It's hard to talk about the war in Israel.
It's hard because it seems that everyone I know who IS talking about it, is 300% on the side of Palestine and Hamas, and they're sharing articles that make Israel sound like a country of barbarians.
It's hard to talk about because I have a friend who lives in Israel, who's literal job is to study Jewish history and then teach it to others. And she's been updating me (and others on her Tumblr) about her experience during the war. She's been sharing articles and videos and first hand accounts, and it all sounds directly opposite to the propaganda I see everywhere else.
It's hard because it feels like everyone I know doesn't care that it's her job to know the history and the truth. They keep sharing the antisemitic articles and cheering for the downfall of any company that half-mentions support for Israel or doesn't outright support Palestine.
For some reason, people are looking at this war that doesn't effect 90% of them and seeing it in stark black and white. They're raging against a country that has never hurt them, in defense of known terrorists that have never done anything for them.
And it blows my mind that I can't even bring up the idea that I want my friend to be happy and healthy and safe and for her life to go back to some modicum of peace and stability in the country she loves, because too many people will accuse me of supporting genocide and colonization.
Honestly, wtf is happening. It's like watching Donald Trump win the election and wondering how so many people can suddenly be racist, close-minded bigots all over again. How has America (and maybe the world?) been convinced that Israel is nothing at all but an aggressor and Palestine and Hamas are nothing at all but innocent babies in need of defense?
To all the people who claim this IS a black and white issue - honestly fuck you. No war has ever been black and white, and you fucking know it. Your brain's just gone stupid over this war for some reason.
To the civilians in Palestine, you didn't deserve the war brought to your doorstep by the terrorists among you. I wish this war would end yesterday and aid can rush to you and help you heal. You didn't (and don't) deserve to have your friends and family caught in this crossfire.
To the civilians in Israel, you have never deserved the vitriol thrown at you. And you certainly don't deserve to hear the world calling for the eradication of your country and livelihoods, all while erasing the terrible deeds done against you in this war. I wish I could erase antisemitism from the minds of everyone in the world so that you could heal from generations of degradation and mistreatment. You didn't (and don't) deserve to have your friends and family caught in this crossfire.
To anyone calling for the eradication of either nation - fuck you and your bigoted hearts. We're supposed to be spreading love, not hatred. We're supposed to care about each other, not hope missiles wipe imaginary enemies off a map.
What the actual fuck.

“If you say, I'm not anti-Jews, I'm anti-Zionists, who do you think Zionists are?”
Hi, I'm Quinn, and I'm an anti-Zionist Jew.
Zionist Jews have gotten really, really good at making this conflict and this crisis an issue of antisemitism.
That's not what it is.
The way they spin it, if you don't support Israel, if you don't support the right of Jewish people to establish an ethnostate on currently occupied land, you're a Nazi, you're antisemitic, you're blowing dog whistles, you want Jewish people to die. Not true.
This conflict, this crisis is not about religion.
It's about land.
Before Zionism had ever come into the mainstream political sphere, before Israel was ever created, before the Holocaust, before all of it, Jews, Muslims and Christians all lived in Palestine. Palestine was not a Muslim country.
The land is spiritually relevant to almost all major religions.
And up until the proliferation of Zionism, and the establishment of the Israeli state, all major religions with ties to the land were represented in the population of Palestine.
The issue arose after the Holocaust.
There was a mass immigration of Jews from Europe to Palestine, and eventually it became a mainstream political party and political ideology to believe that Jews were owed ownership of the land. It didn't matter what other religions were spiritually connected to the land, the land should be owned by Jewish people.
When Zionists make this about antisemitism, they are forcing you to pick either antisemitism or Islamophobia.
It's inherently violent.
It's an inaccurate portrayal of the conflict, and it's a bastardization of Judaism.
Using Judaism and the atrocities of the Holocaust to justify and inform settler colonial violence is a slap in the face to the entire faith, and a perversion of what Judaism teaches us.

I’ll never forget when someone I considered to be a close friend said I was racist for stating that Palestinian children are brainwashed into hating Jews at very young ages.
And, yknow what, I think it’s time I address that because it’s been making my blood boil for that past few months.
What about Tomorrow’s Pioneers?
What about this puzzle right here?
What about the fact that Hamas uses child soldiers to kill Israelis and Jews?
What about Hamas’s ‘summer camps’?
What about the fact that a large majority of Palestinian adults hold antisemitic values, meaning they are bound to teach those same ideologies to their children?
What about the fact that Hamas openly supports the Nazi Party while also being extremely involved and tyrannical in their civilian’s lives, meaning they very much could have, oh, I don’t know, taught it to their civilians? HELL, KIDS IN PALESTINE AREN’T EVEN TAUGHT ABOUT THE HOLOCAUST IN SCHOOLS.
It’s not ‘racism’, it’s fact. Stop infantilizing Palestinians.
Condemn Hamas while also acknowledging that their civilians hold many of their ideologies. It’s ok to feel bad for the citizens, but it is not ok to purposely stay in the dark because you don’t like the truth.
My entire life, my mother has taught me about my honor. How I should never let anyone besmirch my name, including myself. One time my mom was accused of doing something inappropriate in work when she had not.
My mom was upset because her honor had been violated by lies about her character. And I thought my best friend would know me better than that. She lied about my character and who I am as a person.

The ADL is adding pro-Palestine protests organized by anti-Zionist Jews to their antisemitic incident database. Slandering the global Jewish community while effectively making real antisemitic hate harder to track. Especially when antisemites use support for Palestine as a smokescreen.
This is where we are now.

Note to Society #35
The primary reason behind the common American backing Ukraine instead of Palestine is the United States government’s relationship with the offending nation.
If the US interacted with Israel the way it interacts with Russia, there would have been immediate calls to end this genocide as well as stronger humanitarian aid given to the people of Gaza.
Remember to be weary of propaganda when you’re consuming media related to this crisis. The people of Palestine have been calling for help for decades - Israel is committing genocide. And we are doing nothing.

Hey guys, my uncle is currently in Rafah as a doctor who is helping children. He is in constant fear of being shot, and is a father of 3 (wife is pregnant with his 4th child). While his wife and children are here at home, he is there in Rafah, and as we all know that Rafah is being bombarded, he is in constant fear of being targeted and shot.
I won't ask for any donations for him as it is not my place to do that, but I am asking for donations to Palestine in general.
Just two days ago, he sent us a video of where he was treating an 8-year-old child whose entire family was killed. No one should have to go through this.
Like I said earlier, I am not asking for any donations for him, but I will ask for you all who come across this post to pray for not only my uncle, but also the other brave doctors who have left the comforts of their homes to come and help the Palestinians. Pray for all the Palestinian doctors, pray for all the Palestinians.
Just pray that this genocide ends soon, and pray that my uncle returns home to his wife and children safely. I am praying to God for this to happen, however I would also like it if everyone else could pray for his safe return.
Please donate to Palestine, the doctors in Palestine, and if you cannot, just pray for the people of Palestine.

so this is a thing that's happening:
kremlin's been sending literal russian flags to africa
"“The Russian flag has become a symbol of resistance in West Africa, affiliated with anti-West and anti-French attitudes,” said Kyle Walter, the head of research at Logically, a technology company that tracked an increase of pro-Russian and anti-French narratives related to Niger in the wake of a coup there this summer."
(the full article at nyt -- i know it's a paid subscription so here is the gist)
the russian flag is popular in west african countries as a protest symbol:
"After military rulers in Niger ousted the civilian president in late July, a wave of pro-Russian sentiment spread throughout the capital, coupled with widespread anger against France, Niger’s former colonizer and a longtime security ally. France’s ambassador to Niger left on Wednesday. French troops positioned in the country are set to depart by the end of the year."
and also because they're fashionable:
"“They just look so cool,” Rédouane Halidou, 21, said as he visited a tiny tailor workshop in a residential neighborhood of Niamey one morning. Two freshly sewn polo shirts were displayed on a table, one in Niger’s green, white and orange, another in Russia’s red, white and blue."
Tumblr media
"They also make a catchy political statement. Russia is seen by many young Africans as an anticolonial power, there to help them cast off their colonial past and write a new chapter of national history that has nothing to do with democracy, which many associate with exploitative partnerships with Western countries, corruption and poverty."

When I first saw the pro Capitol propaganda used in The Hunger Games, I thought there was no way people were stupid enough to believe it. Then I saw that people were actively believing the pro Israel propaganda and I realized that I was wrong. There are people that stupid. There are people that even with 100+ days and 25,000+ dead they believe that propaganda.
What’s worse is some of them believe they could never be stupid enough to fall for the Capitol’s propaganda. Or the Empire’s. Or WICKED’s.

Between TF and my other fandoms like BG3 and TES, I keep finding myself making OCs that have some element of "battle hardened hero who is actually good and righteous, but so traumatized by the toll of war that even after the war ends they feel empty/wrecked and can't enjoy the fruits of victory" and I'm not sure if it's bc I gravitate to a certain type of media where such OCs fit in best, or bc I have a specific character archetype I like and gravitate towards media that contains those things.
#squiggposting#possibly a mix of both bc idk if i've gone into detail here but war stories are one of my favorite genre of stories#like for fun fictional reasons but also for real life political and moral and emotional implications#war stories are literally so fucking cool man i feel like they get a bad rap for just being propaganda tools#and obv a lot of them can be/are explicitly made to be but also like#(i feel like i'm stealing a quote from one such story) war stories are also a method for the soldiers of the war to tell their side#and usually the soldier's side of the story tells of the LESS glorious and propagandistic sides#maybe ive just had the pleasure of having really good teachers/professors but like#most of the war stories i've read are specifically ABOUT the bridge bt war propaganda and the actual experience of fighting in a war#and i think even the ones where the soldier in question supports the war (american sniper comes to mind)#it's very interesting and dare i say important to read it and understand when and why and how they came to support war#like idk i think it's one of those things where ppl shy away from war stories bc#'ew gross it's all pro war probably american imperialist propaganda written by oppressive killers trying to make us feel sorry for them'#without understanding... idk. the difference between an individual soldier's evil and the evil of an entire institution?#some sort of anti intellectualism regarding soldiers as being inherently evil ppl who aren't to be listened to or taken seriously?#it's not a matter of like. you don't need to like or sympathize with them per se. but i think part of understanding and criticizing#the institution of war is getting the ground level testimonies about it. and more of them are critical than some ppl believe#plus i mean FUCK usamerican imperialism it doesn't need to be about US wars! other countries lived thru other wars that are also important!#war stories may have their strongest association w american imperialism but that doesn't mean other war stories don't exist#idk sorry for rambling in the tags

On one hand, there's a "the Jedi are the REAL bad guys" YouTube video I want to debunk--just because it was the video that plunged me into that way of thinking when I was younger, and tearing it apart would be kinda cathartic.
...on the other hand, I don't know if my blood pressure or my sanity could survive me listening to someone just spouting bullshit comparisons with no context for 13 minutes and then concluding that they're correct after taking the most bad-faith reading of the Prequels I've ever heard.
Decisions, decisions...
