Guys. Don't you just ever get sad at the fucking realisation that we never know the maze runner characters real names other than a few of them. And it's like, when we write fanfics about them it's their wicked names.

Soooo, I have a silly idea!! Imagine if all of us wrote like maze runner fanfics or incorrect quotes or whatever. BUT WE MADE THE CHARACTERS HAVE NAMES OF WHAT WE THINK THEY ARE. I already know how this stuff works, but stuff like this is a big improvement for new players. X is fucking rough on your first playthrough if you don't know what you're doing, which you probably wouldn't because the game didn't teach you anything.

Them rectifying that even just for Overdrive already makes this miles better than the original and probably will be a much better experience for new players.

Oh yeah all the new story stuff is neat too.

Ok in all seriousness though, they are pulling out a lot of unused stuff and hanging plot threads from the original, with seemingly entirely new stuff as well????

Fanart! For the descent series by the amazing @birdkittenn. If you haven't read it and you love v4v, what are you doing?? Go and read it. Anyways, one particular scene was so funny to me that I decided to draw it. If you want to find out what it is, read "two machines walk into a pyramid".

I drew this piece back in August, right when I was really getting into Ultrakill; and while it's not bad at all, I can really see how my art improved in the last months (when I actually try and don't just goof around), so, yay! Please don't look too close at everything, you will find tons of mistakes. (The switched arms on V2 were done on purpose for composition purposes, tho. Please don't scream at me for that.) But it's still cute enough, so whatever.

it's wild to see people say stuff like "sansa is a politician, arya is a warrior" while not being able to point out a single political act sansa has achieved, and not being able point out any of arya's "warrior skills" that isn't the handful of fencing lessons with syrio she received for like five months max lol

Politician!Sansa and Warrior!Arya are two fascinating ends of a fanon ouroboros; Neither concept exists outside of the other and neither concepts are based on the books. This fandom is just so attached to the idea of Sansa being this incredible politician, with intelligence above every other character, that her having nothing in her own chapters to support that idea doesn't stop them. That's why Arya's intelligence, skills, and entire character arc get reduced to her being nothing but a walking, talking weapon. Like you said, her "warrior" capabilities are essentially the handful of lessons she had with Syrio where her most important + relevant lesson was how to observe her surroundings. Her only "combat" training with the FM was her defending herself with a staff when she lost her eyesight. There's nothing to suggest that she's going to be a warrior, in fact we get the exact opposite. We get constant reminders of Arya's small stature and lack of strength that prevent her from fighting/defending herself in certain situations. All her kills rely on sneak attacks/stealth and she's never been in an outright swordfight with anyone. George even refrains from calling her a warrior like Robb and Jon. Brienne and Asha are examples of female characters who are actual fighters and if you compare their chapters, you can see the difference.

But then Arya's entire existence is antithetical to fanon!Sansa's. Her Harrenhal arc is what people pretend Sansa was doing in KL, her relevance to the North gets transferred to Sansa, and her intelligence and political activeness are erased so that Sansa can shine. They'll write essays on how Sansa is the most intelligent, politically savvy character and how Dany/Jon/Tyrion's arcs only exist to highlight her own ruling arc but the second someone asks them for evidence from the books, it's crickets. I don't understand why their enjoyment of her character hinges on her being the most important/intelligent one. No Arya stan is under the illusion that she's going to be the political character or outclass Dany, Jon, or Tyrion. It's just part of her story so we acknowledge it. Arya is going to have her political arc in Braavos and Sansa is going to have her political arc in the Vale, they aren't mutually exclusive. The only issue is that some people want Sansa to be the only one with a political arc and that's not the story that George is telling.

"If I won't, who will?"

Team mate walked out of the room with the ice pack to his forehead, Caretaker knew she should've walked him to his room: to make sure he didn't fall over dead on the way there. But she was anchored, exhaustion glued her to the chair, and as the door shut she rested her head on her arms that were folded on top of the table.

The day's mission, had been a success, but a main sign of success is wounds. It means the team fought hard, means they knew what they were doing and knew what they were getting into.

But it doesn't make it any less exhausting. Constantly healing, searching, fighting, protecting, and healing some more, took a toll on her every time. An old mentor used to tell her, 'If not us, then who?' If Caretaker didn't protect her team, then who would? If Caretaker didn't fight nail and tooth to keep the reckless idiots alive, then who would? If Caretaker didn't stay up all night bandaging and stitching people up, then who would? But still, she wasn't getting any younger, new generations of people, just like she used to be, have come. Those more agile, strong, youthful, and speedy. She had to be real with herself, retirement was coming soon. Everyone knows this isn't a sustainable life, but still.

She doesn't know how long she was there, she doesn't even know if she was asleep or if she was just floating in between conscious and unconscious. To her, it didn't matter. She was able to close her eyes and just breath.

Until she heard the door open

Turning her head to face the direction of the door, she sees Youngest, standing against the door with her hand clutched around her forearm, "Is everyone alright?" She asks, in her usual quiet tone.

"Yes, why?"

She shrugs before answering, "Just wondering"

"Is everything alright?"

"Matter of fact" She starts to walk closer, which is when Caretaker sees the blood leaking from her hand, "I got this slice on my arm during a fight with a guard, I had taped it up and honestly forgot about it: until the bandage fell off. And I couldn't get it to stop bleeding."

Caretaker forced herself to be alert, and patted the spot next to her on the cushioned booth. Youngest sat down, and turned her arm over. "How long ago did the bandage fall off?" Caretaker asked, pulling out the needle and thread.

"I wanna say, maybe an hour or so ago?"

"An hour?! Why didn't you come to me then?!"

"You were treating everyone else! You know, the people with concussions and broken bones! I honestly thought I had it handled, but then...then the blood wouldn't stop!"

"Okay, okay.."Caretaker scooted closer, and essentially caged the wounded arm between her two elbows resting on the table. She could feel Youngest straining her neck so she wouldn't end up resting it on her back. "You know this will hurt, right? You've had stitches done before, correct?"

Youngest shook her head yes, so Caretaker began. Every time Caretaker slide the needle through her flesh, she heard the usual sharp intake of breath from the kid. It made her feel guilty in a way, she wished she had some sort of numbing agent to help, but she didn't. After she stitched the slice, which looked like a knife cut, she got up to get a wash rag.

She filled the small towel with warm water, "So, what happened?" Caretaker finally blurted out as she sat back down.

Youngest grimaced as she gently placed the soothing, yet cleaning rag, on the stitches, "Well, I was fighting this guy, and he pulled a knife out on me. He aimed for a slice at my face, but out of instinct, I put my arm up as a guard. Then I realized shortly after, that I had been cut."

"Well, you shouldn't have waited to tell me. This kind of wound can kill a lot easier than you think kid. It could've gotten infected, or even made you bleed out."

"I'm sorry" She mumbled

"No reason to apologize. Just keep in mind for the next time." Caretaker took a beat, then decided to add on, "And no one injury is more urgent than the other, my job is to heal the whole team. From paper cuts to bullet holes. Cause, if I don't, who will?" Caretaker pulled out a roll of bandages, "So, don't hide these things from me, much less try to handle them yourself." and they sat in silence as she continued to wrap the cut.

Then she felt a slight weight on her shoulder, Youngest had slumped down asleep. Her head fitting perfectly into the crook of Caretaker's shoulder.

She looked, peaceful. As if she wasn't just grimacing in pain from the burning sting that is healing. She looked as though she needed it: that's when Caretaker noticed her eye bags, the grease in her hair, and the scar on her lip. But she also noticed the lack of tension in her face, her muscles were relaxed, at ease. She looked..young. Caretaker almost laughed at such a mind-boggling realization; she actually looked her age when she was asleep. Which was heartbreaking, yet endearing at the same time.

The softness in her breath, and the slight sag in her mouth, made up Caretaker's mind. So she turned slightly, letting Youngest's head fall from her shoulder, to her collarbone. She eased her up from the couch and into her arms, being careful of her arm.

She walked her out of the room, down the hallway, and into Caretaker's room. She slid her under the soft covers of the bed and adjusted the pillows to make her comfortable. She didn't have Youngest's room card, and still needed to make her rounds and check to ensure that everyone was sleeping, so she'll share her bed with Youngest tonight.

Because if she won't, who will?

I did not get into Game of thrones when it first started airing. In fact, I waited until it was long past it's heyday (around s6 or 7) to check it out because the marketing and the conversation surrounding it misled me into thinking it was nothing more than "grimdark" bullshit. As one famous YouTuber sarcastically called it "hot fantasy that fucks." So, I avoided Martin's work for literal years due to the impression that I got from online reactors and show-only casuals who did as you and a few others have described as his work being fundamentally misinterpreted.

Fortunately, I overcame my hang-ups, purchased the books (even the supplementary material) and fell down an entire rabbit hole of ASOIAF which led me to recognizing that this world he spent decades creating is far more complex than what had been portrayed onscreen. Regardless of the possibility of the books remaining unfinished (which I am fine with, personally), what George has created is a genuine work of art that I imagine took a tremendous amount of time and energy. So, for so many people online to behave like children and throw tantrums because they feel entitled to him (ew) instead of ushering forth more reasonable conversations and legitimate debates about the nature of his situation frankly makes me look at this fandom with a heavy dose of skepticism.

It is truly baffling to hear even professional critics and see articles describing George as being "ungrateful" or "unprofessional" when it has been well-documented just how often authors get locked out of the adaptation process and left to the wayside as consultants. Look at what happened to Rick Riordan and Christopher Paolini! George R.R. Martin is not the only author to have qualms with how a multimillion dollar studio has mishandled his creative work, and to act like he should remain silent just because he's amassed a certain degree of wealth is quite frankly, ridiculous. He shouldn't have to settle down, be grateful, and stay quiet because the greedy corporate executives and their media drones will get offended by actual criticism that could alter the perception of the adaption being revealed as mediocre for having departed from the source material.

TLDR: authors should be allowed to speak up about their art being sacrificed for commercialization.

Thank you so much for this message, anon! This needs to be talked about more, because I don't think a lot of commentators truly understand the vulgar, late-capitalistic sheen that seems to set in and slowly poison any ASOIAF adaptation. It honestly baffles me how quick some members of this fandom are to rush to the defense of, what is essentially (let's not be kidding ourselves here), a cashgrab by a giant corporation to the detriment of the actual artist and the actual creative foundation behind it.

Why else would "MAX" (if that is even their name) make another (or several other) ASOIAF adaptations? Not to stay true to any philosophical aesthetic vision, as it has become more than apparent with Season 2, but to increase shareholder profits by appealing to the lowest common denominator. Even the basic premise has been shifted in order to address popular trends and satisfy the mindless consumer that doesn't want to engage with anything deeper than their favourite tropes, prettily packaged:

from a story about a doomed ouroborous family superimposed on the pitfalls of feudalism, with villainy and heroism to be found on both sides, it has been simplified and reduced to a narrative that exalts white feminism and disqualifies anyone who opposes its girlboss protagonist. This is Sheryl Sandberg's version of Fire and Blood.

Truly, I think Sara Hess did (unintentionally) outline it the best: "civilians don't matter in Game of Thrones". They don't matter in Game of Thrones, but they matter in A Song of Ice and Fire. The entire heart of the series is contained in Septon Maribald's speech. The writers "kind of", must have forgotten, though.
