Another year has passed, and with it the opportunity to reflect back on all that has happened. While my growth was not as dramatic as last year, I can still see lots of positive change.

Lots of LWJ's early in the year#then a dead period in the middle. He is forever my silly rabbit. I love drawing him!#If I have to put a label on this year; I'd describe it as 'experimental'. I pushed myself to do llots of new things!#I drew lots for dungeon meshi and that really boosted my growth. More body types -clothing details - expressions!#Ryoko Kui is a great artist to learn from and It made me realize that I had a lot to gain from doing more studies.#I also started working on a whole new genre of art! While it has taken a backburner spot - I'm working on a game now!#Digital art was my enemy last year but I have been getting a feel for it now.#Goals for this year is to 1) keep working on my personal projects 2) finish PD-MDZS! and 3) practice animation!#I didn't (couldn't) draw as much as I did last year...but I had to take a lesson in humility and taking care of myself.#Drawing is something I do 'for fun' but there were many times it became more stressful than it should.#I'm still learning how to find and maintain balance with everything life throws at me.#We are all works of progress and I am trying very hard to love the process and the journey! be kind to yourself when you slip up. we're all human, and occasional bouts of procrastination are normal. instead of dwelling on past procrastination, focus on what you can do right now to move forward.
8. find accountability
share your goals with a friend, family member, or coworker who can help keep you accountable. having someone to check in with can provide an extra boost of motivation.
9. reward yourself

Something that schools don't teach you but is much needed: how to have a work/life balance that works for you.
As someone who works fulltime and does classes and attempts a social life and hobbies, this gets very hard and stressful. But here are some tips I have for helping:
Learn to say no and not feel guilty. Picking up that extra shift when you had plans? Politely decline. Your friend is begging you to take ANOTHER class when your plate is full so you can have one together? Just be honest and say you can't.
Prioritize your sleep and eating. You can't function well if you don't sleep and eat enough. These are not things you can just push aside and do when you get the time. These are basic things you need to survive. These are literally basic needs. Don't throw them to the side. Your body does its best to take care of you. Make sure you take care of it too.
Have boundaries and be firm with them. If you tell your manager you can only work x, y, and z, don't let them add a or b to it. Respectfully but firmly let them know that you can't take on those things and if they have you do a or b, your work overall is going to majorly decrease in quality. Schedule time for yourself. For studying. For going out. And treat those set aside times just like you would if they were work or school times or appointments. You are the most important part of your life.
Understand that some weeks are going to be absolute hell. You're not going to have enough time. You're going to be exhausted and cry and throw things and want to quit everything. You got this babe. Take breaks and remind yourself how amazing you are and treat yourself after.
Prioritize things and adopt better habits. Wash your dishes right after using them. Get a set bedtime. Get easy breakfast things. Take a walk.
Your friends will understand if you just need time alone. I promise. They love you and don't hate you because you're overwhelmed. I PROMISE. And if they don't, maybe they aren't really your friends.
Not everyone is a friend. Some people are acquaintances. Some people are a 5 minute smoke break at work for your sanity. Some people are drinking buddies. Some people are library study date friends. And that's ok! Not everyone has to be your bestie. And trying to put that much energy into that many people will drain you.

Now see this could be tricky, because generally if I don't get some key elements written down very quickly the idea flows away again and the 'yet' disappears, even if I remember generally what it was about, but I have one this time! I am still just enough plagued by this vision that it's not out of the question I'll go for the capture, but so far nada.
Idea was basically a Jiang family character study by way of modern au. (So tw canonical abuse.) I started from the reflection, in a modern au very high chance the Jiangs are divorced, because being a divorcee wouldn't necessarily ruin Yu Ziyuan in the modern world, as long as she was allowed to control the narrative enough that she didn’t look at fault, so it might be on the table.
Especially because modern views on child abuse are such that while she'd hold back more than she already does in terms of physical chastisement, Jiang Fengmian would also be under less societal pressure to not interfere in her disciplinary system too much, and both these factors mean he’s more likely to put his foot down.
So, concept: Jiang Fengmian, when his son is eight and his daughter thirteen, forces the issue of taking in his best friends' abused orphan child whom he’s just managed to track down in a nightmarish group home, probably leveraging the fact that wherever their money comes from it's mostly his, something he usually doesn't do, but she has always known he could, and been fucked up about it (reasonable) and hated him a little (less so) and hates him so much more now (understandable but still fucked up).
They were obviously still both pressured into this marriage by their families, because I literally cannot imagine them choosing one another of their own free will, and if they did that would be an au in an even more dramatic way than being modern, and no longer work as a character or relationship study as far as I'm concerned. I mean or it’s a cql-based au, but that’s not the version of this toxic marriage I find compelling.
Situation subsequently deteriorates to the point that when the boys are around twelve some outside party observes and is repulsed or otherwise upset by Yu Ziyuan's treatment of Wei Wuxian specifically--she's emotionally abusive to everyone in the family, canonically, and it harms Jiang Cheng significantly more than Wei Wuxian, which I think is also pretty explicit on the page, but she's more openly antagonistic about going after wwx because he's basically a proxy for her husband, whom she doesn't consider to be someone she's capable of harming.
And ofc in a modern family scenario, being abusive to your foster kid is more plainly personal misconduct than being unfair in how you discipline one of your husband's many students, even if it is his favorite. Which means she's very unlikely to chase him around with a whip, but whatever she does do will sting that much more emotionally.
Anyway the outside judgement provokes a more explicit confrontation than the last four years of maneuver and attempting to balance all the competing needs according to two very different standards. And the upshot is that by the time wwx is 13, the Jiangs are divorced. To avoid making a humiliating spectacle of themselves they present a weirdly united front in court and have a very smooth uncontested proceding, although the closed meetings with their respective lawyers involved a lot of vitriol.
Yu Ziyuan, despite having a smallish trust fund and probably a job of some kind, though one that's more prestigious than profitable like uh. Olympic fencing coach. Idk what they make but it's probably not enormous. She and Cangse Sanren probably competed in the same events back in the day.
Anyway she gets a solid chunk of alimony, the house, and primary custody of both her children, although Jiang Yanli is almost 18 at this point so mostly she just gets Jiang Cheng. Everyone thinks Jiang Cheng wants it that way, including sort of Jiang Cheng; he has this idea that if he has his mom to himself they'll finally have a good relationship, even though he's also terrified of being left all alone with her. He's complicated. Families are complicated.
Also she would never have forgiven him if he hadn't concurred that he wanted to stay with his mother because she was the only one On His Side.
Jiang Yanli ofc does not move out right away when she comes of age, in part because her brother needs her, but she probably does go to college, so she's only around part-time.
Jiang Fengmian, meanwhile, keeps most of his financial assets and Wei Wuxian, and gets his kids on the weekends.
So that's all setup for how you have this situation where Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng are entering high school--probably the same school, together, but no longer sharing the commute except maybe Monday mornings--and Wei Wuxian's primary residence is Jiang Cheng's dad's apartment.
It’s really chill. They get a cleaning service in once a week and eat a lot of delivery food, but they do cook at least once a week. The canonical thing where they largely agree about what’s funny and what’s right-or-wrong, and so forth, on the one hand really pops when there’s mostly no external conflict disrupting it, but also probably gains more complexity now that it’s not a thread of positivity fighting for its life against a background of drama. They get to know each other better than they ever had a chance to in canon.
Some of that isn't all that positive, because now they have the space to discover the places where they do actually have the capacity for friction, but both of them are very good at dispersing tension (I do tend to suspect jfm's dad was abusive he sure acts like it), and on the whole it's a good thing.
Jiang Cheng is going to have such a mental health crisis, and Jiang Fengmian is going to handle it so badly. Because of course when his son starts replicating his ex-wife's toxic attitudes and behaviors more now that she has primary custody, he’s going to feel guilty and like it’s His Fault, but he’s going to feel like it’s his fault that Jiang Cheng is growing up to be a shitty abusive person.
And even if he’d never say that the subtext would come through, in the assumptions he made when framing communications and so forth, as in canon, so the thing where Jiang Cheng’s father loves Wei Wuxian more than him, or at any rate likes him better and thinks he’s a better person and prefers his company, would wind up feeding into a self-reinforcing loop.
(Jin Zixuan's nasty public remark about Jiang Fengmian treating Wei Wuxian better than his own children hits Jiang Cheng significantly harder in this scenario, where he's being Tormented by the feeling that all his peers know his dad walked out on him for another son. Wei Wuxian's punch is therefore even more clearly primarily for Jiang Cheng's sake, although Jiang Cheng is probably more inclined to see it as being for his dad's. Jin Zixuan is about halfway between the Jiang kids' ages here, so he's a senior saying this shit to a sophomore.)
So that cycle builds to the point where Jiang Cheng would eventually have one of those rare moments where he resorts to actual violence, because his poisoned feelings are choking him so bad his rationality deserts him.
He’s not going to be nearly as close to actually murdering Wei Wuxian as he was in canon the night the Jiang Sect was massacred, because it’s a less extreme situation, but he still goes for the neck. So Jiang Fengmian is in his home office one Saturday about a year and a half into this new normal, and realizes the boys are fighting. He hears through the wall the accusation you stole my dad. He says to himself, well that’s terrible but interjecting myself into this situation would definitely make it worse.
Then he hears sounds of violence, and then an ominous abrupt silence, and updates that analysis.
And when he opens the door to the boys’ room, Wei Wuxian is being strangled. He’s not really resisting, which is because he’s made the call that that’s way more likely to get Jiang Cheng to snap out of it, and thinks it might make Jiang Cheng feel better to get it out of his system (because he does sort of feel like what Jiang Cheng is going through is all his fault, or at any rate is much worse as a result of decisions made for his sake) and is severely underestimating the dangers of choking, but looks to a third party like he’s already passed out and Jiang Cheng is still at it. Which is to say, it looks like a serious murder attempt on the brink of success.
So that sure made that situation worse!
So yeah that's my idea that I probably won't write but it sure has its teeth in me.

Hi, I'm actually new to #studyblr and saw one of your post. I'm curious about what amount of hours that you can usually have yourself to sit and study focusly? I saw a lot of YouTube videos that has people in 10+ hours study session and I've been questioning myself because I can't really stay focused for that long. I only manage to focus 1-2 hours so far and it makes me feel like I'm dumb and unproductive.
So can you tell me more about your story and maybe unpopular opinion/tips that you have regarding about the concept of productivity in studying?

Hello dear and welcome to the studyblr side of our beloved hellsite! I would like to start by saying that it's totally okay to ask, and I am actually very VERY happy you have reached out about this.
Firstly everyone studies differently and everyone can pull different study sessions depending on many many things, so do not comprare yourself to others. Imo 10+ hour sessions sound like something out of a fantasy novel. I could never. I will go about this in no particular krder so sorry in advance if i am a bit confusing (and if i am too confusing do feel free to send me another ask and I'll try to be better).
Your ability to focus can depend on a lot of things, how you and your brain work, lots of neurodivergent folks like me have to work around that as well, what you are working on can impact on how well you focus and how many energies you burn while doing so, and let's be honest sometimes you have other things in your life that can drain your energies and then you have an harder time staying focused. This is all fine. You are not dumb, you are not wasting time, and you are not a failure if you take a longer time to do something or need more breaks.
Another thing I want to get out of the way right away because it is fundamental, is that your mental and physical health should always be an higher priority than school work. You need to pay attention to that. To how you talk to yourself, to how you treat yourself. If you are in a bad mental place you cannot work well, and nothing is more important than you being well. So do take the breaks and the days off, and not just when you are at your limit. You need to find a balance between studying and rest. There is no guilt in rest. You are fueling yourself to then be able to accomplish what you have to do. Okay? I am being very serious about this and I really really need you to keep it in mind always. No guilt in rest. It is not something you you need to earn either. It's something you need and deserve at all times.
Now to get more into your questions. I personally take A LOT of breaks when studying. I need to walk around a bit, I need to snack, I need to make tea (i drink a lot of tea lol). And breaks are great. There are different ways you can approach them and it depends a lot on how your brain works and how you work. If you are not sure i would suggest trying different things and see what works for you! It's super important to know your study method, how you work best, and how your brain works. You could try the pomodoro technique first, or just figure it out depending on your needs or what you are working on (for example taking a break at the end of chapters).
I am a creature of habit so my typical study day at home looks pretty much the same (tho it can vary depending on lots of things, includong the materials I work on). I am an early bird so most of my study happens in the morning. I like to wake up very early around 6.20 because there is nothing I love more than to have the time for a slow morning in which i drink my tea and read my book as I have breakfast (this is one of those very personal things that works for me but i am sure would be hell for many people. Do make sure you get enough sleep!!!). I tend to be at my desk by 8/8.15. In the morning depending on what ai have to work on I have one or two breaks. If i only take one break it's a bit longer and i stop studying earlier. If i take two breaks they are usually around 9.30 and one around 10.30. If i only take one it's around 10 but it's longer and as i said i stop studying earlier. I then have a very long lunch break from either 11.30 or 12 until 15 usually and then I usually study till 17. If I need to work more i do take at least one break in the afternoon as well. This is a typical day in which i focus only on study, if you have classes, work,life things it would be irrealistic. Even if you go somewhere outside your house to study that would be irrealistic. So you need to focus on what can work for you. Again sperimenting different things is the way to go!
Idk if there count as unpopular opinions on productivity but I'll list some of my opinions on the matter and you can decide for yourself:
Your productivity does not determine your value nor your success.
Pulling all nighters and working for 10 hours straight is unhealthy. You need rest. You need moments in which you focus on other things. Schedule time for your hobbies. Meet with friends. Eat foods that fuel your body and soul, it's a source of joy. Create an healthy schedule. It is fundamental. You should never ever deny your needs for studying, it's not worth it.
It's better to take one or two weeks more to finish something than to pull an all nighter or other unhealthy things i mentioned above.
There is no shame in taking your time to do things and there is no shame in taking your time to figure out what works for you study wise. When i started uni i took well over a year to figure out how i needed to study and it started working well after like two years and it's okay. Because i had to learn that by myself with trial and error and if i didn't do that i wouldn't be here now with the perfect study method for me personally.
Nothing will come out perfect on the first try. Do not let it discourge you. Have fun learning. Mistakes are good. They mean you tried and they are there to give you direction for the future. Do not let anyone tell youcthey should be a source of shame.
There's probably more stuff i could mention but my brain is fried after a long day so this is a good start. The last thing i want to tell you is an advice on how you could approach ypir new studyblr adventure. It is how I started using it and how I continue to use it, I am not saying it is the way to go but it has worked positively for me so I thought I'd share it. I started this side blog during the pandemic because I felt unmotivated by studying, I felt like I wasn't doing enough and had a lot of guilt about that. I decided to use this little corner of the internet as a journal, but most importantly as a daily reflection on my productivity. What I thought would be a goal to push myself harder ended up being just a place of reflection in which each day I realized how much I accomplished without realizing. Writin my little daily lists of thinga I have done isn't a way to push myself in the morning, it's a way to sit down at the end of the day and reflect on where my energies went that day and more often than not I am surprised at how much I did, when I thought I had a mediocre day. I really recommend taking time to reflect on your productivity this way. And I also encourage everybody to include self care acts in their productivity lists. Taking care of yourself is an act of productivity, so the fact that you took time to cook your favourite meal counta as productivity, taking a break to go for a walk or to listen to some music that gives you joy is productivity, because you are recharing yourself. Imagine yourself like a phone or any other tech object. If you let the battery die it takes so long to recharge completly. If you keep an eye on the battery, your battery, you can do things to recharge you before you shut down. You can't expect to always be at 100% but you should never push yourself below a certain percentage of battery.

just realized i never did a proper intro for this blog!
so, hello, i've been flip flopping between taking lessons and self-studying piano for several years and this blog was (and still is) intended to be a studyblr to track my progress.
i'm currently self-studying as my time is split between this and STEM studies (more on that on my side blog @studentbyday) but i really really hope to finally establish a consistent practice (after struggling to do so for many years 😅) so i know i will be able to handle weekly lessons again 😤
🎓 goals for piano/music studies:
enjoy playing music (including without headphones)
establish sustainable routines so i can practice piano every day or at least every week
get over stage fright and paralyzing perfectionism
improve my sight reading
motivate myself to learn more music theory and use it to analyze my favorite songs
find fellow music enthusiasts on tumblr!
ultimately play piano at an LRCM level 🙈 (as of 2024, i am currently L6-7 in baroque/classical, L8-9 for romantic...yeah, kind of all over the place since I've been treating this very informally over the years and keep taking hiatuses lol)

classical music (my favorite composer is chopin but beethoven is a close second)
jazz (especially the cozy and vintage kinds)
