Buck & Eddie: Grandad, dads, sons and grandson
Buck looks like Bobby and Christopher looks like Buck.
Buck looks like Bobby; they’re almost the same height (Bobby is 6′1 and Buck is 6′2), they have similar facial features and they have a lot of the same mannerisms. One of the only noticeable differences between them is their eye colors because Bobby’s eyes are brown while Buck’s eyes are blue.  Christopher looks like Buck; they have the same eye color (blue) and their hair type and hair color are also the same (curly and blonde/brown).  If someone who didn’t know them saw the three of them together, it would be easy for them to assume that the three of them are biologically related.  Bobby is Buck’s found dad, Bobby recruited Eddie, Buck and Eddie are trusted partners at work and in life, Eddie is Christopher’s biological father, Buck is Christopher’s legal guardian/second dad; therefore when Buck and Eddie finally confess their feelings for one another and eventually get married, Bobby will be Eddie’s found father-in-law and Christopher’s found grandfather.  They’re a family your honor!

i think why buck and chris relationship is so important to me because yes i understand eddie loves chris without conditions, that’s his son. he’s an amazing father. that’s his own flesh and blood. he tries to do right by him. he is doing right. his love for him is enormous, it transcends everything in his life.
chris is his life. there’s no doubt about it. i can definitely understand a parent’s love. how protective he is of christopher. but buck? buck isn’t his flesh and blood, buck has only known this kid when he was seven. and i do not attempt to say that he loves chris just as much as eddie (maybe to eddie he does) (nobody will fight for my son as hard as you) BUT he loves him in his own unconditional way. he’s an amazing person in chris’ life. he tries to do right by him. takes note of everything, listens to every detail and makes it happen for chris. his love for him is enormous, it also transcends things in his life.
he took this kid in and loved him in such a way it seems paternal. it seems familial. it seems like he wants to take him in, take him as his own and he has. he doesn’t seem to have any relationship close to it. and there’s this want that makes me visceral. to want to continue doing this, doing life, doing cupcakes and homework and going to the zoo.
it’s one thing for a step parent to love their step kid, that’s a wonderful thing on its own, but in canon buck and eddie aren’t together. and they only show this type of relationship with them. like!!!

Feelin Good (Could be Better) Chapter One
Hello, I have posted the first chapter of my first ever chapter fic which I am super stoked about!!! This is is already completed so I will be posting chapters completely randomly because I am a chaos demon. (fic is about 24.5k total!)
You can read the first chapter of my fic over on AO3 right here
Summary
The Buckley parents come to town, turning Buck's already shaky mental status from precarious to worse. Despite avoiding a dreaded dinner at all costs, Buck consents to join Maddie, Chimney, and his parents for dinner. Buck is super fine thanks for asking, he'll just bake about it. And think about kissing Eddie, obviously. Secrets are revealed, leaving the 118 reeling.
Snippet
“No, I don’t think I’m cut out to be a parent.” Buck answers instead, truthfully. Hen sends him a strange look. There is an odd, almost hesitant lilt to her tone that Buck can't dissect. “And why not?” Buck shakes his head. “I doubt it's in the cards.” He tries to be flippant so he can play it off as one of his usual perpetually single self-deprecating jokes. Chim frowns, all trace of teasing gone, when he sees how uncharacteristically serious Buck’s own expression is despite the attempt at humor. “And just why do you think you’d be a bad father? You’re great with Chris and Jee.” What Buck doesn’t say is that he could never commit himself to the possibility of becoming either of his parents. Sometimes he still tastes the blood in his mouth from a split lip or a bloody nose. It would never be worth the risk. “Yeah, it sort of surprises me,” Hen admits. “I always figured you would settle down and have a herd of little Buckley’s, even if you just adopted. You always get so wistful when you’re babysitting.” Buck simply shrugs because he fears his voice might crack. This conversation felt a little too vulnerable, especially for a lighthearted trip to the park after a late lunch on their day off. It wasn’t a discussion he was prepared to have right now—especially without delving into the dirty details of his childhood. Eddie, who was apparently listening in from his post by the slide, is staring at him as though he’s trying to put together a complicated puzzle, and the answer is written somewhere in Buck's eyes. He looks shell-shocked and a bit like Buck had open hand slapped him across the face by informing them he never intended to become a father.

Tagged by @rewritetheending and @wildlife4life for wip Wednesday! Another dreadful conversation from me your pal
“I don’t-“ Buck waves a hand, generally. “Bad shit happens to us. Anything- anything could happen. Will you be okay?”
Eddie stares at him for a moment, uncomprehending. Then: “No, Buck. I won’t be okay.”
Buck shuts his eyes. “I- I just want- if I die, you-“
“Buck,” Eddie interrupts, voice probably harsher than he means it to be. “You’re scaring me.”
Closed eyes aren’t enough, Buck covers his face with his palms. “I don’t want to scare you. I don’t want to hurt you. But I can’t stop thinking about it. I need to know you and Chris will be okay.”
It’s just Eddie’s breathing for a while. Eventually his hands come up, warm, over Buck’s own. Eddie gently reveals his face. Buck hasn’t got a good look at himself in so long, he wonders how he might have changed, he wonders if Eddie still thinks he’s handsome. Eddie looks- sort of terrified, very in love, entirely determined. “We’ll survive, Buck. If something happens to you, we’ll survive it.” He takes in a shaky breath, looks at Buck like he wants to drill his words directly into his brain. “But you have to promise me you will do everything in your power to not let that happen.” He kisses Buck like he can’t help but doing so. “You- I’ll survive it but- I don’t want to lose you-“ Eddie’s voice breaks and Buck pulls him in close.
“I promise,” he says, as he kisses him again, nodding against his face. “I promise,” he says again as he tugs and pulls until they’re in their room again, and he means it, he will try his fucking best to stop drowning in ever present dread and work as hard as he can to stay alive. A warning, not a guarantee. “I promise, Eddie,” he whispers into skin, over and over, everywhere he can reach. He thinks about a wedding, he thinks about late summer. It’s not so far away, is it? Maybe- Maybe-

Since we're thinking tsunami and Buck and Chris and parenthood (I saw literally one post about it that put my mind in overdrive) I kinda wanna talk about it, because it's a very obvious thing that they are making Buck a father right then and there. I think it's pretty on the nose with the blunt cut from Maddie and Chim discussing kids and talking about how Buck is the only person they know who doesn't have one besides them to Eddie dropping Chris off and it was made extremely obvious with the coma dream and Buck remembering the tsunami after the "my kids" conversation with his parents. But there's a very clear shift on the way Buck treats Chris before the tsunami in comparison to after, because in the party at bathenas house Chris is giving him a card and Buck clearly has a lot of affection towards him, but you have Eddie hovering behind them and Buck is still very much "this is my friend's kid" with the way he treats Chris and that's exaggerated by the way he's surprised by the fact that Eddie brought Chris to the loft and he is visibly awkward about how to handle Chris being there, the way he's moving, the way he's looking at Eddie, the trying to pass the "babysitting" over to Carla, "what do you like to do for fun". Obviously, there's the level that comes with the way Buck is in a bad mental state but Buck doesn't truly get why Eddie would just hand him Chris and go to work.
When they're at the park, shit is less awkward because Buck's not only benefiting from Chris but from getting out of the house even if he does ends up getting all deep with Chris because he's still very upset. But after the wave hits, it flips a switch. Again, there are a lot of layers there, for starters Chris is a child who cannot survive that situation alone, Buck is a person who cares more about other people than himself, he is responsible for Chris at that moment even if he didn't feels anything particularly fatherly towards him, but the time it takes for Buck to find Chris shifts Buck's world and that's very obvious. Buck has always been awed by Chris but sitting in there truck Buck goes from dad's friend to father and it's obvious on the way he's handling the situation. Keeping Chris distracted, saying they're a good team by saving all the people, the games to keep Chris from seeing the worst of it, Buck's instincts surrounding Chris changed and a parallel that happens in the episode that I think it's a very deep proof of that is the way that Buck gets distracted on the park and doesn't hear Chris calling his name multiple times because he's busy mopping over the rescue that's happening, but when he's helping other people and Chris falls in the water, he reacts instantly to Chris' voice and doesn't hesitate to jump into the water to go after him even though that's the most dangerous thing he could do in that situation because he needs to get to his kid.
They are again very obvious on the way he spends the entirety of the next episode looking for him even though he's in no shape to actually stay on his feet. Something that always breaks me is the way he talks to the lady with the lists and braces himself to look in the morgue so that he knows for sure if Chris isn't there because the way he hesitates to walk over kills me along with the way he calls Maddie because he's not getting help for himself until he knows for sure what happened. Then obviously, there's the way he's shaking head to toe while trying to talk to Eddie but can't say the words out loud and how he's ready to cry even though he kept it together so far because saying it out loud makes it real and he can't handle that. And the way he just drops the second he realizes Chris is safe on Eddie's arms. And there's the way that a major thing about being a parent is the instinct to protect and Buck is sitting in loft looking all sorts of devastated because he thinks he failed to protect Chris and he tries to stop Eddie from leaving Chris with him again because he truly believes Chris needs protection from him so it doesn't matter how much the situation is hurting him, since he believes Chris is better off away from him, he just accepts that he has to live with it. But since Eddie says he trusts Buck with Chris and Chris looks happy to be there with him, he just gives into the way he needs Chris around at that moment.
And it's kind crazy when you add the relationship between Buck and Chris outside of Eddie after that, because, yeah, Eddie relies on Buck for help with Chris, but Chris himself relies on Buck. There's some crazy stuff like the way Chris runs away to Buck because he's mad at Eddie or the way Buck's whole body relax when he sees Chris after the shooting or the way that Chris, a kid who's surrounded by first responders, called Buck not 911 during Eddie's breakdown. Or maybe the way the show cuts from Hen and Karen telling Denny's biological father that "our son our rules" to Buck and Chris chilling in the loft baking cookies for Chris to take to his school while Chris tries to get Buck to let him have cookies as dinner and Buck just makes the decisions himself. Is it a simple decision about what Chris is having for dinner? Yes. But that makes it so much bigger for me because it's just expected that Buck doesn't have to check every little detail regarding Chris with Eddie before doing something. Chris is Buck's too and the show very much pushes that idea and it all started in the tsunami.

for what it’s worth re canon and ages, the only confirmation of ages we’ve ever got are buck, hen, athena, abby and the kids
buck tells us in s1 he’s 26 and in s4 he’s 29 when he finds out about daniel but that’s messed up now bc in 6x11 they tell the hospital he’s 30 a whole 2 and a half years later after 4x04/4x05 lol
hen tells us in s4 she joined med school at 40
athena makes a comment about getting into a relationship again at 50 in either s1 or 2
abby tells us in s1 she’s 40
we know chris is 7 in s2 and may, harry and denny can all be worked out too by grades or mentions of ages throughout the show
maddie can also be figured out bc we find out in s4 she’s 9 years older than buck which would’ve made her 38 at the time
i’m currently up to s4 in my rewatch and can’t recall any mention of bobby or chimney’s ages but if there’s one thing I know for certain: we have never, ever been given an indication of eddie’s age. And actually the idea of him only being 19 or 20 when chris is born and when he goes off to war makes that whole story even more tragic than I ever could’ve thought possible quite frankly 😭😭😭

Buck & Eddie: Chris’ conversations with his two dads
Christopher has conversations with Eddie and Buck all the time and some of the things he said to them were parallels.  He’s encouraged, consoled and even joked with them. They’re a family and they are always there for each other.
1. GIF 5x6 “Brawl in Cell Block 9-1-1″ When Eddie made it home after the hostage situation was over, he went to check on Chris.  Chris woke up and said, “You’re weird dad” after Eddie told him that he was glad he was his kid.
2. GIF 6x1 “Let the Games Begin” Chris told Buck “It’s weird” when Buck asked him what him not having a couch had to do with him being fire captain.
3. GIF 3x2 “Sink or Swim” Chris told Buck right before the Tsunami hit, “You’re going to be ok kid” since Buck was sad about not being able to go back to work.
4. GIF 5x18 “Starting Over” Chris told Eddie, “Remember, talking about it makes it less scary” after Eddie reminded him that he had an appointment later that day which meant Carla would pick him up from school.
5. GIF 3x12 “Fools” When Eddie asked Chris if he knew what he couldn’t do, Chris said, “Cook” and they both laughed.
6. GIF 5x11 “Outside Looking In” After Eddie said, “All this time everybody thought I was a bad cook.” Christopher said, “You were”.
7. GIF 4x14 “Survivors” Chris consoled and comforted Buck when he said, “It’s going to be ok Buck” after Eddie had been shot.
8. GIF 5x14 “Dumb Luck” Chris noticed how quiet Eddie was being while he was preparing their dinner and after Chris asked him if he was ok, he then said, “You seem sad”.
9. GIF 5x11 “Outside Looking In” Chris asked Eddie why he quit firefighting and after he responded, “I thought you wanted me to quit”, Chris said, “I never said that”.
10. GIF 4x8 “Breaking Point” After Buck ended his call with Eddie, he said, “So I heard about you blowing up at your dad” but Christopher responded, “I don’t want to talk about it”.
11. GIF 3x10 “Christmas Spirit” Chris asked Buck if he could spend Christmas with him but when Buck had to tell him that he had to work like Eddie did, Christopher then said, “Stupid work”.
12. GIF 5x14 “Dumb Luck” Christopher asked the Equine Therapy tour guide when he could ride one of the horses and she explained to him there were a lot of things they would do first so the horses would learn to trust him, Christopher said, “That sounds like work”.
13. GIF 4x3 “Future Tense” Christopher asked Buck if they could go to his house and play video games but after Buck saw the look on Eddie’s face, he responded they would have to play it old school for a while and Chris asked him, “What’s old school?”
14. GIF 6x4 “Animal Instincts” Chris told Eddie that he bought the wrong brand of mayo and Eddie told him it was on sale.  Chris then said, “You know dad, sometimes you get what you pay for”.
15. GIF 3x1 “Kids Today” During Buck’s welcome back to the 118 party, Christopher gave him a card that he made for him and when Buck said, “Wow this is great” Chris responded, “It’s you and me”.
16. GIF 6x5 “Home Invasion” After Hoover the dog made a mess in the kitchen, Chris called for Eddie and after Eddie said, “I thought Hen was exaggerating” Chris said, “I don’t think he likes being alone. Maybe he has separation anxiety”.

If it really is an earthquake in the finale, then I’m even more confident in some kind of confirmation in whatever form for Buddie by the end of the season. Like what better way to get them to realise how much they truly feel for and love each other than the same event that kick started this beautiful relationship.
Full circle.

the way margret immediately assumed that the ultrasound on bucks phone was maddies makes me really annoyed?
like idk how to explain it but first of all, if it was maddies, what makes her think this is how it would be announced? and what gives her the right to look over bucks shoulder like that assume? second, why couldn't it be bucks? why is the first thing that comes to her mind when she sees an ultrasound of a baby on her sons phone, is that it's her daughters ?? why couldn't it be bucks?
i'm glad buck realised that he wasn't going to be a father, that hes just a donor. i believe wholeheartedly that eddie had to knock some sense into him
