WAITTT, I just saw ur reply to my previous comment. I didn't like Tim too (lmao). The debates between Tim and Damian fans can (and do) get so annoying that I just started disliking his character (not the greatest). Reading Red Robin on a whim was when I started to warm up to his character, he was just some weird dude. The sentiment about him being a chew toy...so real, and perfectly captures how I feel about him. He is so cringe-fail to me.

To touch upon Red Robin relationships...I wish I could peek into the writers' brains and conduct experiments to begin to understand what they were trying to accomplish...Tam, then Lynx II? Rekindling moments with Steph, and I always forget the last girl's name... I just never understood why they thought giving him so many love interests was necessary for the plot (he is quite literally spiraling, absolute rock bottom, can not go any lower, and yet forced so many women into his life; were they expecting me not to feel bad for them?). On top of that whole mess, the last few issues were like a fever dream, I can not properly summarize them for the life of me if asked.

On a side note, Circle K has also inspired me to pick back up my reading on Steph. I started in the summer, and the summer session (I completely forgot I signed up for classes?) completely ruined that for me...

Very random but, what are your thoughts on WFA? Everyone on Twitter is fairly convinced it's absolute garbage. I never read it myself, but I see complaints about characterization all the time. It also seems to be a lot of people's introduction to Batman-associated characters and content, so I can understand why people are upset if it truly is inconsistent with canon writing.

the thing that bothers me is that none of it was EVER addressed. for sure it was a questionable decision on the writers’ part but none of them had the thought to maybe address the fact that he was flip-flopping so badly? i consider tam to be the strongest out of all of them (as in the one with the most chances to have been with him) and even tim acknowledges that at some points and YET. he kept having those weird moments with lynx. like obviously he and tam weren’t necessarily in a relationship but There Was Something There and of course while tam remains ‘loyal’ to him, tim just gets to mess around with other people… and then when he needs something he relies on tam’s affection to help him out… and then of course the way their falling out was set up was sooooo obvious and i don’t think certain plot decisions are necessarily Bad when they’re obvious but they were clearly gunning for the usual ‘superhero withholds important information from the civilian love interest and they break up’ and i just feel like There were so many OTHER things they could’ve had a falling out over 😭😭😭😭 like Come on…

STEPHANIE MY BELOVED <3333 once you find the time (and i hope you do so you can rest! good luck with your classes <3) i would HIGHLY recommend batgirl vol 3, it’s her batgirl run and it makes up for all the shit that went on in war games (which i didn’t actually read, well i did read some of it, mostly steph’s parts, which i wouldn’t recommend because it is… heartwrenching) and it’s just SOOOOO good i have SOOO many thoughts on it. one of my favorite runs i’ve ever read!!!

umm i’m kind of in the middle on wfa. i read it when it initially came out and it was pretty neat! i liked the art for one. but i’ve stopped keeping up since then. as an elseworlds comic with no bearing on current canon, it can be fun! and it has some things i would like in canon (like them keeping babs as oracle, when current canon refuses to do so), but thats hmmm probably it? and honestly it’s not totally my taste, if only because characterization can be a bit iffy (there was one moment with jason early on that kind of turned me off a bit because. i’m sorry. He would not say that. but in fairness to wfa we have a lot of that going on around now in current comics! wrt him, dick, tim, etc) and well. i like drama HAHA. i have also seen that it is the ‘easy way’ to get into the bats and yeah, there’s nothing wrong exactly with that being someone’s introduction, but it should be kept in mind that it’s not canon and things aren’t like that at all in current canon at all! but yeah not everyone does that and it does admittedly get kind of annoying 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

it is kind of funny in that initially wfa wasn’t a true representation of the ‘batfam’ (at the time it was coming out. i think anyway) and more of an ideal glossy one that, well, ignores a lot to get it to that point. but now we seem to be having that go on in current comics, at least with their attempts to try and absolve bruce of his abuse (which i think they are doing in a dumb way that does absolve him of responsibility and agency and thus makes it. well. redundant. because he isn’t owning up to it and it ignores years of him doing it) so it is kind of. equally bad. except that wfa is elseworlds so it honesty can get away with it but uhhh. current comics don’t have an excuse and that’s. well. Hngh. kind of creates double the bad effect but ANYWHO!!!!!!

Yeah!! Agh, the outside pov of Nightwing sprinting over to Batman and somehow knowing how to unlock the complex series of clasps and switches on his armor in perfect sequence. He doesn’t get shocked, he pries open that chest plate like he’s been doing it his entire life. He opens Batman’s belt and pulls out bandages without needing to guess which compartment had first aid supplies. He grabs Batman’s wrist comm and knows how to use the gauntlet buttons to call for an evac. He orders Superman around like he’s taken on Batman’s authority in the interim (he has) and Superman listens without question. He is Batman’s second in command, and no one in YJ can fully process that revelation before they’re evac’d back to Gotham.

in the tags of that one fab five poly post you mentioned that you are a core four enthusiast and I’d love to hear if you have any Kon headcanons or just any yj headcanons in general, I love those little guys

!!! i love Kon so much, he's one of my fave guys. i actually got into the 90s era of comics to read his solo run, YJ(98), and then i just spiralled from there. i've got lots of headcanons about both Kon and YJ

for Kon specifically, i'm really attached to the headcanon of him and Power Girl being friends. i think the idea of them bonding over imposter syndrome over feeling like Kryptonians who don't neatly fit into the Superfam would be very crunchy. it's my Kara Zor-L stan showing, but i've got a lot of fic ideas where they end up close. similarly: i also think a friendship between Kon and Bizarro could be fun, both being clones of Superman made by Lex.

for a YJ headcanon: i hold FIRMLY to the belief that Bart knew TIm's secret identity before YJ even formed he just. never mentioned it bc no one asked him. the way they meet in Robin Plus Impulse, i see no world where Bart doesn't figure it out. i think it makes for a hilarious concept that Tim's identity real is a big deal and he uses the whole fake name Alvin Draper and Bart just blurts out that he's Tim Drake. i know we all love TimKon, but I'm a bit of a TimBart truther and i think it could be a fun little moment for them.

back to Kon: this is less of a headcanon and more of just a thought: but i wish we had more content about the Ravers, Kon's team before YJ. i won't everytime i think about Superboy & the Ravers i have to look it up to convince myself i didn't hallucinate that entire comic. but it was so fun. there was a road trip arc. a canon queer character who's arc was handled shockingly well for the 90s. (and the homophobic character was the one who got the unhappy ending while the gay man got to be happy with a bf?? revolutionary.) i personally believe Hero Cruz was Kon's gay awakening. i won't elaborate on this. anyway i wish we saw more of Kon thinking about this team after YJ formed and maybe missing some of his old party friend losers.

also on the note of Kon, i love any exploration of his canon experiences with being groomed by just about every woman he "dated" in the 90s. i'm such a fan of when a character becomes hypersexual to cope with their trauma that they haven't realized even is trauma. and i think Kon fits that bar perfectly. the first real attention he got outside of being attached to Superman's legacy was sexual attention from women, so of course he would lean into that and not realize how fucked up it was until years later. i love when it shapes his relationships in fanfiction, especially if he doesn't realize it. whether it's Tana Moon or Knockout or just about any other woman, there's a lot of material to explore.

Kon is one of the few characters i will venture out of pre-Flashpoint for because i think his complex over Jon Kent has the potential to be really complex and fun. i think everyone misunderstands Kon and Clark's relationship (i blame the Young Justice cartoon. i've had arguments you wouldn't believe over Kon on TikTok-) as father/son and that Clark is constantly pushing Kon away in favor of Jon, and that's just not true. the issue is that Kon was *forgotten* by the timeline shifting without him bc he was off on Gemworld. and to me, that's more interesting than making Clark some kind of absent father to him. it's an issue of the world he remembers not existing anymore and most of the world not remembering him either, and now there's a new Superboy replacing him. idk man that's fun. i have a lot of thoughts about the feelings Kon would have about Jon, wondering if the timeline shift was meant to "correct" Superboy to make a version of Superboy that was meant to exist and Kon wasn't. this very much ties into my thoughts on how he and Power Girl would have a lot to bond over, feeling displaced in a world that doesn't need them. that's where Kon's identity issues stem from. that said, i always prefer a Kon who actually gets along pretty well with the Superfam, including Clark and Jon. most of his conflict is internal, not external. it's what makes him crunchy.

more YJ headcanon: i think the shift from the Teen Titans to YJ from the perspective of the mentors is fascinating. YJ got a lot more freedom and less supervision, it's like how parents don't try as hard when they have more kids. so i love the headcanon that half the time the League has no damn clue what YJ is up to. they played baseball to save the universe? yeah they never mentioned it to their mentors. no one asked. the lack of supervision, sans a robot, makes them incredibly creative with how they solve problems. they don't approach anything traditionally because no one is properly guiding them. since they're a new generation of sidekicks, most of them holding a mantle that was passed down to them (or at the very least they're a new generation of a superhero family) it holds a bit of imposter syndrome. all of them are internally panicking 90% of the time while trying to appear collected around each other. they're actively a collective disaster because of it.

personally, i view the Core Four as more of a queerplatonic polycule than a romantic one? like i think it's fun to explore polycule dynamics where it's not actually everyone dating everyone, but far more complex of some people dating, some people are familial, some people are fucking, and we don't even know what those two have going on. it's complicated, you know? messy and codependent. i don't see them as a neat polycule whatsoever. it's like an on and off again relationship but with four people that also occasionally includes others. i'm personally a fan of the potential of the Young Justice (2019) team being a polycule except none of them have any clue who's dating who. every single one of them *will* give you a different answer. half of them aren't even aware of the other's sexualities. Jinny has come out as a lesbian like four times to her own polycule. i'm a big fan of this team and i wish there was more fan content for it.

random smaller headcanon: i do think Kon can cook and i think no one believes him when he tells them. bc the issue isn't he can't cook, it's that he never has food in his fridge or pantry to cook with. that boy was raised with Ma and Pa Kent, he can make a *mean* hotdish with whatever he finds. just don't expect him to ever repeat a recipe bc he will never have that exact combination of ingredients in his kitchen again. he is however, horrible at baking bc cooking is an art and baking is a science and you will never catch him following a recipe in his life.

i think Kon regularly uses his TTK to save his teammates during fights and just. never mentions it. like in small ways, such as slightly moving flying debris that's about to hit them, making a villain's punch have more resistance so it doesn't hit as hard, slightly pulling them out of the way. no one knows for like. *years*. i'm very obsessed with pushing TTK to the limits and exploring how it makes Kon hyperaware of his surroundings. it's a literal sixth sense and i think he's passively always aware of everything, even when he's relaxing. no one realizes just how much control he exerts over a fight. which means he's holding himself back most of the time, and in my opinion for the reasons of being afraid of himself, and afraid of the Luthor parts of him. so he just. balances a fight in little, unnoticeable ways.

it's one of my headcanons that if Kon started openly dating Tim Drake, Lex would immediately try to get closer to Kon bc not only would he approve of Kon dating someone from high society, but he'd want to try to use Tim's power within his family's company and Bruce's company as leverage. of course it wouldn't work, but it'd be a fun mind game if Lex vs Tim with Kon just stuck in the middle. i have a vague fanfic idea for this I'll probably never write.

this is a cursed headcanon: but i believe Kon has an incest kink. the number of times he's canonically expressed incestual feelings (both on purpose and on accident) is not on purpose in the text, but the fact it keeps happening means i'm personally just going to run with it. i think KonJayTim is fun bc even if Tim and Jason don't see each other as siblings, Kon would make it a kink anyway. i will leave you on that cursed note.

🐺once she actually processes that’s it’s YOU she scurries away whimpering in fear like you’ve got a gun. you, being fucking terrified, SPRINT back to the cabin. you don’t tell anyone what you saw because if you did what would shauna do? she’d probably feed on you too, you thought.

🐺when you woke up in the morning everything was normal, or about as normal as it could get in the wilderness. shauna was sleeping where she normally did, not covered in hair or blood dripping down her chin.

🐺she’s the first one to say something, “look, i know you saw me last night. you can’t tell anyone.” you just nod, fascinated that she’s so chill about the situation.

🐺so, you keep your mouth shut. you start noticing more of her wolfish traits. becoming more possessive over her things, feeling less inclined to do what she’s been asked, getting angry and storming off at the smallest things.

🐺her worst days were when the team were starting their menses. just being around of any of you would drive her fucking INSANE!!! so, during said time, she’d sneak off to her own secret little place away from the cabin to call herself down. she even started to try and keep track of when another full moon was so she could feed again.

🐺after a good feed, she wouldn’t eat anything for a day or two after because of how much she ate. the team noticed and asked her about it. and she tried to act SO casual about it like, “i dunno. just not hungry, i guess.” which wasn’t entirely a lie

what was super interesting in this last episode was how shauna in labor had to be grounded in this very real physically painful kind of horror while everyone else got to submit themselves to like, faith in the wilderness and mysticism or whatever (or coach ben just literally pretending to not be there) and it created this super clear divide between shauna and everyone else. they were all so scared for her but they got to deal with it by like spilling blood on animal bones or whatever and she had to deal with her fear and pain in a way that was kind of deeply alone. and at the end when she's literally lost it and she just keeps saying she could hear her baby crying and "why can't you hear him crying?" shes all alone in that.

this whole episode was just like. man. poor shauna like truly poor fucking shauna. she's allowed to do whatever she wants forever. idc. she gets a pass.

her being unable to really connect with and deeply love her daughter in the way she feels she's "supposed" to makes so much sense after this. i mean i understood it before with the knowledge that she probably lost the first baby but actually seeing it happen was just so fucking brutal fr.

but yeah this is definitely an event that is going to deeply shape the timeline and everything that happens after the fact. for everything they do to survive the wilderness after this point, we will know that it would've been different if the baby had lived. for literally all of them (lottie was so right that they were all thinking of the baby as theirs, not just shauna's). the versions of themselves they wouldve tried to be for the baby (maybe they would've tried to be better, maybe kinder to each other, maybe less willing to commit to the wilderness hysteria and the violence) is gone.

It’s clear that both were outliers of the group and while they got along with others on the team. I get the vibe that they always kept a distance so nobody got to really “know” them and that it was on purpose. Neither girl has a best friend pre-crash. There was no one they were eager to sit with on the flight. They just sort of ended up where they were. And maybe they sensed this in one another and it’s why they seemed to be drawn to each other’s gravitational pull.

So many people misunderstood Lottie’s character. Lottie doesn’t bask in attention like Jackie or even Van (through her class clown escapades) Lottie just wants to fade into the crowd and not take up much space. Nat literally says that Lottie doesn’t judge or talk shit in the very first episode. To me Lottie kinda has this self deprecating nature. I’m always reminded of this quote from the Hunger games:

No one really needs me," he says, and there's no self pity in his voice. It's true his family doesn't need him. They will mourn him, as will a handful of friends. But they will get on. Even Haymitch, with the help of a lot of white liquor, will get on. I realize only one person will be damaged beyond repair if Peeta dies. Me.

Lottie sees all of this worth and potential in the other girls (especially Natalie) and not much in herself. She’s been taught since she was a little girl that because of her mental illness she is broken and a burden. So she gives and she sacrifices repeatedly. Like, her goal in the wilderness is not to survive but to help others survive. When she comes home her feelings on her worth are somewhat vindicated. Her parents can’t handle her as she is, they never could and once again she is carted around to Doctor after doctor to be fixed until she’s shipped off to Switzerland where they leave her there for 15 years.

And while Nat didn’t want to get too close to people so they could take a magnifying glass to her life and trauma, she wasn’t antisocial. We see Nat participate within the group. Going to the parties, group hugs, locker room dances, choreographed dances in the cabin, the shooting competition, the seance. i’ve said stuff like this in other places to, but lottie’s household and mental illness are so… skimmed over? besides jokes about schizophrenia bc we can’t miss those!!! but it very clearly affected her a lot and the fanon lottie is just… not even lottie anymore imo.

plus lottie doesn’t even dress that preppy/popular. girl is living in the docs. i know @lais-a-ramos had some really interesting takes on how this could reflect certain music cultures!! i’ll let lais speak on that if she wants to though, i’m not as knowledgeable.
