✨complaining about gabriels armour yay✨

DISCLAIMER (please read): - i am doing this for fun. this is not a serious post. - this is not a criticism of gabriel's character design. - gabriel is an angel. obviously angels function differently to humans. the armour of angels in ultrakill could be purely decorative for all i know, but im evaluating it in terms of protection in relation to human anatomy. - i often specifically refer to protection against swords. this is because i am basing my knowledge off of medieval armour. (what im saying is: i know v1 uses guns im not stupid) - im not an expert on armour. i read about it for fun, as a hobby. if i get something wrong, PLEASE tell me i love getting new information about armour and i do not want to unintentionally spread misinformation.

initially i did a quick assessment of the gaps in the armour, which would be weak points. while ive seen some interpretations of gabriel wearing a sort of bodysuit, he is definitely not wearing a gambeson. this would make the armour uncomfortable to wear as there would be no padding under it.

the rest of the armour evaluation is in the images below. all of the text is also written out in the image descriptions.

after all this nitpicking, i decided to try to redesign gabriel's armour to make it more protective while keeping it similar to his original design and still recognisable as gabriel ultrakill.

• lowered pauldrons so they're not floating

• added an aventail to the helmet to protect his neck

• the golden parts of the cuirass no longer go inwards

• didnt add couters because i suck at drawing them but lets pretend that i did that to stay closer to his original design (besides he still has the elbow pieces on his vambrace to provide some defence)

• his gauntlets have articulated fingers now

• tassets are laminated rather than the layers he originally had. in retrospect i should have done tassets of three lame and decorated them similarly to gabriels original design but oh well

• i also imagine that he would be wearing a hauberk under the skirt

• added extra plates to the poleyns as well as side fins

• he's got proper sabatons now

• also he would be wearing a gambeson under his armour

• helmet is more like a visored bascinet

• there are actual holes for ventilation now, and there's more of them.

• there are also holes for vision yay

• didn't want to get rid of the gold bit that goes around the helmet so i changed the shape so that weapons wouldn't get caught on it, but would instead skate off. i think it should come closer to the visor on the side profile though. thank you for reading all of this i had a lot of fun doing this :-)

I think the general vibe would be "Dark Fairytale-esque", because while they are heavily inspired by the Fair Folk, they also will stab you and maybe eat your liver.

SURPRISINGLY enough, these expressions are looking much better than what I could have ever hopes- which begs the question of why my expressions in my finished drawings are always meh IMAO

So, I decided to give Agent Smith a redesign because I wasn’t fond of his original one anymore. He is very fond of the face opening mechanism that he has so he barely uses it. He is still a robot.

The blue orb-looking thing on his chest is a speaker so he can talk!

And here is his reference sheet! I kept his original colors from his first design because I liked it. Gonna go on about his backstory real quick. The story is probably messy and stuff, but this is what I have currently!:

Agent Smith was originally named Prototype, with him being a prototype for robots with human-like emotions to see if they could create a new population. Prototype was a lab rat, being put through all sorts of tests to see if he could feel complex emotion.

One day, Prototype wouldn’t comply with their commands and even fought back. He was tired of being treated like a lab rat and the tests were starting to affect him mentally.

Slowly, they came to the realization that perhaps making a new species of stick figures that are robots and can feel emotion wasn’t the best idea, and he was scrapped. He was found by Victim, who managed to possess a body and fix him, installing weapons and naming him Smith. Smith had no memory of his previous life but will occasionally have flashbacks, and he isn’t sure why.

He had to do a ritual to bring back Victim's body and because Victim helped him, he decided he’d help him get revenge on Alan, and yeah, they did become boyfriends some time later.

it's that time during my yearly mha obsession that I attempt to redesign the girls.

Uraraka's isn't horrible, I just think the astronaut theme could've been executed better. And the more I look at the heel boots the more they weird me out. Plus, her belt plus pink strip gives underwear vibes.

Loose pants, chonky space boots. That's all I wanted. This is like a first suit versus updated suit thing.

Momo's is the fucking worst of course. The cape she gets later on is the only good part of her suit. I'd be find with her having heels, but not three inches or whatever's going on here. Two max for being out in the field.

I meant to give her a bit more heel but forgot. Anyway, her thighs, stomach, and back are exposed since they're bigger areas of fat and parts of her arms are also exposed since I kind of imagine her pulling out stuff by reaching over as it's created. Again, a first suit next to a later update one. I gave her a mask later...I guess cause Midnight has one, idk.

The more I look at Mina's the less I dislike it. It's not bad, but once I saw that in the manga her pattern was meant to resemble poisonous frogs I got a bit disappointed in the first one again. Plus, for a hero named Pinky there's a lack of pink in her suit. I know SHE'S pink, but if you're gonna make it your name then put it in the suit!

I'm not super happy with either of these, but I think I got my point across with the first one. Pink and poison pattern! The one on the right was just a fun experiment, maybe one of her dance outfits or something i dunno.

This isn't a redesign edit this is me trying to figure out how I want my fanfic quirkless midoriya to look. His hero suit is honestly really good and I couldn't think of what I wanted to change, so I just adjusted the mask to more clearly have a smile and gave him a knife. The second has Hatsume Mei's grappling gear so that he can sort of Spider-Man around, metal on his shoes for kicking, and a bit of jetpack power on his shoes so that he can cushion his landings, give his jumps a boost, and maybe move around similar to Gran Torino. I'm not sure if I'll keep the clunky hip grapples since he has them on his wrists, but I drew it just in case.

also I just drew ON TOP of their official designs since they're just meant to be quick idea sketches, so I'm not going to claim this as completely original art, but these are my edits so just keep that in mind.

Quick idea for the Mc Movie! It's sort of a mish-mash between Mc Story Mode and maybe the Lego Movie, where people's faces are animated in 2D and the rest of their bodies are animated in sort of choppy claymation-style animation. Everything would be a bit more detailed, as shown by the Enderman, but not too much. Just to give some mobs and people more definition.

Miracu-class girls are done! It took less time than I initially anticipated, thank goodness. Let's talk re-write's and re-designs shall we?

Sabrina so freaking cute, give the girl her hat. It was probably a gift from Chloe. For her redesign I thought she would be the kind to dress in cute blouses and flowy skirts. She has tennis skirts in every color for every occasion. As for her re-write- anyone who saw how I changed Chloe probably will guess that their dynamic is drastically changes as well.

Sabrina met Chloe when they were in their tween years, Officer Roger having worked security for the Bourgeois on multiple occasions. One day he had to bring his daughter into work and Chloe found her wandering the halls. When a kidnapper tried to abduct Chloe, Sabrina sprayed him with pepper spray her father gave her and then kicked him in the dick for good measure. Chloe then declared that Sabrina should be her full-time body guard, and she technically is being paid to hang out with Chloe. But Sabrina would have done it with or without the money since Chloe is actually very endearing once you figure out how she works.

Alix is next! Alix's violently pink hair could not be ignored, so I kept it (albeit a little less saturated) Also she is in fact still short. Her outfits are probably all variations of sports gear unless she has an event to attend at the museum. I also tanned her up since I imagine she spends a lot of time outside, girl is sunburnt. She is actually a year ahead in history, having gotten too bored with junior level classes. So she's friends with some of the seniors too. I won't get into Bunnix anytime soon but- let's just say it's a lot more tragic than cannon would ever admit. The rabbit's powers are changing, and Alix still has to live with that.

On a lighter note, Juleka, as stunning as ever. Tall queen. She is a year behind since her lack of participation in classes ultimately tanked her grade in several subjects. Her band director was more then happy for her to stay an extra year though, since she is trained classically as well as electrically on the bass. She may not like talking, but she has little fear of performing when the music can do the talking. Her twin brother actually graduated early, and he's working now to help pay for the band the two want to start. Her design doesn't change much from her cannon one other than the fact I switched her ripped leggings for lace ones. I imagine she actually has many outfits in this color pallet, since Chat Noir quickly becomes her favorite hero.

Mylene, okay the change I made here is pretty obvious. I debated for a long time on whether or not I change her skin tone. And when I did the line art? Wasn't planning too. But changed my mind last second, since I thought it helped the color pallet more. This would imply she is mixed, with her dad looking pretty much the same as cannon. it's hard to tell her unless you look closely but I gave her freckles that just cover every inch of her. She is Sunkissed. He character isn't super different, she is still easily startled, but she knows what she believes and will fight for it no matter what.

And finally, Rose! The lovely Rosey! The flower child! Her nonspecific illness still definitely happened, but I like to think she has actually recovered. I do not know enough about most chronic illnesses to make any sort of specification on what she has so nameless headache disease it is! She struggled a lot as a kid, but now she's planning to start a non-profit to help kids who are going through hard times of their own. She definitely still has her down days, the fact that she nearly died so young is not something she is quick to forget. But she will do whatever she can to give other people hope, sinee she knows all too well what it feels like to be hopeless.

As for her design, she had a bucket of pink upturned on her. She did have to have her hair shaved as an affect of her illness but now it's growing back faster than ever. She gets it cut every time it gets past a certain length to donate it.

Okay, you like birds and you like superheroes, so you seem uniquely qualified to answer a question that’s bothered me for awhile: WHY is Red Robin named that when there’s already a Red Hood AND a Robin. It just. . . Blends with the rest of the post robin personas so poorly

(If the Crow wasn’t already taken I would have suggested that since Tim has that whole thing going on with the court of Owls and those two species notoriously hate each other.)

So if you could redesign Tim Drakes vigilante persona what would be your pick?

Hoo boy, now there's a goddamn question, isn't there? I answer it at the end, I promise, but I wanted to explain my reasoning. So, yeah, scroll down if you want the answer quick.

But OK, I can answer your first question really easily: why is Tim Drake called Red Robin if Red Hood already exists? Easy: because Red Robin came first. And I don't mean that as a concept or nursery rhyme or expression; I mean that a Robin, one of Batman's sidekicks, taking up the identity of Red Robin, existed first, complete with the costume. BEHOLD! Mark Waid and Alex Ross' brilliant comic book Kingdom Come, one of the most important DC Comics stories ever published, and arguably one of its most iconic near-future stories!

First published in 1996, this story came out after Tim Drake was introduced in comics, and well before Jason Todd came back to life as Red Hood. And...is actually Dick Grayson in the future, not Tim Drake. In fact, Tim never appears in Kingdom Come for some reason, but a future version of Damian surprisingly does! Ask Mark Waid, not me. Anyway, when DC introduced Damian Wayne into the main continuity, they realized two Robins weren't going to do. SO, they reintroduced the identity of Red Robin, and this time gave it to...Jason Todd. Yeah, Jason actually picked up the identity in main continuity first, during the Countdown to Final Crisis storyline. He was given the costume by Batman from an alternate universe that was a utopian society yaddayaddayadda, you get the point. Jason had it first.

But, that didn't last very long, and Jason became Red Hood again after that event was done. And so, Red Robin was eventually picked up by...Ulysses Armstrong. Yeah, the identity was stolen by a Nightwing and Robin villain previously known as the General, who was basically a child genius that used the identity to...well, kill Robin. Ulysses is an asshole, it's a whole thing. Anyway, after this event, FINALLY, Tim Drake takes up the mantle of Red Robin. So, yeah, Tim is the THIRD Red Robin in continuity. Which, now that you mention it, DOES make it odd that Tim would adopt the identity after it was stained by Ulysses. But, DC editorial wanted the Red Robin character to exist in canon, and Tim was the only character that made sense to wear the mantle. It's a reference for reference's sake, which isn't great, admittedly.

But, OK, you're asking me what I would do if given the reigns to Tim Drake's identity after Damian Wayne essentially steals the mantle of Robin. OK, Anonymous, I'll play your game. And I actually do have an answer to this question. First off, what does Tim Drake represent amongst the Robins, especially compared to the others and their superhero identities? All of the Robins are reflections of Batman himself, often somewhat unintentionally. Their superhero identities similarly reflect this. Let's give the two most prominent examples.

Nightwing is the superhero. Dick Grayson, originally, was the kid sidekick of Batman, and embraced that with a lightness that Bruce could never manifest. As a result, his ideals were that of the traditional superhero: the day-saving good guy who does the right thing for the disadvantaged, old chum. So, his adult persona reflects this. It's a reference to Superman (Nightwing was originally a superhero and Krypton that Superman told a young Dick about early in their friendship), and it's a sort-of cheesy heroic name that also references Batman. Nightwing, savior of Bludhaven! Has a ring to it.

Red Hood is a vigilante against the law. Jason Todd, originally, was a little street punk who stole the tires off of the Batmobile. He's a criminal. When he becomes Robin, he embraces the vigilante identity by also embracing his temper, becoming a rougher-around-the-edges Robin who doesn't follow the rules very well. And then, he dies at the Joker's hand. When he comes back to life, he embraces the idea of being a brutal vigilante that doesn't care about the rules or morality, essentially becoming a criminal in the process. And so, when he has to choose the name of a criminal, why not name himself after the man who created him: Joker. So, he names himself Red Hood, which is also the Joker's old identity before getting acid dipped. Maybe this was on purpose, maybe it was subconscious, but it doesn't matter. He wants to be a lawbreaker, so he gets the identity of a lawbreaker.

Damian Wayne is the martial artist. To be fair, Damian still hasn't come into his own as an adult, since he's...well, a teenager. Because of that, we don't know what his identity is going to be, other than...well, Batman. Yeah, he's quite literally the son of Batman, so it does make sense that he'd become the next Batman. But again, that is yet to be seen. In terms of being a reflection of his father, though, he's the overdisciplined and overserious martial artist, and also...a child. Yeah, no offence to Bruce, but he's still in many ways a child in a mask. And so, Damian originally represented that. But now, as he's grown older in comics, he instead reflects the self-assured determination of his father, as well as the superior martial arts skills. And that finally leaves one major aspect unaccounted for, and you know what it is.

Tim Drake is the detective. Look, Tim is known as the "smart Robin" for a reason...because he is. He's the smart Robin. But in terms of being a reflection of Batman, he represents the Dark Knight's more Holmesian aspects. He's the inquisitive analyst, the tactician, the observer, the planner. So, whatever Tim's adult persona is, it should reflect him as a detective and tactician. And here's a question: should it be a bird at all? I mean, Nightwing only evokes a bird, and Red Hood definitely isn't a bird. So maybe Tim should actually be the only one to keep the bird thing in earnest. But if he does...maybe he could be a little smarter about it.

Y'know, I like your suggestion of "Crow", Anonymous. Smart bird, love the enemy of owls point, too. But Crow feels...off. It's not a great superhero name, as you pointed out. Of course, we're really looking for the name of a good detective. So, maybe you have the right family, just the wrong member. SOme people I've seen suggest Jackdaw, which...come to think of it, may just be a Reddit joke, but either way, I don't like it? So, instead, how about...

The Rook (Corvus frugilegus) is a Eurasian corvid known for its ability to solve problems. It's often seen in the presence of similar, related birds (like the Jackdaw), and lives in nests called rookeries. They have the ability to use complex tools, and even understand the concept of gravity. But perhaps the biggest reason why I think Tim should take up the name Rook, other than the fact that his hideout already has a name now (the Rookery), and the fact that he can keep the "R" on his costume, AND the fact that Rook is also a pretty good codename for a detective or spy...is the double meaning.

After all...I feel like Tim is the kind of person who plays a lot of chess to harness his skills in planning and tactics, amongst other games. He probably has played a lot of games with Alfred, maybe with Bruce. And another name for the castle piece is, of course, the rook. A double-meaning, and BOTH work for the character. And for some reason, I've never seen anybody suggest this as a name for Tim Drake. Maybe I haven't looked in the right places, but thinking on it now...I honestly really want this name for him in the future. Give him a dark costume, maybe replace the red with blue, or even give him the Red Robin costume, recolored to reflect this identity instead! The possibilities abound, really.

Hopefully that was a satisfying answer for you! May not work for everybody, but that's what I would do if I were in charge of Time Drake! Definitely not Drake, or Sparrow, or the other names he's been given in the last few years, just sayin'.

A first look at Mei’s redesign, I was originally planning on saving showing her until i finished all my ref sheets but i think her cute little grumpy face is worth sharing lol

some tidbits about the design:

Mei is very much a cuddle bug.. so she is a woman of many coats. Anything that she can snuggle in <3

I’ll get into this more when I give a full rundown but her main plan of attack is always to just run in headfirst, so she has adopted the idea of wearing thicker armor (not completely though, because she is very quick and needs to be agile) but she does take on the arm so she can sorta use it as a shield to barge in if you get me

She doesn’t wear them all the time though, and her waistband can be replaced with a regular jedi waistband

The shoulder pauldron belonged to her padawan, personally i like to think that the “white” on clone armor is some sort of outer layer, and when Mei stripped it to alter the armor, the grey is the next layer below that white coat

When she was a very young padawan, she suffered a pretty nasty blow to the face which scarred deep and damaged her eye. This is where her faux heterochromia comes from, along with the white hair on that side of her head. I haven’t settled on the accidents specifics but it was definitely force related. The actual scarring on her face is pretty faint now that she is grown, but the hair and eye remain prominent.

the red ribbon in her hair may or may not have a matching ribbon around Laws wrist <3 I have yet to finish his design though so you’ll just have to take my word for it

happy Astro Bot release day!! 🩵

real ones know just how important this little guy is to me. Astros Playroom was my first dip into the PS5, on my mates console while they were at work in 2020, and it absolutely captivated me. the gorgeous visuals and super fun gameplay that actually used the Dualsense features, it became a quick and strong hyperfix for me and inspired my NEED for my own PS5. i still remember the day i got my first one clear as day, curled up in a ball freezing cold outside Argos at 6am in north west English November 2020, it must have been -6C but i was determined to get my hands on it, Astro really stuck with me.

i made this second sona in early 2023 after my billionth replay of Playroom, as a sort of cross over between my self representation and the robots of Astro universe (with some Stray Companion bot inspiration in there as well). he even got his name from the devs of the Astro series, Team Asobi. i didnt realise that Asobi would go on to be a sort of mascot for my "brand" i guess in addition to being a sona, that's been my Youtube PFP since the artwork's creation and featured in other Youtubers works. i dont speak about him much or draw him often these days (to the point j forgot how to draw him, hence the hideous redesign i reverted) but Asobi and, in turn, his inspiration Astro Bot, continue to be so SO important to me.

this game was announced at one of my lowest points outside of 2016 IYKYK,, it was a huge turning point for me. Astro felt like a self contained niche interest, no one else i knew had even heard of the franchise, even fellow PS5 owners, PSVR owners etc, i felt so alone in my adoration for him and Playroom. so when this game, a full length actual title expanding on the tech demo i could not get enough of was announced, especially at such a peak low for me - it was an ABSOLUTE gamechanger. suddenly i'm meeting my fellow Astro appreciators, seeing exclusive controller skins released (which i managed to bag before the scalpers, thank you EE, no one thought to check you 🤭), i even just got accepted as a moderator on the modestly sized and growing Astro Bot discord server! it's so rewarding finally seeing the Astro franchise finally getting the love it SO much deserves, for its enchanting visuals and super charming mascot, and gameplay so fun and intuative it genuinely rivals Nintendo in 3D platformer delight. i realise how corporate i sound saying all this - i'm not sponsored or affiliated, i just love Astro so so so much ;; 🩵

Howdy Slay the Princess friends! I wanted to show off my Voices designs, they’re still very likely to change cause I’m still not quite happy with all of them, but I hope you enjoy them! :3c

Explanations and a few extras below the cut! :) (This ended up being a kinda long post so be warned!)

For the most part I try to use the same body shape for all of them, with the only differences being their accessories and some beak variation. None of them have wings either- I don't like drawing them that much so they're reserved for TLQ

Alright here we go- explanation time!

Hero - Knight's helmet based on the default warrior class helmet from Miitopia, no clue if the feather, ponytail, thing... is his actual feathers or part of the hat and I probably never will. I love how he looks even if the helmet sucks to draw

Broken - Shackle and chain around his neck, not much to say about this guy, I was a bit worried it was too similar to the Prisoner's shtick at first but it's grown on me

Contrarian - Jester's cap, the most common defining accessory I saw for him in fanart and thought it fit. Probably gonna change him cause the current iteration doesn't feel quite right. (Either hat redesign or something new)

Opportunist - A tie and ripped dress shirt, I wanted a smarmy business-ey feel for him but didn't think a nice shirt would fit in with the aesthetic of the game, so I gave him a ripped one (he probably found it on the ground somewhere)

Paranoid - Perfume pendant, I adore this concept but have had a hard time conveying it properly. The pendant is filled with smelling salts in case he needs to wake someone up. I want to keep this concept so much but I know it has to go through a few more designs cause I don't really know what it's supposed to look like. Planning on adding another necklace and maybe a clock?

Smitten - A shawl with heart shaped embroidery and a flower broach, I... Don't know how to feel with this one? It doesn't quite fit Smitten's exuberance but I don't know what I would give him instead. Will probably change later if I do come up with something better

Hunted - Hooded cloak, for camouflage :0 (it's a very short cloak though basically only covers his shoulders.) I drew him twice so you could see both versions, realistically he'd always have the hood up but I find it hard to draw and doesn't look as good so I don't bother, (it probably looks weird because the hooded version is missing the feather tufts, I added a quick sketch of the hood with them below)

Cold - A hole in his chest (shamelessly based on Mad Rat Dead,) Cold didn't seem like the type to have any worldly possessions so this was the most literal way I could convey his 'heartless' personality, it is kinda bending my rule of giving all these guys unique accessories but it fits him quite well so I don't mind

Skeptic - Detective hat, this is another one that I think looks a bit weird due to the lack of tufts (version with them below) and I don't know how well this fits his personality, but Skeptic is probably the voice I'm least familiar with so I'm kinda just ignoring redesigning him until I get a better grip on his character (I also don't really know how to draw this hat- I tried my best lol)

Cheated - Cut off tuft and scars, I had a really hard time coming up with this one and I'm still not quite sure how I feel about it. It's another one that bends my rule of having accessories but I couldn't think of anything to put on him that fit the vibe of 'Being salty from repeatedly losing to someone using hacks in a game.' (Yes, that's how I summarize Cheated's personality lol)

Stubborn - ...Isn't here, Oops? Yeah, you probably noticed but I don't actually have a design for him yet. I might give him a cape? idk. He's another voice I don't really have a good grasp on, I have to play through his chapters again :')

Anyways! I had put my sort of 'design rules' for these guys in an older version of this post but I ended up not vibing with it so I edited it out- I like the post a lot better without all the excess stuff

And finally as the send-off to the post (and a thanks for reading all) here's the extra bits! My one Long Quiet full body, the Hunted and Skeptic sketch with their tufts, and a bonus Opportunist cause I realized you can't really tell what the shirt looks like lol
