One small pet peeve I have about Chapter 7 is that it's making Maleficent look like "a victim." This is a personal thing but I always considered the Evil Queen to be Disney's most evil villain, but the title has Maleficent being considered "evil incarnate." And I understand, she has powers and transforms into a dragon. What a cool thing. But on several occasions I feel that content creators who partly work for Disney do not respect that she is an evil being and end up softening her character, either giving her a tragic background or making her a mother. Going back to TWST, the part that bothers me the most is right at the beginning of the chapter, when Yuu dreams about Maleficent and the only option to choose implies that they feel bad for Maleficent for not being invited. And it's like WHAT? Didn't you see that she cursed a baby? Or better yet, why didn't you feel bad for the other villains? And seeing the theories of the most recent update, with the inclusion of the senate and seeing that almost the entire fandom hates them, it makes Maleficent's descendants seem more like victims (which they partly are). Sorry, this is something personal that I wanted to share with someone. But in conclusion, no other medium outside of the original film can well portray Maleficent as the embodiment of evil that she is supposed to be. And yes, I know the Draconia family is not Maleficent but they are still related.

Disclaimer: I’m coming at this from the POV of someone who has no attachment to Maleficent as a character and is frankly confused as to why she’s the Big Bad that Disney chooses to promote as their villainous icon 🤡 so take my opinion with a grain of salt!🧂

To quickly correct something before the discussion: Malleus being a relative or a descendant of Maleficent is NOT canon. It is a popular headcanon, especially during the early days of the TWST fandom when we didn’t have a lot of lore about the Draconia family. From the way Malleus speaks about the Thorn Witch, she is considered a separate ancient entity and not someone he personally knows or has blood ties with.

Knowing that, it somewhat detracts from the points made in this ask 😅 since it seems like the Anon was trying to draw a parallel between Maleficent and Malleus… Conflating Maleficent with Malleus may be the result of mixing up the dreams with the differing mediums and presentations of Maleficent and Malleus in the context of their own works. I feel they can be treated like two entirely separate cases, and with different intentions behind them.

Maleficent has been written as a tragic antihero in the live action movie(s) of the same name. That is one interpretation of her, just as the Descendants Maleficent is much goofier in attitude. They are Disney’s properties and so they are free to twist Maleficent however they wish to suit the circumstances or to chase a modern trend of redemption, even if it’s different than the “mistress of evil” she was introduced as. In my opinion, there is nothing inherently wrong with this (although that doesn’t mean you’re obligated to enjoy or to agree with every iteration of Maleficent or the new direction she’s being led in). This doesn’t automatically make her a “victim” (for lack of a better term) either, she feels more… “girlboss” to me, if that makes sense?? Tragic things do happen to her, but they don’t define Maleficent as an individual (if I recall correctly, she acts on her own and rises up + regains power in spite of humans hating her). I think it’s just a different way to spin a story. However, I can see why maybe this doesn’t bode well to some people who like her for being evil and not for being redeemable.

Malleus is the “final boss” of a gacha game. The intention behind his design is to endear the players to the character so they’re willing to roll for him. That’s why Malleus in particular has a “special” role compared to the other boys, and why they try to establish a friendship with Yuu early on in the main story. He is treated differently in the narrative because of that. We may not necessarily like it or find the method effective, but that’s the design TWST went with. (I’m personally not a fan of this either, it grants Malleus specifically a lot of grace and favoritism that I’m not on board with 😅)

I also want to point out that when the other villains were introduced in Yuu’s dreams, it’s not really in situations that would immediately warrant sympathy. The Queen of Hearts is unreasonably mad, the King of Beasts is plotting against his brother, etc. It’s not that Yuu doesn’t “feel bad” for the others, it’s that the others didn’t give Yuu anything to “feel bad” about right away. For the dream with Maleficent, it’s different: Yuu first learns that she is “unwanted” and THEN she casts her magic. Yuu then fixates on the reason behind Maleficent’s curse (because at this point in the story, we’ve seen 6 cases of how one’s motivations and past fuel one’s actions in the present). The other villains don’t get similar scenes or lines to show off the potential reasoning behind their behaviors (no showing of how the Queen of Heart’s rule benefits her people, no jeering at Scar, etc.) so of course Yuu won’t be as gracious about them.

We should also consider that each of these dreams is prophetic and ties back to the current OB boy’s troubles. In Malleus’s case, loneliness is a huge issue and he’s been Yuu’s “friend” since book 2. These will naturally play into Yuu feeling more sympathy towards Maleficent, who resembles Malleus and is left out like he is. The other OB boys didn’t have this “special” connection, and their issues don’t center so strongly on wanting companionship. If you refer back to Yuu’s dreams of each villain, Yuu’s reactions to each reflect the ongoing dilemma of each boy and their dorm mates, such as wondering why the card soldiers don’t intervene and not understanding why Scar used the methods he did.

That being said, I’m not sure if I agree with the use of “victim” to describe the Draconias. The term’s definition varies by person (and I’m not sure what the asker’s own definition is, so there may be some disagreement here), but personally I see “victim” as a binary. It puts one person in a weak and passive position—with them being the one acted on—and the other person in a position of power—the one doing the acting. It creates an easy “us vs them” narrative. I don’t believe this is the case for any of the TWST characters; to call them “victims” implies a lack of agency to act and a clear good vs evil worldview.

Back to the Draconias. Yes, bad things have happened to them and some of those bad things were the result of the senate’s decisions. That doesn’t make the Draconias (or even Maleficent, in my opinion) “victims”, and certainly not “victims” to the senate alone. There are so many other factors to consider in Malleus being isolated and turning out the way he did. These include, but are not limited to: Maleficia being too busy to spend time with him, his parents being absent, Malleus still managing to meet and interact with Lilia anyway, Malleus himself being so powerful/high status he scares his servants and peers, royals having duties to tend to and thus limited freedoms, previously existing tensions with humans, etc.

TWST does do a lot to make you feel bad for and to pity Malleus. From the moment we first saw him, the “loneliness” of Malleus was a major part of his character. Many factors outside of his control compounded as an unfortunate situation that… wasn’t very conducive for him to grow up feeling normal and loved. It’s not that he was just now made a “victim”, it’s that we’re now getting all the context for why his character is the way it is—and it’s a whole slew of traumas and personal experiences. I would argue the same happens for all the OB boys; this isn’t something exclusive to twisted Maleficent, Malleus. TWST is trying to present these issues with more nuance than the classically evil G7 they were inspired by; the OB boys in general they aren’t defined by their “victimhood, but rather how they respond to and cope with those experiences.

9) Most disliked character(s)? Why?

The Zogratis family is an easy target for this question so I'm gonna extend my reach just a bit more and say...

Alecdora Sandler.

Genuinely, fuck that guy. I know another character that's pretty easy to hate but let me give my why.

He's a character to made to hate on Yuno and everything he does. I hate Alecdora not because he's hating on Yuno. But because he doesn't seem to have an effect on Yuno. Like, Yuno couldn't give an iota of a shit about Alecdora's opinions and just outdoes him because he just happens to be there (yes I know Alecdora intentionally went after Yuno but the Noelle vs Solid confrontation had much more of my attention). I don't need Yuno to internalize Alecdora's hater comments the way Noelle internalizes her siblings' remarks but can I get SOMETHING out of Yuno for having to deal with Alecdora being on his ass all the time? If Yuno showed more annoyance or even vocalized "I don't give a shit about you, my eyes are on the title of Wizard King," I wouldn't be so irritated with Alecdora. He's bothering me more than the in-universe character he's giving grief!

So glad Alecdora's character was quietly put in a corner because we didn't need him to begin with. We already knew through Klaus that the Golden Dawn loved Captain William. And we knew from just... the whole manga, that nobility looked down on peasants. So Alecdora was redundant on top of being annoying. Which is definitely a losing combo.

So again. Genuinely, fuck that guy.

15) Unpopular opinion about the manga/show?

(deep breath) There should've been more anime filler.

I KNOW I KNOW! CRIMINAL THOUGHT TO HAVE! BUT HEAR ME OUT!

The expansion of some scenes and details would've helped slow the anime when it came to creeping up on manga events. I know that early episodes of the anime dragged things out but they also provided extra scenes for some characters like Magna. His backstory as presented in the manga was as minimal as one could get. But it got a lot more elaboration in the anime.

There are other things too that we could've seen more of in the anime adaptation of Black Clover. I mean, how cool would it have been to get half an episode dedicated to each of the BB groups who set out to find a cure for Asta's broken and cursed arms? Maybe even a full episode for Magna and Luck's adventure? And I mean, Fanzell's backstory from the first light novel got adapted for the anime so...

Look, Tabata is a co-writer of the light novels. Perhaps Onda (the other credited writer) takes the lead but Tabata is likely credited for some kind of input on what the light novels. And the anime creators are aware of the light novels since they adapted the Fanzell story from the first book for the sake of anime viewers' understanding.

In my opinion, it wouldn't be too big of a stretch for the anime writers and directors to have looked to the light novels for series content to adapt into the anime when catching up to the main manga storyline was something they had to worry about.

But the anime is already aired as is. Can't change it now.

So when I say that the anime should've had more filler, what I really mean is that there was a lot of missed opportunities in terms of content that could've been expanded upon or adapted. Anime viewers would get more out of it. The anime would've had less need for the anime filler that we did end up getting. And heck maybe it even would've set a precedent for adapting the light novel content of manga series in addition to the original source material.

For one, our ocs become canon. Yes, I said that last time but it's still a deep, selfish wish of mine.

Another option for change I have is reworking a lot of the fashion choices for the characters...

But for a story change... Yami could've offered the elves a place in the Black Bulls. Which they would've rejected in order to be in Elysia. Cause, hey, Yami recruited a criminal like Gauche. And theft isn't as serious as terrorism but Yami is displaced from his home physically and the elves as displaced from their homes temporally. He could see a bit of himself in them. Again, I'd have the elves turn down the offer but it just means that they have even more reason to be there to help the Heart Kingdom crew. After someone reached out a hand to them, it'd be their turn to reach their hands out.

actually i don't think so? i don't really like the new fanon liet but im still very fond of canon liet and my own personal interpretation of him.

actually my salty take here is that i hate this framing of 'pure' and 'wholesome' like what is the opposite? deranged and filthy? no relationship is totally pure, all of them have their unpleasant parts. these are centuries old blood bathed eldritch beings, none of them are pure and wholesome.

generally i don't like most 2ps or nyos. 9/10 times they're not well written and just come off as an edgier/girlbossier version of the original character. the 2p russia gets me especially like russia is written to be a very big and scary dude and then 2p russia ends up being like 7ft tall and homicidal and it's just too much. i also can't stand romano bar like one very specific romano a discord pal writes. i had to block that fandom bae poll blog because it was annoying me so much seeing romano in a little crown all over my dash.

The Leviathan Club - Fem!Azul Headcanons

A/N: I just... really, really like her. She lives in my head rent free because the genderbent art I see on Twitter is imprinted on my brain. We love powerful business women on this blog. Please have some of my brain rot because I've been imagining her, post graduation owning her own establishment. An elevated Mostro Lounge, if you will. Pretend my banner is her, I don't have an artistic bone in my body so she cannot be edited together. We're doing our best.

Prompt: None really. Just random thoughts about post graduation life. Character(s): Azul Ashengrotto (fem), some Floyd and Jade Leech TW:

✦꒷ Azul owns what Idia Shroud tried to call the Mostro Lounge v2.0. In a sense it is similar to what the Mostro Lounge was in NRC but is located in a well populated part of a bustling City between the Nightlife district and the Classy neighborhoods.

✦꒷ This is to attract young adults from rich families looking for a taste of the nightlife without going to a full on club or rave. 

✦꒷ The Mostro Lounge had been her baby from its opening but during her 4 years, Azul had been sketching out this new club/lounge’s name and layout on the side. Always trying to one up herself. She landed on the name the Leviathan Club.

✦꒷ Azul makes many… “business” arrangements with various vendors during its building. Striving to use local produce and goods. Attempting to pick out the classiest plates and serveware. 

✦꒷ The Tweels are still with her, surprisingly enough (m!Tweels for my self-indulgent ass). They have a bit of a soft spot for their “tako-chan”-- a loving nickname from Floyd; she only lets them call her that behind closed doors. Afterall, she has an image to uphold.      ✦。Tweels are absolute puppies though in this AU. Resting their heads on her lap after a long week of work at the lounge.      ✦。They’re bouncers for the Club. She’s hired some rather experienced staff members to ensure her boys don’t have to work in the kitchen or behind the bar-- though they will hop over the bar or burst in the kitchen to help as needed.

✦꒷Idia helped build the Club’s security system. The cameras, the cards needed to get in and out of spaces off limits to the public, the hidden walls that need passcodes– he created all of them as a favor. The details to the “favor” are kept under wraps however. Only Floyd and Jade know of the inner workings.

✦꒷ She still makes contracts with those in the club that look like they’re struggling through something. (You call it ‘preying on unfortunate souls’, she calls it ‘being an outstanding member of the community’.)

✦꒷ There are opposing whispers about her character. Some say she is a soft spoken woman hiding behind the facade that attempts to make her the modern day mob boss; others say she is rather diabolical should you breach a contract, you’ll be sorry.       ✦。The truth is mingled between the two.       ✦。Azul secretly loves it when others underestimate her though. It makes it much easier to take them off the map when the fools misbehave. 

✦꒷Fem!Azul has a taste for the finer things in life. She’s a bit of a snob when it comes to things like tea and coffee and (especially now that she’s been on land for more than a decade) her shoes.      ✦。Wears black Johnny Chu’s, not as expensive as the one her old friend Vil Schoenhiet wore, but still classy, clean, and comfortable footwear.      ✦。The heel has been driven into the chest of men that found themselves in breach of contract.      ✦。She has an attraction to cool, crisp colors and still dresses herself in black or gray suits and skirts with a touch of purple somewhere in her jewelry or accessories to pay homage to her former dorm. 

✦꒷There are still a few items on the Leviathan Club’s menu that were on the Mostro Lounge’s menu like the infused water that Vil made so famous. There was a proud sense of nostalgia she had when creating the menu.

✦꒷Azul does join the stage on rare occasions if the band or DJ insists. She prefers slow melodic tunes to sing or entertain her guests.

Italian folklore - Janare 🧹🧂🌙

Their name's origin is yet uncertain, it might come from "Dianare" which were the Diana's priestess, devoted to the moon, or it could came from "ianua" the latin word for "door" (I'll explain why down here, keep reading). These figures were located in Benevento, in the region of Campania.

The Janare were terrifying women, with very long hair, afraid of the sunlight, that came out at night. It's said that to catch a janara the hunter had to pull her by the hair and bring her inside their house. At that point the janara would protect the house from the others janare and would heal the family by using the herbs.

Usually the janare were famous for causing troubles and dancing with the devil around the walnut trees, nearby the rivers.

They were able to summon storms, cause infertility and sickness in children. They were blamed also for stealing mares, braid their mane/tail and make them run all night long, causing them to often die from exhaustion in the morning.

Their name is associated to the word "door" because to keep them away from the house people used to place a bag full of salt or a little broom hanging out the door so the janara would spend all the night counting the salt grains/ broom's bristles until the dawn... when they would hide from the sunlight.

I’m no expert in the goings on with WB and DC, we’re just a fan comic so take my opinion with a grain, or a bucket, of salt haha!🧂I believe you’re referring to the post credit scene of Teen Titans GO! To The Movies? Where the Titans say they’ve ‘found a way back’. I think that was just to hype up the next film, Teen Titans GO! vs Teen Titans. It’s been 4 years since that film came out, if they were going to do a season 6 they would’ve announced it around that time to capitalize on that wave of marketing momentum. It seems Tara and Greg are open to making another season, and based on this panel, Khary is more ok with leaving that series alone. 

I lean more with Khary (says the girl making a fan comic about this childhood show haha 🤦🏾‍♀️). Times have changed, animation styles have changed as we saw in TTGO vs TT (the old Titans were so different to fit this new animation style), and the people that made the show have changed due to life moving on. It probably won’t feel the same if they were to make a season 6. If they did do one, I would love if they did something different but links to the old show! So if it’s bad it doesn’t really hurt the original, and if it’s great it moves the story forward and we get to see the Titans like we’ve never seen the before! Which is why I made this comic, hopefully it feels reminiscent and new at the same time!🙃 But that’s just my two cents, if you want a season 6 that’s totally cool as well, sometimes things can come back after all these years!
