Natasha met you post-Black Widow. She was helping out Yelena with freeing the Widows’ when she came across you.

You were a teen at the time - but still brainwashed. Thankfully because of your age you hadn’t been brainwashed into doing anything too bad yet, but you were almost finished with your training.

Something struck Natasha when she saw you. Looking back on it, she assumes it was the fact that like her and Yelena, you had been put into the Red Room at a young age, and you were the first teen they saw while on these various missions.

While she was okay with fighting the other Widows’, it was hard for Natasha to fight you. At the time, she brushed it off as not wanting to hurt a kid, but she knew that she was taking a liking to you.

Which was why, when Yelena managed to free you, and you told them that you had nowhere to go, Natasha felt the need to do something about it. Unlike the other Widows’ who were adults, you couldn’t go out into the world alone and, after talking with Yelena, Natasha decided to take you along with her.

It wasn’t adoption per say, at least at first, but it was close enough.

You jumped at the opportunity to tag along with Natasha and while Yelena continued the Widows’ mission, Natasha took you back to Melina’s house., where you met Melina and Alexei.

You were wary around them at first, clinging to Natasha, but you warmed up.

However, it wasn’t long before Natasha had to go on the run again. She offered you the chance to stay there with Melina and Alexei but you had grown very close to Natasha and wanted to come with her.

So, you did.

It was difficult, escaping authority and having to constantly be moving, but it in a way it strengthened yours and Natasha’s bond. You guys got closer and learned to work together — as fighting partners as well as mother/daughter.

Which was why, not having known your biological parents or where they were, the word ‘mom’ easily fell off her lips.

It happened when you guys were eating take-out in your latest house. Natasha had passed you the water pitcher and “thanks, mom” just came so naturally.

For a second, you didn’t realize what you had said, until you looked up to see Natasha staring at you with wide eyes.

Then, it hit you. Holy shit my god. Had you just said that?? What just happened?

You got scared that Natasha would react badly, but it was the opposite. A huge grin broke out on her face and even happy tears of pure joy.

When you asked her what was going on, she said: “I’ve never been a mother.”

That’s when you smiled and hugged her and you officially agreed on becoming mother and daughter.

Natasha was worried on being a mother at first, scared that she messed it up, but after reassurance from Melina via a phone call, she fell into the role naturally.

She became much more protective.

This went on until the Avengers called upon Natasha to fight Thanos.

She brought you along with her and the team was thoroughly stunned.

You absolutely loved fighting alongside Okoye and meeting Shuri. You were fascinated by her technology.

You also kicked ass on the battlefield.

But then . . . You lost.

You watched Bucky disappear and even though you hadn’t known him for nearly as long as Natasha and Steve did, you still felt great pain.

Then you learned to that Sam and Wanda had gotten snapped and it got worse.

The days leading after were some of the most difficult days ever.

It was the first time you had to be strong for your mom, seeing as she had lost her friends too, and you panicked at first.

But you had been her daughter for awhile now and you knew what to do. You hugged Natasha and was there for her.

In the months coming, you helped the reminding heroes rebuild the world and you eventually joined the Avengers under your mother’s lead.

You also met Clint but it wasn’t a happy meeting, really, since he had lost his family.

You continued on as an Avenger with Natasha by your side. You met Carol and she was like an aunt and was amazing.

Things started to turn on the bright side when one day Natasha walked in with a genuine smile and held papers.

You could only guess what they were for at first, but quickly was shown and freaked out (a happy freak out) after.

Adoption papers.

You jumped and yelled and screamed and cheered, unbelievably happy that this was becoming official official.

While the past few years had been difficult, this made it all worth it. You didn’t know where you’d be without Natasha and she was always with you.

Johnny smiles a little, but this time a genuine smile "that's very kind of you Y/n" he says as you smile, feeling accomplished.

"Is something going on with you? You said you knew what I felt" Johnny questions.

"Oh uhm actually I'm kind of stuck on something right now- I'm kinda doing one thing that I know would hurt someone I love but only just found out they wouldn't like it when I'm doing it and it's hard because I know how he'll react" You say nervously, as technically you just told on yourself.

Johnny nods his head in understand-meant "is he a lover?" He asks to which you nod yes.

"Well then he should understand right? I mean you're a great kid he would understand" Johnny encourages.

You smile softly "thank you" you blush of embarrassment from the fact that you know you literally just told on yourself.

"No problem kid, now go get into your stance" He says getting up as you follow, walking out of his office and into your follow in stance.

The rest of practice ended with a happier and more relieved Johnny. At the end of class Johnny asked both of you and Miguel to stay behind saying that he needed to give you both something.

He leads you both to the trunk of his red firebird, which holds two black Cobra Kai Gi's "I wanted to give both of you these first" He says handing one to both you and Miguel.

You couldn't just let him walk away, so you ran after him once he turned the curve behind the dojo "Robby wait at least let me explain" You plead.

He stops once again before turning back around "what? What do you need to explain" he sighs.

"Look I didn't know that Johnny was your dad until yesterday when you told me! I had no way of knowing but I knew that I didn't want to quit karate" You state.

"Oh so you couldn't have just quit when you knew or at least have told me?" He grits his teeth, walking closer to you.

"Oh come on Robby, just give Johnny a chance he's really trying" You plead.

"Oh so now you're on his side" He says defensively.

"I'm not saying that I just thought that if I kept it a secret that I wouldn't hurt you" You say guiltily.

"That is not just a secret Y/n!" He yells stepping closer causing you to flinch accidentally.

This action didn't go unnoticed to Robby, he immediately goes soft "oh Y/n- I-I'm sorry" He says going to grab your hand but you pull it away.

"Just. Don't. I think we need some time to collect ourselves" You state before walking away from Robby and back to Johnny.

"I'm sorry Johnny- I should've told you earlier" You say guiltily as you didn't want Johnny to feel some type of way towards you now.

He nods his head understandingly "look Y/n. It's okay there's nothing to be sorry for, i actually would spin you two together if he wasn't being such a d*ck" He comments.

You laugh at his choice of words "you mean ship?" You question.

"Oh so that's what they call it" He hums as you nod.

Johnny offered you a ride home, since you both lived at the same apartment complex and of course you agreed.

As you walked through your apartment door you felt bad, bad about keeping a secret from Robby that would hurt him, but also mad because he had just told you Johnny was his dad so you had no way of knowing beforehand.

Robby on the other hand felt terrible, he made you flinch. Worst of all he yelled at you which he would never do if it were a different topic, his dad was always a hard topic for him.

Robby had decided to take action and visit your apartment, he hated being away from you for more than a couple days.

He bought some of your favorite flowers and made his way to your apartment on his skateboard. Moments later you heard a knock at your door, your parents weren't home and you knew they would be here later so that confused you.

None the less you opened the door to reveal Robby awkwardly holding your favorite flowers, a look of regret and sadness written clearly on his face.

"Robby-?" You question confused.

"Y/n hear me out please..." He pleads.

"Okay... come in" You say holding the door opened for him more.

He walks in and sets the flowers down on your counter "look I'm sorry for yelling at you like that, it was wrong of me but I was just upset" He confesses, looking down.

You sigh "Robby it's okay, I know you would never hurt me like that it was just an instinct. I'm sorry to for not telling you" You say guiltily.

Robby walks closer to you and grabs both of your hands interwinding them with his "no it's okay Y/n, I know you didn't know I shouldn't have pushed you like that" Robby admits.

"It's know, I just thought if I kept it a secret it wouldn't hurt you as much...." You mumble honestly.

He smiles a little "I think it hurt more, but now it's okay because I love you to much to lose you" He shyly admits.

You smile, wrapping your arms around his shoulders "I love you more" You respond.

"How about we get some food and cuddle?" You question happily.

"That sounds amazing" Robby reply’s.

Even though Robby was desperately hurt at your actions, he knew it wasn’t your fault he knew that you didn’t know I mean how would you have known if he never opened up to you. Anyways life went on and eventually Robby finally spoke and sorted things out with his dad, though that didn’t stop certain people but it did save Johnny’s.

Summary: Ryan and Min got off the train, but spending several months away from home while dealing with a very traumatic experience on an interdimensional judgment train. Recovery is not instantaneous and one good band session does not mean that everything is solved. It’s going to take more work, more talking, and being honest. However, it’s very hard to have an absolutely honest conversation in the 1980s, especially with everything that both boys are withholding.

Min wakes up in an actual bed. He is back in his room. It felt familiar, yet foreign. The sheets smell musty after several months of the room not being occupied. It is hauntingly quiet. Min realizes that it's late morning and not only had he forgotten to set a morning alarm, but his parents hadn't come to wake him up when he didn't arrive for breakfast. It was a kind of quiet morning with lack of responsibility that he hadn't had since he was a child.

When he gets out of bed, Min runs himself through his usual routine pre-train. He changes into his clothes for the morning. It feels great being able to dress in a new outfit rather than the one outfit he'd recycled during his stay on the train. He combs his hair, pushing it back so it doesn't fall out of his eyes. He brushes his teeth and his mouth feels clean for the first time in ages. The minty taste is almost comforting.

It's after Min picks up his phone from his bedside table that his mini-synth catches his eye. He had discarded it that night before bed, feeling too exhausted to put it in its proper place, so it sits on the edge of his dresser. Min picks it up, holding it firmly in one hand. He smiles and uses the pen to click on the keys, listening to the quiet tune.

His hands slow, hesitating before playing another note. He sighs and sets the synth down again. Min tears himself away and moves down the stairs.

"There you are, Min," his mother says. She's preparing lunch already. She goes over and gives him another hug and kisses his cheek. "Did you sleep well?"

Min nods and kisses her cheek back. "It was a great night's sleep. Thank you for letting me sleep in."

"You need your rest after coming all the way from New York," she says. "Lunch is almost ready. Go get your father, will you? He's in his study."

"Of course," Min says.

He walks down the hallway to his father's study. He knocks on the door and pokes his head inside. "Hi Dad," he says. "Mom says that lunch is almost ready."

His father looks up from his laptop and smiles. "Of course. I'm finishing up a report." He points to the other chair at the desk with his pen. "Join me for a moment?"

Min obediently takes a seat. He clasps his hands in his lap. A long silent moment is spent between them. His father types away at his laptop and Min's gaze wanders around the room. He looks at the books on the shelves, some written in Korean and some written in English. His father had to take to learning English more than his mother, since his father worked with a lot of American businesses. Min never learned any Korean while he was growing up. It just never stuck with him.

"How was New York?" his father finally asks. "I know that you were taken there against your will, but, I hope that it was at least a good learning experience."

"Oh." Min hesitates. "Yeah it was...It was really nice actually, Dad."

His father glances at him out of the corner of his eye. "So Ryan really didn't let you call us for months, hmm?"

Min rubs the back of his neck. "It wasn't exactly his fault," Min says carefully. "He...There...It was an issue with our phones. I couldn't get a call out to you-"

"Min-Gi. It's alright," his father says. "Your mother and I understand that Ryan put you in a very difficult position. It wasn't fair that he forced you there and I know he probably did everything he could to keep you from reaching out to us. He knew that we would have taken the next flight out to New York to get you."

"Dad, it's really not as bad as it sounds," Min says. "it was a good thing I went, I think."

His father doesn't seem to really hear what he's saying. "I thought that he was a bad influence on you. Even when you were a child. He always seemed to have this..." He gestures vaguely. "You were really applying yourself before he whisked you away to New York." He sighs and shakes his head. "Ryan didn't even seem to understand the kinds of things he was taking away from you. You'll be lucky if you can get your job at Dumpty's back. Not to mention that you've lost this entire school year as an opportunity to move to college and get started on your higher education."

"I can always go next year," Min replies. He plays with the lower button on his jacket. "Dad, Ryan asked me if I could join the band, and-"

"Absolutely not," his father laughs. "After the stunt he pulled?"

"Dad-"

"You have so much you have to catch up on. And I'm sure you've had plenty of your fill of Ryan. Several months with him? You two spent a lot of time together but you never stayed over at his house for longer than a night. You always had to come home and get your quiet." He shakes his head. "It's better that you didn't stay there long either. I didn't want him getting any ideas." That makes him pause and he looks at Min. "He didn't try to tempt you at all, did he?"

Min blinks a few times. "Dad, no. He. Ryan took good care of me."

"Good care of you?" His father scoffs. "That boy is not someone that you want taking care of you. He can't even look after himself. I'm sure that's why he came to drag you off with him."

Something boils over inside of Min. "Dad, just listen to me."

His father pauses and looks at him fully. "...yes?"

Like a fire that has just been smothered, the words that had danced on Min's tongue suddenly dissipate. "...I'm sorry that I worried you and Mom," he manages to say.

His father smiles. He squeezes Min's shoulder. "We know that it wasn't your fault, Min. We aren't upset with you." He lets go and gets to his feet. "You said that lunch was almost ready, right? We don't want to leave her waiting." He chuckles and moves to wards the door.

Min struggles for his words, but they don't return to him. He can only follow obediently after his father, sticking his hands into his pockets.

The table is set for them when they arrive. Min's mother is just serving up the food onto plates and bringing them to the table.

"Looks delicious, Mom," Min says as he sits at the table. His mother smiles and pats his head before she takes her own seat.

"He slept very late today," she says to her husband. "Got his good rest. He'll be up for any challenge now." She laughs warmly.

"Good. We need you well-rested," Min's father says, giving Min a smile.

Min looks down shyly at his food and moves it around with his fork. He's hungry, but he can't bring himself to actually eat.

It is quiet at the table for several long minutes before his mother wipes her mouth with her napkin. "Min-Gi...Your father and I have been worried. Of course. When you were with Ryan--nothing...happened, did it?"

Min glances up from his plate. "Nothing like...what?"

His parents share a silent look. His mother clears her throat. "You know that we would support you through anything."

"And we would never blame you for something that wasn't your fault," his father continues. "He may have--gotten you drunk or gotten you confused, or forced-"

"Stop, stop!" Min cries, waving his hands. "Ryan never did anything to me. He was great he--we had a nice time in New York. Nothing like--that ever happened."

Min sees his parents visibly relax at the assurance. A sick feeling pokes in Min's stomach and he looks back at the plate.

"We know that you'll need time to readjust being back home," Min's father says. "But I think it would be a good idea to reapply to university soon."

"Reapply?" Min asks numbly.

"You disappeared for months. You were accepted, but then you didn't show up. You'll have to apply again," his father explains. "It's important that you get your education, Min. If this trip was as nice as you say, then I'm happy for you. But your education can't be put off any longer."

Min chews on his lip for a minute. He sets down the fork. "I don't know if I want to go into finance."

Min's mother laughs. "See? I told you he'd rather to go to law school. Not everyone can have a knack for business."

"I don't know if I want to be a lawyer either," Min sighs.

"A mathematician?" his father offers. "Oh! A surgeon!"

This was getting out of hand already. Min looks at his parents and crumbles his napkin in his hand. "I want to do music."

His parents' eyes go wide. It's the longest pause they've had in a conversation in along time. It makes Min's palms go sweaty and he can't help but let his gaze drop.

"Min-Gi," his mother finally says. "The--The viola is a wonderful instrument, but-"

"No, not..." Min's cheeks glow with shame. "Ryan, he-"

"You will not join that boy's band," his father says firmly. "Min-Gi. He kidnapped you for several months. You cannot then just go with him, with no job security, no education! He practically dropped out of high school just so he could escape in that van."

Min rubs his thumb over the fork. "He never got close to flunking any of his classes. He just really loves music."

"It's not a good idea," his father insists. "I will not allow it. You have a plan. You're going to reapply, go to college, get your degree, and then move onto a stable career and starting a family."

"But--But that won't-!" Min's lip trembles. It won't make him happy. He doesn't know how to say that without sounding like a child on the verge of a tantrum.

His mother reaches across the table and puts her hand over his. "Min-Gi. You really think you're going to live on the road? Eat all this fast food and performing in front of people who will judge you based on something you never even properly learned?"

"I--I..." The very thought makes Min's mouth grow dry. If he thinks about getting on stage for too long, he feels the blood draining from his face.

"You're pale at the thought," Min's father points out. "It wouldn't be good for you."

"You deserve to go to university," his mother says gently. "It's a very respectable thing, Min-Gi. Not everyone needs to go out on the road chasing some useless artistic dream. You need stability."

His father sighs and shakes his head. "Ryan really has been a bad influence on you."

"No...No, he's...I've learned a lot from him," Min weakly protests.

"We can talk about this another time," his father says. "Right now, you need to eat. And then you need to reapply to college. We can talk about this music nonsense after you've settled more. Okay?"

Min wants to say more, but his words fail him. He can't seem to form any sentences in his mouth. He just nods. The food looks even less appetizing than it did earlier and his stomach recoils as he brings a forkful to his mouth. But he keeps eating, knowing that his parents will want him to keep his energy up and eat properly. His parents seem satisfied with his silence and the relief on their faces make Min feel even more guilty. They're right. He has a plan. He can't just up and abandon that plan because of--because of what? An absolutely wild experience on a train? He learned things, sure, but that doesn't mean that everything can just suddenly change. He needs to put more thought into this. He can't just decide. He can stay in place and think on it for a bit.

So I binged watched High School Musical: The Musical: The Series (Hsmtmts) season 1 about a month back. Now I'm watching season 2. As many, I was surprised to semi like this show. I'm impressed with how unique it is. I won't lie some things have irritated me or disappointed me, but honestly it's better than I thought. A little too much about relationship drama in season 2, but the moments about other stuff is really good. Holy heck all the kids are so talented, they all have such great voices. Can't wait to watch more. That aside I feel like season 2 is getting better, cannot wait to see the next episode. 2x09 looks really good in the promo which prompted me to think about how I feel about each character or couple. I loved that they brought back pretty much the same 6 background 'chorus dancers' in season 2. I know there's more, but actually including them like thed New years party, Improve, and the Quinceanero.

I know I may be hated for this, however I do not ship any of the four 'main' at the moment, they all have so much to work on. But my hsmtmts weird venting of feelings rant. Sorry in advance.

🚨SPOILERS AHEAD🚨

Nini & Ricky - First and for most I never shipped them after the first break up and the slow burn throughout the rehearsals for hsm. Not sure what exactly it was but they just didn't work for me. Communication was such a big problem for them right from the flashbacks, and I know it's a Disney show but a whole year to say 'I love you' felt strange when later we practically see them eating each other blah. Something did not work for me. Their chemistry died part way through season 2. Falling in love with your first love and bestfriend is really precious, but also so heartbreaking at the same time especially if things don't work. Because you never want to lose the friendship. Ricky was becoming too much and treating her terribly, which she absolutely did not deserve. Nini deserves to be independent, she is very talented I won't deny that, but I feel sad because she seems too disconnected from the group even with her bestfriend Kourt despite them placing the two together the last two episodes, something just seems off. (Now this may be just my bias of usually hating main characters when there's a larger cast trickling in) She's still amazing and I hope they can write her independent growth and connection to her friends a bit better, and give us something to look forward to for her character. She needs to learn how to communicate and not hide behind songs or running away. Also proud that she said she wasn't returning from Yac completely for Rocky, which would have been stupid. I would not want to see her give up her dream because he wanted her to. Now I will say their second break up was so mature and beautifully done though and glad she has her fans and music to help her get through. I want to see Nini lean on her mom's for support. Hope she gets an interesting storyline that can showcase how super talented Olivia is with that incredible voice, can't wait to hear more💖

Ricky, well dang this boy needs therapy. He has so many problems he needs to work through. He seriously needs the support of his parents and friends to help him through his break up and abandonment issues. He was becoming pretty scary during season 2, it was making me so uncomfortable. He doesn't like change and yes that's hard to get through but yikes he was almost becoming toxic in some ways. I also know it's very hard to break trauma engraved feelings. Ricky was so insecure that he had to delete a comment from Nini's insta, honestly felt kind of out of character(felt like it was reverting back to season 1 with Ej being jealous, and I did not like it). He's a great character and I hope they show him getting help and working on his issues. I know they showed him with his Mom, Lynn in the 2x09 promo(which is so hard because I don't like her) so I hope it works out and she can help him or that they can have a genuine heart to heart conversation about her actions and how they impacted him. Still don't forgive her for everything so put Ricky through in the first season. He looks so sad and I hope they focus on his mental health and concerns before even thinking about any other relationship drama(wishful thinking...). So happy Ricky had Big Red, those scenes in the montage were so precious and heartwrenching. Big Red just knew Ricky needed him. I want to see more of that friendship grow because it felt slightly lacked in season 2 but that could because he was too focused on Nini and that the rest of the group was growing. I hope they do not let Ricky and Lily happen, that would be such a mistake. Josh is crazy talented can't wait to hear more🧡

Gina - Gosh this girl just needs a big ass hug. I feel so sad and constantly worried about her. That would be so hard constantly moving around never feeling grounded anywhere. I really liked that Ashlyn tried to help with developing a 'home' for Gina. Gina being so independently powerful and strong-willed is a great attribute to who she is and I loved her fierceness in season 1, but I feel like I haven't seen much of that this season, still like her a lot. It just seems she's sadly always putting on a brace face, which makes me feel awful for her. Her pining of Ricky is my least favorite thing about her. I get feelings can develop and with how she fell for him in season 1 and he chose Nini in the end was really sad. But I must say I felt disheartened when she thought Ricky was the one to send her the chocolates on valentines day and was mortified they turned that miscommunication into a joke. Nope, that was not something I liked at all, it felt forced. Yes, they work/see each other in the musical, but with the confused feelings they both shared they really should have backed away from each other to figure things out until both know exactly what they want. It's not fair to each other or Nini and Ej. I don't ship Rina though. Gina in episode 2x05 had me so sad for her, she deserves the world and I was so sad she was internally saying goodbye to everyone. I hope we see her and he mom work on things that will be the best to support Gina. I 100% do not want to see Gina and Jack be a thing, I know they're actors but nope that would be too strange after watching Sofia and Asher as tweens on Andi Mack. Also they really went there with the 'I feel like I know you' seem familiar scene, why? I cringed, I know it's a nod to Andi Mack fans who most probably now watch hsmtmts. I hope we continue to see her friendships grow with everyone. Sofia is so dang talented💚

Ej - I just want to say he went from being hated, to one of the favorite characters in season 2. He became so likeable. Carlos' comment about emotion in the song Gaston was big progress from the scene in season one between the pair, it was nice honestly. I really like Ej's relationship with Mr. Mazzara and hope that he continues to support Ej. I think that can be very good. I also love Ashlyn and Ej's relationship. I hope we eventually see a apology scene or talking scene between Nini and Ej. I really do not like Portwell and I'm so sorry to the fans. But I just don't ship it. I would love them to be good friends and be supportive of each other, their conversation was nice in the 2x08. I hope we see more of his interactions with different characters and continue to see his relationships develop. Ej and Duke well that is a whole other thing. Him acknowledging his privilege and how he didn't earn it was great character progress and very interesting to see. I did feel super sad for Ej, because the boy clearly works so hard with all the clubs and teams he's on, his high gpa, as well as his many other extra curriculars. His Dad, Cash making calls was ridiculous and I'm so proud of Ej telling him he's not going to Duke. I hope we get to see Ej grow independently. However, the promo for 2x09 shows Ej either packing or unpacking boxes with Ashlyn in the room during the zoom call. So I'm worried it's either him helping Gina move out, or the more likely option. Cash Caswell kicked Ej out over him saying he did not want to go to Duke at the end of 2x08. Ej has so much pressure on him. Gah please let Matt sing more, his voice is incredible💛

Ashlyn & Big Red - Redlyn is really sweet and I hope things work out between them regarding them not going through more jealously and relationship drama. I do wish the writers would have explored Ashlyn's insecurities a bit more and with more than just Big Red. I did not like the using her insecurities as comedy in some scenes. Ashlyn being a Disney princess is amazing and such a good thing to showcase. I liked the way they went with Big Red and the career stuff. I see absolutely nothing wrong with him wanting to continue his families legacy and proud that he said that to Ash. Also was happy to see them working that out and her understanding and accepting that. When she finally agreed I was very happy. I don't hate Antoine, but I def don't want to see some weird love triangle glad they said they were working through that. I really want to see more of them together and separate as they're a really cute couple and I think could survive their relationship with independent plot lines. The valentines moments were too sweet. I want to see more scenes with Ashlyn and Ej as I feel they have lacked this season. So, I definitely want to see more of them together as besides drama club, they are part of very different circles so I was shocked to see them so close. However, the more we learned about the Caswells, it appears they grew up alone and only with each other, neither of their parents being home. With her throwing all the parties and him being at her house often and correct me if I'm wrong he sleeps in the spare room quite a bit after parties or in general at her house. Although he did just knock/ring the doorbell in 2x08 which I don't think we've seen before. And his mind else where with Duke and probably his crush nerves somehow forgot Gina was living with Ashlyn. Julia's voice is fantastic that high note in the mob song was just wow. Larry can really sing so well dang, glad he got to sing more in season 2. I cannot wait to hear more from them❤

Carlos & Seb - Seblos is absolutely adorable, that might be biased though because of Joe and Frankie! Even though they are playing characters I feel like there's a little of them that slips through sometimes and I find myself smiling. I hope this fight that keeps being spoken about can be resolved easily. I'll be really sad if not. My heart feels for Seb, as I get Miss Jen doesn't see him as a leading man but she broke barriers once with him being Sharpay which was awesome, he was amazing. So, I hope Seb gets a bigger part in the next musical, and that he and Carlos can work through their relationship dynamic and problems. Really sad to constantly see Seb be told no and disregarded. I want that to change and see him stand up for himself. I don't like that they're portraying him as 'dumb' honestly. Always hate those characters in shows. Sure they say funny things but it's weird. Carlos looks like he's overworking himself and being there for everyone that isn't Seb. Carlos does need to focus on himself a bit and find time for him. Gah I was so happy to see some of Frankie's own heritage represented in the show in 2x05. Carlos' relationship with Miss Jen definitely weirded me out initially😅 I thought the plant growing with them was adorable and the meaning behind the Climb was great, just too cute. I've saw someone mention they think Ricky is going to be going through too many personal problems and be unable to perform and that Seb would take over, which I honestly agree this will happen. Hope to see so much more with them. Definitely hope to hear more singing!!! Gah Frankie and Joe's voices are incredible. They both need to sing way more💜

Kourtney - I still cannot believe she was only meant to be a one or two episode character, she's incredible and I'm so happy they made her more than just Nini's bestfriend who the main character whines to. I loved how they incorporated her as an asset and fashion/costume designer. She's headstrong and so very talented. Really glad they added Kourtney as a cast member to the musical. I mean her step in scene as Taylor was funny, but it's nice to see her break out of her box a little. I hope her relationship does not deter her future and headstrong nature. I really really want to see her relationship grow with other characters that aren't Nini as they were starting to before she came back. Seb and Kourt were great. I'm still indifferent about Howie and Kourtney after everything that has happened with North High. The Harry Potter references were too great though. Can't wait to see where else they go with her character and even Howie. Dara and Roman have such amazing and jaw dropping voices. Dang I want to hear more singing from them both💙

So that was a long winded explanation of how I've been feeling. The show is amazing with such young and talented actors playing awesome characters can't wait to see where else they go with them. Definitely need more singing and dancing.

Say You Won’t Let Go (Tobin Heath x Reader)

After some time overseas with the military, the reader, Tobin’s childhood best friend comes back home. Back to her. But will her feelings for Tobin lead her to stay, or go back overseas?

Tobin’s eyes widen in disbelief when she sees you in the stands, clapping ecstatically with a massive grin on your face, your Y/E/C orbs shining.

She leaves the field, bypassing her teammates in favor of literally jumping over the barricade and moving into the stands, her arms wrapping tightly around your neck the second she reaches you.

“You’re home...” She whispers as she buries her face in your chest. “Oh my God, you’re home.” Tobin pulls back tears running down her cheeks as she cups your face.

“So that’s the girl Tobin always gushes about?” Kelley asks Christen who nods, beaming.

“They’ve been friends literally their entire lives.” She smiles.

“ALL of their lives?” Sonnett asks, eyes narrowed and Christen nods.

“They grew up together, went to college together... They only separated when Y/N joined the military, she’s been gone for a while...”

Tobin’s brown orbs dart around your face, swiping a lone tear away that streaks down your cheek, leaking from one of your glassy Y/E/C eyes.

“You’re really here.”

You nod, chuckling.

“I am... I’m home.” You whisper as you slip your arms around her middle and pull her close, the woman blushing when you turn your head, kissing her temple.

Tobin smiles, tightening her hold on you, feeling as if having you back in her arms is the real meaning of home for the two of you.

“Yeah, you are.”

“So, when DO we get to see this mysterious best friend of yours?” Sonnett asks with a grin, Tobin shrugging as she grabs her things.

“Soon.” Tobin grins pulling the locker room door open, shaking her head when she sees you.

“Hey.” You smirk from where you’re leaned back against a nearby wall.

“Did you sneak back here?” Tobin asks and you grin.

“Some things never change Toby.”

Tobin’s cheeks flush pink at the nickname, the only nickname you’d first said when you met in kindergarten.

Tobin’s eyes glaze over, remembering when the two of you first met.

Tobin’s bottom lip trembled her tiny knees hugged to her chest as she sniffles softly, brown orbs darting around the classroom.

“Are you okay?” She looked up, seeing an equally small Y/H/C little girl standing in front of her, wearing a small smile.

“I miss my mommy…” She’d mumbled and you’d frowned, sitting on the floor beside her.

“I’m Y/N, what’s your name?” You ask, Tobin ridding her cheeks of tears with the sleeve of her shirt.

“Tobin.” She mumbles and you smile.

“Okay Toby, we’re friends now... Is that okay?” You ask and Tobin giggles.

“It’s okay.”

“Hey, where did you go?”

Your voice pulls her out of her trance and she grins.

“Just remembering the first time you called me that.”

You laugh, the two of you unaware of her teammate's presence.

“Who would I be if I left a little girl alone crying in the back of the room?” You ask and the forward grins.

“You wouldn’t be you.” She whispers and you smile bashfully.

“I guess not.”

Someone clears their throat and your eyes widen, just now becoming aware to the fact that Tobin’s teammates had been watching the two of you talk.

“HEY! YOU AREN’T SUPPOSED TO BE BACK HERE!” You hear someone yell and you wince.

“Uh oh.” You mumble.

“Hey, she’s with me.” Tobin steps forwards, putting herself between you and the security guard. His eyes dart between the two of you, you ducking down to hide behind Tobin.

“Why are you so short?” You mumble, Tobin turning around to face you with a pout.

“Why are you so large?”

The security guard, instead of staying turns and walks off, shaking his head.

Christen watches the two of you bicker with a grin.

“So, you scared off Paul Blart.” Sonnett says, putting an end to the bickering, the two of you turning towards the team, Tobin smirking where as you are grinning, all the while rubbing the back of your neck and chuckling.

“So uhhh, I’m Y/N, sorry Toby was being an attention hog.” You tease the woman elbowing you in the side.

You laugh, slipping an arm around her, pulling her into your side.

“Yeah, she can be like that.” Kelley smirks, earning a harmless glare from the forward.

Christen suddenly steps forwards, throwing her arms around you.

“It’s really great to meet you, Tobin talks about you constantly, you should see how she gets when she gets a letter from you.” The brunette’s green orbs dart to Tobin’s face, the woman’s cheeks pink.

You turn towards the aforementioned woman, smiling softly.

“Probably the same way I act when I get a letter from her.” You grin, Tobin turning to you, brown orbs shining as she grins.

“I missed you...” She whispers and your cheeks flush. “So much.” She reaches up, cupping your cheeks, something you realize she’d been doing a lot since she realized you were home.

You cover her hands with yours, slipping your fingers in between hers.

“I’m really here.” You grin, Tobin’s cheeks flushing darker.

“Looks like you caught me.” She chuckles embarrassed and you shrug.

“I get it, it’s hard to believe we’re together again.” You close your eyes, leaning in to Tobin’s touch.

Ashlyn grins.

“They keep forgetting we’re here, don’t they?” She whispers and Ali nods.

“Yep.”

“Yo, Tobe, we want to learn a little more about GI Jane.” Sonnett snickers and you snort, watching as Tobin sends her a surprisingly deadly glare, a glare you remember seeing only once before on the playground when a boy had shoved you into the dirt.

“Maybe we could go to dinner?” You suggest, Tobin turning to you with a grin.

“Yeah, you can come to dinner with us and gives us all the dirt on Tobin.” Emily grins maliciously, her teammates quick to follow her lead.

“No, no, no, no.” Tobin shakes her head and you grin.

“Yes... yes, yes, yes.” You snicker, Tobin smacking you in the chest.

“You can’t come now.”

“Aw, Toby you’re a heart breaker.”

“So, Toby literally, punched her in the face when she found out she was just using me to get to her ex-boyfriend.”

Lindsey puts a hand on her chest.

“I would’ve LOVED to see that.” She grins.

“It was great.” You laugh, blushing when the woman leans against you.

“She deserved it.” She mumbles and you grin, slipping an arm around her, draping it on the back of her chair.

“Well you gave it to her.” You chuckle, Tobin snuggling closer, into the space beneath your arm.

The two of you release soft sighs in sync, as you lean against one another, not caring that Tobin’s teammate’s eyes are on the two of you.

Christen smiles softly watching as the two of you find comfort in one another, making up for the time lost while you were apart.

“Did you forget we were here again?” Sonnett asks, pulling the two of you out of your own little world, the two of you jumping apart, cheeks flushed.

“Sorry?” You chuckle nervously Tobin smacking you in the chest.

“Way to not sound apologetic at all.” She laughs and you shrug, grinning at the woman’s teammates.

“I’m sure you can all understand what it’s like when you’re apart from your other half.” You smile, your eyes widening and cheeks flushing when you realize what you’d just said.

Tobin is in a similar state, her cheeks pink and brown orbs wide.

The forward’s teammates look on, every single one of them wearing massive, toothy grins.

“So how long are you going to be with us GI Jane?” Sonnett asks and you chuckle, turning to look at Tobin.

“Well uhh....” You swallow hard, taking a deep breath, you rub the back of your neck, a telltale sign to Tobin that you’re nervous.

“Why are you nervous?” She asks and you chuckle, shrugging.

“I guess old habits die hard.”

You glance at Sonnett, smiling.

“I was thinking of tagging along a bit for your games.” You shrug, turning to look at Tobin. “I mean, if you’d be okay with that.”

The forward beams.

“I’m more than okay with that.”

Traveling with the USWNT was something you never thought you would experience, you couldn’t really ride the bus with them, so driving to each and every hotel had been an experience, but every single time you made it there, Tobin was there waiting for you, arms wide open and your favorite smile stretched across her face.

Watching Tobin play was everything you thought it would be and more, she scored you private seats so you didn’t have to sit in the stands, instead having an up-close view of the game.

The two of you had been inseparable, as always, so when a free day came up for the woman the two of you absolutely jumped at the chance to spend alone time together.

“Are you going back?”

Tobin’s voice pulls you from your thoughts, the splashing of the water from the fountain in the park the two of you are walking in pulling you back into the present.

You stop, taking a deep breath.

You take Tobin’s hand and walk her towards the fountain, your best friend’s brown orbs glassy when you turn to her.

“You’re going back, aren’t you?” She says sadly and you shrug.

“I haven’t decided...” You bite your bottom lip, swallowing hard.

“I wanted to...” You pause, turning to the fountain, your fingers nervously playing with Tobin’s. “I wanted to see what you thought first.” You whisper, afraid to look at the woman who is fighting back tears.

“I want you to do whatever makes you happy.” Tobin whispers and you swallow hard, turning abruptly towards her, catching her just as she swipes a lone tear away with the back of her hand.

The muscle in your jaw jumps as you slip your arms around her, pulling her close, the woman burying her face in your neck.

You wish you could tell her.

Tell her that she was what made you happy...

And you were hoping, she’d ask you to stay.

Going out into the city with the USWNT certainly was something considering Kelley and Sonnett were together, leading the charge.

You eventually end up at the mall, a number of fans swarming the women, all more than happy to oblige, signing autographs and such.

“Geez...” Your brow arches as Mallory, Sonnett, Sam, Rose and Lindsey drop on the bench you’re sitting on, piling up on one another.

“I don’t think we’ve ever seen you without Tobin glued to your side.” Kelley stops in front of you, her arms crossed across her chest.

You grin, cheeks flushed.

“I guess I just want to make sure I spend enough time with her before I leave again.” You sigh, your eyes darting away as you try to swallow the lump in your throat.

“You’re going back?” Sonnett asks and you nod.

“Soon?” Mallory asks and you shrug.

“Not sure, I still need to go sign the paperwork and all that.” You take a swig of the soda in your hand.

Mallory eyes you for a minute before smiling.

“You want her to ask you to stay, don’t you?” She asks and your eyes widen, your head jerking to the side to look at the young forward, her brown orbs locking with your Y/E/C orbs.

“Wh-What do you mean?” You chuckle, your voice barely a whisper.

The women all glance at one another, every one of them smirking your way.

“Come on Y/N, we’ve never seen anyone look at Tobin the way you do.”

You glance away, cheeks dusted pink.

A lengthy sigh puffs from your nose and you shrug, swallowing hard. You open your mouth to speak, snapping it shut when you see Tobin and Christen making their way towards you.

“Looks like you adopted some kids while we were gone.” Christen grins and you chuckle.

“They adopted me.” You shrug, laughing when Sonnett drapes herself over your lap.

Tobin pulls her teammate off of you, ruffling her hair.

“We’re supposed to meet the others at the food court.” Tobin grins, holding her hand out to you and you take it, the woman intertwining your fingers.

The early conversation between you and the others races through your mind and it’s then when you realize that Mallory has moved to walk on the other side of you, the forward leaning towards you.

“You don’t know unless you ask, don’t let her go again without asking.” She whispers and you smile softly, slipping your arm around the girl’s shoulders, the sight making everyone smile.

“I’m adopting this one.” You grin, Tobin and Christen nodding.

“That’s fine with us, we’ll share custody.”

Sonnett scoffs indignantly, slipping in front of you along with the others.

“What about us?!” She exclaims and you shrug.

“Aren’t you all Kelley’s?” You ask and the defender snorts.

“Nah I don’t claim them.”

“WHAT THE HELL DAD!!?”

“Where’s Y/N?” Kelley asks, glancing around the field and Tobin frowns, ceasing her juggling to simply nudge the ball with her foot.

“She went to sign papers for her next deployment...” She mumbles sadly, her throat tightening.

The forward’s teammates frown.

“Why didn’t you stop her?” Mallory asks, Tobin’s head snapping up, her brown orbs locking with the younger woman’s.

“Why would I stop her...?” Tobin mumbles, voice rough.

Kelley glances around, shrugging, but it’s Mallory who beats her to the punch.

“Because you love her.”

The ball that was at Tobin’s feet rolls passed her, the woman’s brown orbs wide as she stares at the younger girl, a lump forming in her throat.

Tobin’s gaze drops to the turf, the fans still very animated in the stands, though it feels like she’s speaking louder than them, even though her voice is below a whisper, a confession finally passing through her lips.

“I can’t, she probably already signed them.”

All you had to do was sign on the dotted line, the pen grasped in your shaking fist.

Your eyes flutter shut as you remember the day you’d told Tobin you had decided to enlist in the military.

“I’m enlisting.”

The silent night is shattered by the sound of your hoarse whisper, with that hoarse whisper the woman lying beside you on the trampoline in her back yards heart shattering.

When Tobin remains silent, you swallow hard.

“I want to help people.” You whisper. “I want to make a difference in the world...” You swallow hard, looking at your best friend and crush out of the corner of your eye.

“Tobin... Say something please.” You sniffle, tears welling up behind your eyes.

Silently, Tobin lifts your arm up before shuffling closer, your arm wrapped around her as she snuggles into your chest, your heart hammering so wildly in your chest you worry she may hear it.

You close your eyes tight; jaw clenched a part of you hoping she’d say, I don’t want you to go, I want you to stay, I love you and I want you to stay... But instead, the woman simply sighs, nuzzling against your chest.

“You wouldn’t be you if you didn’t help people...” She whispers. “I just want you to do whatever makes you happy.”

You close your eyes, a tear slipping down your cheek, one you’re quick to wipe away, hiding it from the woman on your chest.

“You’re right.” You say simply, not even realizing that the woman on your chest is crying softly, unable to find her voice to beg you not to go.

“Ms. Y/L/N?” You hear and you shake your head, clearing your throat as you glance around.

You aren’t in Tobin Heath’s backyard, you’re in a recruitment office about to sign the papers you need to, for yet another tour overseas.

You give the man a smile and a nod, the tip of your pen pressing against the paper, just above the dotted line.

Tobin was off her game, her mind on anything other than the ball at her feet.

You still hadn’t showed up.

You’d promised her you’d be there after you’d signed the papers and you still weren’t there.

Tobin sighs sadly, simply knocking the ball away to another player, unable to find her groove to face the player in front of her one on one.

Everyone can tell the woman is off her game, her teammates, her opponents, the coaches, the fans, the commentators, you.

The whistle thankfully blows and you watch as Tobin shuffles towards the locker room, head down, a feeling of guilt making your chest tighten.

You’d felt guilty, watching the woman ignore fans on her way into the back.

“Toby...” You whisper to yourself before racing through the crowd, looking frantically for a way you could again sneak into the back of the arena.

Tobin was silent as tactic talks began, her teammates eyes darting her way every once in a while, even Vlatko’s eyes darting to her every few seconds.

“HEY! STOP!”

The women all turn towards the door, eyes wide when you burst into the locker room, an incredibly large man on your heels.

“Seriously? You could’ve just texted one of us instead of sneaking in.” Kelley shakes her head and you shrug, ducking behind Ashlyn, the goalie snickering as the guard glares at you.

“YOU CAN’T BE BACK HERE.” He yells again, lunging back and forth trying to guess where you’re going.

“The chase is the best part, gets the blood pumping.” You tease.

Tobin watches the whole interaction with a small smile, but still, her heart aches in her chest.

Vlatko shakes his head.

“Try to stay out of trouble while I’m gone please.”

The man walks out of the room, along with the security guard, leaving you and the team behind.

You turn to Tobin, seeing that her brown orbs lack the usual shine they have to them, the twinkle in her eye dulled by what you suspect is sadness.

The roomful of women is silent as you approach the forward, your eyes on the woman who instead of looking at you, is staring at her shuffling feet.

You glance over your shoulder, your best friend’s teammates nodding, each and every one of them grinning.

“Toby...” You whisper, the forward still refusing to look at you.

Gently, you take her chin between your thumb and index finger, tilting her head back until your eyes lock.

“I didn’t reenlist.” You whisper, Tobin’s brown orbs doubling in size as they dart around your face.

“H-How could I wh-when...” You stammer, swallowing hard, your mouth opening and closing multiple times before you shake your head, forgoing words instead, surging forwards, your lips pressing against hers.

“That was smooth as fuck...” Kelley whispers to Sonnett who nods, watching her teammate and friend kiss her childhood best friend.

Tobin throws her arms around your neck, eyes slamming shut as she reciprocates the kiss, she hadn’t realized she’d been waiting her entire life for.

The kiss is brief, passionate, the two of you pulling apart to look deeply into one another's eyes, eyes that welled up with tears.

“Tobin... Please say something...” You whisper, your heart hammering in your chest, much like it had been the night you told her you were enlisting.

Tobin cups your cheeks, wiping your tears away with the pads of her thumbs. She tangles her fingers in the hair at the base of your neck and you sigh, the woman pulling you into another kiss that makes stars explode behind your eyes, a feeling you didn’t know you’d experience every time you kissed her.

The two of you part, neither going far as you rest your foreheads against one another, looking deep into one another’s eyes, eyes that locked over two decades ago, in a tiny classroom miles and miles away.

“I love you.” She whispers and you grin, tears leaking from your Y/E/C orbs as you lean in for another kiss, your lips pressing softly together, the kisses shared between the two of you salty from your tears.

Eventually, the two of you part, your grins massive.

“I love you too.” You whisper, Tobin grinning as she pulls you in for a hug, holding you tightly to her chest as she ducks her head, burying her nose in the crook of your neck.

You alerted to the fact that Tobin’s teammates are still there when they all cheer, whistling and clapping, your cheeks blood red.

You turn your head, playfully bumping your nose against Tobin’s.

“So, you’ll stay?” She whispers and you grin, cupping her cheek.

“Do you want me to...?” You ask, voice barely above a whisper and Tobin nods.

“Of course I do.”

#1 Crash landing on you

Son Ye-jin (who plays Yoon Se-ri) and Hyun Bin (Ri Jeong-hyeok) have amazing chemistry and every episode plays out like the chapters of an excellent fanfiction. Classic romantic tropes, humour, angst, action, CLOY has it all. Moreover, if you’ve never watched a Kdrama in your life, CLOY is a great starting point—not only will it introduce you to Korean culture but also to popular tropes and codes of the genre.

#2 Rookie historian Goo Hae-ryung

Genre: Historical, Age gap

Delightful from end to end, with lots of humour and an engaging story. The romance between Goo Hae-ryung and himbo-prince Dowon will make your heart go soft, especially if you’re into reverse gender dynamics (she’s older and kisses him first *le gasp*)

#3 Memories of the Alhambra

Grade: B+

Genre: Modern; Sci-fi; Fantasy

Episodes: 16

Intriguing premise, great cast and tons of special effects but the romance between Jin-woo (Hyun Bin) and Hee-joo (Park Shin-hye) won't go down in history. On top of that, the ending is a bit wishy-washy in that annoying “maybe there’s more to come” kind of way. Give us a clear cut ending, damnit!

#4 Good doctor

Genre: Modern, Medical drama

Good heart but the writing is really clumsy at times and the hospital politics don’t make an awful lot of sense. On the bright side, Joo Won is great in the role of Park Si-on.

Note: I haven’t watched the American remake so can’t compare.

#5 My love from the star/ You from the stars

Jun Ji-hyun is absolutely stellar in the role of Cheon Seong-yi, a ditzy Hallyu* star whose career is going south while Kim Soo-hyun plays the emotionally closed-off alien to perfection. Lots of pinning, a dose of angst mixed with a pinch of wacky humor.

*Hallyu means “Korean wave” in Chinese and refers to the popularity and spreading of Korean pop-culture outside of Korea.

#6 Hwarang The Poet Warrior Youth

Genre: Historical, Coming of age, fake siblings who catch feels

Cute boys and interesting lore rooted in true facts (the bone rank system and the real Hwarang, the “Flowering Knights” of the Silla kingdom) but the story drags. I guess I expected more bromance and frolicking and less angst. Lastly, the main girl starts off quirky and fun but they quickly transform her into a sobbing mess which becomes real annoying real fast.

#7 Love in the Moonlight / Moonlight Drawn by Clouds (구르미 그린 달빛)

Grade: A

Genre: Historical, Romance, Coming of age, Posing as the opposite sex

A classic tale of a girl raised as a boy who ends up in a situation where she needs to do her best to not blow her cover while catching feels (As someone raised on Versailles no bara and Ribbon no Kishi, it remains one of my favourite tropes)

Sweet romance and good characters. The fact that Crown prince Lee Yeong doesn't turn emo when he starts developing feelings for Eunuch Ra-on before discovering she's a girl is the cherry on top of the cake.

#8 Something in the rain

(밥 잘 사주는 예쁜 누나)

Genre: Modern

Happy Ending: Yes, but it still doesn't make you happy

Wasted potential!

Great start but the characterization falls apart quickly and you end up wondering why the main characters keep sabotaging their lives. By the end, despite their reunion, you're left with the impression they've learned nothing and that their relationship is doomed to fall apart.

On top of it all, watching Jin-ah fight sexism in the workplace and gaining nothing is depressing af (I don’t need realism in my escapism, thank you very much).

Too bad because Son Ye-jin and Jung Hae-in look really good together and the acting is top-notch. My advice is to watch the first 8 episodes then make up your own ending in your head.

#9 Moon embracing the sun

Genre: Historical,Star-Crossed lovers

A traditional historical drama with all the tropes that go with the genre + a hint of esoterism.

If you love ill-fated relationships, tragic love triangle, evil queens, and amnesia, this is the show for you. Beware, the interrogation/torture scenes are rather brutal.

#10 My sassy girl

(엽기적인 그녀)

Grade: B-

Genre: Historical, Rom-Com

Episodes: 16

Cute and lighthearted but easily forgettable. Still worth a watch thanks to Joo Won & Oh Yeon-seo's chemistry.

#11 Coffee Prince

Genre: Modern, Posing as the opposite sex

Solid story, great cast but be ready for a lot of bickering.

Yoon Eun-hye is a precious bean who manages to sell the story of Eun-chan, a struggling androgynous working-class girl who mistakenly gets hired by a rich guy to play his boyfriend, then becomes his employee, then falls for him while not correcting his assumptions about her gender. Opposite her, Gong Yoo (from Train to Busan fame) is 🥰🥰🥰

Sidenote: Despite Han-kyul's struggle to accept his feelings for Eun-chan, homosexuality isn't treated as a joke or a shameful thing. The one time he goes seek “medical help”, the doctor is depicted as an old, clueless idiot. And honestly, the story would work too if Eun-chan was a guy.

#12 My girlfriend is a Gumiho/My girlfriend is a Nine-tailed fox

Genre: Modern; Fantasy

Campy and goofy. It does look a bit dated (it’s from 2010) and the story is a little predictable but Lee Seung-gi as Cha Dae-woong, an aspiring action film actor and Shin Min-ah as “Gu Mi-ho” the nine-tailed fox looking for a mate are super cute. The show is also a good introduction to Korean folklore.

#13 Goblin / Guardian: The Lonely and Great God / The Lonely and Great God – Goblin

Unpopular opinion but since I’m not into older guys, I wasn’t invested in the romance between Bride and Goblin until late in the series. I loved everything else though. The show has such a unique tone and atmosphere. It goes from super serious to goofy in no time. The cinematography is gorgeous (especially the historical sets) and you'll cry your eyes out.

#14 Healer

If you're into toll broody guys and fearless smoll girls, you’ll love Healer. The story is great, the characters are great and the way Jung-hu (played by Ji Chang-wook) and Ji-an (Park Min-young) are horny for each other is peak drama! *chef kiss*

#15 Kangchi the beginning/Gu family book

Genre: Historical, Fantasy

Engaging coming of age story of a half-human half-gumiho looking for his place in this world. If it wasn't for the wishy-washy ending it could have been the perfect mix of action fantasy and romance.

Special mention for Dam Yeo-wool (played by Suzie Bae) who is a female character who's allowed to be a bit of everything at the same time (strong, kick-ass, funny, cute, romantic)

#16 Queen for seven days

Genre: Historical, Romance, Villainous crush

With that title don’t expect a HEA but there are plenty of sweet moments along the way to make you appreciate the journey.

Chae-kyung loves the Prince and the Prince loves Chae-kyung but the King wants to kill the Prince and Chae-kyung is loyal to the King but the King is a tyrant and everyone wants the Prince to take his throne. On top of that the King wants Chae-kyung. Big mess. Lots of feels.

The story is (very) loosely based on real-life Queen Dangyeong, which makes it even more poignant. I cried my eyes out at the end because I’m a big softy.

The show (very loosely based on Journey to the West) has its faults including the wishy-washy ending and the fact that Jin Seon-mi/Sam-jang starts off as a doormat but I ended up liking the relationship developing between the assholish Monkey god and the naive human girl more than I expected.

The side characters are compelling, and the banter and bickering between the deities work really well. If you grew up with Dragon ball, you’ll have a blast trying to match-up the Japanese and Korean names of everyone without looking up Wikipedia.

Lastly, not something I imagined saying after seeing him in Gumiho and Gu family book but Lee Seung-gi as Son Oh-gong = BDE *fans herself* 🥵

A++ super-heroine story, bad side characters

First, every girl should aspire to find a Min-hyuk in their life. Someone who'll love them because of their strength, and support them unconditionally. Someone who won't ask them to change or pretend to be somebody else.

Second, western media should learn that a super-heroine can HAVE IT ALL—the superpowers AND the love AND the family.

My only complaint with the show (and that's why I gave A- instead of A++) is the inclusion of many cringy side characters/situations that spoiled my overall enjoyment (see the caricatural flamboyant gay co-worker, Bong-soon’s mom hitting her dad, the mobsters...)

I liked how the show normalizes therapy and taking care of your mental health.

The Fake Marriage AU you’re looking for, mixed with slices of modern, messy, complicated life.

The main storyline revolves around Ji-ho an assistant drama screenwriter who struggles to find her place within the patriarchal structure of Korean society, and Se-hee, a socially incompetent computer designer who only cares for his cat and his mortgage. The way they end up in a fake marriage as well as the development of their relationship feels organic and doesn’t rely too heavily on comedy like it’s often the case with that trope.

The show also follows the stories of Ji-ho’s friends, Su-ji and Ho-rang who have different aspirations in life—Su-ji’s goal is to become CEO while Ho-rang only cares about becoming a housewife. I loved that the show makes a point to not pit women against each other and advocate living your life the way YOU want rather than trying to follow societal expectations of what love, work and marriage should look like.

Also they have the cutest cat.

Unless you want to learn how fucked up the private health sector is becoming in Korea, there's not much to gain watching this show.

The story starts off well though. The problem is that by the middle of the series the writers have dropped the main mystery (the circumstances surrounding the death of the director) to deliver an exposé on the political machinations of big corporations, and then shoehorn an explanation at the last minute (“it was all but a misunderstanding”). Very underwhelming.

The relationship between the two brothers played by Lee Dong-wook and Lee Kyu-hyung is the only bright spot.

Lee Jong-suk and Park Shin-hye have great chemistry and deliver a stellar performance as “uncle” and “niece” (not related by blood) who can’t fight the romantic feelings they harbor for one another. The main storyline has enough twists to keep you entertained and surprised.

My only complaint is that it drags a little. 16 episodes would have been enough.

Park Ji-eu (the writer) read the little mermaid and decided to give her a happy ending. Great chemistry between Lee Min-ho and Jun Ji-hyun but the spark is missing for me.

The antics of modern-day mermaid Shim Cheong are a little predictable and Joon-jae needs to be less of a control freak at times but the story remains enjoyable. I was pleasantly surprised to see Shim Cheong’s character grow, making the power imbalance between the clueless mermaid and the con-artist less pronounced by the end of the series.

The side characters are interesting but underused, and I wish Tae-oh was more developed. On the other hand, the Joseon area sets and costumes are absolutely gorgeous (Don’t tell anyone but Joseon!Lee Min-ho is hotter than Modern!Lee Min-ho 🥵)

If you’ve ever been bullied for your looks, you’re gonna bawl your eyes out.

The show does a great job of calling out the unhealthy beauty standards imposed on Korean women but the topic is universal enough for the story to resonate with everyone. I love that you never see Mi-rae’s old face because it’s not our perception of her lack of beauty that matters but the fact she suffers greatly. Don’t you hate in western shows when they take a beautiful actress, give her a pair of glasses or a fat suit and call her ugly, making sure the audience feels shittier about themselves? Here, the writers concentrate on Mi-rae’s transformation and her coping with the consequences of her decision to do plastic surgery.

It’s also not a revenge fantasy where the ugly duckling suddenly becomes the most popular girl at school. Being a “Gangnam beauty” leads to a new form of suffering.

Romance-wise, it’s the slowest burn of slow burns because Mi-rae and Do Kyung-seok are the most socially awkward beans on the planet. I love them, Your Honor.

The story of a guy who puts on a dress to investigate a village of widows could have gone very wrong but it was well handled. It’s refreshing to see the classic trope of posing as the opposite sex reversed and Jang Dong-yoon is never cringy when he’s pretending to be Lady Kim Nok-soon.

Promising premise and lore (I'm interested in reading the original comics now) but the writing fails to deliver an epic romance and a cathartic ending. Moreover, the sets lack imagination (or money?) and in the end I failed to ever feel immersed in a fantasy world.

The unfortunate consequence of the clumsy writing is that the male characters who are meant to be arrogant/confident Gods (Habaek and By-ryeom) sound like they're negging their love interests more than wooing them, and the relationship between Mu-ra and By-ryeom particularly irked me.

What a departure from everything else in that list! Absolutely worth a watch if you enjoy thrillers and shows like Hannibal. If psychological horror isn’t your cup of tea though, you might give it a pass.

The storyline and the characters are a little cliché (it goes with the genre) but the cinematography and photography are fantastic. You can notice how the pension becomes more and more sinister throughout the series via the use of dark greens and browns and pale yellows, as opposed to the mundanity and coldness of the city (greys, and cold blues).

Last but not least, the acting is top-tiers. Im Siwan does a great job at portraying Jong-woo, an aspiring crime novelist who slowly loses his marbles but the true revelation for me is Lee Dong-wook. After seeing him so many times in roles where he plays awkward yet charming men who can barely express emotions, I was intrigued to see him take on the role of a serial killer, and holy cow, he's the perfect mix of sinister and alluring. Towards the end of the series, his character Moon-jo acts like a black-hole whenever he appears in a scene—a towering, dark presence who sucks the light out of the room (If he carries any of that darkness in the upcoming Tale of Gumiho, it’s gonna be *chef kiss*).

That's a lot of episodes considering the story starts with the ending.

Did I enjoy this show? Yes, very much so. Do I think it's for everyone? Nope.

You'll enjoy Empress Ki if you're into old-school historical sagas or you wished Game of thrones had no gratuitous nudity and violence. If you’re looking for an historically accurate biography of the real empress Ki though, then look away because Empress Ki is basically a lengthy fanfiction trying to justify how the Goryeo native Seung-nyang married the wimpy Emperor of the Yuan dynasty whilst trying to portray her as loyal to her motherland and to her first love, the Crown Prince of Goryeo.

Personally, I didn’t care for the love triangle formed by Seung-nyang (Ha Ji-won), Wang-yoo (Joo Jin-mo) and Toghon Temür (Ji Chang-wook) but I liked the politics and the backstabbing. Also, contrary to GoT, the bad guys get their comeuppance at the end so it makes watching the side characters die less painful.

How do I put it? It's not *terribad* but it's not *good* either.

I was super on board with the concept—if Lee Seung-gi can bang a nine-tailed fox in My girlfriend is a gumiho, I have zero issues with Sol ah, our heroine, falling in love with Hong-jo the cat-person after being dumped for no reason by Jae-sun her boyfriend—but it didn’t exactly develop that way, and as soon as they explained why Jae-sun had broken up with Sol-ah, the writers lost me because I like when things happen for a reason.

You know how the meme goes... Sometimes a family is a hot-tempered bar owner, a cursed kid and an ex-Afterlife-Police officer with a secret past.

It took me a few episodes to get into it, but once the characters were established it became really enjoyable.

The tone of the series leans toward wacky but the core of the story is actually pretty dark if you look into it. Every grudge they solve for their “clients” gives a clue about Wol-joo’s personal story and by the last episode I was crying my eyes out.

Last but not least, Wol-joo’s collection of modernized hanboks is *chef kiss*

An enjoyable action drama to watch with your family or your significant other.

Koreans prove that you can write a story about a black ops agent on the run who becomes a childminder without reeking of toxic masculinity. Contrary to American comedies where the manly-man-hero working undercover is incompetent and believes that working with children is a woman’s job and a waste of his manly-man talents until he has an epiphany of some sorts, Kim Bon (played by So Ji-sub) never once expresses discomfort to the idea of looking after two kids. In spite of his sober demeanor, he’s a caring and attentive person from the start and watching him gradually becoming a part of this spunky family while investigating a national security threat made my heart go awww.

Opposite him, fearless and resourceful mom Go Ae-rin (played Jung In-sun) brings a lot of energy, and the twins are absolutely adorable.

#45 Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo

Don’t get attached—Moon Lovers is the missing link between Empress Ki and Boys over flowers, but with a sad ending.

I did binge watch the series but there are some frustrating aspects to it that prevented me from giving a perfect score, notably the fact that Wang So remains possessive and demanding with Hae Soo throughout the years—for instance “You’re my person” is a romantic statement until it evolves into “You can never leave me.”

The other problem of the series is that Lee Ji-eun (UI) does cute and goofy really well, but she doesn’t have the emotional range needed to portray a character who goes through many heartbreaks and betrayals. As a result, Hae Soo appears a little fickle in her infatuations with the princes.

That being said if you’re a sucker for tragic romance and you believe that power corrupts even the purest of love, you’ll have a blast.

The characters and the story are a little cliché but who doesn’t love a story where the protagonists are clearly attracted to each other but can’t act on their desires because their moral values are opposite?

San Hyeok is your typical heartless businessman who refuses to confront his childhood trauma, and Yeong Jae is a surgeon who suffers from panic attacks and cares too much about other people. They’re both good looking and fate brings them to a remote village in the middle of the forest where they have to share a house. Really, I wonder what’s gonna happen?

#47 100 Days My Prince / Hundred days husband

Cute and charming but also very annoying at times. Obviously, the story is tropey af (fake marriage doubled with amnesia, you can’t really beat that) but it also includes elements I’ve never seen in any other dramas like the fact that the Crown Princess is pregnant with another man’s child (le gasp!). The things that annoy me the most were the unnecessary flip-flopping of the heroine towards the end of the show for the sake of creating artificial drama (just let them be together FFS!) and the fact that the male characters take a lot of decisions for Yeon Hong-shim.

Romance wise, Do Kyung-soo and Nam Ji-hyun are really cute together but in the end I found myself more interested in the political intrigue and the side characters than the main romance because slow burn has its limit. In essence, it’s the perfect drama to watch with your conservative family because whilst the main couple is living under the same roof and is technically married they don’t get frisky.

Angsty with a good pay-off.

With a premise like that, things could have gone wrong really quickly but the writers managed to write a story that isn’t a man wanting to fuck a robot because real women are scary so big kudos for them. Seeing Min-kyu celebrating his Roomba’s birthday because he has no other friends will instantly melt your heart and from that point on you’ll cheer for his recovery. The show has the right amount of angst without becoming a mess and they handle the big reveal very well, making sure to show how hurt both Min-kyu and Ji-ah are by the situation, without making you doubt that they can find each other again. The other strong point of the show is that it’s not just about romance, it’s also about friendship and learning to let other people in your life.

The acting is incredible to the point that by the end I wondered if Yoo Seung-ho and Chae Soo-bin were making out in front of my salad or if I was still watching the characters Min-kyu and Ji-ah being lovey dovey.

#49 Sungkyunkwan Scandal (성균관 스캔들)

Hana zakari no kimi tachi he with gats.

This show checks so many boxes when it comes to my favourite tropes story-wise and character-wise that I instantly fell in love with it. It might feel a little dated for a younger audience and it definitely suffers from the second male lead syndrome (who wants unseasoned boiled chicken when there are not just one but two juicy rotisserie chickens on the table next to you?!) but it’s still very much enjoyable. Also, they don’t shy away from using the word “homosexuality” and having one of the second lead confessing to having romantic feelings for his friend (I’ll take any scrap of bi-representation, okay?)

Found family.

In spite of one ridiculous plot twist (that I was aware of when I started the show) this show has made me feel all the feelz. The three main actors all did a phenomenal job portraying their characters in all their complexity and fragility and I ended up crying so many cathartic tears in the second to last & the last episodes.The relationship between Sang-tae and Gang-tae is one of the best sibling relationships I’ve seen on-screen in a long time while the romance between Moon-yeong and Gang-tae blends perfectly elements of comedy and melodrama. Mental illness isn’t treated as something to be ashamed of, whilst showing that you can grow and recover from trauma and finding your own happiness.

PSA from my boyfriend, who dropped the show before the end:

The plot twist is so stupid that it takes away from the rest of the series. In my opinion it negated the positive portrayal of mental illness built up until then. They completely lost me.

Jisung feels exactly as Juliet does in Act IV; he, too, would suffer in order for his love for you to remain pure. Venomous snakes, giant bears, and even being buried alive sound fairly doable. Seeing you with Hyunjin is a different story, however. He’s not even in Act IV, but he insists on watching you from backstage. Yugyeom and Ryujin seem to have taken a liking to him, and Jisung wants to shout that Hwang Hyunjin isn’t all that great.

He has no evidence of that, but he just feels it in his heart.

In the spare minute you’re not performing or playing a “dead” body on stage, you’re waiting in the wings with Hyunjin by your side, praising you for your acting. You beam at his compliments and say, “It’s all because we practiced in class today.”

Hyunjin shares a class with you, drama most likely. Fantastic. Absolutely amazing. Jisung only sees you at rehearsal, but you’re both always preoccupied with other things, so he doesn’t even get to be with you that long. He feels a twinge of envy, and it grows when you seemingly allow Hyunjin to playfully tug at the sash around your waist.

He abruptly turns to Changbin and asks, “When do you think dinner’s going to be?”

"I don't know. After this act?"

"How many scenes are there?"

He flips through his binder. "Five. And we’re on the second one. Are you hungry already?”

“Just asking. Thanks.”

“Sure.”

Only a short distance away, Hyunjin gently turns you around and ties the loose sash back into a neat bow. He’s slow and methodical, and Jisung knows he’s doing so on purpose. Anger flares throughout his body, and he stares daggers at the back of Hyunjin’s head. You don’t look bothered though. You play with your fingers while quietly thanking him. Ryujin is nearby; she could have done it, Jisung bitterly thinks.

You nearly miss your cue because of Hyunjin’s antics and are forced to run on stage. Jisung feels a smug grin forming from his vindication, so he quickly tucks his nose into the collar of his shirt, pretending to be cold from the air conditioning.

“Hey, Jisung, right?”

“Yes,” he replies, slowly drawing out the ‘e.’ What does Hyunjin want with him?

He sits down on the coffin beside Jisung. “Well, Y/N said you were a big Shakespeare fan, and I was wondering if you could give me some advice on how to portray Romeo. Ms. Park’s advice isn’t really helping me, so I thought maybe yours would. Since, you know, you like Shakespeare’s plays.”

“S-sure.”

Should he give him good advice? Bad? It’s probably going to be all bad since he doesn’t really like Romeo, let alone Romeo and Juliet.

“Thanks. I don’t really know how to play Romeo. It’s really hard to be him when I know that he’s just a dumb, horny teenager.”

Jisung thinks that’s exactly what Hyunjin is, but he digresses. “Just pretend to be maddeningly in love with Juliet. That’s, like, the entire plot.”

He sighs. “I can’t say those things to Y/N. I physically can’t. Every time I do, I get red and embarrassed. When she looks at me, it’s even worse. You know how Romeo says Juliet is the sun? That’s exactly what Y/N is.”

A strangled noise leaves Jisung’s mouth. To his horror, he knows exactly what Hyunjin is describing.

“You get me, right? There’s just something about her.”

He doesn’t say anything, just stares at you on stage. You’re worrying about the sleeping draught actually being poison, but even anguish looks pretty on you. His own anguish is the opposite. His head hurts, his heart is erratic, his foot repeatedly taps the floor. Hyunjin looks over at Jisung, waiting expectantly for an answer.

“Jisung?”

“I can’t help you,” he blurts out, not looking at him. “There’s— there’s nothing helpful I can tell you if you can’t say those lines.”

“Yeah, I guess that’s true,” he sighs. “Thanks anyway.”

Hyunjin finally leaves him alone, but Jisung can’t bring himself to watch you as closely. He always had an inkling of a feeling that Hyunjin was interested in you, but he could never tell if he was flirting or just being Hyunjin. Now that he knows the truth, Hyunjin looks different, and you kind of do too. You’re less bright, while Hyunjin’s turning into a muddy gray color.

The rest of Act IV goes swimmingly, with only some redos. Just like Changbin predicted, dinner break starts when the act ends. Jisung chooses to walk to the convenience store with Chan and Jeongin even though he brought food from home. He doesn’t want to face Hyunjin or you after what he just learned. Jeongin asks about why he isn’t working lights like usual, and he makes up some excuse about wanting to work on homework during rehearsal.

You’re the real reason why.

“But you don’t even do homework. Ryujin says you just space out and stare off in the distance,” he protests.

“Things didn’t go as planned,” he shrugs. “Does anyone like doing homework?”

At the convenience store, Jisung hesitates in front of the chip aisle, thinking back to when Hyunjin gave you a bag. It only takes a few seconds for him to decide before he snatches two off the rack.

Jisung finishes his dinner of rice balls on the walk back, but he doesn’t start on his chips. Is it strange that he wants to share chips with you, just like how you did with Hyunjin? The activity was so mundane, but Jisung feels like that part is missing from his relationship with you. All you and him talk about is theater, but he’s never going to be more than your theater buddy if theater is the only thing you two have in common.

After dinner, the final act begins, and Jisung is unusually worried about the kiss scene, despite knowing that you are too shy to kiss for now. He rotates between sitting down on the prop bench and getting up for water he isn’t thirsty for. Hyunjin, instead, skips over it, and Jisung can breathe again. When Juliet wakes up from the sleeping draught, you’re supposed to kiss him before stabbing yourself with the dagger. As he expected and hoped, you skip over that step as well. His breathing slows and returns to a more reasonable pace.

The act ends with the Capulet and Montague families making peace with each other and deciding to erect golden statues of their dead children to memorialize the tragedy. There’s a few cries of disbelief and astonishment in the comms at such a stupid conclusion, and Jisung is one of them. He hates this play so much. You’re the only tolerable thing about it.

Ms. Park makes you and Hyunjin go over the death scenes again and reminds you that she expects real kisses before opening night. You and Hyunjin turn similar shades of red, while Jisung goes pale at the thought. Like nothing happened, she requests all the actors come in the auditorium to practice the curtain call. All of the tech crew gets a round of applause and cheering from the actors after, and the comms are filled with tech’s own cheers.

Because it’s Friday, rehearsal ends an hour earlier than normal. Tech notes are shorter than usual, especially when Mr. Gi reveals that he wants to go home to watch his favorite show. Jisung receives some praise for improving throughout the week, but the floor crew overall still need to tidy up some of the blackouts. Once he moves on to lights, Jisung tunes them out and discreetly scrolls through your Instagram throughout the rest of notes. You look very pretty in white.

“Good job, guys, and have a good weekend.”

That’s their cue to go home. The actors are already lining down the auditorium aisles to hand their mics to Chan. Jisung spots you behind Capulet, discussing alternative death scenes with Hyunjin. You’re standing right in front of him, so you have to tilt your head far back in order to look at him while talking. Hyunjin mimes stabbing you, and you double over, clutching your stomach in pretend pain. He fakes horror and drinks from an invisible vial. It’s like the two of you are in your own bubble, and Jisung’s watching through a window.

He gets up and decides to wait in the classroom. As he walks back up onto the stage, he can hear you and Hyunjin dying from laughter. He hits the main curtain particularly hard while making his way backstage. He still wants to give you the bag of chips, but Hyunjin seems to be keeping you from him. The classroom is mostly empty, and people occasionally come in to get their belongings and leave. You finally come in, and you’re back in your normal clothes. He wonders how you’re not freezing in shorts, but that’s not important right now. Hyunjin is nowhere in sight.

“Hey,” he calls.

You brush your bangs to the side before looking in his direction. “Hey.”

“Any chance you’re hungry? I bought an extra bag by accident,” he says, holding up a bag of chips.

You laugh, and his heart rate increases. “A lot of our conversations seem to be about food. I’m getting food after, but thanks anyway.” When Jisung visibly deflates, you ask, “Everything okay?”

“Yeah,” he lies. He stacks the bag on top of the other bag and rests his hand on top. “I don’t wanna give it to Jeongin. He’s probably going to ask once he sees I have two.”

“You could just eat both bags.”

“Maybe. I might also end up in the hospital for sodium poisoning though.”

You laugh again, and he turns pink with pride. However, the universe must be against him because Hyunjin appears in the door frame. You greet him with significantly more enthusiasm. Hyunjin collects his belongings, and his right hand twirls a car key. Jisung’s mouth starts forming a frown, and it deepens when Hyunjin says to you, “You ready?”

“Yeah.” You sling your backpack over your shoulder and pick up your textbook from the table. “See you Monday, Jisung.”

He says, “See you,” too late once again. With a huff of annoyance, he grabs his things and follows you two to the parking lot while staying a safe distance behind. Your textbook is now in Hyunjin’s hand, and you’re scrolling through something on your phone. He realizes with a start that you are reading off frozen yogurt flavors. When Hyunjin asks which flavor you’re going to get, you select strawberry cheesecake.

When Jisung is finally in his car, he turns up the volume on the radio and peels out of the parking lot, his hands gripping the steering wheel for dear life. In the passenger seat sits two bags of chips, unopened.

mae is JUST. SO. Kdrama recommendations!

I’ve been wanting to do this for some time, so now I’m doing it! Here are a few of my favorite shows that I think you’ll enjoy!

1. Legend of the Blue Sea

Genres: Comedy, Drama, Fantasy, Romance

Episodes: 20, ~60 min

Summary: A mermaid decides to follow a man she meets back to Seoul after saving him. There she tries to adjust to the modern human world all the while trying to keep her supernatural side hidden, but still let her feelings bloom. The man she follows is a skilled con-man, who lives together with his two roommates, conning rich people out of their money, and evading the police. The drama is set in modern times, but with a parallel story from the Joseon era unfolding, letting us get a look at their past lives.

Why I recommend it: It’s hard to say exactly why - because when I was watching it, I really didn’t think it was that special - but when I finished it, I suddenly found myself thinking about it and almost missing the characters. Lee Min Ho and Jun Ji Hyun together in the leading roles were brilliant, and I think their chemistry was great; his reluctance mixed with her eagerness. I also liked the supporting cast and characters.

The comedy was great, the storyline was great (and the romance was really good!), and the ending was nice and fulfilling. I think Lee Min Ho’s acting was great, and I really liked his character - he has a certain charisma that is hard to deny, and his voice is very soothing.

Why you might not like it: If you’re not a fan of Joseon era dramas, then you might find the “flashbacks” (if you can call them that) boring or unnecessary. Also, if you’re prone to second-hand embarrassment, then the few first episodes might be hard for you to handle. If you’re not a fan of family drama and the trope where the stepmom comes into the picture and kicks out the biological child, then you might not like it. Other than that, I recommend that you give it a go!

2. The Fiery Priest

Genres: Comedy, Detective, Investigation, Mystery

Episodes: 40, ~25-30 min

Summary: A catholic priest with a shady past and anger management issues meets and teams up with a detective from the Gudam Police Station in their joint investigation into the murder of an elderly priest. Together they have to try and detangle a web of bribes and mafia connections to get to the bottom of the murder.

Why I recommend it: It’s honestly so funny and got a whole bunch of really interesting characters. Kim Nam Gil looks absolutely stunning, and the action scenes (quite a few) are really good and the dialogue is always snappy and fast paced. All the female characters are great, and differ from each other and from the usual tropey way female characters are written. I just feel like I have to say that it’s really funny one more time! Because it is, and not in the childish way some comedic kdramas are written, but in a genuinely good way. Please go watch!

Why you might not like it: It’s not that it’s slow per se, more that it’s a bit though trying to watch the first episodes (up to episode 10, or 5, if you watch them in pairs) because nothing seems to go the leads way. His clues end up being covered up, and when he thinks he got the upper hand he doesn’t. That all changes after a while tho, so stay with it! Also, if you don’t watch kdramas without romance, then this isn’t the one for you, because there’s no romantic plot. And, since he’s a priest, there are some jokes about religion - so you have to be comfortable with that.

3. Tomorrow With You

Genres: Drama, Fantasy, Melodrama, Romance

Episodes: 16, ~60 min

Summary: A man who can travel through time by taking the subway never manages to travel past a specific date, the day he dies. No matter how hard he tries to change his life, his future won’t change. So he decides to find the woman who is in the same accident as him, and who he later learns dies at the exact time as him in the hospital. He decides to marry her, to try and save her from her own fate - and by extension, himself from his fate. Slowly, he falls in love with her, despite not marrying her for the right reasons.

Why I recommend it: It’s a really good story, with great actors, and great chemistry between the leads. I love Shin Min Ah, and she shines in this role. The romance feels very natural, and there’s a lot of cute moments because they get married fairly early in the drama. There’s also a surprisingly shortage of plotholes, despite being a time-travel story (which tend to get messy and tangled up). It’s a really heart-warming drama.

Why you might not like it: If you’re not a fan of the female lead being “strung along” you might not like the few first episodes. To be honest, that’s the only thing I can think of, that might put people off. It’s honestly a great drama.

4. Thirty But Seventeen

Genres: Comedy, Romance

Episodes: 32, ~30 min

Summary: A girl ends up in an accident, and falls into a coma for 13 years. When she wakes up, she’s 30 years old and has to engage with the world in a totally different way than before. One day, she decides to go home, but is shocked when she realises that her remaining family moved on without her, and that someone else lives in her old house. Through a series of misunderstandings and comedic accidents, she ends up living in the house with the current owner, and together they manage to open up a window to happiness that they had thought closed.

Why I recommend it: It’s such a sweet and heart-warming story, and I was soft for almost the whole cast the whole way through. Even though the premise was a bit off-putting for me (she moves in with a 30 yr old male, isn’t she still 17 in her head??) they really resolved it in a good way, and it wasn’t creepy at all. Even though she was pretty naive, and new to stuff like getting a job or figuring out cell phones, she was never taken advantage of. They build such a sweet relationship based on trust and loyalty, it’s so niceee.

Why you might not like it: if you don’t like the trope where characters almost meet but not quite - always a few steps behind or in front - then you might be a bit irritated by this drama, because it happens quite a lot. If you also don’t like a case of mistaken identity, then that’s also one of the tropes in this drama - though it is resolved in a very satisfying way.

5. Splash Splash Love

Genres: Fantasy, Historical, Romance

Episodes: 2, ~60 min

Summary: A girl is transported back to the Joseon era on a rainy day, where she ends up at the palace. Disguising herself as a young eunuch, she ends up falling in love with the king when she tutors him in math.

Why I recommend it: I just love this mini-series. I wish there was at least 15 episodes more of it, because it’s so great. I love Kim Seul Gi in the leading female role, and the plot is so sweet and funny and lovely that I always return to it when I’m feeling down. The romance is great as well, and I’ve heard that many say it ends the way Scarlet Heart should have ended. Please go give it a watch, you won’t regret it.

Why you might not like it: idk, if you don’t like historical dramas, then this might not be right up your alley, but since she’s a modern girl in a historical story it might make it easier for you. Please just watch it.

MY CATU LIVEBLOG

I did it for the crossover, so I thought i’d do it for the new movie (Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe, for those unaware of the acronym)!

TLDR: 8/10 not canon, but surprisingly good nevertheless.

Good: character interactions, dialogue (hilarious), everyone was involved, nice use of Chekhov's guns, absolutely EPIC background music

Bad: off-model issues, animation kind of flash-esque at times, the color palette was more like MML than PnF (more saturated and oddly shaded with clashing colors), overly long gags/pacing problems, immersion-breaking/stereotypical sound effects sometimes, some OOC

Ahh, i've missed Candace's singing.

WAIT A SECOND, WHY DOES HER CHARACTER MODEL LOOK SO MEATY (her head shape is blobby, too)

Oh my god, the entire Hirano family a minute in....i'm living.

Hmmm, the pyramid sports thing was from "Thanks But No Thanks," which is a Season 4 episode. In that episode, Vanessa is dating Monty, which only happened after "Minor Monogram" in Season 3. We know that Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension takes place in July after "Candace Loses Her Head" (since Doof's Drill-inator from that episode is scene in ATSD), but also before or around "Great Balls of Water" (since it's July in that episode) and definitely before "This is Your Backstory" (2D!Doof's advice to Doof is referenced)/"Road to Danville" (Phineas' trust gesture is referenced)/"Fly on the Wall" (the summer song gets referenced). LONG STORY SHORT: if ATSD took place in July, when the fridge does CATU take place if we're considering it canon?

Seriously, her off-modelness is super distracting to me. It was fine that she essentially had a triangle silhouette because she also had stick limbs, but giving her realistically meaty limbs makes me question why the rest of her is shaped like that. Bad.

That is some EPIC opening music!

Okay, the weird shading on that clown is also super distracting. PnF's design aesthetic is light and bright....I wonder if the MML people worked on this movie or something (which would also explain Candace's odd meatiness).

Why are all the lines so thick????? It looks like one of those low-budget toonboom or whatever animations Disney posts to YouTube.

Hmmmmm, Doof did the "evenly matched" thing in "Doofapus," too.

OH MY GOD, THE SATURATED COLORS + DARKNESS + THICK LINES ARE SOOOOOOOOO UGLYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY.

Bwahahahahaha, that pause when Candace is like "Actually, yes, WTF is it now?" is hilarious.

I like the detail of how all the kids' bikes are lying there in the driveway.

I would've just grabbed Linda's head and turned it at that point, honestly.

Linda is telling Candace calmly that she's exhausted...WHEN DOES THIS MOVIE TAKE PLACE?!!!!

Phineas is like "Candace wasn't having fun this summer? D:" but, like, if this movie takes place in the middle....they sure as heck didn't acknowledge it for the entire rest of the summer. HRGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, THIS IS WHY YOU CAN'T JUST RETROACTIVELY INSERT EVENTS IN THE MIDDLE OF A SERIES: WE KNOW HOW THE REST OF THE SUMMER/THEIR LIVES TURNED OUT.

Why is Perry's wrist communicator a square. It's a circle throughout the entire series.

Does Vanessa have a scooter license? Do you need a license to ride a scooter? She was complaining in "Vanessassary Roughness" that she was always riding on the back of Doof's scooter, so I assumed she didn't. We did learn in "Finding Mary McGuffin" that she knows how to drive/has her license in "This is Your Backstory," does that count?

WAIT, WHY IS VANESSA SO PINK???? SHE AND DOOF ARE SUPPOSED TO BE A DIFFERENT SHADE OF WHITE (more coffee-toned) FROM THE FLYNN-FLETCHERS. Goddang, I had always appreciated how even the white characters were all different shades from each other in PnF....what a letdown.

Mmmm, characters either willingly engage in diegetic music in this show ("Where's Pinky?"), or it's just an imagine spot/non-diegetic. "Why do I have a guitar?" is not something that should be said.

Hmmmmmmmm, Candace is faulting the universe.......in ATSD she's talking about the Mysterious Force.....HMMMMMMMMM.....

Sounds like that was what Vanessa used to stop her Evil Busting phase...nice. Also, i'm only ~7 minutes into this movie, but i've spent the last 30 minutes watching it.

Hey, astute observation! That's what I always say: Candace wants to bust her brothers both because their projects can get dangerous ("Happy Birthday Isabella"/"Picture This"/"The Great Indoors"/ATSD/etc), and because she feels overshadowed by them/that they can get away with more than her ("Gi-Ants"/"For Your Ice Only"/"Love at First Byte")!

OH MY GOD, SHE ACTUALLY SAID "...completely overshadowed by Phineas and Ferb?" HOLY VALIDATION BATMAN

Man, i've said it before about Vanessa's deconstruction of Doof's motivations in "Last Day of Summer," but she would make a great therapist or something. I hope she goes into Psychology in the future.

HMmmm, I do kind of wish it was with Stacy that she had this breakthrough with, considering how Stacy's been her best friend since they were 5 years old ("Phineas and Ferb Save Summer")/she's only known Vanessa since "Phineas and Ferb: Summer Belongs to You!" somewhere in June. Like, I get that Vanessa is more in-tune with psychological stuff like this and it makes sense, but i’m just a Stacy fan at heart

Hmmm, cutaway gags like I remember MML doing...still too Family Guy for my tastes, especially with it being overly long. (I'm also not pleased with how Baljeet's half-lidded eyes goes straight across instead of bending over the curvature of his eye like what PnF usually does....the straight thing is also Family Guy/South Park's style. This does not bode well.)

I am enjoying it more than the MML crossover so far, so that's good, though.

Okay, -1000 points for the Floss. I hate it so much. You know what you'd be flossing if you did that with real rope? POOP. GROSS. Bring back Baljeet dabbing if you're going to make a reference like that, dabbing is fun.

Okay, this song is officially going on for too long. I know the overly long gag thing is a Family Guy staple, too. U G H, leave that horribleness out of my wholesome cartoons, please. Goddang, the influence was even in WBB's movie, too (Panda's dead pose). The Horribleness Lovers are infiltrating the animation industry. (How do I know about the Horribleness if I don't watch Family Guy/South Park? From people making infoposts about how horrible they are + reading up on their wikias/watching YouTube analyses of them, of course. Knowledge is power, and you must know your enemy.)

Seriously, open the freaking door. All of these overly long gags are not only unfunny, they eat up the runtime. PnF has great pacing where it's not too fast (Wander Over Yonder was sometimes too fast), but spends enough time on the things that need it. Opening a door is not something that needs time, especially when it's following up an overly long song.

I bet they're going to extract the element from her or something.

Hmm, I know that Doof didn't realize how futile rotating the moon was in "The Doof Side of the Moon" and what a boat was in "Are You My Mummy?" but he tends to be smart about intricate science stuff. Like, the problem with his inators (he even says it himself in "Phineas and Ferb Save Summer") is that he executes them poorly, not that he's failing in other aspects. Like, is this is the same scientist that built a Re-Good inator solely from plane parts in "Where's Perry?"

BALJEET, NO. Also, is it in character for him to be so gung-ho about trying out this unprecedented maneuver? I know he does have a wild side, but it's not usually about science things/throwing things that require this much caution to the wind.

I have to say, I love it when Stacy and Jeremy are on the same side, since Candace was sidelining Stacy in favor of spending time with Jeremy for a while (to the point where "Canderemy" happened).

Mmm, I notice a trend in cartoons lately about applying psychology to things. Amphibia, SPOP, Steven Universe...it's nice to get kids used to the idea that introspection is healthy.

Okay, did they just...fly from another planet? The gang went beyond light speed to get back home....there's atmosphere issues....they didn't even bother to try and have them salvage the space suits from the inator even though characters in PnF can't survive in space/always have to wear a space suit (Doof even puffed up in "Out to Launch" when he stuck his head outside without a helmet on, and Perry made sure to put a helmet on him when he was going spaceward in "The Doof Side of the Moon")?

Welp, it took me 5 hours to watch this 1 hr 24 min movie...wowza. I forgot to write it when they occurred, but I didn’t like that the alien lady’s blinking had a sound effect in that one scene or that they used the Wilhelm scream during the final battle. I do wish there’d been more Perry and Doof interactions + some more Stacy, but what we did get was good. There were some pacing problems (too much alien screentime), but the excellent interactions between the PnF gang made up for them. Also, I genuinely laughed at at least two handfuls of moments! Anyway: a good movie!! I'm shocked--i'm so picky, and I haven't liked anything since "Last Day of Summer!" I mean, it's definitely an OVA/not canon, but still!! Solid 8/10.

had nisrina been the answer to a couple that longed for a family ? no , not even close . she was a solution . the product of desperation that panicked at the discussion of divorce and a future lost of riches : for the vasquez’s , marriage was not fabricated to contain genuineness , but to benefit both parties while providing a stable front to the media . what was expected from one another was not love , it was to withhold the agreement that landed two bodies muttering the words , “ i do , “ . a child ? was never spoken of , nor wanted . getting pregnant was a hidden trick of manipulation , silent words of leave me and your unborn child now and see what happens .

nisrina was a pawn in her mother’s selfish games , an accessory placed in matching outfits and paraded around . motherhood ? it was everything sabine has ever dreamed of . so much that the minute the door closed , the minute the camera’s clicked off , nisrina was placed in whoever’s hands were the closest and dismissed . such a loving mother , right ?

so where’s nisrina’s father in all of this ? the hotel tycoon was the complete opposite from his cold hearted wife . aloof and stern melting into a surprising pool of pure tenderness for his child . he might have been angry at getting stuck in sabine’s trap , but that anger never looked at his daughter ; while ezequiel never dreamed of fatherhood , he embraced it . it taking all of one second of staring down at his daughter’s face to understand that she was now his sun .

growing up in the presence of someone who’s honest about their lack of desire to be a parent , was not something nisrina could stay ignorant to for too long . her innocence normalizing it until she was old enough to perceive the world around her . after that , it became something that was sitting right in front of her face . it was in the books she read , the movies she watched , and in the feeling she got as she surveyed her friends mother’s who looked down at them with tenderness spilling from their hues .

nisrina , she clung to the good in those around her ; no matter how many times those people proved themselves to be anything but deserving of her love . and with her mother ? she tried . again and again , nisrina would reach out for sabine . cry for her affection , plead for an ounce of interest . she could offer gentle smiles , present her achievements , even tried acting out in hopes that it would earn just the slightest reaction .. but nothing ever worked , in fact it seemed to just drive sabine away . until eventually , nisrina was pushed into the arms of a nanny and sabine was on a plane to whatever country would get her the farthest from her daughter .

ezequiel smothered nisrina , went to the extreme lengths to get her anything and everything she could ever want . he wanted to fill the hole that sabine engraved in her , swore that if nisrina would let him , he’d love her enough for the both of them .

with sabine always mia , and her father never staying too long in one place for work , nisrina would be pulled from public school , and enrolling in private studies . giving her the opportunity to learn without being present in a school setting , and allowing her father to bring her along with him . nisrina would go from an empty house with staff members to her father and his hotel staff . not the biggest difference , but to have her father always one room away made her feel less lonely .

during these years , she would only speak to her mother less then three times a year .. but at that point ? she was long over begging her for affection . the media would brand her as a daddy’s girl , the future face of the vasquez hotel chains . her life could consist of penthouses , ruling the hotel kitchen , running aimlessly around hallways , singing in the dinning hall , and finding family in the strangest of places . her father would expand from las vegas , to new york , to the caribbeans , and eventually to italy .

before her eighteenth birthday , her father would divorce sabine officially . putting all of his assets in his daughters name . this would cause chaos in the media , and land sabine on their front steps in false tears and apologizes that meant absolutely nothing to either of them . two year later , sabine would remarry and final ties would be cut forever .

where is nisrina now ? nisrina is located in the beautiful city of new york , in hopes of gaining peace and mind to construct her first album since being signed a year ago . she is still an absolute daddy’s girl and has an insanely close relationship with him . constantly on the mission of bettering herself , and moving on from old wounds .

Reviewing Drama’s I Have Watched Pt 2

My rating system goes like this: 1- Did not like, 2- Enjoyed but probably wouldn’t watch again, 3- Enjoyed and would watch some episodes again (or for movies may watch again), 4- Enjoyed and would watch again, 5- Loved

Korean Drama

Strong Girl Do Bong-Soon: 4/5

Strong Girl Do Bong-Soon is about a girl with super strength that is passed down through her family to all the females. She begins working as a bodyguard for the CEO of a gaming company, An Min-Hyuk, who is being targeted for inheriting his father’s company. This is another one that had a love triangle but was well handled so I actually enjoyed it. I love the character dynamics, Do Bong-Soon was strong but still very kind and humble which I think is hard to find anymore. Min-Hyun is arrogant, hilariously dorky, and rather naïve. I started it thinking that it would be funny and cute, and while it definitely was, I was not expecting the darker tones that quickly took over the show.

The Liar and His Lover: 4/5

The Liar and His Lover follow a genius music producer, Han-Kyeol or K, of the band CrudePlay who keeps his identity a secret, and a high school student who dreams of becoming a singer and is a huge fan of CrudePlay and its mysterious producer. It deals with the difficulty of achieving your dream, sticking to your morals, and opening up to love. This was really great, some of the later episodes got a little boring or annoying but overall it was really good. It took me forever to finish though as the episodes were hard to find when I tried to watch them, might be easier to find now though (update: It is now Netflix for some countries). This was the first show I had seen with Red Velvet’s Joy and I must say her acting was really great, she was super cute and really convincing. The song I’m Okay is one of my favorite songs ever, it is so soft and cute. I highly recommend this show.

High School 2013/ School 2013: 4/5

High School 2013 is about the struggles of being both the student and the teacher in a high school. It follows Namsun as he struggles with his past and the guilt from it, while learning to move on. While the main character seems to be Namsun, this show actually follows a lot of other characters stories Mrs. Jeong is an idealist teacher who was assigned to class 2-2 also known as the difficult class as it has many underachieving students. While Jeong believes that all students need is love and support, the new teacher Mr. Kang believes in a more strict, academic side of teaching. The two must learn to get along to help the students cope with both school and life. Meanwhile, many of the students are dealing with problems of their own like bullying, prepping for college, and the traumas of their pasts. Warning: This show does contain triggers such as suicide, abuse, and bullying. I really enjoyed this show, I finished it in exactly a week around school, work, and just general life. To be honest, while I love Namsun and he is my favorite main character, I do have a soft spot for Kim Min-gi, his storyline made me feel all the emotions and he had such amazing character development. I personally think he had one of the best, if not the best story line and character development in the show. Namsun and Heung-Soo was such an amazing storyline and friendship too. I especially love how they didn’t focus on romance at all really and mostly conveyed friendship and it’s own set of struggles which was really refreshing. The ending was a little more bittersweet but I guess that life, you can’t win every time.

Korean Web Drama/ Mini-series

Another Parting: 4/5

Another parting is about an alien who comes to earth for 24 hours to find the reason humans cry and a woman who just lost everything. It is a rather strange mini-drama but still so good and it keeps your attention throughout the whole series. I was confused by the ending, but I would definitely watch it again.

Love for a Thousand More: 2/5

Love for a Thousand More follows an immortal woman who hates men and love but works as a love counselor. When one day, a noisy neighbor moves into the apartment above her, she begins to question her stance on love and men. This show was pretty good but a bit on the boring side for me personally. It had its funny moments and a few plot twists but overall was a little lackluster. It was good during study breaks, but I probably won’t watch it again.

Ma Boy: 5/5

Ma Boy follows Geu-Rim as she enters an arts high school for the elite. She soon finds life at this new school won’t be exactly as she was hoping, especially when her roommate and the schools #1 female CF star, Irene, has a huge secret that Geu-Rim must keep. Absolutely love this one, definitely my favorite mini-drama. I watched this one in between study sessions and it is perfect to relax to and just enjoy for an episode before getting back to studying or just when you want to watch a cute show really quick to cheer yourself up. I will definitely be watching this again when school starts again. It is a bit goofy and cheesy at times but super cute and the parts that are awkward are great for a laugh.

Magic Cell Phone: 4/5

Magic Cell Phone is about a young man whose childhood friend and crush has become a popular idol. When he discovers that she is in a dangerous situation he is determined to protect her. During a walk at night, he comes across a lady who gives him a magic cell phone that allows him to protect his crush only three times, with some very dangerous consequences. I loved this mini-series; it was super cute with a darker twist. The storyline was adorable, and the actor and actress were super cute. I would watch this again when I’m back in school as each episode is the perfect length for a study break.

Unexpected Heroes: 5/5

Unexpected Heroes is about three teenagers who gain superpowers after their respective transplant surgeries. They begin to have dreams about the man who they received the organs from and use their superpowers to find out what really happened and if their donor’s death was really an accident. I love this Web drama so much; I have watched it a few times already and will watch again. It appears to have been set up for a second season however I don’t think there will ever be one which is so unfortunate as I have so many questions.

Chinese Dramas

Meteor Garden: 4.5/5

Meteor Garden is loosely based off the manga Hana Yori Dango, or Boys Over Flowers. When Shancai is accepted into the most prestigious college in China, she thinks school life will be a breeze. Unfortunately, that is not the case once she encounters the F4, a group of rich and handsome seniors who are the most popular, top students in the school. Si, the leader of the F4 who starts out as Shancai’s enemy, begins to fall in love with her, but Shancai has a crush on Lei, Si’s friend and the quiet musician of the F4. I love the dynamics between the F4, you can definitely tell they are childhood friends, and each has a very distinct personality. Some of the characters can get pretty annoying but they are still likable most of the time. At first, I was completely against the main couple and hated them so much. Especially after a certain scene, which I will not spoil but those who have watched it probably know what I’m talking about, but as the show continued, I started liking them more and more. The reason this show has a 4.5 is because I loved it so much and still do love it. However, towards the end it became very repetitive and kind of annoying to watch, almost like they ran out of ideas. I swear I watched the same story arc two to three times just in different cities. Despite the repetitiveness at the end I still love this show so much and would definitely watch again. My friend and I actually binge-watched a solid half of the series in two days during a sleepover, then took about five more days to finish the rest because life happened. It has some awkward parts with both the writing and the visuals but overall really great.

Chinese Web Drama/ Mini-Series

Intouchable: 3/5

Intouchable is about a high school girl whose boyfriend has disappeared after a date. She receives a card and meets a butler who tells her that she has to travel to multiple worlds and eras in order to find all 10 butlers and complete a contract with them in order to get her boyfriend back. This show was pretty enjoyable but rather cringy and confusing at times. They took inspiration from Twilight, Hunger Games, Game of Thrones and I'm sure many other popular books. This was actually one of the first dramas I watched, and I still do enjoy some of the episodes but I'm not too big of a fan. The actors were pretty good, but the storyline and writing could have used some work.
