Monsters, Humans, & Hybrids

This applies to all our UTDR AUs. Its a lore dump regarding the different species. Any red categories are speaking of monsters that went extinct (Giants, Magicless Humans, Vampires, and Trolls.)

Note: Plants have no souls (as stated by Alphys's notes in Undertale), however we headcanon that animals have souls. They have the least amount of magic of any other living being.

Boss Monsters: a rare species of monster, born with a soul powerful enough that it persists after death (if only for a few seconds.) They stop aging upon reaching adulthood, and only continue aging when they have a biological child, as their powerful magic flows into their offspring. If the child dies, the parents stop aging once again. They can live for centuries (unless they are murdered/killed by events unrelated to aging.) They are goat-like in appearance, with horns and long-droopy ears, while also being lion-like with fangs and paws. They are anthropomorphic and stand on two legs. They are natural users of fire-magic. Boss Monsters form babies through pregnancy.

Mammalian Monsters: a categorization of any monster that has mammal-like traits. Mammalian Monsters form babies through pregnancy.

Reptilian Monsters: a categorization of any monster that has reptile-like traits. Reptilian Monsters form babies through eggs.

Amphibian Monsters: a categorization of any monster that has amphibian-like traits. Amphibian Monsters form babies through eggs.

Bug Monsters: a categorization of any monster that has bug-like traits. Bug Monsters form babies through both eggs and pregnancy, depending on the traits their subspecies has.

Aquatic Monsters: a categorization of any monster that has fish-like or other aquatic-animal traits (not including aquatic mammals, as they fall under the Mammalian Monster category.) Aquatic Monsters form babies through both eggs and pregnancy, depending on what traits their subspecies has.

Avian Monsters: a categorization of any monster that has bird-like traits. Avian Monsters form babies through eggs.

Undead Monsters: a categorization of any monster that has physical traits associated with death. This includes Skeletons, Revenants, Ghouls, Mummies, and Ghosts. Undead Monsters form babies through both eggs and pregnancy, depending on what traits their subspecies has.

Elemental Monsters: a categorization of any monster that has physical traits associated with elements. This includes Fire Nymphs, Water Nymphs, Earth Nymphs, Wind Nymphs, and Forest Nymphs. Elemental Monsters form babies through pregnancy.

Giantous Monsters (Giants): a categorization of rare monsters that grew to be gigantic, ranging from the size of a house to the size of a mountain. Giants formed babies through both eggs and pregnancy, depending on what traits their subspecies had. They went extinct during the war.

Chimerian Monsters: a categorization of any monster that has parents from separate categorizations, and in result gained multiple traits. For example, an Avian Monster and Aquatic Monster creating a child together, may result in a Chimerian Monster that has both avian and aquatic traits. Chimerian Monsters may form through both eggs and pregnancy, depending on what traits their parents passed down.

Magicless Humans: the first kind of humans, who had yet to form magic. They had souls, but their souls resembled animals in nature, not having developed specific traits yet, leaving them weak in comparison to monster souls.

Magical Humans: as humans evolved, their magic developed to mimic Monsters’ souls. Eventually, it developed past Monster souls, evolving them to be magically stronger than monsters, and leading them into their seven soul types (Determination, Bravery, Justice, Kindness, Patience, Integrity, and Perserverance.) Every human soul has a little bit of all these seven traits, but they have one main trait, which determines the color of their soul and type of magic available to them.

Vampires: the result of Magicless Humans crossbreeding with monsters. Vampires were human-appearing, with traits such as jagged teeth with two sharp fangs, slitted pupils, and claws. They were the natural occurring in-between branch of monsters and humans, making them the ancestral middle-point of when the two races began to genetically split off. Magical humans didn’t exist yet, and Vampires were the “prototype” of magical humans. Vampires’ bodies were sensitive to heat (leading them to avoid sunlight). They struggled with magical dehydration as a result of their soul’s formation (which later formed into the ‘drinking blood’ horror tales.) They turn to dust when they die (which formed the ‘turns to dust when in sunlight’ myth.)

Witchlets: human-appearing. They rely on both physical matter and magic. Whether their body dusts or not depends on how the Witchlet’s body manifests.

Elves: human-appearing. They rely fully on magic. They turn to dust when they die.

Beastials: monster-appearing. They rely on both physical matter and magic. Whether their body dusts or not depends on how the Beastial’s body manifests.

Weremonsters: monster-appearing. They rely fully on physical matter. Their body stays intact when they die.

Fairies: has a mixture of human and monster traits in appearance. Whether their body dusts or not depends on how the Fairy’s body manifests. There are eleven subtypes.

Fauns: Fairies that are a combination of a Boss Monster and human.

Mammoids: Fairies that are a combination of Mammalian Monster and human.

Reptoids: Fairies that are a combination of Reptilian Monster and human.

Huphibians: Fairies that are a combination of Amphibian Monster and human.

Arthroids: Fairies that are a combination of Bug Monster and human.

Merfolk: Fairies that are a combination of Aquatic Monster and human.

Avirians: Fairies that are a combination of Avian Monster and human.

Zombies: Fairies that are a combination of Undead Monster and human.

Humentals: Fairies that are a combination of Elemental Monster and human.

Trolls: Fairies that are a combination of Giantous Monster and human.

Chimeras: Fairies that are a combination of more than one type of Monster and human (example: an Undead Monster + Amphibian Monster + Human offspring, or a Chimerian + Human offspring.)

Reapers: can be human-appearing, monstrous, or a combination (like Fairies). They are extremely rare, with less than a dozen cases recorded in history. Their souls are maldeveloped, and incapable of releasing magic unless trained to do so. They attempt to project their magic onto other peoples’ souls, but due to their malfunctioning, end up absorbing those souls’ magic, further overwhelming them. If the Reaper is not taught to release magic on command, they will end up building up until their soul inevitably explodes. They rely on both physical matter (such as organs & bones) and magic. Their bodies always dust.

Monsters: Reproduction & Relationships

This applies to all our UTDR AUs!

Its a long lore-dump, but honestly, we're really proud of the details ^^ A lot of thought was put into this.

Reproduction:

Monsters of any gender and sex can create children together. Sexual activity is not required to create children, however many monsters have sex for fun with their romantic partners.

The first (and most common) way for monsters to create a child is to perform a magical ritual, using any excess magic produced by their souls. All souls involved temporarily merge together, and create a new mini-soul, which attaches itself to whatever parent has better health and/or less LOVE. That is how monster pregnancy/egg-creation begins and how monster babies are made.

The ritual can also be performed between monsters and a human, but humans cannot perform this with other humans, since only Monsters are born with the magic that makes the ritual possible.

The second way is by mixing their souls together. Mixing of souls is usually only done if a disabled Monster needs to borrow magic from a loved one, which is a very serious medical procedure. It usually can be done without resulting in pregnancy of any kind…however, If the amount of magic being used is not being monitored properly, excess magic may result in an unexpected pregnancy as an after-effect. It is the only way Monsters have had accidental pregnancies.

Because sexual activity is not required to create a child, a decent number of monsters choose to have children together platonically. Friends, siblings, and cousins are known to create children together and co-parent.

Up to five parents can create a child together. More than that is risky and sometimes even five is too much. Its best for monsters to be medically checked before trying to create a child to see how much magic output they have. If their magic output combined is too high or too low, creating a baby could cause disabilities and deformities to grow in the child.

Pregnancy/Eggs:

Whether or not a monster lays eggs or gets pregnant depends on their monster-type.

Boss Monsters, Mammalian Monsters, and Elemental Monsters get pregnant and give live births.

Amphibian Monsters, Avian Monsters, and Reptilian Monsters lay eggs that will hatch their offspring.

Bug Monsters, Aquatic Monsters, Undead Monsters, Giantous Monsters, and Chimerian Monsters can have either eggs or get pregnant, depending on what traits their subspecies has.

When a monster baby is forming, a shield is created to protect the soul. This can be seen in monster-eggs, as the shells are made-of this shield. Rarely, it can be seen in monsters capable of pregnancy. For example, mammalian Skeletons (such as Sans/Papyrus, a humanoid-skeleton) do not have a natural stomach in place, so the magical-shield presents itself as a make-shift stomach.

Menstruation:

All monsters (regardless of their sex) “menstruate” their excess magic every month upon hitting puberty (unless they are infertile.) Monster menstruation is more painful than human menstruation, due to their menstruation being tied to their soul rather than an organ, which is the biggest downside to monster reproduction.

Symptoms of monster menstruation may include paralyzing cramps, muscle contractions (or pseudo-muscle contractions, for monsters that don’t have muscles), soul contractions, vomiting, delusions, dissociation, derealization, migraines, and physical illness. Monster menstruation typically lasts four-five days.

Attraction/Relationships:

Because Monster's soul traits are hope, compassions, and love, the way they perceive and enact relationships is oftentimes different from humans.

For one, polyamory is more common in Monsters than it is in humans. About 50% of monsters are polyamorous, 20% are ambiamorous, and 30% are monogamous.

Another thing that is more common in Monsters is queer-attraction. 70% of monsters are non-straight (gay, bi, pan, omni, poly, abro, etc) or non-allosexual (aro, ace, greyro, greyace, etc).

Platonix/Plataro (Queerplatonic)

Queerplatonic relationships (QPRs) are more common for Monsters to partake in than humans.

Monsters, however, were unaware of the human-given title "queerplatonic" (as they were underground when this term was created), so they titled these bonds as "Platonix" or "Plataro" relationships.

Soul-Binds

Soul-binds can be formed between lovers, queerplatonic partners, friends, and family members. It is the act of binding souls, for a lifelong partnership between two (or more) monsters (and humans may partake in it as well.)

Soul-binds can be described as a “platonic marriage” when put in the context of friendship/family members for humans understanding. But many lovers/QPRs do it as well, as it creates further intimacy.

People with soul-binds oftentimes share homes and create children. Soul-binds result in the ability to share emotions, memories, and thoughts through their souls' connections. Communicating through soul-binds is also possible, so 2+ people with a soul-bind can have conversations even when miles away.

Unlike QPRs, Soul-Binds can be performed between relatives. QPRs between relatives, on the other hand, would be incestual, as they are more than platonic, and may include intimate acts such as dates, intense kissing, and sometimes even sexual behavior, which is unacceptable between relatives.

HAPPY UT ANNIVERSARY!

Its been seven years! What an amazing time. Wish we could have done something for this year, but life has bit us in the ass and we haven't had the time or energy for it. Hopefully next year we will, though!

Personal Update

Hey everyone. Sorry we've been gone for so long and so little has progressed. A lot of bullshit has gone down this last month. We aren't going to get too deep into it because its personal, but basically some legal shit happened, and in order to pay for a lawyer we need to sell the house and move. So thats what our family has been doing: packing, cleaning, looking for a new house, trying to put this one up on the market, all the while dealing with the legal crazy stuff going on.

That being said, we will be posting more stuff at our own pace. Please be patient with us, as a lot is going on.

this isn’t related to the DH universe (well, Papyrus is autistic in all our AUs, but thats not the point) but we still want to reblog it here because its a very important fic to us personally as a system diagnosed with autism.

Acceptance

(This is part of the canon story for Underfamily. Specifically, this story takes place on the first night when Frisk moved into the skelebros house.)

CW: sensory overload, internalized ableism.

We felt like writing this after receiving a very ableist ask (of which we deleted.) We have diagnosed autism, and do not appreciate ableism being directed towards anyone, regardless of whether they are fictional. There is nothing wrong with being on the neurodivergent spectrum.

Now! Onto the story.

Frisk couldn't sleep. The couch creaked beneath them with every toss and turn, stiff and frigid in a way they enjoyed for sitting, but not for lying down. Their blanket was too light to give them the stimulation their autism required for proper sleep, nor the warmth they desired in a house surrounded by snow.

But, above all else, they couldn't sleep because of the noise ringing within their mind. Loud, ringing voices, which gave them a migraine.

During the day, it wasn't too hard to deal with. During daytime, there were people to listen to other than the ones inside of their brain. Puzzles to be done. Homework. Cooking. Cleaning. Activities to slip into, to fixate on and forget the world.

But at night, they were too tired to put that effort in, which led them to hear the voices louder than ever.

"Why are they staying with those stupid skeletons anyways? This place is too cold! They could have gone back to The Ruins! Bothered the lady there until she let them back in!"

A gasp could be heard, and the girl Frisk could hear speaking in their mind- Angela - yelped, as if being smacked.

"Papyrus and Sans have been nice to us! You're so ungrateful!"

Frisk made a shushing noise and covered their ears. Slowly, they felt a bubble of shame rise in their chest and lodge itself in their lungs, as they realized how stupid that was. The sound was coming from inside them - they couldn't just block it out.

"...c-can we s-stop arguing p-please? I-I think F-Frisk is t-tired..."

Frisk praised Malo internally, their soul singing a song of gratefulness. He always was the most considerate of their friends.

...

Or, at least...he used to be...before...

...They pulled the thin blanket closer to their chest, hands trembling. Grief bubbled inside of them, washing through them like waves. The tears that fell from their eyes were like the grief sprinkling out with each time it crashed against the shore of their soul.

"SHIT! We made them cry again!" "You mean YOU made them cry!" "p-please...G-Gela, Lulu...y-you aren't helping..."

Frisk desperately squeezed the blanket in their hands repeatedly, trying to use it as a stim toy. But the materiel wasn't right. It didn't squish right. It was too rough...

Frisk suddenly realized just how badly the liquids on their face felt. It was their own tears, they knew that, but it was so gross, gross, gross, gross, they needed it off now.

They tried using their hands, but the teardrops only smeared across their skin, sending a shudder down their spine. The people in their head were arguing, but they were too focused on getting rid of the disgusting tears to care.

They tried to use the blanket, but quickly realized just how much of a mistake it was. The scratchy roughness of the materiel against their face made them yelp, and they tossed the blanket off the couch, bursting to their feet.

They were shaking, their arms and legs were flapping and stomping due to overstimulation, and their face was still wet. It was all too much. They were breathing too sharply and quickly.

They needed something heavy and tight wrapped around them, and they needed it fast. But God forbid they awake and bother the wonderful skeletons who had so kindly allowed them to sleep on their couch.

So, instead of going upstairs, they were digging around the living room. Trying to find anything to help. The couch cushions? No, too big. The spare jackets Papyrus had given them earlier that day? Even all together, they just weren't as heavy as a weighted blanket.

Frisk's vision was getting blurry. They weren't getting enough air in their lungs, and were going to pass out. They shakily forced themself to sit on the floor, their entire body trembling.

Distantly, their friends ...the people in their head were screaming at them, but they couldn't make out what they were saying over their gasping for air, the ringing in their ears, and the pounding of their heartbeat.

Passing out on the floor, with jackets, blankets, and couch cushions scattered around was going to be so embarrassing to explain to the skeleton brothers in the morning.

Their vision was going black, when suddenly, they felt themself get pulled into a tight skeletal hug. The tightness of it was just right. Perfect. It made their body and mind loosen up, each second it went by.

"CAN YOU HEAR ME, SMALL HUMAN??"

The tears on their face were gently wiped off by soft gloves, which they knew belonged to Papyrus. They shakily wrapped their arms around his spine, hoping it would send him the message to not let go. His soul radiated warmth, which Frisk happily bathed in, considering how cold they were.

"I WILL TAKE THAT AS A YES!"

His gentle gloved-hands fell on both sides of their cheeks, lifting their face up towards him. Their vision was cleared enough to just barely make out his kind smile.

Guilt struck through them and twisted in their stomach as they realized their stupid freakout probably woke him up.

"...sorry..." Frisk just barely managed to whisper. It felt wrong, forcing any noise to come out of their throat, especially words. But it would have felt worse not apologizing to him. They always were such a bother...

"APOLOGY NOT ACCEPTED!!"

Papyrus must have noticed how Frisk's lip quivered upon his rejection, so he quickly cleared his throat and clarified.

"BECAUSE!! YOU HAVE NOTHING TO BE SORRY FOR! WHAT YOU ARE EXERIENCING IS NORMAL! VERY NORMAL!"

Confusion rushed through Frisk like heavy winds. What about flipping out over blankets and ones-own-tears was by any means "normal?" Nobody they knew had ever done that. Just them. They are the weirdo.

Papyrus and Frisk stared at one another, eye-to-eyesocket. Papyrus smiled at them, with an expression of such strong empathy and respect that Frisk had never experienced before, even from their well-meaning parents back home.

"Do you think he's also...yknow..." "You don't have to talk about it like its some forbidden curse, dumbass! Just say 'autistic'! The pause makes you sound bad!" "Well, geez, I'm sorry!" "...p-please stop yelling...y-youre going to t-trigger Frisk again..."

Frisk couldn't help that their eyes went wide. It...made sense. It made so much sense, that they almost wanted to cry again. They ignored the people in their mind, as they continued to argue amongst themselves.

They focused on their own thoughts. Thoughts of Papyrus.

His interest with the Royal Guard was a special interest. His repeated foot-stomp when agitated was a stim. His struggle making friends...his struggle with social cues...the way he took things too literally, or too metaphorically, just as they did...

Was it possible that its true...?

They wanted to ask Papyrus, but without words, was unsure how. So they did the only thing that made sense to them; they pointed at their head with one hand, pointed at his head with the other, and clasped both hands together, as if asking "are our minds the same?"

Recollection and understanding flashed through Papyrus's expression, and his smile grew wider.

"WHY, YES! I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS, THINK AS YOU THINK! HOW LUCKY WE ARE, TO BE SO SIMILAR!"

That was all the confirmation Frisk needed. They felt tears building in their eyes once again, and hugged him as tight as they possibly could, wrapping their small arms and legs around his spine, as if he were a lifeline. Two of the people in their head - probably Lucielle and Malo - quietly aww'd at Frisk's actions.

Someone was like them. Someone understood. And the best part was, this someone was cool! Not some freak or weirdo, as they always thought of themself to be. He was nice, and gentle, and awesome.

Everything they always wanted to be.

"AH! I SEE THAT YOU ARE OVERWHELMED!! CERTAINLY, IT IS FROM THE JOY OF BEING SO SIMILAR TO SOMEONE AS GREAT AS MYSELF!"

Frisk nodded, giggling and sniffles as they pressed into the warmth of his soul and the comfortable stiffness of his smooth bones. He wiped every tear that fell from their eyes before it could bother them, and gratefulness and appreciation seeped within their soul.

"NOW!! I MUST SAY, YOU SHOULD HAVE INFORMED ME THAT THE COUCH WAS NOT UP TO YOUR STANDARDS! MY LAZYBONES BROTHER MAY SLEEP THERE, BUT THAT IS NO PLACE FOR SOMEONE WITH HIGH STANDARDS SUCH AS YOU AND I!"

Frisk laughed. It was amusing to know that the "standards" Papyrus spoke of were sensory-related and autistic quirks. It gave them emotions they couldn't properly describe, even in thought. The closest word to it they could think of was "validating."

To know someone thought of their symptoms as respectable enough to be described as "high standards"...it gave them a sense of euphoria they knew they'd never be able to compare to anything else.

"LAUGH AS YOU WILL, BUT I TAKE MY GUESTS QUITE SERIOUSLY!...AND YOU ARE A GUEST FOREVER!...OR AS LONG AS YOU SO DESIRE. SO I WISH FOR THE MOST COMFORTABLE OF STAYS, FOR YOUR EXTENDED TIME WITH ME!"

Papyrus blushed, looking away shyly, before stammering on.

"S-SO! I OFFER YOU...A STAY IN MY BED! WITH ME!...ONLY IF YOU THINK IT IS UP TO YOUR STANDARDS, OF COURSE."

Frisk's heart and soul felt as though they leaped in joy. Cuddling with him? In bed? With those big, definitely heavy, soft-looking blankets they had noticed (and craved) during their 'date' with him?

It was the best offer he could ever have made. The people inside of them were chatting excitedly; seemed they agreed, too.

They enthusiastically nodded. They nodded so hard, they felt as though their head would fall off. Papyrus grinned, eyes sparkling with joy, a light blush covering his cheeks.

"NYEH HEH HEH! I KNEW YOU WOULD AGREE! EXCELLENT MINDS TRULY DO THINK ALIKE! NOW! LET US GO AND DREAM OF GREATNESS TOGETHER!"

He stood up, scooping them into his arms as if they were a princess. They squeeled and laughed as he skipped towards the stairs with them, seemingly forgetting about the mess they had made in the living room.

Frisk closed their eyes and allowed themself to tune out the world, listening only to Papyrus's soulbeat and the trousling of bones as he made his way to his room. He carefully set them in his bed - it was as soft and warm as they had imagined - and scooted his way under the blankets with them, prepared for sleep.

The voices in their head had finally decided to be quiet. Perhaps the people inside decided it was time for some sleep for them as well.

Frisk would sleep soundly and warmly, from then on. But, above all else, they would sleep cuddled with their newfound hero and idol. With their newfound brother.

And thats all that mattered to them.

Its a post-pacifist series, following Frisk, Chara, and the monsters as they attempt to map out their family, try and achieve a true sense of belonging, and create their own definition of what it means to be “happy.”

Frisk’s bow is the color of the pan flag and their boots are the greyasexual colors (they are greyace-panromantic.) Their neck-piece is the agender flag. (ps: Frisk’s outfit isn’t JUST for pride. Its actually their outfit in general, since they made a new outfit after moving in with the skelebros :D)

The symbol on Sans’s sweater is the Autism symbol, since both Frisk and Papyrus are autistic in Underfamily. (Note: the sweater he’s wearing isn’t the same as his in-game jacket. He still wears his jacket in Underfamily; this sweater is just a spare outfit for special occasions)

Sans and Papyrus love their little sibling to death and would stop at nothing to keep them safe! They support them in all aspects of their life – their gender, sexuality, neurodivergence/mental conditions, and species are all just a part of what makes them special to the family ^v^

The flags at the top are Autistic LGBTQ+ flags, since the main focus of this piece is Frisk being a queer autist!

Hello! You may know us from our UT AUs @dhundertale and @droughtale (but if not, please check out those AUs too!) 

You can call us “Crew”, since it would probably be hard to keep up with all our names. We are a plural system with diagnosed Dissociative Identity Disorder (we also have diagnosed autism, PTSD, anxiety, and depression.)

About the asks

While we draw pictures in response for our asks on dhundertale, asks here will be purely written, simply because we dont have the time to draw for both ask series. 

That means that answers will be given for this AU faster than they are for our other AUs, since writing comes naturally faster to us.

Please don’t ask anything NSFW to Frisk (or anyone else) in this AU. Frisk is a child, and asking the adults weird stuff is just…not really the point of this AU.

Asker magic will only be allowed sometimes. We prefer for askers to be somewhat distant from the characters here, unlike in our DH ask series.

About the AU

In this AU, Frisk (and by extension, Chara) decided not to fight Asgore. They instead returned to the skelebros and took up Papyrus’s offer to live with him and Sans.

Sans and Papyrus take in Frisk without question, and begin treating them as a younger sibling.

How will things play out now that Frisk is a part of the skelefam? 

How does Flowey react to this, seeing as his previous plans were shot out the window? 

How do the skelebros keep Frisk safe from the Royal Guards’ capture? 

Was fighting Asgore the only reason Frisk decided not to continue…or perhaps, they believed they had nothing to return to on the surface?

You may find out, if you just ask.

While (most) humans are born with sex-traits, monsters are born sexless. They only gain sex-traits when they hit puberty. This means neither they or their parents know how their bodies will develop; male, female, intersex. Some monsters even remain sexless their whole lives.

Because of this, its normal for monsters to get to explore their gender at a very young age and choose their pronouns when they are old enough to understand.

[Redacted] was erased before hitting puberty. He chose to keep aging when he met Celest…and discovered upon puberty that he has an intersex body (making him a trans-boy/interboy.) His body feels too “feminine” for him and he tries his hardest to hide it through void-powers…but its always in the back of his mind…

Accommodations are available for trans and intersex monsters usually. But because he is in the void, those doctors are unavailable to him…meaning he is stuck in a body that makes him miserable. A body he feels doesn’t fit his gender.

Having his body modified so much as a kid also doesn’t help…being dollified + his gender identity has caused him to feel as though he is not “good enough” to be a “real boy.” He feels disconnected from himself…disconnected from his body. He hates it; hates himself.

However…in one universe, he has found himself a papa (@ask-dcf)…and in this picture, he’s showing him how he looks when he isn’t using the void to hide his “feminine” traits…

He expected rejection…but his papa doesn’t care how he looks or what his sex is...because he is still his son, no matter his appearance.
