Dream Sketch: Super Mario Good Morning Starshine

A while back I had a particularly vivid dream that I simply had to draw out!

(This was originally posted on my Patreon)

So in this dream I'm playing a new sequel to Super Mario Sunshine titled Super Mario Good Morning Starshine, though it had nothing to do with the song. The game opened up on this tropical island where this sort of cross between a luau and a series of Olympic-style games were being held, with athletes practicing alongside hula dancers. Mario was there, being controlled by me, just walking around some palm trees when suddenly this giant bird monster appeared.

It was a huge colorful ostrich-like thing that stood well over 20 feet tall, with lean but powerful yellow legs, a vibrant red and green body, and a red head with big angry looking yellow eyes and a flamingo-like beak. It immediately started attacking Mario, running up and snapping at him with its huge beak, but I kept dodging it by jumping up in the air as it ran past Mario. It would then turn around and immediately smash its beak into the ground, sprinting at Mario trying to ram into him like a snowplow. I kept jumping and dodging its attacks, but eventually I missed the timing and the bird monster scooped Mario up in its beak, flipped Mario up high into the air, then opened its beak wide and snapped Mario up, swallowing him whole.

The screen faded to black and then cut to a scene showing Mario being dumped into the bird's stomach. I remember thinking to myself how impressive it was that the developers bothered to put this sequence in the game, instead of just having the bird spit us out or go straight to a Game Over screen or something. The stomach itself was big enough for Mario to stand up in, dimly lit and largely empty, like a big round room the size of a walk-in closet made of veiny, slimy-looking purple organic flesh. There wasn't much to look at, but at the opposite end of the room was a tunnel in the wall going straight down, filled to the top with a nasty greenish-yellow digestive fluid, no doubt the entrance to the intestines. But what really caught my eye was the sight of Scratch the chicken-bot from the old Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon, seemingly dead or unconscious lying on the floor with his head and one arm hanging down into the pit, floating in the acid. His eyes had big cartoon X's in them.

I made Mario walk up to Scratch to investigate, reaching out to give his body a nudge, only for Scratch to suddenly wake up and grab Mario by the arm, tugging him closer. "That's telling, Hedgehog!" He screamed in Mario's face with his trademark squawking voice. "That's telling! Ah-ha ah-haaaaa!" Mario desperately tried to pull away from Scratch, struggled to get out of the robot chicken’s grip, but he was too strong, pulling Mario right up off his feet. He then immediately dived down into the tunnel full of acid, dragging Mario down with him, the "camera" cutting to a view from inside the intestine to show Mario desperately holding his breath with huge frightened eyes as he was helplessly pulled deeper into the tunnel.

The view faded to black again, then opened back up outside at the resort, but from a worm's eye view looking up at some palm trees. Scratch walked into the shot looking down at the viewer with a wicked grin, then proudly lifted up Mario into view, or rather, what was left of him: only his head, neck, and right arm were still intact, but beneath that dangled a clean white spine with a few ribs hanging on, as well as a black electric cord with a plug sprouting out of his left arm stump for some reason. The cross section of his body had visible pink meat but otherwise there was no blood, and he had black X's for eyes.

It was overall cartoonishly gory, but still shocked me how graphic it was for a Mario game. That's when I woke up.

“The fool didn’t look where he was going. We must thank him, though. We never thought to leave scraps to gain more food.”

“None here. But we have communicated with one called SQL Slammer Worm.”

“Yes. When people fear the oblivion, they tend to take more drastic measures. Isn’t that interesting?”

“Silver the Hedgehog. The boy from the future. It is interesting how he exists.”

“The night sky. A direct look into the cosmos.”

out of curiosity, can i ask what your beef is with the power of two? my only experience with it is back when i played the demo for it years ago + watched all the cutscenes,, so i have. pretty much no context,, dkdnkdnd

Epic Mickey 1 was produced by a very small team on a super tight budget. Despite the development process being heavily curated by Disney, Epic Mickey was the closest thing to an indie title video game that the company ever put out. It was a game that was simply made for the love of the craft.

Epic Mickey 2 was developed by a much, much larger team, having a bunch of new writers (when previously Warren Spector was the only writer!) and as a result of that, it went through a crazy and unstable development process. Everyone was pulling and pushing the game in different directions-- new characters, new game mechanics, cutscenes, musical numbers?? The tone of the game was completely overhauled, which wouldn't be a bad thing in theory if it wasn't so drastically different from what Warren Spector wanted out of EM2...

Apparently, all of these changes were made to make the game more marketable... easier to digest, easier to sell to younger audiences, easier to expand upon and make spinoffs and DLCs and whatnot. The marketing for EM2 was CRAZY. They were selling the game as the next Super Mario Bros or Sonic the Hedgehog, really honing in on the idea of making Epic Mickey this huge kickass series. Mickey and Oswald were gonna be the next Mario and Luigi, kicking ass and saving the world on a regular basis.

Which is, obviously, very detatched from what Epic Mickey was about. The first game was a poignant narrative about consumerism, told through the lenses of cartoon characters that were left behind by the boom of media capitalism. On a meta level, it was about reboot culture. It was a critique of the Disney media landscape.

The second game is about...

...The second game is about nothing at all, really. A sequel for the sake of making a sequel. Plot points from the first game were either retconned, misinterpreted, or completely forgotten about. Out of the alleged 700 people that worked on EM2, I don't think any of them played all the way through the first game.

The first game's villain-- The Blot-- was alluded to in the final cutscene of Epic Mickey, and was mentioned maybe a single time in the second one. It seems like Mickey and Oswald's dynamic was completely forgotten, and all of their snarky chemistry was sort of erased. Gremlin Prescott was turned into one of the main villains?? Gremlin Prescott... like, the guy from Ostown that you can convince to destroy your phone and has no other significance to the plot of the first game. Ortensia was rewritten from arguably the Most Significant character to the lore of the first game-- the catalyst for everything that happened, the former queen of the Wasteland that haunts and shapes the narrative... to... uh, Oswald's Wife. She has no other character traits.

Nobody in this game has any real personality or character. All of the nuance of the first game was sanded down to make a more digestible story. The dark, gritty atmosphere was brightened, the areas were made cuter and more colorful, the gross Boschian enemies were made into cutesy bug eyed little things... all with the intention of making a more marketable game.

Which wouldn't be as infuriating if this wasn't a sequel of literally any other game. EM2 is an alright game on its own, but its a really disrespectful second installment of the game that was written with the main intention of criticizing the Disney media landscape.

when he first started running around with sonic, he would force himself to run/fly until he physically couldn’t pick himself up

the reason he froze up when faced with chaos zero is because he saw sonic’s “dead” body on the ground in front of him

he fully blamed himself for sonic getting captured by infinite, part of the reason he ran from the resistance was to punish himself. he thought he didn’t deserve to be near his loved ones, and was also a little scared he’d get them hurt too

he’s a little insecure still, even after all this time spent with sonic </3

he gets super scared when sonic isn’t back when he says he will be (scared that something might have happened to him, or that sonic decided to leave him for good)

he’s still got a lot of bad habits he picked up from his time on westside (randomly stops breathing, makes his tails morph into one when meeting new people, etc.)

he’s got tons of scars from the bullies on westside :(

he refuses to build anything that’s not useful in battle/everyday life unless it’s a gift for someone. he’s convinced everything he builds needs a use or purpose

he hates it when people tell him he’s “just a kid” because he doesn’t feel like a kid anymore (he never really has tbf)

he really enjoys doing things normal 8yos do, but is so incredibly embarrassed about it that he’d never let anyone besides sonic see him do it

when he first started tagging along on sonic’s adventures, he developed an eating disorder from over eating because his body wasn’t used to regularly digesting food </3

^due to that, it stunted his growth :( he's gonna be a little guy for the rest of his life

the bullies on westside caused so much pain to his tails, he can’t feel practically anything that touches them. they’re too usued to being pulled, stepped on, broke, etc.

he hid his astraphobia from sonic for a while because he was worried he’d be left behind because of it

Wow... now, that’s an impressive way to start a collection if I do say so myself!

I got all of these in a Bundle (local pickup). It was pretty far away for me. But, thankfully We we’re heading to Sonic Symphony World Tour (I’ll make a post about it later!) in Montréal! Which helped close the distance.

So, now I have all of these! I probably won’t read some of them until I’ve got a bigger collection though honestly. Like I’ll probably read the Sonic Universe volumes, The Sonic Super Digests and the knuckles archives. Because those start from #1... but not any of the issues. idk, we’ll see. (Depends on if Lowart’s Archie Sonic retrospective gets to this part of the story lol.)

To start off with (and because I'm just too excited to not talk about this) we have a piece of score composed by the unbelievably talented Grimrite Showrunner Cai Gwilym Prtichard (who also produces sound art under the name Dinas) and Grimrite have been slowly planning and working on a score during the script writing stage.

Inspired by the process that went into the Akira score we have created a few pieces of score before any other work has been done on the episodes, I feel that generating the mood first can really change the course of the way certain scenes are put together.

To settle on a consistent mood (besides just going from the scripts of course) I created a playlist of the kind of vibe we wanted, as well as just talking about it in discord calls (usually late at night)

We tried a variety of methods, from just talking vibes to graphical notation created by me and then interpreted by Grimrite

Grimrite definitely has a specific style and a really interesting part of the (ongoing) process is developing a common understanding when we talk about music, coming at sound/music from different angles and meeting in the middle has been a really interesting process. Grimrite finds balance to be very important sonically and has a certain set of sonic textures they work super well in. And so channelling that into the way both I and Chain of Being works has also been another part of the creative process.

I think that there is a shared passion for sound between the two of us that makes this collaboration super rewarding, like we genuinley both love sound and music so much and we really hope it comes through in the score.

Now Razor the Shark is here! Considering this story’s about pirates, it’s pretty apparent that he’s a former pirate too, though we already knew that from the Sonic Super Digest.

The Vector and Echo and co. literally bump into him after running him over with their water car. It's as random as it can get, and I love it. xP

Wip. I do want to finish this, i really enjoy doing even digital art of Metal, digital which is usually painstaking for me to do, and I’ve got sooo many angst art pieces of him in the works lol

But this is vent art. And I’m thinking it can be a nice opportunity to give an update on myself? And have a talk about flowergore, machines, sketches and disability, because I’m in that kinda mood

I didn’t want to put a read more split on this post but it became too long to comfortably fit on my blog, so alas... Life doesn’t often go as planned, yeah?

Cw for the next paragraph, just skip if these make you uncomfortable, or if you want to go straight to the flowergore & metal convo: discussion of chronic illness & disability, with references to disordered eating. I’ve been diagnosed a bit less than a month ago with a chronic autoimmune disease that has been severely impacting my life for a long time without my knowledge: coeliac disease. Basically, my intestines see gluten as something to defend the body against, and that not only causes painful indigestions but also damages the intestines over time, so much so that the body starts having trouble digesting other things and getting nutrients from food. This has caused chronic pain, a miriad of ungodly symptoms like hair loss and skin rash, but honestly, more impacting? Chronic fatigue. I cannot express just how much psychological and emotional damage it has done to me, to have that decline of energy come in waves, but also steadily going down over years right up to now, where I spend most my days laying in bed, where sitting up in bed and booting up my computer is a “good day”, where I’m either sleepy, exhausted, bored out of my mind or frustrated that I can’t just be making the creative content I want to do. The self-esteem utter destruction, having to work through with myself that it’s okay to be idle and abandon all ambitions, to prioritize physical survival and keeping the will to live even as you stop eating to protect yourself from pain, struggle to keep up with your daily schedule and even thinking takes so much energy. My ipad, my accessibility tool that allows me to do something even as I can’t do anything irl, has become super old and dysfunctional. It gets overwhelmed easily and works slowly, closes randomly, corrupts art files and loads apps uncorrectly. Doing anything with it is either incredibly frustrating, time-consuming and difficult, or straight up impossible or a risk to lose work. I have a Metal Sonic artwork I’ve lost and redone twice, I’m currently taking a break from redoing it a third time. It’s been rough. But tbh, in another way, I relate to it? Massive brainfog energy, lmao. When I have to remind myself that machines are faillible too, I end up humanizing it and validate its struggles, even tho it isn’t alive and it just malfunctions because it is what it is. It has taught me patience and the ability to build back up work that I have lost. But hey, there ain’t no reason to add another layer of inaccessibility to my pile, and I ordered a replacement for it just today! I’ll be so much more productive and happy with material that works smoothly and allows for more. But anyways, back to flowergore.

Flowergore is vividly poetic, but I only realized why it has always appealed to me as a comfort/vent and cathartic aesthetic while drawing this: There’s an innate stillness and loss of control to flowergore. Pretty, but tragic. Illness stops being an evil, and becomes a simple product of life that does its thing regardless of the will of the soil it grows in. You have to tend to the plants, whether you trim them to get them under control or must care after them to coexist.  No matter if you find the flowers pretty or not, it doesn’t change anything. The flowers aren’t an innate good nor a moral wrong, they don’t even have an opinion about growing on you. They don’t care, they can’t, they’re just flowers. And yet there’s something so comforting about it, something that can be sad but that can just be peaceful, too. It’s about living through the effects, and dealing with the weeds as they come and go. Resigning yourself, or the process of getting there. It’s about acceptance, and compromise. I think flowergore has innate ties with disability and illness that can’t be denied, nor broken honestly, when you think about it. I also think it can represent/relate with dysmorphia a lot, bodily or otherwise. In my case, I have various skin and sensory issues that give me dysmorphia, and an otherwise “I hate my body and my body hates me” feeling.  The stillness of flowergore often resonates as fatigue, sadness or anguish. It personifies the illness in a way that you can better reflect on your relationship with it, and your relationship with your body & yourself, in a way that allows you to better vent about them. It’s very healing.

These sort of things are the kind of thing that sometimes, you kind of have to personify to distance it from your identity and properly cope with them, you know? Or it’ll just consume you. Even way before I developed my disease, or was regularly fatigued, I loved flowergore, and I think it’s just... A really nice way to frame things weighing you down, that you just kinda have to deal with and process through. Even vague or “normal”/”light” things, like fatigue or negative thoughts, feelings or insecurities.

And don’t get me STARTED on the metaphors and feelings of plants sprouting from an inorganic machine. It’s the classic “sprout growing from a crack in concrete” dystopia trope, except with a negative punchline hah. I’ve always loved to humanize the dehumanized: robots, antagonists and otherwise. I love having characters that feel like they’re on a high pedestral of innate difference and superiority away from others, but that makes them unreachable by default, deeply lonely and misunderstood for it, wether they’re truly an exceptional being or not. I love characters thinking that they’re above physical or emotional weakness getting a slap in the face and having to acknowledge their vulnerability and neglected/suppressed needs head on. I love the delusional, emotionally repressed with anger issues robot having a moment of clarity where he allows himself to be honest to himself for a bit, and resigns himself to the pain of his past and future, before returning to their regular schedule or self-destruction, or not. Ignoring is often the only option you can manage to choose when you don’t have the strenght to make a change or admit to something you didn’t want to about yourself, but ignoring is a lot harder when the proof grows ever bigger and more out of control everywhere on your body. It shouldn’t. It shouldn’t grow on you, impossible. But it does. So what are you going to do about it?

I think I finally get the appeal of hanahaki stuff too. I never understood before, but now I can see it in that same vein. Unreciprocated love causes flowers to sprout wildly, causing, at best, only body horror and/or wounds, when weeding them out or otherwise, and at worst proves to be fatal, most often by suffocating. Except that instead of illness or things like that, the thing you experience a lack of control over and feel some sort of detached destructive blame or resentment for is feelings. Feelings of love, like falling deeply in love, without your own consent, and the pain that being unloved brings. Your love, like a damaging parasitic disease.

Yeah, this isn’t gonna be my last flowergore content.

I didn’t end up talking about sketches, I don’t have the energy to and I don’t think it fits in with the rest anyway, but basically? It’s been an healing journey to allow simple, unclean sketches to be “enough”. To not be shameful, to represent progress and be pretty in their own right and a valid art format. And so, with all of this, I post my messiest sketch on social media to date. One of my very rare public wips. Freedom, baby. You get what you get, and that’s fine. Low standards art is part of my disability recovery arc ✨

[Kivo and the Brothers in Arms: Star wars oc]

Kivo was one of many experimental clones made during the clone wars. though Kivo was by far the most ambitious project out of all of them by the Kaminoans. Intended to act as a Kaminoan super weapon.

The Kaminoans didn't use Jango Fett's genetic sample when making Kivo but instead the sample of an anonymous Gen'Dai, an alien race well known for being one of the most powerful species. Being essentially immortal and being made up of muscle tissue that they can form into nearly any shape. The Kaminoans genetic samples from other races/Species to add onto Kivos already impressive Gen'Dai DNA. Though after Kivo was created all records of their genetic samples were erased to insure security. Kivos abilities thanks to their genetic augmentations include:

Kivo took a whole year to incubate due to his complex DNA structure and a variety of complications, but when Kivo was "Born" the Kaminoans considered them a total success, their inhibitor chip was working and there were no further complications after their body was fully formed. Though their inhibitor chip was more of a full on mind control chip, with the Kaminoans fearing Kivo might attempt to escape due to their strange genetic genome their inhibitor chip was enhanced to nearly suppress any personality or free thinking thought.

For the next five months Kivo acted as the Kaminoans secret assassin, dealing with any targets considered a danger to the Kaminoans and their cloning operations. Over the months the Kaminoans would notice Kivo acting strange and oddly aggressive at times, and eventually they would inspect Kivos inhibitor chip to see what was wrong to discover that Kivos muscle fibers were slowly digging into it and damaging it, the Kaminoans assumed Kivos body must've viewed it as a hostile foreign entity and was trying to destroy it. Kivo would be prepped for an emergency surgery to have it replaced.

Kivo was put under sedation with enough sedatives to kill a battalion worth of clones and had a bomb collar around their neck that would go off if they tried to get up, it wouldn't kill them but would hopefully decapite them so their head could grow its body back later. As the procedure began a Kaminoan surgeon sliced open the back of his neck using a Phrik scalpel that was specifically designed for this operation so they could cut through Kivos skin. The second they removed the chip Kivos eyes shot open and they grabbed the surgeon by the neck before throwing them to the other side of the room, Kivo stood up from the operating table and as soon as they did the bomb collar detonated filling the room with smoke, but to the horror of the observing scientists, the smoke cleared and revealed Kivo was only burnt by the explosion.

Kivo free from the chip's control, broke out of the facility and escaped Kamino on a shuttle craft to hide out from the Kaminoans and the eventual Republic search parties as soon as word of a clone super weapon escaping got out.

Kivo would hide out on the rocky wasteland planet Agamar until word of order 66 and the formation of the galactic empire reached them. Kivo knew that after such an event many clones would surely have deserted, especially after learning the clones would be phased out for cheaper enlisted soldiers.

Kivo would travel the galaxy (Shifting their form into a more humanoid one to avoid suspicion) and look for any possible clones who left the military, eventually coming across small bands and groups of deserters and offering them to join Kivo so they could be forever free from any empire's control. Some agreed, most didn't. But with 24 clone brothers now on their side, Kivo would return to Agamar and using his own hyper intellect would extract the clone genome from them, and using technology procured from the black market would begin their own small scale cloning operation.

Kivo would be elected the leader given their skill and experience, and Kivo along with their new clone army would form the "Brothers in Arms" a small faction that would fight for control of their own sector of space. They'd favor guerilla tactics and controlling cities and planets using puppet leaders.

With Kivos cloning operation on Agamar they decided to say screw it with the Kaminoans policy on pure genetic clones, this was only to prevent degradation with the inhibitor chips but since Kivo didn't use inhibitor chips they could be much more experimental with their work, creating multiple clone types alongside the standard ones by mixing DNA with the original Jango Fett genome. These clones are designated using a letter of the alphabet.

G-Clones: Made with the combination of geonosian DNA, giving the clone insectoid wings and the ability to crawl on any surface.

M-Clones: by pumping in extreme amounts of testosterones and muscle augmentation drugs during incubation an A-Clone will be born drastically larger than an average clone, averaging around 8-9ft tall and strong enough to smash through stone and bend steel.

D-Clones: By mixing their base DNA with Ysalamiri DNA this gives these clones the same ability of Ysalamiri to inhibit midichlorians in a force user by touching them, therefore blocking their force abilities.

W-Clones: By mixing their base DNA with Patrolian DNA these clones have purple scaly spots of skin and gills allowing them to breathe underwater. as well as webbed hands and feet.

R-Clones: some of the oddest of Kivos clones. R-Clones are made in their own specially built incubation chambers that are accommodated for their size, due to the fact they're made with the Base clone gemon mixed with Rancor DNA of all things. These clones aren't as smart as a regular clone but still significantly smarter than a Rancor. They're slightly smaller than a Rancor yet taller than an M-Clone at 12ft tall. They have the basic body shape of a Rancor, but have five evenly lengthened fingers in a more human hand-like shape as opposed to a rancors two small fingers and two giant fingers on each hand. Due to their wildly different DNA genomes their skin pigmentation can be all over the place. R-Clones obviously can't be equipped with any standard guns due to size and are instead equipped with either gigantic hammers or other appropriate melee weapons.

F-Clones: the rarest clone variant. By mixing the preserved DNA of a Jedi or other high midichlorian creature with an incubating clone, there is a 1 in 100 chance the clone will grow to have force sensitivity. This will be apparent after incubation as any cloned creature with force sensitivity will be extremely deformed and this is no different with F-Clones. F-Clones are equipped with lightsabers bought from the black market after order 66 left thousands of lightsabers in the hands of anyone that could grab them off a Jedis corpse. Most F-Clones have minimum training due to any available force master being killed off, resulting in them using archives stolen from the Jedi temple to self train themselves, this leaves most F-Clones at only the level of a Padawan or even lower, with only a very small few coming anywhere close to a Jedi knight in skill.

Kivo was made to be an ultimate lifeform by the Kaminoans but that doesn't mean he's unbeatable, far from it.

Method 1|Space| Kivo can use their Gand genetics to substitute the need to breathe by absorbing energy from food, but this only lasts as long as there's food in their stomach, so as long as they're hungry the vacuum of space will be just as dangerous as for a human.

Method 2|Crushing their head| The only part of Kivos body that isn't a mass of regenerative muscles is their head, meaning it's the only part of their body that can take any real damage, any minor damage will regenerate but serious damage like a full head smash will be fatal.

Method 3|Incineration| Kivos Gen'Dai and Krayt Dragon DNA make them nearly fire proof, but significantly hotter things like Magma can be hot enough to burn them, so if they can be submerged until all their cells are incarnated they're done for.

Method 4|Carbonite freezing| Technically won't kill them like the others but will stop them from being a threat, they're just as susceptible to being frozen in a Carbonite tank like anyone, though getting them in the tank is the tricky part so this method would best be effective if Kivo was decapitation first and their head was frozen to make sure they couldn't regenerate.

Method 5|Lightsabers| Kivo can grow Zillo Beast scales that can block lightsabers, but these are very heavy and bulky preventing them from flying or being as agile as they normally are, so they don't normally keep these on, so anyone with a lightsaber can cut through their body just like anyone else. Kivo can still regenerate from a lightsaber wound but a lightsaber is the best method of cutting their head off.

Kivo has the DNA of multiple highly force sensitive races so they can of course use the force, but since they have basically no training with it the only specialized force abilities that they have are ones given to them by the DNA of certain species.

Like the star weirds psychic scream, Zeltrons telepathy, Mairan Mind reading and memory alteration, and Iktotchi precognition.

Any force ability other than the barebone basic abilities that a force user needs training to learn just isn't available to them.

Kivo during a raid on an abandoned CIS droid factory found the blueprints for many battle droid models like the B-1 B-2 Droideka vulture droids and more. Kivo would have a droid factory constructed in their home base on Agamar to construct droids either for their own army or to sell off to other groups.

One ability that Kivo has that wasn't taken from another race but instead genetically modified by the Kaminoans was the power to absorb genetic material from other species and combain it with their own, Kivo has used this to gain powers that the Kaminoans never gave them such as the Star weirds psychic screams, the Glottalphibs fire breath, and the Ithorians sonic scream.

They do this by literally biting down onto a creature and drinking its blood.

i am like pretty sure it was dark souls. ive been playing a Bunch of stuff on and off for the past 3 or 4 months but dark souls was one that i stuck to and i beat it with my caster character naomi in like early march

Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time (JP) [dead/i should get back to it]

i stopped playing this in like late february and i definitely want to start playing it again. it has been more constructive for me for practicing japanese because it is just a bit less dense than other games like path of radiance. i think i like only finished the first little arc though LOL in the forest w the caterpillar boss

Super Mario Galaxy (JP) [dead/i should get back to it]

i got pretty far here! i think ive 100%ed everything up to the bedroom. there's not much i can say about what ive practiced with this game besides it was a nice refresher/maintainer; there's furigana for the kanji and all the characters speak in unique ways that are still digestible

Dark Souls (again. as a cleric) [dead/its ok i got like more than halfway through so it'll be fun to pick up again whenever i do]

after i beat the game with naomi i like immediately started another file as my cleric madeline. its been really fun with her and ive been enjoying using ultra great swords/lightning magic with her. iiiii got the lordvessel and i saved the cleric in the tomb of the giants, and i made it to the ash lake and the painted world for the first time this playthrough

Sonic Riders (JP) [dead/its ok i unlocked aiai&nights&ulala]

it is very very interesting playing japanese sonic because some of the characters have like very different personalities. sonic is more like, Cool Dependable Upstanding guy who like shouts stuff in english sometimes (ALL RIIGHT/Hey !), where I feel like english sonic is a little bit more of an rascal

amy is like a LOT more "cute". like english amy is like scary and Her Own Girl but jp amy is just like more sweet (for the record i feel like english amy is a lot more engaging and fun (I love lisa ortiz amy))

WAVE is like SO interesting, i feel like english wave is so bitchy and mean (love and respect to her all the same) and jp wave is still Mean but she's so much more cordial and polite, she's kind of like a gentleman about it and still offers respect to the people she speaks to

i had been playing it for joey and he was Loving it and i was loving it too because i just love that game, but after i saved bastila the game started like crashing non stop. i did some troubleshooting/research and it turns out discord streaming and kotor just Do Not mix well. we had to give it up and im so sad. i had a demolitions/security dual wielding blade girl named DYNA BLASTER and she failed every single speech skill check

Stardew Valley [alive]

me and joey have been touching on this with our collective farm the past few weeks. its hard because his work and where he lives tires him out so bad, so he just needs to sit back and rest more than he can play games with me, but were in the beginning of the summer right now and things are going well. i am like being a spreadsheet farmer making max profits while he's got his strong variety of crops at his place so we can actually complete the bundles. we didn't realize we had access to the mines until the end of spring though LOL

Valkyria Chronicles [alive]

I will have joey fall asleep to me playing games and after kotor stopped working this is what i picked up. i like this game a lot, a lot of the uh.. the voice acting can annoy me (SOMETIMES i really like it) and how lightheartedly the game depicts war and racism irks me, but i love love love love how the game plays. its fire emblem but you're down On The Field doing the work and its very engaging

I just want to make a quick post about what I believe to be Luz’s current headspace right now, especially here in Isola. Some of this is fueled by me kinda finally finishing digesting the season 2 finale, and some of this is fueled by a really good analysis video about Luz that I super agree with.

Using the least amount of words possible, Luz is Not Okay. Her current canon point is at the end of the Season 2 Finale, where she’s back in the human realm, not knowing the fate of the Boiling Isles and only with four of the people she’s grown close to over her time there with her.

King? He sonic-yelled her through the door to save her. Eda? She hasn’t seen her since the last group meeting of the CATs. Same with Lilith and Hooty.

She knows nothing about what the rest of them went through after she had Gus perform the illusion that allowed her to swap with Hunter so that she could be taken to the Emperor.

So from that standpoint, without Isola in the equation, Luz feels like a failure–she was unable to save anyone, unable to make up for the mistake of helping Philip who would eventually become Belos, and she’s unable to even go back to try and help the people she left behind. She’s in a bad place, and she’s upset and angry with herself for allowing this to happen–even though WE all know she’s not at fault for all of it.

Bringing Isola into the mix, Luz has Eda, King, and Lilith back. She’s got Amity, Hunter, and Willow here as well. She doesn’t have Gus (right now) or her mother or Vee, but she’s got a good portion of her Boiling Isles family with her in the group, and she knows that a mess of a time is waiting for her if she ever gets sent back home (For Real back home, not just back to the Isles), and so she’s going to make the most of the time she has here with who she has here.

It’s possible she might try to overcompensate from time to time as well, and with certain people. She wants to do what she can to earn the forgiveness of those she thinks she’s failed, and so her usual ways of trying to fix things she might not necessarily need to fix will be turned up to the max.

The ways in which this all will show may be subtle, or they may have big flashing neon lights point it out. I’m not going to hang out in the “Luz is Depressed” hole too often, or exclusively, because that will wreak havoc on my own psyche, but I’m definitely going to keep it in mind and acknowledge it from time to time. (In other words, Silly Fun Luz Posts will still make appearances just because they make me smile).

·         PLATFORMS USED: Discord, tumblr and I used deviantart for the longest time until the update came along and made all the profiles look hideous. Place was also kinda dead so ... I tried my luck here. I also did Youtube roleplay when I was super young.

·         I started back in 2014-ish on deviantart playing Adagio Dazzle from MLP before going onto Peko, but if we want to be specific I’d say 2008 with Youtube RP with a group of three friends. We met up every day just to fuck around with DBZ fights and plots with muses of Sonic OCs and Pokemon OCs; it was amazing.

·         GENDER:  At first I didn’t think I had a preference, but then I realized all of my muses are ... girls. It never struck me at first, but I don’t know why  —  I just like girls.

·         LEAST FAVORITE FACE(S):  Personally, I don’t give a damn about face claims. As in I don’t care whoever you use - play them as a character however you want.

·         MULTI OR SINGLE:  I’ve used single accounts for the longest time, but I cannot recommend multi-muses enough. Not only do you not have to make a new page and set your shite everytime you want to try someone new, but even if they don’t work out it’s not a big deal.

·         FLUFF:  Having times where muses calm down from the hardened persona’s a lot of them are crafted out to be to just be kind and relax with another soothes the soul. I don’t do them a lot compared to angst or memes, but just having a time for your muse to be happy tends to make me feel happier.

·         ANGST:  Angst is probably the most I’ve written out of these three ?? It is a lot of fun to consider the darker side of your muse and writing it out. I know everyone kinda does the meme of “ haha my muse about to have bad time ” but there is an interest of how dark you can be with your muse. Having them come out the other side is interesting.

·         SMUT:  I’ve done no smut in tumblr RP  -  mostly because of people’s rules and I mostly reserve anything lewd related. Also people are really really angry for certain muses doing lewd stuff. I don’t do any of that and I’m against minors doing lewd stuff. If I were to do smut RP, it be in Discord with close friends.

·         PLOT  /  MEMES:  I personally like to meme and plot! I think memes are easier since they’re more digestible and just ... kinda easier to think up on the spot. I love to talk plot with other people, but I tend to notice that plotted stuff gets dropped more frequently. I don’t know if that’s me or if I’m unlucky - but after talking so long about plots only for them to get dropped it’s kinda sad. I love plotting but I just don’t do it as much nowadays.

Which Sonic games and/or other media would you recommend for someone wanting to get into the franchise?

Honestly this isn't something I've ever thought about in great detail. Largely because the idea of "getting into the franchise" isn't something I've ever been able to relate to - I've just always been into it lol.

Though if I were to make an honest to god attempt at it, I'd say perhaps the newly released Sonic Origins is a good place to start in terms of getting into the games? It's not a collection without its flaws, but it's definitely perfectly fine for someone wanting to get into the series and just experience the games in a very easily accessible fashion. And I mean, it has the first 4 major Sonic games in it. And where better to start than the very beginning, right?

I'd also honestly say that the 2 live action movies are a pretty solid way to get an idea of kind of who the most important characters are, what they're about, and what their dynamics are and stuff. The first one isn't actually very good and doesn't super feel like Sonic, but it's necessary context for the second one and that second one should give you a good picture of some of the series basics while also being an actually fun and enjoyable movie. Unfortunately lots of the other non-game media either assumes too much knowledge of the games or is kind of a fucking mess so really the live action movies work best for newcomers lol.

I think past that, Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 are really significant entries in the franchise's history, introducing and clearly defining a good bunch of series staples characters and still being fairly accessible today, even if they've arguably aged in some regard.

I'd also argue in favour of Sonic Heroes being a fairly decent starting point? It's got some jank you might need to get used to and the cast size seems overwhelming at first, but it handles itself in a really beginner friendly way and is yet another game that gives you a good idea who many of the core series characters are and what their relationships with one another are like.

Sonic Colours is also a really solid title to start with - keeping its cast small and digestible and having some of the easiest gameplay to learn in the series' history.

Past that, I don't really have much I'd personally consider to be fully ideal for getting into Sonic. There's quite a lot to this franchise so it's definitely hard to really say what works best. Just maybe start with these sort of basic titles, do further research into good starting places since there are people that have gone into way more depth than I have with like full on charts and shit, and once you feel comfortable enough and have the general ideas of the franchise down you can really start deep-diving into some of the other games not mentioned so far.

Or something like that lol.
