Ahsoka’s “I am no Jedi” line wasn’t a defiant declaration against the order, the ideology or the code.

It was Ahsoka’s imposter syndrome.

It was Ahsoka spending years fighting as a warrior not doing what she trained for in the temple.

It was that moment at the temple right before she left when she no longer trusted herself, not solely because the council betrayed her, but because she thought that they believed that she was capable of doing the things that she was accused of.

It was Barriss’s words ringing in her ears about being in an army fighting for the darkness.

It was looking at her lineage and all that it encompassed.

It was Ahsoka seeing her own legacy as one of death and destruction, not one of peace and serenity.

She doesn’t harbor anti-Jedi sentiments. She’s not a stickler for the protocols or a fan of the politics, but she’s been a Jedi the whole time.

SHE just needed to see it, but she couldn’t at that moment because she couldn’t see past the pain, the grief, the death or the destruction.

Are you allergic to happy endings and fluff? 😭 just wondering

Fluff really bores me, I have almost zero interest in it 💔

I have written happy endings before, believe it or not! It depends on the characters involved. If one of them is a villain, there likely won’t be a happy ending.

…and here’s why:

We all know my favorite trope is enemies to lovers / enemies to something else, but this doesn’t always mean one of the characters is a villain. This is a very important distinction.

For example, I’ve written a huuuge angsty sexy story where Character A and Character B were enemies due to having seriously opposing views, beliefs, and loyalties. Neither are villains, though one character is arguably a huge douchebag. They got a happy ending!

If a villain is involved, it changes everything. I am a stickler for keeping characters in-character, I don’t sugar coat the bad guys. What this means is that it also makes “happy endings” unrealistic. True villains will do things and act in ways that simply do not create happy endings for the other person involved. It is simply not in their nature; these are people who are not looking to be ‘good’.

For this example, I wrote a massive story that involved a canon villain known for enjoying torture and murder. In canon, Character A tortured Character B until said character broke and became their slave, free of captivity, yet completely loyal in the aftermath due to the severity of the Stockholm Syndrome. Pretty dire, right?

I wrote them into a modern AU with the study of Character A having an anti-social personality disorder paired with severe sexual sadism and a difficulty with humanizing other people, which makes for a difficult-to-manage medical scenario, as this combination is rare to diagnose, has specific requirements, and can be dangerous if not maintained carefully.

Character B also remained true to self, hiding his own previous trauma, daddy issues, and emotional brokenness behind his arrogant asshole, manwhore mask. When he meets Character A, it is an exhibit of the downward spiral, of someone who believes they deserve to be treated poorly due to severe self-loathing, spawned by survivor guilt, suicide ideation, and being disdained by one’s father.

This story was an epic, psychological examination of obsession and emotional ruin. I ended it in a way that some people actually believed it was happy, but the reality is, it was the final culmination of Character B sinking to the bottom of his spiral, determining that if he couldn’t commit to his ideations of death, being with Character A was close enough.

So, that is why when you see me write a villain in a ship…it won’t end happy….and I often work with villains, thus the lack of happy endings.

But, I’ve got like 50+ stories in ao3 and quite a few actually end happy 😆

Some thoughts about Dabihawks and the “Enemies to Lovers” trope (someway through this turned into a character study).

OK, so this is a very weird thing for me to post, especially since I normally don’t post at all (and for the few people that actually follow me and may see this, I just reblog art and photographs for the most part so this may be even weirder). But anyway, I want to dump this here. I don’t know if this makes much sense or has much of a basis. And I’m far from a shipping expert. Warning in advance.

Normally, I do not ship. At all. I support canon pairings if there and I can tolerate ships for the most part. I am one of those people who get annoyed if everyone is gay in a work because my mind goes to “what would be the odds in real life” - I don’t mean many offense, but my environment made me only encounter homosexuality in fiction so I doubt my experience with LGBTQA people is universal, but to me it’s a rarity.

And a type of ship that particularly annoys me is “enemies to lovers”. I just couldn’t see it. At all. I hated the very concept of those ships and they were among the first things I would filter out when searching through the Archive. “Don’t like, don’t read” as they say and I sure as hell didn’t read.

This probably has a lot to do with me being a bit of a stickler for canon or canon details in many case, but to each their own.

Enter Dabihawks.

Funny thing, I don’t have a 100% clear memory of how I ran into this pairing because make no mistake, I’m VERY new in My Hero Academia. As in, barely a few months new. So I’m pretty sure I ran into Dabihawks when I was looking for porn and was mostly unfamiliar with the characters.

Yeah, that’s another thing I should mention. I don’t normally read porn fics featuring characters I’m familiar with. Mostly for the stated above reasons.

But Dabihawks? That’s different.

MHA is the first fandom in which I can actually say that I ship non-canon pairings. That “yeah I can absolutely see that”.  And Dabihawks is the chief of them for reasons I don’t really get.

It should be everything I hate in a ship. My issue with the enemies to lovers thing is that very often those people don’t have a reason to become lovers, at least not the way I see it. I’m excluding AUs and stuff like that because your story, your playground, but Dabi and Hawks do not have an actual reason to get emotionally close to each other. It’s lies and zero trust and openly murderous intentions from both sides, and Dabi is a goddamn maniac (no I’m not using the medical definition of the term).

But this at the same time is what this makes this pairing work.

Dabi and Hawks feel fundamentally like very similar - or rather, parallel - people.

Normally, when taking an enemies to lovers dynamic, there are two main approaches that I see.

1) one of them is the victim of circumstance and the other person comes as some sort of saviour

This is a ship dynamic that I can see working, it has some tragic elements that work well for drama, puts both characters on a good and decent moral ground, and if written correctly can promote growth for them. When this becomes problematic is when this dynamic is shifted to “I can fix them”. When I’m not given sufficient reason to believe that “villain” person can become better.

Enter the second approach

2) Stockholm Syndrome - EDIT: I was told I was using the term wrong. They were right so I'm rephrasing it to "unhealthy attachment"

Excuse me if I wrote “Stockholm” wrong. Regarding the subject of “I can fix them”, I know just enough about relationships to know that this is a toxic mindset in real life. Many times the characters in these series get obsessed with the “villain” of the pairing, and likewise the villain becomes obsessed with the hero. However, in this case, instead of having a dynamic of “I want to offer a chance to help because I care about this person” and “I want to become better and I’m grateful to this person for giving me the chance to do so”, we instead have both characters adopting a far more toxic mindset. The hero feels less like “someone in love” and more like “someone with a guilt and/or superiority complex”. Likewise, the villain still acts with villainous intent. They want to lure the hero in. So in these pairings, the hero and the villain - the two sides of the enemies - do not share a common ground other than the battlefield.

And then there is OOC.

The thing about enemies to lovers pairings, particularly the seond type, is that one character needs to be the victim of the other character, or act wildly out-of-character for this to even happen. That’s why I oftenly associate enemies to lovers with manipulation to a certain degree.

Now, I admit my pool is... limited. My main encounters with such ships are all those “Harry Potter x Voldy/Draco/death eater here”, as well as some miscellaneous stuff like “Hibari Kyoya x Mukuro” or “Dark Marik x literally anyone” or “Aizen x Ichigo (wtf)”. Either the Draco in Leather Pants syndrom is in full strength, or this is going on.

So why do I find Dabihawks different?

Well, they’re both  in the same shoes, and they’re both the victim, and they’re both the manipulator.

Dabi and Hawks have an extremely personal, pre-established connection long before they even meet, said connection being Endeavor. And it’s not really in terms “I want to overcome this guy” but rather “this guy irrevocably changed my life and is connected to my family”.

There are far better analysis essays here on this, but Dabi and Hawks are defined by two very different versions of the same person. Dabi knows Endeavor as the monster who pretends to be a hero and never loved him as a parent, while to Hawks Endeavor is the proof that there is good in this world and saved him from his parent. Endeavor is the physical manifestation of how they perceive the world they live in. Dabi sees the worst of the hero society because he grew up in it, while Hawks has completely fallen for the glamorous image. For Dabi, the existence of pro-heroes among people is not a spectacle but an inescapable part of life; literally, he lived in the same house as one. Meanwhile, for Hawks it was such a spectacle that he did not believe it to be real. So they both start from the same point - Endeavor - and reach completely different conclusions. One of them thinks the world is fake, while the other thinks that miracles happen.

Another thing they both are parallels/mirrors/foils to each other is how exactly the abuse was for each of them. I’m trying to put this in terms of invisibility and expectation.

A core question in both their childhoods is “why was I born”. We see both of them being faced with this question as early as their toddler years. Both of them are undeniably too young to get existential like that. Here is the difference though; Dabi was clearly told exactly why he was born by his father, while Hawks’ own mother posed this question to him. So here again we have two different paths from the same starting point. Dabi already knew the answer but it was ripped away from him, while Hawks was asked to find the answer until it was shoved into his hands.

I’ll talk more about that later.

So, invisiblitity? Dabi and Hawks were invisible in their own house in different ways. At first, Dabi had ALL the attention on him but then it was ripped away along with the answer to the question “why I was born”. This caused instability in his life, like somone tore off his foundations. Dabi desires this stability back; he technically already knows the answer to the “why I was born” thing, so he believes that with thee attention he will get it back. He always, ALWAYS screams at people to look at him.

Hawks on the other hand thinks that being invisible is a good thing. Hawks knew he was unwanted from the very beginning, and since he could not leave, the best thing he could do was pretend he’s not there. Hawks doesn’t want to be seen. So he’s quite, inexpressive, and diverts attention away from him. Hawks wants the answer to the question “why I was born”, but he knows all too well that his parents won’t provide it, so he doesn’t seek them out.

And that is when they both are thrown into the exact opposite situation of their comfort zone.

Dabi is shoved - metaphorically - intoa world where everything is defined by secrecy. Limelight villainy - aka the villains who attack people in broad daylight - are in danger because they attract attention, and now Dabi is a villain who works in secret, even though his nature is to want ALL the spotlights on him.

Meanwhile, Hawks is thrown in the world where all the limelight will be on him, while he’s most confortable just disappearing.

Here we come back to Endeavor. With the Hero Comision, Hawks is shoven the answer of “why were you born” into his hands. Now, I’m not saying Endeavor has ties with the Hero Commision. Unlike what fanfiction claims, I really don’t think Endeavor wants much to do with them. But the important bit here is how Hawks preceives it. Hawks already thinks that heroes are fantastical guardian angels, and tols that he WILL be a hero.

So Dabi starts out with all the expectations and attention piled on him, only for them to be taken away and for him to be thrown in the shadows. While Hawks starts with nobody having any expectations or paying attention to him, and then he gets shoved to the spotlight.

And how do they react to the situation? Well, with the exact same way; putting on completely opposite but based on the truth masks. Dabi pretends not to be the massive attention seeker that he is and instead feigns apathy; except this apathy is only partially feigned because he only cares about one thing - it’s just not villainy itself, it’s a person. Hawks on the other hand pretends to be far more happy-go-lucky and friendly than he actually is, but that’s also partially based on a truth; he is optimistic to a fault (his words).

And this is a very simplified version of what makes this pairing work. When they collide, they collide HARD in every single area. Because every single area is a common area. Their lives match each other’s step for step long before they actually meet, so they have a lot of common ground, and the line in the sand between heroes and villains is not straight. It’s jagged as hell because they both got dragged through it.

So when they do finally meet, their oposite beats more or less forces the other to remove the mask. We see Hawks getting angry and laser focused and emotionless, killing someone in a location where no one could see. We see Dabi danceing around like a drama queen and laughing at the camera in front of the whole world. In a sense, tey are finally back in their comfort zones. And they had to collide to do it.

Dabi doesn’t want to be saved by the hero, and Hawks doesn’t want to save the villain. They do NOT trust each other, but know each other better than anyone else, because their lives are so close.

And I think their fight in canon perfectly reflects that. In a darkned, enclosed location like the ones they grew up in, with Hawks trying to keep something a secret while Dabi demanding that all eyes are on him.

And this is why I believe it works as a pairing. Yeah, there is a lot of symbolism and popular ship dynamics you could throw here (icarus and the sun, blonde and brunette except that’s a lie, sunny boy vs emo dude) but no. It’s how they force each other to be REAL and to look at the other side of their path that makes this ship work.

I read a fair bit of Dabihawks fanfiction, and it rarely starts with love at first sight or “I love this person”. Of course it fucking doesn’t. It starts with them actually considering murder, and then getting uncomfortable because the other person is getting under their skin. By taking a look at each other, they are forced to take a look at themselves. Because they have the exact same kind of baggage.

It’s also one of the reasons I think that this ship has so much variety in it. I read plenty of Dabihawks porn. A thing I find in slash fiction is that in a popular pairing, there is almost always a designated top and a designated bottom with designated preferences. Who will be the Uke and who will be the Seme of the relationship. I can’t believe I just wrote that. There is this general concept of what they’re into. But with Dabihawks, there isn’t such a pre-established concept because both sides of the pairing can fit any role. You can have anything from service dom Dabi to pillow princess Hawks to both of them being soft, or both being sadomaschohists, to switches, and who tops or bottoms in fiction is up to a coin toss. And it always feels in character because they both have this...zigzagging yet parallel dynamic, of having same yet different starting points, and moving at the same axis, taking turns at the same points.

So yeah. Not sure how to finish this but... yeah. Here is why I think this pairing works. Thanks for reading, if you did.

I love Ni-ki. I don't see him in that way exactly... I mean, I think he's a brat, he reminds me a lot of how JK was when he was younger. There's many parallels between the two even down to their habits (such as leaving the group chat on read). And bear in mind Ni-Ki is very young too. He's talented, legitimately the best dancer in his generation, and a stickler for details. But at the same time, he typically doesn't speak over his hyungs (often), he looks up to them, and respects them. But he's also a bit of a tsundere so he never says it to their face (it's usually in behinds or letters).

Anyway, I adore Ni-ki. This might be an unpopular opinion in general, but I don't mind arrogance. In fact I like it if the person can back it up. In my line of work which is male-dominated, if you know your shit you better say it. High performers deal with ego all the time, what matters is if they have the intelligence to communicate effectively and execute. All the Enhypen members have their pride, Ni-ki fits in well with them because they are a team of high performers.

Hello new followers!

A little bit about me :)

I’m Sammie. Some do know me by my dead name that shall not be mentioned lol.  I am originally from a remote Native reservation in northern Ontario, Canada, but now live in the southern part. More access to services for my kiddo :).  I am a single parent, two spirit person (First Nations Cree, Swampy to be exact, originally from treaty nine territory) and I have a teenage son with Mosaic Down Syndrome, non verbal Autism, and Stickler Syndrome.  When he was three, he suffered a near catastrophic brain injury because of a medical error.  If you ever notice posts mentioning G, that’s him :D

AU ask game

Well for comedy's sake it would probably be funner if the kid characters were all JHES faculty. Like:

- most of the kids are pretty easy to figure out: George could be the english teacher, Melvin the science teacher, Dressy the music teacher, etc. Erica is most likely the principal in this scenario, though her method of running the school is obviously less authoritarian and actually focuses on providing support for students.

- in typical swap AU fashion, the main character in this scenario is now young Benny Krupp, with adult George and Harold now switched to being his teachers. Benny retains his cynical stickler-for-the-rules attitude, meanwhile George and Harold are known as the "cool" teachers who are really laid back and actually try to make their classrooms into engaging learning environments.

- the way I'm picturing this AU going down is that it mainly centers on Benny dealing with starting fourth grade in the aftermath of his dad's death. Conflict could stem from him feeling like he has to grow up fast and put away his childhood because he has a bad case of Eldest Child Syndrome?

- (secretly, though, he remains a big fan of the wildly popular Captain Underpants comic book series, whose creator has kept their identity anonymous. Theories about this mystery author are a recurring background gag.)

- Jasper as a secondary protagonist? I can see him being Benny's voice of reason despite being a couple grades below him at JHES. And of course, Edith is still here as Benny's eventual best friend and crush, though in this AU their relationship would be treated more like puppy love than a full-fledged romance.

I Lack Sleep, Here's Some OC Writing PART II

BRIEF INFO ON MY OCS PART II

Anne-Marie is marginally better than Cain in her reading and verbal communication skills, probably because she got to spend more time with their mother when she was small.

Anne-Marie also loves animals but not with quite the same intensity as her brother- she is well aware that some animals are scary.

When it comes to being read to, Anne-Marie generally prefers picture books but doesn't mind more detailed stories.

Anne LOVES to dance. She will dance to almost any kind of music and loves it when it's "music night" in the living room.

Anne-Marie also really enjoys baking with her mom in the kitchen as soon as she's big enough to participate.

Anne is also generally a little bit more of a stickler for rules than even Cain. But if her brother can manage to convince her that some mischief needs doing, she will play lookout and warn him if someone is coming that might bust the operation.

Generally, Anne and Cain get along like good friends. But there is sometimes a little bit of dissension, usually stemming either from Anne obviously having had more time with mom from the start or from Anne having always been a favorite in the family (Cain had a rocky past with grandpa Drayton).

BUBBA X ROSETTE

How they met: Rosette and her remaining friends were speeding back home after their run-in with the Voodoo Priestess when, completely drained of their energy, they realized they needed to stop somewhere for the night in Muerto County, Texas. They thought they found an old, abandoned house and could not have been more wrong. Within just a few hours, Rosette was the sole survivor. Bubba found her hiding out, dragged her back to his butchering room and managed to saw off one of her legs. He was very surprised when she didn't die but instead just passed out, even more surprised when he found she was still alive the following day and that the leg had grown back somehow. Rosette was absolutely floored when she noticed her new leg but the fear of having another limb sawed off overtook her. Bubba of course showed Drayton the dismembered leg and pointed to the leg that had grown back in an effort to communicate to him that the limb seemed to have just grown back. Realizing this could be a reliable, renewable meat source for the family, Drayton had Bubba shackle Rosette up in the barn so she wouldn't be able to make an escape and also started barking orders for Bubba to take care of her. Over time, Rosette noticed how gentle Bubba could be once he got used to her and she found herself falling for him over it. Of course, it took even more time for Bubba to get used to someone wanting to touch him without hurting him in some way...

If you in any way attack the kids or Bubba, Rosette will make sure you feel the receiving end of one of her leather boots and soon.

Rosette sees the way that Drayton treats not only her from the start but also how he mistreats Bubba and she has a very deep-seated hatred of him over it.

Rosette loves to lay back on a couch or a bench and let Bubba rest his head on her chest and Bubba finds comfort in listening to her heartbeat while they just hold each other like that.

In bed though, Rosette will often lay her head on Bubba's chest and enjoy his heartbeat while he holds her close. Sometimes, even the people who have the energy to kick some ass still like to feel protected.

Once Bubba learns he can trust Rosette to touch him, Rosette is NOT shy about showing affection- she will throw her arms around him for a full hug, twine her arms around one of his arms and snuggle her face against it, lace her fingers with his and lead him by the hand to show him something or even take a running jump to throw her arms around his neck/shoulders and kiss him. Of course, Bubba literally melts under all of this.

Rosette is about 5'7" tall and Bubba is 6'6".

While he's holding her against him, Bubba might sometimes bury his nose in her hair to take in her scent- it calms him down some to smell her perfume.

Because Rosette is smaller/shorter, Bubba treats her very gently, even though he knows she's pretty tough. He is usually very concerned that he might accidentally hurt her if he hugs her too tight or holds her hand too strongly, etc. She's always giggling while she reminds him that he doesn't have to be quite so gentle and if he starts to make a glum face, she'll kiss him- on the mouth, on the cheek or the nose- to let him know she's not upset.

Sometimes, Bubba will come up from behind her, wrap his arms around her, rest his chin on her head and they'll both be smiling like fools.

Rosette tends to instigate kisses more than Bubba does but when Bubba does feel brave enough to attempt instigating a kiss with her, if it's on the mouth, he will gently pick her up before he presses his lips to hers. Other times, he'll bend a little to kiss her on the forehead or the cheek.

Rosette often becomes a shy, giggling mess for a few seconds after a kiss, one of the few times her tough facade gets broken up. Seeing her flushed cheeks often makes Bubba realize how hot his own face is, causing him to act quite shy himself with a goofy grin on his face. The feeling drives him crazy.

Bubba also particularly enjoys how small her hands seem against his own- it makes him feel motivated to do anything to keep her safe.

Sometimes, when Rosette and Bubba are just chilling together, she will sing for him or read to him but Bubba's favorite is when she sings. Her voice just makes him feel all giddy when she's in songbird mode. He will often try to ask her to sing for him via random questioning sounds and singing related gestures.

While Bubba is out doing chores/farm work/chasing down a victim, Rosette is often probably fixing up a large pitcher of sweet tea with ice and if she's done her chores and her usual amusements of reading, singing, talking with the nearest neighbors and taking walks seem unappealing, she might also bake pies or cakes or cookies as a snack for the family to go with the tea. Bubba is usually really excited to dive into anything she cooks or bakes but as far as baked treats go, his favorite is apple pie.

Rosette once remarked on how good Bubba looked in one of his favorite masks and it gave him an idea. He surprised Rosette later with a fleshy mask he attempted to fashion into the likeness of a rabbit. (Rosette loves rabbits and Bubba is well aware of this.) She does not usually wear masks... But she does put on her rabbit mask to show some support for Bubba when they happen to attract fresh victims (she does still get used as a meat source but not as often since becoming a Sawyer). Rosette will also keep a rolling pin on hand during those times, something to knock the victim(s) out cold, preventing their escape. Before knocking them out, however, she is probably the only Sawyer that will apologize- she's not doing it because she genuinely wants to, only so Drayton doesn't have to get after her or Bubba for letting someone get away. As soon as they're really out cold or dead, the mask comes off for her.

Bubba gets this warm, fuzzy, proud feeling when he sees her wearing the mask he made for her and helping them take someone out. Meanwhile, Bubba's shows of speed and strength at these times drive her pretty wild.

Something that both Rosette and Bubba love doing is going out behind the house to lay in the grass, cloudgaze and make each other flower crowns... Bubba thinks the delicate, colorful flowers really enhance Rosette's beauty and Rosette enjoys seeing Bubba's happy, shy reactions when she puts flowers in his hair.

Sometimes, Bubba catches Rosette doing things he finds dangerous and he can't stop himself from worrying or trying to stop her. For example, he may walk in on her in the kitchen, cutting up carrots for a stew and maybe he thinks she's cutting just a little too quickly, a little too close to her fingers... and he will panic a little. Rosette will usually stop for a moment, smile from the feeling of having someone care about her well being and calmly explain to him that the carrots have to be cut and she will promise him that she will be careful with the knife. If he's still not reassured, he will come up behind her, gently wrap his hand around her hand and the knife handle and make sure for himself that she does the cutting safely. At other times though, he may try to just take the knife, like if he finds her trying to play Five Finger Fillet, thinking she will hurt herself. But the truth is, she's played that game and won more times than she can remember... and sometimes, when Bubba isn't looking, she might challenge Nubbins or Chop-Top to it... Or Drayton, with the secret hope that one of those times, Drayton will cut his own finger off.

Rosette and Bubba often do each other's makeup or at least do their makeup together, although it's mostly just on days when they have "company" for dinner. The result is that Bubba looks like a very pretty lady and Rosette's rabbit mask takes on a sort of Alice in Wonderland vibe with eyeshadows, blush, lipstick and extra long, curled, dark lashes. When they're done, Rosette will look at herself and Bubba in the mirror, tell him how good they both look and then giggle while she nuzzles him with the rabbit nose.
