“You’re so unfair grounding me two days before Christmas.”

“You’re lucky to be allowed to hang with the adults, you also can’t nap because Auntie Em is probably not gonna be able to help.”

“You’re so lucky you can drink.” Kat muttered.

Emma joked plainly to Kat, “Be careful what you wish for, kid.”

“So Kat you will be a good host and help your mom.”

“Yes m’am.” She rolled her eyes. “Can I get a few bucks sugamomma for lunch?”

Manny pulled out a five and a ten, “You can get yourself something from The Dot. As far as moms go, you can do worse.” Manny was in a good mood or she was trying to be and masking by immating the wives she sees on the shows she watches, very June Cleaver as she fried the bacon on the griddle for everyone. “ Also you’re very lucky Santa is coming after the stuff you pulled at school the parties, the sneaking out, you can forget about Disney World Senior Trip you keep it up, or university?”

“Ugh! Mom please, you can be so ugh!”  She took off her sunglasses to show she ‘means’ business or wants to be tough. Kat is far from a morning person and Manny experiences this on a daily basis the back and forth. If mom says no ask dad, they both say no ask Joey, if all three are united on no she calls her rich auntie Em and of course it’s always a yes. Emma sees it from Manny’s perspective and her own and suddenly it seems kind of fucked.  “I don’t care, what’s the point? Go to college be trillions in debt, whoo hoo. It’s all a joke. Neither of your guys went to university.”

“Honey, we did, maybe not your aunt no offense.”

“None taken.”

“We saved up, your father and I, we didn’t go right away but you have an amazing opportunity. Your dad and I, Aunt Em, we didn’t go to a four year university, and your lovely aunt Emma didn’t put your college fund together and gift you money for you to throw away your potential and your future.”

She drank some coffee picking at her poptart unphased and sounding like a spoiled brat with little to no opinions or cares. She proceeded to get super cultural maybe she was trying to paint a picture for Emma and be generally rude, “Paul said that college is a trap and a money grab for the rich elite.”

“Who is to say Paul’s sticking around?" Manny questioned shaking her head and adding, "you’re going to college end of story."

“Why are you so unfair mom? Why must you have to rain on my parade all the time?” 

“Guys, I have a headache. Keep it down to a dull roar.” Emma groaned and moaned as she got up and rummaged through the fridge and got a bottle of water out and something to snack on as Manny was prepping things in the kitchen. “Oh and Kat?”

“What, Auntie Em?”

“Did you tell your mom how disrespectful you were to me yesterday when all I asked was where you were planning on going dressed like your mom at that rave circa 2003?”

Manny was shocked and a little bit humiliated, “Emma!”

“Mom! Why am I just finding that out, you held out on me? You were a raver mom? I can get used to Auntie Em, who I suddenly forgive now.” She clinked Emma’s coffee mug with her own. 

“Emma! Why?” Manny widened her eyes and was still recovering from that humbling moment, still humiliated by that revelation and her daughters reaction. “Not another word about my life before you were around. A very long eighteen years ago. You weren’t even a glimmer in my eye. Your father was not even supposed to be there.”

“You peeled off early with Kat’s father, and I walked in on you two making kissyfaces in my twin bed because you left me there if I remember that night correctly.”

“Em, must you? Now go sleep it off. I'm having a very serious conversation with my very impressionable teenaged daughter. I don’t want to remember that. We almost stopped being friends over that. Ugh, no.” And turned to Kat, “Please don’t make the same mistakes I made in fashion.”

Emma was about to retire herself from the conversation at Manny’s request and left them with, “Manny for the record I hope you’ll always remember thongs go inside the jeans.” In a sing-song voice, she bid them goodbye for now, “I’ll be outside.” With her, she took her hot coffee that finally finished percolating in the Keurig.

🤩 What's the most meaningful comment you've ever received?

I've had so many meaningful comments throughout the past 2 years of writing, all of them I hold near and dear to my heart. This particular fic was my first true "going out on a limb" for a rarepair,and this comment from two months ago meant so so much! It made me feel like it was all worth the learning experience of writing for a new character (jonathan!!!) and really getting into his head. (thank you @templeofxian <3333 you're lovely)

Sticking with the theme of there is a light that never goes out.....

Her fingers slipped under the jacket, grazing his like tiny shards of ice that matched his own. She giggled before gazing seriously into his eyes. “Are you sure? Your hands are cold like mine.” “They’re always cold,” he said as a bluff, watching her jaw chatter. “Take it. I promise I’m good.” “Cold hands, warm heart, Granddad used to say.” Chrissy spread the jacket like a blanket over her, but when Jonathan tried to retrieve his hand, she grabbed it in both of hers, pulling him closer to her heart. “Jonathan Byers has a warm heart.” He tensed with the sudden touch, but quickly relaxed as her delicate hands lingered. They weren’t invasive or ambivalent, they were gentle as she studied his reaction. His voice came out choppy, still processing their closeness. “My mom says that, too. Never understood what your hands have to do with your heart.” “Granddad said it was the body’s way of feeding a heart so caring that it forgets to care for its own hands.” Her eyes sparkled in the moonlight, trying to focus on him. She brought his hand to her face, helping him cup the soft round of her cheek. Under his palm, her skin felt hot.

Yeah yeah yeah it's more than a line or paragraph, oops!!! But I just love this scene so much <3 tipsy Chrissy is laying it thick! Jonathan is Jonathaning! I bathe in the delight of this whole chapter often <3

Would you consider TMA magical realism? Because I kind of would at first but the last season is very different.

I definitely would consider it magical realism, because at its core it is still set in a world much like the real world, with magical elements. The question of season 5 is a complex one, but my question is; are they still in the same world?

Magical realism needs to be set in a predominantly realistic world. Stories with trolls, fairies, or other mystical species are not magical realism because the world itself is not realistic. So do the avatars becoming a predominant "species" make the world unrealistic? And does doing so put them in an entirely new world, despite physically being in the same place.

Personally, I would call the series on a whole magical realism. I would, however, argue that season 5 is no longer magical realism because the setting has changed to a non-realistic world.

So this is some advice to new fic writers!!

If you wanna write ships/x reader I recommend you start off with thoughts and then turn it into a full on fic.

Don't rush, you're not in a hurry, quality over quantity.

You might think your writing is shit, but your readers don't, if you get haters, just ignore them cause they're not telling the truth!

Don't be afraid to have your own thoughts on a character, if everyone thinks x character does this but you think that character actually does something else that's completely fine and something you can include in your fics.

Before you start doing requests, be as self indulgent as you possibly wanna be, your ideas are what you should write more.

Cross posting fics isn't lazy, you're just spreading out your platform

DON'T write things you don't wanna write, trust me, it really shows when you don't.

Last but not least, you can take breaks from writings, writers are humans, we get writing blocks too and that's fine.

Oh, anytime of the day, honestly. I'm always writing (when I'm not working on my grad school homework) but I'd say evening to early morning...so like from 6:00 pm to 3:00 am is prime writing time for me. I also get some of my best ideas during the early morning hours so that's why I'd say between those times is when I like to write. But I'm always writing/working on something so...anytime of day is a good time to write

I’m a terrible person for not answering this sooner! I’m so sorry!!

🌙 What time of day do you prefer to write? Why?

I prefer to start first thing when n the morning, but that’s usually when I get a lot of my chores/ errands done. I find myself writing consistently in late afternoon/ evening (though I still prefer writing as early in the day as possible; my motivation wanes through the afternoon).

🌞Who is one character you haven’t yet written for that you would like to?

This was the one I was trying to mull over before I answered this ask and then got sidetracked! I’m not sure! I’ve written all of the main characters in BttF, so I guess I would start exploring more tertiary/ background characters. I liked giving Stubble more a voice to even out Buford in Part 3 of my Time Circuits Series, and in an alternate timeline of my own fic where Emma gets kidnapped by Tannen for an extensive period of time after the murder of her father, his gang would play a much more central role. I also have only just grazed Jules and Verne, but I adore writing them, especially in the “Storytime with Marty McFly” snippets I do where Marty is telling them about his adventures at the fireside. Giving them their own adventure might be fun!

🍰 Name one of you favorite comfort fics!

A Visit with an Old Friend by thepreciousthing has been one that’s stuck with me since I first read it on FFN way back when. It’s sad but heartwarming and just hits the spot. A wonderful culmination of a friendship, too! And a hug!

Despite the Distance by @knickynoo also hits the spot with my love of alternate timelines and sheer wholesomeness. And, of course, angst, because it’s good for you!

Yes. I have left a few chapters in different stories on a cliffhanger. I find I tend to do so during angst related scenes.

ahhhhh! for one if my coworkers were reading fanfic, I'd be hella shocked!!! hmmm I think it would depend on the fic and/or if they'd immediately check out my other works connected to my username.... I'd probably keep quiet, except maybe for one or two of them!

👶Fankids: How you do you feel about them? Would your OTP have kids?

fankids are tough! I think many times they can take away what I loved about the pair I ship because they become the center focus and detract all the traits/chemistry I enjoyed about the orig pairing. HOWEVER, there have been quite a few hellcheer fics that have proven that wrong!! And I even happily reread them!
