WIP Wednesday

Okay, so, I got tagged by @ayotofu but I'll be completely honest and say I have no idea how this works, or what the rules of this thing are. So, I don't have a fic in the same fandom as them (9-1-1), but I do have plenty of WIPs, so, you get 700 words of a Dead Boy Detectives thing I'm working on instead.

I'm going to go ahead and tag @e-vasong and @dont-offend-the-bees if they want to share, but if they don't want to no pressure! Also, if you want to be tagged, consider yourself tagged.

Crystal is comfortable. She’s warm, and well-rested, with no demons in her head and three best friends surrounding her. Her arm rests on the arm of Charles’ and Edwin’s uncomfortable couch. Her feet are tucked up next to her, bare toes under Niko’s legs. Niko, rather than resting on the other arm of the couch, leans against Crystal’s shoulder, a steady weight at her side. Rain drums on the window but it’s a Saturday morning – they have nowhere to be today and no obligations to attend to. The rain is a comforting, steady drumbeat rather than a dreary slog to get through. Tucked into the minifridge she’d convinced the boys to get sometime between their return from Port Townsend and their rescue of Niko are two slowly defrosting frozen pizzas: lunch, in a few hours, heated by the microwave she’d also convinced them to get that sits atop the fridge. It’s a rare, lazy day for the agency and all four of them plan to take advantage of it together. With the day stretching out before them, it feels like they have all the time in the world. “No, no, no,” Charles is saying now, grinning down at her and Niko from where he leans against the minifridge-microwave combo. “That’s too simple. Can’t be anything too simple – need to impress the clients, don’t we?” “And the current name does that?” Crystal mutters wryly with a grin.

Charles scoffs comfortably at her. He turns his head with ease, staring down his best friend. “C’mon, Edwin, back me up here.” Edwin does not look up from his desk. He’s the only one of the three of them doing anything that could remotely be considered work, though he’d been adamant that he enjoys comparing old case files with current ones and taking notes about the differences and similarities. Just as Charles has stripped down to his polo, suspenders hanging off his hips, Edwin has shed a few layers too. He still has on his vest, and he hasn’t rolled up his sleeves, but the bowtie and other layers are gone. (He says he’s concentrating, but Crystal’s seen his lips quirk a few times during their discussion.) “I have not agreed to change our name, Charles,” he says, dry and fond all at once. Crystal rolls her eyes fondly in return, even if he isn’t looking to see it. Edwin’s a pushover when it comes to Charles and everyone here knows it – however much he doesn’t like change, if Charles asks for it, Edwin’ll give it. Of course, she’s not convinced Charles is committed either, it’s just a fun discussion for the moment – same as Edwin’ll do anything for him, if Charles thinks Edwin genuinely wouldn’t like something (or at least tolerate it for him), he wouldn’t push for it. “Simple can be nice,” Niko counters easily. “I mean, Dead Boy Detectives is simple, isn’t it?” Charles’ head spins around so he can gape at her properly. “Simple?” he asks, mock horrified. “Well, kinda, yeah,” Crystal says in support. “I mean, you’re dead boys, and you’re detectives, aren’t you?” Charles shakes his head, as if distressing over them disparaging the agency’s name, but Crystal can see him trying not to smile. She exchanges her own grin with Niko. “How did you guys pick the name the first time?” she finds herself asking, and then: “Not even just the name, really. How’d you guys decided to be detectives in the first place?” That does get Edwin to look up from his desk. He exchanges a long glance with Charles, that kind where they have a whole conversation in seconds. Crystal can’t read them nearly as well as they can each other, but she can see the amusement and fondness bouncing between them. Edwin rolls his eyes and concedes to Charles with a slight nod. Charles, grinning gleefully, rubs his hands together. “Right. Get ready for the story of a lifetime, girls.” At Crystal’s side, Niko straightens attentively. Crystal can’t seem to stop herself from smiling, steeped in the warmth of the moment. Off to the side, she catches Edwin rolling his eyes again, but he’s leaning back in his chair instead of returning to the files on his desk.

Have y’all read this CWTV DC fanfic “To Hell And Back?” It’s hella engaging, and it’s fairly recent (if you count recent as in about 6 months ago).

So the premise is basically Oliver Queen, Barry Allen, Kara Zor-El and Kal-El got stranded on Lian Yu together (it’s not just Oliver), some angst happened, then they got recruited into the League of Assassins so they have little to no hesitation on murder, and they just—different from their OG counterparts, both the show and the comics.

Without spoiling anything, it takes the events of canon (from all of their respective shows; Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl respectively) and twist them to fit the narrative, and hell yeah it is good. Just—if you’re somewhat familiar with the shows, I highly recommend this fanfic to read on your leisure, it is *chefs kiss* awesome.

final tag watches supernatural update for season 7: hey yall, just finished season 7, i liked this season, i think it was silly yk. i think bobby went out kinda anti-climatically and wouldn’t have minded if he stuck around a little bit more but whatever. i didn’t really like the leviathans, they remind me of the primary villains that the arrowverse shows on cw would have every season and i was never a fan of those. i liked how the whole “sam having being tortured by lucifer” was solved cus i was really confused how they were gonna fix that. i really liked meg this season for some reason idk i thought she was fun and like how there was an actual like demon that was their ally. i loved cas at the end of the season, he was so silly and i loved how he just wore his psych ward fit but with his trenchcoat, like that’s such a good fit bro. only thing i’m upset about is like why tf did they send dean and cas to purgatory like bro???? can they catch a break?? and then cas just left dean like huh??? does this mean dean died again???

anyways yea overall pretty banger season, it was good fun 7/10

I don't know?? I don't write angsty endings. I'm a happy ending or hopeful ending kinda gal.

lol pretty much all of them. It's the only kind of ending I write.

8, Do you get hate on fics?

I have in the past. But if it's a comment, I usually immediately delete it because I don't need that in my life. I haven't really gotten either other kind of hate for the fic's I write. Or if I have, I honestly just don't remember it. It's not something I try to dwell on anymore.

9, Do you write smut? What kind?

I have! Though not in a while lol but hoping this year I get back into the swing of it.

10, Do you write cross-overs?

Not really. Generally I'll write an AU and mash up the ship I'm writing(or making a board) for into the universe that sparked the idea.

11, Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not to my knowledge!

12, Have you ever had a fic translated?

I have! It was an absolute delight to get asked to do so!

13, Have you ever cowritten a fic before?

I have not! I've talked about it in the past with old friends but nothing ever came of it.

14, What's your all time favourite ship?

This is literally the hardest question ever lmao like, honestly once I decide a ship is "the ship" for the fandom I've fallen into, I love it forever. so like, my fave ship is a constantly routing list lol but currently right now it's: obikin, stony, coldflash, hangster, sterek, superbat.

When a ship sinks it's claws into like these have, they never really go away and the love for it never truly dies.

15, What's your WIP you like to finish, but doubt you ever will?

Ideally all of them! lol but truly, I'd really love to finish the ones I've already posted on Ao3, because they haunt me and I want to be rid of those ghosts.

16, What are your writing strength?

I don't know? Like, there are things about my writing I love but I don't know what I would consider my strength. Maybe dialogue? Making you feel emotions? How do people answer this!!

17, What are your writing weaknesses?

All of them??? lol I really don't know. I don't tend to write long fic's any more, like, my longest put on Ao3 is like around 16k and everything else is below that. So I genuinely don't know what I'm strongest at or weakest at because what I usually do is get a little blurb of a scene in my head, write it out and post it. Like it amazes me how I do any world building, character building, anything building in the 500 to 2k little moments I do write and post. (Though this year I am hoping to bang out a few long fic's, so maybe I'll find out what I'm strong at and what I'm weak at then!)

18, Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

If I do, I do it in like italics or bold, something like that because I can no longer trust translator sites I find (if someone has a reputable one they can share?!!!?!!!?! let me know!!) but I got politely corrected a few too many times and realized since I don't speak another language, I cannot trust what I find.

So for me, I found it to just be like, 'he says this in his native tongue', because that way I'm not butchering something that means a lot to a group of people and nor am I making be guess what I'm trying to say. It's just a personal preference for myself!!!

Posted for Ao3 was The Flash, for fanfic.net I think it was for NCIS??? before that I don't know???? Babygirl (gender neutral) THAT WAS MORE THAN 20 YEARS AGO for me!!! I have trouble remember last month lol

20, Favourite fic you've ever written?

Think Before You Act, Except Just This Once (Stony, MCU). It's just so short and funny and I loved writing it.

I have been struck by the writing bug for Dead Boy Detectives and am in the process of working on some Edwin-centric drabbles - anyone interested in being a beta reader?
