["you" is used as general you and isn't directed at anyone personally]
radical take: you can't know someone's agab if you haven't seen the moment of assigning it.
(intersex) people get reassigned with different gender later in life. sometimes after days, sometimes after weeks & months & years passed from birth.
trans labels are not indicative of agab.
body parts are not indicative of agab.
how someone is raised is not indicative of agab.
you can't always know whether someone is trans or intersex by their look.
if someone is visibly trans/intersex, it doesn't mean you can tell their gender by their look and moreso tell their agab (by assuming it being "the opposite" (binary shit) of their gender).
if someone tells you they're trans/nonbinary/intersex/otherwise genderqueer, you still can't tell their agab because you don't know their experience and medical history.
and oh, you shouldn't try to guess someone's agab at the first place.
(i can't believe "you can't tell someone's agab" and "you shouldn't ask someone's agab" and "what is in the stranger's pants is none of your business" are hot takes in the end of 2024 on tumblr).

Transandrophobia goes beyond just being dismissive of trans men, it's this culture within the queer community where transmasc and afab enby experiences and culture are regularly hated and dismissed by the rest of the community. As well as the way any hint of female sex on someone who isn't a woman is hated. Not to mention the insane amount of transphobia + homophobia trans mlm face within the queer community.
Like just look at how every fandom (lemon demon, fnaf, TallyHall, Undertale, backrooms, etc.) gets hated and mocked by the internet the momment the fandom becomes majority afab trans people. I've seen this happen in real time, where fandoms go from being seen as cool and interesting, to being dismissed as weird and cringe, the momment thos shift happens.
Or the way transmasc and afab enby bodies are treated. The way transmascs are bullied for not having body types considered masculine. The searing hatred most people here seem to have for any afab trans person who isn't on T. The way passing is celebrated as a moral good. The way twink has been a polite way for some people to call trans men girls.
Transmascs and afab enbies deserve love and kindness. And they also deserve human respect. Please if your an afab trans person reading this: I love you, I respect you, you deserve to be respected, and treated as an adult able to make your own decisions, you deserve to have your body treated with respect regardless of appearance and for people to be normal about it.

A Note To All My Trans+ Siblings
I’m in an issues in trans+ communities seminar, and today we talked about the “Defending Women From Gender Ideology Extremism & Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government” executive order issued by 47 on his first day in office.
I openly cried in lecture. I was fortunate enough to flee the US at my first opportunity (perks of being a dual citizen), but I fear for my community. It is easy—and understandable—to fall into hopelessness and despair right now. But I would like to share with you a message of hope imparted on me by my professor.
My professor, sociologist & sexologist Aaron H. Devor, holds the inaugural position as the world’s first Chair in Transgender Studies. He is an internationally recognized leading expert in trans+ issues, and truly, he has done so, so much for our community. I think we could all do with some of his wisdom right now. This is a direct quote from him today:
“Trump and his ilk are often referred to as reactionaries and … what that means is that social change is happening in a direction that moves away from the old, and these people are reacting against that change.
They’re trying to stop it, trying to turn the clock back, and ultimately they will not be successful. A lot of people will get hurt before they are ultimately not successful. But bear in mind, what Trump is pushing for used to be standard. That used to be the norm, that used to be what everybody thought and what everybody believed, and nobody had to argue about it—that was just taken for granted. That there are only two sexes, there are only two genders, nobody can change sex, gender is not a real thing—that used to be the mainstream.
And the fact that the people who are pushing to go back to that are the reactionaries tells us that progress has been made.
You can’t sit back and say, ‘oh well, there you go, done …’ The fact that Trump got elected tells you that you have to always be continuing to push, continuing to defend any advances that are made.
But you have to understand. Trump wouldn’t be a reactionary if what he wanted was what everybody believed. Cuz reactionaries are trying to undo the progress that has been made. And there’s a whole lot of people who made that progress happen who are going to be defending it and are gonna be pushing for more progress. …
Keep it in perspective in terms of why this is happening—it’s happening because we have been successful, we have made a lot of changes, and there’s a lot of people that wanted that to happen that made that happen who are going to be trying to keep Trump and his buddies from getting too far in where they wanna go.”
Do not give up. Do not stay silent. Now is the time for solidarity, and for rising up together and fighting for our rights. We have been successful in the past. And we will continue to be successful.

To accept trans people you have to accept them as their gender identity at all times I don't get why this is so hard for people, especially allies, especially other trans people. Not calling someone slurs isn't enough, you have to see them as the gender they say they are.
You don't get to gender transfems as male the momment you want to be afraid of them. You don't get to gender transmascs as female the momment you think it'll be easier for them or that it'll promote gender equality. You don't get to pick which binary gender you want a nonbinary person to be the momment you run into a situation where our culture wants you to see them as one or the other.
Missgendering someone isn't just using the wrong name or pronouns, it's thinking about someone, or treating someone, the wrong way.

the nonbinary trans experience
being nonbinary, whether you identify as trans or not, comes with its own set of specific obstacles that being a trans binary person doesn't come with. this isn't to say that binary trans people struggle less than us, obviously; it just happens that our struggles are different, because we're nonbinary.
here are a few examples on how being nonbinary makes my life difficult:
i can't legally change my gender marker to x or remove the gender marker from my id entirely
many languages (such as portuguese, german, spanish and french) don't officially have gender neutral pronouns, which means that nonbinary speakers have to come up with new terms, which aren't recognized and respected by other speakers 99.999% of the time
it is especially difficult to pass as a nonbinary person because the idea that gender is binary (m/f) is so deeply ingrained in westerners' minds that they wouldn't conceive the possibility of a nonbinary person even when said person is dressed androgynously
and please keep in mind that these are struggles i face as a white able-bodied person who is not an immigrant. other nonbinary people have it much worse than i do based on their circumstances and other axises of oppression.
exorsexism is real. uplift nonbinary voices.

I’m non-binary.
I’m trans.
I didn’t decide to yell it loud and clear before a long time. You know what this is, right? The never-ending questions turning in your head, not knowing if it’s just me influenced by the people around me, or if I’ve been around the LGBT+ community for so long, it just started to rub off on me.
But no, I’m trans.
It took a lot less time to feel non-binary than it took to feel trans. I didn’t even know that being enby was a spectrum hiding under the great umbrella of divergent gender identities. But now, it makes sense. Men, women, enbies, we’re simply not born in the right body. That prison-body, that sees us grow up, but not the way we intended to.
In short, I’m trans.
I learned a lot of things since I’m trans. I learned that not transitioning doesn’t make you an impostor, which was a relief as it really wasn’t in my plans. I learned that, when you’re doubting, concerned by some irrational fear, you can ask for help online and find help from perfect strangers in a flash, just because they know what you’re going through. I learned there were way more genders than I thought, and that it’s fine to not know where exactly you identify. It’s human to not know. Humans are made of indecisions, right? That’s human.
I learned that being trans is being human. And yet?
Since I’m trans, I learned that my body doesn’t belong to me. No, it belongs to the far-right wing elite who decides if yes or no I have the right to exist. In France, my right to exist is fragile, but there. I wished I wasn’t there to see my American friends lose theirs.
Since I’m trans, I learned that existing is a crime in the eyes of some people. “We don’t care that you’re trans. What we want is for you to stop telling it constantly.” They say. Oh yeah? What about all the people grimacing when they see me in the street? Did I tell them I was trans? What about my family refusing to invite me because, you know, she’s provoking everyone, your daughter, she should see a therapist, your daughter. That’s not normal to act like that. Like what?
Well, I believe it’s not normal to behave the way you do, even more so since transphobia often comes in a cocktail with its two big friends, racism and queerphobia. What’s bothering you is not telling you we are transgender, no. The problem is that we exist at all.
Ah, yes, sorry! Obviously, that’s something you don’t tell out loud! No, no! Around the table, if you dare to mention the word “transphobia”, everyone suddenly feels like they have to defend their honor like some kind of medieval knights! “Me? Transphobic? Oh, that’s bullshit! I don’t have anything against people like you. They do what they want to do, the people like you. But, you know, you need to accept not everyone thinks like your people. Why don’t we agree to disagree?”
Oh yes, that’s rich! I have to agree that you have the right to not see me as a person. At least not a person like you. That you have the right to not recognize me as the same type of human you are, that you have the right to vote for people who want me dead. That you have the right to publish on social media posts that criticize me breathing when you know I can see them. That you have the right to be delighted by trans people losing their rights in the United States. That you have the right to say straight to my face that I’m mentally ill on Facebook. That you have the right to support authors giving millions against trans people just because they hurt their huge ego as yours is right now when I said you are transphobic.
And me? Ah, yes. I have the right to shut the fuck up, that’s right!
Since I’m trans, I learned that what’s bothering them is not that I’m trans. Nope, what’s bothering them is that I exist as a trans person in the public space and stand for myself. That you can’t crush me as easily as all the poor people you had the misfortune to cross roads with.
Since I’m trans, and every time I’m saying I’m trans online, I always receive death threats, insults, and 3 miles-long books to explain to me why I should shut up and stop breathing in the little space they claimed like alpha wolves in heat. Since I’m trans, I can’t read articles talking about inclusion, diversity, trans people, the LGBT+ community because their reviews spaces are full of little fascists that only feel existing by stepping on small minorities that are not many enough to defend themselves against them. And each day, they grew more abundant. It’s scary.
Since I’m trans, my mental health is deteriorating, and it’s not because I’m trans. It’s because I’m constantly exposed to hate online. It’s because it’s ok if I exist, but not too much or it starts bothering people. It’s because I was told that men, because, yes, they’re men in the majority, want me dead and that I should deal with it. It’s because I was told to accept people not agreeing I have the right to exist. It’s because I was told it’s no use to protest for my rights, since the day Big Trump will overpower the government, I won’t have any rights at all. It’s because I was told to separate J.K. Rowling and what she writes because I don’t have a say in what she does with her money, even though she’s using it to kill me. It’s because I was told I should thank Elon Musk for saving children from a transition they would regret later, even though it means condemning a lot of these children to a premature suicide because no one will listen to them.
And yet, I’m still trans, in a world that hates me, and will keep hating me if nothing changes.
I didn’t choose it, it just happened.
It’s not fashionable. It’s not provocation.
It’s who I am.
Being trans is an everyday fight. It’s waking up each morning and learning yet another one of your friends, somewhere around the world, took their own life overnight because they couldn’t bear people telling them to stop existing anymore. It happened this morning, once again.
It’s pretending to not see hatred burning around us.
I live on a patch of land circled by an inferno, and that inferno slowly closes on us. Sometimes, we manage to push it back a little with a garden hose, but then it comes closer on the other side of the house.
How much time do we have before it consumes us all?
Hopefully, we still have some time, and yet…
I don’t know if I’ll still exist tomorrow.
