Can I ask for your AFTG characters ranking? Or your top 10?

Hii this has been sitting in my inbox for days I’m so sorry😭😭 college is killing me

This more like a list of who I wanna see more of in the future but here we go:

1. Jean —> idk when or how it started but he’s been living rent free in my head for months. He has all my favorite tropes.

2. Neil —> he’s like my first born I was OBSESSED with him and I still am but yk JEAN

3. Jeremy —> if he didn’t have a POV or if he had been just a regular sunshiny guy he wouldn’t have made it this high but he’s so MYSTERIOUS and LOVING.

4. Kevin—> Most complex character along with Jean, he will always intrigue me. Broken chosen one trope. Him and Jean are the characters that affect my brain chemistry the most, and for the worse.

5. Cat—> she has my name and ethnicity so. Even though she’s just a regular cute lesbian I just can’t help but love her big sis role to Jean.

6. Andrew —> I used to love him more I swear. Pre TSC he would have made it top 3. But my priorities have changed and if you pay attention this is a Jean protection squad list now

7. Renee and Allison —> they share this spot cause I love Allison’ mean rich gurl attitude and scenes and the story with her janitor grandpa🥺 but she’s not very relevant. And while I found Renee kinda mid and bland in the og trilogy (cause she was always calm and under control, and was very religious) I loved her in the extra stories (her calmness finally broke when she saw Jean) and in TSC. I love her role in Jean’s story.

8. Aaron —> I like him but only for his dynamic (angst) with Andrew and aversion to Neil. Other than being cynical and (rightfully sad).

9. Matt and Dan. —> I like them too mostly for caring about Neil right off the bat but I’m not really interested in them.

9. Nicky —> My least favorite fox. He’s very loving to Andrew and Aaron and I really appreciate him for that. Butttttt he was very weird in the first book and he kept making some weird comments about his younger cousin who just was SAd and I know those were other times but still. He’s a good cousin tho.

as someone who read tfc for the first time almost 10 years ago and is having a blast with tsc and the series revival i'm very curious to know if you have any thoughts/opinions on the books/the story on it. (btw, i love your work so much!!! came for one of your lovely sanjis and stayed for everything else you made)

I’ll TL;DR at the end because I have a lot of thoughts on AFTG and am taking this opportunity to yap lol

I’ll preface this with a few things just so my opinions exist within a specific context rather than like, a biasless void:

1. I read the series only to be in a similar fandom space with a friend of mine. She enjoys it a lot, and I enjoy her brain a lot, so even if I didn’t care for the series I would be at least One Foot in through the door of the AFTG world because I really love her characterization and takes and analysis etc etc you get the gist - I have an INCREDIBLY curated space to talk about it and the vast majority of my enjoyment for the series comes from that

2. I personally, have a few gripes here and there with Nora Sakavics writing. I think she’s a good writer pretty consistently and an Excellent one in certain scenes, so I don’t mean this as a slight to her skill, rather just establishing my bias of not really being the biggest fan of the way she deals with certain topics and the way she structures her story. This is totally a personal preference though, I can’t stress that enough

3. I haven’t read TSC yet, and either avoid or haven’t gotten around to reading Nora’s extra snippets and points of characterization outside of what exists in the books. Like I refuse to accept Andreil cat names sort of thing. Lol.

OK-

I’ll start with the stuff I like:

1. I looooveeeeeee… love these characters deeply. The Foxes are so cute and awesome and I like that their general vibe is “they hate each other but they hate everyone else more.” I know the principles of the Foxes is that they’re found family, and I get that, but I’m happy Nora wasn’t afraid of making them antagonistic or abrasive with each other, and that it doesn’t become a “and then, through Neil’s efforts, they all REALLY get along !!!” Like. Seth and Kevin actively hating each other, and Kevin not backpedaling on that when Seth dies, was both terrifying and engrossing, because it made me realize just how much smaller their already small circle becomes. Dan is so fun, Matt is so fun, Allison is SooooooOooOOOOOO Awesome. Jeremy was lovable from the get go. I like all the characters - I care for their… character sheet? More than I care about the story, if that makes sense?

2. To be honest I was less positive about it at first but I actually love this invention of a sport LOL the name is cool too… Exy…

3. I genuinely think Nora is Good at making scenes exciting and giving you that “jaw drop” moment with exactly the amount of fanfare the scene needs. It was intensely enjoyable to read AFTG because I was Constantly feeling something and wanting to see how something unravelled, and I didn’t know when she would Drop That Big Moment next. AFTG is a lot of great things, but if I had to choose one thing, it would be how great Nora was at making me antsy about what comes next.

4. It’s funny. OK! IT’S FUNNY! I laughed a bunch of times. It Has Funny Dialogue. Early Andrew made me crack up multiple times and the way his general actions were written were perfect LOL

5. Generally really happy that Nora wasn’t afraid of pulling any punches with the themes presented in the story. Very tragic and intense! I’m always eager to read content that is willing to explore that stuff so I’m happy the book Had That to the degree that it did

6. It has Nicky Hemmick and Kevin Day in it. I am obsessed with both of them.

And then there’s stuff I’m in the middle about, where I like it sometimes and I don’t at other times. It’s up in the air, I can make a case for not liking and make a case for loving it:

1. Neil not describing anyone’s physical appearance properly like. Ever. And I don’t know if this is a Nora thing or if this is a Neil thing, if that makes sense. Because on one hand, I’m like ok yeah it would make sense that Neil Josten does not care to comment about the way people look, but we get SO LITTLE outside of “dark hair. Light hair. tall.” I’m like equal parts endeared and grinding my teeth at it

2. Some dialogue is really corny. But that’s okay, because I think they deserve to be corny sometimes. Corny isn’t bad, you know? It still made me kick my feet at times

3. I cannot gauge how well I think the story dealt with rough topics. I think viewing the world through a Neil lens makes it a little easier to not completely consider everything at face value, and it’s really nice that despite everything Neil could have become, he’s still intensely likable and all around Good. That being said, it’s not so much Neil’s POV that I’m stressed about as it is how the story goes around issues of other characters? I won’t take out my list of eyebrow raises but I was like, immensely Not Happy about how Matt’s addiction was dealt with. I don’t even have a problem with what Andrew did (in terms of, I don’t have a problem with that being something written into the story) but Matt’s reaction to Neil’s (rightful) horror about how he could be okay with that, and Matt being like no yeah listen trust me, it’s fine, and also my mom approved of it…. Hhhh maybe it’s for personal reasons that I don’t like how that was dealt with, but I just didn’t. Meanwhile, I thought Andrew’s backstory was dealt with well. I thought the Drake scene was handled very well, in that it moved me to numbing shock and I got nauseous and I think the details it chose to omit and include were incredibly important (had the scene been More explicit, I think I would have been less visceral? Because so much of it would have been set out in front of me, but because the vast majority of that scene was Emotions And Implication, it REALLY fucked with me, I appreciate it)

4. Nora has used verbal expo dumps enough that I Noticed it but can’t decide where I stand on it because I’m also totally of the mind that people Talk. And that’s fine. Like people in Real Life also have expo dumps about others so I’ll cut it some slack actually

And the things I don’t like…:

1. Why is Exy capitalized that drives me nuts

2. I put off reading AFTG for a while because the entire premise admittedly seemed totally not my type of story and, expectedly, no matter how hard I tried, I just couldn’t get into the whole Mafia thing. I know it’s a large part of what drives the plot forward but I genuinely have to turn a blind eye to it when I talk about my love for AFTG LMFAO like I just can’t it’s too much. I know the story has a lot of moments where you have to suspend your disbelief and I’m happy to do that because that’s the point of fiction but the mafia stuff is just like. Background noise to me. I don’t think about it. I don’t think I registered a word of what Lola said. I get that we need some source of trauma for these kids but also. Also. LMSFKDJSKLDFJ like you could easily replace the mafia stuff with something else and get the same effect but. Whatever. This is clearly like a Me Not Liking Mafia Things thing

3. Sometimes it got too corny for my taste, and certain dialogue I thought would do better as more vague thoughts. In line with me loving Neil being such a shit stirrer and short tempered, I had a difficult time with his monologue/mouth off at Riko during the ball because it felt too dramatic and rehearsed I’m so sorry Neil baby I’m totally supportive of you telling Riko off (THE INTERVIEW SCENE IN BOOK ONE WAS SSAAAUURRRRR GOOD!!!!) But other times I was like. Hiding my face behind my hands and bashing my skull against my pillow. I think the only part of that initial ball scene that I liked was Jean’s general introduction and interactions. Also I know it’s Andrew’s whole Thing when he’s on meds but some of Andrew’s lines occasionally had me scratching my chin awkwardly. This complaint mostly sizzles out by book 3 though. I liked book 3

4. I mentally retcon Andrew and Aaron’s and Riko’s heights where I can. I’m sorry. It’s for my own sanity. I don’t want to be taller than any of them in any given moment. I can accept Neil’s because I like Haikyuu also

5. I’m not satisfied with the book 3 ending.

6. I say this as someone who speaks four languages, 2 of them fluently and the other two very close to fluent - the language shenanigans of the characters in AFTG is literally so extremely batshit LMFAO I will never forget Jane texting me if I know how to say dashboard lighter in my native tongue and me being like ‘I don’t even know what that the fuck that is in English’ HAHAH like . Just. It was silly. It got silly. I don’t know how many languages Nora speaks but with the given time frames of how long they would have had to learn the languages + the context in which they learned it . Just. You’re not convincing me I’m soooo sorry!!!!

ANYWAY that’s my general review on it. The TLDR is that mafia stuff isn’t my thing and at times I struggle to suspend my disbelief but I enjoy the characters a lot and the dynamics built between them, and the fact that Nora wasn’t afraid to make the story Hurt, the characters Hurt. You know?! I’m excited to read TSC and fawn over Jeremy and the fact that I can never have him!!!

MY AFTG pride hc of the Foxes for Pride Month:

Neil: demisexual (canon!) But also demiromantic, this boy had not felt a single romantic feeling towards anyone expect for Andrew (he definitely just says he's andrewsexual until he learns about demi). As for gender, HE IS A TRANS MAN I WILL GO DOWN WITH THIS Y'ALL CAN FIGHT ME (it just makes so much sense you can pry trans Neil out of my cold dead hands if you dare)

Andrew: gay (canon) but also greyromantic or demi romantic, I'm torn between the two but he defo didn't experience romantic feelings for anyone but Neil (i.e. the reason he thought Neil was a hallucination bc he had never felt something like that before and hoped it was because of the drugs but hahaha nope!)

Aaron: repressed bisexual, he knew from an early age that boys were cute just like girls but he heard what Luther was saying about gay people and suppressed his own feelings for y e a r s and acted out bc he never processed his sexuality for a decade (also Neil was an asshole and he didn't want his brother to date the guy he hated the most so of course he was against it, also because he realizes that Neil could hurt Andrew (re Baltimore) and that's not gonna happen, not on Aaron's watch no sir)

Kevin: bisexual (this guy is bi, he's so bi like- he's a bi man if I've ever seen one) (so bi he fails completely at trying to pass as straight, his giant crush on Jeremy was a dead give away) but he's definitely on the aro spectrum. He's definitely still figuring it out bc you know, romantic feelings weren't allowed in the Nest so he's figuring it out

Nicky: gay :3 (canon)

Dan: bi sexual but, to her huge dismay, with a preference for men (super satly when she realized this but you know she got Matt out of it so it was okay)

Matt: he's also bi, I mean just look at him. If he wasn't so in love with Dan and was able to, he would probably kiss Neil. He and Dan definitely talk about the cute people they see and point out cute people because they're comfortable in their relationship to do so, no jealousy here

Allison: a bi sexual queen! She doesn't realize it until after Seth passed however. She definitely made out with girls while drunk and just thought it was normal (sure, keep telling yourself that boo)

Renee: a fucking lesbian. Should've been canon (I saw Nora trying to force a Renee Jean thing, I saw that and I reject that)

Bonus

Jeremy: pan, gender doesn't matter at all to him, he loves all

Jean: queer, he can admit he is attracted to multiple genders but he has too much trauma to really look into it. He's also ace for sure

I really, really, really want to be happy that we get to see Adam and Rocky and some character development in the wake of their possession, and get an entire issue based around Billy, but it all really just goes downhill from here. The only nice thing I can say is that Hendry Prasetya's art has gotten very smooth and I quite like it compared to previous chapters.

However, revisiting old Dual MM and PR chapters has made me happy finding little gold nuggets around that actually speak to true personality:

Next to Dan Mora, Marco Renna mighty be my favorite artist for this series. At least I can stand to look at Zedd with this style.

And also: THIS ☝🏿☝🏿 I miss this kind of thing.

I know we've all had fun throwing rocks at the Eltarian War Arc, but I cannot be the only one that sees the VERY EASILY streamlined version of events where this would have been perfect for Identity Reveal, Action Survivor, Big Damn Heroes, Big Ego/Hidden Depths, The Chosen Zero, Karmic Jackpot, Kleptomaniac Hero, Chekhov's Gun, Everything is Trying to Kill You, Strolling Through the Chaos, and an Establishing Character Moment tropes for...our babies Q_Q Honestly, so much fanfic possibility. Wish I could figure out how to make it work...

I have a full post of me ranking off's characters already! but here it is for mond & gawin :)

MOND:

sun (midnight motel): ABSOLUTELY FLAWLESS PERFORMANCE!!! carried the show!!! slayed beyond all expectations!!! truly incredible as the villain, one of my fave acting performance EVER I loved it so much. also sun in himself is the most interesting villain I've seen!

namnhao/namnuea (the judgement): shit show with problematic tropes but mond ATE!!! him as namnhao is not only unrecognizable & absolutely adorable, but really had some fucking top tier acting!

badz (boy for rent): the role that started it all. made me fall in love with this cutie & unable to ever go back. badz is hot af, the only character that didn't annoy me at some point during the show & the acting is very good.

kluay (water boyy): the first role I saw mond in!!! kluay honestly carried the show, he's so fun & flirty & cute and we love him in this house!!!

gram (not me): I love gram, but not the storyline he was stuck in for the whole show. I love how political gram is, how much he can be a debate-lord at times lol, and even that he's a scaredy cat. I LOVE the way he spits on dan when he betrays the gang & how he hugs sean after he gets shot. I LOVE his banter with nuch & will forever be a gramnuch stan. however, I didn't like how withdrawn from the rest of the gang they made him in order for him to pursue eugene, who looked uncomfortable the whole time & was his best friend's ex. gram had so much potential, but sadly he ended up being my least favorite character from not me bc he got the short end of the stick. mond did a great job though!

tee (the underclass): kinda forgettable show tbh but tee was a very cute love interest & I watched the whole show just for mond so slay!

matt (kiss me again): even though kiss me again is legit the worst gmmtv show ever made with ugly duckling: pity girl & turn left turn right, and matt's love interest is THE FUCKING WORST, he was kinda sorta okay I guess. to be frank I forgot everything from this storyline bc the way his love interest wanna prove he's gay is YIKES.

dodo (saneha stories: bar host): a hot, struggling stripper who becomes a literal dad??? if the show wasn't so short & rushed this would be way higher, mond ATE!

term (ps: I hate you): a hot dummie who forgives lies for love, which... couldn't be me lol so he's there.

por (fabulous 30): I really liked fabulous 30, and it wasn't because of the main character played by mond. por is bland AS ALL HELL, pushy & disregards his best friend's feelings, and he just... gave us nothing. at least he's cute thanks to mond's good looks though :')

GAWIN:

pisaeng (be my favorite): so it's very hard for me to decide which is my favorite gawin role, simply bc imo pisaeng, dan & mork are all my faves for very different reasons. but I will put pisaeng here bc I literally don't see how anyone could dislike him? like he's perfect but not boring & does have struggle, which we LOVE around here! also the depiction of him finding his sexuality in bmg ep.5 was INCREDIBLE I loved it so much!!! so pisaeng will be number one (for now!)

dan (not me): now, dan is on another plane of existence for me. I literally adore him & am a dan apologist THROUGH & THROUGH bestie. I genuinely think he's one of he most interesting characters I've EVER seen, and that makes it so he shouldn't be in this ranking. he EXCEEDS this ranking! I absolutely adore imperfect characters & I think the depiction gawin gave dan was perfect. BUT dan also gave me THE MOST PAINFUL betrayal scene in existence that literally has changed my dna TO THIS VERY DAY, so just for that I'll give him the number 2 spot :')

mork (dark blue kiss/kiss me again): girllllllllll, my heart aches having to put mork in number 3 bc I LITERALLY ADORE HIM!!! I was a huge dbk stan but since then I've legit rewatched the show only for mork lol, I absolutely love him & he's an amazing character! so as I said previously, mork is number one in my heart on a equal playing field as pisaeng & dan, I can't choose!

saifa (enchanté): literally the tiniest role but he was hot af AND played a guitar rendition of offgun's too cute to handle on the show???????? AN ABSOLUTE BLESSING THANK U! also he legit played cupid for akktheo so slayyyyyyyy!!!

mile (girl next room: motorbike baby): honestly better than the actual love interest cpodiuygsuichdisucodihb, hot & ALSO plays guitar (duh), too bad that he's a cheater lmao!

so let's start this one out with how great spring is. seriously. we're in love. jay-z called my phone the other day. for real this is how the conversation went:

new things on the horizon:

tentatively titled: the boy with the thorn in his side in "i am the dream, you are the dreamer" - me and travis from gym class and a couple of others began working on this. it will be a slightly different format - about 150-200 pages illustration every 5 pages. similiarly styled but trust me the other was simply an introduction. this won't be out till winter probably.

before that: two pack ultra limited "boy with the thorn" and "rattail" broken heart two pack toy. possibly at the end of summer.

and also, tentatively titled: "rainy day kids" - about 130 pages no illustrations. this book comprises writing from the last 5 years - on the directors cut it was mistakingly called "young hearts be free" - these read alot closer to my journal entries. this should be out by fall...

Love. We got you. Tour has been amazing. Midtown just dropped off, silverstein picked it up. People will be missed, new friends will be made. We got you on the bussiness end of the barrel. Get into it or drop out, hit it or quit it. New record soon. We just shot a new video for "sugar we're going down", its kind of weird. Its definitely the most time and money we have ever spent on a video. We hope you love it. Lets just say there is a fireplace, a bear head, deers and upstate new york outdoors involved. Our friend matt lenski who shot all those cute little baby chick mtv commercials. "We should move somewherer deep in the middle of july" she said. You know how I get down (and out). I'm sore throat singing through the curtain at you down the hall in the dark and you're asleep or just a good actor. In my head this is the way we'll always be. Me walking out dripping wet, trailing my finger nails against the picture frames on the walls. Slipping back into whatever and being careful shut the door so I don't wake anyone.

Washington d.c. Has got us under this amazing spell. We are on our way to bamboozle fest, see you in new jersey tommorrow. Ill be up at 9am looking for the sun. Stop by the clandestine booth all weekend, we'll be giving away clandestine slap bracelets (you know like the ones that everyone loved in the 80s).

Spider-Man Read-Through BONUS: Marvel Team-Up 2 (#36-79)

Continuing the same concept as the previous post, that is, a quick catch-up to not miss anything regarding Peter's social life.

In #36, Spider-Man fights with Frankenstein's monster. As in, they fight enemies together! That's nice. Peter says that with Gwen's clone, he's more inclined to believe in ridiculous stuff like his acolyte's existence. They try to save a woman in distress, but it was actually a SHIELD agent in disguise, who's after the monster-maker that trapped Spidey and Frankenstein's monster in the first place!

It's fun to see the three of them as allies. The monster eventually finds Spidey about to fight... Man-Wolf!

In #37, the story continues and the (hot) monster-maker traps Spidey and Frankenstein's monster AGAIN.

What an unfortunate bubble.

Don't worry, they escape. Again. Meanwhile, the SHIELD agent is with Man-Wolf, who eventually protects her from actual wolves. She flees at the first chance. Spidey soon finds Man-Wolf, and, uh...

Malehood, huh...

Well, that's just sad. That was a nice duo of issues!

#38 time!

Spidey meets Beast. They have a nice dynamic. Spidey also assaults a rich old lady!

In #39, meets an adorable kid, Manuel (I refuse to call him "Mosquito", his surname). Manuel has a tight relationship with pigeons, and I assume this is where Spidey's whole thing with pigeons (ITSV, Insomniac's SM) started.

Their cute scene is interrupted by an evil MEANIE who shoots a pigeon dead :(

Meanwhile, the Human Torch meets an Enforcer again (ASM 19!) Shenanigans ensue.

I prefer this outfit too, Marko.

#40 features a nice starting spread.

It's non-stop action, but the panels are entertaining!

So uh, anyway, Foswell had a daughter and now she's dead :(

In 41, Wanda Maximoff gets stoned.

Hahaha.

More importantly, 42 features this ad:

And we get to see Dr Doom, nice!

#43 is sure eventful, and #44 offers a really dark panel, what the hell.

In #45, Spidey hits Green Gobl'MJ. I will not explain further. In #46, time travel still (handy to not be too trapped by ASM's continuity).

Captain Jean DeWolff's introduced in #48, which sucks, but at least now I know who she is. She's very hardboiled, and her team up with Spidey and Iron Man is really nice.

It's juicy, even!

The Wraith is Jean's brother's brainwashed resurrected body, but the actual mastermind is Philip himself. It's actually a solid plot and it's wild that it was confined to Team-Up. And it lasts several issues too (48-51)!

In #52, SSM #1 is referenced!

In #53, we get a nice spread.

In #63, Misty Knight's there and she slays.

In #65, Peter has to house Brian Braddock, an English exchange student. He even introduces him to the Coffee Bean Gang, that's nice! But Brian is actually suspected of being Captain Britain by the EU branch of the Maggia, which wants to eliminate him.

Continuity in the apartment, nice! Brian barely catches Peter leaving his apartment costumed, and suspects Spidey might have abducted him. He transforms into Captain Britain to save him. That's actually a neat concept, but as usual, I wish it didn't focus so much on their fight. Still, I ship these two dudes.

You get it. I do think TU gets more interesting as it goes on, but the gimmick (teaming up with other heroes) ultimately prevents it from having too compelling stories for now.

#66 continues the storyline and traps both our heroes in a giant pinball machine, which is great. I hope we get to see more of this villain, Arcade.

#68 is a wild one. Peter and MJ go to the circus, see Man-Thing, then shenanigans happen and suddenly your 13 year old self's OC appears.

Uh-uh alright lmao.

72 finally continues the Jean/Wraith plot.

I love Jean's outfit in this one.

Her brother is alright now, yay <3

In #73, Peter asks Matt Murdock for help but the latter is distracted by the Owl.

Oh I love this!!!! We also see Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd, John Belushi, and probably other names I don't know about. I breeze through the issue, but it still has some of my interest.

Oh, MJ <3 There's a lot of battles but it's an uncharacteristically good issue. I might actually add it to my Recommendations post!

I thought it would be revealed to be in Peter's mind, but it seems not. It very much seems like MJ knows about Peter's identity, doesn't it?

In #75... Well first of all, I love the look of this place.

Andre and MJ proceed to kiss, and Peter's not very charmed. I love MJ's outfit in the first panel, it's really cool. The issue also sees the return of Luke Cage.

#76 time!

I kinda love that first page but also what's up with Peter having the Three of Swords on his crotch?

Oof. The only other things I stopped on were Ms. Marvel's civilian persona looking gorgeous, and Peter looking gorgeous too.

I see we have the same priorities!

In #77, that suit is drawn wonderfully.

I think it's the heavy shading, I really love it.

In #79, we learn that Jameson fired Carol Danvers (I beg your pardon? Oh, that's funny. I wonder how many super heroes he recruited without knowing it.)

She's so funny, I love her.

The museum's in flames, Peter goes as Spidey to investigate, MJ wants to know where he goes every time but her internal monologue says she doesn't know he's Spider-Man, so... a bit inconsistent here.

Then THAT happens.

Forever wondering why there's not more of a creative fan community around Spidey because there's truly something for everyone.

Intrigued by a sword, MJ takes it and gets possesed Red Sonja, skimpy clothes and everything, hell yeah!

We get a nice ending, with MJ transforming back into herself, unaware of what happened, and Peter throwing the magical item in the ocean as a pink cloud shaped like Sonja looks over him.

Minyard-Josten BIOMY Home

This one is the most canon-compliant to the fic I could make it, going back a bunch of times to the flashback chapter where they first bought it and adding the extra rooms they mentioned wanting. Yes, it's extra big. Mostly because I had to fit two bathrooms with enormous bathtubs and Andreil's ridiculously big bed. It was super fun to build!

First detail I wanted to point out is the move of their chairs from the back porch to the front. Because the back now goes into the shared ring I felt they would enjoy more the privacy of the woods around the villa :)

It's mentioned many times how the downstairs rooms are weird and skinny because they closed the floor plan, and anytime you see a funky tile, blame it on the kids (foyer has Nat's water-like one)! Also, no white walls, keeping lighter colors on the down-stairs and darker upstairs.

Living room opens to a huge cat tree because they're spoiled. There's also much more decoration thanks to the art classes and the kids pressuring them to put more pictures out. (you can see them up close on the photoshoot link in the beginning of the post). The pictures include the twins at Nicky's wedding and the pict Dan sent them, and you can see grey and blue bouquets Andreil got each other <3

I can't actually change window glass colors but we know they're all colorful.

Ok, I know, but there's only so much you can do when the characters decide they must have fox-orange cabinets. There was an empty wall so they let Nat and Paige add some trees.

Yes. This is how big an Alaskan bed is. I looked it up. Andrew's corner has a motivacional cat poster his mom-therapist gave him for decor and Neil's has his mom's bones so I guess they match? Shout-out to Andrunior at the window and their super safe knife target.

Paige wanted a pink and gold color scheme, so I went along those lines. She's got her crocheting paraphernalia on the floor, and because I can't put stars on the ceiling there's a cute nightlight.

Why does Nat's room looks purple? because right by that green mirror there's a craft paper lamp, you can kinda see it on the floor plan. Nat's room is very artsy, with a mirror gallery and lot's of paintings on her desired black walls.

Now pretty much all the other rooms, left to right and top to bottom: the foyer (their blue period, with abstract art and a gothic rug), downstairs bathroom (full, in case Neil breaks a leg), guest room, kid's bathroom (the Jack-and-Jill sink outside), Andreil bathroom, and stairs landing. Neil and Andrew let the kids go wild with the tiles, and I love them for that. Very funky. Also, behold their basically-hotubs.

And finally, because I loved how they looked: their back porch, with bench and floor painted by the kids, and the wall that faces Matt and Dan's home, where Nat painted a mural. (also, all houses have recycling and regular bins just outside, thanks to Renee)

I did a whole background for this because when the subject is Matt Murdock my mind goes places, I'm sorry if it is too much.

Foggy and Matt spent the whole afternoon at your place to help you on making your opening arguments for an upcoming trial, it would be a really big deal in your career and you called the best lawyers you could think of to give you a hand.

You were not a part of the Nelson and Murdock firm, however, without thinking twice, they always helped you out when you called. You went to college together, you even had a past with Matt - a subject none of you felt brave enough to bring up these days, stupid young mistakes made you grow apart, and both of you would be absolute liars if you said you didn't still feel a thing for each other, specially keeping more in touch now days.

You didn't speak to him for years after you two broke up, you didn't blame him, and he didn't blame you, it was really just a matter of two immature and stubborn people trying to deal with their - way too strong - feelings at a young age, and failing.

But you kept in touch with Foggy, and by extension, with the time, Matt and you also got back what you had before your very troubled relationship, you worked well, had common tastes and deep trust on each other even after years without touch.

You felt like he could tell by some sort of sixth sense that you were trustful, for whatever reason, you were he did.

It all pieced together when he told you about Daredevil, and how he did know when someone was lying. You got mad, but still, that brought you even closer to him, with higher senses or not, you trusted deeply on each other and you felt special when he told you this.

Which brings you to now, sitting on your bed humming to a song on the guitar and fully forgetting that Matthew Murdock was still in your house.

He claimed he needed some more time reading what you came up with for the opening argument and said he'd be running it over in his head and tell you if he found anything to work upon, you went to your room to give him some space to think and seeing your guitar there hanging, in order to pass some time, you took it.

After what you judge at least ten minutes of trying to remember the lyrics and playing with the chords you jump back in your bed when you see Matt with crossed arms, bending to the side on your door, concentrated on your music.

“Jesus Christ, Matthew you scared the shit out of me.” You place your hand on your heart and try to get your heartbeat back to normal - uselessly. Suddenly bothered that he could tell your pace was faster.

“I'm sorry.” He says between a laugh showing his perfectly lined teeth. "I thought you could see me here this whole time. I couldn't really tell where you were looking at, you know." He points at his glasses.

“Yeah, I know.” You smile at him. “I just completely forgot you were here for a second, you were way too quiet.”

“Vigilante life side effects, I guess.”

“Let's say that.”

“You play really well.” He points at the guitar. “And sing.”

“Oh, please.”You feel your face heating up. “That's probably the worst performance you've ever heard. And with higher senses? You too nice.” You play.

“Remember how you promised me someday I'd see you play?” You freeze at the sudden mention of your past with him, leaving his lips like it was nothing. You both have been dancing around that subject none stop since you got back in touch. Of course you remembered.

“I guess I'm good at keeping my promises.” you say, a little bit sharper than you wished for, seeing his face fall. “I'm sorry" you start “I didn't mean it to come out that way.”

“It's okay."

There's suddenly a comfortable silence in the room, it's like the memories Matt brought back by saying less than ten words were too much to take in and think of something to speak at the same time, so you just stop to think about it.

You take a moment to look at him. To really look at him, after so long. And he did still look fucking gorgeous.

So you kiss him.

You wish you could tell Matt was surprised by your actions, but - ironically - it's like he could see it coming. And he welcomes you as best as he could. Cupping your cheeks and sliding his tongue into your mouth like you never stopped doing this, like it's where you belong the whole time.

And maybe it was.

Andrew and Neil wear each other’s clothes a lot because Neil is always too hot and Andrew is always cold. Andrew, sticking to his aesthetic, never wears enough layers. Neil, being bad at forethought, wears too many. (It’s also how every blanket on Neil’s bed always seems to migrate to Andrew’s)

Renee is an incredible gymnast, like she can easily do a bunch of those fancy flips without even thinking about it and she’s just super flexible

Since they met, Nicky has been dragging the twins on what he calls ‘cousin dates’ where they go out to coffee or dinner and Nicky pays. Both twins absolutely pretend to hate it, but Aaron likes to just go out and do something and Nicky buys Andrew as much ice cream as he wants

Speaking of Nicky, he has Erik on FaceTime for games and puts his phone propped up in one of the court side seats so Nicky gets to feel like Erik’s there because he can just turn and see his face

Kevin despises cardio and would rather die than have to go on a run with Neil because he physically can’t keep up. His ego just can’t handle it

Dan & Matt have shared Pinterest boards for their wedding, their future house and cute kiddie activities

Wymack gives in and buys a spray bottle for the foxes so anytime one of them misbehaves he just sprays them like a naughty cat

Allison and Matt, because they were little rich kids, absolutely cannot cook. Like neither of them know that spaghetti needs to go in water to be cooked and they should not be left unattended in a kitchen

headcannon that Matt and Neil have art sundays where they have a pile of built up art equipment where they listen to music and do art together to destress

it started when Neil had a major panic attack after practice one Wednesday afternoon and ran for 3 hours straight without realising and everyone threw a giant search party to try and find him

no one wanted to admit how much it reminded them of Baltimore

so while Neil was laying on his bed recovering from the panic attack and the loss of feeling in his legs, Matt entered the room (Andrew sitting on the window bench having not left Neil’s since he was found on the sidewalk halfway to Columbia that night)

“hey buddy, I know you need to rest but I was wondering if you wanted to go shopping this weekend with me? I need to get some stuff and thought you might be interested to come along” Matt had said.

turns out, Matt wanted to get some acrylic paints at a small arts and crafts store five minutes away from campus to add to his growing collection (hidden under their bunk bed after Seth once found a watercolour paint set next to Matt’s bed and didn’t stop laughing and going on about how ‘girly’ art was).

Neil was overwhelmingly confused at the range of knowledge and understanding Matt had about the millions of types of colours, what types of brushes to use, what in the flying f**k is a painting palette knife??.

Matt- “Hey bud, can you grab me a tube of burnt umber oil paint?”

Neil- “A what amber?”

Matt- “ooooh I really want to try gauche, I heard it’s similar to watercolour but it’s so different”

Neil- “gu...ash? Gatch? Gwass?”

by the end of the shopping trip (two bags full of art supplies Matt insisted were for himself, but were really for his best buddy Neil and his fraying mental state) Neil was left with too many questions and a whole other perception of who he thought Matt was.

turns out, when Matt first got over his drug addiction, his mum sent him to weekly art classes for therapy and for Matt to use his hands in a way that is gentle and precise to counter the aggression he uses when learning to box. Matt stopped his weekly art sessions when he started university because he was too focused on not getting addicted to drugs again. 3 years later when seeing Neil starting to become overwhelmed with the lack of sleep from his nightmares, he thought that maybe art will help Neil as much as it helped Matt.

spoiler alert -> it did.

That Sunday when they got home, Matt dragged Neil to the small living room of the dorm Matt and Aaron now shared, placed a sheet of plastic on the floor (after throwing all the discarded clothes and shoes out of the way) and made Neil sit down beside it while he set a canvas on four small cups.

Matt explained acrylic pouring to Neil, showing him dozens of YouTube videos of tutorials and tips. They then mixed all the paints with the pouring medium. Matt made Neil choose the colours (Neil being the original one he is chose orange, black and a little brown like Andrew’s eyes, Matt added some gold to the final pouring cup as well for ✨aesthetic✨ purposes)

then the pouring begun. Matt’s insides slowly started coming apart while watching his always tense and alert best friend become absolutely transfixed on how the paint formed beautiful patterns and cells. It was like Neil’s anxiety was shut off for the hour they were making art.

Andrew also noticed how tranquil Neil had become compared to how he was just a few hours before when Neil went to their room that afternoon. He himself started to relax a little more knowing the one person who understood him more than anyone else had found something that can ease his anxiety in a healthy way.

Art Sunday’s became a regular part of Matt and Neil’s routine. As soon as the cousins, Neil and Kevin would come back from Columbia, Neil would head straight to Matt’s dorm where Matt would be waiting with a new art project set up.

Arts and crafts projects they’ve tried out:

-watercolour painting (Neil does not have the patience for the amount of layers needed, especially since he has a habit of never fully cleaning the brushes and his paintings always ending up a muddy brown colour)

-clay flower pot making (the first pot Neil made was in the shape of a fox, and it was actually really life-like. He gave it to Abby, who’s house may as well be a forest with the amount of house plants she owns Neil ends up loving clay pot making so much that he regularly makes flower pots for Abby who eventually starts giving some of them to Betsy since she does not have enough space left in her house)

-embroidery (Matt ended up having to call Abby for medical aide since his big burly hands got in the way and he accidentally stabbed himself with a needle when trying to make a cute rose design for Dan to hang in her dorm)

-Oil painting (Andrew refused to be anywhere close to Neil if he didn’t shower enough times to get the smell of turps out of his fingers because the idiot decided to ruin his hands by finger painting and using turps to soften some areas of the painting)

even after they were graduated, Matt and Neil still made time (an hour each Sunday) where they would video call and do fun arts and crafts which helped maintain their already strong friendship.

dan has never claimed to understand andrew. or neil. especially not andrew and neil together

but she likes to have an eye on any changing behaviors on her team

because she's captain. not at all because she likes the gossip. dan's better than that

(she's really not)

so when matt starts acting jumpy around andrew and neil, she makes it a point to ask him if something's wrong

"i mean... i want to talk to neil about something i saw but there's like a 50/50 chance of murder"

"matt—"

needless to say, dan doesn't want to let neil or andrew out of her sight for a while

but she's dealing with a lot of stress: her last year of college, captaining the Foxes, dealing with rookie freshman, training neil on how to be captain, being a good girlfriend, all while job scouting and looking for housing for next year

so she has to trust that neil and andrew like matt enough to let him live

one fall night, dan is up late figuring out some plays, but there's something about the offensive line that just isn't working out

she quietly steps out of her dorm, noticing that the light is still on in kevin's room, and she heads over there to see if he has any ideas

binders in her hands, dan kicks at the door until kevin yanks it open with a grumble

she walks in and blinks when she realizes that kevin is dressed to go outside, and she realizes he must have been getting ready to go for a night practice

dan asks kevin for a confirmation, to which he lets out a loud groan and collapses on the couch

"we were supposed to go an HOUR ago but someone — ahem NEIL” he shoots a pointed glare to the bedrooms “keeps making out with his boyfriend. what do they even do for that long?! i guess when he's finally done, we'll go”

dan blinks. of course the one thing that could distract neil from exy was andrew

kevin quiets for a moment, and as dan strains her ears, she hears neil’s giggles — giggles! — coming through the door

(dan decides to ignore the more... explicit sounds)

she gives a consoling pat to the top of kevin’s head and drops her binders next to him

kevin rolls over reluctantly and starts flipping through dan's notes, and the two of them immerse themselves in plays and stats

about 30 minutes later, dan gets up for a stretch break and notices that she can't hear any noises coming from the bedroom anymore

she takes a few cautious steps in that direction, but when she's a few feet away, the door slams open and neil stumbles out, dragging andrew forward with a very wet laughing kiss

truly, they look like two lovestruck teenagers. it's very cute. also a little gross

dan coughs

the two of them leap apart (well, neil leaps. andrew steps back calmly, fixing his hair, but dan doesn't miss the glare he sends her)

"uh, neil. kevin's been waiting for you for night practice"

"oh shit. how long's it been?"

"i've been here for 30 minutes. kevin says he'd been waiting for an hour before i showed up"

"... oops"

dan steps back and opens her mouth to call for kevin when neil leans in towards andrew again

she lets out an exasperated sigh. "neil— "

neil cups andrew's face in his palms and presses a peck to his nose, giving him a fleeting, but bright, smile before noisily pushing past dan and yelling at kevin to hurry up, he's so behind schedule, what's been keeping him up for so long?

dan decides to ignore the crash and screech behind her as kevin shoves neil out the dorm

instead, she focuses on andrew

he gives her a cool, impassive glance, completely at odds with the bright red tips his ears were sporting and his blown-out pupils

"hey"

"..."

"so uh. you're not going to night practice with them?"

"paper"

"ah i see, i see"

they were silent for a moment

the foxes roles in the gc

Neil:

Replies when necessary or if he is in a good mood.

It's always short replies.

If it's an ongoing conversation he'll say one thing and then leave.

It usually goes something like this:

"Oh! Neil's active, hi Neil!"

"Hi, I agree with Renee."

...

"Wait, did he leave already?"

Andrew:

You probably guessed this already but he never answers.

Even if the question is directed at him he won't say anything.

Occasionally you may get a yes or no.

Or he'll like the message but that's it.

The poor foxes will always get their hopes up when his little texting bubbles show up.

But he literally just key smashes to make them think he's going to say something.

Asshole, yeah we know.

Neil finds it funny so Andrew keeps doing it.

Kevin:

Kevin won't engage in "meaningless" conversation.

If the messaging is about exy, he'll always be one of the first to answer.

But as soon as it turns to something else he's gone.

Unless it's to correct someone's spelling mistakes.

He never fails to do that.

He's constantly messaging the foxes reminders and updates and their schedules.

He texts very professionally though.

Like it's an email.

He doesn't abbreviate or anything.

Grandpa Kevin

"Good morning, a reminder to be at the gym in 10 minutes dressed and ready. Neil, if you forget your water bottle again you're running ten extra laps."

"We have a game in two days, night practice at approximately 10 p.m."

Aaron:

Aaron is worse than Andrew.

He will answer questions directed at him but only if they are very very recent and he happens to be on the group chat.

King of thumbs up

Nicky:

Nicky is singlehandedly keeping the group chate alive.

He's that one person in the group chat who's constantly sending TikToks, Instagram posts, recipes, people he finds hot, Pinterest inspo boards, etc.

He's steering the conversations.

He's starting them back up when it starts to die.

He's sending cat memes 24/7.

He's ranting at 3 in the morning when no one is active.

He's giving everyone a play by play update on his day.

He's doing it all.

And we love him for that.

The others may complain about it, but they actually enjoy it.

And they know it makes Nicky happy to have people listening to him, especially when those people are his friends.

Plus, he just really loves texting and the internet.

Matt:

All the upperclassmen are active in the gc, including Matt.

I mean, it was his and Dan's idea, so they kinda have to be.

Matt types like this:

Y do u h8 me, Kev?

"Maybe, it's because you type like you are incapable of spelling out 'you'."

He's also the local meme provider.

Any kind of meme you want, Matt probably has it saved in his camera roll.

LOTS of exy memes.

He saves those for when Neil or Kevin haven't been saying anything for a few days.

Sometimes he'll get scared to send one.

So, he runs it by Dan first.

She always tells him to send them.

He's very good at finding funny and fitting posts.

Dan:

Dan is probably the most active on the gc, other than maybe Nicky.

But the foxes tend to answer her more.

No offense to Nicky...

Her captain-y privelge transfers to text too ig.

Dan will send the gc good morning texts, reminders(ones Kevin forgets about or isn't to be bothered with), articles about the foxes, workout videos, etc.

She loves sending compilations to the group chat.

Like:

"10 Times Neil Josten Flips Off teammate, Kevin Day."

"Or Matt Boyd and Dan Wilds Cutest on Court Kisses."

"Dan didn't you mean to just send that to Matt."

"NO! I thought you all would like it!"

She also sends them not so fun things.

If a bit of bad press is released she is the first to know and immediately sends it to the gc.

Also things like:

"Traffic on the way 2 court is bad, leave early."

"Crazy man on the corner by the parking lot, be careful!"

Dan is the group chat mom and we love that for her.

Allison:

Allison will not start conversations but she is always a part of them.

LOVES to start drama in the group chat.

and talk about gossip.

"did you guys see what neil was wearing today?wtf*puke emoji*"

"Allison, I can see this."

"good, maybe you'll listen to me then.*kissy emoji*"

She likes to text just in emojis sometimes.

Lots of kissing emojis.

And middle finger ones.

She also sends selfies when she feels like it.

Or when she likes her outfit.

"Allison we don't want to see your slutty outfit."

"stfu nicky, ur just jealous.*middle finger and kissy emoji*"

She doesn't type in uppercase.

Kevin is appalled.

Overall, she's a pretty standard group chat member.

But add some *richness*

Renee:

Renee does her best to stay active on the chat.

exy and non exy related conversations.

She tries to answer every one, like the sweetheart she is.

She likes to send cute things.

and motivational things.

or aesthetic pictures.

"I thought you guys would like this picture of a baby goat, have a good day!"

She tries to send good morning messages every day.

sometimes she does, sometimes she doesn't.

She tries, that's what matters.

A lot of the time the conversations are just her and Nicky.

Like in real life, she is usually the mediator when things get heated or bad.

"Allison, was the emoji really necessary?"

"reneeeee, babe, we are supposed to be on the same team!"

If she knows someone has a test or something important coming up she'll message them "good luck" on the gc.

Mainly so the others will do the same.

"Good luck on your test, Aaron!"

"Oh, yeah! You got it, man!" (Matt)

"If you pass, we can skip half our laps:)" (Dan)

"No, we will not."(Kevin)

"Literally, no one asked you Kevin."(Andrew)

"Whoa! Andrew said something!*excited squealing*" (Nicky)

*Andrew Minyard has left the group chat*

*Renee Walker has added Andrew Minyard to the group chat*

Wymack:

Matt added Wymack as a joke.

As soon as Wymack saw what it was, he left.

Nicky had the nerve to add him back though.

"Add me to this shit show one more time and I'm signing you all up for five marathons."

*sends an article about all upcoming marathons*

*Matt Boyd has kicked David Wymack out of chat*
