The thing is , ATLA live action is like…an approximation of what the story is actually supposed to be.
There are elements that good, even really good, but it leaves you feeling hollow because it’s missing the heart of what ATLA is about. It’s a delicate balancing act between tragedy and comedy, underscored with hope.
The live action is sort of reminiscent of Ember Island players because it’s trying to be as -real- as it can be but doesn’t delve into deeper meaning.
To me, it felt like they wrote the story with thinking about the end too much. They were too wrapped up in how these characters end up, how the story ends. They overlooked how raw, how unpolished it was at the beginning.

I was reading your blurb about Uvogin deciding to spare reader at the last minute in the night club. He tells himself it's just because he wants to sleep with her....but what happens after that? Surely he's not going to just let her go? Does he catch actual feelings?
I would imagine Uvogin would keep a darling for a while, telling himself and them that eventually he’ll just let them go (kill them, probably), but only after he’s had his fun with them. It won’t take long for him to decide against eventually killing them, but it’ll take longer for him to realise he isn’t planning on letting them leave him, ever.
Maybe he’ll come home to them in his shirt, one that is way too big and just falls off of their shoulders. Maybe he’ll catch himself gently caressing the length of their hair while they’re asleep, instead of tearing at their clothes. Maybe he’ll hear them giggle for the first time, probably at some shitty movie he stole for them to watch, and he’ll find his eyes locking in on their face and his chest feeling warm.
It’ll take a while for Uvogin to realise that he wants you for much more than being some toy for him to take his frustrations out on, but when he does it’ll only make you all the more trapped to him.
He’d never thought he’d do something as ridiculous as fall in love with someone, but he’d imagined if he ever did it would be with someone strong, someone not like you. It takes him some time to see you as something other than a little pet that he can at most teach tricks to and stroke when he’s bored.
You make him feel things he has never felt before. He’s not sure if he likes it, the feeling of being vulnerable for the first time in his life - the knowledge that he actually has something to lose.

here is another silly thing about alphinaud. is that he loves to Get information he’s like a little information magpie but as soon as he gets it he latches onto it for the next several days to weeks. he finds out that spending money is something you need to be careful about he’s going to bring it up and be extra frugal every time he buys something for a week. he learns how to collect firewood he’s going to volunteer for it as if he is already very good at it and knows a lot about it. alphinaud is the kind of person to learn a fun relevant fact about birds and tell you, as soon as it comes up, this fun fact about birds that he’s been dying to tell someone for hours. someone let him infodump about social policy

As far as character progression goes, I'd argue that the most important aspect of the RLJ reveal isn't just Jon learning that he isn't Ned's son. The most important part is him learning that he isn't Ned Stark's bastard son. He's spent all his life chasing after Ned's shadow, trying to prove to himself and to the world that he is worthy of being Ned Stark's son, "let them say that Eddard Stark had fathered four sons not three", “he was not a Stark but he could die like one” and all that. He's internalized the shame of being the one stain on honorable Ned Starks' reputation
“But it’s a lie,” Jon insisted. How could they think his father was a traitor, had they all gone mad? Lord Eddard Stark would never dishonor himself … would he?
He fathered a bastard, a small voice whispered inside him. Where was the honor in that? And your mother, what of her? He will not even speak her name.
So it's important for him to finally stop chasing after that elusive shadow. It's important for him to understand that Ned's dishonor was a deliberate choice that he made by himself, and it's thus no fault of his own. Once Jon internalizes that, then he can finally move on and ask himself, who am I? What do I want for myself? What can I be in this world, just as I am? So far, he's been unable to do that successfully because he still has an incomplete (and false) understanding of who he is.

such a firm believer that the jb courting stage is gonna be SO awkward and excruciating that it’s almost amusing. like brienne trying sooo hard to be casual about it but she gets so flustered by the little things he does, and she’d want to do Stuff for him bc her love language is acts of service but HE’S not used to that so he’s like ?? not to mention that that’s also his love language as well so its both of them going like stop fussing and let ME do that for you. I also think jaime is affectionate and would looooove pda but brienne clams up bc she’s not used to that yet. like the most she can do is hand holding but I think even that would leave her sweating and with a severe tummy ache
anyway to me the initial stage of the jb courting is sooo awkward and physically painful and CRINGE but once they’re more comfy they’ll go back to bickering
