oh yeah, i had another like...full-length series dream a few days back. i really liked it so i thought about it a long time so i wouldnt forget it all but it was really really long so naturally i dont remember the whole thing. literally, it couldve had a full season of episodes or something. watching All of Us Are Dead reminded me

lets see how much i remember

dream sequence under the cut

i honestly dont remember the very beginning and the dream was laid out very much like a tv show, with details about the start getting revealed way after the fact

but it took place in a large city. a city that grew upward.

one day, an infection started spreading. a zombie-like infection. people tried to escape, but very few could actually make it out of the boundary of the city. people died in droves. absolute carnage as far as the eye could see.

i managed to survive. picking my way through buildings, trying to avoid detection, i somehow made it through the first major wave. at this point, the government had managed to barricade all the entry and exit points to the city. escape was no longer possible.

there were no connections to the outside world. networks were down, though electricity remained in some places.

i came across other survivors and we stuck together, just trying to survive. over time, it nearly became routine. until the helicopter started coming.

thinking it was salvation, survivors rushed to flag the helicopter down, but the helicopter merely dropped some things and left again. the drops typically contained some supplies, some food, some medicine, occasionally a weapon, but sometimes they were completely empty.

once, when some survivors went to greet the helicopter, a hail of bullets greeted them. trust in the helicopter fell further.

my group found a convenience store that hadnt been pillaged or damaged yet and we made a base there. it was so bright inside and the temperature was cool and unchanging. there was a sense of normalcy as myself and another girl contemplated which pasta salad to eat.

one of our guys, a real techno whiz, got to work with the registers computer, trying to see if he could contact the outside world. there were some surveillance files on it. camera footage. he found footage dating back to the day it had all started. that day there had been a network outage. a woman and her daughter had been at the convenience store and when the network went down, the woman had rushed out and left her daughter there. telling her to wait for her to call and tell her it was safe to come home. the girl, already a bit roughed up, paced by the convenience stores phone for hours. the staff tried to fix the phone, but all they could do was wait. the girl rushed out of the store when the screaming started.

there was other camera footage as well. security cameras within the store, around the perimeter, and, with some work, we were able to access other cameras along the same network beyond the store.

thats when we found something unexpected.

some of these cameras were in very interesting locations or pointed to very interesting things. like packs of zombies or groups of other survivors. and there was an external connection we could not access.

that was the first night the helicopter came to attack. they opened fire on anything that moved, zombie or otherwise. children, adults, animals, no one was spared. the helicopter began shooting into buildings as well. windows became the enemy.

we started finding camera that looked as though they had been set up recently. or set up hastily on tripods in various places.

fires started taking down buildings where survivors had made their bases, forcing them to run, often times directly into the waiting zombies jaws. or into the waiting helicopters bullets.

pieces started clicking together. the cameras, the lack of outside contact, the helicopter that sometimes helped and sometimes hurt, the herding into deaths jaws. we were being watched and, more importantly, someone was enjoying the show.

upon this revelation, our dwindling group of survivors decided to try and work our way towards the forest on the outskirts of the city.

as we made our way there, a lone helicopter seemed determined to stop us at all costs. luckily for us, a newer member of our group was ex-military and knew more in detail about this helicopter. most importantly, that this was not the average military helicopter, but a special ops one, equipped with heat-seeking missiles. we needed to disable the cameras at all costs. they could track our movements and predict our actions easily.

one large building became a battleground between the helicopter and one of our members. she was somehow faster than the missiles, but the building went down with her in it anyway. our ex-military guy left us, following a hunch, and told us to keep going and he’d rejoin us. he had figured out where the helicopter was landing and got inside.

there was a broadcast station inside, showing all the remaining survivors, showing the hordes of zombies roaming every inch of the city, showing the high fence that had been constructed just outside the city limits, and showing the hundreds of watch towers and armed personnel standing guard around the fence. names and figures scrolled across some screens, blinking out of existence each time another survivor died.

he made his way to the top floor and found the one office in use. someone was on the phone, talking about how it was almost over. the next day, the armed personnel stationed outside the city would storm in and clear the place with force. there would be no survivors.

he recognized this persons voice. it was a general he had once served under in the military. but there was no recognition is his eyes as our guy put two bullets through his brain.

he returned to us to tell us the news. we went back to the building to check for ourselves, but we knew he was right. in the end, our group had 6 survivors in the end, and as we worked our way back through the city, we picked up another 12 people. we told everyone we came across about our grim fate. soldiers would be bursting through the gates and killing everyone. we decided to take our last moments into our own hands.

we made our way back to the forest where we had hoped to stage an escape from. in this forest, there was a river. this river ran deep and strong and eventually dropped over a cliff and into some underground caves. the drop from the cliff was so far, you could only see a sliver of the water at the bottom. after everything we all had been through, everyone was glad to be able to make this last choice. how would you like to die? by rain of bullets or by quietly slipping into the water? we formed roughly two lines so no one would be alone at the end and, two by two, made the jump from the cliff

i watched six people before me before i worked up the nerve to stand at the edge. my partner and i smiled to the other survivors before jumping.

as i fell, i thought, the air is nice and cool here. it’s so much fresher than the air in the city was. i kept my eyes open and watched the water come to meet me. i braced myself for impact, dying like this would hurt, but only for a moment. instead, i felt myself become warm and the world went white. there was no pain, just that feeling of being held. i wondered how long it would take before it was over. had i hit the water and died already? but i was still thinking about how long it was taking, so maybe i had survived and now i was waiting to run out of air. it was quiet and warm and bright and i didnt feel the need to breathe, but i started to get very comfortable and sleepy.

i thought to myself, if i fall asleep, the nightmare is definitely over. and it was so warm and comfortable, like napping in a sunbeam. i could feel my body slipping into sleep, the feeling so slow it almost felt like falling all over again. ah, this is it, i thought, im dying. just another moment and it would be over.

WAIT, i thought. i didnt really want to die. through the bleary sleepiness, i mentally pushed my eyes back open. this is not my end, i thought loudly.

back in the city, the soldiers hunted down every last survivor and executed them. the zombies were left alone. soon there would be nothing left for the zombies to feed on and they would no longer be a threat. there would be incredible research done on these zombies, so much so that the sacrifice of the hundreds of thousands of people in city, while never directly addressed, was appreciated by those who remained. the footage of the survivors struggles was never released to the public and remained in the pockets of the investors who had taken advantage of the situation, though on occasion, a clip would turn up on some shock site. the city never saw human habitation again.

It's not much, and it's still a work in progress and is unedited; but I really wanted to share my favorite part of the small thing I'm writing for @crimsonixx 💕

It was peaceful, nothing but the radio, the rumble of the bike beneath them, and the cool city air blowing through their hair. City lights flashed past them, showing an advertisement they'd seen for the 100th time that day. Jess leaned forward in the seat as she squeezed the bike past the cars, fitting perfectly between them. She gave no mind to the colors of the traffic lights, needing to get out of town. Her brown optics flashed a blue, messing with the station. A list of songs popped up in her vision, she selected one and it played over the station.

"I didn't know you could do that?" Johnny smiled slightly, she blinked the list away, shifting more forward in her seat.

"Yeah, I modded it in my free time. And believe me, I've had plenty of time." She wiggled the fingers of her implant.

The song had a vintage 80s feeling to it, which was almost nostalgic for him. For a sweet, single moment, it wasn't 2077 and he was back in 2023. He took a deep breath of the night air, slowly removing his hand from her waist. Just the shifting sent a shiver up Jesse's spine, no longer having his warm hand on her. He placed his metal hand on the back of the seat, scooting back a bit. He leaned back, pullimg his hand away from the seat, raising both arms out, and he closed his eyes. A small smile tugged at the corner of his lips, for a moment everything melted away into a neon-colored bliss. The wind whipped through his hair, and over his face. He exhaled slowly, his face softening into euphoric relaxation.

"FUCK-!" Johnny was snapped back to reality as Jess lost control due to the sudden shifted weight distribution.

"Whoops" He laughed, placing his hand back on Jess, sitting normally again. She gave him a side glance after regaining control. He sighed, laying his head on her back, both of his arms were hugging her waist, his eyes closed in a nostalgic daze.

She could feel his hot breath glide against the back of his neck, the body heat of his chest against her back, the warmth of his organic hand around her waist, contrasted with the ice-cold metal of his silver one. She caught periodic whiffs of his cologne, smiling to herself. This was nice, nothing but the music, driving, and him. In a way, it was oddly peaceful, even if this hellish city was more of a prison than paradise. In reality, she wouldn't want to be anywhere else. Out of everyone she got stuck with, Johnny wasn't all as nightmarish as they made him out to be.

You know. It's incredibly pretentious to make your self insert OC the one who has the biggest positive impact on Mewtwo, not even Ash comes close to it despite turning his world upside down. Especially that your self insert hasn't really shown any single negative trait so far and that you added a tons of emotional problems to Mewtwo that weren't present in the anime or the movies (like his fear of partnership, suicidal thoughts etc...) turning him into an entirely different character so that your self insert will be the one who helps Mewtwo to overcome them. So yes, Lakota is the very definition of a Mary Sue.

I LOVE how some people still think Lakota is a self insert, I laugh my good sir or ma'am, I laugh XD Think what ya want, I guess. If anything, she is the type of person I WISH I was lol. She is entirely her own character. Believe me, if she was truly a self insert of me and what I'm really like, she wouldn't be very likable.

Also, the definition of a Mary Sue, and I quote is "a type of female character who is depicted as unrealistically lacking in flaws or weaknesses." Which for Lakota is false. She has her flaws and weaknesses. One of her major flaws we continue to see is that she tries to be everyone's rock and anchor, and hardly focuses on her own feelings, which may come back and bite her eventually. Just because I don't visually draw out a scenario for every problem she has for you all to see, doesn't mean she doesn't have her own issues :V

Also there's nothing wrong with a character who has a lot of empathy and cares about her family, and is willing to help them if they need it. I guess some people such as yourself have never received such kindness before though.

And as far as Mewtwo's emotional issues, that's just a little thing called 🌈character development/building🌈 sweetie. I touch on topics that most cartoons are hesitant to. And of course he's not gonna have the same personality as he did in the films, do you know how boring that would be? Like yeah, we get it, a cold and emotionally constipated psychic cat who broods and contemplates his purpose and existence all the time....There's only so much you can do with that, I chose to extend his character a little. I try to make Mewtwo feel a little more relatable and real with the emotions I make him experience, realistically based on everything he went through both in the first movie and in Detective Pikachu, trust issues and ptsd/trauma are very understandable and real emotions I think people would experience if they endured what Mewtwo had to go through. But I guess according to you, that's a big no no, well uhhh...ya know? Too bad. :V

I write my story and characters how I want to. I don't need your or anyone's validation or approval. How about YOU make your own version of Mewtwo and YOU come up with a personality that suits him to YOUR liking, rather than wasting your and my time, sending a paragraph long ask, bitching about mine, kay? 😘

Astronaut: my favourite and the most unrealistic one i must say~~ but like, cmon it DOES make a lot of sense!! at least as the classic job a kid could want and be made of fun in a of course you would 🙄 way, because of the clone of christopher columbus born in the late 2000s could want to colonize space lolol and even now he could be like Well im NOT doing what the original did! And yeah we sure hope you dont ;V but anyways still a thought i hold very dearly that he holds that dream very dearly... and ive been annoying enough about cozmic travel so here's another diggy mo' song :)

Critic: a critic of what? of everything of course! there is no show, movie, song, food, park, mode of transportation, linguistic expression, local myth, piece of furniture, cloud formation or thing that hasnt fall to his judgement for the enjoyment of internet strangers on youtube who find his opinions and ways of expressing them very entertaining. Also voice :)))) He has a very nice voice, that's just a fact, people know this (he SO receives comments about it x3) and it shouldnt go to waste, thus, a jig where he speaks a lot is perfect, not to mention his expressions and theatrics that could make him very fun to watch.

Theatre Actor: the most plausible and my belothed ♥. As much I want to deny it, it is unfortunally true that this boy was made for the stage, and craves the possitive attention that comes with it. He was SO HAPPY when Scudworth gave him a role omgggg HE WANTS TO BE A THEATRE ACTOR, HE WANTS TO PERFORM FOR AN AUDIENCE, HE WANTS TO SING AND BY GOD HE WILL FUCKING SING!!!!!!! as much as i hate that i CANNOT deny him such happiness 🥺😭 whatever makes my specialest boy ever happy, he'll have it🥰~~

9. When they’re sick what do they do to feel better?

Honestly, Vince doesn't have the best coping strategies to being sick. Working for Arasaka and his own restlessness and ambitions kind of ruined him a bit here, and he'll just pump himself full with painkillers and whatnot and push through somehow. As you said and as I mentioned, he doesn't like hospitals and doctors much (he has made a handful of good experiences, but the bad ones outweigh them by far sadly). So, unless he's actively dying from a gunshot wound or incapable to make decisions for himself for whatever reason you're not gonna see him go to a doctor out of his own free will xD

When he's really sick but not dying, but to a degree so he just cannot get out of the house or the bed even, like sometimes when the Relic is messing him up real bad, he'll follow the same basic strategy of knocking himself out with painkillers or other meds that help with whatever is bugging him and trying to sleep it off.

He wouldn't admit it without being sarcastic (at least initially), but the first time he was really sick after getting together with Kerry, and Kerry was all worried and doting and taking care of him... he really loved that and it made him fall for him even more xD

28. Are they a #gamer?

He is! XD But a very casual one. I'm 100% basing this off of Corpo!V having a retro gaming magazine in their office desk drawer, but it works for him. When he gets home late after an exhausting day of gigs and seeing all kinds of horrors, he likes to play games to wind down. I think he probably has a handful of retro consoles, too, that he keeps in good shape, and his favourite type of games are strategy-games that require lots of planning ahead and thinking, and on the other end of the spectrum he loves racing games (and he loves complaining about how some of them are very unrealistic).

49. Do they have trouble keeping their enemies and their friends straight?

He kinda does struggle with that actually, yes! As mentioned before, he has some trust issues, particularly when he doesn't know someone that well yet or cannot read their intentions well because they're a little unpredictable. Johnny and Goro are prime examples here I think, for different reasons.

After their first interaction the night after Misty brought him home, Johnny was marked as "enemy" in Vince's book, even though he knew in the long run they would need to work together if they wanted to make it out of the whole mess alive. But Johnny being the unpredictable mess of a person struggling to open up and be honest, he kinda played himself here for a long time. They ended up becoming friends in the end, but from Vince's side it was never as genuine a friendship as Johnny would have wanted (or deserved). With Goro it was kind of the other way around. Deeply connected to Arasaka, loyal to a fault, highly unpredictable as well even though he gave off professional vibes at first. He should have been the last person Vince should get himself involved with, and yet he couldn't help himself but relate to Goro on a multitude of levels and wanted to be a friend to him (surely also with the ulterior motive of getting rid of the Relic at first, but as he got to know him better that moved to the background a bit).

I mentioned this in a previous post, the one thing Vince really would like to change about himself or get rid of is his trust issues. He has them even towards people he genuinely likes and cares about, considers friends. The doubts will creep into his mind and a minor thing could happen or be said by someone that would make Vince question whether or not they're really a true friend or also just using him like a lot of other people did in his past. The other way around, he has a tendency to fall for the wrong people, be lured in by great promises and whatnot, only to deeply regret everything in hindsight.I guess it's an issue not only of being unable to trust others, but also his own intuition sometimes, and so yeh... he definitely struggles with recognizing who really is on his side and who isn't.

50. What is your favorite thing about them?

Here I shared what I love about him as a character/ personality-wise, this time around I'm gonna talk more on a meta level!

Vince is kind of... very very different from the OCs I usually make when playing RPGs. Most of my characters are usually good just out of the bottom of their hearts, some more on the lawful spectrum, some more chaotic, but kind of the type of person most people would aspire to be.

Now, not to say Vince isn't in many ways also someone I aspire to be, I think that's normal with making protagonist-type OCs xD There's gotta be something in yourself about them that you genuinely like enough to spend playing them 50+ hours. I was *this close* to making him a nomad when I first booted up the game, but in hindsight I probably would have just remade my Dragon Age Inquisitor in a dark future setting, and I'm so so glad that I went for the corpo lifepath instead on a whim and made a little fucked up bastard with a shit-ton of issues but also a soft heart under his slick shell.

Vince is unapologetic, sarcastic, flamboyant, self-serving and a little self-centered, but he's authentic (around the people that he deems worthy of knowing his authentic self), confident in his skills and himself. He's manipulative and sometimes messes with people in mean ways just because it's funny, he's a chronic liar, he has mommy and daddy issues, he has a temper, but he cares deeply, he's passionate, ambitious, and he'd run himself into the ground for his friends. He acts on what he thinks would be the best outcome for himself and his loved ones, not for the greater good or a higher purpose, he's morally grey and has done and will continue to do shady stuff because he sees no problem with it. A job's a job, and he's fucking good at his. Go ahead, try and stop him and see how that'll end for you.

He's just a very multi-faceted, multi-layered character that I sometimes struggle a bit to understand myself - or at least struggle with describing occasionally XD He's also the first trans OC I ever made in a game (simply because the CC actually would let me, and yes, I still can't quite believe that and love it so much), and that also majorly contributed to catapulting him to the top of the list of my most beloved OCs ever xD

Oh! It's another space thing! corporate espoinage! Have we met him before?

It's like that time some author got investigated by the military. He saw the public floor plan for a boat but the rest of the floor plan was confidential. He then thought about it for a while & figured out the most efficient floorplan for a boat like that. The military said "how did you know our floor plan?" & he said "this is the best way to build a boat, of course you would make it like this". These things have the same end goal & so since they are both going for the best path to achieve that goal, they end up with the same (or similar) technology.

That feels like it should not be the best way to decide who goes on your mission... But he was the first choice before he got emotional! But he did get emotional... SOMEONE was stupid enough to leave the murder weapon

If it is that fast to take effect & it is that deadly, then it really should not be classified as "it won't kill you" babes. I was under the assumption that it would be painful & nauseating & annoying (even if you only come into contact with it once) but it wouldn't kill you, even if you're in the atmosphere for hours, for days even. I've been thinking about this, and yes. I had to soften Jonny a bit because the first version I had of him in my head was quite unlikable. I think there's a fine line between 'prickly' and 'humungous asshole', know what I mean? I like to think that most of the time he is the former.

Jonny is an amalgamation of guys I've befriended, characters and musicians I like... the thing is I find mean streaks amusing and I have a morbid sense of humor and Jonny V.1.0 was a little bit macabre. I wanted him to be more than the weird guy that is into morbid stuff, so I added good traits (he's loyal to his friends, he's actually pretty sweet when he wants to, he relates to/finds outcasts interesting, he's a realist but he likes discussing unrealistic ideas)

I had to change Horizon too because they were going to be The Crazy Cult Leader(TM) and nothing else and I thought that was pretty boring. Then I thought about how cults look in the real world, and most of them are pretty new agey to be honest. I admit I'm also poking fun at myself here because I like new agey stuff (meditation, hippie fashion, using hallucinogenics to sharpen one's perception, Terence McKenna, whatever the hell Tool is about) so that was a blast to write. Also Horizon ended up being a very empathetic, very clever and nuanced character that knows they are selling bullshit and feels a bit conflicted about it, but not enough to stop. And that's a lot more interesting than the walking cliche they started off as.

When I started writing TP I decided that I wasn't going to spend a lot of time on the romances. I wanted to have ROs, but I would have maybe 2 or 3 scenes with them, then The Fade to Black Scene, and nothing else. The thing is, down the road I realized I actually liked the bonding parts a lot and that writing banter and flirting and the drama was so much fun. Unfortunately, 3 out of 4 characters I had chosen as romantic interests weren't as involved in the plot as a story with a bit more romance requires. Of course, the other shoe dropped when I was like 8 chapters in, making rewriting the game a pain in the ass.

My saving grace is I like writing dramatic dialogue and there's lots of that with the 4 ROs, but yeah, I'm handling it all differently on my next projects.

What I learned is to think about ROs first as ROs and second as characters: how are they linked to the story? How can they help MC and/or the plot move forward? What makes them unforgettable? What swoon-worthy?

If a game has ROs then give them time to shine; their first and more important job is making the player fall in love. Why did you choose this character instead of that one to be a RO? They have to earn that in my opinion. There's something about this character in particular that should make them an obvious choice to be THE love interest.

Anyway, I got carried away xD I'll do better next time.

THIS BLOG IS ALIVE! LET US CELEBRATE WITH ART AND NEWS

Heyyyyyyyy errbody! Haha so yes, it's been almost a year, but now things are finally back on track and on the move again. And I'm not just saying that this time - in fact, I have proof! Proof that is, in and of itself, CRAZY BONKERS COOL. Without further ado, I give thee cover mock-ups for the Blood Chains novelization (also featuring the revised arc titles):

See? Crazy bonkers cool, right? Makes me feel like I'm already holding the books in my hands. ;v; Gosh, I've been desperate to show you these ever since the artwork was finished, but I wanted to finish proofreading/editing the fic first. (You know, for printing purposes. I love saying that out loud.)

The absolutely stunning artwork for Arcs I & II is done by none other than the wonderful @charseraph (I helped sketching a part of the chains in the cover for Arc II 😄), and the art for Arc III was 100% done by none other than me, Fooey! (Why yes, I'm proud as hell, actually 👑) The art is final, but the cover designs and fonts are subject to change - these were just quick experimental mockups I made with the first app trial I found for the purpose, so there are definitely not going to be watermarks on the final covers, haha. XD

So what's gonna happen now is starting from tomorrow, I'll put my focus on putting this blog together. I aim to have all the practicalities for the novelization project figured out by the end of May (though I have to say there are a LOT of variables in Foo's life at the moment that could potentially get in the way, but it's good to have goals, right? And it's not necessarily an unrealistic one), and hopefully the actual books will be out soon after that. Once that's done, I can finally get started on the extra chapters! Wohoo! I also really really really want to start making chapter art for the main story. Doing the third cover artwork all by myself gave me a hell of a boost in mojo and confidence, but I still have a long way to go. I'm excited and pumped regardless! For all the things! And I hope you are too. 😁

Oh, also! The chapters posted on Ao3 (the Tumblr versions are still a work in progress, but should be all done by tomorrow night) are all proofread and edited now, but getting a second opinion/double-check would be immensely helpful. So if any of you is feeling up for a reread or just happen to spot something wonky while skimming through a chapter any one of these days, please let me know! I'm a little bit nervous about the whole "can't edit the text after it's printed" thing, haha. 😅

Why I Ship Johnny/Female V: Part 2

[Part 1] [Part 2]

This is Part 2 of my essay series on why I ship Johnny and female V. Back in part 1, I covered why I ship female V specifically with Johnny and not male V, as well as some thoughts on Johnny’s sexuality. This time, I’m looking at Johnny himself. (Content warning: there is some discussion of rape and how rape is handled in fiction.)

Johnny, ambiguity and age-old romantic tropes

Look, I’m just going to come out and say this: part of my interest in this ship is thirsting over Johnny. And when I’m interested in something, whether it’s an intellectual, creative or sexual interest, I like to do what I always do – analyse it to death. So what is it about the actor, the performance and the character that makes Johnny as attractive as he is?

Keanu Reeves himself, obviously, can’t be ignored here. He has a gorgeous face and voice, but crucially, he’s distinctively beautiful. Obviously, everyone has the right to be into what they’re into, and I don’t want to shame anyone for their tastes. But I do not understand people who are into the blandly beautiful. Sure, there’s nothing wrong about, let’s say, Chris Evans. But what’s right about him? Where are the snags that catch your attention and hold it? Where’s the life?

Reeves, meanwhile, is attractive because he’s unusual. He has long, dark hair, but he’s regularly photographed at public events with it mussed-up. He has a chiselled face, but his cheekbones are high enough that he looks alien. He has all the charisma of any Hollywood actor, but, whether this is him as he is or an especially well-calculated image choice, it comes off as genuine. When watching interviews with him, you feel less in the presence of a star and more an especially fascinating stranger at a party, one who, despite bursting with witticisms and stories, somehow wants to talk to you most of all.  

There’s also an element of age ambiguity here. Reeves is in his fifties, and while age suits his looks better than youth did, it shows. Meanwhile, Johnny the character is in his thirties when he dies, and to match this, the animators smooth out Reeves’ face and darken his beard. They also give Johnny the (unrealistic but glorious) organic arms of a dedicated bodybuilder. So what Johnny ends up with is the presence, confidence and charisma of an older guy, combined with the physicality of someone younger. It’s potent, to say the least. It also adds to Johnny’s uncanniness as a character. He’s caught between maturity and youth, life and death, humanity and machine; he’s hard to pinpoint no matter where you look. And whether you express this academia-style, as, ‘the gothic associates uncanniness with sexuality’, or internet-style,  as, ‘I’m a monster/robotfucker’, this is, as the kids say, pretty damn hot.

This uncanniness, as well as Reeves’ looks and performance, also offset some of the more unlikeable aspects of Johnny’s personality. This is best illustrated by the concept art created for Johnny before Reeves was brought on board. (Found courtesy of the lovely folks at r/LowSodiumCyberpunk.)

As you can see, they had a lot of Johnny’s look already nailed down. But this makes the differences all the more startling. This Johnny looks like he’s been dragged through the wringer. His hair is messier, and he seems to be getting premature wrinkles and balding. He’s strung-out, with a genuinely hopeless cast to his face. His look is also a lot more dated. While our Johnny has elements of the old rocker, the jean jacket, bandana, V-necked black jumper and aviators clipped to the tank top root this Johnny inescapably in 1980s music and fashion.

Why is all this relevant to shipping Johnny with V? Partially because I’m shallow, I’m not going to lie. But it’s also because making Johnny look like this would have made him much more obviously an intrusion. A guy dressed like this next to 2077’s booty shorts and space buns is like a ghost in a ballgown next to a woman in jeans. He’s not just out of time; he’s been irrevocably left behind. Johnny’s face here also has much less in the way of possibility. Where our Johnny says, ‘maybe your life would be better if you listened to me’, this Johnny screams, ‘my way is hopeless, but you can’t ignore it’. It’s leaning much more into the tragic aspects of Johnny’s character and of the genre of cyberpunk. And don’t get me wrong – I love that artwork, and think that angle would be an interesting artistic choice.

But making Johnny a tragic intrusion like this removes the element of seduction, so to speak, from his character. What makes Johnny attractive, ideologically, sexually and romantically, is a balance of certainty and uncertainty. On the surface, he’s passionately, blazingly certain of his politics, his music and himself. If you’re taking a leap of faith, whether that’s fighting against the corpos that rule your life or hopping into bed with an engram, what draws you to it is the kind of confidence that makes you doubt your own certainties. Yet too much of that can be off-putting. Nobody wants a partner who’s so cocksure (pardon the pun) that they don’t listen to what you want, and nobody wants a political ally who’s gone so far into their own rhetoric that they can’t convince those outside it.

Therefore, the common factor across all the ways Reeves’ looks impact our perception of Johnny is the balancing of two seemingly opposing things. Keep that in mind, because it only gets more relevant the deeper into this ship, and Johnny’s attractiveness, we go.

Of course, Reeves’ looks are far from the only thing he brings to the table. His acting, across body language, facial expressions and voice acting, is incredible. I want to take a look at his voice acting, as well as his voice generally, first.

I’m not familiar enough with the subtleties of American accents to pinpoint why, but Reeves’ accent sounds slightly different to the more generic accents of other famous actors. Perhaps it’s because he’s Canadian. Either way, his consonants are less harsh on the ear than other A-list actors, his vowels less elongated. He speaks slowly, sounding as if he just woke up. His voice is mellow and soothing; it’s the sort of sound you could take a bath in.

(For reference purposes, I’m listening to this Cyberpunk trailer as I write this, as well as, um, this video that I’ve watched far too many times. XD)

Obviously, to play Johnny he has to modify that laid-back aspect of his voice. But it’s interesting how his natural voice and his ‘Johnny’ voice bounce off each other. Reeves is able to pull off a much more belligerent Johnny than many actors could, precisely because of that laid-back quality his natural voice has. Think of that ‘impressive cock’ line. It’s made as funny as it is because of the total lack of shame in how Reeves delivers it. But in the mouth of an actor like, let’s say, Robert Downey Jr, that level of shamelessness would just come off as annoying. Reeves uses his natural voice to amp up Johnny’s, for lack of a better word, Chad-ness, far beyond the place another actor could manage. Because he has that base of softness, he can go hard on Johnny’s arrogance.

Why is this relevant to Johnny’s attractiveness as a character, as well as why Johnny/F!V are a fascinating ship? To develop a character well, you have to have an extremely solid base to start on – and that base is where a lot of writing and acting falls down. The audience has to know intimately what a character is usually like, or who they seem to be, before burrowing into the character further is made effective. That equal hard/soft approach means that when Johnny does soften later in the game, it seems both unexpected and inevitable. Even as the harsh tone and words were conveying one thing, that softness underneath was always conveying another. But the fact that Reeves can go hard on the arrogance makes that change much more impactful than it would be in another character. Once again, we’re seeing an equal balance of two seemingly opposing qualities, not openly leaning towards one or the other.

There’s also some aspects of the body language Reeves and the animators give to Johnny I’d like to focus in on. While I’m not an actor, nor am I a psychologist, and therefore am likely to have missed things, there were a few things I noticed when going through footage of Johnny in pivotal scenes. (If you spot something I haven’t talked about, please reply or reblog! I’d love to get a back-and-forth discussion going.)

Over and over again, Johnny’s body language has two layers. There’s what I’m calling the ‘douchebag’ layer, which is where Johnny seems insultingly relaxed. The scene when V and Johnny first meet, as well as the scene at the diner, have two great examples of this. Johnny gets into V’s space, but it’s slow, catlike. There’s no urgency when he leans in, nor when he stands over V.

Similarly, at the diner, he tells V he doesn’t want to kill her anymore – something pivotally important for their relationship and the plot - while putting his arms behind his head and his feet up on the table. It communicates, at least on the surface, a real sense of disrespect. ‘I don’t give a shit’, says his posture, ‘whether you hate and fear me or not’. His threatening slowness when they first meet, meanwhile, communicates that he doesn’t think V is a competent opponent. Why should he hurry if he can get her any time?

At least, that’s what it looks like. Take a look from 9:40 onwards here. Sure, he swings his legs up on the table – but not before hurrying into the diner booth and tapping his fingers rapidly on the table. Even when he gets into that relaxed posture, he’s bouncing his leg the entire time. Those catlike movements I talked about when they first meet? If you look from 5:42 here, they’re there. But they’re also interspersed with banging his head incessantly against the wall, pacing back and forth and glitching unpredictably all around the room.

This is where the second layer of Johnny’s body language comes in. Underneath all that casual condescension, he communicates constant, frenetic energy, even anxiety. Even in his default, idle animations, it’s extremely rarely that Johnny communicates real coolness and calm. He covers constantly racing thoughts and feelings with a slick persona.

What this does is very like the hard/soft balance of the voice acting I talked about earlier. Because the ‘douchebag’ layer of body language is the most obvious one, you pick up on that first. But the other layer is there throughout Johnny’s entire arc, and it goes into your brain on a much more subconscious level. Then, when Johnny’s guard does come down, it seems like a natural development of his character while still being a surprise. Once again, there’s that knife-edge balance between two disparate qualities. And for me, attraction always lies in the space between.

There’s also something highly sexual about the way he gets into V’s space when they first meet, the way he stands over her. When first playing the scene where they first meet, it felt like watching the moments before an act of rape. You see him first as he leans over you while you’re still in bed. He beats you to the ground, smashes your head into the window, and towers over you while you’re collapsed on the floor. Given the context of him taking over your body, the overtones are unmistakeable.

But again, crucially, that frantic body language and his lines are the complete opposite of how someone behaves when making the kind of power play that rape is. The pacing, the panicked words and the fact that he’s caught off guard all communicate disempowerment. While it’s still a violent, frightening scene, it’s not a monstrous one.

Why is that relevant to discussing Johnny’s attractiveness, and Johnny/V? Because rape fantasies and male domination are some of the oldest tropes in the book for M/F romantic arcs. Done properly, they play on desires of sexual submission without explicitly acknowledging the kink, depict the eroticism of that liminal space between humanity and monstrosity I talked about earlier and allow you to fantasise about being deeply wanted. Of course, that last bit isn’t a factual depiction of rape in real life. But in the fantasy, the story, the idea of being ravished is partially about being special, being so uniquely attractive that the guy loses all control of himself. If you have a more conservative or repressed view of your sexuality, the ravishment/rape fantasy also allows you to fantasise about sex without seeing yourself as a slut. (This post is a great look at that last idea as applied to the movie Labyrinth, if you want to find out more.)

The idea of sexualised monstrosity is also everywhere in the tropes used to characterise Johnny. He’s a troubled rockstar, an angst-ridden artist who died tragically young, a violent political rebel, part human and part supernatural creature, a charismatic, cocky, seemingly heartless guy, who just might have a heart if you look deep enough. What all these tropes have in common is the promise of both reassuring humanity and fascinating, exciting monstrosity.

Reeves’ and Johnny’s looks combine strangeness and humanity. Reeves’ voice acting moves between soaring arrogance and languid softness. Johnny’s body language combines fear and overconfidence. And the use of age-old romantic tropes in an unexpected context, as well as the use of these specific romantic tropes, knit all the effects of the other things together to create that balance between the human and the strange. He’s unusual enough to be interesting, human enough to seem real and associated with all our cultural symbolism of an attractive man. With all that going on, how could you not find him hot as hell?

But the thing about these tropes is, they’re also so common they’re clichéd. Not just in fandom, but all across Western media and art. So what lifts Johnny and Johnny/V out of being something generic? What makes them so fascinating that I’ve written thousands of words about them? What, in short, makes them different?

i do know that when my fam started watching lcdp at first i was so put off. like i watched ep 1 and the prof creeped me out. ""berlin"" creeped me out. e v e r y o n e creeped me out. and i was cringing so hard becz of the short lived romance angle with alison parker. i literally did not watch s1 at all xcept for like sneak peeks. highlights being the scene where berlin discovers monica is alive and does his dramatic door by door thing? that was so SUSPENSEFUL even tho i had no idea what was going on. DOMINGO DE RESURECCION remains forever iconic.

Firstly, I believe Andres/Sergio would be the biggest LCDP ship if the writers were evil enough to wait until s5 to reveal that they’re brothers asdfasdf. They’re already the two most popular male characters anyway. 

It’d be especially crazy because it’s not like they tell the actors these things beforehand either. So that means there’d probably be a Serdres vs Berlermo vs Serquel fight every 5 minutes. I mean, even if not everyone agrees on everything in the lcdp fandom, it’s the most “peaceful” one I’ve ever been in because no character really gets in the way of any other ship (like even with helermo and berlermo there’s no true conflict since Andres is dead). But with Serdres in the mix?? CATASTROPHE. Everyone out here writing essays about how much of a bastard/bitch/homewrecker/motherfucker that Andres or Sergio or Martin or Raquel is. Never a moment’s peace!! so basically, a regular fandom lmao.

Then when we find out they’re brothers, it goes from catastrophe to Apocalypse. Suddenly serquel and berlermo have the upper hand. Everyone would double down and harass the crew/cast into whatever’s going on.  Plot-wise, everything is the same though, just without Andres calling Sergio “hermanito.” Fandom however, would be a minefield! And I’m glad that’s not the case because I’d probably be an unfortunate serdres shippers XD No joke, my mother and I thought they were a couple in S1. So bullet dodged!

Secondly: haha, everyone creeped me out in S1 too, especially Berlin, I hated him, but thinking back, I think I mostly hated the fact that I didn’t hate him as much as I should have. I’ve made peace with it now but oh boy, was he a controversial figure in my head. I actually like the professor on sight though! IDK why, maybe because I thought his plans were cool or because of Alvaro’s delivery. I was afraid of an Alison Parker romance thing too- like, I do feel like she had a storyline that got dropped, but that part was quite cringey and overall unnecessary to the plot. Same with Ariadna, which was even cringier and even Less necessary to the plot. 

Domingo de resurrecion was iconic though yes! And even with all that said, I genuinely enjoyed parts 1 and 2 because it was so different from anything else I’d seen. Not content wise, but maybe tonally? IDK, they were just really bold with a lot of things, like being objectively unafraid of having the protagonists (plural because all of them did LMAO) do objectively shitty things. Really kept me in suspense from beginning to end! 

I’m usually a big fan of found families too! The funny thing is, then banda never struck me as a “family” until season 3. In 1 and 2, I was wondering what felt different about this show; then it hit me that these people remained colleagues to the end. Like, they backstabbed each other (repeatedly) and everyone was quite selfish, and only the bonds that were already there stuck. They were the opposite of a found family LOL But I think by S3, they went down the found family route and I didn’t mind because it makes quite a lot of sense for them to feel that bond after the Mint heist and almost dying/living together (and having witnessed 3 deaths together on the team). But I still doubt Berlin and Palermo were ever really part of this found family, with good reason XD

LOL the scene where Tokyo got kicked out is also among my favorites!! It was so funny and dramatic, and it was like, wow we can go anywhere with this now! Don’t worry- your rambles and thoughts are always welcome :D

I’m rolling over how you watched the Tokyo expulsion scene before the Russian Roulette scene haha. Also yes, PEDRO. Berlin may have been “controversial” to me at first, but I became Pedro’s fan from day one! Also the Hug is probably what made me like Berlin (despite my determination to hate him rip) in the first place. 

3/? ... and like now that i think about it... tokyo had real guts huh. like she KNEW berlin was close enough to el prof to know his name (fhshshs imagine if she'd heard andrés saying 'hermanito' it's unrealistic that she didn't TBH. i mean obviously they decided to make them brothers only towards the end but like in canon universe. how tf did andrés de 'i raised my bby brother since he was 12 and i'd actually die for him and his stupidly brilliant plans' fonollosa go 5 months without slipping up once and calling sergio hermanito. or like,,, i like to imagine sergio kinda gave him lots of leeway(?) sergio's a lil oblivious too but like i'm sure half of it is.. that's my dumbass older bro shut up i'm not being partial you all have city names .. andr-berlin, pass the salt. like OOF. + sergio also knew his big bro was dYiNG so like. i'm sure they were sneaking in some quality time (i hope they did 😭 gosh imagine if sergio really did not ever consider the possibility of andrés dying in the heist so he'd tell himself he needs to perfect the plan now & anyway he'll have enough time to spend w/ his brother post heist in philippines. and then ... that happened :/

Tokyo has guts in place of braincells you bet that she’d do something like this, consequences be damned XD I also think it’s unrealistic for Andres not to slip up, but I have a feeling nobody besides Tokyo really tried to spy on them in private. I headcanon that Andres instead slips up and does things like ruffle Sergio’s hair or adjust his tie when other people are around. I also think Tokyo was convinced that they were a gay couple when she saw them hug XD And if Sergio never went on to tell the banda that Berlin was his brother, everyone would be giving Palermo such awkward looks after Nairobi accused him of being in love with Berlin LMAO. 

I agree! I also imagine Sergio giving Andres leeway because he’s just so used to interacting with his brother that way haha. So either he’d go out of his way to ignore Berlin in front of everyone else or IDK, borderline telepathically communicate with him. Not even “pass the salt” has to leave his mouth- Berlin just puts salt into his food and cuts it up for him, in front of everyone who’s just staring like O.O

I actually do think Sergio never considered the possibility of Andres dying in the heist because he was just that confident in his own plan. Plus, Andres was probably the one person he expected to survive. And a lot of it has to do with Sergio’s attachment to him + Andres’ own habit of downplaying any illness/injury over the years, which I think is safe to believe canon. He was really in no condition to be in the heist, let alone lead it. Just the fact that he needs to take those injections is a big sign that he shouldn’t be there, but Sergio didn’t catch it because he’s human and blinded by faith :’) So yeah, I think Sergio was planning to spend proper time with Andres in Palawan and at Toledo, they just settled for those little moments by the fireplace. 

4/? what always also just GETS me in the feels is that el prof was shown to be this in control creepily calm dude who is miles ahead of everyone. + in the 1st Toledo class itself we see how detached,, like how impersonal he is, how professional - choosing frickin CITY NAMES?! no 'personal relationships' ? (after recruiting his older brother, a father son pair, and war cousins... oh sergio 😂 he's such a frickin nerd and i love him) but like the earlier seasons really emphasised how robotic and down right COLD he can be. it still sometimes bothers me that he put the button in the car. he lead the police to his own damn brother, his blood, who took care of him and adopted him and was terminally ill and like - UGH i try to rationalise that sergio is that cold and unbothered. or that he has strict morals. but it still bothers me becz that button really sort of tipped andres' already unstable sanity. like andrés tells denver someth like you've robbed my future and after that he just seems so much more suicidal and accepting that he can't get out of the mint alive - WHY SERGIO WHY. I KNOW THAT AT THAT POINT YOU BASICALLY DIDN'T KNOW ANDRÉS WAS GOING TO BE YOUR BROTHER YET BECZ IT WASN'T WRITTEN IN THE SCRIPT BUT WHYYYYY

That’s so funny to me too LMAO No personal relationships, then he recruits these guys. Sergio, hello?? Also can’t forget how he just recruited his own girfrleind in the second heist too. Buddy! Love this nerd.

I don’t think that cold aspect of Sergio went away in later seasons either; he just had more opportunity to show a more open side of himself + without Andres, he had to metaphorically leave his comfort zone without a safety net. But in earlier seasons, he really did seem heartless at times XD Then again, we can argue that the same goes for Andres.

To be fair, I didn’t feel sorry for Andres over the button thing lol, but once the brothers reveal happened and all of Alvaro/Pedro’s headcanons came out and we know everything Andres did for Sergio, it makes what Sergio did REALLY harsh. We really just have to explain it through Sergio’s strict morals and him believing this to be the best non-fatal punishment for Andres, who at that point had convinced him he killed a hostage. And because he knew the television interview was coming up, maybe Sergio assumed Andres would use it to “clear” his name anyway. And empathy isn’t one of Sergio’s strong suits either, so through that lens, I can rationalize it.

Also it was lowkey funny to me how Andres was there like DENVER MUST DIE until he found out Sergio put the button there, then he was like “oh hermanito, you and your practical jokes <3″

Still, like you said, Andres and Sergio weren’t brothers yet at this point. They were probably supposed to be lovers lmao and had a dysfunctional Hannibal Lecter x Will thing going on. But because they made #hermanos canon, that button moment just feels very out of place now, especially given how much the two genuinely love each other.

Guess we could also say that Sergio’s just generally kinda bratty with Andres XD Like, he knows no matter what, Andres would forgive him anything. That’s how I see it anyway!

V Watches MagiReco - Episode 9 Review

*Spoilers for Magia Record Anime Episode 9*

I... have mixed feelings about this episode O___O While some parts were definitely well-done (like, REALLY well-done), there were some others that left me a bit underwhelmed and wanting something more?

Don’t get me wrong, by no means was it not a good episode, because it was. But I’m gonna try my hardest to pinpoint why I felt that while some parts were amazing, others really could have been done better.

The phone conversation with Iroha and AI had some top-notch imagery going on in the background. As expected of a PMMM spin-off, every single frame probably has some deep and profound symbolism if you really wanted to pause and analyse each one. There’s never a dull moment on screen; even when all that’s happening is a phone conversation, they know how to hold your attention by giving your eyes a feast with that amazingly trippy and surreal kind of art style that PMMM is known for.

I, too, was a bit disappointed that Madoka and Homura didn’t show up, and by the looks of it, they probably won’t be making their appearance during Sana’s arc at all, which makes yet another major deviation the anime has made. But it’s not that huge of a deal to me because I know they’ll appear at some other point and I’m sure they had their reasons for making this change (hopefully for something better!). I’m happy to let the new characters take the spotlight; I actually think it’s a better choice than constantly relying on the Holy Quintet to build hype and satisfy the fans, which could actually draw attention and focus away from the main plot sometimes. This is how I personally feel, at least ^^;;

That being said, although I didn’t mind Madoka and Homura not being there, I did have some issues with Iroha’s entrance into the Rumour. It just happened... way too quickly and suddenly? I expected a bit more dialogue between the characters, especially since Yachiyo’s expression and comment about jumping off the tower not killing magical girls should have been a big indicator that she knows something (wink wink). I think that might have been a good chance to foreshadow the reveal that comes with Chapter 6, and maybe add a bit more mystery to Yachiyo’s unrevealed past. But the biggest problem I had with this scene was the way Iroha jumped lol. She just... jumped. Like it was no big deal. And it was even weirder because she technically “fell” while reaching out to catch Lil’ Kyubey, but there was hardly any reaction xD She also happened to be in the middle of a sentence while talking to Yachiyo LOL clearly that “jump” wasn’t a planned or prepared one xD I just really felt like the dialogue wasn’t finished or something was cut somewhere in there? They were talking and suddenly down she goes. I know I probably sound extremely nitpicky and this is just a minor detail that doesn’t really make much difference to the story (none at all, in fact), but I just found her apathy somewhat unrealistic and strange, which broke the immersion for me during what should have been a very crucial and heart-pounding moment. Unless Iroha’s just super brave and isn’t afraid of heights at all? Maybe? xD

Anyway, back to the positive stuff! Sana’s backstory was depicted really well. Again, absolutely amazing visuals (I especially liked the use of shoes and dinosaurs). And Sana’s bond with AI was portrayed even better than in the game, in my opinion. It was the most heartwarming and bittersweet relationship, and it’s amazing to see how AI slowly changes in Sana’s company. By the way, their chess game with little puppies and kittens was adorable omg x) I’d love to write more on Sana and AI, but I don’t really have anything specific to say except that I just really, really loved how their relationship was portrayed. Definitely the best part about this week’s episode.

And now comes my biggest complaint: Alina’s debut. As one of the most popular and interesting MagiReco characters, I’m sure the entire fandom was looking forward to how the anime would go about introducing her. I don’t know if I just set my expectations too high or anything, but her entrance was extremely underwhelming for me. And a lot of the reasons were exactly the same as my dissatisfaction with Iroha’s jump: too rushed and too many missed opportunities. She just kind of appeared out of nowhere, and while I do appreciate the “shock value”, what annoyed me was the lack of of a proper “introduction” she got. AI stated her name, and Iroha questioned if she was a member of the Wings of Magius, but we didn’t get any answers. There was no explanation on who she was or what she was doing there, how she got in and what her relationship with AI was. Game players would know, of course, but I’m concerned that anime-only viewers will have no idea what’s going on and probably also have no idea that they just met one of the most important and popular characters of the franchise right now. Essentially, they’re just gonna be seeing a very flamboyant and crazy girl enter and wreck havoc but with no explanation about why she was doing what she was doing or what her connection was with the current situation and the bigger picture of the plot thus far. She just comes in and steals the spotlight, and while game players know that she definitely deserves the spotlight given who she is, anime-only viewers are probably going to be left wondering why this random green girl just came in, who the heck she is, and why everything is about her all of a sudden.

Another crucial piece of information that got lost in that very rushed and chaotic introduction was the fact that Alina actually used the word “Doppel”, which is the first time the term has been dropped in the anime. But again, no one even responded or reacted in any way (at least do the cliche thing where the protagonist repeats “Doppel?” or something LOL), but no she just keeps rambling on and yet another crucial piece of information is lost in the shuffle. What makes it possibly even more confusing is that her Doppel really doesn’t look like the Doppels we’ve seen so far; it could pass as her shooting random bits of paint-like oozy stuff instead, so I’m really struggling to see how anime-only viewers are going to make that connection and put the pieces together.

And if her entrance was underwhelming, then her “exit” was probably even worse lol. She just... disappears xD It’s quite anticlimactic considering how it looked like we were gearing up for Sana vs. Alina, and then she just suddenly gets kicked out lmao. I get that she’ll be back really soon, but it still felt way too abrupt? I think my main gripe about everything to do with Alina’s debut can be summed up in two words: too rushed. There’s so much about her character that’s interesting and vital to the story, but everything either gets glossed over really quickly or just dropped here and there with no response from the other characters. Even if they didn’t want to get into details right away, which is also fine, they could still have slowed down and built up some mystery and tension so that we’ll want to find out more about her because we’re interested and curious, and not because we have no idea what’s going on. Her appearance should have brought some answers to the questions raised throughout the story thus far, but instead she just brought more confusion and chaos lol.

But her entrance wasn’t all negative! They absolutely nailed her mannerisms. Basically everything that makes her so infamously crazy was delivered flawlessly. Her expressions, her movements, her voice, her speech, her word choice... she definitely entered with a BANG and she’s no doubt going to leave a deep impression on viewers, whether they understand her deal or not lol. The voice-acting was also top-notch, as expected of her seiyuu. Alina’s one of those characters where you really need to hear her speaking and see her moving to experience the full extent of her "charm”, and I’d say the anime definitely delivered in that respect and portrayed her uniqueness in a strong and memorable way, so props to them for that :D

^ I really wanted to use this image for this week’s review, but it’s technically Sana’s episode so I stuck with Sana xD Oh, and another thing I definitely loved about her entrance was hearing her saying so many of her lines from the game battles ^^

... Wow I just rambled and ranted for four whole paragraphs about Alina’s introduction, sheesus... Onto some other stuff now, shall we? ^^;;

One of the most interesting things to me about AI was how her appearance changes to become more and more like Sana. This is another example where the anime is able to illustrate things that the game isn’t capable of, and while I’m not sure if it’s a change or I simply missed it in the game because of the static AI sprite, I definitely liked this little detail. It not only shows how AI slowly becomes more and more human, but also highlights the fact that her form resembling Sana implies the influence that Sana has had on her. Sana is all AI has really ever known about humans and the “real” world, and all the human feelings and emotions she gains are because of Sana. It makes perfect sense that when she takes on a more human-like appearance, it’s going to resemble Sana in some respect. The little detail with the crown near the end was also really sweet ;___;

I really do think “mixed feelings” is the best way to describe my overall impression of this week’s episode xD Sana’s backstory and her relationship with AI had me in tears, but Iroha’s jump and Alina’s debut definitely had me raising my eyebrows a few times. I can overlook the Iroha part as just me being nitpicky over a trivial detail, but I really do hope that they step up their game with Alina next week. They definitely did her justice on a surface level, but in terms of her significance and relevance to the plot, not so much. She’s such an important character and her appearance marks a major plot point, so I hope we get the explanations and clarifications needed soon.

I have even higher expectations for next week, since not only is the showdown with Alina something I’ve been looking forward to for a while, but I’m also hoping that they “rectify” some of the issues this week lol. Fingers crossed that Alina gets some better writing, and they continue doing the amazing job they’ve done so far with Sana’s story! ^^

Sorry I’m so much more “negative” this week compared to how I usually am with my reviews, but I was looking forward to Alina’s appearance so much and was really sad to feel any ounce of disappointment :( Hopefully next week’s review will be back to just me fangirling throughout hehe~

accidentally, I bought Mr. Sebastian Vael Himself for da2....benji and i have a longrunning bit that basically we would never drop the $7 for him because he’s an archer and you already have varric so? why?? the religious aspect of his character was also a turn-off, bc the religion in dragon age is um.......Troubling :3 but i impulsively bought the complete edition of DA2 for the PC (alongside acnh.. it was wild spending my birthday money yoo haha) + only realized earlier that that includes Sebastian’s DLC lmao! the sneaky guy won out in the end XD

decided that no, I was not gonna move out on my own before going off to uni. My mom makes me really angry pretty often, so this has been something I’ve been considering for a while now. however, that meant also working enough to support myself (+ ben?) living alone, and That thought was a huge source of background anxiety. in the shower the other day i basically came to terms that it was unrealistic and unwise, esp bc I’m lucky enough to not be charged for rent or utilities or anything.

brainstormed more of corylana’s lore + how that would affect her costume, props, and mannerisms! I became really unenthused about Corylana’s character last month bc it was faire season and she was on my mind.. I realized there’s a lot of shallow aspects to her? and plot holes? So I reworked some things and expanded on her personal lore a bit... idk if I’m going to do Ren Faire next year, or if we’ll even Have a physical Faire next year, but Corylana is my de-facto fairegoing character so it was nice to develop her further ^v^

Very Basic Summary : A fairly popular photographer known for his more... disturbing photos, is sent an invitation to come to the beaches of Tione, Angeles to possibly bring light to the recent disappearances in the town that no one else seems to bother with, with the locals switching back and forth between the causes, either a mass murderer among them, a siren... or perhaps both? Either way, he accepts, because what could ever go wrong?

No one knew how, not even Remus himself, but he somehow suddenly got really popular.

He was a photographer, that occasionally wrote books. However his photos weren't quite... 'normal' photographs. A lot of people would probably find them horrific. Normally. But something about the way he took photos and described them seem to intrigue people, draw them in, and send them down a spiral of thoughts as they saw more.

Remus' pieces often contained much darker themes. Bones, burnt flesh, death, gore... and much more. Sometimes, a mix of what he photographed. He created collages that told morbid stories or tragic tales, most if not all true ones.

And that seemed to be what drew people in. Lured them to Remus, encouraged him to continue with his art.

And people loved his writing as well, the tales he told seemed so far-fetched, so unrealistic, until you found out he based them on past news reports he found, hidden deep within the web. And then you were reminded that this could happen to you.

But his stories weren't what he was known for, not completely. His photographs were more well-known. He didn't mind.

Remus opened up one of the letters on his desk, reading the neatly written letter. Fanmail, he originally thought it to be. Until he realized it didn't have a return address. A plane ticket slipped out from the pages, and he continued further down, unsure if it was excitement, curiosity, or worry that bubbled in his stomach.

Perhaps it was them all.

Dear Remus King,

      You will not have heard of me, of that I am certain. I do hope this letter isn't lost in the undoubtedly large amount of other mail you receive. My name is... well, it doesn't really matter what my name is, it's not important.

     Your work has made a lot of people think, and a lot of people worry, and become far more cautious of the world around them. And I've taken note that some of your written works contain a few more fantastical themes, that are illustrated to be a reality. Which, now that I think about it, they very well may be.

     If you have the time amongst your own projects, I would greatly appreciate it if you could come to Tione, Angeles (making up a fake place). I think there's a case here you'd greatly love to see, and maybe look to the beaches?

     Most are saying it's the handiwork of a siren, but then there are those that just believe mass murder. Every day there are more and more disappearances, leaving a gruesome beach behind. I feel it would fit in well with the theme of your... style, I suppose. And, it might finally draw some attention to our crisis /thank you Tione police for absolutely nothing!/

     Whatever your choice, I hope you have a splendid day! And I cannot wait to see your next line of work. If you do decide to see what's been happening, feel free to stay at the hotel of our dwindling town. If you just give them your name, they'll let you stay for free, expenses payed by me!      Oh, and I suppose my name not being known might be bothering you? I suppose you can know what most call me. When you arrive at the hotel and if you need a tour or something, just grab someone off the street and ask for Aki /aka me!/.

Remus regarded the letter carefully.

Disappearances? Caused by a siren? That did definitely catch his interest. But Tione he knew was quite a ways away. But then again... He did have a plane ticket, practically for free.

Remus hummed quietly, placing the letter back on his desk and pulling his laptop closer. If he was to make a decision, he'd need at least some information about this place other than its location.

Remus rubbed his eyes, slouching over a notebook he had opened to take down certain notes. His handwriting, which was already quite messy, steadily grew more and more ineligible as the night drew on.

He read articles dating back at least a hundred years ago. That's when the disappearances began, as far as he could tell. With the murder of Taylor Smithings. The rumor about a siren drawing people in only came in around the twentieth murder.

However if he was going there to photograph the beach, he needed to look into the most recent disappearances. So their names and supposed causes of death. Most of the drowning cases were thought to be the work of a siren.

Remus also had various notes of things about sirens, so that he had a basic idea of what he'd be getting into.  How they lured people in, how they came to be. Why they might draw people in to kill them.

The lore surrounding the creatures was simply fascinating.

His phone rang, and Remus groaned quietly, glancing at the clock before picking up his phone. It was far too late for anyone he personally knew to be calling him.

Except maybe Virgil.

"Remus King, wondering who the fuck calls at three in the morning, how may I help you?"

"Remus!" Ah, so it was Virgil. "Have you checked the news at all tonight? There's something you've gotta see!"

Remus groaned again, rubbing his eyes. He felt exhausted. He didn't feel that often.

"Can it wait until later in the morning?"

"Dude!"

"Fine, fine..." Remus grumbled as he turned his computer back on, looking to the news platform he and Virgil often checked. His eyes widened as he leaned in closer to get a better look at the article, his heart suddenly gaining speed.

"Oh my fucking god, Emile?!"

"I know right! A lot of people have already started getting really mad, considering Emile's just a sweet therapist who's helped more people than anybody else. But dude, look further into this, something doesn't feel right about it."

Remus glanced at the envelope on his desk. He bit his lip. "Actually, maybe you can take this one? Emile's a friend and all, but my plans just suddenly got full for the month."

He heard Virgil sigh, could imagine Virgil rubbing the bridge of his nose. "Alright, I get it. I'll do this one. It's horrible that it happened to Emile of all people though."

"I know. Call Remy for me and ask how he's doing? He can't be doing all too good..."

"I know, will do. Mind if I ask what new project you just took up before you go to bed?"

"Something in Tione, Angelas. Night V."

"See ya whenever you get back."

Virgil hung up, and Remus set his phone down, leaning back in his chair. He would've loved to handle this case, but he knew Virgil could handle it, back in their hometown. Poor Emile and Remy though, he thought, slowly getting out of his chair to go to bed.

They deserved better, honestly.

He sighed as he flopped onto bed, burying himself in the mess of sheets, old stuffed animals, and random papers he never had the motivation to clean up.

Well, since I did Leopardstar's ref sheet, I decided to do another original series leader. So here's Tallstar. ^^

I'm not totally happy with this. I suck at active poses - I reffed this pose pretty heavily, but I'm still not happy with it. Ah, whatever. I used to try to stick to Tallstar's design from COTC, but I finally gave up. XD That weird white patch on his back was just too unrealistic for me, and the other white markings on his legs and tail looked weird when I added the required white paws and tail-tip that he's mentioned to have in the text. But I tried to keep a few aspects of that design - his face markings, and the split on the white on his belly. I'm pretty pleased with the end result. And yes, he and Jake were totally in love. I think they only became mates after finding each other again in the afterlife, but they are totally mates there, and you'll never convince me otherwise.

While I am at it xD Eis’ childhood was horrible. The only thing that might not have made him into an unloving monster was Nippy and Lumi. His mother has unrealistic ridiculous expectations of him. This man is so stressed. (had this in mind there) Almost about to explode at any moment. also have some sad pic :V

All his toys you see are most likely from Nippy. He felt so bad for him.
