Cecil Palmer (Welcome to Night Vale) "I know he won last time, but I honestly think he deserves it. He is seemingly all knowing about current events in the town and sometimes reports them in a similar way to fear statements. I don't pay enough attention to all the lore to know exactly how he knows all the goings-on all the time, so it seems spooky to me. Though there is no canon description of him having a third eye he is often depicted with one, and a huge eye is a part of the logo. Being watched is also a theme throughout Nightvale, with the government agents who are always outside your house, or the faceless old woman who secretly lives in your home"
Vincent Price (The Price of Fear) "(To be clear, this is a fictionalised version of himself that he portrayed in a radio show, not the real life person. Although the "total strangers confess weird often disturbing and confidential things to him unprompted" aspect WAS apparently true of him in real life--I don't know that anyone ever confessed to murder but a lot of strangers who recognised him would apparently confide all kinds of secrets and strange stories to him since he was fairly nonjudgemental and wasn't the type of guy to interrupt or walk away when someone was talking to him. The "just knowing things" part…well, he did believe he had some level of psychic abilities/premonitions IRL, but I don't know what to make of that. Either way though the character being submitted for this poll is the fictionalised version, who shares a lot of traits with the real man but gets into clearly fictional situations in each episode.) Vincent discovers all kinds of Dark Secrets (TM) in the form of a different supernatural or murdery event each episode. Sometimes this involves him actively investigating mysteries to discover the truth about various strange occurrences. Other times he's more of a witness to events, often becoming the only person alive to know the truth about something horrible--for instance going on a fishing trip with a guy leads to him discovering the guy's been killing people and feeding them to sharks. Other times, people just…tell him things--in fact, people open up to him extremely quickly in most episodes, he only has to ask a couple of questions to get someone to tell him all about his experience of being possessed, but the most notable examples are the FOUR occasions where a total stranger approaches him, sits down opposite him, and confesses to murder almost totally unprompted, in an unusually coherent way (OK so one guy was a very nervous and hesitant person who takes a little bit of prompting, but his confession still forms a coherent and narratively interesting enough story to make an episode of a radio show!), while Vincent just (mostly) calmly listens to it all. Also he…knows stuff. Inexplicably. Like, maybe not concrete factual stuff so much, but like, at least to what in a different context I'd call force-sensitive levels. Any time he thinks something's wrong, or someone's in danger, or that he might never see this person again, or he claims to sense Evil, without fail he is accurate. (Also the promotional art for the show features him staring at you somewhat disturbingly.)"

This is an interesting story with an unexpected ending, read in roles by two masters. Ah, what voices!

Opening at a greyhound racing track at night, The Price of Fear (1956) certainly establishes a jittery, grubby ambiance with admirable concision. On the soundtrack, a male narrator’s hard-boiled voice mansplains – I mean, sets the scene: “This dog track has nothing to do with the story. But without it there wouldn’t be any story. Because a racketeer’s desire to get control of it set forces in motion that caused a man and a woman who’d never met and were not likely ever to meet to converge on each other like an express train – and with the same result!” The man is David Barrett (Lex Barker): “Half owner of the track. Honest. Altogether a decent guy.” The woman is Jennifer Warrenn (Merle Oberon): “A lovely businesswoman. Desirable. Successful. Above reproach.” Find out what happens next when the FREE monthly Lobotomy Room cinema club presents suspenseful film noir The Price of Fear downstairs at Fontaine’s bar (Dalston’s most glittering nite spot!) on Thursday 17 November! (Did I mention the special offer £5 cocktail menu?). Full details on event page. Reserve a seat to avoid disappointment: 07718000546 or email [email protected]

COD Men as Dream Daddy DILFs
Tumblr media
Call of Duty single dads x gn!single parent reader
⤐Characters: 141 + König + Horangi + Keegan
⤐Premise: You just moved into a neighborhood with a high population of retired military personnel.
*glances at my 3-4 wips* let's talk about some dilfs, shall we? ...Don't look at me. I had a vision. (No relation to the actual characters from Dream Daddy, just a similar premise) Also a disclaimer: I'm writing these dads mostly in their late 30s to 40s, but don't think about their ages and the ages of their kids too much. This is all vibes. And sorry ahead of time if I gave one of the kids the same name as you 💀 Feel free to imagine the kid has a different name because the names really don't matter
p.s. I wanted to write more characters but I had to reel myself in. I could be persuaded to write a part 2 with Vaqueros, Nikolai, Valeria, Nikto, and other Ghosts tbh
Warning: this shit is LENGTHY. Strap yourself in.
Tumblr media
Price: A post about DILFs and you expect me not to start with Captain John Price? Price is the lynchpin of this cul de sac. He's the one inviting everyone over to the barbecue, tries to get the dads to get along, and gives everyone advice. He has the quintessential dad energy. He 100% slaps his knees and says "well!" when he gets up. Price also has major girl dad energy. He's got three adorable little ladies, aged 3 (Clara), 9 (Brianna), and 11 (Alice). Yes, he did name his daughters in ABC order, I can see him doing that. Oh, he dotes on his girls, and they love their dad endlessly. He's the model father: recitals, sports, parent teacher conferences, you name it, he's there.
That's how the two of you meet: he comes up to you at one of the aforementioned events and gives you a firm handshake and apologizes profusely for not coming around to introduce himself earlier. It's not like him not to at least swing by, and he hopes you can forgive him the discourtesy. He hands you his number and says anything you need, just give him a call, or maybe swing by for a beer sometime. He gives you a wink that makes your knees weak, a wink that says he definitely noticed you checking out his muscled arms and broad shoulders. Maybe you will swing by for that beer sometime—and maybe get a little more than just a drink.
Ghost: I could see Simon having a one night stand kid. He certainly never saw himself starting a family after he lost his last one, but he was stressed and probably piss drunk as well. Years and years later, he's back from deployment and finds a social worker with a boy on his doorstep, and the rest is history. I love the idea of Simon with a moody 16 year old, but I actually see Simon and his son having the same dynamic as Mike and Abby Schmidt from the FNAF movie. Since Simon wasn't around for Caden's early childhood, they have a relationship that's undeniably father and son, but leaning towards casual and sibling-like. Simon's figuring his shit out, dealing with his PTSD and the various lasting health issues his time in special forces has left him with, and Caden's a quiet, sensitive 10 year old boy who thinks the world of his dad.
You meet Simon at the local bar. His Ghost days are long behind him, but the balaclava's a hard habit to kick. Besides, he doesn't need people staring at his scars. He's usually there with the 141, but today he's alone, and looks like he could use some company. You sit up at the bar close to him and order a drink, but you don't disturb him, and he visibly relaxes when he realizes you're not going to try to make small talk. It becomes a routine, the two of you: always sharing a quiet drink together at the bar, and then both of you wordlessly go home to your kids. You have a sort of silent conversation every time: Good to see you again. Yeah, you too. Neither of you actually speak a word to the other until Price introduces you to him at a gathering, and you finally hear his voice. "We've met before," he says, with a glint in his eye that suggests perhaps he'd like to be more than just a silent drinking buddy. That's fine with you: you're dying to see what's under the mask and dark hoodie.
Soap: JOCK ALERT. Johnny's basically Craig from Dream Daddy: total dreamboat who goes on runs around the neighborhood and gets all the appreciative looks from the local moms. He thrives on the attention in a way that definitely makes the 141 roll their eyes. He's got an older little girl named Elodie, and a lil baby boy Thomas that he takes everywhere with him. Obviously he's just being a responsible parent taking care of an infant, but secretly, Thomas is a great conversation starter with aforementioned local moms.
Conversely however, it's Johnny who makes the move on you first. Maybe in the grocery store, maybe at one of Price's get-togethers. Sidles up to you and introduces himself with a look in his eye that means trouble. Only the good kind of trouble, of course. If you reciprocate and he finds out you're single, you're not getting rid of him. But why would you want to, anyway? He's endlessly charming, attentive, and good with his hands. When he's fixing a leaky tap for you, of course—what did you think I meant?
Gaz: Kyle "Gaz" Garrick is a fucking heartthrob. I'm saying it right here, right now. He's a walks in with flowers, makes you dinner kind of partner. Also househusband vibes, because, surprise: Kyle is still married. This isn't a Joseph (Dream Daddy) situation, though: he and his wife, Emily, have known each other for a long time, a very high school sweethearts situation. Over the years, though, they drifted apart with Kyle in the military, and Emily eventually realized she's not actually into men. They're still married for coparenting purposes: they've got an older teenage girl named Violet, and a younger boy named Elliott. (Yes, I'm naming him after Elliot Knight, sue me.)
Honestly, I think it would be HILARIOUS if you met Kyle on a dating app and realized he's your next-door neighbor. But however you guys meet, Kyle is an old-school courter kind of guy. He is taking you on dinner dates, listening to you rant about your day, and is on your doorstep in a heartbeat when you call him in a panic because your kid's running a 105 fever (41 in Celsius) and you need a ride to the emergency room. (Not that the other dads wouldn't do the same, but I'm trying to convey "most reliable man in the world" vibes here.)
König: Y'all...you don't know how much fucken time I've spent thinking about this man as a dad. He's in the same boat as Ghost where he never saw himself living long enough to start a family, but here he is with the most precious little girl you've ever laid eyes on. Ava's got her father's curly hair and big green eyes, and she has her dad wrapped around her pinky finger. For König, Ava is living proof that he's capable of being more than just a tool for violence.
You meet König through Ava, of course. Your kids are the closest of friends, and the two of them are constantly going over to each other's houses. You're obviously delighted that your kid is making new friends and fitting in so well, but you'd be lying if your heart didn't skip a beat whenever you open your door to see Ava's six foot ten dad standing there with soft eyes and a sheepish smile. I have to stop here, because I've already written an extra paragraph for this man that I've cut out and pasted for safekeeping in my notes app, and if encouraged I will write more. (Please encourage me.)
Horangi: I know we already had a sort of Robert (Dream Daddy) figure with Ghost, but I think Horangi is a dad whose kid is an adult, much like Robert and Val. I also think that out of all the dads, Horangi is likely the one who's still doing some level of military work. Either that, or he has a very demanding job that takes up a lot of his time. He's ashamed of the way he let his gambling affect his family in the past, and is making up for it by being responsible and keeping his finances in order.
You don't meet him until you've lived in the neighborhood for quite a while, but he pops up at a gathering, talking quietly with König in a corner. You'd thought you had met every neighbor in the cul de sac, so you're intrigued by the newcomer. Someone, probably Price, tells you what Hong-jin's deal is, and ever since that you just can't keep your eyes off of him. You can't quite work up the nerve to talk to him, so you occupy yourself talking with the other parents. Some time later, you're at the food table grazing on the snacks when you look up and make eye contact with him. There's something intense in his gaze that makes you freeze, like a deer in headlights. He's definitely checking you out, you think. Your chest erupts into nervous butterflies when he starts walking towards you.
Keegan: Keegan is an adoptive father! I love his dynamic with the Walker boys, so I can see him being the kind of guy who adopts an older teenager so they have a home and a family instead of aging out of the system. Jason and Cecelia are high school age siblings who would have been separated otherwise, and consider Keegan their dad in every way that's important.
I think you and Keegan are definitely rivals in some way. Maybe it's a PTO thing, maybe he gets a little too boisterous at your kids' sports game. Whatever it is, you can't stand the man, but your annoyance whenever he's around only seems to amuse him. You have no problem saying to his face exactly what you think about him, but unfortunately, Keegan can see right through you. And hey, Cecelia could use some experience as a babysitter, so you won't have to worry about spending the night over at his place, will you?

I’m tired of weak pathetic 141-reader who can’t do anything, let’s talk about 141-reader who’s doing her best and then some. Spending all her spare time training - she knows she’s good, she’s in the 14-fucking-1, but she wants to be better. Reader who silently fumes when Price or Gaz grab her bag, trying to be nice. Reader who snatches it back with a “I can carry my own shit,” because yeah, she’s smaller and weaker than them but not for fucking long, and if she comes across as rude, who cares? Reader who’s so desperate to be the best she isolates herself, her jealousy turning into resentment. Reader who can knock grown men on their asses but it isn’t enough because she can’t beat Price, Simon, Kyle and Johnny all at once. Reader who’s considered a flight risk because she won’t follow orders. Reader who takes unnecessary risks and gets pissed off when she’s reprimanded because “I did what needed to be done!” And takes everything as an insult, refusing to think maybe the 141 aren’t out to get her. “You’re eating less, are you okay?” “I’m cutting, fuck you!” Or “that’s a big plate!” Joked about by the friendly Scot after you take all the bacon left over only to be greeted with a “fuck you, Johnny.” Uncooperative bitchy reader who hates that she’s at her physical best because she should be better.

Vast: Ghost Leviathan (Subnautica) "To me, they are pretty much the embodiment of the fear of the open ocean. Once you reach the Crater Edge the seabed drops away leaving nothing ahead but an empty void. You could fall through it forever if you let yourself. You get a message as you pass the boundary "Warning: Entering ecological dead zone. Adding report to databank." Keep going and an adult Ghost Leviathan will appear to kill you. Then another appears, and another. Aside from some microbes, these are the only things living out in the void. For any you manage to kill, another will take its place. As they grow, they migrate out to the void where they have enough space to keep growing. It's implied that they keep growing their whole lives."
The Eye: Vincent Price (The Price of Fear) "(To be clear, this is a fictionalised version of himself that he portrayed in a radio show, not the real life person. No one asked but “I’m scared” is such an underrated motivation for a character to do shitty things to others.
Sometimes it’s just that simple, but there’s always some deeper meaning as to why that character is scared— like the Bad Guy heavily traumatized Protagonist and now Protagonist is deathly afraid of getting on Bad Guy’s bad side again. It’s so underrated that a character is scared solely because the situation and personal consequences scare them more than the determent of others.
Maybe I’m not looking at that kinda of media that much, but sometimes I kinda just want a character to do shitty things to others because they’re scared. Like pressing the Big Red Button is gonna launch a nuke at the building they’re currently in with the Bad Guy, but if they chose not to then the whole rest of the city gets leveled by the Bad Guy’s evil death laser of doom— and then they chose not to press the button because they’re just frankly scared of dying. They entered this fight hoping to walk away, and now between the choice to save themselves or save others they indirectly kill everyone they knew because they were just to scared to pull the trigger on themselves.
So yeah maybe make characters be cowards a little more often?

when he tires of your moping and brooding, vampire!price lets you go for some years.
he watches you tear your way across another country, another age, bitter and angry. he used to worry, those first few ventures, that you’d pursue some silly notion of a cure or seek out your demise. that you’d waste your holiday and all his hard work. but, ever the paragon of patience, a being hardened by time and a devout observer of your habits—he knows you’re a coward. a spineless fledgling who can only dawdle for so long before you look for a hand to hold. despite his bite and all its benefits, it’s the one gift he never intends to bestow and a weakness he’ll never fortify.
historically, your separations end one of two ways.
the first and the more frequent outcome, begins with his rediscovery of an artifact or heirloom from your mortal life. (one of many he collected in those early days, before you knew the undead existed. before you knew he existed.) overcome with nostalgia, he tracks you down. you are never thorough enough to cover your tracks entirely or break your patterns. no matter where you go, he sniffs you out. communes. boarding houses. barracks. once, a convent.
he plucks you from your pitiful attempts at penance or enlightenment, drags you out by the collar, and forces your mouth to the nearest, weakest neck. rubs your nose in it like one would a dog. you put up a fuss and fight, but you drink. it’s instinct. stronger when closer to him. it goes down easier with his voice in your ear, anyway.
the second, rare and exquisite, are the times you crawl back to him. out from a dark pit of despair, caked in the soot and the shit of your own stirring. wounded, aching, and hungry. nothing tastes right without him. not enough necks in any part of the world to slake your thirst. can hardly savor a drop without him beside you to share. to hold your chin and wipe your lips.
so, after another world-ending argument, when you pack a bag and slaughter your human retainers, he simply lights a cigar and listens to the same grand overtures. you stamp your feet on the oushak, declare you won’t return, no matter what, and glare as he thumbs through a rolodex of names and faces. you don’t want an eternity of security and devotion? fine. hundreds more where you came from.
(of course, your would-be replacements are pale imitations. dolls he dresses, trains, and plays with. breaks. things to pass the time with.)
months later, price jolts awake in the early dawn. he’s only just closed his eyes when he feels it, a vibration traveling down the web to knock him out of slumber. the last gasps of his dinner still wet his beard and stain his tongue, yet they sour with realization. turn his stomach. he knows at once that you, his creation, have found what you believe to be a safe harbor. and it is not some podunk village or bustling metropolis—it isn’t a place at all. but it’s not like your other fleeting romances or trysts. no. you’ve found someone bigger and meaner to sidle up next to. someone whose pedigree he doesn’t recognize.
the sum of his terrible lineage stirs. an antediluvian possession raises his hackles.
oh darl, just whom have you invited in?

He loves watching the way your thighs jiggle as you walk, the way they ripple with every step always without fail has him staring
He loves watching the way your ass bounces as you grumble and struggle with your jeans, the way it's so thick it makes jean hunting hard
He loves the way your stomach folds every time you bend over to grab something, your shirt getting stuck in between the folds until you can straighten it out
He loves when you snuggle and he can use these perfect plump places as the most comfortable pillow known to man
He loves your body in a way that is infeasible to you, he loves all the folds and how much of you there is to hold
