Okay so like i've been saying i headcanon Percy as a trans woman who's fully transitioned because of an ancient greek magic item called Metamorphose,which is food that's been blessed by Aphrodite to give the eater their dream apperance and thus works as basically hrt when it comes to trans people,so she's a lot more self-confident than in canon since that's what happens to irl transfems when they transition and i ship her with Jason so i have her immediately trying to rizz him up as soon as she realizes she likes him(and succeeding obvs).And with the context given now,i can finally show you guys this panel from the MOA graphic novel i found:

Diana Prince convinced the school to start a fencing league

Barry Allen slayed both track and any and all chemistry competitions thrown his way

Arthur Curry… I shouldn’t have to say anything about his swim team career. That’s where he met his wife

Bruce Wayne was one of the smartest people probably ever, especially to grace that building

Anyways so these people are famous, and they’re up on the walls and display cases and shit

The staff!! Was so thrilled!! To be getting their children!!!!

So.

Dick and Barbara are seniors. Dick is the cheer captain and Babs WAS on the team until a fun little accident that has her wheelchair-bound. (It’s fine, she discovered she actually likes computers better. She’d hacked the entire security system one day at lunch because she got bored)

Dick is kind of the queen bee of the school, which is hilarious, because he KNOWS but refuses to let it get to his head. This man will start water gun fights in the hallways for fun

Jason and Cass are juniors

Jason is one of the drama club’s absolute best (singing and acting). He played Billy Flynn in Chicago, Prince Charming in Cinderella, Aladdin in… yeah. He slays pretty hard

Cass is on the dance team and regularly misses class for some competition or another. Sometimes, when cheerleaders and the dance team collab on stuff (like assemblies), she actually likes the pompoms. She does not like the skirts.

Tim, Steph, and Duke are sophomores— people are s c a r e d of these three

Tim is known for constantly having a stockpile of energy drinks in his locker; sometimes a few of his friends get access to it. He’s also terrifyingly smart. And he’s got a bike. SOPHOMORE YEAR. TIM WHAT

Steph’s whole entire TikTok presence is lifting/ workout challenges against any poor scrub who tries to go up against her. She can lift the same amount as Jason Todd. That gives her a very confident “don’t fuck with me aura” around school, which is good, because she’s got zero interest in any guy there anyways (bi f pref queen)

And Duke… Duke is the golden boy, so the first time you see him in a sparring match with any of his siblings (they do that for fun at lunch), you’re very shocked to see him holding his own against Cassandra Cain and Stephanie Brown. He also slays

Damian is the only freshman in his family. Jason and Tim make fun of him endlessly

It is pretty impressive that a freshie organized the biggest fundraiser the school has ever seen— and it was for local animal shelters. Nobody knows how he did it. Probably intimidation. You never know with that kid

Now the superfam. Ohoho, yes, these legends go to that school too

Kara is a junior, Kon is a sophomore, Jon is a freshman. They’re all on the football team (their dad comes to every game🥰)

Did anybody expect a woman or freshman to land on the varsity team the first year either of them tried out? No. But they made it anyways. Good for them

And football is just so different from their day-to-day personalities, sometimes it gives people whiplash

Kara pretty much runs the broadcast and yearbook teams, and she does it along with dominating the football field and gym

Conner looks like he’d deck you for looking at him wrong (I mean he might but like he won’t… probably), and he’s like. He makes good fashion choices. He’s the Bad Boy, which is funny considering his nerdy bf is the one with the motorcycle

Jon is fluffy?? So nice?? Sir who let an actual decent person on the varsity football team?? When someone spots Dami wearing his letterman at some point, they become the most popular couple at school. As freshmen. Slay for them tbh

Donna Troy is a senior. Fencing and beauty pageants is a weird combination. But she knows she’s pretty and she’s gonna make damn sure everybody else knows too

Cassie is a freshie, but she’s already on the fencing team as well and several people have seen her sparring with Damian (wHERE did he get KATANAS), and it looks like a couple of war gods who happen to be fifteen are fighting to the death for a few yards of shitty grass behind the school

Conner Hawke, Artemis Crock, Emiko Queen, Roy Harper, and Mia Dearden are the archery team captains. Yeah, there’s five of them, yeah, the coaches couldn’t pick because the kIDS ARE BETTER THAN THEM

(Ollie laughed so hard he fell out of his chair when they came home and told him that)

Roy is a junior and definitely brings his bow everywhere he shouldn’t. He also “accidentally” shot Jason once. Whenever someone asks about their meetcute they just laugh until the person gets scared and runs away

Conner is a sophomore but a bitter old man in his soul. What a king

Artemis is also a sophomore and everyone thinks she’s Ollie’s favorite because she’s like a mini-him, but Ollie doesn’t actually HAVE a favorite and she finds this claim hilarious

Mia, third sophomore, has a very strange attraction to the color yellow. She LOVES it. And she actually pulls it off, how awesome is she

Emi is a freshman but gets along with Dami pretty well, which isn’t surprising considering their matching deadpan humor and lowkey murderous rage constantly

Jackson Hyde broke Arthur’s record for fastest lap on his fourth try. He spends more time at the ocean than literally anywhere else

Wally West and Bart Allen are technically not related?? They’re like. Cousins. But Barry ended up officially adopting Wally (long story)

The three of them DOMINATE track and field/ cross country/ physics club (yeah you read that last one right don’t even with me)

Wally is a senior and working towards becoming a forensic scientist for the cops. When someone asks why the fuck he wanted to do that to himself, he always jokes, “I’m not fast enough to be a serial killer so I guess I’ll help catch ‘em” and everyone is scared

Bart is a sophomore but should be a freshie, because he’s almost a full year younger, except that he skipped fifth grade and went straight to sixth. Tim and Kon pretend to be his adoptive parents and it’s like a soap opera watching these three act out a dramatic divorce arc

Jesse is a junior (alliteration go brr) but a younger one (summer birthday WOO) she definitely takes after Barry, especially in speed

SO people call their friend groups chaotic. What are you gonna do, go up and fuck with any of them? Bad idea

For fun, these assholes run a fight club after school with betting and rosters and everything, with anyone who signs up. FOR FUN. Once the batkids learned their dad has a black belt in like six different martial arts, it was all over

Do you have any other fic recs for your poison tree fans 🙏 it's dire out here

Anon, I KNOW. There are very few HoTD fics that I unabashedly like, and even fewer long form political ones.

But there’s some I can recommend.

I recently blitzed through Dragonskin by Missybee303 and it’s one of the few Aemond/OC fics I’ve actually really enjoyed. The premise seemed just a tad far fetched to me at the start but it completely earns it by the end. Jeyne, a farrier’s daughter and secret skinchanger in King’s Landing, encounters Aemond after Vhagar’s saddle breaks, and this changed the course of their lives and the Dance. The author clearly did their homework, and this is one of the few Dance fics that I’ve seen actually tackle the politics and emotions of the Dance based on the barebones F&B gives us, and it does it with grace and style. I loved loved loved the side characters the author built in (special shout out to Jeyne’s dad, Denys, who stole my heart and the show.) and how organically they meshed into canon. This the only long form Dance fic I can pretty unabashedly recommend, especially if you are interested in world building and wider ensembles. (It even avoids the over competent Aemond syndrome trap that so many show fics stumble into.) My one gripe is there is A Lot of smut, to the point that I was like “enough! Get back to the story!” But I know that will be a positive to many people, hahah. It’s almost done so you don’t have to worry about it being abandoned and it’s very long and satisfying.

I’m keeping an eye on Scorched Earth by 0Junebug0 which is a Rhaenyra’s daughter OC/Aemond fic. But wait!! Before you run away at this tired old premise, know that so far this has been primarily been a character study of the Team Black family dynamics, particularly how Rhaenyra would deal with a daughter and how being a Targaryen women is not all it’s cracked up to be. It’s only six (normal length) chapters at the moment but it updates frequently. As of the last chapter, Aemond has finally appeared on the scene, so I can’t speak to how the main pairing is going to play out, but I have high hopes. And the prose is genuinely very gorgeous and atmospheric, so if you are were drawn to “a poison tree” by the writing style, this might just hit the spot for you.

The oddball on this list is Salvation by Targresurgence, which is another Aemond/OC fic. Jeyne Hightower (wow, I really do believe in Jeyne supremacy in HoTD fics), the daughter of Ormund Hightower is sent to KL for Alicent to make her a match. Aemond decides that actually fuck all of that, his mom’s cousin deserves only the best (him) and shenanigans ensue. I like this fic, but it’s sometimes against my better judgement, but when it’s good, it’s good. I respect this fic primarily for the massive mommy issues it gives Aemond and Aegon II, and it’s attempts at worldbuilding that are a little hit or miss (but when it hits, it HITS). It also has one of my personal pet peeves in it, which is killing off Johanna or Elenda to make Jason or Borros into sexual threats to one of the female characters (why this is so popular, I do not know. Drives me bonkers) but that’s my nitpick. It IS a bit of a wonky fic in places, so fair warning on that, and prepare to suspend some disbelief. It is unfinished and hasn’t been updated in a little while, but it’s fanfic. Never give up hope.

If you are interested in more book canon and Alicent centric fics, I really like what we’ve gotten so far of The Heretical Education of Lady Alicent by @aifsaath. It’s part of a larger ongoing series, The Sky is Always Red Above Valyria, exploring various dynamics of book canon, with a heavy focus on Alicent, Aegon II, and Baela, but this one has to be my favourite. It’s also beautifully illustrated, so even though it’s only three chapters long at the moment, for sure check it out.

In the same breath, the joint work Our Father’s Clad in Red by @gwenllian-in-the-abbey and @aifsaath is a book canon Aegon II/Baela fic that explores the aftermath of the Dance and how House Targaryen is to rebuild in a world without dragons. If you like world building, psychological exploration, good prose, and gorgeous illustrations, this may just be the book canon fic for you.

A brief shoutout to signs amidst the starry mirth by xiaolongbaobei, because I know this one is very popular and gets recommended a lot (as it should). This is a fem!Aemond fic with very GRRM-esque writing and the most terrifying and well-thought out Daemon I think I’ve ever seen in a fic. I really love gender-bending fics that really think it through and this one just has a great prose style and is actually addressing the politics of the Dance.

Obligatory witchcraft in your lips by slaymond mention. This is Aemond/Sansa crack treated with deadly seriousness and somehow. It’s really really really good. Great writing style, on point characterization, I’m sure you’ve already seen this fic recommended somewhere.

…. I also kinda vibed with @charmtion’s Daemyra fics? I’m not a daemyra stan by any means, but I’ve loved charmtion since their Jonsa days, and I liked salt more than I thought I would. If you have an inkling of an inclination towards Daemyra as a pairing, check this out. They also have a Helaemond fic, thyme, if that’s more your speed. Charmtion has a very loose, vivid, dreamy style that I have just adored for ages, so I would not count these fics out at all.

And is it even an HoTD fic recommendation list without including the one and only See, What Happened Was… by the legendary @daylander1000? This Aemond/Rhaena fic asks the question “what if the Velaryons actually had plot and character relevance and also what if Aemond and Rhaena had the chance to be weird, slightly murderous children together?” One of my favorite depictions of Alicent and Criston to boot (especially since now Mine Was The Hand You Reached For by HaughtHightower appears to be deleted 😔). It’s not been updated in a while but the author is a very busy person and I’m very happy to let her take her time.

I’ve read a lot of HoTD fics by now and these are the ones that I’m like “other people should read these too actually.”

Oh! An addendum! If you are seriously looking for a long piece of fiction that deals with a succession crisis, you might want to read When Christ and His Saints Slept by Sharon Kay Penmen about the real history of the Anarchy, the civil war between Matilda and Stephen over the English crown that inspired the Dance of the Dragons in the first place. In this time of fandom drought, if you are a fan of “a poison tree,” you should seriously consider giving this book a read. It’s so good.

Eddie wondered what in hell did Chrissy Cunnigham, his mess shortstack of best friend, see in Steve Harrington of all people. Eddie was sure that if he seeked out "average" in the dictionary, the definition would come alongside Steve's high school portrait. That dude was every cliché of the book, but there was nothing in him that made him stand out. He wasn't the most handsome in the school, wasn't the best in his team, wasn't that charming, (wasn't also the greatest asshole either, thank god), and he was definitely not the smartest. Yet everyone seemed to be starstruck by that guy. Now, his best friend was in his net, too.

The thing is, she was crushing hard, he could tell. Like, whe was not sighing, or running after him, or telling Eddie how cute Steve was all the time, or cutting class to go see him training, but her eyes always spotted him like they were trained to fix on his silhouette. God, Chrissy didn't even tell Eddie that she liked Steve; Eddie just guessed it. Chrissy blushed one when he smiled politely at her, not looking at her longer than necessary, and just like that, Eddie knew.

And it fucking stings.

It stings for so many reasons.

For once, he's seen Chrissy. They've been best friends for years now, and he knew where she came from. He knows what she was taught at home, what she thought love was for so long until they had this heartfelt conversation in which Eddie's heart broke as he told her that love should not hurt.

He's been there for her, you know. He was the one to jump between Chrissy and his dad to avoid a second fucking slap, just because they were hanging out together. He was there, picking her up from a party she wasn't allowed to go just because she wanted to spend time with that little shit Jason that ditched her because he was too drunk that night and couldn't drive her home. He was there holding her hair when the guilt for eating was far too much to handle, and he was there holding her hand when she thought she wasn't strong enough to hold it inside.

He's been there when she had no friends but him all last year and not even talking about crushes or romances of any kind because she was done with it.

He was there now, looking at Chrissy too-good-for-literally-anyone-in-the-world Cunningham while she looked at Steve Harrington across the high school corridors, blushing and longing.

So yes, that situation actually fucking stung.

"Don't look at me like that," she said under her breath.

"I'm sorry, this painful pining is hard to miss," Eddie replied, smirking.

"It will go away," she shut her locker door, "you know always does."

"I just don't get it, tell me again why won't you talk to him?"

Chrissy rolled her eyes.

"Not this again."

"You have got a class together, righ? Go sit next to him in French-"

"It's Spanish."

"-and just talk to him, go for the weather, talk shit about some teachers, find a common thing to hate, you know, he looks like he masters shallow conversations."

"Wow, that's not rude at all."

Eddie held a laughter.

"I'm just saying," Eddie put himself in front of her, "that you've got nothing to be afraid of. You're cute, you just became a cheerleader (you can talk him about that, too), you're smart and if he doesn't like you back he's more of an ass than I though."

Chrissy considered, looking at him from below with those impossible huge eyes of the colour of the rain. Eddie suddenly zipped up her jacket and she backed up, laughing and gently shoving him off.

"He doesn't even know that I exist," she said, speaking under the layer of thick fabric of the jacket, fit for Hawkins winters.

Chrissy readjusted her jacket and looked at Steve's direction once more. She stiffened when Steve and his group were crossing the corridor, coming their direction. And Steve had the grace of actually, actually, mutting "hi there" at Chrissy as he passed by, with a killer smile.

Eddie rolled his eyes so hard he saw little orange dots for ten seconds straight.

"You were saying?"

❝ Drew Phillipa was a pretty normal teenage boy. He'd grown up on Riverdale's Northside, in a decently nice house, with two parents who loved and always supported him. He was a starter on the Riverdale High basketball team. He earned pretty good grades, hung out with his teammates and best friend Jughead in his spare time, and, occasionally, made out with a sexuality-questioning Archie Andrews in various alleyways and empty classrooms.

(Okay, so maybe that last part wasn't super normal, but given that nobody but he and Archie knew about it, Drew figured it didn't have to count in the analysis of his life.)

But it would seem that normal things aren't meant to last in the town of Riverdale, because over the past few months, Drew's world had gotten turned upside down more than a few times. First there was the murder of Jason Blossom, whom Drew had also made out with a few times before he'd gotten engaged to Polly Cooper. Then there was the investigation that Jughead had been roped into, the revelation that Jason's own father had killed him and that Jughead's dad, who was also a gang leader, had been involved in it, and then Clifford's Blossom's subsequent suicide and Cheryl Blossom's burning down of her family's mansion.

And then, to top it all off, Drew's loving, supportive parents are killed in a car accident shortly after FP Jones's conviction.

Now, several months after his parents' joint funeral, Drew is finally moving to the Southside to live with his aunt and uncle alongside his best friend. Jughead seems reluctant to associate with the Southside Serpents, the gang his father formerly led, but Drew is smarter than that; he knows that two former Northsiders like them are going to need protection if they want to survive here. Unfortunately, the Serpents at Southside High see Drew as nothing more than a naïve Northsiders trying to join a gang to be cool, and basically refuse to take Drew on as a member unless FP Jones's son will join with him. And Jughead seems intent on staying a loner.

Still, Drew is determined to charm his way into the crew of teenage Serpents - especially when he sees how cute their leader is. Fangs Fogarty doesn't seem to think anything more of Drew than the rest of his friends, but Drew is nothing if not determined to worm his way into the boy's good graces and gain the protection he can't help feeling like he'll need.

Fighting with his best friend, living in a world without his parents, actively trying to join a gang, and slowly falling for said gang's leader... yeah, Drew's fairly sure he's now the exact opposite of a pretty normal teenage boy. ❞

Darkest Hour fails in so many ways. They keep harping on it being the biggest PR event ever, and technically that's probably true as far as the level of the villain and character body count, but the stakes feel small and impersonal. There are too many people, unnecessary subplots, fan service that goes nowhere, motivations are unclear or nonexistent, Dark Specter isn't remotely scary, etc. This event lacks a true anchor point, so it feels random and rushed.

For sure when they mean "biggest PR event ever" it's really only that in terms of issue length. Which is why it's so frustrating that we've barely gotten the emotional depth that this event clearly wants to have; when it's getting over a year of space to fill

Like at this point I'm pretty sure the event wants the cycle of abuse to be the anchor point/emotional core, as it's been brought up to Rita in regards to Master Vile and Dark Specter by Grace and Tommy, the thing with Chloe and her dad, and POSSIBLY DrakkonSlayer (depending on how their confrontation goes), but yeah; it's bogged down by all of these characters and subplots that in no way fit that theme. What does Zedd getting Ranger powers have to do with anything? What does Taylor or Dayne? Why are all the Hyperforce team members still here when all we need are Chloe and Jack? Even the main rangers themselves; all Zack and Trini have gotten so far is their flirting, Yale and Harturian Kid have been nothing, Rocky and Adam were corrupted immediately, and Aisha's there to be M.tt's therapist. Tommy, Kim, Billy, Drakkon, Slayer, and M.tt have been the only ones with real connection to this narrative (and M.tt only by way of being a watered down Green With Evil copy.) Shattered Grid wasn't perfect but the similarities between the two events really highlight how Shattered Grid succeeded where Darkest Hour isn't

(Also as an aside, it bugs me a little that when talking about abusive parental figures, they decide to focus on the intergalactic warlords and Power Rangers Satan as examples, but Jason's dad is excused. I know it's unintentional but I don't like the books saying Jason's dad was just giving him "tough love" just because he wasn't physically beating him like Dark Specter did to Spa'ark.)

Literally cannot put into words how much i hate bisexual Percy Jackson hcs.It NEVER uses guys who're actually good enough for Percy and just narrows in on the ones she hates instead and rightfully so on her part seeing as she's only 18 and they were all grown from the start of the saga and as a young adult too,she shouldn't be dating anyone over 23 with her current age,much less someone who she hasn't actually interacted with when grown as she is now and sorry to have to break it to you but all 'evidence' you use to say she's 'canonically super into men' is taken out of context deliberately

Her describing Ares as 'handsome,i guess' was a backhanded compliment about how he fits so much into male attractiveness standards she finds him offputting and she says 'but wicked' afterwards and 'cruelest,most brutal face she'd ever seen' beforehand which confirms this.Her calling Zeus' expression 'proud and handsome and grim' is a common familial thing said about older family members.She straight up said Mr D is 'not that handsome' and that Hermes nose 'isn't that big' that implies she thinks it makes him ugly.She uses the 'handsome,i guess' line a second time about Annabeth's dad followed by 'for an older guy' so it's canon she dosen't find older men hot.This applies to Apollo too since she never calls his conventional hotness a good thing and instead uses it to emphasize what a loser she thinks he is and that he creeps her out.And for Luke,y'all's 'defitinive proof':The only instence of her implying he's attractive to her is 'not at all handsome' when he betrayed her so any potential crush was lost on her part after the whole college aged man beating on an extremely lonely 12 year old he'd groomed into trusting him incident

The only instance of her showing legit textual attraction to boys is her best friendship with Jason and the most standout example is her being in a dreamy dazed state as she compares him to Superman.I know you guys hyperfixate on the blonde part but the truth is anyone with reading comprehension can tell you his positive and healthy masculinity a la Superman's is what actually made her flustered and there's a reason she never compares him to Luke or Annabeth throught their many interactions,it being Percy dosen't have an actual type unless we count people who treat her well and saying 'she has a thing for blondes' is factually incorrect because her loving Rachel was canon but no blonde crushes except Annabeth were.Another thing that IS canon is that Percy considers Luke's treatment of her to be traumatizing and further proof that adults ain't shit and what inspired her to be better to troubled kids like she used to be than them as we see with Nico and Hazel and her being their punk mentor and pseudo-mom instead of a fascist and pedophile

steph is charlie, our drummer. she’s under a lot of pressure from her dad to do the right thing, be the right person. he’s had her on the soccer team her whole life, even though she fucking hates it. she’s played drums since she was a kid, when a music teacher caught her adhd ten miles away and suggested using the sticks to stim. it’s her passion, but her dad doesn’t give a shit.

ruth is stella, lead guitar. her family just moved for her dad’s job, and her mom is pressuring her to be more behaved at a new school. she’s never fit in with her family’s traditional values, the young housewife, concerningly older husband, five kids, stay at home mom, purity, misogynistic shit. her parents refused to buy her a guitar so she slowly stole from her brothers allowance for years until she had enough to buy her own.

richie is wen, keyboardist. he learned to play classical piano as a kid with his mom, but he hasn’t played ever since his dad died a few years ago. he’s still dealing with his grief but his mother as figured out how to manage hers and found a new boyfriend, and he’s not dealing with it well.

grace is mo, the bassist. she comes from a very strict christian family, who would never let her play music like that. she plays the chello in the school orchestra, aces all her classes, everything. she’s scared to deviate from her family’s plan for her. not because she doesn’t believe in god, but because she wants to be a regular american teenager.

which leaves peter as olivia, our lead singer. he was in dance classes a kid and had an absolute breakdown freak out of stage at a school dance recital, which left him relentlessly bullied his whole life. he writes music as an escape but would never consider singing for anyone else. he’s got severe performance anxiety. he lives with his older brother, and has since he transitioned at 11 and his parents threw him out. recently, his mom has been trying to get back in touch with him.

the rival band of mudslide crush becomes jäeger and the man, with max in the lead. kyle and jason are back up, and the three are all also football stars, making for rulers of the school. jason has been flirting with grace semi-innocently (for the standards of anyone but her) for a little while, and she’s going along with it bc she’s having a crisis of self.

on ruth’s first day, she gets in trouble for calling the principal a sexist motherfucker. the same day, steph loses her cool and chucks a soccer ball at the head of a girl who was bullying hannah foster, the only freshman who made it on the varsity team. jason keeps grace in the hallway after the bell rings to try and ask her out, but she freaks out and gets caught in the hall running away from him. richie called a teacher stupid. peter gets caught having lunch in a custodial closet.

which leads all of them to detention. the music room they are sentences to has an ancient rickety lemonade machine just outside. a can for a quarter: ziggy’s lemonade.

the music teacher, miss holiday, is running their detention and leaves them with cleaning suppies and a room full of instruments. steph starts drumming on the desk, and richie tosses around some keys he’s putting away. ruth recognizes a rhythm between the two, domino effect, and they start playing some of the instruments. steph sits at the drums, and ruth picks up a guitar. richie and grace are both hesitant, richie for having not played in a while and grace for not wanting to get in any more trouble than she needs to, but they both join. they make a nice beat and peter finds himself singing in front of someone other than ted since he was a kid.

miss holiday returns and tells them they are a fantastic band, which leads them to all scatter and i is it they aren’t even really musicians. she pushes them to consider trying out for the rising star competition at the honey festival. they all deny, but ruth pushes them to give it a try.

they do so, but it doesn’t work out immediately. it takes them a little time to find their sound, but boy do they find it. ruth signs up to perform at homecoming, splitting the show time of jäeger and the man in half. they’re pissed, and max starts terrorizing them. they all band together to stand up for each other, and steph ends up spitting some of her lemonade at max when he’s attacking pete, and he calls her “lemonade mouth”

not great as far as insults, but band names? it’s one of the best.

they’re scheduled to perform at homecoming, but peter has a panic attack and locks himself in a bathroom stall. they coax him out and they do perform, to so much cheering. they sing a song that peter wrote (determinate) and get halfway through a song with ruth’s lyrics about rebellion and shit when the principal shuts them down.

everyone fucking loved them though. there was a kid who recorded the set and made it into a cd, which sells like crazy. at one point richie peter and ruth are hanging out at peters apartment and hear their song on the radio. they call steph and grace and all get so excited, and then get offered a standing once a week set at pizza pete’s.

everything’s going well, and they even think they might win rising star, when it all falls apart for them separately. richie finds out his mom is engaged and loses his mind, tries to run out of the house, and runs directly into max. he provoked him and comes out with a black eye. steph breaks some of her fingers in a fit of frustration (slammed them in drawers she was slamming on accident). grace gets super sick just before the competitions and ruth is more concerned with the fact that the lemonade machine is being removed than the competition.

pete suggests to steph maybe just giving up, and she gets mad at him for not caring. he says he never even wanted to do this, and when she asks why, he yells at her that’s it’s because he’s been into her for years. he loses his voice in the process and goes home. ruth calls them all to come protest the removal the ziggy’s machine, which gets them all arrested.

steph’s dad is pissed, ted thinks it’s hilarious, richie’s mom and him have a heart to heart about emotions and being a teenager, ruth gets saved when her older brother picks her up instead of her parents. grace is in real trouble, but confronts her parents about how being reckless and having fun with friends doesn’t mean she hates god. she can be a christian and still have a life, and they agree.

the rising star competition is a joke, max’s band kills it, and they can’t even really perform. but they try, and when they fail, hannah foster in the crowd stands up and starts singing determinate. everyone joins her, even doing the dance that they preform with it. they’re a real band, even if they didn’t win rising star.

they keep playing at pizza petes for a while, all the while writing songs. steph and pete get together, and grace realizes she’s aromantic. ruth gets a gf who’s a fan of the band, richie finally gets the courage to ask out long time crush, trevor, who works at the cineplex. richie’s mom marries her boyfriend, where steph finds herself, on total coincidence, sat next to ziggs.

ziggs is the friend of the girlfriend of richie’s uncle, which somehow led to an invite to the wedding. they talk to steph about a lot, including the band. the group talks them into donating a shit ton of money to the school to save the arts department.

while continuing on and preforming, they get found and offered a record deal. they make an album and release it just as they finish high school. it goes absolutely viral. they shoot ip the charts and make so much money. in less than a year of the band being formed, they’re selling a sold out show to madison square garden.

peter writes a letter to his mom explaining how it all happened, and explaining that he appreciates the attempt but has no desire to stay in contact with her. they he goes to msg and performs his music with his people.

Hullo. May I ask why Dick is blorbo? No real reason, I'm just a curious and nosy follower :D

1. Young Justice - this show was a big reason why I got back into DC, and when I was younger, Dick and Artemis were my favorite characters because they were humans among superhuman people, and I found that neat. Young Justice season 3 I liked Dicks character arc and also-

2. I'm a sucker for sadboys. I think characters look better with a bit of blood on their faces. Connecting back to young justice season 3, Dick is a major sadboy 😅 shortly after watching season 3 of young justice, i started working 60-70 hour weeks (just for 1 summer) and to get through the day i would make up stories about how i thought Dicks season 4 arcs would go (this really cemented him as blorbo)

3. An irl friend was also into young justice, she got into batfam stuff, I'd never read fanfic before, and seeing her read it at first i was like "pffft i wouldn't get into that lame stuff" and lo and behold i got curious and spiraled. There's a looooot of sadboy Dick fics out there. Like. A lot. But yeah i started out as a batfam stan rather than a titans one, and in my heart i love both and theres an internal battle that wages within me

4. At the same time (or before?) i started reading fics, i also got into the comics from Young Justice. Part of the reason i like Dick is because there's literally just so much content i can read, and i started reading and rereading his solo runs and eventually branched out into titans comics. Not all his comics appearances are good, but I like having a lot of content 😅 it helps spark ideas and gives me "i can fix it" disease

5. His relationships with people!!!! A core reason of why I love the character is all the great relationships he's had across canon. He's a big brother/mentor to Tim and Damian (with Tim i love the image of infallibility Dick has, and his slow fall off the pedestal, and with Damian they start at the bottom and build things up from scratch - i love how he has to earn Damians respect by putting in the work). His relationship with Jason especially pre-reboot is a gold mind of agnst (like. Little brother dies while you're in space and your dad doesn't bother inviting you to the funeral *screams* and blames you for his death to some extent) - the way he knew Jason and they got along fine, though they didn't interact like a ton (i see it as like. Older sibling who's in college) and then one day he's just gone, then comes back and wants to kill you and is so blinded by revenge on your dead father he will destroy everything in his path is just, so much potential here. His relationship with Bruce makes me scream. I liked the few interactions he has with Cass before she got yeeted by DC. And moving outside the family, the found family aspect of the Titans i literally love so much. I cherish his friendship with Donna, I'm a big fan of platonic m/f relationships being given importance and weight, plus again the whole "i love angst" thing was on fire when she dies. I love his relationship with Roy, the way they push one another and butt heads while still deeply trusting one another + the thinly veiled sexual tension between them (i say thinly veiled because Grace literally points it out in Outsiders). His friendship with Wally is also fun, i like reading their team ups. There's so many characters that he interacts with it just sets up so many possible stories, and i love how interconnected he is in the superhero community

6. Man vs world. I like that Dick is a (mostly - everyone has flaws, and Dick does fuck up in canon) well intentioned person struggling against the injustices of the world. That's the long way of saying "i like him because he's a hero". But part of that is like - a lot of his battles narratively fall into man vs world (especially in his solos), with a bit of man vs self here and there, and i like these categories. Most of his conflict is external, and while i like some internal conflict, i get a little bit bored when characters in comics are too introspective - like some of this i don't mind, bonus points if the internal and external conflicts are aligned in a satisfactory way, but DC comics only lets characters grow so much, so introspective stuff can get repetitive imo

There's probably more reasons but this is what i can think of off the top of my head

This short story is angst with a happy ending.

Tw. For mostly shity parents and all that jazz.

You would think Jason had a happy, normal life by the white picket fence and the dog outside. I mean they went to church every Sunday and had a family dinner every Friday but the outside can betray what's happening on this inside.

Robert Carver, nasty son of a bitch to the point his own wife was terrified of him. Everyone in Hawkins thought he was the sweetest man because he was the town pastor but boy it was far from the truth. Mrs. Carver always served dinner with a shaky hands because one wrong move sets him off, he will just sit there reading the paper. Jason remembers he would run into the room for dinner so excited, how his mother would glare at him because there mood couldn't be happier than dear old Robert.

"Oh look the crowned prince has arrived for a drive by."

Jason remembers putting his head down feeling like he did something wrong, he remembers wanting to check his watch seeing if he was just a little late but he was good. He kept quiet not saying anything to piss off his dad.

"Well Rob, he was just washing up like you asked."

Her voice was shaky like she was afraid, that he would start yelling it was obvious Jason was to because he was slightly shaking.

"So who would like to say grace."

His mothers voice finally managed to go steady, Jason didn't say anything because he was terrified to open his mouth so he just kept quiet.

"To hell with grace, we do it enough as it is at church just pass me the biscuits."

Jason went to pass them he accidently knocked his glass off the table, he heard it hit the floor, he heard as the glass shattered. He could hear his mother make a sound most likely out of fear of what Robert would do. He just slowly closed his paper, putting it on the table.

"I'm sorry."

Jason said it out of fear, he was absolutely terrified he knew how bad his fathers temper could get.

"What is wrong with you?"

"I don't know, I'm sorry."

Jason's mother had started to clean up the mess, either she didn't want to defend her son or she was just to scared.

"You break everything you touch."

"Let's just have a nice supper okay."

Jason remembers being surprised his mother actually spoke out for once, he also remembers how much of a mistake that was.

"Nice supper?"

Jason remembers him throwing his plate on the floor like a misbehaving child.

"There's your nice supper."

Jason remembers the man taking a drink of his whiskey glaring at his wife like she was the cause of everything.

"I get no respect in this house, none at all."

Jason remembers seeing his mother desperately trying to clean up the mess with her hands, to fix the mistake before Robert lost his temper.

"It's fine, it will just take a second."

His mother had said well trying to clean the mess with nothing but her hands. Well good old Robert just opened a whiskey bottle and pour himself another glass.

"You just gonna sit there, get a broom or something."

Jason remembers doing immediately as he was told, he darted out of his seat as fast as he could maybe that's why he's the fastest one on the basketball team. He remembers dear old Robert standing up and going to his mother.

"You wanna know why he's like that, because you let him do whatever he wants."

"It's okay, everything is okay you just relax have another drink."

"Don't tell me what to do."

Jason remembers just standing there just frozen, he wanted to help his mother because she didn't do anything wrong. She just sorta acted like everything was okay when it really really wasn't.

"No, wait please no."

Jason remembers him hitting her, how he flinched but didn't do anything to help defend her. But then he remembers her turning on him to save her own ass.

"Why do you always provoke him?"

"Because he's a bad kid. That's why."

Jason learned something that day, that he wasn't their miracle he was their burden the reason their marriage failed. Because he was born from two people who absolutely hated each other, I guess that's why he tried making things work with Chrissy because he wanted to be different from his father.

But he just turned into a angrier version of him, he turned into the person he never wanted to be. I guess that's why he hated Eddie because Eddie got out, he had his uncle to run to. Jason didn't have anyone he had to deal with his parents day in and day out. That's why he took his frustrations and problems out on Eddie because he wanted to be him.

He doesn't even realize he's in his head, not intill the gentle hands of his ex girlfriend brought him back. He could feel red hot pain his hand, he cut his hand. No their was a piece of glass in his hand, he could feel as Chance carefully removed it. He felt as Wayne grabbed his hand looking at it.

"You're gonna be okay kiddo, you will live I can sitch it up for you. Eddie first aid kit second bathroom cabinet."

Jason could hear Steve and Robin arguing in the other room.

"He could get tetanus or something."

"That's a rusted fence Robin, he's gonna be fine."

Jason found himself laughing softly, he could hear Eddie destroying the bathroom looking for the first aid kit. He felt Chrissy gently wiping his tears.

"You okay?"

Jason just nodded, he smiles at her putting his head to hers. Jason looks towards Wayne who was using a dish rag to get the cut to stop bleeding.

"I'm really sorry about your glass, I kinda break everything I touch."

Wayne looked at him wondering what he was on about, he just shrugs.

"Kid it's okay really you don't need to keep saying sorry besides those glasses were a wedding gift and that marriage didn't even last long you honestly did me a favor."

Jason at this moment realized that this was what family was supposed to be like, with Robin and Steve playfully arguing. Andy passed out on the couch with Gareth and Jeff fanning him with a magazine because he saw just a little bit of blood. Chance and Chrissy staring at him worried about him and then Eddie destroying the bathroom well Wayne holds his hand together. Jason snapped back just as Wayne looks towards Steve.

"Steve, go help my idiot nephew."

Eddie could be heard from the bathroom struggling.

"Hey I heard that, words can hurt."

Robin could be heard laughing before she smacked Steve on the shoulder.

"Go help your idiot boyfriend."

"He's not my boyfriend."

Jason shook his head, he looked towards Chrissy knowing she knew what was up with him.

"It's okay now, we won't hurt you."

Jason nodded he trusted them way more than he trusted his actual family, he thinks one day he can eventually let these people into his life.
