Hey, all! I'm doing some very serious business academical research today. Help, please?

I'm looking for your best Wincest or J2 fic recs that involve realistic hygiene prep before anal sex and/or discussion about the subject. That is, the bottoming character cleaning or being cleaned beforehand (bonus points for enema use outside of kink scenario), open discussion between the characters about it, discussion between them of insecurities around these subjects or the possibility of 'accidents', etc.

The reason I ask is that the lovely humans at the @idlingintheimpalapodcast have invited me to co-host (or would it be thro-host since there'll be three of us? 🤔) their next Fact Versus Fiction episode which is all about Hygiene. Ostensibly I'm there as a guest vagina-haver, but as a long-term slash fic reader, there are other subjects I can help with. I'd also like to help them find some fics to rec to their listeners on this topic.

Now, if you've been reading m/m slash fic for any length of time, you know it's pretty rare to find any that explicitly depict realistic anal prep (which is fine–my own fics are the same. No one should go into a fic expecting a sex education lesson. That's what FvF is for. 😉). So I need your help!

I am once again here to ask for help from the people of tumblr in finding a fic 😔 I've been looking for it for abt 4 days now I would say, so I figured it was finally time to call out to the people

So first of all, it was destiel, the premise of the fic was: Dean was somehow pushed back in time to Lazarus rising, specifically outside the barn right before cas's big entrance

They may have been on a hunt when the time travel happend which possibly caused by a witch, but im not sure on that one

cas was there on the hunt with him- this is important for later, also I don't remember if Sam was there

So he's (dean) at the barn right and I don't remember why but he kisses s4 ep1 cas, I specifically remember him making a remark about now knowing why he had "just fucked hair" that day

Then dean gets thrown back to his original time, cas somehow knows what happed, dean asked him how on earth he waited this long for him to realize his feelings, there's some sappy I love you stuff and they kiss again :]

Yayyyy happy ending, that's it it was rlly cute and if you happen to know the fic OR whether or not it got deleted I will be extremely grateful

Okay, disclaimer that I may just write this myself, but.

I have read a ton of Destiel fic in which Jack is their kid and they're all a happy family (often times including a period of Dean apologizing for being a dickhead to Jack), and Sam is still sort of Jack's dad but also more like his uncle because he's Castiel's kid the most and Dean is with Cas, so.

Are there any fics out there that do a good job focusing on how special Sam and Jack's relationship is? I don't want to undercut his relationship with Cas and Dean, but the stuff he has in common with Sam and their dynamic is something I wanted to see more in canon. Plus also Jack validating that Sam is still one of his dads even if his other two dads are together. (or not, not looking for Destiel fic specifically here) I just really want fic where Sam's relationship with Jack is important and he's not more like the dad-who-is-actually-like-an-uncle.

Hello everyone. I'm looking for a fic I read a long time ago that I can't find. He is one of my favorites that I didn't get to keep.

This is what I remember from the fic:

Once the seals were broken Lucifer was supposed to be released, but I think the cage was empty and it only contained his grace. Grace ends with Dean and Dean finds out that it's not actually Michael's vessel, nor is Sam Lucifer's vessel. He, Dean, is Lucifer. I don't remember why I think Lucifer reincarnated as Dean. I mean, Dean was always Lucifer.

I don't remember if they met Gabriel first, I think it was because Loki and Dean recognized Gabriel's grace (or something like that) or if Zacarias sent him to that alternate future where Dean was still Dean and Sam had said yes, and had been possessed by Lucifer. Dean has an interaction with Cas, to whom in the end he confessed the truth: that he was always Lucifer. I think Cas at first didn't believe that Dean could be Lucifer, then he ended up laughing out of despair. And Dean ended up killing another Lucifer in Sam's body (I think he snapped his fingers).

Back to his time. At some point they have a meeting with Chuck as their father, as God (here Chuck was not the bad guy as in the canon), along with Gabriel and Dean-Lucifer in a cafeteria where they have a father-son moment, where they talk about their feelings and the decisions they had made are claimed, and where Chuck basically justified himself for what he did to Lucifer, because he wanted him to learn from humanity or something like that. Also at some point Dean finds out that Michael is not in heaven and that he fell after Lucifer, I think because of guilt. Dean at some point confesses everything to Sam and they seek Michael's grace, only to discover that he was under a tree (oak?) And that the real Michael, and older brother, was always Sam.

Sam recovers his memories of him (I think his personality takes a more serious tone, since this Michael is not bad as in the canon either) and they have a brotherly conversation between Michael and Lucifer, where Lucifer claims him for what he this had done to him. And that's all I remember. If anyone knows this fic and if they could help me find this fic, I would be very grateful.

FIC HELP!!!!

I NEED HELP FINDING A SPN FANFIC, WHICH I WAS TOO DUMB TO BOOKMARK!!!! 😭😭😭😭

I know I read it on ao3. It was a post-finale Supernatural fic with Destiel as a main ship. It was about how Dean saved Cas from the Empty. And he didn't tell Cas he loved him back bc he's emotionaly constipated. he keeps being an asshole to Cas, asking if he would like to kiss him and such things and he kinda runs off before he answers bc it makes him panik. At the end he pulls his head out of his ass and they get together. It was kinda long, I think.

I looked but I can't find it. I'd be so thankfull if someone has a clue to what it could be.

I have a burning curiosity that can only be relieved by an OFMD author. Why is there so much AU fanfiction in this fandom?? 😆 My AO3 search results with every alternate universe tag I can think of blocked are coming up with almost every result on the page filtered out! 🤣 I have nothing against them existing and I'm all for everyone writing what makes them happy, I just wonder how this fandom ended up being so full of them. I used to think SPN was oversaturated with AU's, but it can't hold a candle to OFMD! 😅

okay i wanted to give this a proper answer and also asked a few other authors, so here are some of the reasons we came up with - i think it's a combination of all of these:

while the show takes place in a historical setting, it's not historically accurate or even trying to be. it uses anachronistic dialogue and gives piracy a vibe more like a modern workplace. the characters become timeless in the sense that they are already "modern" characters put into a historical setting, and therefore fit just as well into any kind of AU setting. the characters are what make up the show more than the historical setting

the themes that the show deals with - relationships, sexuality, gender, trauma, family, self-image, mental illness - can be explored in so many different ways given different settings. it's very interesting to examine how the characters would deal with them when thrown into different circumstances and time periods

canon is really good, so while there are gaps in the narrative that can be explored, a lot of people are drawn to putting the characters in entirely different situations and/or feel like canon ground was covered pretty quickly

the story itself translates to other universes very easily. people want to enjoy that story and/or their favorite plot points again and again, but just writing down the plot of the show in the canon setting wouldn't make much sense. by throwing the characters into a different universe, you can pull scenes and plot from canon without just repeating it, putting a different spin on it

very few shows have (canonically) older queer people, and people like the idea of how that translates to other universes

we have (relatively) little canon and had a lot of time between seasons. considering the size of the fandom, amount of canon, and time since canon, the proportion of AUs is not surprising

if we assume proper tagging, AUs make up around 27% of all ofmd fanfics by number of works, but probably much more by word count, since a lot of canon fics tend to be shorter. in comparison, that number is around 20% for SPN and 34% for Merlin 🤷

also i've seen a lot of people starting out by only wanting to read canonverse fics until they gave an AU a try and BAM they were hooked 😌

It’s been an hour, maybe two, since they accepted their fate. They don’t know exactly when the world is ending, but Cas thinks it’ll be within the next few hours or so. 

Y/N needs to find Dean. Not because she thinks he’s found a way out of this mess — there is no way out — but because she loves him, and whether he knows that or not, she wants to spend her last moments on Earth next to him. She finds him right where she knew he’d be — sitting in Baby, in the bunker’s garage.

She walks over and opens the door, sliding into the passenger’s seat without saying a word. Dean’s staring out the windshield, his knuckles white from his grip on the steering wheel. He doesn’t move to look at her. He doesn’t say a word.

“Dean,” she whispers, placing her hand on his shoulder.

He lets out a long, shaky breath. “We can’t fix it this time.”

“‘fraid not,” she replies with a soft chuckle. Not because it’s funny, but because if she doesn’t laugh, she’ll cry.

“God dammit!” he shouts, hitting the center of the steering wheel, causing Baby to honk. 

Y/N flinches, but keeps her hand on his shoulder. 

Dean sighs and lets his head fall back, resting on the top of the seat as he fixes his eyes on the car’s ceiling. 

“I thought we had more time,” he says, barely audible. 

“Yeah, we all did,” she replies with a sad smile.

“No, I mean — I thought we had more time.”

She furrows her eyebrows. “What are you talking about?”

“Us, Y/N. This isn’t how I thought we were gonna go. I thought —”

He stops himself, but she so desperately needs to hear the rest. 

“You thought what, Dean?”

He takes a deep breath. Fuck it. The world is ending, right?

“I thought I’d at least get to kiss you before I died. Tell you I’ve been in love with you for the past four years. Settle down one day. White picket fence. Maybe a dog. Get out of this life, start our own.”

He turns his head slightly, his green eyes searching her face for a reaction.

She’s stunned into silence, but then the silence turns to soft laughter, and she’s shaking her head in disbelief while she thinks about what to say. 

She settles on, “I can’t believe you waited until the end of the world to tell me you’re in love with me.”

He shrugs and huffs a quiet laugh. “You know I don’t like talking about my feelings.”

She chuckles. “You’re better at it than me, ‘cause I was gonna take my feelings to the grave.”

There’s silence as he processes her reply. His eyes fill with hope as he realizes what she’s saying. “Wait. So you…?”

“Since I’ve known you, you idiot.”

He smiles like the world isn’t ending in a few hours. She kisses him like it is.

Do you really think a SPN revival would work without both Sam and Dean? (Asking non-aggressively. Tone is hard to convey in text.). We have seen every spin-off concept without them both fail so far.

I’m not saying a good story couldn’t be told with Dean II focus, but the magic behind SPN was always Jared and Jensen together. Otherwise, it’s just another found family, supernatural story (and there are a few). It was Sam and Dean’s unhinged codependency and J2’s chemistry that made the OG SPN so compelling.

Personally, at least, I don’t think I’d care about a story that didn’t have both brothers.

I wish Jared (and Jensen) wouldn’t hype a revival if there isn’t any real intention behind it. Surly people are showing up at cons without dangling the carrot, and if no revival happens they will dry up eventually. They already are. Yo an extent. Teasing a revival is not “what I want to hear” if it isn’t actually intended.

Ugh. I hate Hollywood BS. Even the nice actors, why say they care, are lying to you.

I should have clarified that the revival ideally be a mix of Dean II stories and Sam and Dean stories set between 15x19 and 15x20. Fans and Jared like to think there was 5 years between those two episodes and as long as J2 maintain their weights, they can pull it off.  With Jack remaking heaven and keeping the angels away from earth and Rowena keeping demons away from the Winchesters, the brothers’ hunts return to the more simple days of monster hunting.  My personal favorite fanfic idea is Sam’s adult hunter grandchildren (played by Colin Ford and Brock Kelly) time travel back to 2020 to search for a valuable artifact, only to run into Sam and Dean one month before 15x20.  The grandchildren of course cannot tell Sam and Dean who they really are as Sam and Dean help them find the artifact.  As the grandchildren spend more time with Sam and Dean, they come to really like Dean and want to warn him of his impending death.  But then they realized that if Dean lives, Sam won’t leave hunting, won’t meet their grandmother, and they will cease to exist.

This will be the length of limited series as there's no 20+ episodes anymore and instead release 10 episodes for couple of seasons.

Jared and Jensen know that WB is going to attempt a revival or spinoff sooner or later, might as well keep their names attached to it because you never know if the next WB executive may try to make their mark by saying Sam and Dean who? Jared in particular doesn't want the inevitable spinoff or reboot or revival to dilute the Supernatural brand. Think of George Takei's public complaints that every new Star Trek spinoff was diluting the OG brand.

So, it's come to my attention that calling The Winchesters 'fanfic' is something that a cursed segment of the SPN fandom is doing to denigrate TW.

I have gleefully called it fanfic, and that's because it is clearly a transformative work based on the original show. Jensen Ackles literally said: I hate this ending for the blorbo inside my heart (and body), I can't let him go, and I'm gon' write him a new ending. Then he threw his money at it, and suited up. Good boy.

For the record, I think that is fucking awesome. Let me be very clear: fanfic is something I love very much, something that is of genuine intellectual interest, and a thing you will pry from my cold, dead hands. Calling something fanfic is not, to me, a denigration of any kind. Believe me, when I tell y'all that I never expected to take Jensen Ross Ackles into my heart like I have thanks to this amazing turn of events, but THIS HAS DONE IT. I love that dude. He looks so fucking cute when he is fixing that dog's dinner of an ending to a show and a character that I got 15-year slow-burned into being over-invested in. He has never looked cuter.

That said, my calling it a fundamentally transformative work doesn't mean I'm saying it's not canon. What happened in TW is canon in the SPN universe, and the haters can die mad about it. Dean is canonically actively searching for his "family", or like, the one member of his family he doesn't know exactly where to find... I'll give you a hint:

...and dealing with his trauma while driving his magic car through portals in the multiverse to hang out with his baby parents and their awesome friends.

Jensen's privileged position as both the owner of the intellectual property and the producer of a transformative work based on previous canon means that TW hits an interesting sweet spot in the shared space on the fic vs canon Venn diagram of my dreams. I love it, and I hope someone is writing a dead-serious dissertation somewhere, although probably not, because it's not like it's a new situation that something is simultaneously transformative and an original work.

So tl;dr -- TW is clearly a transformative work, and it is also canon. Jensen Ackles is a goddamn delight, and I love him for this. I hope he is very proud of himself. Jensen, you're doing great, honey! Finally, calling something fanfic is not a denigration, because fanfic is legit and awesome. The end.

How to Use A03 if you're used to Algorithm Fed Content: A kind primer.

There's a post making the rounds where someone, I'm going to assume earnestly, asks the question, "How do people figure out what's good to read on AO3?" And predictably, while there have been some people trying to answer that question assuming that it's being asked in good faith, there have been some people ridiculing this person. Basically, spewing out the fandom equivalent of "git gud noob." Like I said... I'm assuming this person was asking out of actual ignorance and curiosity, mostly because I see a lot of people also lamenting the fact that algorithm-fed apps and fandom spaces are creating a generation of fans who don't know how to actively search for and curate the content they consume. So when they get on a place like AO3 or even Tumblr to an extent, they don't know how to find the things they want and how to curate their experience. And so I guess that's why I pulled up short when this person's question has been getting so much snark. Here's a teachable moment. Even if they are being a troll in this case (which I doubt) here's the chance to give the facts on how AO3 works so they can use this amazing archive themselves. And not just them but anyone who happens upon the post. So... I'm not an AO3 whiz by any means. I don't spend a lot of time digging around in the tags and tools and bells and whistles of the search engine. If someone else wants to reblog with some tips there, go for it. It's the best thing about AO3 in my opinion... other than the lack of censorship. But here's my tips on how to find something you'll like. This is pretty much what I do.

-Go to your fandom of choice's tag. Filter for the rating you want (Teen, Explicit, etc), and then just start scrolling. Take a peek at things that sound interesting from the tags or summaries. You might have to scroll for a bit, and you might hit some stuff that's not for you, but you'll find something eventually. Especially if it's a bigger fandom like SPN, MCU, Hannibal, or Critical Role. -If you discover/know that there's something that bothers you (unfinished work, ABO dynamics, whatever) you can filter for those tags! This is how you curate your experience. It's an active process and there are no shadow-bans or anything in place to keep sensitive content corralled into a certain area. There's a rating system, and there's tags, but nothing to actually make those mean anything unless the user blocks them. While it takes more thought than mindless scrolling, you get to play a role in actively searching out new things for yourself that an algorithm might gloss over. -Likewise, if there's something you really like or are in the mood for, search for that tag in particular. Fluff, Hurt/Comfort, Coffee Shop AU... whatever your jam is. -Be careful using metrics like views, comments, and kudos as benchmarks. They fluctuate wildly by pairing, and from fandom to fandom, and are heavily influenced by date of publishing. And just because the majority of people like something, doesn't mean it's for you. If something sounds interesting... read a few paragraphs and see what's up! -Check out the Collections page under the "Browse" tabs. Often these are curated lists either from individual fans or from fanfic writing events like Big Bangs, Zines, and gift exchanges. Fanfic events like these often attract pretty experienced writers so not only is the quality likely to be very good, it's also likely to have some pretty prolific authors -When you find an author you like, and have read your fill of their offerings, see what they have bookmarked or what collections their works are in. You might find some similarly interesting stuff. It's also worth seeing if they have a blog or other social media listed on their about page. They might post some links there or be part of communities elsewhere on the internet that can open up new search avenues for you. -Don't be afraid to read old stuff. Fandoms change and evolve. There's a golden age of MCU fanfic in the 2010s that's just unlike anything else. And the Hannibal fandom has been and always will be a trip, but man it's been a wild ride through some interesting places and obsessions. -And lastly... for the love of god, comment on old stuff. It's not creepy or weird. In fact, if you like someone's writing who hasn't written in a bit, leave them a nice comment. There's this magical thing that happens when you do. Sometimes... THEY START WRITING AGAIN! (saying this from experience here.) Remember... the A in AO3 stands for Archive. It's not a social media platform. It's a library. There is -supposed- to be old stuff there. And you are absolutely allowed to read it and enjoy it and tell the author that. In fact... please do. As I said, feel free to add on if you want to give tips of your own. But be kind. I see a lot of talk about how algorithms are changing the face of fandom and how people interact with fan made content. Let's reach out and educate instead of ridicule.

This story takes place after the SPN finally. Jack asked Castiel to go back to earth to be the guardian angel of Y/N. Cas accepts this task but only to discover that Y/N is the biological child of Dean.

When Jack asked Castiel to talk to him he never would have expected that he would be granted with a task. “Cas, there is a child on earth who needs our protection. "The angel gave Jack a frowned look. “What do you mean?” He asked. “I can’t tell you much now, I only know that this child, Y/N, is special. She is with her family in Texas.” Castiel nodded and flew down to earth to search for the child.  

Castiel arrived at the given address, immediately overhearing the parents fighting. “IF THAT IS NOT MY OFFSPRING, I SHOULDN’T BE TAKING CARE THAT BASTART!” Without wanting to interfere Cas made sure to enter the house invisible. He watched as the man hit his wife a crossed her face. He walked past them with a heavy feeling, in search of the kid. As he walked upstairs, passed the main bedroom, in the next room he sees a little baby in their bed. Assuming this was Y/N he picked the kid up and started to sing in Enochian. “That’s beautiful!”.  

 

Castiel turned around to look at the little kid behind him in her bed.  “You can see me?”  

“Uhu! Who are you?” She asked while staying seated in her bed, clearly not afraid of the strange men in their bedroom.  

Castiel placed the baby back in their crib.  “My name is Castiel, I am...” but the kid didn’t let him finish. “Are you a ghost?” ‘Euhm, no... no, I am an angel. What is your name?”  

“ I’m Y/N” she answered with the cutest smile ever seen. 

 

As Castiel walked closer to the kid, he started to feel like he knows her. Maybe in a past life, or maybe this kid was a vessel for another angel. That would explain why she could see him.  

“You want to read me a story?” Y/N asked while moving over in her bed “You can sit next to me. My mom and dad never like to read to me. They fight all the time! Sometimes mom has ….” Castiel was listening to every word she said to him and sat quietly down next to her.  

Months go by, Castiel is as much as possible around Y/N, she trusts him with every secret. 

 When she comes home from pre-school and before she has dinner with her family, she runs straight upstairs to talk to Castiel about her day. “Tomorrow is my birthday, Castiel! Do you think mommy and daddy will give me a present?”  

Castiel wanted nothing more than to tell her that her parents bought a present and will make that day about her. But he did hear the man say he will never buy a present for “the bastard”.   

“ I bet they have a great present for you! What do you want most?” He asked. “ Euhm, a unicorn!” Y/N answered.  

So, the next day Castiel went shopping for anything that had a unicorn on it. Books, stuffed animals, balloons, … As he was decorating her room, he heard Y/N coming home and yelling at her parents, this never happened before! “You forgot me today! It’s my birthday and you didn’t say anything!” Before they could answer she ran upstairs.  

Castiel stood there not knowing how to react. “Happy 5th birthday kiddo.” He said with a soft smile.  

Y/N’s tears streamed down her eyes but at the same time she had a smile from ear to ear.  

Without hesitation she hugged the angel’s legs “Oh thank you Castiel, I knew you wouldn’t forget me! Can’t you take me to heaven with you? Can’t you adopt me? Do I really have to stay here?” all Castiel could do was sit down and hug Y/N. I’m sorry kid, but I can be here for you!

Y/N is now 15, Castiel watched her grow up into a troubled teen with a back story. Her “dad” beat her mother up. In the beginning she didn’t really knew better, but as she got older, she realised that her home wasn’t a normal one.  

2 years ago, Y/N found out her dad isn’t her biological dad. Her mom had a one nightstand with a guy she met at the bar. When she found out she was pregnant she was already dating your so-called dad. He thought the first few years that you were his but soon noticed that your hair and eye colour didn’t match his nor your moms. One night when he was drunk and aggressive, she confessed. Ever since he treated you as an outsider. 

He never laid a hand on you, but you weren’t exactly loved by him. Even your mom started to become more and more distant.

Today you didn’t came home from school on time, you parents weren’t that concerned, but Cas on the other hand went looking for Y/N right away!  

First he went to the high school Y/N attended of course no one there. The more he walked around town the more he started to get worried. While he got worried, he started to think.  

“She is 15 now, soon 16. She doesn't even know de dangers of this world. Maybe it’s time to teach her. Maybe I need to... God no Castiel stop it. She has you to protect her...  

Well I lost her so maybe I'm not a good guardian. What would Dean or Sam do?  

Dean... He probably would have bought her, her first gun by now. Sam would have given her every book from the man of letter archive. And what do I do? Wait for her to come home, buy her stuffed animals. 

 

“SON OF A BITCH!”  

That’s Y/N’s voice!  

Cas ran down the street towards the sound “ Y/N? Y/N, are you ok? I heard you yell”  

“Castiel? What are you doing here?” He looked at the now teenager, her lip was busted, and her left eye started to swell. “What happened?” He asked again while looking at her face. 

“3 of these older kids at school were picking on a kid from my class. I wanted to help him.  

But this asshole hit me and stole my bus ticket.”   

“Why didn’t you come home? And why do you need a bus ticket? “He asked while touching her face to heal the wounds. “Well, I was planning on running away.” She said shamefully. “I can’t stay there anymore, Cas.”  

“Run away? Y/N why didn’t you tell me? You can trust me.” 

“ Oh please Cas, every year for my birthday you ask what I want. And for the last 10 years I asked you to take me away! Away from those awful people.”  

Castiel thought for a second “Ok.”  

“Ok, what?”  

“Let’s go. I will take you away, anywhere you want. But not without clothes or a bag. You at least leave a note for your parents.” He tried to say firm.  

 “Thanks Cas.” She said while hugging him. Here hair touched his chin and while their hug lasted longer than usual, he could have sworn that for a second... No that’s not possible!  

But as soon as she pulled back and he looked in Y/N’s Forest green eyes all he could see was hope, stubbornness and... Dean.

SPN Rewatch: Fanfic Edition - Next weekend, we will have another chat in our series rewatch! We are starting season 2 with the episodes 2.01 In My Time of Dying and 2.02 Everybody Loves a Clown. If you haven't been part of the discussions before, you can read all about them in the Archive!

And now for something completely different - We've heard you about the typesetting and fanbinding tutorials! We're trying to figure out the best ways to do it, and if we have those abilities. Once we've got that figured out, then we will search for someone to come and teach us!
