Hopped onto the free shuttle bus to Sembawang Shopping Centre for some grocery shopping and dinner. Checked with mum if she would like to have pasta today and proceeded to Saizeriya (サイゼリヤ) at the basement floor. It is an Italian casual dining restaurant from Japan with wallet friendly prices. They have a new seasonal menu with four new dishes so I chose one from there in addition to two pastas.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ordered the Black Pepper Chicken Spaghetti (S$5.90) for mum since that is the one she always had and she is not keen to try the other pastas. Hers came with black pepper sauce with grilled cubes of chicken.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I went for the Black Truffle & Mushroom Spaghetti (S$7.90) with truffle cream sauce and plenty of earthy mushrooms. For sharing, this Creamy Mala Chicken (S$7.50) with a grilled boneless chicken steak, potato wedges, corn kernels in a rich and spicy mala sauce. To be honest, there isn’t much of the white sauce and the mala paste is not as spicy as you think it is.

Creamy Mushroom and Sage Pasta (Vegan)
15 notes · View notes
I'm gonna try to reply to some asks tonight (not necessarily requests yet), but I had to make dinner first and I'mma brag about it because lookit lookit lookit
The garlic and the butter and olive oil and herbes de Provence and black garlic/truffle seasoning (the latter of which was only five bucks for a pretty big bottle despite sounding a great deal more expensive). Garlic sautéing is one of my favorite kitchen smells, and with the herbs and truffle UGH
Tumblr media
Strained the garlic-herb butter through a mesh strainer into a large skillet, then dropped the garlic/herbs with an imported Alfredo (from Lidl, two jars for four dollars) back into the saucepan, stirred in a little extra parmesan and black pepper.
Tumblr media
Then used the garlic butter and a little more olive oil to sear half a pound of shrimp (found on sale for four dollars) while boiling fettuccine ($1.88 for the whole box, which I used half of). Got the shrimp done, reserved a little pasta water to mix into the remaining garlic butter, tossed the pasta with it and added the doctored alfredo. Plated, topped with shrimp and a little of parsely.
Whole meal, with the exception of herbs and seasonings because I'm not doing the math for a few pinches of spices and a small handful of parmesan, came out to around 8-10 dollars and made three to four servings. Cooking on a budget isn't always easy, but it is doable, and it can still be restaurant quality.
Tumblr media
There was steamed asparagus (two dollars for a pound, used about half a pound) with a lemon pepper butter sauce too, but I forgot to take picture because I suck at this food blogging shit. But practice makes perfect, and I do still intend to do the One Piece themed food blog I mentioned months ago, so here we are.
Anyway, gonna go scroll through the asks you all so kindly left me while I was AWOL and answer a few before I stick myself in the dish pit and get my kitchen cleaned up.

AGSZ Pasta for Sephiroth
Sephiroth's been having a crappy week, so Angeal, Genesis and Zack took the day to spoil him with his favorite food: Pasta!
Pasta for breakfast, pasta for lunch and pasta for dinner!
Zack offered to make the breakfast pasta and so, Angeal decided that, he's a big boy already. He can very well just boil some pasta, maybe he could help him make something homemade, but it might take a while— He burnt it.
Tumblr media
Zack is absolutely distraught, the poor pupper was so happy and eager to help, Angeal WAS going to scold him about it, but he was still trying to figure it out HOW it happened in the first place. Nevermind, think of it later, lift up the pup's spirits and help him get back on his feet.
Zack DID wanted to make Seph some Cup Noodles, but both Angeal and Genesis forbid him from doing so. So a simple funny looking pasta with tomato sauce and a bit of cheese is good enough for a first time making pasta.
Tumblr media
It's simple, doesn't have that much taste, but Seph congratulates him as he can see he put a lot of effort on to it.
As for Genesis, he got in charge of lunch and he has a juicy for Seph.
It's just pasta with bechamel sauce and grated black truffle, why is Genesis laughing like that? Why, because the pasta he chose is this one:
Tumblr media
And no one noticed. Not even Sephiroth, the bechamel sauce was perfect and the truffle tasted good, he didn't even noticed the fucking shape... Hehe. Fucking.
As for Angeal, he's been born ready for cooking, making this beauty:
Tumblr media
He got the recipe from the internet and made it ten times better. Delicious, nutritious refreshing and just perfect.
To finish the day off, Zack told Seph he had a friend's help to steal Hojo's glass and change it into those glasses that make people look like they have crossed eyes.
Seph is happy.

7 TRADITIONAL CALABRIAN DISHES YOU HAVE TO TRY
The food down south is ‘peasant cooking’: simple and fresh ingredients, full of flavour. Calabria (the boot of Italy!) is one of the best places to eat in the country. Calabrian dishes make use of local spices, fish and seafood, meats and of course, 'nduja – the famous spreadable spicy salami is the shining star of Calabria.
You might not be able to travel there right now, but we wanted to highlight some of the best recipes from the region.
1. Lagana e ciciari
Tumblr media
This is a classic pasta dish in Calabria. It’s homemade wide pasta with chickpeas, garlic and oil.
2. Calabrian stuffed aubergines
Tumblr media
The vegetables are filled with a simple mixture of bread and cheese, before being smothered in passata and baked until tender.
3. Pasta e alici
Tumblr media
A quick traditional first course, where the pasta is seasoned with oil , garlic , anchovies and toasted breadcrumbs. The breadcrumbs give a delicious crunch to the silky smooth pasta.
4. Polpette alla mammolese
Tumblr media
This delicious meatball recipe sees pork mince mixed with goat’s cheese and cooked in a spicy tomato sauce.
5. Pasta with 'nduja
Tumblr media
'Nduja is a soft, spicy, spreadable salami. Nduja is typically eaten with short pasta such as maccheroni, penne, fusilli etc or spaghetti. In Calabria they usually eat it with fresh or dried fileja pasta.
6. Zeppole
Tumblr media
Zeppole calabresi are divine savoury fried donuts, filled with anchovies or sardines and creamy mozzarella. These are a local favourite!
7. Tartufo
Tumblr media
Tartufo was only invented in the 1950s, but has quickly become the dessert of choice across Calabria. It is a moulded ice cream dessert resembling a giant black truffle, with a cocoa coating concealing two layers of ice cream: a chocolate layer on the outside and hazelnut within. Delicious!
