away theories that can’t hurt him like his past can.

Maybe that’s why he’s beginning to not mind it as much. It doesn’t hurt that Andrew is also there to hold him through it.

If he remembers Neil at all.

But Neil should know better than anyone that the past always has a way of catching up to him, and this time, he's not as willing to run as he might've initially thought.

Basic Package: Fuck you. A general statement of displeasure and a brief description of the wrongdoing.

Intermediate Package: Fuck you, with passion. Everything in the basic package, but with additional insults. Customizable for an extra fee.

Deluxe Package: Fuck you to hell. Everything from the first two packages, for an extended period of time, and with extra viciousness.

And it looks like Andrew Minyard is the unlucky soul today.

It's always Andrew's goal to stretch Neil's pleasure to its limits, and he's barely begun to scratch the surface.

Andrew licks his lips and tugs on the tail of the beast inside him, righting it so it can point him in the direction of what he's searching for. Neil looks good on top of him, panting and giddy, and it's rare that Andrew doesn't want to flip them over and make Neil fall apart.

Well, he's relaxed today. He wants to listen, he wants orders, he wants to be controlled so long as the control comes from Neil.

To say Andrew has never seen the benefit in the make-believe would be a lie. However, he finds less and less use for it as he grows older. He especially fails to see the benefits of anything from the horror genre; he’s made plenty of his own mistakes, has seen more than enough to terrify him in his life. He doesn’t need to rely on jump scares and idiotic protagonists.

But when he meets Neil, self-proclaimed horror archivist, he finds that maybe he never gave the genre the credit it was due, and he ends up thanking the dull movies eventually…

They lead him to Neil, the realest thing he’s ever known.
