“CREW OF SOUTHERN CROSS ON THEIR ARRIVAL IN NEW YORK,” Kingston Whig-Standard. June 28, 1930. Page 1. ---- This picture of the famous Southern Cross pilot, Capt. Charles Kingsford-Smith, conqueror of two oceans, was rushed by train, motor and over telephoto wires. The monoplane flew over the silver tower of the Chrysler buiding as it neared Roosevelt field, where a wildly enthusiastic crowd awaited the intrepid flier's arrival. On the right Capt. Kingsford-Smith is saying "Hello" through the microphone with the other members of the crew on his left.

I just heard about this website called TransRural Lives which just went live! Go check it out! You can also find them on Instagram, Facebook, and Youtube.
"A digital storytelling project exploring and celebrating the lives of transgender older adults who live in or have strong ties to rural areas and small towns in the Pacific Northwest."
The stories are audio recordings from the trans elders themselves, and I find it incredible to listen to their stories and literally hear their voices. This is definitely worth checking out and maybe even getting connected and sharing your story. You will also find a variety of resources and archives on the website. Check it out!
If you want to get involved, they're taking volunteers, donations, help to spread the word, and stories from rural trans people. Here's some info from the website on who they are looking to hear stories from:
Who is eligible to participate in the project?
Transgender* adults 50 years of age and older who live in or have strong ties to rural areas and smaller cities/towns in Washington State (outside the Sea-Tac metro). In 2024, we will be expanding the project to include transgender older adults who live in Oregon, Idaho, western Montana, and British Columbia.
* We include and welcome anyone and any identity that falls outside the gender binary, including nonbinary, genderqueer, gender-diverse, gender non-conforming, and Two-Spirit folks.
--------
Edit to add: I am in no way associated or affiliated with this project. I simply came across it while surfin' the web and thought yall would be into it and wanted to share it with tumblr! If you have thoughts or feedback or want to get involved or just want to talk to the project, I encourage you to reach out to them. Check out the website! I have zero affiliation with it.

“Around the World With the Roving Southern Cross,” Brantford Expositor. June 30, 1930. Page 1. ----- The romantic career of the Australian monoplane Southern Cross, Capt. Charles Kingsford-Smith, her daring pilot, and her British crew, is depicted in this set of pictures. The map shows the plane’s voyags, the unbroken line representing the final link, now being completed, in what will eventually be a complete circling of the globe.
The pictures show:
1. - Capt. Kingsford-Smith (centre) being congratulated by Col. James Howard, of the U.S. air corps, on his arrival at Honolulu on his famous pacific flight.
2. - The crowd that formed around the Southern Cross on its arrival at Suva, in the Fiji Islands.
3. - Mr. and Mrs. Kingsford-Smith, the flyer’s parents, photographed as they watched his arrival at Sydney, Australia.
4. - An aerial view showing the Southern Cross in the desolate Canberra section of Australia, where it was forced down in a wilderness and was missing for days following the daring Pacific flight.
5. - Capt. Kingsford-Smith addressing the thousands who gathered to greet him on his arrival at Sydney.
6. - Capt. Kingsford-Smith (right) and C. T. Ulm, his co-pilot arriving in London after the flight from Australia.

ARE THEY TRANS: NEWT GEISZLER FROM PACIFIC RIM
Tumblr media
JUSTIFICATION: "Okay first off: tboy swag off the fucking charts. I’d be SHOCKED if nobody else has submitted him. Bro is like 5’6, wears platform combat boots and a leather jacket and 2013 hipster glasses, do I need to keep going. But in like more serious reasoning, first off his name is Newt, which I speak from experience in saying is just Not A Name people commonly have. He mentions in the movie that “only his mother calls him doctor,” and I’ve seen it suggested this is because she doesn’t want to actually refer to him by his chosen name. He’s also got 7 degrees and most are biology related in one way or another. He definitely did his own top surgery. He’s also got a really squeaky voice (thank you Charlie day)— t definitely did that to me, just saying." - @manicpixiexenobiologist

RALEIGH BECKET from PACIFIC RIM
Tumblr media
JUSTIFICATION:
"what is more transgender than controlling giant mechas? + i believe that they do not necessarily need saving in the first place but i think a little estrogen would do her good." - Anonymous
"I may be the only one who feels this way, but she's a woman. It started as an inside joke, because I was talking about PacRim but not really Raleigh, and someone heard the name and solidly thought the main character was a lesbian until I made them watch the movie. However I've expanded it so much. She's masculine, but it doesn't seem to fully suit her, and she's clearly more awkward around men. But the thing is, I don't even think it's true because it's there in canon. It's not super there in canon. However, her arc would be so much cooler with transfemininity. For example, PacRim is all about sharing minds with someone. Can you imagine the level of intimacy that takes when you're closeted? It explains why she refuses to drift with people who aren't Mako. Plus, it adds to the themes of war by showing how those who get conscripted to fight often rely on hypermasculinity. Plus, PacRim really plays with how drifitng removes control over your body, and it would be cool to watch her reclaim her body through transition. I just... she deserves it. She deserves to be a trans lesbian with her badass wife/life partner/telepathic connection." - @gender-snatched
