Wukong grips Iron Fan’s hands, even as his head is bowed and his knees ache from kneeling on the stone cold slab for hours, his eyes wide and awake. “Am I not worthy of being called a savior of the people, my sister? Am I not enough anymore?”

“You are enough,” she whispers.

“But not enough for the world to stop mistreating me.”

“You are enough, Sun Wukong,” Iron Fan echoes. “Come inside,” a gentle squeeze to his hands, “it’s cold out.”

And he does.

And he wakes up, his subjects and grandchildren clinging to his body for warmth, and he lets himself smile, even if only for a moment, and breathes out calmly.

I am enough.

the fact that shakespeare was a playwright is sometimes so funny to me. just the concept of the "greatest writer of the English language" being a random 450-year-old entertainer, a 16th cent pop cultural sensation (thanks in large part to puns & dirty jokes & verbiage & a long-running appeal to commoners). and his work was made to be watched not read, but in the classroom teachers just hand us his scripts and say "that's literature"

just...imagine it's 2450 A.D. and English Lit students are regularly going into 100k debt writing postdoc theses on The Simpsons screenplays. the original animation hasn't even been preserved, it's literally just scripts and the occasional SDH subtitles.txt. they've been republished more times than the Bible

I don't really talk much about my personal life here, i put it strictly for writing purposes.

Things have been so hard lately, and I don't get the support from my parents, but the only ones who was there is my boyfriend and sister.

My boyfriend and i have been together for 10 months, and when i was having a rough time, he would always be there for me and offer help. Nowadays, we don't get to see each other that much due to circumstances, and I am struggling with my mental health.

But he always cheers me up through phone calls and texts, and just now he told me he was listening to Understand by Keshi and I cried bc life is so hard sometimes, especially now. I feel like I've hit rock bottom, but there's only someone who'd be there for you. My parents aren't supportive my whole life and they're not happy that their daughter is dating a man who's not even the same race and religion as us, but i love him and he loves me. That's all that matter.

I hope I'll get through this.

Edit: A writer's strike has not started. The Guild's membership has just authorized one in the cause that Guild reps and studio executives cannot come to an agreement on the contract.

Don't pull out the spirit holloween banners yet, is all I'm saying.

Edit 2, circa May 1, 2023: The studios have refused to negociate with the writers' guild in good faith, leaving the guild no choice but to strike.

A WGA STRIKE HAS BEGUN.

Su Daji and Erlang Shen being together is not the power couple you think it is. The way that Su Daji comes back from the dead like a crawling corpse and has her own body — granted to her by a god she despises — and now announces that she will never owe him by freeing herself of the chains that would bind her to Erlang.

So what then?

He could let her go and have her be killed by some other god (Nezha, Muzha or Jinzha) and just go on with his life; he asks her to go home with him and when she laughs and spits in his face she's knocked out and taken there anyway. Because he can't let her go out there and be killed again.

And it's toxic in the way that she doesn't pause to ask if he's okay and he doesn't laugh when she's in trouble or anything — they're toxic because she presses up against him and calls him Yang Jian a name that's been dead since he's been called Erlang Shen. Since he fought in the war. Since he watched her die.

And then she has the fucking galls to call him that and then grin wickedly because he is glaring at her and wishing he could stab her and kill her and get rid of her but instead he leans in and says, "Do not call me that unless you want to choke on blood, spirit," and then moves past her. Doesn't shove past her. Doesn't kick her or scream or shout and she hums, satisfied, and will move on to torment him during dinner.

It's not girlboss x malewife it's a fucking huntsman itching to grab his bow again and a fox taunting him by saying she's the last of her kind and her fur would look lovely on a coat and he knows it's true and he knows he wants her dead but he also knows he wants her and she knows that, too, so she abuses it and manipulates him and drapes on top of him from behind and brushes her lips against his ear—and calls him Yang Jian.

And Erlang's sworn brothers come back because Xiaotian Quan is barking loudly and terrified and they walk in to find Daji heading to bed and Erlang coated in blood of silver and red and he tells them he'll be turning in to bed early.

They share a bed.

It might as well be ruined now.

My favorite thing about fanfic is watching a writer go through all 5 stages of grief as their fluffy one-shot inexplicably becomes a 100k-word novel.

Broke: Acknowledging that a character who is an objectively terrible person is also a complex and intentionally well thought out individual with different levels of nuance you can empathize with in some ways while not in others is immediately “woobifying” or “poor little meow meowifying” them.

Woke: “This character is a bad person” and “this character is still a person” are two statements that can, should and do coexist and admitting that they exhibit nuance and depth and are more than just their bad actions doesn’t immediately excuse or condone their bad actions or mean that you’re ignoring or trying to soften the canonical version of the character.

Bespoke: That’s the whole point, that’s always been the point, to be made to empathize with horrible people so you can understand that they can be anyone, that bad people can be likeable, can be interesting, can be human, are human, and it’s scary to think about all the ways they’re just like you and all the ways they’re just like everything you hate, forcing the use of critical skills in media analysis, forcing a confrontation of the duality of man.
