The trans masc struggle of being addressed as Miss or Ma'am continues...at Arby's...

Usually I try to give people the benefit of the doubt, they've probably not interacted with many trans people, they're just trying to be polite (especially when they're in customer service roles).

So I walk into the Arby's, and it's a real run down Arby's too, and I'm heading up to the counter to order. Behind the counter is a larger middle aged man who appears to be the manager. And he is already eyeing me, visibly confused. We both just stand there for a few seconds. And then he gives me the most obvious look up and down my body, not once, not twice, but three times like he's checking me out. And then proceeds to say "what can I get you today? M-m-miss?"

My dude, some respect would be nice. You could have skipped the ogling and gendered address and just taken my order. It's a fucking Arby's, act your wage and drop the formality. There's no tip jar, no screen for tips at the register, and I've never heard of someone tipping there, and you're already the manager, so what incentive do you have to try and go above and beyond? And even if you had gendered me correctly, the ogling already ruined it.

And I'd like #13, the Reuben, just the sandwich, no combo.

Going to the mechanic as a trans masc is dysphoria inducing on the same level as a pap smear (in my opinion). Mechanics take the gold medal in the misgendering Olympics. I could walk in scratching my non existent nuts, belch like Shrek being exorcised and introduce myself as Guy Manly and they'd still address me as ma'am at the beginning and end of every sentence.

I've wanted to play d&d for years but never had time or a group of people and have been intimidated because it seems like so much to learn. My friend invited me to join her boyfriend's next campaign and I've gotten along with him pretty well in the past. He offered to help with creating my first character and asked about any triggers I may have or other challenges from my mental illness and neurodivergence.

One of my biggest challenges as an AuDHDer is finding openings to speak up in group settings. I often miss opportunities and get repeatedly talked over. I brought this up with him and was basically told how this could be a problem (which I already knew and was hoping he would have ideas how to accommodate for it) and asked if I still wanted to join.

I'm finding this really disheartening and I'm not sure what to do. I don't know enough about d&d to know what type of accommodations to suggest. I want to play but I can't ignore my support needs. If I drop out my friend will want to know why and I don't want to strain our friendship by calling her boyfriend ableist.

I know ttrpgs are massively popular in the neurodivergent community so it should be possible for me to play and enjoy. If anyone has suggestions or tips they'd be greatly appreciated

I hate when bosses tell you "if you're too sick to come into work then you need to be resting." It's so ableist. It completely ignores that contagion doesn't equal severity. Its very paternalistic and doesn't allow for reasonable accommodations. Thinking like this is part of why disabled and chronically ill people have a hard time keeping jobs.

If an employee is telling you they can be productive while caring for themselves and protecting others, it's not your place as a supervisor to prevent them from working.

seriously, teenagers are the absolute hardest group to engage at most libraries & we'll often organize programs that absolutely no one will show up to & it sucks. if you go up to a public librarian & say "hey, some friends & i want to do this thing. does that sound like a feasible teen program for the library?" most people will move heaven & earth to pull it off for you because we know there's an interest in our community. we will go balls to the freaking wall to make it happen

do you want a cosplay contest? a video game tournament? a free escape room? bring it up to the library. it's not a burden or an annoyance at all. it'll be like christmas came early for us

I bought my Mera Luna ticket because LOTL and deine Lakaien are two of my absolute favorite bands and the rest of the lineup slaps hard...I'm from the Midwest and have never left north America...not sure how but I'm making this happen

My ass is going to see Lord of the Lost in NYC in September. I splurged for VIP lounge tickets for myself and my bestie because I want to be able to somewhere maybe less crowded as an option. Also she might get to meet the band and the thought of her squealing like a tiny child being told they get to do The Thing They've Always Wanted is extremely funny and wholesome. Plus I get to fulfill a teenage dream; buy some shitkickers and actually get to wear them out.
