“Here it is!” you say triumphantly, pulling a purple book off one of Steven’s lower shelves.

Steven takes the book in his hands gingerly, as if it’s something sacred. “Why do you have this, anyway?”

You shrug. “My college roommate was really into astrology and tried to get me interested, too. I just never got rid of it. It’s sentimental, I guess.”

Steven nods, already flipping through the pages as he makes his way to the couch. “So, what signs are Marc and Jake, again?” he asks, not looking up.

You join him on the couch. “Both Pisces, oddly enough,” you remark.

He hums. “Maybe I should be, too.” He quickly consults the table of contents before flipping to the page on Pisces. “‘Empathetic, imaginative, creative,’” he reads. He skims a few more pages before saying, “It’s all a bit vague, innit?”

You laugh. “I guess it is, yeah.”

“Well, you can turn on the telly or grab your own book, if you like. This will take me a bit to get through.”

You stare at him. “You’re not gonna read the whole thing, are you?”

He looks back at you, confused. “How else will I know what sign I am?”

“I don’t think it’s that serious,” you say. “Jake just picked a date he liked.”

Steven just shrugs. “I’d like to see what the book says, I think.”

“Alright,” you say with a shrug of your own. “Knock yourself out.” You scooch towards the other end of the couch, where your latest read is waiting on the end table. You turn on the lamp and settle in.

Steven’s a fast reader. In the time it takes you to slog through a few chapters, he’s closing the astrology book with a satisfying thump. “All done,” he announces.

You close your own book after marking your place with a bookmark (a slightly crumpled receipt counts as a bookmark, right?). “And? What’d you pick?”

“Virgo,” he says.

“Yeah?” you ask, interested. “Why’s that?”

Steven finds the appropriate page and reads, “‘Intelligent, analytical, hard-working.’” He looks to you, his confidence wavering. “That…sounds like me, right?”

You offer him a kind smile. “I think so, yeah. Did you pick a date?”

He shakes his head. “Not yet.” He briefly looks down again. “Says here I can do any day from the twenty-third of August to the twenty-second of September.”

You hum.

“Wait a second…” Steven trails off, grabbing his phone out of his pocket and typing something in.

“What?” you ask.

“Aha!” he says. “Twenty-fourth August. That’s what I want my birthday to be.”

“How come?”

“Tomb Buster premiered on that day in 1990. I reckon us Steven Grants should have the same birthday,” he explains with a grin.

You can’t help but match his smile. “August twenty-fourth it is, then. I’ll add it to my calendar.”

He closes the book again and hands it back to you. “Thank you for lending that to me, love.”

“Any time,” you say, taking the book and returning it to its spot on the bookshelf. You glance at the clock. “Ready to start on dinner?”

“Sounds good to me,” Steven says, standing up and following you to the kitchen.

After dinner has been taken care of and you’ve watched a movie, you’re in the bathroom getting ready for bed. You can hear Steven talking outside the door. You assume he’s conversing with his alters.

When you exit the bathroom, you see Steven standing at the fish tank, bottle of fish food in hand. He doesn’t seem to notice you as he continues on speaking. You realize he’s talking to the fish.

“Maybe I should’ve picked Pisces, Gus,” he muses.

Gus II and his two tank-mates, Tom and Jerry (named together by Marc and Jake, despite Steven’s protests), swim around in slow circles, seemingly waiting for Steven to feed them.

He shakes the bottle, watching the flakes drop gently into the water. “Then all three of us would be the same. And Pisces is fish, innit? It fits.”

“Steven!” you groan playfully. “You can’t just change your zodiac sign!”

“Why not?” he counters. “I just picked it today. There should be some sort of trial period, right?”

You snort. “Maybe, but I like the day you picked. It means something to you.”

“Alright, fine,” Steven says. He bids the fish good night before following you to the bed.

You settle in under the covers and say good night to one another. Your eyes are closed when you hear Steven ask into the darkness, “Do I get a cake for my birthday?”

You smile to yourself. “If you want one.”

“And presents?”

“Of course.”

It’s quiet for a moment. Then, “What about balloons?”

“Whatever you want, Steven,” you say fondly. “Whatever you want.”

you just shrug it off and agree because ever since he suddenly moved in with you you two have become pretty good friends

also he’s very cute and seems clueless as to how a demon is supposed to behave, so you secretly don’t think he’d ever be able to take your soul

plus, you know he’s taken a liking to you and his soft spot for you won’t allow him to harm you

really you kinda just chill in your room all day and watch series or play games??

he’s more like a brother you get along with super well than a demon trying to kill you

however, when other demons find out that he’s not doing his job, they decide to do it for him

you can trust him to always hide you well and keep the other demons at a distance

he will do everything he can to protect you from them

Renjun:

the annoyed demon

has been living as a demon for so long that he’s kinda getting tired of it tbh

especially if he ends up choosing a person who doesn’t give up their soul so easily

unfortunately, you are one of those people

so when he realizes this, he just begins to dread the whole thing aksdjfölka

however, he takes his duties as a demon very seriously, and his pride won’t just let him ditch you - he has to see this through until the end

when he finally reveals himself to you, because you just will not give him any kind of opening to steal your soul otherwise, you are understandably scared at first

however, when he offers to grant you your biggest wish, you start to wonder if it’s worth making a deal with him, because surely he must want something in return?

you stay suspicious and start asking questions to figure out what exactly he is

and in the end this discussion is being dragged out so much that he simply lets out a deep sigh and admits everything lol

but since he already promised to grant you a wish, you decide to trick him and wish for him to be your loyal servant until the end of time

which, in your dictionary means he shouldn’t be able to take your soul in the first place, and in his eyes it means that he might still have a chance

so here he is, your own personal servant, who you also just made a pact with

you make him do stuff like bringing you snacks or doing your work for you at first, receiving death glares in exchange

however, at some point a weird tom-and-jerry like friendship starts between you two, and you actually start enjoying spending time with each other

he keeps joking about how he will simply murder you and take your soul while you’re sleeping at night whenever you annoy him in the slightest

but he says that with such an adoring smile on his face ???? 

technically he shouldn’t be able to do that, as it goes against what you wished for - he’s still Renjun tho, so you can never be too sure…

and no matter how well you get along in the end, he will still end up taking your soul one day

Jeno:

the soft-hearted demon

one night you wake up to him, looking all scary and threatening, on top of you, pinning you down to your bed so you can’t escape

you’re obviously scared and don’t know what’s going on

you try to scream, but no sound will come out when he covers your mouth with one hand

and then suddenly you see his features become very soft and the tension leaving his body

has a mental breakdown in the corner of your room because your eyes were wide with fear and you looked so scared and he just isn’t cut out for this whole demon lifestyle

disappears after that but realizes he’ll get in trouble if you reveal his identity, now that you know his face

so he returns one day, politely knocking on your window pane until you let him in :’)

you’re obviously suspicious and scared at first, but then he starts incoherently rambling about his worries

you understand nothing

he panics and eventually leaves again?????

he really is NOT cut out for this…

eventually he HAS to return to you though, because he’s in danger, and you’re also now in danger of being found by other demons

explains himself a bit more coherently this time and out of guilt he offers to protect you???

wasn’t he supposed to take your soul instead???

you’re not sure how this bundle of soft feelings and internal panic is supposed to protect you, but he also refuses to leave with a huge pout on his lips so you decide to let him stay for now

when other demons start swarming your home a bit after that, he makes sure to ward off every single one of them

you grow closer and you come to trust him eventually, feeling reassured that he can protect you

Haechan:

the troublesome demon

technically pretty smart, because he takes the time to observe and get to know about you first

however, when you can’t sleep and keep rolling around in bed and getting up and lying down again several times the very night he was planning on surprising you in your sleep to take your soul, he loses all patience

lets out a huge groan eventually and crawls out from under your bed, wordlessly goes to the kitchen to get chips while mumbling something about needing snacks to calm down, and then sits next to you to watch you fall asleep

obviously NOW you can’t fall asleep because there’s a stranger in your bedroom??? eating your snacks???

he does not explain anything, he just sits there grinning to himself while snacking away

only when you scream in terror that you’re going to call the police, he gets up

“Whoa there, no need to go that far.”

explains that he’s just some apparition and you’re actually already sleeping and you’re just having this hyperrealistic dream to process some kind of hidden worry??

decides that he could just have a bit of fun with you before doing his work, so he crawls out from his hideaway every other night to chat with you

eventually he also convinces you to play games with him and to cook midnight snacks together

he originally made this all a part of his plan to get you to trust him but actually?? spending time with you??? is a lot of fun??

also maybe he’s developing a little crush on you and he can’t decide if that makes it more dreadful or more fun to take your soul later on

he ends up getting really attached to you and clings to you all the time

that is until one night, another demon comes to take your soul and he protects you, ending up explaining everything to you

becomes your personal guardian and gaming buddy after that

Jaemin:

the responsible demon

one day he simply appears and starts telling you what to do??

nags you to do your homework and teaches you how to do taxes

gets really annoying when you don’t do your chores

“I cannot have you live like this.”

lists 74385723 reasons why you should keep your house clean and take care of yourself (literally who askeddddd???)

threatens you to take your soul on the spot if you don’t do what he says aksjdflka

actually very caring and means well, but just cannot watch you procrastinate on stuff that needs to be done eventually

at this point he doesn’t feel like an intruder anymore, so you just accept that there’s this supernatural being somehow supporting you in getting your life together

he also doesn’t really give you the time to figure out that maybe keeping him around could potentially be dangerous to you

either way, you actually come to appreciate his efforts in motivating you, and as he too gets more used to you and takes a liking to you, his words become more gentle

that doesn’t mean he will let you slack off and procrastinate on things that are just stressing you out unnecessarily because you keep not doing them

also has weirdly specific household tips and tricks for you??

if you attempt to cut into your sleep time by staying up too late, he will literally pull you to your bed and not let you get up again until morning kjsdflkas

forces you into taking good care of yourself, and he’s somehow both the nicest and the most annoying being you know

but as a responsible demon, he still has to do his job of taking your soul eventually

however, there’s still some time until then; after all he has to make sure you’re eating three healthy meals a day and that your tax return is filled out correctly

Chenle:

the melancholic demon

tells you in detail about how life on earth was 800 years ago

you think you’re having a fever dream when someone suddenly emerges from under your bed and starts off a conversation with “You know, back in my days…”

dude, you’re like 20, what are you talking about???

really, he’s been wandering this world for hundreds of years, not aging physically due to him being a demon

and now he’s here to take your soul - he doesn’t literally tell you that though

instead, he starts openly explaining how he’s taken the souls of many other people and how you can’t escape him anyway, due to his experience and knowledge of the human mind

basically he’s explaining to you in the most chill and unfazed way possible that he’s about to kill you, while throwing in some memories here and there, feeling nostalgic

you’re in for a very long night, because this guy just won’t stop talking and sharing his wisdom, and at times it seems like he doesn’t even care if you’re listening or not

at some point asks if you happen to have a good bottle of wine at home??? kind of like a last supper he wants to have with you??

what is wrong with him

eventually you join in on the conversation and he finds what you’re saying so interesting that he takes an instant interest in you

maybe he won’t take your soul right away?

you somehow end up talking until sunrise, and to your surprise he simply crawls back under your bed and disappears? you feel even more like you just had a very long fever dream now

however, the following night he returns to talk to you again, claiming that he had so much fun and for as long as you manage to entertain him he will spare you

obviously you feel very pressured now, maybe even so pressured that you fail to find something to talk about at all

rest assured though, he’s been in this for long enough to not let any chance to enjoy the small things in life slip away, so he always helps you out in finding a topic for a conversation

Jisung:

the awkward demon

has no clue what he’s doing

like that villain who always explains his grand plan of evil to you before actually executing it, except make it very awkward and also there is no actual execution of the plan that follows

he’s a shy bean and who even ever thought he’d do well as an entity designed entirely to take people’s souls???

and it’s his first time taking someone’s soul too, so he’s just very anxious, and what if he embarrasses himself??? (like that’s the part he should be most worried about???)

anyway, he has a super-foolproof plan (at least he thinks it’s foolproof), which already fails at step one

so one night you’re lying in your bed, about to fall asleep, when you hear something rustling under your bed

you don’t think much of it, but when you hear the noise again you decide to get up and take a look

you turn on the lights and find a person hiding there in plain sight, eyes squinting because it’s too bright and holding a huge bag of sweets in his arms

he’s very dumbfounded

eventually he holds out the sweets to you and goes “Let me take your soul in exchange for these treats!”

you start screaming, because there is a complete stranger under your bed and how did he even get there??? so he finally jumps out, slamming his hand over your mouth

“Shh!! What if someone hears us or finds out I’m here?”

eventually changes his bribe into you shutting up about him in exchange for the sweets, and also slips up somewhere in between, revealing that he is - in fact - a demon

now he feels so guilty for inconveniencing you that he’s unable to take your soul

therefore he simply surprises you every night with a new supply of sweets

he still has a lot to learn, sigh…

and then, while the pair are holidaying at their beachfront property, a pillage rages upon the town they're in. it's the most beautiful sight ralph's ever seen. the adventure of it all, the passion they all have. especially you, taking charge of it all. but ralph's no fool, he knows there's no way you'd take a man of high society such as himself seriously if he were to ask to come aboard. thankfully for him, ralph's always been good at not being seen.

bsbl epilogue 2: (a follow up from this fic, to be posted on @busyralph) today, ralph penbury wakes up at 5:30am on the dot, thanks to his very handy silently vibrating alarm on his phone. not that he needs the humming beneath his pillow to wake him up. he already woke up at 2:17. and again at 3:39. and again at 3:52. and again at 4:57. you see, this is a big day for ralph.

today is the day he proposes to the love of his life.

long time no see: years ago, when you were freshly 18, you'd had yourself a most epic whirlwind summer romance with the very cute handyman at the caravan park you were staying in. although it never ended on bad terms, university life just kept getting in the way and you and tom lost touch.

fast forward, years later, you wonder if it's a coincidence that the big business client your boss so desperately wants you to net happens to be called thomas grant. but there's no denying that face, those eyes, that spark between you.

worth the wait: (an old wip i found that i'm kinda feeling again) you've got a real soft spot for tom, you have done since he started coming to your pub. you never wanted to say anything when you'd see how obviously his "girlfriend" was feigning happiness around him, but you hid your triumphant glee at the news of their breakup when he came to you to drown his sorrows.

and now that he's getting over her, he's starting to get a little more confident with the way he talks to you - flirts with you, even. if only you could get him to say all those things while sober.

and so he gets to work on fixing that. to embody the... dirty stripper cop persona he's promised you, he needs to believe in it, he needs to become it. he just hopes you won't lose interest by then.

man's best friend: you're starting a new jogging route, one you're hoping to take your own dog on once he's recovered from the Big Snip, when you're greeted by what looks like a stray, quickly followed by a guy who tells you he's taken her in until he can find her a good home.

the more you jog down the same route, the more you see keys and his dog, that's not his. he's just looking after her. in the same way you just go past the same places every day just to get a routine going. totally not in the hopes you'll keep running into your new favourite duo.

It was supposed to be a calm, wholesome movie night. He just wanted to spend some time with you, especially since work has been pulling him away from you more and more often. Of course, you happily agreed, eager to see the man of your dreams after being apart for nearly a week and a half. All you wanted was to be near him, and a sweet stay-at-home date was perfect.

Yet somehow you find yourself in Tom' lap on his couch, your arms laced around his neck, his own wound tight around your waist, your lips moving together in a frantic rhythm. The room was spinning, it had to be. Tom's tongue slides against yours and your brain is putty, your body pushing into his eagerly, desperate to be closer than you already are.

"Missed you so much, Tommy," you whisper through heavy breaths before dipping your head to bite and suck on his neck. The feeling of your lips kissing at his throat has Tommy throbbing in his sweatpants, his hips naturally starting to rock up into yours.

"Missed you more, love, was going f-fucking crazy without you here," he drawls out, his accent thicker in his lustful haze. You feel his hips shifting and meet his pace, letting your core get the friction it craves. "Oh my god."

"Tommy," you moan and sink your teeth into the tender flesh beneath his ear, his hands tightening their grip on you. Suddenly, your teeth gently scrape the sensitive skin of his earlobe. The next thing you know, Tom's moaning your name in the most fucked-out voice you've ever heard and rubbing the growing wet spot in his sweats against your core as fast as he could.

"FUCK! FUCK!" He cries out, his entire body shaking as he comes. Trembling hands clutch your body into his as he gasps for air, his mind reduced to static and cotton candy clouds. "Ohhhh fuck."

You smile to yourself and hold him, giggling with him when he relaxes back to look up at you with a flushed face and that annoyingly handsome and boyish smile. You share another round of laughs before he draws you in for a loving kiss.

"I'm going to marry you one day, you know that?" He sighs happily with a smile, "but right now, I'm going to make you cum so many times you forget your fucking name."

"Babe? Have you seen my hoodie..." Tom's voice trailed off when his eyes landed on you.

You were sitting cross-legged on the sofa in the living room wearing exactly the hoodie he was searching for. In fact, you were wearing entirely his clothes. His hoodie, his trackies, even his socks. Hell, he wouldn't have been surprised if you were wearing his boxers too.

"Nope, haven't seen it," you answered him as if you weren't aware that you were wearing his clothes at all, although he could see the small glint of mischief that shimmered in the depths of your eyes.

"Come on, love. Give it back, the others are all in the wash." He held out his arm expectantly as he walked over to you, waiting for you to at least return his hoodie to him.

You looked up at him and tilted your head to the side, still pretending you didn't know what he was talking about. "What do you mean? I don't have it."

He sighed and folded his arms over his chest, although he couldn't hide the small smile playing on his lips. "You're wearing it, y/n. You’re wearing all my clothes."

Comically, your eyes widened and you glanced down to look at yourself, holding the fabric in your hands as you looked back up at him with a grin. "Oh, so I am. Well, you can't have them back."

"Why not?"

You jumped to your feet, moving closer to him as you wrapped your arms around his neck with a smirk. "Because I'm a clothes stealer and it wouldn't be stealing if I gave them back, would it?"

Again, he sighed as he looked down at you, wrapping his arms around you as he began to sway slightly. "A clothes stealer, huh? Well, why are you only stealing my clothes?"

"Hmm, I like how they smell," you admitted.

"And how do they smell?"

With another smile, you pressed a chaste kiss to his lips and leaned forward so that your head rested near his shoulder. "They smell like you."

He chuckled softly as he embraced you, his body still swaying ever so gently from side to side. "Okay but if you never let me wear them they'll stop smelling like me."

You stepped back, leaving his arms with a frown as you hooked your fingers under the hem of the hoodie with a huff. “Fine, you can wear it... but you better give it back when you get home.”

His lips curled up into a sweet smile as you pulled his hoodie off, outstretching an arm to pass it back to him. Under the hoodie, you had on one of his shirts and he couldn’t help but chuckle again.

He took the item of clothing from you and leaned forward to kiss you again. “I won’t be long. You want anything from the shop?”

With a hand pressed to your chin, you hummed in thought, watching him put the hoodie you had been wearing on. “Could you get me a KitKat? I’m craving something sweet.”

You giggled when he jumped you, knocking you back down onto the sofa as he hugged you. When he lifted himself off of you slightly you were met with another kiss. “Oh, I’ll give you something sweet when I get back.”

“Yeah?”

With a nod, his lips met yours again although he was parting from you far too soon.

“Yeah.” His voice was heavy, filled with a promise before he climbed off of you.

He grabbed his wallet and keys off the side, gave you one last smile, and headed off to the shop, leaving his little clothes thief to wait anxiously for his return.

The sun had long since set, cooling the beach down to a much lower temperature than you were prepared for. The fire doesn’t do much to warm you, so you’re kicking yourself for not thinking to bring your sweater down with you. And you know yourself, if you head back up to the park with the intention of grabbing something to keep you warm, you’ll just end up calling it a night. So you decide to suffer, hoping the alcohol from your shitty beer will warm you up.

You try to focus on the people around you, joining in on what conversations you can. But a shiver wracks through your body before you can control it, and Tom’s head immediately turns to look at you.

“You cold?” he asks, as if it’s not insanely obvious at this point. You rub your bare arms in an attempt to warm them up a little bit.

“A little,” you lie, trying to play it off. “Forgot my sweater.”

“Here,” Tom says, beckoning you over with his head. You smile, appreciative of his generosity, and get up from your chair as he begins to unzip the hoodie he’s wearing. You try to stamp down your excitement at wearing Tom’s sweater. It looks cozy and it likely smells like him. And maybe the sight of you wearing it will scare off some of the vacationing folks who’ve been flirting with him this week. Not that he’s yours to claim.

But when he doesn’t pull off the hoodie, you stand there, your brow furrowing in confusion. Wasn’t he offering it to you?

“Come on,” he says impatiently, before patting his lap. Your eyes widen as you realize what he’s actually offering. 

This is definitely new territory for the two of you. Playful flirting is one thing, but sitting on his lap by a bonfire on the beach at night and sharing his sweater? This is something else entirely. Something more…intimate.

You try not to read too much into it – he’s just offering because he’s your friend and he’s sweet and you’re cold.

You settle on his thighs and lean back against his chest, wrapping your arms around yourself as he zips you into his hoodie. It’s a bit of a stretch with both of you inside, but you’re immediately warmed by his body against your back. After a few moments he wraps his arms around you, and you can’t help but melt into the embrace.

“Better?” he practically whispers, his lips briefly brushing the shell of your ear. You let out a gasp at the sensation, your body warming even more.

“Yeah, much better,” you confirm. And before you can say anything else, Tom’s lips press against your cheek, giving you a soft peck.

“Good,” he says, before settling back against the chair and picking up his conversation with someone next to him.

[Y/N] gently rubbed in between his shoulder blades and coaxed his to lock his lips with their’s again. Tom crawled his way back up the short distance to their lips and lowered himself down onto them again. Their lips gently moulded with one another’s as their make out session resumed. The couple would kiss for a few seconds. Then pull away to fondly gaze into one another’s eyes ,along with that moment being used so they could catch their breath, kiss again and repeat.

“One. Second.” Tom said in between kisses. 

[Y/N] leaned back on their arms as Tom moved off of them to take off his shirt. They admired him in all of his shirtless glory. They found themselves doing that a lot. Admiring Tom. And not only when he was shirtless.

Tom kissed his way up [Y/N]’s fully clothed body as he crawled back on top of them. [Y/N]’s heart beat loudly once again with each kiss. They wondered if Tom could hear it whilst he continued his kisses.

“I love you.” [Y/N] whispered. “So much.”

“I love you too.” Tom gazed down at them with nothing but admiration in his eyes. “More than words can describe.”

Tom slowly lowered himself down until he was able to kiss [Y/N] on the lips again. His movements were gentle and filled with so much love. [Y/N] wondered how they got this lucky. He was the literal definition of the perfect boyfriend. What did they do to deserve him?

Tom’s tongue poked at their closed lips to coax [Y/N] to part them. Whilst their kisses slightly escalated, [Y/N] couldn’t help but keep hold of his biceps. Just one of the things that they found very attractive about him. Their grip tightened as the kiss grew more heated. [Y/N] whined quietly as they began to run out of breath.

“Fuck. You’re perfect.” Tom mumbled, slightly out of breath.

A quick kiss was pressed to [Y/N]’s lips. 

“So perfect.”

Tom’s biceps slightly flexed under [Y/N]’s hold as he moved to gently cup their cheek. He gazed at them for a moment before he brought his lips down to their neck. Tender kisses were peppered along their skin.

“‘M thinking that you should take off your shirt.” Tom’s words were muffled.

“Why don’t you take it off for me?” [Y/N] responded.

A loud “Mwah!” left Tom’s lips as he placed a harder kiss to the crook of their neck. With a grin, he eagerly helped [Y/N] out of their shirt. His big brown eyes shone with excitement. Tom instantly kissed the newly exposed skin once the fabric had been thrown away to the side and left some small nips in between.

“Could kiss you forever.” Tom admitted.

“Kissing you is very addictive.” [Y/N] wrapped their arms around his back and felt his muscles flex with each movement.

“Would be even better if we didn’t need air.” Tom pecked their lips.

[Y/N] smiled at Tom’s words. That would be the dream. Just them in their bed as they kiss non stop. The outside world not disturbing them. Just them existing, and kissing, without a care in the world. Speaking of being disturbed, [Y/N]’s stomach suddenly growled.

“Did your stomach just?” Tom asked with a grin.

“It did.” [Y/N] laughed in response. “I was waiting for you to come home so we could have dinner together.”

“Well, we can’t have that. Let’s get some grub in you, yeah?”

The kisses didn’t stop as the couple made their way to the tiny kitchen. Tom walked backwards, arms around the whilst [Y/N] walked forward with their hands gripped around his biceps once again. They’d make food. Eventually. But for now, they were content with giving and receiving kisses from one another. Tom and [Y/N] would probably end up getting distracted whilst they made food and continue their make out session.
