workin a little on my urban fantasy workplace comedy thing i'm writing, and i decided early on that it had to be masquerade-less, all the weird fantasy and horror and stuff known etc
and like i was stuck on stuff for a while but something is clicked in my head when i stopped thinking things like, 'how has the government legislated about vampires, how are werewolves treated in society, do ghosts have personhood rights' and started thinking things like 'ok, a bus has eaten some people. what absolutely useless statement has local government put out? in what ways do ppl complain about this the way they complain about unfilled potholes?'
and rly that is. helping.
there's plenty of stuff out there that does the extended racism metaphor, big level etc etc. i gotta get smaller and weirder or this story will never get off the ground.

fuck it I've had enough. I had an intro to cultural anthropology class a semester ago, but looking at recent bullshit in Florida, I have a few things to say:
I'm sick of people treating culture like it's some chunk of earth.
It's neither something you can wage war on nor fight for. It is not a finite amount of substances that is adulterated with new introductions. It isn't something precious in the same way a piece of jewelry or what have you; not preserved safe by being put in a locked box. Cultures are not the current models of bludgeon that groups of people impose upon others. One's culture, in total, is not an "immovable cornerstone" of anything made by humans. It is not in any way like stone.
It did not exist before there were people to possess it. A culture is something we've created amongst each other. In short, it is a conversation. one of beliefs, institutions, and knowledge; spoken by the beliefs and actions of it's participants. It is a conversation that you have a voice in too.
If you forget anything I say before or since, please do not forget that.

"people hating new tumblr jokes is so stupid and funny lol" well maybe people arent fond of being bombarded by untagged unreality for a month straight. maybe people are angry at this current trend for a reason. maybe people are sick of unreality never being taken seriously and dont like that they have to log into a minefield of untagged posts that could potentially trigger them. the same thing happened with that "its me or the ps5" post and people were made fun of for hating that too. like fuckin cmon now man

#Just read a disquieting rumour that my ex was faking being indigenous.#Which...#I mean#I didn't see the evidence#All that I know is that this call-out post went up about 9 months ago in indigenous facebook groups#and my ex's entire online presence was apparently immediately scrubbed afterwards#which i'm only learning just now because honestly i've broken off all contact with them and with the rest of their friends#but like...it kinda wouldn't surprise me?#but the thing was they were an extremely militant decolonization activist#like they would go on long angry rants about appropriation and 'pretendians' and how terrible they were#but also like...they didn't really identify as indigenous until i think a year or so into our relationship?#and at the time i just figured ''whatever they're reconnecting with their roots''#(I'm not indigenous; I don't know how these things work)#but then they started speaking sporadically in a fake accent when around other Native people and going on about how 'Rez' they were#and like...'Rez'. Mate.#I know for a fact that you grew up in a $10 million house in Hawaii#(at least I assume it was a fact)#And they were a big fan of using social justice arguments and language as a pretext for abusing me.#And if it was a lie then. Well. It would be very much in character for them let me just say.#Like they lied constantly to other people. I just...I guess I assumed that I was an exception?#Or that they wouldn't lie about the big stuff. Especially when they acted so vociferously angry about it.#But yeah. Trying to assume the absolute most marginalised social identity they can for clout sounds very much like something they would do.

I saw another post saying that "fun" fundraisers are fucked up because they take a serious and tragic issue and turn it into an event (the example used was a dance party for a free palestine) and idk how to tell yall this but thats a really common and effective fundraising tactic
people are going to want to go out and have fun in the midst of terrible tragic things. these events are effective because they cater to 1) organizers and grievers who are really fucking tired and need to let off steam, 2) people who were going to donate anyway but now it doesnt feel like as much of a financial burden, and 3) people who only care on the most shallow level/don't care at all, but were going to go out anyway and it just happens to fund a cause
at the end of the day, money going to a good cause is money going to a good cause. dance parties, benefit concerts, game nights, walk/runs, etc etc are all effective fundraisers. and if they are organized right, they can also be a powerful way to educate and act as a bridge to more "serious" action
I agree that it definitely does seem jarring to have "free palestine" and "party" in the same sentence, but there's a reason why they happen and its a respected organizing tactic

god i can't fucking stand people who come into a community having an issue with someone and decide to make it everyone else's problem. as someone who's been both the victim and the server owner forced to sort through their dirty laundry - quit trying to guilt mods into banning people you don't like. quit asking them to be the judge and jury of your interpersonal issues. you are on the internet. you have a block button. use it. the world doesn't fucking revolve around you.

sorry if this makes me an evil bigot but people arent entitled to mindlessly follow your beliefs or tolerate bad behaviour/attitudes just because you have more oppressed lables than them.
People should be able to lable idiocy and cruelty when they they see it and being a minority doesnt make it so you cant use your hardships to be manipulative, spout vile horrible things or say things that are simply not true
Its honestly why sj tumblr is such a toxic mess. Its ran by crybullies who despise honest communication and constructive community building. Its just 'im automatically right when i tell someone ~less oppressed~ than me anything and they cant question me. If they do theyre speaking over me and oppressing me by disagreeing"
'Listen to x voices' should mean not automatically disregarding a female, gay, black, asian etc persons views, and not that people should grovel and defer to others because they said so.

Really loved Mexico, even after the taxi people scammed us and tried charging $2500 on our credit cards 🥲
Thank goodness Citibank security is very good. Within 10 minutes of the people’s charges, they shut off my card.
After speaking with a Mexican real estate agent and lawyer, we decided Mexico is not the place where we’d feel comfortable buying land for a future meditation center. It’s just the Wild Wild West down there in a lot of ways. But my gosh - we LOVED the northern Quintana Roo region ✨ And honestly felt super safe EXCEPT at the airport because they have a crazy mafia (like if you try to order an Uber at the airport, the taxi people with literally attack the car). Bali was really bad with their taxi mafia and ATM scams as well. Would honestly say a super unpopular opinion is that Bali is fucking awful in terms of financial safety / governmental control and I would never go back (Bali belly is also the worst illness I’ve ever had outside of an HG pregnancy).
Anyways - love Eastern MX, but be careful at the airport 😭
Back in Miami and it feels both really lovely and heavy to be back in the USA. Kevin and I immediately just became more mentally involved in the war in the M/E today and it really just feels completely fucked.
I’m sad that the world has honestly never been much better than it is right now. Im sad that my children will more than likely know a world just like this one when they’re (G-d willing) my age and older.
I’m just exhausted. Every couple days I think about the parents and the babies (on BOTH sides) and I fall apart.

Every single person who dies cuz they lack necessities is a murder. Scarcity a' basic necessities only exists now cuz capitalists deliberately create it.
Post-scarcity basic necessities will work both within the US and internationally. There ain't no excuse.
Time ta' stop those with blood on their hands. Organize! Unionize!
