Social Plugin Fix: Global mod fixing a bug in the sim pie menu that usually keeps anyone but YAs/adults from autonomously choosing custom social interactions. (Somebody has to have already made this, but I couldn't find it the last time I looked.)

Talk to Baby: Children and talking toddlers can plop down on the floor near a baby and chatter at them. The baby won't be much of a conversationalist but will enjoy the attention if not cranky from low motives. Preverbal toddlers have an unfinished interaction; at the moment they can go over to the baby and look at it briefly, with both gaining a few relationship points for it. The fix above is recommended.

Call All Over: a self-interaction like "Call Over" that gets the attention of everyone on the lot at once. Good for getting wedding guests to the arch on time, etc.

Skill by Trait: Global change to the standard skilling routine that lowers/raises time taken to gain any given skill point if the sim has a trait relevant to the skill or activity. Other bonuses/penalties ought to still be applied as usual.

Asp Fail, Asp Change: Members of the current household might have their primary aspiration randomly reassigned after a breakdown. Inspired by a mod of simler90's.

Consignment Mod: Lets you set up a secondhand market and send your sims' old furniture, etc., to be bought by other families; hopefully more convenient than inventory trades, but be cautious if selling an object that might have something that shouldn't go into inventory, like a sim, in/on it.

It really annoys me that ASP never seems to show any objectivity towards Logan and the Life and Death Brigade.

With Richard and Emily, there is generally a balance showing the positive and negative sides of their world, ie, it's fancy and comfortable and you can fly to Europe at the drop of a hat, but it's also cold and stifling. With Logan, however, it just seems to be framed as being really cool and exciting. Obviously part of it is to show how Rory is dazzled by his world, but there seems to be a worship of glamour and not a lot of objectivity. The same coldness is shown with his family as with Emily and Richard, but when it comes to his friends, the writing loves them. It doesn't matter if any of their pranks or stunts negatively impact anyone else because they're funny. Logan stealing a sewing box causes rebuke from Lorelai but little else; despite that fact that a maid is going to get fired it's written more as a dumb prank than anything else.

It's interesting that when Jess arrives in S6 he is unimpressed and calls out Rory for dating 'the kind of guy we used to make fun of' but aside from that, and Marty's disdain, none of it is explored. Even in AYITL when Rory breaks away from it she still has one last wild ride with the Life and Death Brigade and, rather than any suggestion that it's less fun for those it excludes, it depicts it as something we would all love to be part of.

So I'm thinking right now of an issue that often came up on the Gilmore Girls subreddit, and that I often heard from L/L fans who intensely disliked Jess, which is that Jess was presumptuous to tell Rory in S6 that he "knew her better than anyone", that he only idealized the Rory he knew from high school, that he didn't know or understand her current circumstances at all, that he had no right to encourage her to go back to Yale, and that only Logan really understood the real Rory and knew what was best for her, because (and this is my absolute favorite part of the argument) "Rory likes having nice things and spending money."

I mean, objectively, some of these things are true, because she's spent the last year with Logan and Jess hasn't had much contact with her since high school. And yet...is she happy? Does she want to stay where she is? Is her relationship with Logan doing her much good? Is he doing much of anything to help her claw herself out of that hole? Is he encouraging her to go back to Yale? Is he giving her the push that she needs to fix her life?

And really...can Rory's personality be boiled down to someone who likes to spend money? Because in S6 as in the AYITL era, it seems more of a cushion that keeps her from moving on than anything that's really improving her life, and she only is able to move on when she embraces her roots and returns home to her mom, to Star Hollow, to furthering her goals, even if she doesn't plan to stay home permanently.

ASP writes Logan as part of a toxic cycle, yearning for independence but unable to let go of the advantages he'll have to give up if he leaves. This seems to be a settled reality in AYITL: he can't leave, and she doesn't want to stay in his world, because she'd have to give up too much to live there. Her life is outside of there, and Jess is always an implied part of that future. Logan can't help her claw herself out of that hole because he can't find a way out of it himself.

(Let it be known that S7 does not follow this blueprint and I think Logan can be better than that, but that wasn't in the original game plan).

And Jess? Well, he already did claw himself out of a life he didn't want. So he does know Rory better because he knows why she isn't happy, and he is the right person to inspire her to change her life.

So don't be mad at my boy. He was right!

TW//BLOOD AND GORE

Machines Deserve to Bleed

Context: Gabriel kills V1 after their second encounter and he gets curious about what powers V1

Idk I was bored watching my siblings play at the trampoline park 😒

Content: blood and guts n’ stuff, bodily horror, mutilation, Gabriel being a fucking Sadist(???)

“Mere OBJECT!” With one final toss of his spear, the machine went down. Water splashed as V1 hit the pool below it face first. The familiar crimson color of blood leaked from the cracks and open wounds of V1, tainting the water surrounding its motionless body. It was done. The machine that caused Gabriel so much stress, the THING that nearly killed him, was dead.

Gabriel panted as he glided down towards the body of the robot. The feeling of calm filled the Angel's chest as he gazed upon his latest victory. Yet, a wave of curiosity crept up his back as he stared at the dead machine. What was the thing that kept it going? What did man put inside of it to keep its thirst for blood so intense to the point it seemed like it could never be quenched? This thoughts whispered in his head as he watched V1 Bleed out

With one powerful swipe of his hand, Gabriel snatched V1’s head off of its shoulders and smashes it against the hard solid walls of his palace. Metal, plastic, wiring, glass, and blood, splashed everywhere as he hammered in its face. The sound of metal snapping and breaking underneath his powerful hands sent a shock of joy through his fingertips. The feeling he hasn’t felt in years. To feel their enemy crush and deteriorate from his strength alone. Pure ecstasy.

Finally, the angel was able to weaken the already ruined exterior of the machine's head and dug his armored fingers underneath the broken metal. He tore his way through to finally see what was inside. Blood, wiring, and machinery… as expected. The now disappointed Angel dumps out the remaining pools of blood out of the broken head. As he poured out the remaining pool of blood out of the machine’s head, he saw something spill out with the rest of the blood.

Brain tissue… an eye… chunks of flesh, fall to his feet. Gabriel flips V1’s head to see the interior. A horrifying sight is seen. A head, if you could even call it that, was left mutilated inside. Its face was bloodied from Gabriel smashing it in. Its skull was morphed to be able to fit inside of the machine's exterior. Wires, nuts, and bolts, sticking out of its barely developed skin.

The angel dropped the abomination of man to the floor. Water and blood splattered as the shell of V1’s head cracked open. He takes time to process how man was able to manipulate a body to develop, twist, and turn to be able to fit into such a thin and complex shape. No human skull would be able to be crammed into such a small space as V1 without dying of some type of internal bleeding or brain damage. There had to be something deeper. Something that he was missing…

Gabriel loomed over the decapitated body of V1 and flipped it over with his foot. His eyes glossed over the deep wounds of V1. Gabriel kneeled over V1’s body and ripped open its chest plate. The crack of broken ribs echoed through the cold room as Gabriel tore through the carcass. He tore through as much as he could, studying how man managed to keep whatever was inside of V1 alive if it even was alive, to begin with.

Gabriel, after tearing open what was left of V1’s outer shell, gazed upon the gore he’d created. Broken bones, guts, organs, and machinery lay in the remains of the exterior like a bowl. His hands were painted with blood after he ravished V1’s body. Frankly, he’s done enough. V1 was dead. There was no point in continuing. Doing this wouldn’t kill him more.

Yet, there was this craving that still yearned to be filled. A craving fueled by hatred and anger. Deep down, Gabriel needed more. Gabriel then began to dig his fingers into the wet and bloodied organs of V1. He ripped and tore through the artificial flesh and tissue. He made sure to break and tear every aspect of what was inside of the body. He grunted at each harsh tug, stomped in every joint, and grimaced as he snapped its spine in half.

Then, it was done… All that was left was a broken deeply mutilated chunk of metal and flesh. A good chunk of water was tainted by the bleeding carcass. Gabriel’s armor was painted with the blood of V1. This was surely enough for him. This sick and twisted form of therapy Gabriel endured made him feel at peace with himself.

The thing that caused so much pain and destruction. The thing that massacred nearly all of Hell was a ball of flesh and metal before him. It deserved it. He had no regrets about doing that. It deserved to be like this. It deserved to bleed.

Another reason (besides many others that I've talked about before) Logan's "you're just like the rest of us!" spiel in Season 7 rubs me the wrong way is that I think it doesn't fit with the dynamic ASP set up for Rory and Logan to have. Because Rory ISN'T like the rest of them. And that's always been part of her appeal to Logan. ASP said that the core of Rory and Logan's relationship was about having fun and "avoiding reality," and while it's obvious how that applies to Rory, I think the same is true for Logan as well. And it's not just the partying, it's Rory specifically that's an escape for Logan.

This is related to the general theme that Rory is "caught between worlds" and can't quite fit neatly into either one, and in Season 5, when Rory starts to really want to try on her grandparents' (and Logan's) world for size, it's made clear that she doesn't quite belong. Logan first objects to starting anything with her because she's "special" (how flattering)- and while yes, that has a lot to do with Rory being perceived as a "relationship girl," it's also framed as being different from the culture he's used to (Honor's friends, whom he's "known forever," are a case in point). And when Logan does decide to try a more serious relationship with Rory and brings her home to dinner, it turns out that his family doesn't approve. Rory's not REALLY "one of them," it turns out. She's tainted by association with her mother, and she's too "middle class," essentially, because she wants to work for a living. Logan is upset by this, but being with Rory afterwards becomes a Little Rebellion.

In "Vinyard Valentine," we find out that Logan has been playing house with Rory while he was supposed to have been at an important business meeting his father had arranged for him. We also find out that the trip across Asia Logan and Rory have been planning cannot actually happen at all, because his father is planning to ship Logan off to London immediately after graduation. And Logan knew this the entire time. He was simply choosing to pretend that he could make his own plans.

This theme is continued into the Revival, when we find out that Logan is engaged to a woman his family approves of, but is avoiding thinking about it by having an affair with Rory. Both of them are using each other to escape reality, but reality comes anyway. Logan can pretend he can be with Rory, can wistfully think about "what-ifs" and "might-have-beens," but in the end, he knows that he's not going to fight to make it real. He had his Little Rebellion, but he's not going to fight against his family's plans. I think it's crucial to emphasize that he could if he really wants to, but in the end, while he may love the idea of being with Rory, he doesn't love her enough to be willing to leave it all behind. And if Rory was "just like the rest of them," he wouldn't have to.

Lilith Opposite Eris - Everything is fine. STOP SAYING EVERYTHING ISN'T FINE!

So I’ve been thinking a lot about Lilith - the point in the Moon's orbit that’s furthest from the Earth. Long story short for those who don’t know - Lilith is calculated in two ways which astrologers generally call Mean, and True. Despite these names there’s no true way to calculate it - both are valid. I tend to use Mean for Personal Reasons.

No, I can’t just leave it at that. I use Mean because I did some digging on the chart of the first person to use Lilith and looked at correlations between where he calculated it was, and where it actually was and the mean calculation was really intensely apt, and it just generally seems to work better for me. Your mileage may vary but sometimes in astrology you have to make a call on something or become obsessed with how vast and confusing the universe is.

Mean or True, Lilith is in Libra. One way to think about Lilith in Libra that I quite like is to think about obsessive peacekeeping. Being on your last nerve and still trying to be friendly when maybe you shouldn’t be. It’s in the nature of Lilith that emotions related to it are imbalanced and aggressive. It can lead to absolutely obsessive behaviour, or an outright rejection of that energy at all. Sometimes both. Someone who obsessively tries to keep the peace and keep things nice can flip and suddenly not be able to handle this at all.

Right now, Eris is pretty much exactly opposite Lilith, and this makes sense to me. The opposition reached 3 degrees on 8 January and will remain so until 5 March. Eris is a Dwarf planet that's almost exactly the size of Pluto. The difference is, Pluto has a big moon to go with it. So, Eris is, to my mind, the best candidate for something with Astrological meaning that's smaller than Pluto. This includes Chiron. It's just a shame we're still learning about it.

One important key phrase I use with it is that Eris is the immovable object. What happens when someone with immovable views negotiates with people who are obsessively keeping the peace? What happens when someone is obsessed with keeping the peace to the extent that they are immovably commited to believing that things are fine?

Eris is pretty damn near conjunct my sun and I noticed this aspect in my personal life first. But I think it maps well to world affairs. We have Democrats dancing in their meetings, we have Keir Starmer negotiating with Trump to keep Britain out of a trade war as though Trump is doing normal politics. Innuendo Studios video on at what point America has crossed the Rubicon into tyranny captures some of the mood I'm seeing. Things look grim but there's a strong motivation to see things as somewhat normal, or to try to make peace with the new world - for instance here in the UK we have politicians like the Health Minister talking about the dangers of anti-whiteness and society not doing enough to cater to white men. Trying to meet MAGA halfway.

The last Conjunction of Lilith and Eris was in Aries in August to September 2020, when Trump was formulating the ideas that would lead to him taking the pretty unprecedented act of trying to overturn an election result in the way he did. He announced his reelection in November 2022 during the square. The next square is April to June 2027 with Lilith in Capricorn so note your diaries.

On a personal level, this is a tough aspect. I'm looking at Venus because it rules Libra. My Venus is in Taurus so I'm resting and trying to find calm in comfort and pleasure. The Aspect will continue within 3 degrees till 5 March. All that time, Venus is in Aries. Ultimately this is making me think that action is a great form of self care for now. Activism can be a necessary part of self care. It allows you to focus on trying to make changes in a sea of news, it connects you with friends, it builds support networks, also, doing stuff can frankly feel good. I mean, take care of yourself and others but if you're feeling this aspect, consider it

Ranks of Casters within the Esurian Islands

Throughout Esura's history there have been many ways that magic users have been ranked and identified, however they mainly followed a basic progression outlined below. Each rank aside from Neophyte and Pupil comes with a Cloak and Brooch denoting said rank. While everyone generally aligns on titles and levels the coloring and look of the Cloak and Brooch very from culture to culture. For example, the Avian's Brooch is that of a wing while the Vulpine's is a tree, symbolic of the Tree of Magic.

Neophyte

A Neophyte is a common term used for those who have shown magical skill or have shown intention to study casting. It is not a full ranking but a catch all used to describe young potential students.  

Student

Student is technically the first ranking that one can receive and occurs when someone has been accepted to study casting and magic. The ranking of student is often denoted by a white article of clothing, commonly a scarf but not always, called a Leaf. A Leaf can also be a patch, shirt, type of hat, or even belt. Students only have a very basic understanding of Magic and only would be able to use the most basic Releases if they even can cast. Most of a Students time is devoted to learning how to draw a basic Release and learning about Canto and Cantoing.

Students who are able to accomplish certain feats through Releases achieve the rank of Apprentice. Apprentices are paired with a Magus who helps teach them more specifics on casting. The way that Apprentices are selected varies, it can be at the choice of the Magus or assigned by the institution where the Student is learning but what happens is the same. Through a ceremony a new Apprentice will destroy their Leaf through a Release of their choice to show they have been able to achieve confidence in at least one. Once destroyed their new Magus teacher will present them with their first Cloak and Brooch and in turn, the first official magic user title. Apprentices are able to use Releases outside of a learning environment but only under the supervision of their Magus. If an Apprentice somehow fails to perform a release to destroy their Leaf then they are remitted back to Student and given a timeline to perform again. Different schools have different timelines or consequences for failing.  Apprentice's range of skill is incredibly varied. Very new Apprentices might only be able to successfully perform one or two releases consistently but an Apprentice who has been under the tutelage of a Magus for a number of years can be well versed in various Elemental Releases and even some Objective. A middle of the range Apprentice should be able to successfully and consistently cast at least one Release in each of the four Elemental types. Though some never get to this level and fall out of practice. Apprenticeship is where most individuals drop out and move on realizing the difficulty.

Magus

Once an Apprentice has been able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge and mastery over Releases, gain the approval of their Magus and of a Mage, they can be promoted to Magus. A Magus is another term for journeyman mage and while they are considered fully competent in casting they are still in training. The final test that a Magus must pass before they can become a full Mage is by training an Apprentice to the level of Magus. This is because teaching is seen as a very important skill and a Mage who is unable to teach is seen as unworthy. Traditionally Apprentices are given a Magus cloak and brooch by their own Magus once they have achieved the level. Most newly appointed Magus's will choose an Apprentice within a few weeks of their appointment and many schools have a period of time where new Magus's can observe classes of Pupils to see who they would want to pick as their own Apprentice. It is not required for a Magus to select an Apprentice but if they do not it is much harder to obtain the rank of Mage. A Magus should be able to teach all aspects of casting and have at least a strong understanding of Elemental Types and a teachable understanding of Objective and its Types. A Magus should be adept at casting and be able to cast on the fly.

Mage

If a Magus has demonstrated a mastery of releases and trained an Apprentice to the level of Magus to an acceptable level they are granted to level of Mage. The title is bestowed generally by an important individual at the school the new Mage had began their study at such as the Headmage. It has also been known to occur with non-magical individuals such as those in high governmental positions. Mage's are able to be appointed to magical leadership roles in governments, the military, professors and teachers at schools and universities. In later years they often hold their own commission from the relevant government dictating their skill and abilities. Mage's can still select Apprentices to teach and it's not uncommon to see a Mage teaching several Apprentices at once. A Mage should be able to constantly and reliably be able to perform most releases in the Elemental tree and objective tree in addition they must show being adept at Combining releases. Often the way to denote a Mage from the levels below is their ability to combine 2 or 3 releases at once. To many, Mage is the top level achievable however if a Mage is able to set themselves apart from the rest and truly shine they may achieve higher.

Headmage

A Headmage is the top level Professor at one of the five schools of Casting in the Esurian Islands. It’s usually filled by individuals who have spent a number of years at that specific school and then selected by their peers to be the head. The process is somewhat derived from the Beast’s Body but the connection is lost on any who still draw breath. Headmage’s skill varies but they are by definition the most talented Mage’s at their representative school. They are often called upon as special advisors to local leaders and hold a distinct level of respect among all casters. Headmage’s are able to devote much of their time to study and practice and it’s usually here that one begins study of the Spiritual Branch of Magic. But as accomplished as Headmage’s are there is one level that is yet higher.

Master

A Master is an individual who has differentiated themselves from all others for their skill, knowledge, pure ability, speed, and acts among others. By the time someone attains the level of Master they have shown pure mastery of Canto and Release in all its forms. Masters are able to perform most any Release and have the strongest resilience against the negative effects. Whereas an average Mage would be able to cast around 2 or 3 Releases a day, a Master should at a minimum be able to perform twice that much. They often have a deeper understanding of combining and even can combine different pillars such as Objective with Spiritual. The Master rank is limited to only Nine individuals and can only be changed if one of the individuals dies. Many times a Master passes their title on to someone new before they pass. However sometimes certain Mages, through their acts alone will start to be denoted as a Master through stories and word of mouth which can end in spectacular duels with the last one standing obtaining the coveted title. That title brings many things with it and Masters are looked upon as a special breed, individuals who have obtained greater than what is possible.

I rewatched Annie (1982) for the first time in a while and had some thoughts. I'll start with the big one: Warbucks's bodyguards are weird.

The Asp is just an ambiguous East Asian guy who knows karate. He has one or two scenes where he beats someone up, and he teaches karate to Annie, and that's just about all the scenes where he's more than an extra with an epithet.

But Punjab? God, where to start.

Okay, well I think he's supposed to be Indian. He's dark-skinned, and wears a military uniform that looks British-Raj-ey, and also a turban, and he's named after a region in India. He also attributes one of his exotic Asian proverbs to the Buddha, so I don't know what religion Carol Sobieski thought he was supposed to be. (Oh, she's the film's screenwriter.)

More importantly, he has magic powers. He can put people and animals to sleep, and levitates objects for Annie's amusement a few times.

He's a vaguely South Asian dude with mystic Oriental powers. Weird old trope. And Punjab's presence changes how I see the Asp. He's not just a background character; he's homoousian with Punjab, of the same substance (Orientalism), just less of it.

Magic Asian stereotypes weren't an uncommon trope when the original comics were being published, but the movie came out in 1982. Why does Punjab still have magic powers?

One of the scenes where the Asp does something is the one where a Bolshevik assassin throws a bmb through Oliver Warbucks's window because he's proof that American capitalism works. A, I think the Bolsheviks had more important problems in the 30's. B, they were actually normalizing relations with the USA in 1933, but whatever. C, this is an example of how Annie (1982) is more political than I expected.

Yeah, all narratives are political, but most musicals don't have the deuteragonist arguing with the President over economic policy. It's brief, but it's there, and I didn't expect jabs from various characters aimed at FDR being a Democrat or Warbucks being a Republican.

Speaking of the President...I guess this isn't really about Annie, but when I heard someone mention FDR I assumed it was set some time around 1940. But no, it's 1933. FDR was president a long time.

I had half-remembered Oliver Warbucks initially being a stodgy old miser. In the actual movie, he's very money-focused at first, but he's pretty quirky/eccentric from minute one.

While I'm talking about Warbucks: One scene, he mentions that he grew up penniless, and worked his way up from there to be a billionaire. A few scenes later, he claims that he doesn't know what a dime is. Maybe I'm overthinking this, but at least one of those was an act. Either he's lying about his background (probably not what Carol Sobieski or Thomas Meehan or Harold Gray had in mind) or he's deliberately pretending to be more out of touch than he is. For some reason.

Gene and Brinker, good sir?

AHHH okay okay

what made you ship it?

reading the book lol. ok so i feel like there's a lot of context i need to explain for this beyond just the book's subtext bc there's a bit of personal lore here. before teaching us the book, my middle school english teacher introduced each of the central four characters with this powerpoint with a slide on each one, and the way she described them like archetypically and physically made it sound almost like (to MY middle school brain) a dating sim, in which gene was the main character. like the blurb already sounds very romance novelesque so jdkshfkh. ig it wasn't too big a leap. so we already have a baseline there.

i also think that in the book brinker and gene are a secondary and competing rivarly/friendship to gene and finny's rivarly/friendship, and i think that's where the tension between brinker and gene and brinker and finny comes from. in fact this is kind of just text, like brinker and finny i think are pretty explicitly competing for gene's attention. i'm pretty sure there are some like old asp posts from the earlier 2010s era of the fandom where people are like "brinker and gene/finny have such ex energy", but iirc it was more often finny? like i'm definitely not the only person to see this Thing brinker has going on with gene, but at the time i'm p sure brinkerfinny was the more widespread take. anyway. brinker pursues gene so relentlessly both as an antagonist and as a guy who just Needs to be doing things with him, Needs to be occupying his time and attention. and yet they maintain this weird friendship/understanding throughout. to me this was most pronounced with the whole enlistment thing, and that dynamic where gene had to choose between finny and brinker for the enlistment/not enlistment??? it just gave very love triangle energy. the intensity with which brinker is fixated on gene is like. it gives repressed queer guy with problems. it's beyond wanting to antagonize him, he just is constantly coming up with excuses to be around him and to orient his focus around the pursuit of this one guy. his need to be morally superior to the object of his pursuit feels very queercoded to me. it's a very funny contrast to other parts of the book where he and gene are seemingly chill and normal friends? boy has issues

2. what are your favorite things about the ship?

HOOOOOO okay i have a long answer for this because it has to do with how i accidentally made myself insane about them. so i have this really long winded headcanon-turned-sequel fic in my Brain and Mind about gene and brinker moving in together after the war for kind of money reasons and kind of personal reasons. gene has been depression camping in finny's family's attic for a long undefined amount of time, and brinker is like hey you need to get the fuck out of there come live with me idiot. cue several years later and this is where the fic starts. i usually have it start at the time that gene would've gone back to visit devon, because i like the idea of that whole thing happening during a hs reunion in devon town, in which he and brinker joint travel and stay with his family which is its own whole awkwardness but anyway. <- culmination of everything i've ever thought about them since eighth grade

most of my genebrinker thoughts center around this period of adulthood where they're not young anymore but they're not old either, and they have all this unresolved tension and shared trauma and resentment that spills over into their "present" relationship. i think this is where genebrinker would theoretically "actually" start, in adulthood. i think there could've been ambiguous things earlier, especially during their joint enlistment period if they happened to be together, but nothing very deliberate or openly acknowledged until much later. it's this delicious mix of both having an established very domestic and familiar dynamic, knowing this person's routines and habits inside out, and yet having this pent up unspoken something. and for gene and brinker, it's not just this quiet tenderness, although i think that's bound to happen sometimes when you're essentially apartment husbands. i think they'd blow up at each other and let things slip during heated moments that they don't mean to, mostly on brinker's side, bc i think brinker's been nursing some kind of crush since hs, whereas if gene returned brinker's feelings, i think they'd slowly build over time. their familiarity with each other is also very interesting because, while they have this odd like, daddy issues(?) solidarity in the book that again feels very queer, in adulthood, it's also this thing of like, they kind of shared the murder of one of their closest friends. my fav think about genebrinker is that they know the worst of each other, that they actively participated in some of the worst parts of each other's lives, but it's that coupled with like, arguing over dinner and visiting the parents and trying to hold down stable jobs. or i guess for something more connected to the actual book, that coupled with like, accompanying your friend to an awkward meeting with his dad

this is not even all the things i think about their dynamic or all the like underlying sources of tension in their adult relationship in my head, i also think they'd be in very different places in terms of sexuality, and that would come to a head at some point, but i'll stop here because this is a question about my favorite THING, not explain every thought you've ever had about them

3. is there an unpopular opinion you have about your ship?

i think the entire ship is an unpopular opinion lmfao. like 90% of this is my headcanons. ummm i have brinker being the more responsible of the two when i write them as adults, if still the more temperamental one, so that might be controversial? i think at this stage of their lives, he's more practical and better at home ec stuff, and gene cannot fucking take care of himself for the life of him. gene is running himself into the ground while brinker is like get your fucking socks off my floor

I do love a gadgeteer hero, someone who always has the right equipment for the job on hand, even when it doesn’t always make sense.

An interesting subtype of the gadgeteer hero, however, is the “arsenal” hero. Typically a “battle mage” of some kind, their whole gimmick is that they have a weapon and/or armor set for every situation, often conjuring them to their hands to replace whatever armament they previously held or wore.

And with the witchwarper, a spellcaster that literally calls upon objects and energies from alternate realities, it only makes sense that there would be some among them that utilize their talents in such a way!

I doubt that this specialization would manifest by accident, so I imagine that those that wield this power trained themselves to focus on weapons and armaments when they tap into the possibilities of other worlds and realities. Perhaps they are soldiers or mercenaries, or they desperately wished for a weapon to defend themselves when they were in danger, and their power awakened and answered.

Either way, their gifts have given them a way to answer any question that their foes and the hazards around them may ask.

With an expenditure of magical energy, these mages can conjure a suit of light armor (with upgrades if resolve is also spent), a basic melee weapon, or a sidearm. Though these armaments may resemble familiar models, they are extradimensional in nature and as such the skill of the mage and the amount of energy they expended determines their damage output and defensive capabilities, allowing them to tailor the armor with the upgrades they need, or the weapons with the damage type and special properties they need.

The greater the magical energy they expend, the more potent their creations become. Armor gains elemental resistances, additional upgrade slots, greater durability. Meanwhile, weapons gain critical hit effects, additional properties, and increases to their damage output.

With this specialization, this version of the witchwarper is less a battlefield control specialist and more a secondary combatant able to tailor their gear to the situation at hand, especially if you’re using the enhanced version of the class that gets a lot of extra uses of infinite worlds. I recommend combat feats to flesh out their ability to stand alongside more combat-focused classes, as well as spells that can hamper and damage foes to make hammering them hard with your conjured weapons as well as your more real mainstays easier. From there, make a list of useful armor upgrades so you can quickly pick them out when going on the defensive.

I said before that these weapons and armor may resemble familiar models  despite using a level-generated stat line, but they don’t have to if you do not wish. You might wield armor that resembles medieval designs, or weapons that function but are very different in terms of design aesthetic, such as an electrical pistol that is accompanied by deafening peals of thunder when fired, or a staff that bleeds flame along it’s length. Feel free to be creative with it!

Hoping to starve them out of advanced resources, the Jolin Corporation blockaded the planet in hopes of quelling the copaxi revolts at their facilities. The recent string of killings that have occurred seem to have no connection at first, but as one looks into the details, one begins to realize that the murder weapons are all strange and unique devices, leading the investigators to conclude that the wielder must be a tinkering weaponsmith, have raided a warehouse of experimental designs, or perhaps strangest of all, is making them up as they go.

One of my favorite undervalued Gilmore Girls episodes is the season 1 episode Emily In Wonderland, where Rory takes Emily around Stars Hollow and Emily is actually having a great time until Rory takes her to the shack where she lived when she was a child and we can see what a disheveled mess it was, but Rory is oblivious and talks about it like this existence was a fairy tale, because that's the way Lorelai taught her to see it. We can see how Lorelai shielded Rory from how dire their circumstances actually were, and yet we can see the reality of it and how hurt Emily is that Lorelai chose to live like that.

The modern fandom does not get this. Emily is always a villain, everything she does is irredeemable, and Lorelai's actions are always right because she's the main character and Gilmore Girls is a feminist fairy tale and therefore Lorelai can never be wrong.

But objectively? It's a bad idea to take your child out of a safe and secure home and run away to live in a shack and work as a maid. The fact that Rory didn't understand that it was a struggle doesn't mean it was a great idea. Lorelai grew up with what she thought were too many rules, so she over-corrected and never established boundaries, and thus as an adult Rory doesn't have much of an ability to function as a grown-up and because of the money she has access to, doesn't need to work and often chooses not to. And of course, the same thing happens: she ends up pregnant by an unavailable man, likely destined to repeat her mother's life patterns.

The thing about all of that is that I think the whole book idea was supposed to echo back to Emily In Wonderland. Lorelai did not want Rory to write about that situation in detail, did not want to outline how risky and unwise Lorelai's teen mom behavior actually was. It's okay if Rory writes about how she experienced it...because as far as Rory is concerned, even at 32, it's still a fairy tale. But Lorelai doesn't want her to write about what it was actually like. Because similar to Jess's childhood with Liz, or even some other aspects of Luke's past such as caring for a dying parent alone, is beyond the capabilities of this show to accurately depict. It wasn't a fairy tale, it was a risky gamble that worked out fabulously for Lorelai in the end but probably wasn't much fun for quite a while. Rory is still immune to much of the reality of it, and doesn't understand this.

It does make me feel more compassion for Lorelai, even if the AYITL narrative is screaming that Lorelai needs to get over it and let Rory dissect her secrets for public consumption because Rory would rather do that instead of get a job or work towards one. There's a stage you get to as an adult when you realize your childhood was more fucked up than you realized at the time, and it shouldn't take writing a book to get there. ASP is reluctant to fill in the gaps on that line of logic, so we're just supposed to interpret Lorelai telling Rory no as unjust, even though Lorelai said she was okay with Rory just writing her interpretation of events.
