Curioser and Curioser [Ch. 3] [fic] [Joy of Life]
Curiouser and Curiouser (39828 words) by Wandering_star_light
Chapters: 3/? Fandom: Joy of Life Rating: R-ish Relationships: Fan Xian/Li Chengru, Li Chengze/Xie Bi'an, Fan Ruoruo & Fan Xian, Fan Xian & Yan Bingyun, Fan Xian & Wang Qinian, Li Chengru/Fan Ruoruo Characters: Fan Xian, Li Chengru, Li Chengze, Xie Bi'an, Emperor of Qing, Chen Pingping, Li Chengqian, Fan Ruoruo, Wang Qinian, Yan Bingyun, Shadow Additional Tags: a case study on Fan Xian's pansexuality, a queer revolution in the Kingdom of Qing, Red District novel writing, Poison, Aphrodisiacs, but it's not what you think, Palace Shenanigans, deathly royal dinners, backstabbing, Mindfuck, the Emperor is vicious and mysterious, Li Chenru has DEPTH, everything is not what it seems, Brother-Sister Relationships, No Incest, Hurt/Comfort, Fan Xian is being his genius self, Yan Bingyun is kind of remarkable, Chen Pingping is one of a kind, it's fun and stabby and everyone gets permanently shocked by what's happening, but not really, careful exploration of ménage à trois
Summary: Having mourned the ‘death’ of Fan Xian, none other than the God of Poetry himself, on a truly global scale, the Emperor planned an equally grand celebration of his precious official’s return. Once the news of Fan Xian being alive emerged, it spread like fire on a hot summer day, making everyone sigh with relief.
Hence, it didn’t really come as a surprise when His Highness, beaming with joy and badly hidden mischievousness, announced to everyone that they’d be celebrating Fan Xian’s return for no less than a month. Fan Xian, naturally, would have to attend each and every joyous festivity, be present at all feasts, participate in all the games, and most importantly, stay at the palace for everyone’s (mostly the Emperor’s) entertainment.
The First Prince watches the theatrics unfold in the most unexpected ways, not knowing that he has a very peculiar role to play in the palace's never-ending shenanigans.

bro we are NOT calling wwdits bad queer representation this many seasons in just because they're being kinda annoying about a popular ship that may or may not happen, when we literally have a full main cast of explicitly queer characters who constantly remind us that they're queer in a show that isn't even ABOUT romance. its a hilarious mockumentary about a found family of vampires who also fuck each other sometimes. like that's AWESOME! adding a gay couple would be great but the queerness of the characters and the show doesn't solely depend on their relationships!! Yes Even If They're Bisexual And M/F

I just think it's funny how "Being Different" was used as a metaphor for being queer, and El and Max have both been described in the narrative as "different."

Supernatural keeps burying their gay and he keeps coming back to life for love. Castiel's core motivation being queer love is his strongest interpretation. It's textual. There are some wild writing choices from a show that has such a rocky relationship with queer readings in general and this character in particular.
"The very touch of you corrupts. When Castiel first laid a hand on you in hell, he was lost."
"You must have me confused with the other angel - you know, the one who walks around in the dirty trenchcoat who’s in love with you."
"And then after a rousing speech, his true weakness is revealed. He’s in love…with humanity"
"Ever since we met and ever since I pulled you out of Hell, knowing you has changed me. Because you cared, I cared. I cared about you. I cared about Sam. I cared about Jack. I cared about the whole world because of you. You changed me, Dean... I love you."
To name a few examples.

Thinking bout the time someone yelled at me because they didn't understand butches.
#feeling some kind of way about telling queer stories lately#and what makes something “queer enough”#which. in my opinion is that any story I tell is queer enough because I am a queer person telling stories about queer characters#but there are always going to be people who call that into question if boys arent kissing boys and girls arent kissing girls#in easy uncomplicated ways#looking glasses is meant to be messy#everyone is at turning points in their lives. they're young adults whose identities and relatio ships aren't fully formed yet#but those complications (in my opinion) are what make the story queer#what are dess's pronouns? she/her but only because she hasnt had a chance to think about anything else#when an overbearing mother got her daughter back after they were missing for years#she might have a hard time adjusting to her child maybe not being her “daughter”#which is queerer: two women getting together or breaking up?#i dont think it matters#but I find these in between spaces interesting to explore#and it's my story that I'm doing for free#so even if dess looks too much like a man#i dont owe it to anybody to conform my story to someone else's expectations#(long ramble that probably isnt very coherent)#(i've just been thinking about some of this stuff lately. and this is the funniest response I've ever gotten to the comic)#(like yeah. she is a girl. good job!)#(i dont often get hate on the comic (which I'm glad for) so whenever I do I find the types of hate really fascinating)#(and dont worry. I got this months ago. I've just been thinking about it again recently and laughing)#nickel for my thoughts

basic info: Alex, they/he/ze, over 25
who knows what’s going here tbh - whenever I get too fixated too fast for my main, I’ve got this one.
Username is a FOB reference so probably lots of that and right now I am so down bad for #macdoc I am chewing my enclosure
I’m always full send for Witcher, TAD, FOB, LesMis, Spirk/AOS, and media w lesbians/trans mascs/and butches, and dnd:hat gay ships, and also anything that’s got a good corruption arc love that shit
I will genuinely happily review and hype up anyone’s fic if you tag me and they’re in any fandom im into (unless it’s specific squick, in which case I probably won’t read it but I’ll still share it)
I currently follow back from @godforsakenprospero
Also when in doubt I probably headcannon that character as trans, particularly if they’re masculine in ways I enjoy or envy! (the funny corollary is if I HC a character as transmasc, then I tend to avoid gender swap fics, because my brain keeps processing it as misgendering even tho it’s absolutely not at all and a very fun and valid way to fandom)

Ok I have confusion
(This is a very queer confusion so buckle up)
So. Like. What's the difference between romantic love and platonic love? Normally, I'd be like "sex" but in thinking about it, that's a false dichotomy. People have sex with people they aren't in love with all the time and vice versa; that's a different axis of relationships. I'm not talking about physical expression or sexual desire, I'm talking about love the...emotion? Love the action? Because if you remove the physical axis, what's the difference?
I am genuinely confused. I went to a Jesus school and they were very big on Love is An Action Verb, it's not mushy emotions, it's something you do. We also learned about the different Greek words for types of love like philos (brotherly) eros (sexual) and agape (unconditional). Maybe another kind that's familial idk. Again, learned it at Jesus School, large chance something in there is incorrect.
So if having sex isn't the main definer of romantic love, what's the difference between romantic and platonic? Like the definition of platonic is based around what it is not (romantic or sexual attraction) but those aren't the same thing. Because you can have a romantic relationship without sexual attraction so it seems to hold that you can have a platonic relationship WITH sexual attraction. And some definitions are like "it's only the outward expression of physical desire that makes it romantic vs platonic" which seems incredibly incorrect I'm probably just going to disregard that
I feel like this is something I'm supposed to intrinsically "know" like I'm supposed to innately understand the difference between romantic and platonic bc they just feeeeel different like obviously the love you have for a family member is different from the love you have for a friend which is different from the love you have for a partner but it seems like the only actual differences are desire and physicality, and if you take away that axis (I keep thinking of it as a third dimension, sorry) what's the difference? I care about all of these people, I want them to be happy and healthy and spend time with me, I want to know what they like and don't, what they want out of life, I want them to be able to do what they want and be safe and take care of them, and the intensity with which I feel those things doesn't change the type of love it is (does it???)
Is the answer really just "it FEELS different, you'll just know it" or am I just missing a component here? Or did I accidentally open a can of queer worms?
