#1.1 Arrival

Bam woke up frantically. His heart was beating out of control, his hair was damp with sweat, and his shirt stuck uncomfortably to his skin. He couldn’t remember if he was having a nightmare or not, but… seeing that Khun was still missing from his side of the bed, it might as well be one.

It had been days since Khun went missing. Bam might've gone insane from sleep deprivation alone.

Yes. That must’ve been it. He didn't recognize the ceiling he was looking at, and the bed felt different…had he even been sleeping on a bed?

He didn't feel any restraints or killing intentions, so this was unlikely to be a kidnapping. But the unfamiliarity did ring an alarm in his head, awakened him as if his body had been doused in cold water.

Oh, wait. He recognized this room; this was the dorm on the second floor. Come to think of it…the dream…what was it again? God? Something about sending him to another timeline because Khun was also sent there? Because he asked to find their missing friends?

Bam closed his eyes and willed himself to focus with the little sleep he had. He felt some familiar presence in the building, and that was all he needed to know to be convinced that he was really back in time. A surge of relief filled his heart, but anxiety was quick to follow.

He stumbled to the bathroom and saw how unsightly he looked in the mirror, hair tangled and eyebags pronounced. He needed to fix that before he showed himself to anyone outside. After all, Khun had drilled into him that first impressions were important.

He had just finished putting on his makeup when someone knocked on his door. He already had a guess on who it could be judging by their shinsu presence, but it still surprised him to actually see everyone when he opened his door.

"Ah–"

why aren't there more mysteries that take place in nursing homes & retirement communities. i want to watch a group of deranged retirees-cum-amateur-detectives combine their powers of:

decades of life experience

boredom-fueled busybody shamelessness

access to the most gossipy next-door-neighbors in existence

"I am too old to be arrested and/or give a shit" attitude

and solve crimes. this should be an enormous subgenre.

#their sidekick/Watson/pet hacker is a 15 year old grandkid who hangs out with gram gram on the weekends #her only power is that she has above average search engine skills and flexible knees #which is completely sufficient to round out the group's skill set #they involve her in heist style operations #on the rare occasion she gets caught housebreaking she explains her grandma locked herself out of the condo and asked for help getting in #then this sweet slightly addled old lady shows up and explains she got the address mixed up #it's so confusing when you're old & all the houses look alike and oh she's so sorry to have caused so much trouble #and meanwhile the teenager is rolling her eyes bc she's aware gram gram was a career criminal & con artist for 50 years #anyway gimme a 80-year-old con artist turned amateur sleuth who loves getting older because people are less suspicious of little old ladies #this all takes place in florida naturally

actually sometimes being neurodivergent is great bc you have a particular kind of Silly Mode that just . manifests glory. harmless fun is my precious side quest & i have a high score in whimsy. like okay if i gotta be the first dork in the dance pit it's gonna be me and this random toddler and we're gonna avril-style rock ouuuuttt

#It’s just so different #even though it’s public it still feels secret and safe. i feel comfy sharing a lot more on here than I do in my actual day to day life lol #in my head I’m also just speaking to myself 90% of the time which helps #if a friend off tumblr saw my thoughts I’d feel so weird ab it #esp bc they might get the vagueposting about certain situations and tell mutual friends #no thank u. this is for me. I’m not about to start censoring my thoughts bc someone I know knows my tumblr #u guys literally saw me have LIVE BREAKDOWNS #meanwhile I’ll have the worst fucking day in history and tell no one about it. I’m already cripplingly private but way more so in real life #this is basically a low stress journaling outlet for me. it’s so important for me to maintain the separation #like this is actually my diary & has been so handy for letting out emotions / articulating thoughts / staying on track !!#& I’ve met so many kind people on here who actually get me. which is so hard to find irl bc I’m surrounded by pre-med gunners/overachievers #who are by standard not very good w emotion & can be competitive/judgmental. or at least it’s hard for me to be vulnerable in front of them #and I’m part of that crowd so I reserve my emotions only to a handful of very close friends #it’s nice to hop on here and express negative emotions!! or positive emotions!! just whatever I want and it’s low stress and people get me #I don’t have to worry about judgment or competitiveness etc etc #like everyone on here is so kind & nice & understanding. & just a breath of fresh air from the types I run w. it’s just nice to have this #so idk that’s why I think I’ll always be strict about keeping the worlds separate. it just works #p

The betrayal of the left I feel most acutely isn't the mask-off antisemitism. Truth be told, I knew that was coming (even though I couldn't predict it would get this bad). What hurts is people's complete inability to call out the worst of it. Someone is yelling "go back to Poland?" Disavow it in the strongest terms. People are holding a banner with the words "Long Live October 7"? Expel them from your movement and don't let them back. See the odd Sieg Heil at your protest? For fuck's sake, get them the hell out of there however you can.

Why is this not happening? Getting rid of the Nazis is the lowest fucking bar. Why can't people clear it?
