You should watch Jack vs. Webtoons video on Lore Olympus before it gets wrongfully taken down.

His video pointed out something I wasn’t able to put into words until now. Lore Olympus has a real bad dialect problem. One second the characters are talking like they’re in a Shakespeare play which makes sense, sense they’re gods or what not. The next second you’ll have characters saying shit like “blue balls” “clout chaser” and “you’ve got a young wife with a fat ass”. It probably wouldn’t bother me if certain people talked a certain way like how Hera doesn’t use any slang and how Hermes uses some but all the characters vocabulary are the exact same.

Honestly I can look past the art and it’s inconsistencies but having dialect jump from regal to tiktok facebook slang makes my brain hurt more than glossy lipped Hades and bug eyed Persephone.

I checked it out, it's pretty great haha and yesss this is something that's been discussed before but I haven't really ever made a post about, the dialogue is CONSTANTLY flip-flopping between royal talk and "hello fellow teens" quipping. Sometimes it feels like it's trying to be like Marvel and then other times it feels like it's trying to be Bridgerton. I can think of no better example than all of the "pedigree" talk, it makes me squirm every time I read it because in the modern context of LO, it SCREAMS eugenics. The whole B-grade goddess thing made sense, until they started talking about Persephone like a poodle:

But then you ALSO get INCREDIBLY stiff dialogue that makes it seem like the comic is either being written by AI or Rachel is actually a real life version of Michael Afton post-scoop:

And yes, there is a tinfoil hat theory that LO is being written by bots at this point because I don't know how a single person could write something so tonally confused. That said, I do think the more reasonable explanation is that Rachel is likely copying dialogue from shows and movies she's watching and just tweaking it slightly before slapping it into LO. She's not observing why the dialogue works in the media she likes, she just knows she likes it and slaps it in there without any regard for context, tone of voice, or personality.

And that leads to, as you said, all the characters sounding the exact same, and that metric by which they all sound the same changes all the time. I think at this point the only reason we haven't seen Hera dropping TikTok language is because she hasn't been onscreen long enough for her to get the chance LMAO That said, we've definitely gotten some weird inconsistent dialogue with Hera as well:

(like she's essentially saying the exact same thing across both of these panels but one is being said by an adult and the other is being said by a teenager lmao)

I think the dialogue is definitely one of the most glaring issues with LO, among all of its other problems. It just never feels like it's being written by a human, there are problems with this even as far back as S1 but it's become especially apparent in S2 onwards.

To finish off this ask, here's one of my favorite dialogue mishaps in the entire series, from S1, in which Apollo literally adopts an askew English accent:

The murder-mystery film, THE DA VINCI CODE. I feel like Kuras would love the movie if it existed in his world since it’s canon that he likes trashy murder mysteries.

The song, ‘No Good Deed Goes Unpunished’ from WICKED— “[MC] where are you? Already dead, or bleeding? One more disaster I can add to my Generous supply…No good deed goes unpunished. No act of charity goes unresented. No good deed goes unpunished. That’s my new creed.”

GONE WITH THE WIND— “Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn.” This line was controversial when released in 1939 because swear words weren’t normalized. I feel like Kuras, like this movie, rarely swears but when he does, the whole room goes silent and you know shit’s about to go down. Also according to the RSS radial chart, Kuras has low empathy plus maxed out strength high wisdom, damn at some point that man might legit not give a damn-

MAQUIA: WHEN THE PROMISED FLOWER BLOOMS— “you smell weird, you smell like the sun;” “If you fall in love, you will truly become alone.” Contextually the line is about how an immortal should never get too close with mortals because they'll one day they’ll die, and it fits Kuras a lot.

HUNTER X HUNTER 2011—“[MC] you are light. Sometimes, you shine so brightly, I must look away. But even so, is it still ok to stay by your side?” I love the idea of an angel heavily associated with the sun (Prometheus, likes sunny days, radiates heat), finds someone that is the light of their life.

ONE PIECE— “I have seen the future of this country. And it is destruction. As long as [the Senobium] remains here, this country can never be cured, because even if medical technology progresses, even if [alchemical] research continues… there is no cure for stupidity.”

OPPENHEIMER. After I watched the movie all I could think about was Kuras doing the blank eye stare at the end of the movie.

GASTON from BEAUTY AND THE BEAST— Gaston and Leander both have similar vibes. They’re both trusted and well-liked by most people, viewed as heroes, are human but are monsters on the inside, overconfident, attractive, has a possessive streak, hangs out in bars, nice singing voice. The main difference is that Gaston doesn’t try to act like a nice guy like Leander Fake ahhh

The song ‘Burn’ from HAMILTON— “Do you know what [Vere] said when we saw your first letter arrive? [He] said, be careful with that one, love, he will do what it takes to survive…Do you know what [Kuras] said when [he] read what you’d done? Sampo from HONKAI STAR RAIL— I barely know anything about Honkai Starrail, but I was going to an anime goods store with my friend and one look at him made me think of Leander. My friend gave me a run down that he betrays you for money and runs away and unironically I could see Leander throwing us under the bus.

VERE

This scene from the movie, MALENA. Vere is heavily desired by men and women alike, but his flirty and fickle personality is just a front to protect himself. And he hates how people see him as a pretty face or someone who needs saving from the Senobium. Tbh Malena herself just reminds me of Vere’s problem of how being pretty is a double edged sword. People see you’re pretty, so they feel threatened or idealize you. You feel extremely lonely bc people are distracted by your beauty and won’t try to understand you intimately. So you either own it and be alone OR assimilate and have friends. Vere is the former.

Madonna-Whore Complex. This article explains it pretty well, “The Madonna Whore Complex (MWC) is a psychological complex often perpetuated by heterosexual, cisgender males which places women into two categories the “Madonna, a woman who is pure, virtuous, and nurturing, or a “Whore,” a woman who is deemed as overly sexual, manipulating, and promiscuous. The dichotomy of MWC creates a rigidity that limits women’s sexual expression, agency, and freedom by defining their sexuality into one of two categories.” Vere is the latter.

Ymir from ATTACK ON TITAN. Both of them were self-proclaimed deity, was caught lying (presumably), and paid for it. Their personalities are similar too except Vere masks himself through innuendos.

The song, ‘The Red Means I Love You’ by Madds Buckley— “The red on my face is matching you. And goodness, you're bleeding, what a wonderful feeling. You're down and you're pleading, my head is just reeling. The red means I love you. Tasting your blood means I love you.” (I can’t see Vere becoming a yandere because he’s already deranged)

Another line from ONE PIECE —“Someday I will become too much of a burden. Someday you’ll betray me and cast me aside.”

SHUTTER ISLAND— “What would be worse, to live as a monster or die as a good [person]?” Mhin hates monsters ironically since they are one, and I could see them nearing the time limit where their curse becomes permanent and decides that maybe it’s better to die with their humanity than live forever as a monster.

This scene from SHAPE OF WATER. MC falls in love with a monster and trying to save them from danger. MC knows that they are also an outsider, a monster. Being with the LI’s feels like they were finally accepted for who they are, regardless of their curse, so they can’t abandon them— “When they looks at me…the way they looks at me, they don’t know what I lack. How I am incomplete...and now I can either save them or let them die.” I think this quote can also be interpreted as the players choosing a route, essentially dooming the other players if we don’t choose them.

Famous line from 10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU— “but mostly I hate how I don’t hate you, not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all.” The fact that us as players will keep coming back to them, replaying their routes even though they killed us, and obsessing over them. Yes they suck but we still love them.

This quote from Green Mile— “ I’m tired…I'm tired of bein' on the road, lonely as a sparrow in the rain. Tired of not ever having me a buddy to be with.” I think this quote really emphasizes how touch-starved MC is, and how alone they feel from being betrayed by people they cared about in the past (also sparrow name drop ^-^)

Favorite place in the world you’ve visited?

I haven't been many places at all, and all of the places I enjoyed are neighboring states (Florida, SC, Tennessee, Alabama.) so it's almost the same as being home. I'll say Alabama, went to a cliff that my parents, aunt, and uncles used to climb and camp at all the time, idk what it's actually called but they always called it Sand Rock (take a guess what the rock is primarily made of...) it was entirely untouched when they used to go, but now there's fucking campsites and a huge pavilion there, I hate it bc the pictures my parents took made the place look so perfect and secluded, no trash anywhere. Now there's a fucking dumpster with shit leaking out of it and stupid "Beware! Cliff!" signs everywhere like no shit there's a cliff its a rock wall you idiots-

Islands Of The Damned - R.V. Burgin. I love how simply he wrote it, like he really put his authentic self on those pages and didn't try to seem "more educated" than he was because he was just a little Texas boy and I loved that about him.

Those are really the only ones I can recall details from so I'll stick with those, but I did enjoy Helmet For My Pillow - Robert Leckie a lot, I read that in the truck while waiting for my brother to get out of class,. Generation Kill - Evan Wright was also good but it read so... grade-school-y, ya know?

The MEN- okay I'll be serious. I'm not exactly sure what my culture is since Southern culture is Black culture (no I won't fight anyone on this unless you've been here, experience life here, and looked into literally any staple of Southern culture and seen that yeah 99% of it is rooted in Black history) and I'm.... Ghostly- I love the sense of community and the general easy-going but also absolutely chaotic feel you get everywhere you go. Like yeah I could get called "baby" and "sugar" and "honey" by the sweet old cashier, and then right when I walk out of the store I could suddenly be helping some stranger pack a deer with ice and have blood all over my hands and arms, the polarity of Southern-ness is great.

I want to say two and a half years ago, not really sure though- Band of Brothers was my first watched it back to back like four times, then Gen Kill and watched that one probably four times back to back as well, then The Pacific like two or three times back to back, and now I'm suffering through MOTA.

🧠- Random Tangled Headcanon you have?

Oh, this reminded me that a while back I did an entire post with head canons of all the cast!

It's a bit old, may need to re-visit that sometime in the future but the first on that list is the first headcanon that came to mind for me and one I reference often in my work!

It's the idea that the flower in Rapunzel's hair are hand-picked by Eugene every morning!

It started as Eugene giving flowers to his girlfriend because that's a normal couple thing to do! But Rapunzel being new to relationships didn't think to put the flowers in a vase so she'd start adding them right into her hair, a reminder of Eugene to bring with her throughouth her day!

And Eugene, of course, got into the habit of picking her fresh flowers every morning because only the best for his love!

I just think this is something they'd do!

🎞- Movie or Series?

If I had to choose I guess I'd say series, but honestly they're inseparable in my mind!

I only got into the series because I saw the movie in cinemas as a kid and it was one of my fave Disney films since! I remember that first trailer for Before Ever After on YouTube, the excitement!

I remember the first season which I watched on Spanish television. So excited to see Eugene, Rapunzel, the new characters! Attila! Seeing these background characters get extra screen time!

But if I had to choose, I have to say series because it's what drove me into fanfics, and tumblr and back into the fandom after so many years!

📚- Favorite Tangled Fanfic?

The idea of choosing just one... I don't think it'd even be honest for me to do so because it honestly depends on what I feel like! I don't have a singular fave but I'll try to keep the list short!

If I want some cute kid, gentle, Cassandra content, literally one of @frozenwolftemplar's fics, I can't even name a specific one because she has so many one-shots that are so beautifully written, so adorable, her Young Cassandra series though is my safe space! Lots of them center around Cass' childhood which I love, I have an entire page on my kindle of her one-shots and if I'm not misremembering I was reading her fics before getting back into commenting and interacting in the community. It's possible you could credit her I came to this fandom at all? After all, I needed cute one-shots which would help feed my desire for more tts content and her fics just suck you in!

If I feel up to a longer fics, to nobody's surprise as I've talked quite a bit about it in the past I'd have to point to Tangled: Between The Kisses by @the-writer1988 and @tangledbea. It's a full series re-imagining and it just takes so much time and care in flashing out so many different characters!

Although my all time fave character isn't in it, my other faces: Eugene, Arianna, Lance, they are not just in it but perhaps some of my fave representation of them in any fanfic!

The way they do POVs is so amazing! It's just a really good read, especially if you love New Dream, or any of the characters I just listed!

And having mentioned New Dream and having mentioned One-shots how can I not mention my fave short New Dream fics:

Look, if you love New Dream and haven't read them just do so! They're super short but they're beautifully written and for whatever reason, maybe the prose, maybe how gentle and thoughtful they are, I don't know, they just hit me really hard!

All of these fics are ones that occupy my mind even when I'm not reading, which let me tell you isn't easy! Simply because I have really bad memory so even a fic I enjoy a lot will very soon escape my brain, but these are the ones that outdid those odds!

It took a lot for me to reduce the list down this much because there's just so many amazing Tangled fanfics out there!

I really should post recommendations more often because so many fics do not get the attention they deserve! But I'm really scared I'd end up forgetting some really important ones or something.

For now, I do have my 'fanfic fanart' tag where I post my fanart sketchbook spread (or I should if I tag correctly), and hopefully the posts under that tag will only grow! (I have a few I'm just drumming up the bravery to post while they wait in drafts!)

But I'm always looking for new fics to read! Especially ongoing ones or shorter ones, as I'm a pretty slow reader! So if anybody has recs, please send them my way! (including your own fics, of course!)

Wednesday- Netflix Show Review (spoilers duh)

Alright, i watched the show. Did i like it? Eh!! Will i still participate in fandom? Yes!

Show rating: 3 stars??

Right off the bat you can tell the only good actor in this show is the main character. Jenna Ortega 100% did this role amazingly, and was my second favorite character (first being Thing ofc). Everyone elses acting ranged from mid to just straight up not good? Not to mention like jesus the cast either looks 12 or late 20s, is this highschool, middle school or college?? And dont get me started on the MAIN MALE LEADS ACTING??? Tyler played by Hunter Doohan, deadass sounds like a shitty anime dub protagonist. And by GOD did that get on my nerves. I will say either the acting is better or more tolerable by the end of the season but thats most likely due to the fact the screen time mainly shifts onto the main character Wednesday. Which im fine with.

I love Wednesday, i love her so much. She is so autistic coded, just like me for real. Jennas portrayal is amazing. Line delivery, body language, everything down to the tea for amazing it was.

The writing...... yeah the writing..... yeah no..... Its not great, it feels like they only focused on making Wednesdays lines good and give 0 shits about anyone else. Some moments are great i wont lie, but alot of the writing comes off as???? Eh??? And the actors definitely didnt help carry the writing. Maybe with a different cast, it wouldn't have been so hard to watch.

The show starts off with a very strong pallet of "how do you do, fellow kids?" and honestly has one of the worse hooks ive ever seen. Social media being shoved down are throats and a couple of ad placements throughout the first episode, i was expecting a full on "HEY BUY THE LATEST IPHONE, EAT SOME DORITOS AND SHOP AT OLD NAVY" type of ads like the Addison Rae movie. Like oooooooooooof, thankfully they tone that down, but its still very obvious in some scenes.

Shows like this always make me feel weird where they have "outcast" "normie" type stuff. And yeah it was.... ?????? Man idk lmao. This show did alot of stereotypes and ???? stuff?? throughout it, that was honestly very weird? Like for example Enid isnt able to transform into a werewolf, and her mom wants to send her to.... wait for it.... CONVERSION THERAPY??? Are we serious??? And its like this long awkward scene that felt like a coming out scene of her turning down conversion therapy, and her mom storming out and her dad saying how proud he is and he will always support her....... like deadasss???? AND THEN!!! SHE ENDS UP "WOLFING OUT" AT THE END ANYWAYS????? So like are you serious??? They dealt with it like it was a coming out thing and it was a puberty thing and alsoa disability, so that was icky!!!

A HUGE ICK IS IN THE ENDING???? We find out what a hyde is and all of a sudden Wednesday finds out that Tylers mom, oh my god, was a HYDE!!! So she confronts him and let me just quote this scene for yall"

Wednesday: "Her postpartum depression triggered her condition"

Tyler: "My mom has severe bipolar disorder."

Wednesday: "We both now thats a lie..... She was a Hyde"

LIKE DID WE REALLY???? DID WE REALY JUST COMPARE A SEVERE MOOD DISORDER TO A CREATURE???? IN THE SHOW A HYDE IS DESCRIBED AND "UNLEASHED" By this: "artists by nature, but equally vindictive in temperament.” He wrote: “Born of mutation, the Hyde lays dormant until unleashed by a traumatic event or unlocked through chemical inducement or hypnosis."

Like???? what we arent going to do is compare an already severely stigmatized disorder to a literal monster. That is so fucked up??? On so many levels????

There were a couple good moments in the show, and i did really like watching the friendship between Enid and Wednesday blossom. Any scene with Thing was good and also the scenes with Eugene were pretty adorable. I do enjoy the way she does investigate and the mystery aspect is semi solid. Her visions are also portrayed very well and i like them. The fight scenes i would say are pretty well choreographed.

Wednesday has alot of autistic / neurodivergent traits, along with alot of the other characters and that is very fun to watch. Because omg me? Very relatable! Does put the whole "outcast" "normie" thing in a weird perspective tho huh?

Anways would i watch it again? No

Will i watch the second season? Yeah probably!!

Do I recommend it? EH??? If you can get through the first two episode and look past the cringey/ unbearable acting, then yeah go ahead. Its only 8 episodes, i finished it in a day, so if you just want the show in the background or youre bored sure. Again there are some captivating scenes but honestly none that are very hooking to me.

how would you rank the official disney princesses/queens? (15 of them now) is their ranking different from their movie's ranking?

Teeeechnically I think there's only 13 as Anna & Elsa have their own franchise and thus considered separate, and like a dozen others are/were considered honorary/official princesses, so I'm only gonna do the ones currently considered in the lineup and appear on the new merch together.

Princesses - This was actually REALLY hard to do because I love most of them and I think it's hard for me to truly "rank" most of these in a proper order without a LOT of overexplaining. I'll try to keep it brief:

13 - Pocahontas, because she shouldn't even exist at this point

12 - Raya, I didn't and have no desire to see her movie, but since she's not an offensive depiction of a real life person she's automatically better than Pocahontas. Otherwise she'd be 13 because it's not entirely fair for me to rank her without seeing her movie for myself.

11 - Rapunzel, due to overexposure and I actually enjoy her love interest more (Eugene)

10 - Aurora, because she unfortunately just doesn't get enough of screentime to show off her personality, even though it is still there. She's dreamy, romantic, and a friend to the forest, but that's ALL we get to know. I myself am a bit more fixated on her than some others, especially nowadays (she's my 3rd personal favorite behind Belle, and Ariel), but again she's just not that fleshed out. However I am OBSESSED with her gorgeous voice. Such a beautiful, rich operatic beauty. I'm kind of okay with her never getting a sequel (we just ignore Enchanted Tales in this house) because I can imagine other parts of her personality.

9 - Cinderella, as even though she does have a kind and strong personality and has this layer of being an abuse survivor that I like, I just don't find her as interesting in her original movie as she is in Cinderella III: A Twist in Time, which is one of my favorite sequels. I do like that her dream though involves just wanting to have one night out and the falling in love stuff was just a cute accident.

8 - Merida because yes she "is a brat" but literally just take 2 more seconds to watch her movie and you'd see WHY she's like She's a teenager, her mother is trying to mold her into a mini-Queen and doesn't really listen to her, and she's being forced into a political marriage against her will. OF COURSE she's acting out, hello?? I also like how more sporty she is compared to some of the other princesses, that's a nice change. I mean I know there's Mulan too but her sportiness was more a result of her training and not just an innate passion she had. Anyways her she also stands out to me as the only princess who refuses to get married simply because she doesn't want to in that moment. She doesn't express that it's because "marriage makes you weak/not independent anymore/i'm just not like other girls" or whatever, she's just not ready or even sure she wants to at all, which is okay! I like to think she stays a single Queen later in life.

7 - Snow White because I find her so sweet, and like Aurora, I adore her unique singing voice. I love her yearn for a love so true and how she truly believes her Prince is coming to rescue her someday. She really believes in love and hope, which I find admirable.

6 - Moana because I love her strong desire to do the right thing and how there's a twinge of selfishness to her actions, as I think it makes her more human. She's trying to save her island, yes, but she's also fulfilling her own desire to see the ocean and defy her father. But it's due to BOTH of these things that her arc unfolds and she learns her lesson while also saving the day.

5- Mulan, see Moana but add extra points mostly due to personal preference and how much I love her song.

4 - Jasmine because I love how unmoving she is in her morals, She knows what she is worth and will NOT be told what to do or who to marry, defying everyone including her own father. She is a princess who listens to her heart and refuses to give up what she believes in. I'm just a little sad that this mostly just boils down to "I am not marrying for advantage, father" throughout the movie, but still, she's great.

3 - Ariel for her undying curiosity and how she goes for what she wants. Her collecting of things and fascination with the human world hit harder to me now, but I also just think many of us can relate to that.

2 - Belle, who I feel like I've talked SO MUCH about already that IDK if there's anything else I can say. I adore her intuition, headstrongness, and kind heart. I even like that she's kind of daredevilish in a bad way, like girl he could kill you lmao just stay out that ONE place. Like good on you for not giving that literal giant brat the respect of following his rules you didn't agree to, but STILL. Anyways, I also enjoy that her love of books doesn't come from feeling like she's better than the others in her village because she reads, she just happens to love reading. Her books are a source of comfort and escapism, which I find very sympathetic.

1 - Tiana, because I feel she is the most fleshed out and I love how determined she is. She also has one of the best designs, wardrobes, and signature songs of any of the princesess.

Movies - Again this was REALLY hard but this is my best shot. It's probably much less accurate than how I feel about the princesses themselves though as I haven't seen some of these in a while

13 - Pocahontas because again Disdney should've removed her franchise entirely

12 - Raya and the Last Dragon because again I haven't seen it and can't really rank it properly but also knowing what I do about it I have no desire to see it anyway

11 - Tangled because again overexposure, plus there are been several plot points that rub me the wrong way now and the TV show did a lot of...things. (#JusticeForCaptainDad always)

10 - Brave, or as it SHOULD'VE been called The Bear and the Bow. Seriously, I can't STAND what they did to the original film after firing the first director. But that's a huge can of worms that other people have already better voiced. Just watch everything that's actually about Merida and her mom as it should've been and fast forward through the rest.

09 - Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, because I love Snow herself, I'm not really as interested in the Dwarves, who we spend more time with. Even as a kid I usually fast forwarded through the parts where it was just them. The songs tend to keep my attention though. My favorite is "I'm Wishing/One Song". Short but sweet.

08 - Cinderella for similar reasons to her character ranking and how I feel about Snow White. I just think I get too bored with the parts that aren't about the lead, which is made worse by again Cinderella III AND that are there are just more Cinderella adaptations I like better, like the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical (+ all of its movie verisons), Ella Enchanted (the novel), and Ever After.

07 - Aladdin - The film has pretty good characters (Jasmine is the best) but suffers from a lot of orientalism and offensive stereotypes for characters outside the leads. There are others that have gone into better detail than I can, so I'll leave that alone for now. But I think its good stuff is still very good. I like the three leads and the villain, and the songs are very fun. I have to admit though, I think I was more of a fan of the TV series and its finale (King of Thieves) as it depicts a great long-term and healthy relationship, which is more than I can say for most Disney couples.

06 - Moana for its amazing personal story. Moana goes through this amazing journey for both herself and to protect her island, cultivating in two incredible scenes ("I Am Moana" & "You Know Who You Are"). Plus oh my stars the animation is GORGEOUS. I think it's all brought down a bit by Maui though. I find him a bit more annoying than some do. Not always annoying, but IDK I just don't like him very much until we learn his backstory and it puts his "celebrity" persona into new light.

05- Mulan also for its amazing personal story. Mulan is not just a story about a girl pretending to be a soldier, but a girl who wants so desperately to prove to her family and herself that she is worth something. It barely cracks above Moana for me probably because I saw it first and for the song "Reflection". I relate so intensely to that song. ALSO BISEXUAL ICON LI SHANG.

04 - Sleeping Beauty for its all-around classic vibes. Plus it has some of the most unique art and music of any of the princess movies. The fairies are fun characters, the romance is snapshot but still charming, and the finale freaking rocks. Prince Phillip is a badass and I still stand by that.

03 - The Princess and the Frog. I think this is still one of the best-looking Disney movies out there, and it has the best princess and one of the best Princes, buuuut I'm not the biggest fan of parts of the soundtrack and I think the story needed some more work. But otherwise it's a GREAT watch. Tiana and Naveen have one of my favorite love stories, and the fact that they get married TWICE is iconic. I cannot WAIT for Tiana's series to come out.

02 - The Little Mermaid because I'm biased but I also do think it's just really good. The songs are all great, the romance is very sweet, and the impact it has had has been undeniable. "Part of Your World" still makes me sob for how much I realate to it. (Sidenote: I think I like the Broadway musical even more because while a couple of the new songs kind of bloat it ("Positoovity" & "Sweet Child", mostly) I like the additions to Eric and Ariel's romance, Triton's tear-jerking "If Only (Reprise)" and making Ariel more active in the finale)

01 - Beauty and the Beast again because I'm biased lmao. But I mean, come on, it really is as good as everyone says. Incredible musical storytelling, art, and characters - it's packed with great things. Plus it spawned one of my favorite Broadway musicals (which may be even better than the movie). There's things I'd critique of course, but I can't deny how influential and magical this film is to both myself and film in general.

Jeez this took a WHOLE Barbie movie to answer. And these are just my barebone thoughts. But this is the best I could come up with for now.

Ok so I finished Wednesday...

So first of all I wanna start by saying I really liked the series. I'm gonna go into detail about what I liked and didn't like and what I want to see improved in later seasons (assuming there are any). But overall no matter my criticisms overall I really liked the show as a whole! You might be asking yourself why I'm not just writing a review on IMDB or something? To which my reasoning is that this is my little blog and I am going to exercise my right to rant about my stupid little obsessions on the internet as much as I want!

Just a heads up I am going to go into spoilers so I would highly encourage you to watch the show first and come to your own decisions before reading what some rando on the internet has to say about it. Now with that out of the way, let's get into it...

The Good:

Obviously the art direction is great, I mean it's Tim Burton directing an Addams Family reboot, that's a match made in heaven! The characters were wonderful, I honestly think they carried the show imo. Eugene and Thing were some standouts to me although of course Bianca, Enid and Wednesday were my favorites. I just really feel like Eugene was like the MVP and like was consistently one of the nicest characters both to Wednesday and the other characters (although the scene where he barfs all over the pilgrim bullies was kinda dated, really felt like I was watching an early 2000s movie making fat jokes in poor taste) The music score was lovely it really sold the whole "Goth Girl Hogwarts" vibe which I don't mean as a jab towards Goths cause I'm obviously here for that or I wouldn't be writing about this show.

The not so good:

Tbh the whole teen romance subplot wasn't doing it for me. I mean I get why they wrote it in but it felt kinda forced at times ngl. Like having Wednesday go back and forth between Tyler and Xavier, (the two most boring "straight guy" names of all time btw) after a while it felt like writers ran out of excuses on why Wednesday would be leaving one of the boys hanging while pursuing the other. Yes a lot of people have complained about how boring in general Xavier and Tyler were as characters and I agree! You had on one had an artsy loner boyfriend who has psychic abilities and the power to LITERALLY MAKE HIS DRAWINGS COME TO LIFE and they managed to make him uninteresting and kinda unlikable (that last one being more subjective to myself but you get the point). And on the other hand a literal serial killer boyfriend who turns into a 10ft tall monster with a mommy kink. And like just saying the whole idea that Laurel controls Tyler because she told him the truth about his mother also being a Hyde was kinda weak. Like just say the kid has mommy issues!

In all honesty the main gripe that I have with the show is actually about Wednesday herself. She didn't really get that much character development throughout the season. YES her relationship with Enid was very cute and I love Enid...BUT...the show even acknowledges that Wednesday is kinda a jerk to her friends. Enid straight up tells her to her face that she doesn't like the way she treats her, bringing her along to dangerous investigations and tricking her with the promise of a girls night out. And before we knew that Tyler was the real killer he was in the same boat. I mean she leads him on prioritizing herself first and her investigation and uses him to get what she wants. Same with Xavier who REALLY got the short end of the stick getting PUT IN FUCKING JAIL (even if it was only for a night or so). It felt like towards the second half of the season that Wednesday was going through a series of selfish decisions and having characters highlight them to her face so that she could reflect on her bad actions and grow as a character. But instead of giving us that payoff she literally doesn't grow OR APOLOGIZE to basically anyone! And when she does apologize it's weak as hell! Instead most of the characters she treats like crap come to her and apologize or attempt to rekindle their relationship. I MEAN FOR GOD'S SAKE Enid literally tells Wednesday TO HER FACE, that she is the one making most of the effort in their friendship and instead of apologizing, Wednesday just tells her she doesn't need friends and that she's a gigachad alpha. And Enid just comes back like an episode later and has a change of heart. And her "apology" to Xavier was just pathetic. He just sorta forgave her for everything after being justifiably pissed the fuck off at her for ruining his life and then suddenly forgives her for everything because she took an arrow to the shoulder for him.

Like it feels like the writers ran out of time or something, like they wanted her relationship with Enid and the other characters to have more depth. Like most of the other side characters have at least decent character development arcs, like Enid and Bianca standing up to their Mothers. The thing is I like Wednesday as a character, contrary to what you might have just read I want to root for her! But the writers made it a bit hard towards the end. I know they wanted to sell the whole Goth girl, raven from teen titans, attitude but it's ok guys you can make her a little more likable.

Conclusions:

You may think that I have been a bit harsh or nitpicky about the show. Or perhaps you're thinking "Why the hell did this loser nobody write several paragraphs about some dumb teen drama Netflix show" to which my response is why are you still reading? YES I'm probably a bit harsh on this series or nitpicky but that's because I like it so much! When something that you enjoy is so close to being "perfect" (or at least really well done) it's all the more disappointing when it just barely falls short. If your favorite sports team loses by one point right before the final whistle you're even more crushed that you would've been if they had lost by 8 points.

To conclude despite the cheesy teen romance plot lines and boring ass love interests, I enjoyed my time with this show and if there are more seasons to come (which it's looking like there will be considering the success of the show) I want to see the show do better and improve upon it's previous seasons.

My thoughts and theory for 'A Minecraft Movie'

I never thought this would happen. I follow the Minecraft Instagram and seen some information but never thought that it's really going to happen.

When the trailer came out, it was uploaded literally 1 minute. However, I didn't watch it immediately. I actually didn't want to watch it as someone who plays Minecraft sporadically. I play on Bedrock and for some reason, I can't play it on PC since it triggers my motion sickness. So I'll be honest, I only know a few things about the recent updates.

The first OG Minecrafter that I saw posted about the movie is DanTDM. He didn't really react badly about it. He just recounted his trip to New Zealand where the movie was flimed. He described seeing the set pieces. Also, he just pointed out one thing, the title. He emphasized on the "A" part of the title and said there's a reason as to why its titled that way.

The second one I watched the reaction of is CaptainSparklez, another OG Minecrafter. His reaction is a bit more mixed. And honestly, I do hope "Aww Man" is going to be a line. It'd would be nice!

At this point, there is another Minecrafter I'm waiting the reaction of but I don't think its going to happen. I'm talking about PewDiePie lol. The very YouTuber that got me to play Minecraft. I do hope to see reactions of my current favorite Minecraft builders as well.

I want to react to this as orderly as I can cause all will lead to my theory.

The live action is vibrant and amazing! It looked like it was modded with shaders on and seriously, it looks AMAZING! The animals featured looked so goofy especially the pink sheep and llama. I like it a lot regardless of what others say.

I keep seeing videos with title saying that the trailer looked terrible. I didn't feel like watching it cause I like the trailer. I don't want to complain about these videos saying that the trailer looks awful when I didn't even watch them but it seemed unjustified.

When the Sonic movie got hated, everyone has a point! Sonic's model just looks awful! But I don't think Minecraft should get it when Minecraft mods exists. You can literally change the look of your Minecraft game with mods. So I don't understand the hate for this one. Also I think the reason it was redesigned is to somehow match the live actors. Anyways... tangent sorry.

The Netherworld mobs looks amazing! They don't particularly looks like vanilla MInecraft mobs but the interpretation looks amazing! Honestly, aside from the Wolf, I like how the Piglins look like.

I do have one thing I hate though, the trees. If you have ever played Minecraft, every block has a set place. So seeing the trees having leaves blocks not in place just irks me.

Live actors. I only recognize two of them, Jason Momoa and Jack Black. I looked up the cast and I seriously have not watched anything that Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks and Sebastian Eugene Hansen was a part of. I also found the movie's synopsis through IMDB.

But curiousity got the best of me and eventually found the synopsis of the movie through the WarnerBros website.

Honestly, I have been trying to form a theory as what the story will be like. But I kinda want to talk about the mix of animation and live action. This is not a unique concept. This has been done before from Who Framed Roger Rabbit to Space Jam 2. I guess much like Captain Sparklez mentioned, how would the live action look together with the blockiness of Minecraft. I mean there is one scene in the trailer of a Creeper next to Jason Momoa and honestly it doesn't look bad.

Also I have a theory as to why the Creeper looks 'hairy'. I think the better description would be, mossy or grassy even. Creepers are meant to creep towards the character until it makes that low fizzing sound warning that they are about to explode. They survive in the daylight unlike other Overworld mobs. I think the design of a Creeper is meant to look like grass blocks or moss blocks since it will blend well in night time or day time.

I have to mention Jason Momoa again cause honestly I'm not used to his costume for this movie. I've seen Slumberland and his costume there, despite it being crazy, somehow suit him. Like somehow I think he'll wear that costume at home just to chil. But his costume for Minecraft looks distracting. I don't hate it but my eyes definitely goes to him cause of how wild it looks.

Anyways, why no sightings of villagers? I think the villagers will be live action. And this is just something I hope happen, but I imagine that the villager will be played by one actor. He'll wear different costumes depending on the job and biome and make that hmmm sound throughout the whole movie. It'll be so funny if that happens!

I actually have a theory before I saw the synopsis but I think I can weave them together. Starting with the blue portal. In Minecraft, there is a spawn point, however no physical representation of it. If I remember correctly, the spawn point is usually 0,0,something coordinates.

According to the synopsis, they pulled through a mysterious portal. So I guess as one of them or all of them are playing Minecraft they were pulled in through their monitor, hence why the portal is blue (you know, blue default wallpapers and bluescreen of dea.. you get the what I mean).

I think the 4 characters entered the Mineworld either as beginners to know-it-alls to Minecraft veteran modders. Judging from Brooks' character's reaction, she has not played Minecraft prior or has never encountered the rare pink sheep.

I also suspect that they are in a modded server since Henry asked Steve who he is. Honestly, I was thinking Steve will be some form of NPC but I refuse to believe that.

Since Steve is described as an expect Minecrafter and he just appeared (or most likely just logged in), the Minecraft world they are in is made by Steve and he modded it to the point of breaking the game hence, piglins and ghast spilling over to the Overworld. Then again, piglins can go through Netherportals however they are never aggressive unless you hit them. Ghasts on the other doesn't even go through portals.

Also I think Steve is just some player named Steve that didn't bother to change skins.

Another reason why I think its a modded game is one of the items. I have never seen a craftable item that looks like 2 buckets attached together with a chain.

As for the Tesseract looking thing, it is either a Sea Lantern or a Froglight and they are using it as light source. However, since it look like they have been holding on to it since the beginning, it could be something they'll use to return home. It would be annoying to think that they don't have torches on hand when that it one of the common items player usually have.

I've seen a respond to a tweet saying the movie looks terrible, I believe it was the director (I never looked into it), I understand that this is made for kids but still I would watch this. At this point, I have no reason to hate this. I'm just curious about the story and how they will incorporate the game to the movie.

I get this whole situation feels like it is made for Minecraft fans but it seemed that the target demographic are children. Minecraft is safe to play for kids, so I guess this is going to be used to introduce the Minecraft game to kids.

But since the game came out over 10 years ago, I cannot blame Minecraft fans to feel that they are the target demographics for this movie. Some of us, have been playing Minecraft for over 10 years, so I get it.

At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if there will be a mod in the future where the movie graphics is applied on the game, either made by Minecraft dev team or a talented modder.

the more xmen movies i watch, the more i realize that the mcu sucks. by having to work to fit in with a huge, sprawling cinematic universe, the individual stories get muddled. x-men gets to have a very cohesive trilogy, because you don't need to take a break to watch a bunch of other movies in order to understand what's happening.

“Come on James!” Sam yelled at Bucky. “Pass me the damn musketeers.”

Everyone else just rolled their eyes at their childish antics.

“What are we watching today?” Clint asked Tony who had the remote in his hand.

“Since it is Y/N's first movie night, she can do the honors.” The billionaire said. The young woman in question looked at him a bit scared.

“I-” She breathed. “I don't know, you can choose guys…” She said, unsure.

“The rules are the rules.” Sam said. “We all chose the movie on our first movie night.”

“Come on,” Nat encouraged her, smiling softly. She nodded.

“Um… how about Tangled?”

“The children's movie?” Steve asked.

“Yeah... “ She said sheepishly. “It's one of my favorites.”

“Alright then,” Tony said. “Tangled it is.”

A while had passed until Wanda spoke.

“Okay but Eugene is hot.”

For a while they played the game, revealing the most ridiculous things, such as Bucky being a Lady Gaga fan and Tony watching Ted Talks every morning for motivation. As Y/N was making her way to her room a thought appeared in her head. Perhaps she found the place she belonged in.

Signs I should have known I was aro: Disney edition

I think this topic has been stressed a lot already. But here is my take, anyway.

Of course, romantic love had been, is and will always be one of the main themes in kids' movies. Why, I can never fully understand. I'll explain below how I like other themes more.

Some time ago, I did a post on the kiss/hug scenes in Rapunzel which depicts how much more I value acts of showing love that don't include kissing.

Not only those two. I have a history of hating Disney on-screen smooches. As a kid, I thought, "Well, maybe, I don't like seeing these characters kiss because it's a grownup thing."

Could you blame me? When my parents were in the room and a kissing scene appeared on the screen, they changed the channel. So my toddler brain concluded that the reason I didn't like watching kisses was because I wasn't of age to like it. Or something.

At the time, I had no idea that I was hand-picking my favorite movies by the level of romance they had in. Or lack thereof. And I was a very judgemental kid. Let's go through my original thoughts on some Disney classics.

Snow White — No. Just no. She's a child, fourteen. Marrying an older guy she doesn't even know. After he kisses her corpse. NO.

Cinderella — The age difference is a little better, I guess. So is the age of consent. But they only talked one (1) night and he relied on that slipper to find her instead of asking to meet all women and see for himself. Fairytale logic I guess. I didn't like how she called it love immediately and kissed the prince at least once that same night. Or how they got married immediately.

The Sleeping Beauty — Must I even explain? Aurora didn't even know Philip that much, had only met him once (if you exclude the "dreams"). And yet, he's her true love, the only one who can revive her corpse. Ridiculous. And yes, kissing a comatose body, ew. Also, the arranged marriage trope pisses me off, royalty or not. Aurora was engaged as a newborn baby, come on.

Mulan — Cinematic gold. I didn't know it back then, but the fact that romantic love is such a pushed-aside aspect in this movie gives me life. The songs give me life. Especially when the trio dresses as concubines and "Be a Man" plays in the background. An absolute gem, lmao. The sequel however ruined the story somewhat for me, too much lovey-dovey stuff. I like Mulan more when she's fighting than when she's acting all sappy towards Shang, sorry not sorry.

Peter Pan — Loved it, still do. But I did dislike the mermaids, the image of fangirls who are petty towards other girls. And Pan's brief "relationship" with Tiger Lily was nauseating to me. I couldn't explain it but when Pan blushed at her nose-nuzzling thing, I always pulled a face.

The Princess and the Frog — In my opinion, (remember, always my opinion): Tiana, this hard-working girl who doesn't belong to anyone, was lost to love. Well, not lost. But falling for Naveen in the course of three days? Unrealistic and kinda unnecessary. Sweet, but still. I adored the "relationship" between Ray and Evangeline more. Either way, it's a movie that I enjoyed when love wasn't that prominent on screen.

Aladdin — I love this movie because of the Genie. The relationship between Jasmine and Aladdin is meh. She forgot his face and didn't recognize him until later. Their coming together is a lot like that trope "first guy who treats her right sets the expectations and wins her heart". Usually that's a thing, not only in Disney movies but media in general. The female lead settles for the first guy that treats her right because the bar is that low. A good movie, all in all. Love how Jasmine stands up for herself at least. Not a lot of princesses fight against the objectification of women.

Pocahontas — I used to hate this movie. I didn't sit right with me: the racism in it, the manipulation, the murders. And the romance, yes. Pocahontas fell for the strange man who tickled her curiosity in the span of two days. I also hated how her father just sold her to marry Kocoum like that. I know it's tradition. Heck, that's a tradition that still goes on in my country. Maybe that's why I didn't like seeing it on screen. And Pocahontas doesn't even end up with John Smith. The second movie definitely ruined the story. So yes, she's the first princess who fell for a man in three days, TWICE. Needless to say, only the songs kept me from blacklisting the movie entirely.

The Little Mermaid — I actually loved this movie for some reason. I can't explain why, maybe it was my obsession with mermaids. Yeah, that was probably it. But I was pissed when Ariel exchanged her tail for legs. Not to mention human periods and overall, all the bad in the world, for a man she'd only seen once. As I grew up I realized just how f*cked up that story was: Ariel giving her entire lifestyle, family and identity up for a guy she hadn't even spoken to. I don't know why I loved that movie, alright? Brave — (I know this is technically Pixar, shut up) Much like the paradox with Ariel, I didn't like this movie. I can't explain it. Maybe because Merida wasn't the typical Disney princess I had been used to seeing. Now though, I ADORE that story. No, it's not because Merida knows archery... Okay, yes maybe a little. I love the aro-arrow word play, alright? Anyway, the way Merida fights against being shipped to a husband like the "tradition" I aforementioned asks her to, has always had my heart, even when I didn't like the movie. The focus on the mother-daughter relationship is special, I love it. Stellar movie.

Tangled — One of my favorite Disney movies, my favorite princess. But her relationship with Eugene.... Well. Again, three days. That's all it takes to fall in love. Classic of Disney. Not only that, but Eugene is literally the first man person Raps has ever since, besides Gothel. The bar is nonexistent for her, she would have fallen for anyone. He lied to her and she still... Well, I won't stress that any longer. Their relationship in the end is sweet, one of the few cases where we are actually shown that they would risk their lives to save each other. Respect that. Mostly, I love her magical hair and Pascal. And the guys of Snuggly Duckling.

Moana — EPIC MOVIE. The story, the culture, the character growth, the plot twist, everything! Loved it at first sight, at second and forever. Even more when I became aware that there's no romance in it. I don't think I need to say more.

Frozen — My opinions on this movie have always been changing, accompanied by mixed feelings. So the relationship between sisters was cute, but Lilo and Stitch made that more realistic. Anna's relationship with Hans, ugh. I think that for a long time I used the fact that he was the antagonist to justify my absolute hate for the way Anna "fell" for him in one evening. Again, Anna sweetheart. This is the first man you've met. The bar is nonexistent for you too. God bless Elsa for forbidding her to marry Hans. And while it's cute to think Elsa as a lesbian, she has aromantic vibes. Sorry not sorry, but she's also a God by the end of Frozen 2. Gods are beyond attraction, I said what I said.

Raya and the Last Dragon — Loved it, still do. Say what you will about "dragon Elsa". Sisu is her own character, and I adore her. And yes, I love the lack of romance in the movie. Make no mistake, I shipped Raya and Namaari from the first moment they smiled at each other. I swear on my name that I paused the movie and screamed, GAYYYY, at the top of my lungs. Luckily, I was home alone. If only Disney directors would do the right fcking thing and give me a queer main couple!! I swear I wouldn't mind the lovey-dovey romance one bit.

Of course, I've left dozens of movies out. This post is already way longer than I wanted it to be. But I think that was enough to make a point.

While I'm not romance-repulsed, seeing animated kisses (and unnecessary relationships) on screen makes me uncomfortable. As a child and as a grownup. It just doesn't sit right with me. Not to mention all these princesses who identify with their princes and specifically their relationships with said princes when they're perfect on their. Wreck it Ralph 2 made them a favor, I think, by making them work together and showing their strengths. Another movie I love.

Friendship just makes an overall better theme to apply to kids shows, my opinion. Family, work, self-discovery, mental health, happiness. These are all better themes to portray in media dedicated for children. Which is, again, my opinion.

And yes, Disney has been getting better. They've fixed the age difference and the age of consent. The female characters no longer depend on the male ones, at least not as often. They understand the assignment, alright. There are still many questionable things about Disney's reputation though, things we all choose to overlook for the sake of the good movies. But who knows? They might change. Hopefully soon we'll also have an obviously queer couple in a movie. Hope dies last.
