Censorship isn't protecting children. It's at best a lazy and lackluster solution.
Children need supervision.
They need an adult checking in with the kid to make sure everything is ok and they are being safe. They need someone that knows them and cares about their wellbeing that can make individual judgment calls on what the kid can handle. There needs to be designated children's spaces that are watched to make sure no abuse happens (and no, the entire world/internet can't be that space.)
If a child is turned loose on the internet, they can get hurt. Same as a child turned loose in a shopping mall might find the sex shop and see something they shouldn't. You don't demand the sex shop keep their doors locked or the mall remove the store.
You supervise your child! There is no substitution for it. Kids need parents, not book burnings!
The idea that censorship is to protect kids is at best the laziest solution possible to the problem, and at worst an emotional hot button designed to trick you into allowing authoritarianism.
The reason that child is viewing age inappropriate material is because their parents are giving them unfiltered access to it and refusing to do any wellness checks or have any discussions about being safe and responsible with the privilege. Scrubbing the internet clean is not going to fix the problem, but it will give certain authority figures untold power.

thinking abt (1) that post abt how most censorship is preemptive self-censorship¹ (2) bras²
⸻ ¹ wow, tumblr search actually worked for once??? ² i do understand and respect that for many people bras serve an actual structural function wrt support/comfort! however, for many other people (hi!) they do not, at least in everyday non-sports contexts, and that's the set of concerns i'm speaking to here.
#i mean for me personally it's also like. sometimes/often/always i don't want to have visible tits‚ for Gender Reasons#so rendering them more compressed & visually ignorable is a move in the right direction#but that's sort of seasonal (which sounds insane‚ but‚ idk‚ in the summer the visible body hair helps balance out the visible tits???)#so it's like. objectively very obvious that i ought to go braless more in the summer#when it would bother me less visually and dramatically increase my comfort levels#and i do‚ in the house! but like. when i go out i still feel the need to render myself Presentable and i'm mad about it#bc like. yeah it's partially a trans desire to hide my chest but like. is that actually separable from the way women are socialized#to manage their breasts to HOA-approved standard or else open themselves up to a whole gamut of inappropriate treatment. (no.)#and so it's really just like. reimposing many different shades of cisheteropatriarchy on myself simultaneously#but unfortunately the only way out is to just. accept all the bad reactions i'm living in fear of. but those DO feel bad!#as always it's like. hard when yr self-protective conditioning isn't serving you wrt being a free person#but IS a rational reaction to the hobbled reality of yr actual existence…#like. easy to say 'just ignore those worries.' and maybe i will‚ at least in the context of like. casual public appearances#but like. even if the material consequences are unlikely‚ for me‚ to be more than unpleasantly judgmental stares—#that's still a real emotional consequence that has an impact on my well-being! but so does the self-censorship.#anyway. too many tags & no novel insight. just like. sux lol#(also usually on here i omit any discussion of Tit Management Issues bc it's my space where i get to pretend not to have a body)#(but like. that's self-censorship of a kind too.)#embodiment (is violence)

I just have to say, I don’t like the internet’s recent obsession with labeling everyone, but right now it’s the proship vs anti. I don’t know which side I fall on but I don’t know how to say that without getting someone mad at me. I don’t like to see proship content and I have filters on so that I don’t see it, but I also understand that it has the right to exist and that policing what people post on the internet is stupid and gatekeepy. And I also know that saying that publicly could lead to me getting doxxed or some shit like that.
I guess the main reason why I’m venting about this now is because an anon just asked whether I was proship or anti because apparently I had reblogged a post that says “proshippers dni”, even though I have no idea when I did that and can’t find the post because tumblr’s search bar is shit. I know that this anon, whoever it is, is a proshipper, but I also know that some of my mutuals are antis, and whichever label I put on myself will probably end up losing me at least one mutual and I just don’t know what to do. Is saying that I don’t care about the labels a valid option in this situation? I don’t know what to do.
I’m sorry for venting in your inbox, I just had to get this off my chest. You don’t have to respond if you don’t want to.
--
Oh for fuck sake.
First of all, stop spreading the nonsense that antis promote, which is that "proship" means "problematic ship" and/or is a label for dark content.
The term originates as "I'm not an anti" and refers to the overall stance that dark stuff has a right to exist whether or not you personally like it.
In other words, your stance.
Second, man up and say what you think. If people are dickheads about it, block them and tell them how inappropriate bullying is. The fact that most people go "Oooh, I don't know where I staaaand" is exactly why bullies are allowed to run rampant through our communities.
Do you think I don't get threats by leaving anon on to make my inbox safe for you? Of course I do! But I get far fewer than I would if I acted spineless.
If you have mutuals who are truly antis, it's time they learned that they'll lose nice and reasonable friends by being harassing assholes who believe fairy tales about video games causing violence or the sexy equivalent.
--
Say "I think these terms are both dumb. I believe dark fiction has a right to exist, but I don't want to see it. If you think it's okay to harass real people to "protect" fictional characters, you are a terrible person. I don't need a label to say I'm anti-censorship and anti-bullying."
If anyone wants to cry about that, they suck and you should remove them from your life.

The reason my art isn't particularly horny is purely because I'm apparently some sort of asexual. I'm drawing a comic set in ancient Rome with historically accurate non-sugarcoated depictions of violence, but no particular amounts of horny because I simply have no interest in it. There was a whole scene that was supposed to have nearly nude dancing girls on the background but I literally forgot to include them. Failing to make horny art isn't me engaging in self-censorship of art, I simply do not go out of my way to make art that doesn't interest me in order to cater to anyone else.
Nothing prevents me from making horny art save for my lack of desire to do so. You have no idea how batshit my art would be otherwise. Maybe this barrier is there to protect you.

Tumblr media
I've described myself in the past as "overly-queerbaited" as a way of explaining why it took me so long to come around to Byler endgame as a legitimate possibility... but that's kind of a misleading way of putting it.
Truth is, I've always been too much of a cynical fuck to fall for queerbait... or any other story that promises positive queer rep.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Sherlock couldn't touch me; I saw this cringe homophobia coming from a mile away. Fans mistaking straight anxiety jokes for meaningful gay subtext was clearly doomed to end in mockery. Nobody deserved to be treated like that... but god, it was easy to predict.]
I think it's a symptom of having grown up under Section 28 -- feeling like I'm being unreasonable for wanting to see queerness normalized is such an ingrained habit that even today I instinctively recoil like a vampire touching sunlight whenever an optimistic queer story falls unrequested into my lap.
But I'm hardly alone in feeling this way -- many queer Millennial and Gen-X fans of Stranger Things are against the idea of Byler because it would ruin the catharsis of watching the gay boy growing up in the same era as we did slowly succumb to the same despair that we did.
Tumblr media
[For those who haven't played the VR game: Vecna is speaking in this screenshot.]
There's genuine comfort to be found in painful stories -- this type of catharsis is practically the cornerstone of horror as a genre -- so I can't really fault myself or anyone else for wanting it, despite the obnoxious oversaturation of disappointing queer endings in media.
This is the nostalgia show, after all -- and like it or not, for many middle-aged queers in the target audience, nostalgia is shot through with the pain of homophobia and loneliness.
But do you know who else is a hurt queer(-coded) adult who resents happy endings? This cynical fuck:
Tumblr media
Henry personifies despair and loneliness and the dark urge to take our pain out on others -- and when Will is in the picture, I would argue that he also represents internalized homophobia.
Will might represent who we were -- but Henry represents who we've let ourselves turn into.
And I don't think many of us want to admit to that, because that would involve questioning why we have so much in common with the literal villain of the show; why we're still so consumed with self-pity after 20+ years that we're obsessing over the fate of some kid.
Tumblr media
I'm not suggesting that wanting a less-than-fairytale ending for a fictional gay boy is equivalent to being a child killer lol. It's perfectly valid to want to see your pain acknowledged, and stories which appeal to that desire deserve to exist.
But between Henry's connection to Will and the cycle of abuse themes of the show, it's clear that this particular story simply isn't about wallowing in the bleakness of growing up gay in the 80s, but about self-actualizing in spite of it all.
So I just can't bring myself to want a "relatable" ending for Will.
As much as I struggle to enjoy positive queer rep, I don't want to be so cynical. I'd thrown up so many walls to protect myself as a teenager that I forgot how desperately I wanted to see just one of those painful queer stories end on the same uplifting note that straight stories were always entitled to: with true love overcoming the odds, saving the day, and living happily ever after.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[But I'm A Cheerleader, a surprisingly fun movie about conversion therapy, is proof that stories like this did exist when I was a teen... but finding them in the pre- and early-internet days amidst so much censorship was a tall order.]
What makes Stranger Things different from most queer stories -- and what allowed it to pierce through my defenses and stab me in the gut -- is that it perfectly mimics those bleak, acceptable-to-the-censors stories from my youth -- only this time, the secret uplifting gay plot twist is real.
Tumblr media
Not for the sake of shock value or of grabbing some empty woke points at the last second, but because the plan all along was to slap the audience in the face for believing homophobic lies about the existence of queer happiness.
That's some gourmet catharsis, if you ask me.
Just the possibility that my inner child might finally be vindicated has allowed me to truly let myself want the things I want for the first time in 20 years -- and that's the first step towards finally crawling back out into the sunlight.
Happy Pride Month, everyone. 🌈

Why is it that dc such as r@pe, sa, and incest is totally okay to write about and romanticize but y’all draw the line at racism, fat phobia, and homophobia *talking about the writings creators make, not personal beliefs*? Whats the difference between these things? All of them are hurtful and affect people in real life, so why is everybody on here choosing and picking one and not the other? Do writers on here think that they are not comparable or that one is okay to romanticize and the other is going way too far?
Im just genuinely curious as I have seen this topic be brought up again and again, which has made me realize this and Id like to see it from someone else's pov.
hi! there is a lot to answer and unpack here and i have every intention of doing so underneath the cut. forgive me if this gets long, but you’ve asked me 4 very massive questions that i think warrant detail, nuance, and thought. there is a lot i’d like to say here.
that being said, mind the content warnings and protect yourself.
cw: mentions of rape, incest, racism, homophobia, fat phobia, discourse in general
firstly, i am going to choose to give you the benefit of the doubt in assuming you are actually curious in hearing another side and you are not simply looking to stir a pot or pick a fight with beliefs you have no intention of changing or having an open discussion on. your accusatory tone in the first half indicates otherwise and kindly, i am not an idiot. but i want to earnestly talk to you about this and again, will think better of you than you perhaps have indicated you think of me.
secondly, you do not have to censor words like rape in my inbox. that sort of censorship has become wildly popular because of tik tok and other money-hungry social media that also desperately want to silence people. do you know why you have to censor words like that on tik tok? or words like genocide? suicide? racism? 1. so that they can make money and market and push their squeaky clean algorithms but 2. and perhaps worse, so they can silence victims. if social media platforms and capitalism and the systems of powers had it their way, you would never utter these words again—whether to call someone out for justice or to have an open discussion like this one. i encourage you greatly to think critically about this and how you choose to use censorship and why.
now, to your questions.
to preface, i am interpreting this ask as being anti-dark content in fiction as you state that ALL these subjects harm people in real life. or at least, you are being critical of all dark content in fiction and the way writers engage with them, effectively ‘picking and choosing’ which are deemed acceptable and which aren’t, when they are all hurtful. i apologize if that wasn’t your intention/what you believe, but regardless, i’ll endeavor to answer you.
i personally have drawn no lines about dark content nor spoken about any of these topics specifically really, which indicates to me you have a different narrative and/or are coming from more inflammatory arguments that are always circling fandom lately. in the post i most recently reblogged, i spoke mostly of violence. which, of course, all of those things can be. but i didn’t name one of those topics in particular.
regardless, i don’t believe in the censorship of any dark content in art, but rather advocate strongly for critical analysis on a case-by-case basis. in general, i encourage thinking critically about every aspect of the world around you.
i do not believe that rape, incest, and sa are okay to write about or create art about but racism, homophobia, and fat phobia are not. i believe all of those topics are ones that can, should, and will be explored in the safety of art. all to varying degrees of success, earnestness, impact, and intent. you’re right that these are real things, that can hurt people, and the fictional work about them can have impact on our society that is tangible but the actual art or fiction created is not real. and again, this is all to varying degrees on a case-by-case basis.
art and fiction also historically and massively do discuss these dark content topics and have actively swayed the public’s opinion on matters, whether for better or for worse. throwing away all dark content in art and fiction because it is ‘harmful’ is deeply, deeply dangerous and reductive. a lot of art that engages with dark content actually makes very succinct points about it—i think of vladimir nabokov’s lolita or octavia butler’s bloodchild or speak by laurie halse anderson.
this is where we must exorcise critical thinking. some pieces of work will handle dark content poorly—white saviors making art on racism. men making art about a woman’s experiences that (as you are so interested in) romanticize her pain. etc. etc. and some art will handle it’s dark content incredibly and be transformative, perhaps even revolutionary in how we talk, perceive, or acknowledge systems of oppression, violence, and dark content in this world. some dark content in fiction will have damaging beliefs and effects on society, some will not—we must also look at scope for this, at the writer perhaps, the historical moment, their audience etc.
(for example, there is a significant difference in a main stream male writer, writing of a woman’s experience with rape in a published book in a way that makes it sound romanticized, sold to thousands and thousands of general public vs. a woman using fanfic to explore rape, take control of it, or whatever in a fanfic for a small online community where there are warnings on it. indicating she is aware of its potential damage in a way her male counterpart is not…)
but i still believe in dark contents’ existence in art. of course there is differences between all of these topics you brought up, but i don’t think their differences matter in this answer. i believe in their right to be explored in art. i am talking broadly of media/art here, which i think is the more relevant conversation, but i think you are actually more interested in a much smaller scale of people. ie. fandom. ie. mostly marginalized people in small communities online writing and creating dark content.
people will choose and pick which ones they’d like to create art over and which ones they don’t, which ones they read and which ones they don’t. there’s no ‘hard line’ drawn anywhere. and i can’t control it and neither can you. perhaps you think violence is okay to be explored in fanfic, but racism isn’t. someone else will have different preferences. i do not believe in its censorship.
now, let’s move onto your interest in romanticization and what i think you are more pointing to, which is fandom. you are specifically referring to people in fandom who write about rape, incest, etc. and ‘romanticize’ it—ie. they write about it in a way that is a fantasy. it is perhaps supposed to be horny or sexy. so let’s talk about it.
i must remind you that these topics you’ve brought up (rape, incest, sa) being written are fiction and it is (most often) done by someone marginalized who has either experienced this or is in threat of experiencing this under a patriarchy. i assure you, they are aware of its harm. hence the copious warnings in fandom spaces.
if i can be candid, sometimes i think that people forget how systems of oppression work when discussing fandom and whether dark content being created should be allowed or not.
for example, i sometimes think people who are anti-dark content in fandom believe that a woman or afab person writing a fictional fanfic about rape or sexual violence then influences people to go out and rape people or that women actually like it. when the reality, in fandom spaces, is that rape and sexual violence happen frequently under the patriarchy and then these women in fandom write fictional fanfic in response to cope, explore, take control of, etc. etc.
to insinuate that women or afab people (which fandom mostly is) exploring dark content safely in fiction then causes their own oppression and harm or trauma is rather victim-blame-y to me. fandom exploring dark content does not cause these things to happen in our society….these actions (rape, incest, sa) happen in our society or systems of power and fandom reacts to them in their art by exploring it in dark content. do you understand what i’m trying to say?
it’s not a matter of what is ‘okay’ to romanticize and what isn’t. i do not think the romanticization that fandom does with dark content (ie. my kidnapper actually loves me! or this sexual act that i did not consent to…maybe feels good) is not actually romanticizing but coping because of the systems of power that i described above. and this can be coping with anything—shame of sexuality, shame of fantasies, trauma, fear, etc. etc.
as i said in my tags in that post i reblogged and as plato said, dark content in art is a safe place to explore what would otherwise be harmful and dangerous in real life. it is cathartic. potentially even, a purging.
and even if it isn’t all that—maybe it just is trashy fantasy. it is still playing pretend. it is still fiction and in fandom spaces, it is still most likely being created by a marginalized person. and again, even if it isn’t, we don’t get to censor it. we can be critical of it or wary or whatever, but to censor it, is a slippery, slippery slope. do deem some topics as “acceptable” and others as “unacceptable” is dangerous.
just like kids play pretend where they ‘fight’ or ‘kill’ or ‘kidnap’ or ‘shoot’ each other in games of cops and robbers or heroes and villains, they are safely exploring adventure, dark content, fantasy, tragedy, and higher emotions. adults can do the same in fiction and with adult topics like sex.
and at the end of the day, we don’t get to demand the credentials to do so either. we don’t get to censor them or control them and nor should we be allowed to. i cannot stress enough that i encourage you to be critical of censorship or the absolute disgust in dark content and at those (again—often marginalized people) who engage with it in fandom. i believe it is deeply puritanical, conservative, and dangerous.
you don’t have to like dark content or consume it at all and fandom makes it easy not to with all the warnings and tags, but you cannot control others or police them. nor should you want to.
and at the end of the day, i have some questions for you. you don’t have to respond to this, perhaps they’re just things to think about. what is the end goal here? what is the point in harassing, shaming, attacking, criticizing, or interrogating people in fandom spaces who create or support dark content? do you believe that if it is purged from fandom, it will be purged from our society? if you want it purged from society—shouldn’t you start there rather than in the inbox of marginalized writers in fandom? people in fandom did not create rape, incest, and sa nor do they in their exploration of fiction…they are merely reacting to a world that did create it.
i hope at no point i came off as rude to you, as was not my intention. i intended to stand up for myself and respectfully state my opinions and thoughts on this matter. i’m sorry it got long, but also i don’t believe in being brief on such complex matters. i am a writer who engages critically with the world around me and sometimes, things cannot be made into short, snappy answers. sometimes, we must unpack.
genuinely wishing you well.

@lakewillowmerewraith let me tell you something about boundaries.
I run a confession blog for a different fandom. It's mostly a positive environment, but as with most fandoms, there are also ship wars, people who thirst for "negative" characters, and occasionally rotten takes. Since the first day, I knew I had to set boundaries, but I also knew that I couldn't let those boundaries be about me and my personal preferences and dislikes. It wouldn't be fair if I deleted positive confessions about my notp/criticising my ships/depicting nsfw headcanons/shipping a beloved character with a hated character.
Because that was a blog that I made, but I made it for everybody in my fandom to feel welcome, not just those who I believed shipped/held the "correct, pure, unproblematic" ships/opinion, and it isn't fair to police real people because of fictional characters. What confessions I could reject, were those who actively hated on real people. For example: “This female character whom some people see as a transfem allegory canonically had a brief relationship with a black woman, so people who ship her with this white male character who was mean to her and "deadnamed" her are all racist, homophobic, and abuse apologists”. And “All X shippers are racist/misogynist/homohobic/etc etc” and “people who say [perfectly harmless thing] are gross/cringe. touch grass” and “stop being so damn [ableist slur]”. Those are the things I need to protect and shield my followers from, not the thirst confessions about the villain who manipulated and betrayed the female character. I also have an extensive tag system that allows people to avoid things they don't want to see. I get inbox that I don't like every day and still, as long as they aren't harmful to real people, I publish them all because it's not about what I want from my blog, it's about enriching my fandom and giving a voice to everybody. I've fucked up occasionally, but I am proud to say that mostly I have been praised for keeping a welcoming, safe, and positive space.
This is what I mean when I say that @elainarcheronweek's mods that have pushed for the decision to have certain Elain ships banned are partial, biased, and unfit to run an event that's supposed to belong to all Elain fans, not just the mods, not just the ones who they believe ship her with the correct character. It's not Healthy Elain Week, it's just Elain Week. And it's despicable that they can just decide to reject fanworks on which real people spent time and energy and feelings, just because they don't like the pairing or they make them feel icky. Because it's just that, right? You said it yourself. Not "fans feel uncomfortable about tamlain and beronlain", it's "the mods have the right to lead their event how they want to". And I say no, it's not only their event, it's Elain's event, Elain's fans's event, and no, they don't have the right to lead that event how they want to if that means punishing fans and creators because of a personal dislike. As I said, they didn't like the "icky" ships and decided to make it everyone else's problem. They "eliminated" the threat of big bad "toxic" elain ships, but they've done nothing to silence the people who accuse tamlain and beronlain shippers of being abuse apologists even when those works contain Tamlin and/or Beron redemption. This is not letting darkfic have the right to exist, it's purity culture. Denying those works a place on the platform out of a personal preference is quite literally censorship.
"But fans really have been feeling uncomfortable with tamlain and beronlain! What about them?" So use the fucking tag system. Make a post where you explain there will be works thay might trigger people and tell them to block the tamlain and beronlain tags. Ask people to suggest other potential triggers so you can update the list. Include the list of potential triggering tags in the master post. It's that simple and it would have saved the whole fandom a lot of drama and disappointment. It's always so baffling for me to think that grown ass people refuse to curate their own browsing experience or ignore the things that they dislike.

I Beg To Differ.
Tumblr media
Okay, now just because I'm about to embark on an epic rant does NOT mean I think anything bad about you as a person, OP. It's just on this one teensie-weensie most minor of points, I happen to think you're 100% wrong. Just thought I'd clarify that, so no offense intended. Anyway, on with the show...
Nah, they did us SO dirty with Chloe. I hear your above argument a lot, and it WOULD be a fair point… if it wasn't for the fact that there are SO many clear signs this wasn't what was intended from the beginning that it makes your reasoning completely null and void. Chloe's 'arc' was the most blatant case of in-show character assassination I've ever had the displeasure of witnessing, and I'm about to explain why. Read on! (If you want to, that is.... no pressure).
They strung us along for at least three seasons with various hints about her 'traumatic past', her problems with her often absent mother (which Marinette didn't help by encouraging them to bond because 'they're both such awful people'), showed her genuinely apologizing to her victims, protecting Sabrina from akumatization and having times when she treated her as a real friend, sacrificing herself to save the day occasionally, hugging Miss Bustier in a moment of genuine emotion, telling Ladybug how 'useless' she felt in a teary rooftop encounter, saving lives both as a superhero and a civilian (check back if you don't believe me), giving Adrien a moving speech on his phone about how 'she'd always be there for him', sharing a really close bond with her father, telling her butler Jean it was time she started doing things for herself, loving Mr Cuddly, adoring Pollen… I could go on. Not the best person in the world, true.... but a promising start. Green shoots, and all that. Her name literally means that.
S4 simply forgot any of this happened, and literally pushed her burgeoning development off a cliff with Sisyphu's boulder tied to it's big toe. There was NO build-up, NO foreshadowing, NO precedent for Chloe suddenly becoming a one-dimensional total-sociopath irredeemable-monster AT ALL, they simply made her that way on a whim. They had her start acting like a complete psycho for the evilz, made her the most stupid person in the show BY FAR, severed ALL of her few close relationships, wrote AN ENTIRE FLASHBACK EPISODE in incrimate her newfound nastiness even more and 'punished' her by sending her off exiled on a plane in tears with her abusive mother to… what else? Get abused, of course. GREAT MESSAGE TO ALL THE VULNERABLE TEENAGE GIRLS OUT THERE. (I won't even get into how utterly useless and blandly boring her 'replacement' of a plot device Mary S... oops, I mean Zoe is).
And we're supposed to believe the former corrupt mayor Andre, the terrorist Gabriel Agreste and Thomas Astruc (you know him) are the GOOD guys here? Well, I'd like to tell you what I'd like to do to them… but for fear of censorship, I'd better withhold that particular information for now.
The upshot of it is… if Chloe had been bad from the beginning and terrible at the end, I'd have accepted it. Heck, if her so-called damnation arc was even halfway well written and gave us an accurate and compelling look at the moral descent a person who's capable of redemption could take to the light but ultimately chose to stay on the Dark Side, this would've been highly disappointing to me but fine from a storytelling perspective.
But they didn't give us anything like that, did they? It was just… 'pretend the last three seasons never happened, develop amnesia, hit yourself repeatedly on the head with a shovel… we don't care. Just accept this is the NEW Chloe without question despite past evidence, because you won't be getting any answers. Now let's go back to what we're REALLY here for… Marichat, Ladynoire, Adrinette and that other stupid ship name. SWOON!'
Thanks, but no thanks. Did I ever tell you how much I HATE this stupid show? Apologies if I didn't make that clear enough.

All of these bad "protect minors" internet bills (KOSA or as I like to call it "Kill Online Speech Act", Bill S-210, Bill SB976, the EU bill for Chat Control, etc) frustrate me like crazy, but the reason why KOSA annoys me the most, beside the fact it requires government ID upload worldwide to use the web, not just in North America, (something these American pro KOSA politicians like to forget) when people outside of the USA did not consent to it, but also because it is very hypocritical to push Kill Online Speech Act to law this year to "protect kids" when the USA has child marriages still legal in so many states!
Excuse me Marsha Blackburn, Richard Blumenthal, Chuck Schumer, and Rob Wittman, do you (especially Schumer and Blumenthal since these 2 has been pushing for KOSA the most) not realize how weird it looks to push for KOSA in America to "protect kids" when these "marriages" are still around? Getting a 16 year married to someone 4+ years older than them is way worse than most things on the internet. At least they can they can close or turn off their smartphone/computer. Getting out of a "marriage" like that would be super difficult.
Since an Committee mark up (not an actual vote yet) for KOSA is happening this Wednesday (September 18th) please, if you're an American, email or call them calmly (unlike me in this post doing a vent) to vote NO on KOSA and patiently explain why this bill should not happen. Tell them how bad it would look for America if KOSA becomes a thing to "protect kids" when the end of legal child marriages didn't happen and wasn't a priority before any internet bill. Please tell that other danger to kids offline that should be focused before KOSA or any other internet bill. (How can you protect anyone under 18 from the "dangerous internet" and then have them spend less time online when things outside the internet isn't safe either?)
Also if you are American parent, please, please call and tell them you are against KOSA, don't let the title of "Kids Online Safety Act" fool you. It won't do anything to help your kids.
If you aren't an American parent, but you know any, please tell them why KOSA is bad for kids and everyone else so they can also call against it.
Everything you need is below:

Thank you very much.

KOSA is becoming a bigger and bigger threat
if trump get elected, there's an almost 100% chance that KOSA will be passed in 2025.
KOSA is a mass censorship bill that will allow the government to not show certain things online, saying its to 'protect kids'.
the things they want to "protect" kids from include LGBT, reproductive healthcare resources, and resources for marginalized groups. but really they'll just censor whatever they want. including information about whats currently happening in the middle east.
(i do NOT have any solid proof for what I'm about to say, so please, unless you can find hard information about it, don't take it as fact: i think that twitter only letting people see ~500 tweets per day is in a similar vain to KOSA. i heard someone say that the reason this change was made was to leave people uninformed for when the time comes to vote. I've also noticed social media sites getting...stricter? over just the past year and a half or so)
parents will also be given access to their childs search history, which could put the child in danger if they don't live in an accepting household. these children wont be left with any safe online places to go.
not only that, if this bill passes, your data will no longer be encrypted!!
even though this bill is targeting kids, this will effect adults too. if you want to use a social media sight, not posting on it just to use it, you will have to dox yourself by uploading your ID online. for everyone to see.
what can you do to help?
call and email your senators. the combination of both will yield the best results. email your senator multiple times. its very common for them to not pay attention to things like this unless they're being bombarded.
signing petitions, telling friends and family, spreading the word. i will have some linked here on the post, as well as some sources that will go more in depth than i did.
if i got anything wrong or have spread false information, please let me know.
i wish i could have found it again but i couldn't: it was this website where you would type out your own personal experiences on how the internet was important to you, what it helped you with, and your reasons on why KOSA is harmful. i remember it being a google form that i had found.

Why is Haruka Tenou attractive??? The OG anime Butch Lesbian? Who kicks ass? And who's Femme girlfriend kicks ass? The character who was depicted in a mature and loving relationship with another women in an anime in the 1990's??? (I need to be able to send pics, damn Tumblr I just want to thirst without sacrificing my dignity c'mon)
What do you mean, "Why is she attractive" Have you seen her? She's handsome, graceful, cocky, flirty, charming, protective, fashionable, chivalrous, a race car driver, drives a motorcycle has a sword, killing it in those suits, and is a certified panty dropper. She's every 90's/early 2000's lesbian's gay awakening. She's GNC as fuck. She is fiercely protective, scared of dying, and would do anything for her friends.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
She's popular because she's a badass butch lesbian who is sweet and caring, not only saved the world in her universe, but saved so many young lesbians/gnc women by showing them someone they could relate to.
Tumblr media
Usagi is not immune to the sappic awakenings this women causes.
For context, they're responding to this post about Sailor Uranus
Tumblr media
Great work, but for some reason, at least to me, this whole situation gets funnier when you realize a lot of us watched the original '90s English dub, where they tried to censor the lesbian part by saying they were cousins. However, they kept all the flirting scenes, so I just thought they were incestuous lesbians, and I was watching this back in the fourth grade.
But there was a lot of ridiculous censorship of anime in America, at least in the '90s and early 2000s. Probably the worst example was the original 4kids English dub of One Piece. The censorship is so bad and ridiculous. It somehow makes incestuous lesbians seem reasonable

How fitting is it that your first meeting with the brothers could have been described as a knight in shining armor? At any other point it would have been them as the saviors, but when you’re caught off guard, you tend to be left in a pinch.
Which is where four particular brothers found themselves when a duo of jellyfish mutants crashed what should have been a regular, totally normal picnic. They should’ve been in their A-Game, a battle that was supposed to be a walk in the park, until a barrage of electric tentacles whipped them all straight on their ass.
“ C’mon, we save the world and this is the thanks we get! ”
Groaned the brother in blue, rocking on the ground as he held the stinging of his abdomen tightly.
“ Do you believe in white flags? ”
Whimpered the brother in orange as he waved a little white flag with eyes shut tight in pain.
The fishy duo scoffed, going on about some mess about mutants league that was hellbent on blaming these four for their plights as “ humans whose lives were ruined ”, before pulling back what would have been a mean hit seizing their victory!
Emphasis on “ would ”, because just as the exhausted four accepted defeat, a knight appeared on the scene with a battle cry and a swinging bag!
“ AAAAAH!! ”
You yelled in panic, swatting the tendrils away with a wimpy squeak each time contact singed your bag. Your shaking legs and chattering teeth were ignored as the battle came to a standstill, both sides simply gawking as a metaphorical tumbleweed passed by. You sucked in an inhale, gritting your teeth and tightening your grip as you glared down the duo.
“ UH—UM! WELL… Stop! ”
You jabbed your finger in their direction then shooing them away.
“ Oh? ”
One of the villainous brothers cooed, taking a step forward as he recovered from the surprise.
“ You’re meddling in matters you don’t quite get, so do us all a favor and SCRAM! ”
Electricity jolted menacingly as he thrusted a tentacle towards you. You prepared to swing that mighty bag of yours once more before a flash of red apparated before you, blocking the attack altogether. The boys behind you all jumped to their feet, shrugging off their fatigue and assuming positions with a newfound strength.
The largest one, clad in red, turned to flash you a toothy grin and a thanks, but all you could do was stare wide-eyed. There was one sentence hanging on your tongue, slipping out without even a chance of censorship.
“ Marry me. ”
He turned to fight back the villainous jellies, only to trip and faceplants instantly, turning to you with a bewildered, flustered look?!
“ Say what now!? ”
Obviously, as every other encounter ends, the brothers reigned supreme over the mutant jellyfish brothers, but you became a constant in their everyday lives. By the grace of the gods or by misfortune, you would somehow always end up appearing where a villain was. Be it out of breath, as though you seeked danger out, or by surprise as you stepped out of whatever little shop you turned up at, there was something the brothers could always count on, and it was you.
Or well, your little quips.
See, they were almost as bad as Leo’s, if not for the charming execution and your charismatic nature. No matter how bad the scenes got, once everyone pulled through, they could all count on you breaking the silence with a snarky, completely out of breath,
“ That was—hah, haaaah— one, phew, that was a doozy! Why don’t we just get married and out this all behind us? ”
Followed by a little thumbs up as you laid flat on the aftermath debris. Collective groans escaped the team, followed by Leo shouting, “ Donnie! Did you get that one? ” You couldn’t help but laugh, exhaustedly hoisting your aching body up to see the purple projection tallying up just how many times you’d ended a fight with a similar comment.
“ That makes the 57th time you’ve said this, Y/N. Do I hear the wedding bells already? ”
Leo grinned, cross-legged with his head planted against his hand.
“ Oh hush. ”
But, it didn’t end there. No, your behavior peeked its head even in the smallest inconveniences or the most normal of interactions. Each brother had been exposed to your proposals, and they all had different reactions to them.
For Mikey, it’s a given that the first incident was food related. A weary you had stumbled down into the lair, wilting at the kitchen table as you basked in what might have been a perfect reenactment of that scene in Ratatouille. With your head in your arms, laid against the table, you hummed to the menagerie of cardamom and chili powder, of parsley and an aromatic blend of diced onions, carrots, and greens.
It wasn’t long before the brother noticed your company and chuckled, stirring his craft as its smell wafted you into a waltz, dipping you through the heartwarming tastes.
“ Don’t worry, I’ll make you a bowl that’ll get you right on your feet, Y/N. ”
While you had simply groaned in response, your pep had returned just as you got a bite of whatever masterpiece this artist crafted. As it melted on your tongue, enlivening your whole being, you stared starry-eyed at the brother and purred your usual quip.
“ Oh Mikey, why don’t we just get married so I can experience this for the rest of my life! ”
Albeit flustered, Mikey simply shook his head and laughed.
“ That’s probably the best compliment my cookings ever had! Maybe I’ll just hire you as my taste tester? ”
“ Please!! ”
After a while, Mikey would eventually let you lend a hand in the kitchen, too. Soon, your homecooked meals were sought after by friends and family, all taken aback by how you managed to create amazing dishes so suddenly???
Now, for Raph, he hadn’t gotten used to these quips, and sometimes you weren’t actually kidding! I mean, how could you not? He was like those folks in fairytales, always there to protect you, to lend a listening hear and a helping hand! He might’ve been the first to hear your little proposals and affection, but boy he was the farthest from being normal about it. Especially with how starry-eyed you would gaze at him while saying it!
“ Y/N! ”
You perked at your name being called, turning to see yourself as the unlucky target of some sort of machinery’s attack. As it unhinged its metallic jaws, lunging at you to chomp, its body was shattered under the force of a fist, glittering red with invigorating magic.
“ Are you okay? ”
He asked, peering down at your frame with such an air of heroism that you melted into a smile.
“ I love how heroic you are. ”
For a moment, he completely forgot of the other little mousers closing in with clanging jaws. Everything flooded back just as quickly as it left, with his gaze snapping back to the threat as he guarded you.
“ Y/N, ya really gotta stop flustering me like that! Raph doesn’t, doesn’t—he doesn’t know how to, ah—. ”
He shakes his head, stumbling over his words before lunging to strike. You were amazed by his strength, if not for the sudden realization of their multiplying once being struck.
“Ah, Wait, hey—hey, Raph? Raph?! RAPH!! I think they’ve been—they’re, THEY’RE MULTIPLYING LIKE THE SILVERFISH, RAPH STOP HITTING THEM! ”
You squealed, trying to get his attention as you batted a mouser away with your trusty bag! He was heroic, strong, but sometimes a ditz. Not like that made you love him any less!
Now, for Leo it always seemed like he was with it. Sometimes you couldn’t even tell if he was joking! He was quick to pick up your habits.
The first time it happened, you were the one to be dumbfounded. None of the other brothers would allow it, but he let you go on patrols with him. Perhaps he just needed an ear to talk off, or maybe it was because you were a magnet for danger? Whatever the reason, he let you tag along, and you were overjoyed.
Atop a roof’s edge you sat, swinging your legs while gazing across the cityscape with an eye almost as watchful as his.
“ Aahh, the nighttime is so serene, once you tune out the bustling noise. ”
You laid back, eyes closed as you inhaled the lunar air. The rustling beside you indicated he followed suit, laying back. Peeking at him with one eye, you purred a snide remark.
“ Say, shouldn’t you be focusing instead of relaxing? ”
“ Me? Focus? Not when you’re chilling so comfortably beside me. ”
You both have a breathy little chuckle, gazing at the stars and basking in the tranquility of the night. It wasn’t as though every night brought with it threat. In fact, most patrols were spent this same way—relaxing somewhere in each other’s time, wasting away the hours until it was “ throw in the towel ” time. As the city sounds drowned into the background, you gave an exhale and opened your mouth to speak.
“Aaahh, how delightful it would be to stay like this forever. ”
“ Yeah, maybe we should just marry the night together? ”
You could hear the grin in his voice, reaching over to shove him playfully.
“ Pft, copycat! Marrying is my thing. ”
“ Oh really? Then maybe you should marry me, I’m obviously the most wed-able brother. ”
“ Is that a word? ”
You gave a scrutinizing gaze, tinged with a goofy grin as he shrugged and declared “ it is now ! ”
Now, he had even thrown them at you a few times in combat, like say for instance, when he caught you in his arms after a hefty opponent had unceremoniously swatted you away from the battlefield. Even you were caught off guard in the moment, clinging to the turtle’s chest while trying to catch your breath.
“ You know what they call this hold? ”
He adjusted his grip on you, emphasizing the position of you draped in his arms, but you were much too out of it to catch yourself from the spider’s web trap he laid for you.
“ Wh-what? ”
The smirk on his face reeled you in, but not before you could interrupt him with a “ hey, wait! “
“ Bridal style. Ah, are those wedding bells I hear? Hurry, my bride, rush to the ceremony! ”
He laughed, placing you down and shoving you towards an exit, implicitly saying, “ it’s too dangerous, get out of here. “
For the last brother, Donnie, it always seemed like he was going to ban you altogether. The heavy sigh that crawled out of him each time you made a quip was enough to momentarily question whether or not you were getting too ahead of yourself. Were you playing too much? Should you rein it in a little? If it weren’t for the split-second smirks, you would have long since dropped your displays of affection with him.
And, after a while, he started to play along with your charades as Leo did—albeit only in the comfort of their own home.
Initially he held his tongue and ignored your comments, and you had trouble reading him. Was he genuinely annoyed? The brothers would tell you otherwise, say that he thought it was funny in his own way, they’d tell you not to worry, but how could you ignore it when he would roll his eyes? Growl? Seem completely annoyed by your antics?
It wasn’t until he experienced your chivalrous protector nature that he started responding differently to your affection. In the fight against Shredder, they knew they were all on their own against this threat. No one in their right mind would stand up for any of them, not to this demon!
So, when his battleshell was demolished by one swipe of the demon, he prepared himself for the final blow, comically waving a white flag, before a shadow was casted over him and a signature bag was swung like a torch at a monster.
“ GET AWAY, B-BACK UP, LEAVE HIM ALONE!! ”
Your signature scream had brought him back to his senses as he watched your trembling frame try pathetically to swat away the threat. Aside from April, you may have been the only human who would try foolishly to protect any of the brothers from an enemy infinitely stronger than you, and he couldn’t help but respect that.
So, he had taken it upon himself to put a bit more energy into humoring you.
Dramatically leaning into Donnie, hand across your forehead and your other hand reached for the heavens, you mewled playfully.
“ Oh, dearest Donnie, even if the gods were to be against you, I would be your knight! ”
With a giggle, you let him grab your hand, spinning and dipping you.
“ And pray tell, beloved Y/N, how dost thou intend to protect one who hast more power than thou? ”
His brothers groaned from the couch, more than accustomed to the strange dynamic cultivated between you both.
“ Tell, I will, with all my strength I’ll fend off the threats with my trusty sword! ”
You held up your bag with a determined expression. Laughter filled the room before you both joined the couch for movie night.
Well, Donnie sat normally.
You gave a battle cry and leapt onto them. It was an understatement to say you fit comfortably into this family’s puzzle like a long-lost piece.

Hey! Do you have an original or fictional character that you'd really like to see get drawn?
Well, I'm giving out free bust shots in exchange for a couple of simple things.
For context, the Kid's Online Safety Act, or KOSA, is a bill meant to "protect children," by that I mean it will put the internet under heavy surveillance and censorship rules. What would be considered as dangerous for children would be completely determined by the government.
This is the government that has decided that conversations about race, sexuality, gender, and mental health are dangerous for kids. What does this mean, then?
It means that if you are a person of color, queer, or neurodivergent, this bill will do whatever it can to wipe you off the face of the internet.
Not only that, but people sixteen years of age or younger would be placed under HEAVY surveillance, which is an extreme breach of privacy.
If this bill passes, the internet will become operated like a fascist regime that hovers over children and completely censors the existence of anyone that isn't white, cishet, and neurotypical. We CANNOT let this happen.
All I ask of you is this: reblog this post, and DM me with proof that you've either signed all of the following petitions or have emailed your representatives. This costs you nothing except a little bit of your time.
Do this, and, as previously stated, I will draw you a bust shot of your original character or otherwise fictional character of your choice.
Here are some examples of what this art would look like:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This offer ends on Monday at 12 AM EST, the same day the bill goes to Senate to be discussed. All art will be completed and sent to the recipients by Monday evening.

Please share, and donate if you can!!
Tumblr media
$375 is way too low right now to be of any use in stopping KOSA, so the more you share, the better, and it's also great if you're able to also donate (only if you're able to do so without worsening whatever monetary and/or safety situation you're in)!!
This bill affects all of us. Both children and adults of the following: the LGBTQ+ community, Black communities, Latinx communities, Native American communities, Asian communities.
It will affect ex-Jehovah's Witnesses, and younger folks still trapped. Same thing for ex-Catholics and children/teens still trapped in the Catholic Church. Same thing for Mormons.
This bill affects everyone, okay? There is no beating around the bush. It has been stated time and again by literal lawmakers that this bill is a censorship bill. Senator Blackburn, co-author of the KOSA bill, said herself it would be used to "protect children from the transgender."
So please help keep the fight going. Because the more of us contribute, the bigger chance we have of winning.
And don't fall for that "oh, what I do won't matter much, other people will do it" line of thought.
Even if you think other people will help: please help anyway. We are running out of time, and when one person falls into this line of thinking, so does everyone else, and then nothing happens. So if you can, please help anyway, because we need all we can get. It's all hands on deck at this point.
So far, chances of KOSA being enacted is 31% according to the site linked below.
Tumblr media
We need to get it down to zero. 31% is way too big still.
Also, here's a petition you can sign!! If you can't donate, signing will also be a big help (I also recommend signing even if you do donate).
You can also call your senators' offices!!
(Correct call script document in post this time as opposed to comment section, ha!)
The call scripts linked below were originally for Congressional representatives, but now that the bill is in committee consideration by Senate Commerce, you should call your Senators instead and you can use the scripts for them. Also, when calling your Democrat senators, make sure to add that Senator Blackburn explicitly stated in interview that it would be used to "protect children from the transgender." I think it's pretty clear that this is not meant to protect children. It's just going to harm children further, especially trans children.
(Article below with a video of the interview embedded.)
Please help keep the fight going. If we let up for even a second, the bill might get passed and the fucking conservatives will win this round. Yeah, we can still fight after, but it's going to be so much harder with how much damage KOSA is going to do to social media sites and our ability to communicate online.
We need to stop KOSA now, if we want the best chance at protecting our freedom on the Internet.

To everyone wanting censorship on AO3: Wattpad fucked me up more
cw: mentioning a bunch of sentivie topics, not going into details about any of them
I think I can, in some ways, be considered someone who grew up on the internet. Granted, my internet looked different than it does today and I spent most of my time on game sites made specifically for kids, but I also spent a lot of nights on Wattpad.
Sure, I read the normal stuff that a 12 year old would. Horse girl stories and jokes and shitty poetry and a bunch of fanfiction for media I never heard of, just because it was cute.
You know what I also read? BDSM and kink. Rape and kidnapping and stockholm syndrome and incest and romanticized abusive relationships. And you know why? Because none of it was tagged.
Wattpad has censorship. Wattpad deletes stories that don't follow its guidelines and so the people writing them are trying to hide from the system by not tagging properly and not describing their stories accurately.
Sure, AO3 does not have censorship, so we can probably assume it has more of these "problematic" stories, but you know what all of them are? Tagged.
Sure, I've scrolled past some rape stories, and incest and romanticized abuse, but I have never clicked on one thinking it was something it wasn't.
The only time I read something I didn't want to on AO3 was when I forgot to filter its tag out completely and didn't see it in the tags of the fic.
Granted, I wasn't on AO3 when I was 12 years old. But even if I was, you know what AO3 has always had that Wattpad doesn't? Age rating and a disclaimer.
Tumblr media
(To be fair, apparently Wattpad has a Mature rating now, but from what I've heard, it's not exactly reliable.)
All banning and censoring things does is force people to come up with ways to get around it. That will always happen. That is inevitable. And that does nothing to protect the kids.
I know that, because I was one of those kids.
