Before I get on with watching the penultimate episode of the current season, I wanna do a quick shout out to this amazing scene built on campy absurdity and the most tremendous acting...

There is simply no other show like Doctor Who. 🥹

This scene begins with the Doctor just running and scrambling around the control room of The Meep's spaceship (with Tennant's lanky physicality to boot) when Donna chases him down not quite fully remembering him but running on instinct.

They are both trapped in this confined space as doors begin to close in conveniently inconvenient order.

They are then separated by a glass pane which, honestly, if the scene ever stopped to breathe we'd all jointly be like "who builds a ship with a big glass divider in the middle of it? What actual purpose would that serve?" But because it's Tate and Tennant, were transported to an exciting and stressful bout of dramatic Shakespearean comedy.

The Doctor realizes in the heat of the moment if he stands any chance of saving the planet (again), he has to sacrifice the safety of the ones he's grown to love.

In this case, a woman who was fully and completely his best friend.

He unlocks her memory and they save the day one last time as Doctor Donna!

...but the timelord mind and a human brain were never meant to coexist. Donna collapses.

When I saw this the first time I really did allow myself to believe the Doctor's fear had manifested. That Donna died to save the world just as she remembered him.

All the silliness in the world transpired in those minutes leading up and when this moment came along, I couldn't look away. I was shellshocked.

...and they had earned it.

I started to believe The Doctor was going to have to bury her and live on piecing together the why without her. Even thinking fleeting thoughts about other possible loose ends.

And then they did a nonsensical but heartfelt twist about nonbinary people and omfg...it was like getting the biggest hug from your supportive uncle who just wants to see you smile.

For me, that uncle doesn't exist in the physical or present sense. So this moment felt like Russell T Davies inserting himself as a loving, supportive fella holding out his arms and trying his absolute best.

Maybe holding two gift bags...one from a fashion store he shops at all the time and another bag from a hunting box store you just know he never goes to with a camo flat bill hat inside he thought "maybe they would like to wear this??"

All in all, there is absolutely no other show like Doctor Who. 🥰

thinking abt how david tenant's nonbinary kid will grow up with a doctor who that is unashamedly inclusive of trans people. they'll see their dad on TV with a trans girl who saves the world.
