UltiHash’s Sustainable Data Infrastructure Tackles AI Storage Challenges
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/ultihashs-sustainable-data-infrastructure-tackles-ai-storage-challenges/
UltiHash’s Sustainable Data Infrastructure Tackles AI Storage Challenges
UltiHash, a provider of high-performance and eco-friendly data storage solutions, has launched its object storage platform to address critical issues in AI data storage. This development aims to resolve mounting challenges in the AI industry related to infrastructure costs and environmental sustainability. The new platform enhances performance for data-heavy applications, including generative AI and advanced analytics, offering scalable and sustainable solutions for data management.
As the AI industry grows, projected to reach $407 billion by 2027 according to Forbes, the demand for data storage has surged. AI model training, which relies on massive datasets, often strains current storage infrastructure due to inefficiency, leading to high costs and a significant environmental footprint. UltiHash’s new platform is designed to solve these issues, providing high-performance storage while reducing both operational expenses and environmental impact.
Key Features of UltiHash’s Platform
UltiHash’s platform introduces several key innovations, including:
Advanced Deduplication: Reducing data volumes by up to 60% by eliminating redundant data at the byte level, minimizing storage needs and bandwidth usage.
Scalability: Built for organizations with rapidly growing data needs, the platform scales easily to petabytes and beyond, supporting continuous data expansion.
Enhanced Performance: With 250% faster read speeds compared to AWS S3, the platform improves data throughput for both read and write operations, essential for high-performance applications.
Interoperability: Fully compatible with S3 APIs and designed for seamless integration with both cloud and on-premises infrastructures, including Kubernetes-native environments.
Data Resiliency: Built-in erasure coding ensures data is protected even during hardware failures, safeguarding against system disruptions.
These features position UltiHash as a critical player in the AI data storage landscape, especially for organizations adopting data lakehouse architectures. By combining the scalability of data lakes with the query efficiency of data warehouses, the platform supports diverse data formats while optimizing performance and resource usage.
Building on Recent Success: $2.5M Pre-Seed Funding
UltiHash’s latest announcement follows its successful $2.5 million pre-seed funding round in December 2023, led by Inventure, alongside investors like PreSeedVentures, Tiny VC, and Sequoia Capital-affiliated angel investors. The funding supports UltiHash’s efforts to enhance its platform and accelerate market entry.
The company’s entry into the market comes as data growth reaches unprecedented levels. IDC projects that global digital data will hit 175 zettabytes by 2025, each zettabyte contributing the carbon footprint of approximately two million people annually. This rapid increase in data generation presents both operational and environmental challenges, with existing storage solutions often requiring significant cost outlays and energy consumption. UltiHash’s platform aims to break this cycle by reducing the overall storage demand while maintaining high performance.
A Future of Sustainable, High-Performance Storage
By reducing the data stored through advanced deduplication, UltiHash enables companies to scale their data operations sustainably. This technology addresses the core issue of balancing scalability with affordability, which has traditionally constrained data-driven industries, including AI, telecom, manufacturing, and automotive.
“The AI revolution is generating data at an unprecedented rate, and traditional storage solutions are struggling to keep pace,” says Tom Lüdersdorf, Co-Founder and CEO of UltiHash. “The future of storage will make it possible to avoid ballooning data costs without compromising on speed.”
As data continues to fuel innovation in AI and other industries, UltiHash‘s platform is poised to play a crucial role in enabling sustainable data growth. Its focus on reducing both the environmental toll and the financial burden of large-scale data storage could reshape how organizations approach data infrastructure.

BUBBLE, BUBBLE, MOON'S IN TROUBLE
Moondrop/Reader
Rating: SFW
Wordcount: 5k
A commission for @semidemi-minigod !! In which you give Moon a bath. But from Moon's POV.
It was difficult to say when it all started.
When he’d allowed himself to become so complacent. So vulnerable.
It wasn’t an entirely pleasant feeling. But you made it easier. Somehow.
Even now, when all he wanted was to slink away into the dark, far away from your pleading eyes and pursed lips.
“Come on, Moon. Please? You can look at it all if you want to. I won’t stop you. It’s really good stuff. Like, expensive stuff.”
You moved around the cleaning cart, picking up and brandishing several different items in his direction, with all the nervous excitement of a salesman trying to land a deal.
His eyes moved over each object laid out, atop the cart’s surface. Towels, fluffy and white. Bottles of cleaning solutions. Metal polish. Different kinds of scrub brushes. A few toothbrushes…?
He didn’t recognize any of the brands, which meant that they came from outside the Pizzaplex.
“…You bought these?” Cautiously, he picked up one of the little canisters and held it between his thumb and forefinger, turning the balm canister round-and-round like it was an oversized coin.
Polish cream. The fancy aluminum tin flashed under the dim lights, like the spark of a distant star.
“Yeah, I got them all from a hardware place that was nearby.” You smiled, hands roving over the assortment to grasp one of the smaller hand towels. His head tilted a bit when you held it out to him, a lopsided smile gracing your flushed cheeks.
“Feel these! I swear, I have never felt towels as soft as these.”
Curiosity burning, Moon placed the polish back down and reached for the towel. He fingered the soft, fluffy fabric in a bit of awe. It was much nicer than the old, tattered rags they had stashed away in the Daycare. Cleaner, too.
“They’re Egyptian cotton.” Your grin grew wider. “I got you a couple of sets, so you can keep some in storage for when they each get worn out.”
“…Keep?”
“Well…yeah! I mean, they’re yours now.” You gestured at the whole of the collection. “All of this is. I mean, I can keep it if you don’t have any room. But this is all for you. You and Sun, I mean. Obviously.”
He looked back and forth between you and the cleaning cart, utterly bewildered.
And, more than that, suspicious.
“Why?”
He watched your expression twist into bemusement, before you sighed dramatically and rolled your eyes.
“Because I can.”
“What if we…don’t want it?” He couldn’t stop the hint of amusement that crept into his voice. Even if there was a little bit of truth to it. It felt…wrong to accept this.
You just pursed your lips, brows raising so high they nearly touched your hairline.
“Well, that’s too bad. Cause I already bought it, and the store won’t let me return it. Which means either you take it, or I’ll just throw it all away.”
He grunted, looking back over the collection.
“Liar-liar, pants on fire.”
“Nope!” You popped the “p,” giving him a little half-shrug. “I’ve got the receipt, and it says no refunds allowed. You wanna see it? I’ll show it to you.”
Moon grunted again, tapping his fingers rhythmically against his chin and cheek.
To take it…or not…
It would be a shame to let it all go to waste.
But! But. He had one more question to ask you.
“Why me? Why not Sun?”
He can’t help but spit the name with a bit of venom. Out of the two of them, wouldn’t Sun be the easier target? Easier to work with. Easier to talk to. A better fit.
Better…in every way.
The look you give him is hard to place. It’s not hurt, not pity…a little frustrated.
A little sad.
“Do you not…trust me?”
There it is again: that feeling of wanting to hide away. A little tickle of guilt burning through his wires and sliding between his gears. He didn’t like it when you looked at him like that.
“No.”
“No, you don’t trust me? Or no, you don’t not trust me?”
“…No.”
You sighed, pulling off the bear-eared cap on your head to run a hand through your already messy hair.
“Alright. Alright…I won’t force you to do it. I just…” You looked down at the cart, eyes misty and lip quivering a bit. Like you were trying not to cry. “I wanted to spend time with you.”
And like that, he feels something in him melt.
“Fine.” He folded his arms over his chest, as if they’d serve as any sort of defense. He hates the way his whole-body tickles with heat when the sadness on your face melts away into relief.
Because it’s unfamiliar. Different.
He knows for a fact that what he’s feeling is something that he’s not supposed to be able to feel.
And yet, you make him feel it.
And that frightens him.
“Make it fast.”
Guilt is there again, gnawing at his insides when you reach up to quickly wipe the rim of your eyes clear, a breathy laugh bubbling up from somewhere inside you. Just like that, you’re so happy.
“Alright! Okay. Okay. Um, I’ll start with the—I mean, what do you want me to start with? I’ve got all this stuff, and I didn’t even think about it. God, where do I start?”
Moon watches you flit around the cart, hands moving over each object in a frenzy. You finally look up after a moment, going still.
“Sorry. Just. Give me a second, I swear I know what I’m doing.” Your eyes move to the floor, like you’re searching for something. “Do you want to sit down?”
Silently, Moon reached behind him, grasping one of the small child-sized chairs, and pulled it out to sit on without breaking eye contact.
“Okay.” You chuckled, a rag in one hand, a bottle of cleaning solution in the other. He could feel the hesitancy in your movements as you approached, like you were afraid he’d bolt at any second. “I promise I’ll be gentle.”
For a moment, you hesitated, as if trying to decide where and how to get started. Moon simply sat still, watching your hands and eyes shift from his face to his arms, to his chest, then back up.
“Hang on, I can’t do this kneeling—my back hurts too much for that.”
You grabbed an undersized chair and pulled it up across from him, gently taking one of his arms and spraying a light amount of the solution across it. Moon couldn’t detect any chemicals, but it did smell slightly…fresh?
“This is just water and soap,” you explained, gently running the rag across his forearm, rubbing it between his fingers and over his palm. “To get rid of the surface stains. After that, I’ll use the stronger stuff.”
For a moment, there was a silence that stretched between the two of you. He wasn’t sure if it was comfortable or not but was more than satisfied to simply watch your tiny hands work their way up and down his arm.
You swapped to the other arm, wiping it down gently from hand-to-shoulder, then paused.
“Do you want me to do your chest or back first?”
Your voice was soft, gentle and coaxing.
Moon looked down at his arms, flexing his fingers as he thought for a moment.
“…Back.”
“Alright.”
Carefully, you placed a hand on his shoulder for balance, running the washcloth over his broad back. Moon twitched, an odd tingle rushing through his wires at the sensation of your palm rubbing little circles around the spot where the hook to his line protruded. He tried to ignore it, but you stopped again, having noticed.
“Sorry, is that uncomfortable?”
“No.” He scrambled for an excuse. “…It tickles.”
“Oh.” From the corner of his eye, he could see a tiny smile cross over your face. “I didn’t know you were ticklish.”
“We’re not,” he replied, maybe a little too fast. “Just…sensitive.”
“Sure.” The tone in your voice betrayed that maybe you didn’t entirely believe him, but you didn’t push the issue. He was thankful for that.
The thought of your little hands coasting along his metal body, trying to find vulnerable spots to attack and manipulate—it made his head spin. That was the last thing he needed right now.
Things were quiet again, as you slid the rag over the thin pieces of metal that made up his hinged neck. Anxiety raced through his system as your hand moved dangerously close to the back of his face-plate—where the switch sat.
One wrong move (or maybe, one purposeful move) and he’d be forced into Rest Mode.
“Careful—” Before he could stop himself, his hand flew up, snatching your thin wrist. “Not there.”
“Oh! Sorry, sorry, sorry…” You quickly jerked back, panic flashing in your eyes. “D-Did I hurt you?”
He searched your face for any sign of wrongdoing. Something to latch onto.
He found nothing.
“…No.” Moon finally said after a moment, letting your wrist go. He felt a little bad as he watched you rub it, knowing that he’d probably held on a little too hard. “Just…not there.”
“Okay, I’m sorry.” You scooted around the edge of the chair, rag hovering just below the edge of his neck ruffles. “I’ll start on your chest now, okay?”
He didn’t say anything but leaned his head back to give you more room. That, and to keep from having to watch you run the cloth over the expanse of his chassis. Just the feeling of it was enough to have him balling his hands tight into fists at his sides.
There was so much intimacy in the action, as simple an action it was. Your face was so close, eyes squinted as you scrubbed at the stains splattered across his metal body. Sticky hands, paint, glue, dirt, grime—there was no telling what made up the mass of it all. But the feeling of it being wiped away was a very pleasant one.
He felt lighter, almost. Like the weight of the stains were being peeled off him.
You were extremely gentle when your hands moved down to his waist, one holding him slightly in place, the other moving the cloth down his sides and across his stomach.
Moon squirmed again. If he’d had a stomach, it would have been fluttering. Full of butterflies.
“Sorry, I’m almost done.” You breathed softly, looking up at him from beneath your lashes.
“It’s fine.” He lied.
A few more moments later, you finally leaned back, and Moon felt like he could breathe again. Not that he’d ever needed to in the first place. But whatever pressure had been hanging over his head was finally lifted away, if only momentarily.
You pulled out another bottle, gently drenching a small scrub brush across its surface with the oddly colored liquid. It smelled very strongly of disinfectant, and he flinched a little.
“This is the strong stuff.” You explained, offering him an apologetic smile. “It’ll get rid of the tougher stains—you don’t have a lot of them, so this part should be quick. I’ll try not to go too hard with it.”
“Do what you need to. We won’t run.”
This part of the cleaning process wasn’t quite as pleasant as the rag and soap. But you had been true to your word—your touch was gentle. Maybe too gentle.
“Harder.” He urged, after a while of watching you scrub at his arms. “We don’t have all night.”
You blew a few stray hairs out of your face. “I don’t know how you got this dirty. When was your last bath?”
He…couldn’t remember. So, he didn’t say anything at all.
You paused to glance up at him, but after it was apparent that you weren’t going to get a response, you turned back to scrubbing.
The bristles of the brush felt…strange, against his metal skin. Not painful. Just uncomfortable. It made him want to push your hand away, but he stopped short of doing so. You were just trying to help, and it wouldn’t do either of you good for him to make this difficult.
So, like a child sitting through a well-needed (but unwanted) haircut, he forced himself to simply sit there, squirming every so often.
“I really appreciate you letting me do this for you.” You finally said, your voice cutting through the silence. “I wish I could do something about the stains on your pants, but you probably wouldn’t want me to, uh…”
Your hands moved through the air, making vague gestures, before you just gave up and offered him a little half-shrug. “Mess with those.”
Moon had to think about it for a moment. “I wouldn’t mind.”
Once more, you paused, blinking rapidly. “What? Oh, uh—I was just joking!”
A spark of mischief fluttered in his chest. Your cheeks were flushing, the rosy color reaching all the way up to the tips of your ears. You couldn’t look at him suddenly, and his internals picked up a rapid jump in heart rate.
“Nervous?” A giggle bubbled up from somewhere deep inside him, and he clicked his invisible tongue, wagging a finger in your face. “Naughty thing.”
The color on your face deepened to a shade that rivaled the ruby glow of his eyes.
“No! I mean—that’s not what I meant. Just—I just—” Your lips set in a thin line, breath coming quick and heavy.
“Want me to take them off?”
“What?”
He giggled again, quite enjoying the way your voice cracked.
“My…” His hands hovered for a moment, just above the hem of his pants. Then, he flipped them upwards, as if offering you his wrists. “Ribbons.”
Your face was so red that he wondered if you could even breathe properly. Your heart was practically leaping out of your chest. Seeing you all flustered made that bouncy, electric feeling inside him tingle and spark.
For a moment, you just glared at him, shaking the scrub brush like you were considering smacking him with it. Then, you sucked in a breath, pinched the bridge of your nose, and slowly let it out again, lowering your would-be weapon.
“I hate you.”
He snickered again, reaching out a single finger to gently tap the tip of your nose. “Liar.”
You love me.
The words were caught in his nonexistent throat. He could say it, to push your buttons even further, but something held him back. Hesitation.
He wasn’t…quite ready to push it that far, yet.
You sighed dramatically, placing the scrub brush aside, only to reach for one of the toothbrushes he’d seen earlier.
“Are we playing dentist?”
“You’re half right.” Amusement sparkled in your eyes. “This is for, like, getting into the tiny places. The seams between your fingers and stuff. I’ll be using it on your face, too, so…”
“You came prepared.”
You grinned. “I told you I did.”
“All this for little old me?” He struck a bashful pose.
“Yes, you absolute goober. Now hold still…”
The feeling of the toothbrush sliding into his seams was much more pleasant than the scrub-brush. It still tickled, enough to make him twitch now and then, but it wasn’t overwhelming.
You were so gentle with the motions, making sure to get every nook and cranny that you could work the bristles into. Moon was a little shocked to see just how much grime the brush was picking up, but then again—it had been a very long time since they’d gotten any sort of attention in the “appearances” department.
Every time you swapped to a new area, you dip the brush into a small container of cleaner, swirling it around and wiping away the dirt from the surface of the bristles. But even with such meticulous attention to detail, it didn’t take long for it to become too dirty to keep using.
You ran through at least three brushes before you stopped to take a break.
“Seriously, how the hell did you guys get so dirty?”
Moon could only shrug. There were several components that contributed to their current state, but the biggest offender was plain out negligence.
You sighed and shook your head, grabbing a thermos from behind the stack of bottles and tipping it back. His eyes followed the movement of your throat every time you swallowed—a strange voyeuristic feeling.
A rivulet of water dripped from the corner of your mouth, rolling down your chin, then your throat, then over the dip of your clavicle and down beneath the collar of your shirt…he tore his gaze away. Focused on flexing his hands in his lap, then folded them together and squeezed, one foot tap-tap-tapping away, anxiously.
“Phew! God, I’m sweating like crazy. Is it okay if I take this off?” You fingered the neckline of your shirt with one hand, using the other to fan yourself with your hat.
He really wanted to say no. Because that would make him feel weirder.
But he couldn’t, when you looked at him like that. So earnest and innocent.
Moon nodded silently, looking away once more when you reached for the buttons. It felt…wrong, to watch you undo them. The sound of fabric rustling had his foot tapping just a bit faster.
“Okay! I’m good now.” You stretched your arms up above your head with a little moan. “God, that’s so much better.”
Moon found it hard to look at you directly, now that you were sitting there in a tank top. It wasn’t anything salacious, it was just. So intimate. There was so much more visible skin now, and his eyes kept moving over the muscles in your arms, across the curve of your abdomen…
The shape of your body was so much clearer now, and that made him feel…almost shy.
“Alright, last up is your face. I’m gonna have to get a little bit closer—is that okay?”
That was not okay. His system was on high alert.
But what was he supposed to say? You’d already gone this far, he couldn’t just say no. Despite really, really wanting to.
For a moment he felt the gears in his head grinding, a substitution for the teeth and jaw he lacked. The tension in his body felt like a rubber band pulled too tight, seconds away from snapping. It got worse when he forced himself to nod, only able to muster up a little grunt of affirmation.
“Alright. I’ll be careful, I promise.”
It wasn’t that he didn’t trust you. He did.
This was just. Too close.
You slid off the children’s chair, half-kneeling with one of your legs on the ground, a knee between his legs to balance yourself.
Too close. It was too close.
You reached up, rag in hand. Your fingers gently cupped the side of his face, feather-light touch sending sparks through his body.
Too. Close.
He felt his whole body go stiff as you pressed the soapy rag to his cheek.
Carefully, you moved it up to his forehead, then down to his chin. Warmth trailed down the metal of his face, burning in the wake of your touch. So hot that he almost couldn’t stand it.
Your eyes moved over his face as you swapped sides, smoothing down the crescent curve of his nose so delicately that it tickled. If he’d had the ability to sneeze, he probably would have.
“Sorry.” Your teeth dug lightly into your lower lip. “I know this is a lot. You’re doing a great job, Moonie.”
That did not help his situation at all.
Your praise struck him like a bolt of lightning, and he clenched his fists so tightly in his lap that he felt his metal knuckles pop.
“I really appreciate you letting me do this for you. I really, really care about you.” You paused to suck in a little breath. “I mean that.”
He could barely hear what you were saying. It was like static was buzzing in his ears, growing louder by the moment. All he could do was focus on the shape of your lips as they formed around each word.
“I…” The words refused to come out, caught in his nonexistent throat.
“It’s alright.” You laughed a little, placing the rag aside and reaching for the final toothbrush. “You don’t have to force yourself. I’m almost done.”
That wasn’t it.
You were just so close. The warmth of your body, your smell, the shape of you…it was suffocating him. If he leaned in, just a little bit more, he’d be able to wrap his arms around you, to feel the softness of your skin against his—
The abrupt tickle of the toothbrush rubbing against the seam in his faceplate made him jerk back.
“Sorry! Sorry.” You scoot forward, the hand on his cheek holding him in place a bit more firmly. “I’m almost done.”
Your body heat is suddenly all around him, then. You’re leaning up in his lap, both knees on the chair, straddling his leg. He can catch the scent of shampoo on your hair, scented lotion on your skin. He could count every lash framing your eyes. Feel the heat of your breath on his teeth—
His hands hover in the air, fingers twitching sporadically, just inches away from gripping you by the waist.
He wants to tell you to back up. But his invisible tongue is tied in knots.
He can’t stop looking at your face. Staring at you, as you maneuver the brush into the little dots lining his crescent-sloped nose.
“You have the cutest freckles.” You say, your lips turning up at the corners.
His body makes a strange noise. A low, grinding metallic sound that could be as much a growl as it could a whine.
That’s all the warning you get before he leans in, gripping you tight by the shoulders, and all but mashes his face against yours in a pathetic facsimile of a kiss.
It lasts for only a few seconds, but those seconds feel like an eternity. The softness of your lips against his hard, unyielding smile has his processor running at full tilt, fans blasting at full force inside of his chest, trying to chase off a heat that threatens to melt his insides into a gooey mess.
He was brought back to reality, then, as his brain caught up to his body.
Moon leaned back, shame burning through him. He slowly unfurled his hands from your shoulders, bringing them up to cover his face.
Why had he done that?
“M-Moon, I—what—”
Your voice is so small, trembling, and that just makes it so much worse.
“No, no.” He rasped, clawing at his cheeks. You stumbled back as he scrambled out of the chair, knocking it over in his haste to put distance between the two of you. “Against the rules. It’s wrong. Shouldn’t have done that. No, no, no—”
“Moon, stop.”
“Sorry, sorry, I’m sorry. Shouldn’t have done that. Stupid. Stupid, stupid, stupid—” Everything was spiraling. The gears inside his head grind so hard that it hurts.
He had you. He had something good. And he ruined it.
Sun was right. He ruined everything.
He always ruined everything good.
“Moon, stop!” Your fingers twine through his own, trying to pry his hands from his face. He can hear the panic in your voice. “Stop, you’re going to hurt yourself!”
“This is bad. This is wrong. It’s wrong.” He wanted to hide. He wanted to crawl into the dark, curl up in the shadows, and stay there forever. Away from you. Away from the good thing that he ruined. His fingers try to find purchase on something, anything, to grab and pull and break. “Wrong, wrong, wrong—”
“Moon…!”
He feels your fingers curl in the thin fabric of his neck ruffles—and then you yank.
The kiss is clumsy, teeth clicking against teeth as your lips smash against his plastic smile.
Everything in him screeches to a violent, almost painful halt. You’re kissing him.
And you keep kissing him.
Every kiss is hard and passionate, lips moving across his face as far as you can get to, standing on your tiptoes. He feels you stumble a little as you lean up into him, and his hands instinctively land on your waist to help you keep your balance.
“Wait, we can’t—”
“Sit.” You command.
He sits, following your will like the loyal, obedient dog that he is. He can see the chair he knocked over in front of him, sitting in what was your seat, but that view is quickly blocked when you climb into his lap. Your hands are trembling as they cup the sides of his face.
For a moment, your mouth opens and closes. Your brow furrows. You look like you want to say something, but no words come out.
So instead, you lean in and kiss him again.
And he lets you. He holds your tiny waist in his hands and leans into your touch, allowing the chaos filling his mind to simply melt away as you pepper kisses across his face.
Cheeks, nose, forehead, smile, eyebrows, chin. Back and forth and up and down and over and over—every kiss has his head spinning.
One of his large, metal hands come up to cradle the back of your head, urging you even closer. His fingers thread tenderly through your hair. Amongst the chaos, your hat is knocked free, falling to the wayside.
The heat of your body burns so hot through the thin fabric of your tank-top, and with the other hand, he gently squeezes the flesh of your side. A part of him wants to slide his fingers lower, to dip his hand beneath the shirt to feel the soft skin beneath.
It’s hot, it’s hot, it’s so hot he can’t stand it—
But then he feels your tongue slide across the thin curve of his lower lip, and he jerks back in shock. The thin line of saliva connecting your lips to his snaps.
“I, uh—ha..ha-ha…” You laugh a little as you rush to stand, quickly reaching up to wipe the drool from your mouth. Your lips are bruised red and a little puffy, cheeks flushed a pretty pink color. “Sorry, I-I got a little…uh, carried away.”
“Naughty.” Moon purrs, wagging a finger at you playfully. “Naughty boy.”
He feels so light and…and happy. That’s the only way he can put the bubbly, buzzy, excited feeling running all through his body. He’s happy.
“Was that…was that okay? That I…did…that?”” You can hardly look at him, eyes darting back-and-forth. He can feel you starting to pull back slightly, and his fingers curl possessively over the curve of your hip, keeping you tethered.
“…Maybe.” He muses, head cocking to the side. “Maybe not.”
“Oh.” Your face falls.
“Maybe you should…do it again.” His head tilted to the other side. “To make sure.”
He can’t help but giggle when obvious relief washes over your face.
“You…” Again, your lips move, not quite forming around words, like whatever you’re trying to say won’t quite come out. You settle with an awkward, lopsided smile. “So, it is okay? That I kissed you?”
Moon nodded, swaying lightly in his seat. “Yes. It’s…okay.”
He really wishes you would do it again.
“Okay. Okay! Good. I-I’m…yeah.” You laugh nervously, your cheeks still stained pink. Your grin stretches from ear-to-ear. Then you look up at him, and your expression morphs into an apologetic smirk.
“Cause now I’ve gotta clean your face off again.”
He stops swaying.
“Ah….” Moon can’t stop the little unhappy grunt that escapes him. He can still feel the sensation of each kiss buzzing against his metal skin. “Do you have to?”
“Yes, Moon, I have to.” You chuckle again, once more reaching for the cleaning supplies. “You can’t walk around with drool all over your face.”
“I’ve done it before.”
You fix him with a look. “You can’t walk around with MY drool all over your face.”
“Boo.” He crossed his arms, slumping back in a dramatic pout. His hat slumped over his face, the bell jingling as it bounced off his nose. “You’re no fun.”
A little whistle of air escapes your nose as you settled the other chair in front of him, scooting forward until your knees were touching. You reach up, gently moving the bell back over the curve of his head and beckoned him forward.
Moon, of course, leans into your hand without hesitation.
And so, you resume where you’d left off, with you gently wiping away the remnants of your improvised make-out session.
“So. Um.” Your voice cracks a little. “Are we, like…I mean. Do you…like…me?”
“Yes.” He says simply.
“No, I mean. Uh.” You suck in a shaky breath, still struggling to look him in the eye. “Like…like-like. Do you like me. In “that” way? Like—like “that”?”
He’s not sure how he didn’t make that clear. He thought that he had.
But you look like you want to sink into the earth right now, so he can’t help but tease you a little bit.
“Maybe.” Moon crooned, daintily folding his hands between his knees and swaying side-to-side. “Do you like-like me?”
He can hear the breath catch in your throat, and you look away quickly, face flushing an even deeper shade of red.
So very cute.
“Y-Yeah. I do. A lot.” You inhale slowly, forcing your eyes to meet with his. “I-I care about you, a lot, Moon. You’re…you’re my best friend and I…I like you. A lot.”
He stops swaying (again).
“Hm. Good.”
Before you can react, he leans forward to gently bump his smile against your forehead. You, of course, stare at him, wide-eyed and mouth agape.
“I like you…too.”
For a second, you look like you’re thinking about saying something—and Moon simply giggles when you lean in to kiss him again.
Maybe, if he asks nicely, he can keep this one.

Ohhgg Steven Grant getting baby fever... Reading that little drabble, I can only imagine it getting worse. He sees little clothes, children at a park, even nursery builds in an IKEA catalog and gives you those puppy dog eyes. He isn't pressuring you intentionally but God if he isn't the king of getting what he wants
Marc feels like he would be in the "we are not ready for a baby absolutely not" category. There are too many uncertain factors, so much can go wrong and he doesn't want his love or their child to get put in harms way because of his moon knighting so to speak
Jake could probably be convinced, but still would see the dangers and still tell you that it's something that they should really be on the same page and be extremely prepared for (don't get it wrong he would be ecstatic to be a papa)
Steven.... Baby fever is contagious.. he wants that taste of domestic bliss and all the hardships that come with it. I don't even want children, but I think Steven could convince me with little effort,,
Omg love the idea !!! 💕
Steven/ Marc/ Jake x reader
You weren’t expecting it when it started.
It was subtle at first—Steven’s eyes lingering a little longer than usual when you passed a baby stroller on the street, his lips parting in quiet awe when a toddler giggled at him in the grocery store. You noticed the way he hesitated in the baby aisle at Target, fingers brushing over the tiny socks like they were made of gold, and how he always seemed to pause when flipping through a magazine that happened to have an article about parenting.
At first, you thought it was nothing.
But then, you caught him staring at an IKEA catalog, completely ignoring the ‘practical storage solutions’ section he usually obsessed over. His focus? A nursery setup, all soft blues and yellows, tiny bookshelves filled with plush animals, and a crib that looked like it had been handcrafted by angels.
“Oh, no,” you muttered under your breath.
Steven Grant had baby fever.
And Steven Grant was very, very good at getting what he wanted.
It wasn’t like you hadn’t thought about it before. The idea of a little one running around, a mix of you and them, was… sweet. But this was not something you could decide on impulse.
And Marc? Marc was a hard no.
"We are absolutely not ready for a baby," he told you one night, arms crossed over his chest like a barrier between him and the conversation. "We have too much going on. Too many risks. Too much shit we still need to work through."
His voice was firm, but there was something in his eyes—fear. Not of being a father, necessarily, but of bringing a child into his world, a world that was dangerous, unpredictable.
Jake? Well.
"¿Un bebé, huh?" He tilted his head, assessing you with that sharp, knowing look. "I mean… It’s a big thing, mi vida. We’d have to be sure. Really sure. But…" A slow smirk spread across his face. "I'd be lying if I said I didn’t like the idea of a little one calling me ‘papá’ someday."
That left you in the middle of a tug-of-war you weren’t prepared for.
On one side, Steven and his dangerously persuasive pout.
On the other, Marc’s logic and fear.
And in between? Jake, who was probably enjoying this chaos a little too much.
It all came to a head one Saturday afternoon when you and Steven went to the park.
It was meant to be a simple outing—fresh air, a walk, maybe some ice cream. But then, Steven saw them.
The kids.
Toddlers chasing after bubbles, little ones waddling unsteadily across the grass, tiny hands reaching for their parents’ fingers. A dad lifted his giggling daughter into the air, spinning her around before settling her onto his shoulders.
Steven didn’t say anything.
He just looked.
And when you turned to him, his eyes were soft, filled with something deep and yearning.
"Love," he murmured, barely audible. "Can you imagine it? A little one. Someone to love, to protect… to teach about ancient Egypt and proper museum cataloging, of course."
You snorted, nudging him. "Because that's exactly what kids want to learn about."
"They should," he huffed playfully, but then, more seriously, "I just… I think about it a lot, yeah? I know it’s not simple, but I want that with you. I do."
You exhaled slowly, heart squeezing at the way he looked at you—like you were the whole damn universe.
"Steven…"
And then—
"Absolutely not."
Marc’s voice. Sharp. Unyielding. He was at the front now, pulling Steven back like a parent snatching a kid away from the edge of a cliff.
Steven groaned, rolling his eyes. "Marc—"
"No."
"Marc, c'mon, mate, it’s not like I’m asking for one right this second—"
"You're looking at car seats like you're about to shove one in our shopping cart."
Steven huffed. "That's exaggerating."
"It's not. Y/N, back me up here." Marc turned to you, arms crossed.
You hesitated. "Well… I mean…"
Steven’s eyes snapped to you, hopeful.
Marc’s narrowed.
You sighed. "Marc, I get it. I do. But…" You glanced at Steven, the sheer want in his expression making your stomach flip. "It’s not crazy to think about, is it?"
Marc groaned, rubbing his face. "Christ."
"See?" Steven beamed. "Not crazy."
"Not crazy," Marc muttered. "Just—fuck, okay, hypothetically—"
Steven’s eyes lit up.
"—if we ever did this, we’d need to be prepared. We’d need to think about safety. Logistics. The reality of it."
"Of course," Steven agreed immediately.
"And—"
"Ah, mierda, just give in already."
Jake.
"Jake." Marc’s voice was warning.
Jake just laughed, low and easy. "C’mon, hermano. You know you’re picturing it now."
"I’m not," Marc snapped, then scowled. "Okay, maybe a little."
Jake smirked.
Steven grinned.
Marc sighed, dragging a hand down his face. "Fuck."
That night, you and Steven curled up together on the couch, wrapped in a thick blanket, his arms snug around you.
"You really want this, don’t you?" you murmured, fingers threading through his curls.
Steven pressed a soft kiss to your shoulder. "More than anything, love."
You swallowed hard, leaning into him. Maybe… maybe this was something you could want.
Much later, when things turned heated—when Steven had you pressed against the mattress, murmuring sweet, desperate things against your skin—he whispered, "Y'know, practice makes perfect."
You flicked his forehead.
"Ow!"
"You're impossible."
"Yeah, but you love me."
You rolled your eyes, laughing breathlessly. "God help me, I do."

Oh and for a random detail, I randomly decided to pick up on learning how to use a jump rope properly (never learned as a kid) and now it's basically the only thing I'm doing in this summer (other than going to weddings)
Anyways hope you have a great day or night, sending you tonnsssss of bunnies , candy and hugs, and I'll see you later :D
Quick kisses!
awe this is such a cute idea!
‧₊˚ ┊ In which you give your boyfriend random kisses<3
୭˚. ᵎᵎ featuring » ness. kaiser. sae. kurona.
⋮ ⌗ ┆cw ⪼ fluff, female reader, established relationships, aged up, use of pet names

── .✦ Alexis Ness
Ness and you were currently cooking dinner together. Both scrambling around to either check the food in the oven and other making sure to put the salad together.
It was a normal week night… right?
Wellit would be if each time you passed by each other you didn’t stop him to place a quick kiss somewhere on his face. His eyes widening as his brows raised, turning to look at you but you were off in your own world while cooking.
Throughout making dinner you successfully landed five additional kisses to his face. A sigh leaving your boyfriend as he sat down at the table with you.
“All those kisses and you never aimed for my lips?”
You stared at him blankly before laughing. His pout being quite adorable in your eyes. “Right my apologies honey.”
Just then you leaned over and kissed him sweetly on his lips. Your widened eyes softened to the point they closed as he melted into the kiss. A whine leaving his lips as you pulled away.
“Lex we made all this food, didn’t you say you were hungry earlier?” You laugh as he rolls his eyes.
“Yeah but now I’m hungry for something else…”

── .✦ Michael Kaiser
Kaiser took you out shopping, enjoying watching you run around excitedly when you find a cute outfit. He also enjoyed being able to watch you put a show on for him.
And that is exactly what was currently happening. Kaiser was sitting in front of the dressing rooms, legs spread as he sat comfortably. Waiting for you to come out and show him an outfit you had put together.
Each time you showed him an outfit you placed a kiss on his lips. Never a long nor full kiss just a quick peck. Which the blonde didn’t like that very much; not being a fan of half-assed kisses in the first place.
Though to you, you weren’t thinking much of it. Finding it endearing that he was willing to sit patiently for you. So to your surprise when you were about to give him another kiss, he pulled you down onto his lap.
Gasping, as his hands gripped your hips. Lips connected he kissed you passionately, your eyes widening before you gave in to him.
That was until it clicked in your mind that the two of you were in a public place. Pushing away with a deep flush. “Michael what the hell!”
“You were teasing me with half-assed pecks, what did you expect me to do?” He remarked childishly.

── .✦ Sae Itoshi
You went along with Sae to practice. Enjoying the sight of your boyfriend working out and running across the field. Not failing to notice the small tricks he would slip in just for you.
Sitting near his water bottle, each time he was able to get a break. You would slip a small kiss to his face after using a towel to pat his face dry.
Of course after the first couple Sae was starting to grow agitated. He didn’t like quick shows of affection–it was like you were teasing him.
So when he was currently running up to your spot. Already noticing you get ready to pat him dry and give him his newly filled water bottle. All he did was grab your chin and pull you into a semi-long sweet kiss.
Your eyes slightly widening before you smile into the kiss. “What was that for?”
You ask after he pulls away, Sae shrugged while drinking his water. Muttering “I felt like it” instead of confessing to his agitation.
You laughed, waving him off as he ran back onto the field. Already preparing for his next small water break.
Quickly catching onto the fact he was doing way more for water breaks than normal, due to the looks he was receiving from his team mates. What could you say? Sae loved his girl.

── .✦ Ranze Kurona
Kurona wasn’t much of a people person. Staying relatively quiet in a group setting–only speaking a little bit to his particularly close friends. So when the two of you were invited to a small arcade hangout with his friends from blue lock. You could easily see your boyfriend either hanging around a small group or staying close to you.
“Ranze look!” You smiled pointed at a shark plush in the claw machine. Even before you two started dating you had a fascination with sharks. Which only got worse once you got with Kurona.
Now anything of the animal reminded you of your boyfriend. Meaning you had to have it. The two of you had matching shark plushies, onesies, and even necklaces. You two even had one of those apps where you could raise a virtual pet–of course you two picked a shark and named it Tuna.
So Kurona being the perfect boyfriend he was, he started playing the game to win the plushie. Each time he retried you kissed his cheek, cheering him on as he flusteredly worked the joy stick.
Finally after many kisses and many tries. Kurona won the plushie and handed it to you. His face was blushing red as you gave him a loving kiss as a thank you.
“Shark shark…” He muttered seemingly frozen.

23 days until Christmas
"Oh my god, you weren't kidding."
Anakin avoids her eyes, instead focusing on the dozen boxes in the middle of the room, all labeled CHRISTMAS in huge swirling letters he's certain his mom spent way too much time drawing in red and green sharpie.
"Yeah, it's a lot."
It's too much.
He hasn't even opened a single box yet and already he can feel grief stinging his eyes.
The first Christmas without his mom had nearly killed him.
Everything reminded him of her.
Every song in every store.
Every twinkling tree.
Every stupid car commercial featuring a wildly irresponsible financial decision wrapped up in an obnoxiously large bow.
Everything.
Everything made him wish he'd died right along with her.
Everything made him wonder if maybe he had.
Then he met Padme and suddenly it felt like life was worth living again—
Until December rolled around once more and Anakin broke down in sobbing gasping tears when Christmas Shoes came on her car radio on their way to meet her parents for the first time. They'd only been dating a few months and he was certain Padme would see his broken heart and run for the snow-covered hills. Instead, she'd called her parents to reschedule and sat with him as he blubbered on and on about how Christmas was his mom's favorite holiday and always went out of her way to make it special for him, even after the magic of belief had faded.
"It's just not Christmas without my mom."
"Then maybe we should include her."
They started slow, baking her favorite Christmas shortbread — Anakin even remembered to take the butter out of the fridge the night before — dipping the cooled and cut squares into melted chocolate while listening to her favorite Christmas album which, to Padme's great amusement, had been NSYNC's Home for Christmas. It wasn't a perfect solution, he still felt that gaping hole in his heart, still longed for something he could never have again, still got choked up as Chris Kirkpatrick and the boys sang out the lyrics "Please come home soon, it's not the same without you," in perfect five-part harmony— but then there was Padme, looking at him with care in her eyes and flour on her nose and something inside him eased as he swallowed that lump in his throat and stole a kiss from her smiling lips.
He still missed his mom.
He still saw her in everything.
He still got too drunk on Christmas day.
But it hurt a little less.
So this year, when Padme suggested they get his mom's old Christmas decorations out of storage, he'd thought it was a great idea.
Now, he's not so sure.
"We don't have to do this if you're not ready," she assures him for what feels like the four thousandth time, her hand rubbing soothing circles on his back, "I know this must be hard for you."
It is.
It's impossible.
And yet—
"I want to."
I have to.
The moment cardboard flaps are folded back to reveal the treasures within, Anakin feels his heart melt, burning tears rolling down his cheeks even as a wide smile splits his lips.
It looks like his childhood inside that box — colorful and creative — bright baubles and strings of sparkling snowflakes she used to hang from the ceiling and immediately he begins opening the rest of the boxes, desperate to unearth every memory he's buried since he buried his mother in the ground alongside his joy.
"Anakin, this is—" Padme breathes in something like awe, gently tracing her fingers over a colorful garland of hand-painted pinecones, "She really made all of this?"
"I helped," Anakin grins, remembering the days spent in his mom's cramped attic studio, covered in glue and glitter, paint and paper mache, "but yeah, most of it."
There are wreaths and ornaments and silly nicknacks that used to litter their house during the holiday season, each piece with its own story. Some make him laugh, some make him cry, all of it feels like home.
"Oh!" Padme exclaims with a delighted giggle, Anakin's eyes flicking up from the strand of vintage colored lights in his hands to find her pulling something from a carefully wrapped package, smiling brightly at the object inside before holding it up for him to see. "Who is this?"
Anakin's heart stops.
Scrambling to get his legs beneath him where he's sitting on the floor, Anakin crawls clumsily toward Padme, frantically reaching over several boxes to take the familiar figure she holds out for him, his mind whirling like winter winds as he holds the weight of cherished childhood memories in his hands.
"This is my elf."
Staring down at blue eyes and rosy cheeks, the words are little more than trembling breath, guilt pooling in his gut as he imagines his favorite Christmas companion alone in that box for three fucking years, tearful blue eyes squeezing shut as he hugs the doll to his chest like he can erase every lonely night if he just holds his long lost friend tight enough.
"This is my Obi-Wan."
#just a friendly reminder#i plan on ruining this for everyone#but it has to start sweet before it gets sour#and spicy#what have i done#elf on the shelf au

There’s currently a bill making its way through congress called the Fix Our Forests Act, though in all reality, the bill aims to totally fuck our forests.
🌲 Take action below!
FOFA is designed to make it easier for private companies to log more public forests in ecologically irresponsible ways that’s disguised as “wildfire strategy”, with clear origins rooted in misinformation and fear, instead of facts about forest ecology and the real causes of those fires.
Despite having flashy language about biodiversity and healthy forest management, it would essentially allow large areas of our public forests to be logged without discretion with absolutely no input from the public, no monitoring, recording or protections for endangered species, and without any input or signoff from scientific panels that determine what healthy stand structure and composure should look like. By excluding these aspects of management, FOFA reduces the amount of jobs provided, while also making no efforts for increasing jobs in the logging industry.
We have decades of hard science clearly showing the negative impacts of clearcutting and aggressive industrial logging in all our forests that come in the form of loss of carbon storage, biodiversity, resilience to wildfire, drought, landslides and sedimentation of streams that destroys salmon runs, as well as job losses and community collapse through commercial over-harvesting…and yet this bill aims to increase the ability for private logging companies to destroy our public forests with virtually no oversight or accountability.
FOFA doesn’t invest in the best solutions or do enough to protect our communities, and yet it has recently passed the House and is at risk of making its way through the Senate. If it passes, it will solidify some truly awful logging practices into legislation at a time when we need management practices backed by science and facts more than ever.
TAKE ACTION: Call and write to your senator using the tool in our bio and tell them to not support the Fix Our Forests Act for the sake of our forests, the communities that depend on them, and the future we all share!

All-Purpose Banishing Spray
This is from my recent (first video, awful quality) Samhain video on Evergreen Sorcery. It will get rid of all gunk in your space including nasty spirits.
Here is the recipe.
Ingredients
- Distilled Water: 3/4 cup
- Witch Hazel (alcohol-based is best for preservation): 1/4 cup (for solubilizing essential oils as well)
- DRIED Herbs: Pine, Cedar, Rue, Rose and their thorns
- Optional: Essential Oils Can be used in the placement of herbs
- (Optional for storage) Preservative: Optiphen Plus or Geogard ECT (follow manufacturer’s instructions; typically 0.5–1% of the total mixture)
Instructions
1. Infuse the Water: Boil the distilled water, then pour it over the dried herbs in a glass jar. Cover and let it steep until the water cools to room temperature. This creates a strong herbal infusion.
2. Strain the herbs out of the infusion using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth to avoid any plant particles in your spray. Make sure the liquid is clear.
3. Combine Ingredients: In a (preferably tinted) spray bottle, add the witch hazel and essential oils (optional) to the strained herbal infusion or just essential oils instead of herbs if you do not have herbal components.
4. Add Preservative: Add the preservative according to the manufacturer's recommended percentage for water-based formulas.
5. Mix and Store: Shake well, label (with date), and store in a cool, dark place and keep out of sunlight.
Tips on Preservatives
- Optiphen (op-tiphen) Plus: Ideal for water-based solutions.
- Geogard ECT: An eco-certified preservative that works well in a range of products.
Cautions:
Please be mindful of pets and other living beings, as certain ingredients, like essential oils, can harm them—it may be best to avoid using these near animals. Note that it’s normal for this mixture to become cloudy or separate over time; however, if you notice an off smell, it’s time to discard it. Also, remember that the oils in the mixture may cause stains on surfaces like bedding.

:// DOUBLE AGENT
Born in 2011, Meredith was the youngest of two daughters to Bernard and Maighread Stannard. When she was just a young child, her family immigrated to Night City on a lucrative job offer for her father to work within one of the many corporations, while her mother stayed at home to take care of Meredith and her older sister, Amelia.
Within the first decade spent in the city-state, the Stannards adjusted to the American way of life, including the technological evolution of early cyberware - with Bernard's job, they were able to afford some of the newest solutions to helping their eldest daughter with some of her bodily abilities and mental stability. It became apparent that this was the way of the future, that dear Amy would not have to suffer through chronic health issues for the rest of her young life.
However, slowly but surely, the signs of what would later be called cyberpsychosis spread to the elder Stannard daughter. It was a slow descent in the process of disassociation with her frail body, but one that had awful repercussions. No longer fully herself, in an emotional outburst, Amy turned first on her parents before taking out anyone in her way as she tried to flee their megabuilding. Young Meredith had ran upon the first blood shed, hiding in a storage closet and hoping her sister wouldn't find her. 70 other innocent neighbours and friends were killed before the NCPD and MaxTac were able to stop her, killing her in the process.
Finally hearing the silence after a barrage of gunshots and grenades, Meredith left her hiding place, approaching the first NCPD officer she saw - an officer named Wentworth Kell - and she clung to his leg, refusing to leave his side. Devastated by the scene, and empathetic to a 7 year old child made an orphan by such horrific circumstances, he opted to take her in as a foster, at first, until finding her a suitable home. However, as he got to know Meredith, he saw she was an intelligent girl with a lot of bright promise for the future in a bleak world; with no other children of his own, he decided to officially adopt her several months after the incident, so she could flourish under his care and live a relatively normal life.
However, by mid-2022, the Fourth Corporate War escalated into widescale global conflicts between Arasaka Corporation and Militech International Armaments. Despite efforts made by the governments involved to nationalize both corporations' assets, tensions still lingered, with secretive attacks made on both sides. At this time, Night City remained home to most of Arasaka's remaining stateside forces, but on August 20, 2023, a small nuclear device was detonated in the Arasaka Tower by a strike team led by Morgan Blackhand, killing 12,000 employees of the corporation. The explosion destroyed the building, and debris from the Tower crashed into nearby structures, setting off a series of chain reactions, gas line and transformer explosions, and intense fires. The Corporate Center of Night City became a radioactive hot zone. While Wentworth and Meredith lived beyond the blast radius zone, the explosion had dire repercussions on Night City and its remaining residents in the initial fallout. At just 12 years old, Meredith was greatly affected by witnessing this historical event, especially as Wentworth spent many long days in the rescue and recovery efforts as a police officer, coming home exhausted to a daughter who had spent much of the evening glued to the television, watching all the reports about the devastation.
The subsequent PR campaign that President Elizabeth Kress ran after the detonation, which suggested that Arasaka had the nuclear weapon as a "failsafe" to prevent defeat from the stronger forces of Militech, had a substantial influence on Meredith's outlook on life. Much akin to how the United States took the patriotism angle to recruit young people into the military after 9/11, this PR campaign made 12 year old Meredith decide then and there that she would pursue a career with Militech someday.
Begging Wentworth to go from regular public school to one of Militech's academies, he used what savings he had to pay her tuition each year. He saw how much fire and passion she had towards this goal, and felt it best to foster it in whatever way he could. For the next 7 years, Wentworth became Meredith's mentor in the best ways he knew how; she was his daughter, and he wanted to teach her everything he knew. In turn, Meredith studied hard to make him proud, and the two became very close as she became a teenager. However, as Wentworth aged, he began showing signs of early onset Alzheimer's. Despite the numerous medical advancements available, he couldn't afford any kind of preventative treatments because it would mean he'd have to pull Meredith out of the academy. He did not tell her initially about the symptoms, not wanting to worry her, but when things became too difficult to work, he retired from the NCPD early; he confessed his diagnosis, which upset Meredith but she vowed to take care of him as he had taken care of her. For two years, his disease progressed quickly - Meredith became his personal carer while still trying to graduate, and while challenging, she still succeeded. However, by that point, Wentworth's mental faculties left him to the point he no longer recognized her. By age 19, Meredith buried her adoptive father, and a few months later, began her career with Militech.
For the first few years of her career as an agent, Meredith demonstrated a strong understanding of technical knowledge and practical usage of weaponry (thanks to Wentworth's insistence that she know how to handle any and all kinds of guns, with many hours spent at the shooting range in her youth). Her bosses saw her potential, and chose to elate her position, fitting her primarily new Generation 3 Cyberware as per their standards for agents. While recovery took some time and learning how to use her new enhancements took several months, Meredith demonstrated a strong command of her technical skills in training demonstrations; while she would never become a fully-fledged net runner, she had a penchant for the use of quickhack capabilities, making good use of Militech's flagship operating system, the Paraline MK 4.
As an agent, Meredith became specialized into a blitz style of approach, using a combination of quickhacking enemies from cover to going in blazing with auto-locking SMART guns to finish them off. It became apparent to her superiors that Meredith spent much of her off-duty time training, learning, and pushing her physical fitness (even with cybernetics, she still felt it necessary to maintain good bio-health, too) way more than others in her cohort. In this way too, she showed great promise for a leadership role, even as a young 20-something with limited in-field experience. She was cited by her superiors as being "icy and steeled, yet charismatic", following orders and seeing every mission through to its success. Her die-hard loyalty to the corp made her a prime candidate for an early command-track advancement, and in 2040 at age 29, Meredith became the leader of a militarized special operations unit, in control of recruitment, training, and deployment to difficult missions received from the higher ups in Militech.
For 30 years, Meredith became a prominent figurehead and competent leader. Strict, rule-abiding, and vicious, with every successful mission, her reputation grew. Over the years, she continued to make small, but impactful changes to her cybernetic implants, becoming a powerful individual by her own right, and comfortable by what her body and mind were capable of doing.
In 2069, newly elected NUSA President and former Militech CEO, Rosalind Myers began making efforts to extend federal rule over the autonomous separatist Free States under the pretense of strengthening the nation. Most of the Free States opposed this, which began the Unification War. During this conflict, Arasaka took the opportunity to secretly finance the Free States with intentions of re-establishing its influence on North America. Despite providing new weapons and corporate "security advisers", the NUSA military (made up of Militech's advanced technology and backed by other federal states) pressed back hard. By mid 2070, after numerous conflicts, federal NUSA forces had occupied every warring Free State, except for Texas and Northern California, though on June 6th, the NUSA carpet bombed its capital city of Sacramento, causing many more casualties in the war. To the southwest, Night City, had avoided fighting by barely maintaining a position of neutrality; fears of an impending invasion were shared amid its vast population, especially as one Col. Hansen occupied a part of Pacific that would later be named Dogtown with an NUSA detachment. Citizens who tried to flee as refuges found that the only remaining Free State of Texas closed its borders to them. While an attack seemed inevitable as NUSA forces were seen approaching the outskirts, Councilman Lucius Rhyne used his connections to the Night City Council to ask Arasaka Corporation for protection. By June 12th, an Arasaka supercarrier showed up in Del Coronado Bay, and a few hours later, the NUSA retreated from the area. Even FIA agents who had infiltrated Night City were called off by the President.
Following Arasaka's intervention, all parties involved were unwilling to commit to a full-scale war. Shortly afterward, a peace treated was proposed; President Myers agreed to the terms as the NUSA could not afford the costs of an escalation in conflict. Signed in Arvin, South California, The Treaty of Unification (or, the Arvin Accord), ended the war in summer of 2070. This treaty ensured that the Free States would remain autonomous, provided that they agreed to participate in the federal government, and cease hostilities amongst themselves. Night City maintained its full autonomy, seceding from North Californian and NUSA laws, to become an international free city. Texas did not participate and remained a fully autonomy and hostile state to the NUSA. All in all, Arasaka Corporation gained the most, as the ban from the Fourth Corporate War was lifted, and the corp was able to return to North America. This marked a return to growing corporate competition, interests, and tensions within Night City's borders. Corps pumped money into revitalizing the metropolis to establish a foothold on the West Coast. Later that same year, newly elected Mayor Rhine allowed Arasaka to build the new American HQ on the same site of the old Arasaka Tower that had been destroyed 47 years prior.
With this war, circumstances changed, and led to renewed concerns regarding Arasaka's intentions with their return to North American soil. For this reason, along with her numerous accolades and accomplishments, Meredith was selected by her commanding officer, Elthina Atkins, for a delicate and sensitive undercover assignment. This meeting was taken off the record from ever existing, as Elthina informed Meredith of a rather Machiavellian scheme; as an experienced and competent agent, Meredith would appear to be a DOUBLE AGENT and betray Militech to go to Arasaka, presenting them with some sensitive intel that she 'took' with her to demonstrate her value and commitment to the cause, with the intention of working for 'the other side.' This mission would require years of building up trust and truly cutting any and all ties to Militech, fully immersing herself in Arasaka Corporation, until she could begin to slowly siphon sensitive and informative data back to Elthina. The idea in and of itself was insane, but in Meredith's mind, this would be the mission that could escalate her power and authority within Militech (provided she was successful), to be among the inner circle of executives with in-field experience, and could give her the potential for political power as well, should she play her cards correctly.
By 2072, Meredith Stannard officially betrays Militech. She leaves with her cyberware intact, losing all official connections, ranks, and benefits from the corp. This action is felt throughout her division and it even reaches the higher ups as something to be concerned about her intentions (as Elthina does not inform anyone about this undercover operation - it must seem as genuine as possible in order for it to work). Meredith approaches Arasaka Corporation, painting her exit and betrayal as a part of irreconcilable differences, and that she has set out to provide their strongest competitor with valued information and intel, should she be given a position within the company. Pleased with the data about Militech's increased numbers and location of several safehouses and strongholds, Meredith is hired. For the next 5 years, Meredith works diligently for Arasaka, adorned in black, red, and white, succeeding in their newest endeavours, while slowly learning and accessing data as her position allows her to.
However, by 2077, after the death of Saburo Arasaka and the rise of his son, Yorinobu as the next CEO, there is a sudden and dramatic shift within the corporation. He blames his father's death on Militech, which exacerbates existing tensions between the corporations, all the while slowly and subtly dismantling Arasaka, framing these changes as necessary reforms and financial streamlining. While Meredith had been slowly feeding information back to Elthina in secret, hidden meetings over the past year, she believes that she needs to make her return to Militech before things disintegrate entirely; Elthina pushes her to stay and gather as much intelligence as possible, and she follows this directive, staying on for another couple of months.
In the meantime, however, while still an active Arasaka agent, Meredith meets Amelia Comstock ( @sanctamater ) in an elite club, hidden away from the general public. While Meredith may have been high on a substantial amount of cocaine, she was well aware that she was getting dangerously involved in a casual sexual encounter with Militech's COO - and cared little for the implications at the time. It wasn't until the next morning that Amelia scanned Meredith for information and then sought out more about how she ended up going from Militech to Arasaka. Gradually through the development of their casual relationship, Meredith later ends up confessing about the entire plan as devised by Elthina, promising she can acquire a "tide-changing" piece of intel to Amelia in order to prove her claim. In turn, Amelia gives her two weeks to do so, and she succeeds. This leads to Elthina's "exit" from the corporation, as her decision to both create this undercover operation without clearance as well as sending one of Militech's best agents into an overly risky situation was never approved. This series of actions leads to Meredith's departure from Arasaka, and her reinstatement to Militech, with all of her access and credentials returned with COO Comstock's direct approval.
For the remainder of 2077 - particularly ramping up during the events of Phantom Liberty - and for about 8-9 months, Meredith answers to and works for Amelia directly; she is sent on special missions that require more and more from her. Meredith feels the constant pressure to succeed in these missions for both the corp and her lover, and continues to acquire the best cyberware available to her through Militech, including some experimental and black market pieces. She becomes incredibly 'chromed' out. Not quite on Adam Smasher's level, but as much as she can be while still looking relatively human.
However, in this time, Meredith seeks out a rumoured black market shard, said to increase her strength and capacity tenfold. She spends a great deal of eddies to acquire it, desperate to continue serving the corp and its COO, and hungry for the power it could give her. However, it is loaded with a virus - RED_LYRIUM.exe. Unbeknownst to Meredith, it begins to corrupt her from within, slowly and surely over a period of weeks. She slowly begins to lose control of herself, experiencing advanced symptoms of cyberpsychosis. When she finally snaps, she causes a severe number of innocent deaths by her hand, only brought down when Amelia tries to get her to see reason through recognition amid the chaos (and is subsequently tranquilized by MaxTac). She is brought in to the best facility to handle victims of cyberpsychosis, and goes through the excruciating process of having all cyberware removed. Meredith remains in a coma for the better part of a year, with her consciousness plugged into the Net, where she and Amelia are able to communicate. The recovery is brutal and it leaves her disfigured and scarred. (She later opts for plastic surgery that smooths out and fixes her facial scars, but leaves her body scars alone).
It is at this time that Amelia proposes to Meredith, and once she is healed, the two marry. Soon thereafter, Amelia, her daughter Liz, and Meredith leave Night City for good - destination: Bora Bora - where they live the rest of their days in peace, putting their involvement in the corporate world behind, once and for all.

Recursion Fractal
[Dreamwidth] [SquidgeWorld]
They had their differences, of course, even if he could see the multiplicities of similarities.
-
Jeannie was so, so curious. He had been, too - still was - but watching her marvel at Atlantis felt like entering the city for the first time again. Touching the door frames, or peering at the ceilings, or staring out the enormous windows to the ocean around them wasn't something she did often. As much as they they argued amongst themselves, his sister was still a scientist at heart and just as focused as he was on their problem of the day.
But still, he kept the glances to a minimum, letting her absorb the truth of the city's existence at her own speed. It was something they had discussed, when they were younger, before all of the things that had come between them. Neither of them could afford a telescope at the time, but they'd climb to the roof in the summer, cling to the edges of it and marvel at the stars while they speculated what those stars might look like and the planets revolving around them.
And here both of them were, not only far away from those summertime stars that kept them company at night, but in a different galaxy entirely, one far enough away even the best of household telescopes a child could get their hands on couldn't see. He ducked his head down, focusing on the figures his computer was telling him from the latest round of testing on the device, instead of listening to Jeannie marvel with Radek about how the city stayed afloat.
Wherever the other Rodney was, he at least wasn't soaking up all the attention of Jeannie and everyone else. Probably the other him was schmoozing his way through an untold amount of expedition members, shredding whatever reputability he had scrummaged up here - which wasn't much, but he had become accustomed to living here, and the idea of going back to Earth because everyone decided they liked an alternate universe version of him sucked.
Jeannie was listening intently to Radek as he described something to her. Whatever was in his hands was obscured by all the crap they left on the work tables, but it was probably a scanner because that was one of Radek's favourite things to show off to the new scientists. And, yeah, he could understand it, the way Radek was thrilled and Jeannie marvelling.
She was the first, and perhaps – at least in his lifetime – the only, person outside the program to know any of this existed. It left him with some complicated feelings he was sure their resident psychiatrist would love to chew on, chiefly of which was the spark of generosity he felt. If they had time, he would have loved to show his sister everything from their internal publishing house for their research, to meeting the Athosians, to seeing the wreckage of the hive ship they found so early in their time here. But merely being on the Daedalus had terrified Jeannie, before the tentative curiosity had overlaid the edges of her fear, buffering it into awe. To meet a wraith, or at least the database holograms of it? The dangers that they still found within Atlantis, merely exploring storage areas or deserted labs, was enough for his throat to tighten in anxiety. That was his only baby sister standing there on the other side of the lab. He had to get her out of the city as quickly as possible. Looking at his computer, and the figures that needed dissecting for analysis, he transferred it to his portable computer, intent on finding his alternate self. Everyone needed a solution to this problem, and quickly.

Fractal (Wikipedia):
In mathematics, a fractal is a geometric shape containing detailed structure at arbitrarily small scales, usually having a fractal dimension strictly exceeding the topological dimension. Many fractals appear similar at various scales, as illustrated in successive magnifications of the Mandelbrot set.[1][2][3][4] This exhibition of similar patterns at increasingly smaller scales is called self-similarity, also known as expanding symmetry or unfolding symmetry; if this replication is exactly the same at every scale, as in the Menger sponge, the shape is called affine self-similar.[5] Fractal geometry lies within the mathematical branch of measure theory.
Recursion (Wikipedia):
Recursion occurs when the definition of a concept or process depends on a simpler or previous version of itself.[1] Recursion is used in a variety of disciplines ranging from linguistics to logic. The most common application of recursion is in mathematics and computer science, where a function being defined is applied within its own definition. While this apparently defines an infinite number of instances (function values), it is often done in such a way that no infinite loop or infinite chain of references can occur. A process that exhibits recursion is recursive. Video feedback displays recursive images, as does an infinity mirror.

Contemplating: Necromancy and the Utility of the Skeleton
From aesthetics alone the skeleton does many things for the necromancer. A clear benefit is simply in the knowledge of the subject being a dead thing in and of itself. With any variation of the corpse from zombie to revenant there can be doubts at a glance as to what one is dealing with but moving bones are distinct at most distances and let a person know that any harm they deal to it, accidental or otherwise, wont hurt a living thing. On the other side, the person seeing the skeleton will know that it won't feel pain and has no nervous system holding it back in how strong it will strike someone else. This functions as a form of deterrence from combat as well as telegraphs the danger of handling the skeleton beyond its designated task.
The skeleton, contrary to common sense, is less cost effective than a zombie in terms of raising. The mechanism of imprinting magic upon a corpse via its soulless form means that with less material there, there is more work and more raw magical structure needed to maintain the skeleton. This being said, the zombie will decay and are a short term solution sonits better to invest as a skeleton will be cost effective over time and has the added benefit of not smelling awful. Many an old necromancer cut their noses off and burned their sinuses not just to resemble a corpse in their horde as camouflage, but more so to kill the smell of working with so many zombies.
At an average weight of 20 pounds, the human skeleton is very portable if a single servant is needed and one is conserving their magic between uses. This does covert an unit of 100 servants to about a ton, which could staff a mansion easily and handle all tasks besides handling guests and the cooking for obvious reasons. Like with other skeletons, a human skeleton can utilize their ribs as a means of storage or carrying tools to keep their hands free. Special tools could easily be made for a gardener or a maid to reach in and tend to their tasks while having free hands and look presentable if a chest cover is used to tastefully hide dirty or worn tools.
Besides issues of durability which can be addressed with coatings and reinforcements to the structure of the skeleton, bones tend to still be sturdy even when dry and set, only they cannot self-repair so any damage will need prevented or filled as it occurs. Skeletons are not an unlimited resource, as are bodies in general, but those gathered and maintained properly in a closed and respectful environment can last a lifetime.

Centralizing AWS Root access for AWS Organizations customers

Security teams will be able to centrally manage AWS root access for member accounts in AWS Organizations with a new feature being introduced by AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM). Now, managing root credentials and carrying out highly privileged operations is simple.
Managing root user credentials at scale
Historically, accounts on Amazon Web Services (AWS) were created using root user credentials, which granted unfettered access to the account. Despite its strength, this AWS root access presented serious security vulnerabilities.
The root user of every AWS account needed to be protected by implementing additional security measures like multi-factor authentication (MFA). These root credentials had to be manually managed and secured by security teams. Credentials had to be stored safely, rotated on a regular basis, and checked to make sure they adhered to security guidelines.
This manual method became laborious and error-prone as clients’ AWS systems grew. For instance, it was difficult for big businesses with hundreds or thousands of member accounts to uniformly secure AWS root access for every account. In addition to adding operational overhead, the manual intervention delayed account provisioning, hindered complete automation, and raised security threats. Unauthorized access to critical resources and account takeovers may result from improperly secured root access.
Additionally, security teams had to collect and use root credentials if particular root actions were needed, like unlocking an Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) bucket policy or an Amazon Simple Queue Service (Amazon SQS) resource policy. This only made the attack surface larger. Maintaining long-term root credentials exposed users to possible mismanagement, compliance issues, and human errors despite strict monitoring and robust security procedures.
Security teams started looking for a scalable, automated solution. They required a method to programmatically control AWS root access without requiring long-term credentials in the first place, in addition to centralizing the administration of root credentials.
Centrally manage root access
AWS solve the long-standing problem of managing root credentials across several accounts with the new capability to centrally control root access. Two crucial features are introduced by this new capability: central control over root credentials and root sessions. When combined, they provide security teams with a safe, scalable, and legal method of controlling AWS root access to all member accounts of AWS Organizations.
First, let’s talk about centrally managing root credentials. You can now centrally manage and safeguard privileged root credentials for all AWS Organizations accounts with this capability. Managing root credentials enables you to:
Eliminate long-term root credentials: To ensure that no long-term privileged credentials are left open to abuse, security teams can now programmatically delete root user credentials from member accounts.
Prevent credential recovery: In addition to deleting the credentials, it also stops them from being recovered, protecting against future unwanted or unauthorized AWS root access.
Establish secure accounts by default: Using extra security measures like MFA after account provisioning is no longer necessary because member accounts can now be created without root credentials right away. Because accounts are protected by default, long-term root access security issues are significantly reduced, and the provisioning process is made simpler overall.
Assist in maintaining compliance: By centrally identifying and tracking the state of root credentials for every member account, root credentials management enables security teams to show compliance. Meeting security rules and legal requirements is made simpler by this automated visibility, which verifies that there are no long-term root credentials.
Aid in maintaining compliance By systematically identifying and tracking the state of root credentials across all member accounts, root credentials management enables security teams to prove compliance. Meeting security rules and legal requirements is made simpler by this automated visibility, which verifies that there are no long-term root credentials. However, how can it ensure that certain root operations on the accounts can still be carried out? Root sessions are the second feature its introducing today. It provides a safe substitute for preserving permanent root access.
Security teams can now obtain temporary, task-scoped root access to member accounts, doing away with the need to manually retrieve root credentials anytime privileged activities are needed. Without requiring permanent root credentials, this feature ensures that operations like unlocking S3 bucket policies or SQS queue policies may be carried out safely.
Key advantages of root sessions include:
Task-scoped root access: In accordance with the best practices of least privilege, AWS permits temporary AWS root access for particular actions. This reduces potential dangers by limiting the breadth of what can be done and shortening the time of access.
Centralized management: Instead of logging into each member account separately, you may now execute privileged root operations from a central account. Security teams can concentrate on higher-level activities as a result of the process being streamlined and their operational burden being lessened.
Conformity to AWS best practices: Organizations that utilize short-term credentials are adhering to AWS security best practices, which prioritize the usage of short-term, temporary access whenever feasible and the principle of least privilege.
Full root access is not granted by this new feature. For carrying out one of these five particular acts, it offers temporary credentials. Central root account management enables the first three tasks. When root sessions are enabled, the final two appear.
Auditing root user credentials: examining root user data with read-only access
Reactivating account recovery without root credentials is known as “re-enabling account recovery.”
deleting the credentials for the root user Eliminating MFA devices, access keys, signing certificates, and console passwords
Modifying or removing an S3 bucket policy that rejects all principals is known as “unlocking” the policy.
Modifying or removing an Amazon SQS resource policy that rejects all principals is known as “unlocking a SQS queue policy.”
Accessibility
With the exception of AWS GovCloud (US) and AWS China Regions, which do not have root accounts, all AWS Regions offer free central management of root access. You can access root sessions anywhere.
It can be used via the AWS SDK, AWS CLI, or IAM console.
What is a root access?
The root user, who has full access to all AWS resources and services, is the first identity formed when you create an account with Amazon Web Services (AWS). By using the email address and password you used to establish the account, you can log in as the root user.

Last year, rather than pick a new years' resolution, I made over a dozen new years' resolutions and tried to get them all done. I paced myself with the objective of fitting them all into the year, but... ran into an unexpected obstacle where I kind of didn't have an October, November, or December due to my company abruptly getting sold and my life turning into a nonstop living hell. With that in mind... how'd I do?
get star seeker sequel adventure thing up and running and through the first case
Didn't finish this one! I did start it in September, and I was making good progress and probably would've had it done by the end of the year if I'd had three months to work on it.
get datasouls combat toy complete up to the first miniboss combat
Did it! Tutorial section combat toy is playable on the site.
catch up on TFJ recap logs
Didn't do it! There were a lot of them, and I kind of got bottlenecked on one where I wanted to wait for an art commission to come in that got put off for most of the year. I got sixteen of them done, but more sessions than that happened during the year, so overall I'm behind. Womp womp.
become an accredited AWS Certified Solutions Architect and get that raise my boss has been talking about for ages
Ha ha ha ha did it technically. I did get certified, and I did get the raise, but the raise was more a product of aggressive salary negotiation when the company got sold and my boss got fired. Also accomplishing the second part of that one resulted in me losing a quarter of my year to nightmarish IT bullshit. Oops.
get an adjustable standing desk and under-desk elliptical thingy, and otherwise get an ergonomic workstation set up
Kinda did it. I did, technically, get both things, but the elliptical I got turns out isn't rated for standing use, so I couldn't combine them into a standing workflow the way I wanted. Gotta get a new one and actually put this into practice.
fix the light situation in the bathroom
Yeah just had to call an electrician. Did it no problem.
get through The Sekimeiya and really go to town on that mystery until it’s solved
Nope! Again, probably would've managed it if I'd had time, but I put it off till last since I figured it'd be an easy thing I could fit in around the busy holidays, and it turned out there was a lot worse than just the holidays going on at that time.
also finally play Disco Elysium
This one though- did it, that game is fucking phenomenal.
finish TFTBN character portraits
Did it! Proud of how those turned out.
get a beatrice portrait for my poster wall
run some TPIVW games
Didn't do it, mainly because of an awkward social situation with one of the server participants involving my role as a mod on a different server. Still working that one out. It's rough.
badger the condo association landlady until she does something about the junk clogging up that basement storage room i’m supposed to own, and clean unused bulky stuff out of my house
Did it! Mostly. Still need to get rid of this huge elliptical- it's not selling on craigslist for some reason.
clearly this waitlist thing isn’t working out so take some steps to see an actual doctor for the first time in like three years (and maybe get a cancer screening, or do something about that closed sinus)
Did it! Didn't get the cancer screening mainly because my doctor insisted it'd be unnecessary until I was at least 40, which sounds fake but I don't know enough about cancer to dispute it. I tried various nasal sprays for the sinus thing but I'm pretty sure mucus overproduction is not the issue and I'm gonna need to get surgery, which I didn't get yet. But I did see a doctor finally!
get through the remaining 7 WaniKani levels
Did it! Still need to finish off the remainder of the reviews and do a practice pass and get back on the horse with grammar, but I'm pretty happy about that accomplishment.
Overall, despite a weak finish due to factors mainly outside of my control, I think I did pretty well, and I think having the big list meant I had a much more productive 2023 than I would've had otherwise. Probably gonna make this a recurring thing!
