In talking about Queen and Freddie Mercury, I was thinking about celebrities. Their impact on our world, culture, and history. Then I thought of the ones whose passing made me cry, whose loss left an impact.
The first one was Freddie Mercury’s. He was a massive talent, a singer of great skill. Almost 30 years later, we still feel his influence.
Second was Robin Williams. He genuinely cared about people. His heart and talent was a rarity.
Third was Chadwick Boseman. He was the one who showed that a man of color could truly be king. He proved to Hollywood that a cast made up mostly of People of Color could break the box office. He will be sorely missed.

Heath Ledger, Robin Williams, Chadwick Boseman, John Belushi (and that was back before I was even born), Betty White (even though it was her time)...and there are more but I can't think of them right now.
My answer is yes for Heath Ledger. I was obsessed with him when he died and it broke my little pre-teen heart 💔

THE UNITED SOVEREIGNS OF AURADON
- Auradon, ruled by High King Adam and High Queen Belle, based on France
Head of USA and home to Auradon Preparatory Academy For Future Rulers, a prestigious boarding school where young royals of all the world attend to.
It has an history of persecution and eradication of magical beings, today its anti-magic laws have spread to other kingdoms after The Union.
- Agrabah, ruled by Sultana Yasmin and Sultan Ala ad-Din, based on Ottoman Empire
A sultanate conformed by what used to be the Seven Deserts, it's now one of the biggest and culturally vast nations of USA.
- Arendelle, ruled by Queen Anna and King Kristoff, based on Norway
Very vocal about their disagreement with the magic ban, even after the former Queen's abdication. Struggling with its position in USA.
- Atlantica, ruled by King Triton
A series of underwater kingdoms inhabited by merfolk, each ruled by the King's daughters. Many criticize its decision of joining USA and it's believed to have been influenced by their alliance with Tirulia.
- Corona, ruled by Queen Rapunzel and King Eugene, based on Germany
The Light Kingdom. Its capital is located on an island, with a bridge that connects it to the rest of the kingdom on the mainland. It has a complex system of tunnels that are no longer in use.
- Charmania, ruled by King Christopher and Queen Ella, based on Canada
One of the most powerful kingdoms in USA due to its close alliance with General Fay Godmother. A kingdom of traditional values, with a regime that has remained intact for centuries. Crown Prince Chadwick is the second in line to rule USA.
- DunBroch, ruled by King Fergus and Queen Elinor, based on Scotland
Previously 4 clans at war with each other that joined together to defend their lands from a Logres invasion.
- Enchancia, ruled by King Rolando II and Queen Miranda, based on Spain
Close allies with Ulstead. Known for their Royal Preparatory Academy, Auradon Prep's competition, with the Three Good Fairies as its headmistresses. It's suspected of teaching magic despite the ban, so far no evidence has been found.
- Jalpur, ruled by Queen Shanti, based on India
Its people are highly respectful of its wildlife, as it's exploitation has been historically punished by Fae. After joing USA, many of its fauna was sent to the Isle of the Lost for being considered dangerous, a decision frown upon by most.
- Logres, ruled by King Arthur and Queen Guinevere, based on England
A kingdom highly dependent on magic before joining USA and therefore still technologically behind.
- Maldonia, ruled by King Naveen and Queen Tiana, based on Maldives
The current royal family took the crown after their independence from Ulstead. The kingdom has a rich and varied gastronomy that the Queen has incorporated into her restaurant in Auradon, making it the most recognizable part of their culture.
- Moors, ruled by Queen Aurora, based on Ireland
Homeland to Fae that became a hostile place for them after Maleficent's defeat, getting claimed as part of South Riding and the following magic ban after The Union.
- Neverland, ruled by Auradon council, based on colonial America
A time-stopping magical place located within a star. USA displaced its inhabitants and took part of its territory to create the Isle of the Lost.
- Nottingham, ruled by King Richard, based on England
A kingdom close to Logres, surrounded by a large forest. Known for the legendary Robin Hood.
- Olympus, ruled by King Zeus and Queen Hera, based on Ancient Greece
Home of the Greek Gods, who reside in its Mount amongst the clouds. King Zeus helped build the Isle barrier and imprison Hades for being considered guilty of letting the souls of villains out of his realm, several gods now struggle to occupy his role as ruler of the Underworld.
- Perceforest, ruled by Queen Leah, based on Low Countries
Auradon closest ally. Put to sleep along its princess after Maleficent cursed her to die when the kingdom allied with the Seelie Court in the Fae war.
- Prydian, ruled by Queen Eilonwy and King Taran, based on Wales
A series of small kingdoms united under the ruling of King Taran after he ended the reign of the Horned King.
- Schwarzwald, ruled by Queen Snow White and King Florian, based on Germany
It's the unification of the King and Queen's kingdoms after their marriage, big part of its territory is a vast black forest, hence its name. It's inhabitated by many magical beings like Dwarves, Elves, Ents, Hobbits, Trolls, and Orcs. Most of its economy relies on its mines.
- Southern Isles, ruled by King Caleb, based on Denmark
It became unstable after the death of the King and the succession of the eldest son to the throne as the rest of the heirs fight for the position. The youngest son, Prince Hans Westergaard, is a prisoner on the Isle of the Lost.
- Tirulia, ruled by King Eric and Queen Ariel, based on Italy
Tourism quickly became their main economic activity after joining USA due to its tropical landscapes and unique sea creatures. Many of its citizens were sent to the Isle of the Lost.
- Ulstead, ruled by King Hubert, based on Portugal
It will unify with Perceforest and the Moors, becoming South Riding, after Crown Princess Aurora and Crown Prince Philip ascent to the throne.
- Umbra, ruled by King Edmund
The Dark Kingdom. It was corrupted by magic and eventually abandoned. Now, with the return of the long-lost prince, it has been slowly getting restored.
- Wei, ruled by Emperor Sui, based on China
The Empire's army represents most of USA's military power alongside Charmania. Took the Huns territory after their defeat. Represented by Ambassador Fa Mulan in Auradon's council.
- Weselton, ruled by King Henryk, based on Poland
Previously a close partner in trade to Arendelle until the Queen cut all ties with the kingdom due to the previous Duke's persecution. Now holds a close alliance with the Southern Isles.
- Wonderland, ruled by White Queen Alice
Nonsensical land that can be accessed by any means that disrupts reality, such as dreams or mirrors. All physical entrances have been magically sealed by Fay Godmother.
Previous ruler, Red Queen of Hearts, has been sentenced to the Isle of the Lost to avoid her magical imbalance from further corrupting the kingdom.
-- Isle of the Lost, ruled by Auradon council
A prison island where villains and criminals are held after returning from the dead and allying to conquer the Auradon kingdoms. Surrounded by a magical barrier that prohibits the entry and exit of all beings and magic, as well as the death of everyone found within it.
NOT PART OF USA
- Andalasia, ruled by King Edward and Queen Nancy
Little has been known about its rulers after their accession to the throne. Declined the offer to join USA, didn't gave an explanation.
- Apheliotia, ruled by Queen Libuše and King Premysl, based on Czechoslovakia
Allied with USA to fight against the villains in The Awaking and create the Isle of the Lost but after the war ended the Queen refused to join them.

I would like to add something! I have recently played through the Chadwick quest, and actually fully watched a playthrough of the Penacony quest. I'm tired rn so this might be a bit lazy, but there are a few more instances of gold text (not red I don't think...):
Watchmaker, during the first time we ever see Aventurine onscreen, is always highlighted in gold. This points to the Watchmaker being an absolutely central figure in Penacony, likely the controller or something similar. If we go with my current theory, they're (are they a they or a he? both were used i think...) unchangeable to the Dreamscape- a constant it doesn't have control over. At least, theoretically...
During the Chadwick quest, multiple questionable things were highlighted, which put the IPC under even more suspicion. I didn't sc all of them cause I was tired and also not at full processing power (i'm never at full processing power lol) but here's what I got:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There was at least one other major instance, I think where they were confirming Chadwick was part of the Genius Society. Interestingly, I don't think we were within the Dreamscape during that period, which raises questions about the theory and to what extent it counts. But let's focus on these screenshots.
First, "asked for my help". This is a constant- no matter what the Dreamscape does, Chadwick has always asked Screwllum for help. This is likely because it happened before Chadwick entered the Dreamscape, and due to the state of his mortal body it's likely the Dreamscape's potential tampering didn't work here. And the second screenshot would just confirm that Chadwick's previous motives were consistent- again, this was before entering the Dreamscape. There's something to be said about Chadwick existing as a piece of memoria, and the Dreamscape being a former mining place (?) for memoria, but I don't know what... it's probably relevant.
Anyway, just a cool little add-on! THank you for reading my rambling once more (:
Gold and Red Text in Penacony
So, for some reason, I have decided to torture myself by creating a theory that will likely have some plot relevance??? but not totally sure. it has popped up a bunch of times and seems to confuse a lot of people, so I'm just putting together what I know! feel free to tell me if I missed something, as I haven't done many of the side quests yet...
Anyway, spoiler warning for 2.0 trailblaze mission and possibly some of the side quests?? idk proceed with caution! I don't read many leaks so I doubt there's spoilers for that but tell me right away if there are any!
Alright, so the first time we see different-colored text in this mission is during Acheron's first meeting with the Trailblazer. According to this twitter thread (credits to user mobnermal, NOT me) Acheron's dialogue will change, depending on the gender of the tb and how we respond to her queries. She also says towards the end of the convo something along the lines of "It feels like multiple different versions of you were talking to me, saying a different thing each time".
So, I'm not entirely sure why she's lying, or even if she's doing it intetionally. It does seem like there's some aspect of "different possibilities within the Dreamscape" happening- almost like the Dreamscape itself is changing the tb's answers/Acheron's questions. But again, we'll get a bit into the dreamscape later.
2. Aventurine's final convo with the tb, and then Black Swan later.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
My screenshots were failing me so hard in this quest lol.
Anyway, as far as I know, these two are the only ones in this mission who use gold text. It's mostly used to highlight the word "truth", and according to the wiki and playthroughs I have watched this dialogue doesn't change- only Acheron's red seems inconsistent. I find it interesting Black Swan put quotations around it, and I have no idea what this could imply. I assume she knows something we and Aventurine don't about Robin's death, which seems to be what they were referring to during this part.
As to how that "upends everything"... I don't know what the implications of her death are. It's implied by the npc who raised Robin (can't find any screenshots- I didn't take any, but it's dialogue from an npc in the Golden Hour) and Sunday and Robin's dialogue in the very beginning- the one where they were "shades"- that Robin's voice may have some special quality that could mind-control/ brainwash people to some extent. This is a bit of a tangent, but may point out why the gold test is so important- the new Harmony trace mats match Robin's design very well, and are part of the Order. The Order's- Ena's- symbol is an eyeball, which can be found in a lot of places on Penacony, but most importantly Sunday's clothes. Judging from what we know of Sunday's control-freak-esque personality (sorry dude ):) it's possible he or someone else in The Family is using Robin's potential powers to brainwash the people of different factions. If you choose the alternate ending, everything wraps up a bit too nicely, and nobody seems to want to leave Penacony after that. Tb never finds out about Robin's death in that ending, either. There's a lot of implications there that I don't want to get into for this post, but basically- The Family is orchestrating something, probs pinned the blame on the IPC in the bad ending (since otherwise why would hoyo tell us that?) and then brainwashed everyone to never leave. Why? No idea! But it does explain why Robin's "truth" (in quotations, because Black Swan's dialogue does imply Robin's not dead) is so important to the plot.
That was a bit of a tangent, lol. Going back to the first sc, I find it interesting Aventurine is the one to tell us this, and if we're going with the idea that gold=truth, that just tells us Acheron's most certainly an Emanator, no matter what the Dreamscape does. Why they choose to have Aventurine reveal this, especially with the first instance of golden text- that's still up in the air. However, something I want to throw in is that there was a theory floating around Twitter comparing his eyes to the eye behind Ena in their official art. They are identical- even the gold outline on Ena's eye matches his eyeliner. Since it's implied in his conversation with Sparkle his eyes are a defining feature of his race, Sigonian, and that their civilization has been taken over (I'm not clear on details) or fallen apart somehow- akin to how civilizations under Ena's rule fell apart after their death- there may be some relation. Also, Aventurine was sent to Penacony specifically, which Topaz questioned- this may be why Diamond sent him. It implies a lot of plot relevance for him later, certainly!
3. The really, really ominous text you can get from a side quest.
If you go to the Reverie(Dreamscape) VIP lounge teleport beacon and head to the wall, you find a broken Clockie surrounded by purple bubbles. If you haven't done this quest yet- do it now, I really can't explain all this! search up a guide- there's a couple good ones on youtube. you do get a sticker!
anyway, some screenshots of the tape's text (cw for slight gore, explosions, screams, overall very ominous and vague tour-guidey stuff):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
sorry for the text overlap lol, this was very inconveniently sized for screenshots.
anyway, yeah! possibly the most unnerving thing in the game so far (aside from those lost text stickers...). but, as you can tell, I'm gonna focus on the gold and red text. fair warning, I don't really know what to make of this, but I think there's some connection...
first, gold. this is, if we go off what I previously thought, the "truth". My current theory is that this gold is true of within or outside dreamscape- in other words, the dreamscape cannot alter that thing in the gold text. It's there, regardless of how the dreamscape screws other things up. The "truth" in the dreamscape isn't necessarily reliable, since dreamscape seems to fuck with everything, but gold is apparently truth, so we're sticking to that. That means that bloodshed, mind-opening (?), and pressure-releasing (???) is... true? It's kind of interesting- the other things in gold we've seen are statements with meaning, and this... kinda isn't. However, it could imply this is actually what's happening in the Dreamscape. Some kind of deranged, creepy thing that the dreamscape/ the Family is doing while everyone else is on this cool-looking vacation. I have no idea why that line, of all the lines, is gold, but it's certainly not something someone trying to make Penacony look good would say! That's all I know.
Not much I know about why the red one, specifically, is red either. Are the instruments/music fake? That's certainly a recurring motif in Penacony, between bands in the Golden Hour and Robin being a songstress, plus Ena's "Beyond the Sky Choir", their exclusive faction, which fell apart upon their death. Something about Ena being swallowed by XIpe will certainly be brought up later, I'm almost totally sure. It's also interesting it gets cut off by static, without even finishing the statement(I think). I have no idea what to make of these- I just needed to point out the similarities between this tape and the dialogue.
Also, the tape itself is suspicious. According to Woolesley, there are multiple, appearing all over the Reverie (Dreamscape) and sometimes even messing with the Dreamscape.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
First of all, why the hell is he telling us this very classified-sounding info? Also, he literally might pop up next to you- it's inevitable that you give him the tape at some point, really showing how The Family is cracking down on these.
Also, who's making these tapes? Why are they leaving them around the Dreamscape if they know it'll be taken? What's with these side effects/corrupting? And what's the relation between the tapes, Acheron, and Aventurine/Black Swan- are those things revealed in the tapes things only those three are aware of, or care to tell tb? It's really weird, especially since they're apparently in Clockie statues? Also, why tapes even- the tapes themselves seem corrupted(or censored?) weirdly, judging from the lines, and also just... why would anyone make these? Someone against the Family presumably wouldn't do rebellion in such a way, and someone within would have no reason to create this at all- is the Dreamscape itself making it? it's the only thing using both red and gold text...
there's probably some connection to Clockie, since that's who is most likely talking in the tape... and that's the statue we found it in too. Clockie is sus in a whole host of ways- don't even get me started, but I'm not sure how they relate to this theory just yet.
I have no idea. The tape is super creepy, but things probably will clear up a bit in 2.1!
tldr/clarification(sry for rambling so much): red text = lie/subjective/ easily changeable, to the dreamscape at least
gold text= "truth", dreamscape is unable to change it(?)
ena probs will have some lore relevance along with Robin, who seems to be the center of this "truth" for the moment
the bizarre tape is very mysterious and questionable, with nothing solid that we know about it- however, it uses both red and gold text, which automatically makes it suspicious even beyond what it's saying directly
what the hell is the family cooking up? i don't know, but it's probably not good! (for us, at least)
thank you for reading this lightly-proofread, very rambling theory/speculation- you are an angel for making it this long!

Top 5 fav actors?
Thanks for asking! But augh this is a hard one for me because I generally don’t get super obsessed with specific actors anymore? I don’t really have much of a faves list, aside from my #1 on here. So. Hmm.
George MacKay, of course. He is an actor who I was obsessed with for a very long time (because of 1917, naturally), probably my last celebrity crush before I stopped having them. He was the only actor I could think of for several minutes while I tried to remember other people who exist
Chadwick Boseman was such a fantastic actor and I was so devastated when he died. I remember the exact moment for some reason—we’d just gotten done with a football game in high school (I was in marching band) and one of my friends ran to me from across the room to inform me of Chadwick’s passing.
Robin Williams was always one of my favorites, too. He was the first celebrity I ever got really sad about when I’d heard he’d died
Elijah Wood because he is somehow both Frodo Baggins and Wirt Over the Garden Wall
Taron Egerton. Nice to look at :)

post nine gifs of your favourite characters and let people guess your type. then tag nine more people to do the same.
Tagged by @theheightofdishonor! Thanks mate!!
1. Is a tie, always, because I can never pick between Stiles or Malia when it comes to my ultimate TW fave. They're so interesting and fun and complicated and dee0ly strange people. I'm fascinated by their characters equally! Do not make me pick its mean!! So. No. 1 is StilesandMalia of Teen Wolf fame.
Tumblr media
That'll be the only cheat entry, though!! Promise.
2. Harry Potter, pretty obviously lol. Not the movie version, though, that exacerbates his camera tripod problems (i love him despite his lemon nature. It makes sense logically in-universe enough when i finagle it to).
We'll use Darren Criss, given he plays an excellent Harry visually and thematically (his AVP performance is very James. Very. In a comedy exaggeration way, ofc, but yk.)
Tumblr media
3. Throwback time to an old favourite. Alex Russo.
Tumblr media
I haven't seen the sequel series, ftr. Last thing I watched was the finale movie a decade ago. Man. Time sure passes, huh?
4. Steve Harrington. Sorry Robin </3 but I can only pick one, and [insert reason You're tasked to guess].
Tumblr media
5. Pope! Yay!!
Tumblr media
6. Cordelia Chase </3
Tumblr media
This is starting to get very laggy on my phone, lol. In the home stretch now!
7. Katou Haru
Tumblr media
8. Bakarina! [Affectionate] aka Catarina Claes.
Tumblr media
Why were no gifs coming up at all.... she's the one in blue at the middle-front.
9. Hmm. The problem is there will be characters i adore that I forgot existed simply because I was asked this question. We'll go with.... Rikki Chadwick, I think, for another throwback pick.
Tumblr media
And thats that! Thanks for the tag!! @livingincolorsagain , @doyelikehaggis , @vivithefolle ? No pressure! Plus anyone who seez this and wants to, ofc! Thats not nine people but I'm endlessly nervous about tagging. Sorry.

Haterating and hollerating through the '90s:
POSTCARDS FROM THE EDGE (1990): Carrie Fisher scripted this witty adaptation of her novel about coked-up, pill-popping actress Suzanne Yale (Meryl Streep), who overdoses in the bed of a strange man (Dennis Quaid), ends up in rehab, and learns that the only way the production insurance company will let her keep working is if she stays with her mother, an aging singer-actress-diva (Shirley MacLaine) whose love for her daughter is equaled only by her tireless determination to upstage her. (No, it's not autobiographical at all, why do you ask?) Fisher's deftly paced, funny script weaves in various serious mother-daughter moments without ever becoming mawkish, and offers a fabulous part for MacLaine, who has a ball poking fun at herself as well as Debbie Reynolds, Fisher's real-life mother and the obvious basis for the film's lightly fictionalized "Doris Mann." Curiously, the weakest link is Streep, who never quite sheds her customary air of prim affectation and always seems ill at ease with Fisher's layers of self-deprecating, sarcastic humor. CONTAINS LESBIANS? Apparently not, although I had questions about Suzanne's rehab friend Aretha (Robin Barlett). VERDICT: MacLaine's finest hour, but Streep's primness keeps it "good" rather than "great."
TERESA'S TATTOO (1993): Painfully unfunny crime comedy, directed by Melissa Etheridge's then-GF Julie Cypher and costarring Cypher's ex, Lou Diamond Phillips, along with an array of incongruously high-profile actors like Joe Pantoliano, Tippi Hedren, Mare Winningham, Diedrich Bader, k.d. lang (!), Sean Astin, Emilio Estevez, and Kiefer Sutherland, most in bit parts (some of them unbilled). The headache-inducing plot concerns a couple of brain-dead thugs whose elaborate hostage scheme hits a snag when their hostage (Adrienne Shelly) accidentally dies. Their solution is to kidnap lookalike Teresa (also Adrienne Shelly), a brainy Ph.D. candidate, and disguise her to look like the dead girl — including giving her a matching tattoo on her chest — in the hopes that the dead girl's idiot brother (C. Thomas Howell) won't notice the switch until it's too late. This truly bad grade-Z effort, barely released theatrically, feels like either a vanity project or a practical joke that got out of hand, and is interesting mostly as a curiosity for Melissa Etheridge fans: The soundtrack is M.E.-heavy, and Etheridge herself has a brief nonspeaking role. CONTAINS LESBIANS? Technically? (Etheridge has no lines and lang plays a Jesus freak.) VERDICT: May erode your affection for M.E.
BLUE JUICE (1995): Tiresome comedy-drama about an aging surfer (a terribly miscast, painfully uncomfortable-looking Sean Pertwee) who's still determined to continue living like a 20-year-old surf bum with his obnoxious mates, even though his back is giving out and he's perilously close to driving away his girlfriend (a disconcertingly hot 25-year-old Catherine Zeta Jones), who is keen for him to finally cut the shit. Meanwhile, the scummiest of his mates (Ewan McGregor) doses their pal Terry (Peter Gunn) and gets him to chase after an actress from his childhood favorite TV show (Jenny Agutter) in hopes of dissuading from marrying his actual girlfriend (Michelle Chadwick), and their mate Josh (Steven Mackintosh), a successful techno producer, flirts with an attractive DJ (Colette Brown) who's actually furious at him for building a vapid techno hit around a sample of her soul singer dad's biggest hit. The latter storyline probably had the most potential (although a weird scene where Josh is castigated by a group of outraged soul fans seems like a lesser TWILIGHT ZONE plot), but none of the script's various threads ever amounts to much. CONTAINS LESBIANS? It doesn't even pass the Bechdel test. VERDICT: If you happen upon it, you may be tempted just for Zeta Jones (and/or Brown), but the rest wears out its welcome with alacrity.
HIGHER LEARNING (1995): Potent story of simmering racial tensions on the campus of a university that definitely isn't USC (writer-director John Singleton's alma mater, and where most of the film was obviously shot), let down by incredibly heavy-handed execution. (The film's final shot is of the word "UNLEARN" superimposed over a giant American flag!) A capable cast (including Omar Epps, Kristy Swanson, Michael Rapaport, Jennifer Connelly, Ice Cube, Tyra Banks, Cole Hauser, Laurence Fishburne, and Regina King) tries to maintain a sense of emotional reality through Singleton's frequent excursions into overpowering melodrama, but there are so many competing plot threads that few characters have any depth; curiously, the script's most complex characterization is in the scenes between budding white supremacist Remy (Rapaport) and Aryan Brotherhood organizer Scott (Hauser). Singleton made this film when he was 25, and there's no shame in its sense of breathless ambition (even if it inevitably bites off more than it can chew), but the overwrought stridency undercuts its intended impact. For a more effective treatment of similar themes in roughly the same period, try Gilbert Hernandez's graphic novel X, originally serialized in LOVE & ROCKETS #31–39 and first collected in 1993. CONTAINS LESBIANS? Jennifer Connelly gives Kristy Swanson a bisexual awakening. VERDICT: The '90s through a bullhorn.
CRASH (1996): Divisive David Cronenberg adaptation of the J.G. Ballard novel, about a movie producer called James Ballard (James Spader) and his desperately horny wife (Deborah Kara Unger), drawn into a loose-knit group of car-crash fetishists organized around a man called Vaughan (Elias Koteas at his creepiest), who stages recreations of famous celebrity crashes like the 1955 accident that killed James Dean. Despite some pretentious dialogue about "the reshaping of the human body by modern technology," the controlling idea might be better summarized as "anything can be a paraphilia if you get weird enough about it." Part of what offends people about the film is that Cronenberg deliberately treats the entire story with the same frosty clinical detachment, rendering the "normal" sex scenes just as remote and perverse as the characters' fixation on the grisly aftermath of car wrecks; the point is that there is no line, just different facets of the same erotic longing, which each of the (admittedly unsympathetic) principal characters embodies in different ways. Spader, Kara Unger, and Koteas are very good, as is Holly Hunter, in perhaps the bravest role of her career, but Rosanna Arquette is underutilized. A worthwhile companion piece would be Steven Soderbergh's 1989 SEX, LIES, AND VIDEOTAPE, also with Spader, which is much more highly regarded (though almost as contrived and scarcely less perverse), perhaps because it seeks to titillate where Cronenberg does not. CONTAINS LESBIANS? Briefly. (See previous note in re: underutilization of Rosanna Arquette.) VERDICT: Icy but interesting.

Donald Sutherland 12. Chadwick Boseman 13. Denzel Washington 14. Kerry Washington 15. Chris Evans 16. Robert Downey Jr 17. Gal Gadot 18. writing patterns
Finally getting around to this — work is nuts, but friends are in town, so life is a double-edged sword. Thanks to @liminalmemories and @walkinginland for the tags!
Rules: Share the first line of your last ten published works or as many as you are able and see if there are any patterns!
Carlos has never put much stock in superstition. (Buck Up, Cowboy, my installment of the Lire Birthday Project)
TK steps through the front door to the sight of his husband standing at the stove and the smell of something heavenly wafting from the oven, and between his pointedly empty stomach and his perpetually excitable brain, he’s not sure which one seems more delicious. (words to get off his chest)
“Okay,” TK says, frowning up at the underside of his favorite jawline, “I’m confused. I thought there were twelve days of Christmas.” (esta noche es de alegría)
Carlos likes it when it rains at recess. (to build a home)
In theory, this is nothing new. (Past Perfect Future Tense)
There's an endless instant in the grey, straddling the line between sun-bright freedom at his back and the cage of darkness up ahead, when Eliot thinks of his grandmother. (all the things that will be lost now)
Quentin wakes to the smell of cinnamon. (What Baking Can Do)
Eliot Waugh lights a cigarette and lies back with a sigh, artfully arranging himself atop the stone retaining wall that borders Nigel Garity's sprawling estate. (scenes from an unfinished story (told by the lost and found))
"Satisfied?" Robin Chadwick steps out from behind the wardrobe department's folding screen, spreading his arms wide and smirking at his companions for the night. "You got my ass into leather pants." (Variations on a Theme)
The first time he'd ever picked up a guitar, it had nothing to do with music. (Confidence Man)
Man, my tendency to kick things off with a POV character name sure is on full display, isn’t it?
Open tag, because I’m hella late. 😘

10 Questions Game
Tagged by: @murdadixon 🙄🖤
1. What is your phone background?
Lock screen - Negan Smith
Tumblr media
Home screen - Andy Biersack
Tumblr media
2. Who is your favorite singer?
My favorite stand-alone singer is probably Post Malone but this is such a difficult question. I know this wasn’t asked but my favorite rapper is, without contest, Eminem. Always has been, always will be. Yk who’s growing on me as a singer, though? Ricky Montgomery. He’s slowly climbing my Top Listened!
Tumblr media
3. Favorite Band?
Also difficult. I love so many. I’m currently hyper-fixated on Black Veil Brides once again, for the millionth time, so I will tentatively list them as my favorite band for now with the begrudged knowledge that this answer is subject to change at any time. I have been listening religiously for a decade, though.
Tumblr media
4. Who is your favorite character of all time?
I hate you for asking me this! I have so many favorites but after sitting here and grueling over an answer, I have decided that it’s an impossible call-off between MCU Thor and Lip Gallagher. I have characters that I love a whole lot and go in and out of having a special interest on, such as Spider-Man, Batman, Deadpool, Moon Knight, Jason Todd, but they’re not at the top. I can’t even say that my current favorite character is actually my favorite character because I’d be lying. But my favorite character as of right now is Negan.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
5. What is your favorite book?
The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. Until the day I die. I read it and it completely changed my life, seeing a book with stories so similar to how I’d grown up. I wrote passively, as an interest, but after reading this in 2 days (when I was supposed to read it with the class over the course of a month) I decided then and there that I wanted to actually become an author.
Tumblr media
6. What is your favorite movie?
It’s been Avatar by James Cameron for almost 14 years now, since the day it first came out, but I think that the original Scream is finally starting to try and take its place as my fave. I suppose we shall see! 😩
Tumblr media
7. Favorite Actor or Actress?
Ummmm, shit. Can’t choose. Jeremy Allen White, Chris Hemsworth, Matthew Lillard, Evan Peters. It’s an extensive list but they’re the ones who come to mind first. A lot of my favorites have already passed, like Heath Ledger, Chadwick Boseman, Robin Williams, Cameron Boyce, Angus Cloud, etc.
Tumblr media
8. Favorite YouTuber?
I don’t really watch YouTube anymore—in fact I never got into YouTuber’s the way everyone else my age did, so all I can tell you is that Dan and Phil were the only people I watched on YT when I was younger. I think a little tiny bit of their gay rubbed off on me 🤔
Tumblr media
9. Do you drink?
Errrmmmm. Not often. I used to drink way too much as a teenager and had a problem so now I really only do it if there’s some kind of occasion. Scared for my 21st birthday in November if I’m tbh with y’all.
10. If you were an animal, what would you be?
A few of my friends and I came to the conclusion that I’m a raccoon, but that I shouldn’t say that because it would be too easy for ppl to call me a POC slur (I’m Mixed) and I thought that was hysterical LMAO iykyk
Tagging @hopefulatrocity @lanadelnegan and @sonsofnight y’all are legit my only Tumblr friends

Christmas With The Super-Heroes #2
Warning, Spoilers Ahead…
Christmas With The Super-Heroes #2 is DC’s 1989 holiday special. The cover depicts Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern (Hal), Aquaman, Flash, Hawkman, the Atom, Plastic Man, and Nightwing at Santa’s workshop in the North Pole.
The issue opens with “Ex-Machina”, a Superman story by Paul Chadwick. Superman rescues a stranded, highly distressed man during a snowstorm. He directs him to seek shelter at the Kent Farm.
Story: 3 out of 5 stars. I do love a caring Superman.
Next up is Batman in “And In The Depths” by Dave Gibbons and Gray Morrow.
The story opens with contemplation over how long the Batcave has been in existence, Then we get a flashback to a young Bruce discovering the cave and the bats that live within.
We fast forward to Bruce turning into the cave into the Batcave, adopting Dick and Dick becoming Robin. Dick’s presence causes the “darkness” in the cave to recede but Dick leaves for Hudson University, causing the darkness to rush back.
“For some, there is no escape.” Some = Bruce.
“Dark. Cold. Dark as despair. Cold as death. The world can be cruel to the innocent. Lost in the abyss, they may lose sight of the sky. Battered and beaten, they may not remember tranquility. But even as their blood freezes in mortal dread. Even as eternal night seems inescapable.”
The art around these caption boxes depicts a dying robin (a bird) falling to the ground by the memorial case containing Jason Todd’s Robin costume.
The next page depicts a live healthy robin (the bird) flying into the Batcave and chasing off the bats: “Even then the flame of hope may still ignite in their breasts. They may discover strength within. May recognize a greater truth. And may be miraculously saved. For without darkness, light has no meaning. And long though the night has been…it cannot last forever.”
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars.  The only connection this story has to Christmas is there is a Christmas Tree in a panel of the Dick portion of the story. I wasn’t enjoying the first few pages of the story, but it came around. This story was published within a few months of Tim Drake’s first appearance in the Batman series. If only DC had managed to publish this story before Tim’s debut – it would have been such a subtle way to foreshadow the appearance of a new Robin. And to publish it in a non-Batman title! Instant stealth bomb.
The third story is “Gifts”, a Wonder Woman story by Eric Shanower.  Eric Shanower is most known for his epic Age of Bronze comic series so its appropriate he was given the Wonder Woman story. Seriously, if you love Greek mythology, read Age of Bronze. It’s unfinished, it may never be finished, but it is worth it.
This takes place during the George Perez run on the Wonder Woman series so it will feature many of the supporting characters from that era. The story opens with Diana having a nightmare involving Hippolyta, Myndi Mayer (a publicist), Hermes, and Zeus. Diana wakes from the nightmare when Zeus proposes that he and Diana be of “one flesh”. Not gonna lie, that would make me wake screaming in fear too!
We then switch to the home of Julia and Vanessa Kapatelis. Julia is a Greek language/history professor. Diana stayed with the pair in Boston after she first came to “man’s world”. Vanessa would later go on to become the post-Crisis “Silver Swan”. I have no idea if Vanessa is the New 52/Rebirth/whatever era DC is currently in Silver Swan.
Pastor Sharon, an old college friend of Julia, tells her that she recently found out that her husband is having an affair and had filed for divorce?
Was everyone at DC depressed in 1989? The Superman story had a man attempt suicide, Batman’s life is neverending darkness he can’t escape, and Wonder Woman’s story is infidelity and divorce? The stories aren’t exactly spreading the Christmas cheer!
Sharon meets Wonder Woman and they exchange “what do you do for a living?” stories. Diana: “I really don’t consider myself a super-hero. True, I have assisted them and have friends among them, but I do not feel like one of them. I am here to tell this world of the Amazon way of life, to teach your people a new way of living, a way of love and peace.”
Diana, Sharon, and the Kapatelis participate in the traditional holiday events: caroling, baking, and a nice meal. Diana is unable to find sleep later that night.  Sharon is also unable to sleep and the duo talk downstairs. Diana is frustrated by the lack of progress in her mission. Sharon gives her the “fight the good fight” talk.
The story ends with the group exchanging gifts on Christmas morning.
Rating: 3 out of 5 stars.
The fourth story is “Silent Night” by John Byrne and Andy Kubert. The story features Enemy Ace aka Hans Von Hammer, a German pilot during World War I. There is no dialogue in this story. It takes place on a base that holds wounded soldiers. Enemy Ace lands and delivers care packages. A blonde nurse has him stay and dances with him inside a building. Ace salutes the names of soldiers on a board. Possibly a list of soldiers who had passed away. A wounded soldier attempts to shoot Ace but is stopped by another soldier who has Ace leave. Ace kisses the hand of the blonde nurse and flies away. I haven’t read much of Enemy Ace, so I’m unsure of the dynamics between the characters. Did Ace drop off medical supplies for the other side? Is that why the soldier attempted to shoot him?
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars. It’s not a traditional Christmas story – the only “Christmas” aspect is the snow. It is a highly effective example of telling a story with no dialogue.
The fifth story is untitled by Bill Loebs and Colleen Doran. It features Flash (Barry Allen) and Green Lantern (Hal Jordan). Barry is stuck at the Watchtower due to monitor duty. Hal is bored and joined Barry to pass the time. We discover Green Arrow (Oliver Queen) gives Hal a cop of “Das Capital” every year: “I think this is his way of making sure I read it!” Spoiler Alert: Hal still hasn’t read the book.
Barry tells Hal that Wally (the pre-Crisis Kid Flash) gives Barry socks every year – specifically, multiple pairs of yellow socks with tiny blue clocks. Barry now owns 75 pairs of those pairs of socks.
Hal announces that monitor duty is over (even though no one has shown up to replace Barry). Hal wants to go to “some small burg where they know how to have an old-fashioned Christmas”.
The pair change to civilian attire and head to “some small burg”. All they find is rain, grumpiness, and theft. They change back to heroic attire to stop a robbery and encounter C.B Feinster, one of the richest men on earth. He’s also one of the most depressed as he informs the heroes “life is meaningless” and people have “withered, evil, souls”.
The duo decide to prove Christmas is real, so they dress the millionaire in a Santa outfit, conjure up a sleigh, and essentially kidnap him to hand out presents.
By the end of the night, Feinster has gotten into the spirit and goes out of his way to help a homeless family and other residents of the town.
The story ends with Hal wishing Barry a “Happy Hanukkah” and Barry telling Hal “Merry Christmas”.
Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars.
The sixth story is “Should Auld Aquaintance Be Forgot”. A Deadman story by Alan Brennert and Dick Girodano.
Deadman, per the theme of this issue, is in a funk: “Christmas is not my favorite time of year. Too much damn goodwill floating around. Not enough for me to do. Too much time alone.” He contemplates visiting Corrigan (aka the Spectre) but decides “he gets little enough normalcy, either”.
Deadman (Boston Brand) pops into a body here and there, enjoys a bit of ice skating, etc, and hops along to a Christmas party. Boston leaves his host and rages: “Damn you, Rama! Is this the reward I get for serving you and your damned lords of order? Am I supposed to be grateful for this?”
A long blonde-haired woman with red earrings asks: “Is that why you do this? For the rewards?”
A startled Brand asks: “You can see me? Who are you, one of Madame Xanadu’s smartass mystic friends?”
The mystery blonde responds: “Me? No, magic and I have never been boon companions, I’m afraid.”
This is where the reader should be paying attention and connecting the dots on the identy of the mystery blonde. I’ve read the story before so I know the answer but I’ll wait to the end of the story for the revelation.
Boston continues: “Then how?”
The mystery blonde responds: “Does it matter? A minute ago you were raging against the gods for being alone. If you want, I can always leave.”
The duo continue their conversation and Boston thinks: “There was something about her…about her tone…that made me feel like a lichen, compared to her. I’d been feeling like Job, and her she was, making me feel like Judas. And I didn’t know why.”
The blonde takes off Boston’s mask to reveal the human face underneath. She tells Boston: “We don’t do it for the glory. We don’t do it for recognition. We do it because it needs to be done. Because if we don’t no one else will. And we do it even if no one knows what we’ve done. Even if no one knows we exist. Even if no one remembers we ever existed.”
The mystery blonde announces she must leave as she business to attend to. Boston stops her: “Who are you? How can you see me? I don’t even know your name.”
The blonde answers: “My name is…”
Yes, the blonde gives her name but I’m withholding for a minute to review the clues:
A long-haired blonde with red earrings
She can see Deadman. Who else can see Deaman but another ghost?
“Magic and I have never been boon companions I’m afraid.”
High standard of morality that makes other heroes feel lesser
She is able to remove Boston’s mask – another indication she is a ghost
The “we don’t do it for the glory” speech: “we do it even if no one knows what we’ve done. Even if no one knows we exist. Even if no one remembers we ever existed”’
Have you guessed her identity? Back to the reveal…
The blonde answers: “My name is Kara. Though I doubt that’ll mean anything to you.”
Boston reflects: “She was right. It didn’t”.
Christmas With The Super-Heroes #2 is the last appearance of the pre-Crisis Supergirl. Kara sacrificed herself in a last stand with the Anti-Monitor in the Crisis on Infinite Earths series. Even if you’ve never read the series, you’ll recognize the cover of a grief-stricken Superman holding Supergirl’s body. Due to the nature of the resolution of the Crisis, Kara’s existence was erased from everyone’s memories and the continuity of the DC Universe. Side note: Kara was awesome when she decided to truly throw down. See the showdown with the Anti-Monitor in the Crisis and her confrontation with Darkseid in the Great Darkness Saga.
The story ends “With respect and admiration for the works of Otto Binder and Jim Mooney. We still remember.”
Binder and Mooney were the creators of Supergirl.
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. It was great to get one last appearance of the original and the greatest Supergirl.
