One of the saddest things about Demon Slayers, to me, is the fact that Michikatsu and Yoriichi never reconcile. It such a jarring thing compared to the other Upper Moons, especially given the importance of Yoriichi to the story and how the twins story was still not fully resolved, in my eyes at least.

It becomes even sadder, as others bring up, that Yoriichi probably reincarnated without his twin. Did reincarnated Yoriichi ever felt he was missing something? That there was some fundamental part of himself that was just... not there?

Well, I decided to write a short on that.

Also, quick question. I keep seeing people say that, since Michikatsu was a demon, he wouldn't reincarnate. From what I see in Buddhism, heaven and hell aren't permanent. Wouldn't he just be reborn in one of the hells and eventually have his karma "burned away", and hopefully be reborn into a higher realm?

Obviously, he would be in the hells for a very, very long time, but he would eventually be reborn. Or did I miss something from the manga that says otherwise?

Also the fact that like Nani is pressured into giving up custody for Lilo because she doesn’t have insurance and can’t afford the hospital bill and she’s coerced into signing because then the state will cover it. I’m supposed to find that a heart warming moment when the social worker is showing that she cares about Nani and Lilo? Really? How is that not just financial coercion? How is that just not a criticism of the health care industry in America (that I’m sure they didn’t mean to do on purpose)

Also it’s so blatantly obvious how the writers of this movie have no idea why Nani sings Aloha 'Oe to Lilo the night she finds out she is going to be taken away. A YouTuber named Sideways, who analyzes music in film(and has done a whole video about how Disney’s live action remakes don’t work musically years before this) explained that scene so beautifully.

How the sond Aloha 'Oe was originally written by the Queen of Hawaii for the people of Hawaii after American Colonizers forced her to surrender the Islands. How she performed it as a last goodbye for the country that was being taken away from her. And that mirrors how Lilo is now being taken away from Nani by colonial forces (even tho Cobra Bubbles does mean well and sympathizes lilo is still being given into the care of the US government) and this is her subtle goodbye to her. And it’s fucking brilliant and you can tell that that scene was written by people that fucking care and know what the fuck kind of movie they are writing. The scene is solemn and is treated as such. Nani sings it as tho it were a lullaby and a final goodbye. It’s the first time the song is sang in the movie because the writers actually understand the gravity of it.

Instead what we get in the live action is lilo first singing it to Stitch randomly while doing (I think maybe the accompanying?) Hula because why the fuck not. And then a lifeless dark scene where Nani plays the ukulele and sings to her like the fact that she had just been coerced into giving up her sister wasn’t just treated like a good and final decision. Because, why the fuck not.

this is a surprise to no one but i’m thinking of the twins again. cause i don’t know whether we’re told when tilda developed her drug addiction but considering her erratic behaviour surrounding the twins birth im assuming she was already using prior to the twins arrival. and if she was using before, during, and after giving birth, that introduces so many heartbreaking possibilities for the twins.

i see people saying they just couldn’t take andrew or aaron seriously because they’re five foot even cause that’s a funny height apparently and i just think: did u know a long term impact of prenatal drug use is impaired growth? add that to potential malnutrition and yeah suddenly it’s not that funny anymore. besides andrew being short probably made him seem like an easy target to his abusers which is what made it necessary for him to learn to defend himself in the first place sooo

other impacts of prenatal drug use: altered brain development, cognitive and behavioural issues, damaged communication/language development, newborns can be born addicted and subsequently go through withdrawals (called neonatal abstinence syndrome, which has a long list of symptoms and can cause newborns to be hospitalised or worse). in any context, this is a horribly traumatic thing for a baby to go through but then consider this:

andrew’s brain is already struggling to develop properly thanks to his mother’s drug abuse. and then you add on frequent repetitive abuse including but not limited to several occurrences of child sa. already a 7 year old brain is not wired to be able to cope with that. tie that in with his significant abandonment issues stemming from first his mother and then every subsequent family he stays with giving him up. his own narrative tries so hard to doom him, and he responds to that the only way he can: through anger. violence. how else was he supposed to respond? yes this is more andrew defence bc it seems there’s been a sudden influx of andrew hate and it boils my piss

that brings me to a new point: andrew as a newborn. and his foster family does not want to give him the extra attention he needs as a baby born through prenatal drug use. so they give him up. again and again. so

but to talk about aaron for a sec - not only could he have been born addicted, but being breastfed by a drug user (it’s up in arms whether tilda would breast feed) also has its symptoms - can make the baby sick, can ruin its sleep, cause later behavioural issues and even transfer the drug to the baby. aaron, living with tilda, was also doomed to follow the narrative.

I'm going to mention it because I didn't see anyone else talking about it after Lux came out. I'm pretty sure this is because it got overshadowed by the silly animated guy or the meta section of the episode but the only thing I have been able to think about since watching Doctor Who's Lux is the Rock Hudson AIDs reference at the beginning. For a little context, Rock Hudson is a notable figure when it comes to the AIDs epidemic. He was one of the most famous actors at the time and when he tragically passed away from the illness, it opened the eyes of the masses that AIDs was not just "The gay, 'exotic', drug user" virus but something that was an active threat to your 'every day person'. It couldn't be ignored anymore. Obviously there is more nuance to it than I can put into a short Tumblr post so I recommend going and doing research of your own. I personally think that getting a reference to the AIDs crisis into Doctor Who, the family friendly, popular and now Disney produced tv show is monumental even if it was just a small exchange. Including gay characters in a piece of media is one thing but to actually remind people of, you know, that time where gay people (as well as POCs) were antagonised, blamed and treated like threats is a whole other. It's a quiet way of saying fuck you, we won't let people forget the lives lost. Anyways I think that was really cool of Russel T Davis and should have been talked about a lot more.

i’m not religious but i’m thinking about jean’s faith, im thinking about his first good friday and easter outside of the nest. like yes there’s christmas and he experiences that in california first but i feel like that has become a holiday outside of strictly religious reasons whereas good friday and easter are drenched in religious meaning.

we don’t know much about jean’s faith but we do know that he either lost it in the nest or that it was beaten out of him. renee has her relationship with her faith and we know the two texted about their relationship with catholicism while jean was still in the nest. and we can see that maybe he was reconciling with it while talking to her or through talking to her, especially because of their exchange with her cross.

in my mind, renee goes to a three o’clock service on good friday with stephanie as is catholic tradition. but i think jean doesn’t. i don’t think he is there yet with his faith. i think three o’clock comes in california and jean is somewhere sitting out in nature, just quietly thinking. maybe on the beach if he has gone through considerable healing but i am more imagining a hill somewhere. and i think that either cat and him rode there on their bikes or that jeremy drove him but either way, i think they are giving him some space. not far from him but just waiting so that jean can think on his own and work through his thoughts.

and jean, jean is thinking about his faith from his youth. he’s stuck in the memory of mass with elodie standing next to him and of years of darkness with his faith slipping through his fingers. he’s thinking of the meaning of contrition warping and gaining blood and of the story of who was once his god, who may still be his god, being beaten and bloody like him.

i don’t think jean would go to a service even though i know cat, laila, and jeremy offered to go with him to one nearby or even told him of catholic trojans they knew would be going to a service who he could tag along with. but i think he wouldn’t let three o’clock pass unnoticed. he would be out somewhere thinking, reckoning with his faith.

With swap falls on the horizon, I wanna make a post with info about something. This is really long so bear with me.

Not a lot of people nowadays understand terms like “Dead Dove: Do Not Eat” (ao3 ogs you know that all too well) or the true meaning of Proship or Comship. And with me being a serious writer who doesn’t beat around the bush with toxic content, these might be prevalent. I MAY be a bit off with the comship meaning, but it’s the same gist.

First thing: “Dead Dove: Do Not Eat” means that, no matter the creator’s stance on what’s included in a story, it’s taken very seriously. In ye old AO3 days it basically meant “heed the tags cause they’re not an exaggeration”, or whatever the author used to categorize the story was fully intended to be in the story. Like in my “it’s not your fault” story, for example, I was serious about the medical trauma. Silly went through a lot to turn into who he was before being shattered, went through a lot to cause his issues.

Next I wanna properly define Proship and Comship, as it seems not a lot of people actually understand it. Even me, apparently.

Proship doesn’t mean problematic, like I thought previously, it means you are PRO SHIPPING. as in for shipping regardless of its nature. Toxic, wholesome, fluffy or dark. Basically saying people can ship whoever.

A COMshipper is someone who enjoys something regardless of its nature like proship, but supports the toxic or problematic qualities. This makes them complicated, hence the com in comshipper.

Don’t like it? You don’t have to! I stand with Alex on shipping, as I don’t care what you ship in my universe as long as y’all’re happy.

Hi again nonie! This means so much, thank you for your kind words! Ok here goes part two of my Danny Ramirez jewelry deep dive, and quite possible the last part since I don't really think he wears anything else with cultural significance. Though if he does in the future I'll be sure to cover it lol.

Quick disclaimer again, I am talking about the red bracelet's cultural significance from a Mexican perspective, as I am Mexican, though I know Danny is Mexican-Colombian and I'm unaware of any significance the bracelet may have in Colombian culture, so if you are Colombian please feel free to jump in! Also, the sources I could find that back up my understanding of the bracelet are in Spanish, so sorry in advance for that.

For those of you joining us for the first time, this is a continuation of this post where I talked about the significance of Danny's favorite necklace and I mentioned in the tags that I could also talk about his red bracelet, so here we are. The red bracelet in question, seen below at the premiere for the newest Mission Impossible movie, is one I've seen Danny wear pretty much for the entire Brave New World press tour and beyond, but I can't find any evidence of it existing before then (or maybe I'm just not looking hard enough). The bracelet he's wearing right under it looks like it could possibly be an evil eye, but I'm not entirely sure, more on that below.

This bracelet has origins in various cultures and religious practices. In hinduism the color red is considered sacred and is a symbol of good luck and protection. In Christian tradition, a scarlet thread was wrapped around the hands of Pharez and Zarah in Genesis 38. And of course, there is the the red string of fate legend from China.

Now, the way that it is used in Mexico, has more of a spiritual meaning rather than being tied to a specific religion. This is representative of the fact that most Mexicans are of mixed race (Spanish, indigenous, and African are the main ones but also many people have Arabic and Middle Eastern ancestry as well). The red bracelet is used as a way to protect the wearer from bad energy, jealousy, and the evil eye. The bracelet is meant to be worn on the left wrist, or even left ankle, (though Danny is wearing his on his right hand) which is the side that is closer to the heart. It's typically made of some form of string or cord and you're not supposed to take it off as its working to protect your energy at all times. This picture below if of my own red bracelet, though its beaded not woven which isn't super typical, and it has some evil eye charms which you can typically see on red bracelets. I did used to have one made of thread similar to Danny's but it fell off (more on that in a second) and I haven't gotten a new one. I do wear the one below more as an accessory than as a form of protection because the beads would be uncomfortable 24/7.

The bracelet is supposed to hold all of the negative energy that is being thrown at you, which then causes it to wear down, and thus fall off on its own as its supposedly overloaded with bad energy. And once it falls off you're just supposed to leave it alone as picking it back up could cause you to absorb all the negative energy.

Here's another shot of Danny wearing the red bracelet, though I can't find exactly what this event is, I'm pretty sure it's part of the Brave New World press tour. Again, I couldn't find any pictures of him with this bracelet from before then (I just quickly skimmed his instagram and no luck) so I'm guessing it was something he either bought or it was gifted to him right around the beginning of the Brave New World press tour since he (or if he was gifted it, whoever gave it to him) knew he would be experiencing new levels of fame because of his first MCU movie appearance. So I think that Danny is protecting his energy from any negativity that would come with his growing fame.

TLDR: Danny's red bracelet is meant to protect him from bad energy, though it isn't a strictly religious practice it is something that is common in Mexican culture.

I love prehistoric planet so so dearly but i do wish that they made the animals a little less gray.

Especially in cases of animals that are theorized to have sexual display traits like frills or crests?? They put some color on them but compared to real life animals (especially reptiles & birds!) they are just sooo dull.

Nanuqsaurus was especially disappointing for me. Maybe it's just because it's normally depicted as some kind of white color, but i feel having the opportunity for such a unique color on this dinosaur and making it mostly the same grayish brown as so many other dinosaurs in the show was a missed opportunity.

Part of this is definitely the filter and lighting they put over certain scenes to make them look more 'natural' i suppose. I think the male hatzegopteryx's crest is actually very beautiful, but unfortunately due to the lighting of the show it often appears so much more drab and dull than it should be, even in broad daylight .

This is a major reason the corythoraptor design stood out to me, because they were just so bright and beautiful in comparison to everything else in the show! Every time they were on screen i thought it was amazing to get to see these dinosaurs in such vibrant color! This shows that they /can/ depict dinosaurs in this way at least.

And i feel as though the only reason they /were/ blue is because they were based off of the modern cassowaries (one of which i got to see in person recently, they are a GORGEOUS blue. So much brighter than you would expect, heres a picture)

I just feel like, even though i love prehistoric planet, its quest to be overly 'realistic' holds it back in this area at least. The only animals they were willing to make super vibrant were the ones they based on a living similar bird, instead of considering that if the bright colors of a cassowary are possible, there's nothing that says that other bright colors could be possible on other types of dinosaurs.

Especially considering the colors of other birds! If they wanted to base the dino coloring on real life animals, they could have been inspired by other kinds of birds. Just because cassowaries are more 'dinosaur-like' doesnt discount the fact that birds are an incredibly diversely colored and patterned group of animals. There is plenty of potential for other colors in dinosaurs when looking at modern ones.

In fact, i would argue that the fossil evidence we have shows that dinosaurs could have been more brightly colored and distinctly patterned than the ones in the show, at least. While there haven't been bright yellow or blue dinos found, there has been evidence of brighter reds and browns, some greens and purples, iridescent like feathers, and more distinct patterns like stripes on several dinos.

It kind of baffles me how they were able to make leaps like the dreadnoughtus air sacs, but they weren't willing to make the dinosaurs a little brighter? I mean, so much paleo art nowadays depicts dinos in vibrant colors, i dont think it would be too much of a stretch.

Tldr, i love prehistoric planet and i think it has done a lot for the perception and depiction of dinosaurs as real life animals, i just wish that it didnt associate looking 'realistic' with 'looking gray' as much as it does, especially considering the amount of potential traits for sexual display dinosaurs had, and the colors of living birds and fossil evidence of dinosaur colors.

What weird nobel idiocy is this? Also it does not feel like the show is framing Fujisawa as abusive despite the sexual assault in the previous episode? Why does it feel like the show is being way more gentle and understanding of Fujisawa than Kaori. The scene between Fujisawa and Sei used up all the screen time instead of showing us why Hagiwara and Sei want to be together?

This show did not land the ending for me.

i will forever mourn the fact that we never got first meeting tales...... even though there probably would only be, like, two of them that would make sense to have, that being asra and julian, of course. actually. maybe three if you include muriel, and i'll squeeze in lucio and nadia for the hell of it.

there's part of me that is a little happy about it i guess because it leaves room for a lot of creative freedom and you kinda get the chance to workshop your own idea of what the first meetings were like.

in asra's case, as far as i remember, you get a pretty decent outline of how it went (9 years before game events, day of the masquerade, asra's telling fortunes behind the shop, nadia arrives, the hustle and bustle causes mc to get crowded into asra's booth, and i believe that's really it) but i would've just loved for there to be more! that tale dropping would've broken the arcana tag for a few hours, i'm telling you.

the julian one would've been a good tone shift, considering you're supposed to have met him for the first time when you seek out the clinic during the plague. we could see what vesuvia was seriously like in the midst of the plague, maybe allude to The Argument™, finally get a good idea of what the relationship was between them back then since we really don't know much, and it might be too much for just a tale, but maybe even the point where mc catches the plague themselves.

i could probably go on about all the things we could've gotten for this silly game for actual years, but i think this is probably what i'm most passionate about
