for @steddie-week prompt 'mutual pining'

🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲
Eddie’s just the guy he gets drugs from. He has to remind himself of that a little too often.
It’s just that he’s been seeing him weekly for nearly a year now with the exception of his family holiday for two weeks over the summer. When you see someone that frequently, even if only for a couple of minutes, you tend to become friends.
Which is an exaggeration of what they actually are, and Steve can recognize that he is almost definitely the only one who feels anything more for Eddie than what a business transaction would call for. Eddie’s never even so much as hinted at wanting to hang out outside of the exchange of goods, but Steve thinks the small smile and nod he gives when Steve waves goodbye to him is flirting.
Or flirting adjacent.
Eddie may not even actually like guys. Steve’s not the best at reading people, and it’s gotten his heart in trouble plenty of times before.
Like when he was pretty sure he was in love with Robin and she awkwardly came out to him in a bar’s bathroom, leaving him feeling a bit dumb, a little heartbroken, and a lot disappointed. Luckily, she was able to give him space for a few days and he realized he just loved being her friend.
It didn’t go so well with Evan or Cooper or Connor. Or Amanda or Heather or Caitlin.
But with Eddie, it felt different.
You won’t know unless you try, ran through Steve’s head on loop as he walked up to the front door of Eddie’s apartment.
Only a few customers got the privilege of knowing where he lived, Steve being one of them.
Months of sad attempts at flirting and awkward giggling led up to this moment.
He knocked on Eddie’s door, smiling to himself when he heard music shut off and a curse as Eddie must’ve stumbled over something.
The door swung open and Eddie was standing there with his guitar slung over his back, hair pulled into a bun.
“Hey, Stevie.”
****
No other customers got to come to his apartment, that was his biggest rule.
A rule he broke the moment Steve had been in a rush and had only been a few blocks from where he lived.
He knew why, and he knew it was stupid, and that he was just hoping for something to happen. He needed Steve to make a move.
But Steve never did. He was kind of awkward, actually, not even close to as charming as his friend Jeff made him believe. Well, the awkwardness was actually a little charming. But Jeff had made it sound like he was some casanova who could get anyone he wanted with one line and a well-placed touch.
He never gave discounts, either, that was his other biggest rule.
But Steve never paid full price, not even the first time.
He’d looked exhausted and sad and, well, pathetic. Eddie felt bad for him and ended up giving him a bit of a buy one get one situation. And then he just…kept doing that.
Steve didn’t know. He didn’t think he knew. He never said anything about paying more elsewhere or anything, so maybe he just never shopped around.
Steve was one of his best customers, and at this point, Eddie needed to just make it clear that he wanted to be more.
That’s why the moment Steve texted him that he was on his way, Eddie had thrown his hair up and grabbed his guitar, trying to look effortless while putting as much effort as ever into how he looked. If this didn’t work, he wasn’t sure anything would.
The knock on the door sent him spiraling. Suddenly he hated every choice he made up until this point. Why had he put his hair up in a bun? It made him look like he just got out of bed. And this shirt had stains on it. Not obvious ones, but he could still see them.
He opened the door to see Steve standing there, smiling at him, fingers giving that silly little wiggle.
“Hey, Stevie,” he could hear how breathless he sounded, but he covered it with a slow inhale. “Come in. I was just practicing.”
“I’ll be quick then,” Steve said as he stepped in the doorway.
“No, it’s okay!” Jesus, Eddie, chill out.
Steve just smiled and settled his hands in his pockets. “You write your own stuff, right?”
While they may have only spoken for a few minutes at a time every week, they both gave plenty of little tidbits about themselves. Eddie had shared his love of music early on, talked about his band more than anything else.
“Yeah, when inspiration strikes.” Eddie shrugged.
“Have you been inspired lately?” Steve asked, still standing in front of Eddie with his hands in his pockets.
Eddie thought about the notebook open in his bedroom, line after line of lyrics about Steve.
“You could say that,” he answered.
“Could I hear one?” Steve asked.
Eddie never got nervous before playing in front of a crowd, or friends, or even his Uncle Wayne. He thrived on the adrenaline of an audience watching him, sometimes singing along, sometimes just nodding their head to the beat if they didn’t know the words.
But Steve hearing a song he wrote here? In his apartment? Alone?
His stomach was already turning and his chest constricted with anxiety.
“I mean, no pressure!” Steve quickly held his hands up. “You don’t have to.”
“No, it’s fine! I just usually play with my band, ya know? It won’t really sound the same without them, but if you really want…” Eddie looked towards his amp set up in the corner of his living room.
“I’d love to.”
Eddie was pretty sure this would scare Steve away, but maybe this was the move he had to make. At least he’d know one way or another if Steve was actually interested in him.
He knew exactly what song he wanted to play. He hadn’t even taken it to the guys yet, only played it acoustically so far because he knew it wouldn’t sound right with just his vocals and electric guitar.
It still needed some work lyrically, but he was pretty proud of it.
He gestured for Steve to sit on his couch, pushing thoughts about there being stains on his coffee table from not using coasters out of his mind so he could focus on his task at hand.
He rushed to the corner of the room to switch guitars, then rushed back and sat across from him on the couch.
“So this is one I haven’t even shown the band yet. I’m not sure if we’ll even play it. It’s…special to me,” Eddie rambled. “Sometimes I prefer to just have those for myself. Like sharing it with other people doesn’t feel right because it’s thoughts catered to me by me. That doesn’t even make sense-”
“Hey,” Steve placed his hand on Eddie’s arm. “It makes sense. I’m not really a musician or artist or anything, but one of the kids I used to babysit for was. He would get really nervous about stuff that was personal. I think it’s pretty normal.”
Eddie swallowed around the lump in his throat.
He was really doing this. Okay, then.
“Okay.” Eddie nodded. “Okay. Here we go.”
Eddie could feel Steve’s eyes on him as he sang a song about barely knowing someone but wanting them, about trusting that that person would be right for him, about getting a chance to love them. It was too much, but Steve didn’t run away, not even when Eddie finally looked up as he finished singing the last line.
“That was beautiful.” Steve had tears in his eyes. “I thought you guys were a metal band.”
Eddie laughed. “We are! This one will probably have some edits and I know Gareth will give it the double bass treatment. But for now, it’s more of a slow ballad.”
Steve had inched in closer to him while he played, his knee brushing against Eddie’s where it rested. He looked down at where they touched, then back up at Steve, who was biting his lip.
“This is gonna sound…so crazy. And you can totally kick me out and never let me come here ever again! But I just-”
“It’s about you.”
Steve’s breath caught as his eyes searched Eddie’s, probably looking for any sign that he was lying.
“You wrote a song about me?” Steve’s voice was barely more than a whisper. “Why?”
“Did you hear the part about knowing that something was right without knowing much at all?” Eddie leaned in, catching the scent of whatever cologne Steve had on.
“I just didn’t wanna assume you meant me.”
Eddie cupped Steve’s cheek in his palm. “You should always assume I mean you.”
*****
Steve leaned into Eddie’s hand, hoping the heat on his cheeks wasn’t too obvious.
“You barely know me, though.”
Eddie leaned in further, resting his forehead against Steve’s and breathing out.
“I know enough to know I wanna know more.”
“How long have you been feeling like this?”
“Before I gave you my address. No one else is allowed to pick up here.”
Steve’s eyes widened momentarily at his admission. He knew he had some special privilege with picking up at Eddie’s place, but didn’t realize he was the only one who did.
“But that was…months ago?” Steve had been sitting with his own feelings for so long, he was finding it hard to grasp that Eddie might have been feeling the same this whole time.
“Yeah. Seeing you for five to ten minutes every week has kind of been the highlight of my year,” Eddie admitted. “Is it okay if I kiss you?”
Steve answered him by leaning in the last few inches to kiss him.
He ended up staying for the rest of the night, and most of the next day, and nearly any moment he wasn’t working was spent with Eddie.
Five minutes a week turned into five days a week quickly, and nothing made Steve happier than driving straight to Eddie’s apartment after a long shift. He had a key now, so that if Eddie happened to be at band practice or his own job, Steve could let himself in and relax.
Sometimes, if he was feeling particularly stressed, he’d grab one of Eddie’s edibles and hop in a hot shower.
Eddie usually made it back in time to join him, and they’d get carried away for hours.
It took months for Steve to realize Eddie never seemed to sell to anyone.
“You know it doesn’t bother me if you do. I know you’re careful,” Steve said over dinner.
“Stevie, I really only kept selling to see you.”
“Oh.” Steve looked down at his lap to hide his blush. “So do you need me to pitch in for rent or anything since I practically live here?”
“Sweetheart, I really didn’t need the money,” Eddie laughed as he reached for Steve’s hand. “I’m good. But if you wanted to move in, I wouldn’t be opposed.”
“This is crazy, you know that, right?” Steve’s heart was racing in his chest at the suggestion.
“Not really. I love you, you love me, you do practically live here, and we spent over a year pining for each other. I think it’s time, don’t you?”
When he put it like that, Steve had no choice but to agree.

dating jason grace hcs! (ᴗ͈ ˬᴗ͈)ꕤ.゚
pairing jason grace x child of hermes!reader summary based off this request !! an lin manuel as hermes no matter how much i pretend to hate youre iconic and i actually love you
Tumblr media
"okokokok" and "lalalala" who ???
people were so surprised when you started dating since youre literal opposites ?!?!
youre so chill and laid back and fun
jason straightens up so quick and salutes if somebody yells attention
but since he's met you, he's definitely relaxed a little more
he's learnt to accept the fact that he can actually relax at times and just enjoy himself ?!?!?!? (shocking, right)
and you were the one who taught him that !!
it honestly started when your first met
cause he was training by himself after lessons had finsihed
you were walking around with your siblings, just passing by and decided to ask him if he wanted to go to the fireworks show that was being held that night ♡
cause like youd seen him around camp before, always helping someone out with someone, and youd be lying if you said you didnt think he was cute 😋 (i sound like a nine year old omg bye)
so what better time to ask than now !
i could lie and say he was super chill about it but lets be honest he was already smitten before you could even finish the question
dropped his sword, face all red and everythinggg 😵‍💫
(you tease him about this now, but he just fights it with a corny "guess you stole my heart" that makes you cringe and roll your eyes yet still smile)
he tried to act all cool and say he'd think about it when in reality he was already getting ready to run to the aphrodite cabin and ask piper for help
i love tlh trio so much i just know jason would be panicking about the whole thing and piper's trying to reassure him + give genuine advice while leo is just messing around 😭
he did manage to get some tips and you ended spending the whole nights talking and laughing instead of actually watching the fireworks ♡♡
he walked you back to your cabin and by then you both established big ol' crushes on each other (aw ya cuties)
the amount of teasing you got from your cabin that night was actually crazy though
you were last to get in that night and entered to a whole chorus of 'oooooo's
a few thrown pillows and 'connor i swear to the gods i will push you off the lava wall-'s later and you were finally able to go to sleep though ♡
the teasing and jokes never stop
even when you (finally) started dating
its your cabin's love language honestly
your younger siblings are OBSESSED with jason
hes actually so good with kids bye
he just 'treats them the way he wished he was treated as a kid :(
his words not mine i dont talk like im giving an anti-bullying assembly
but like he loves playing with them
instant besties !
he even helped them prank you one time :o
he felt so devious doing it good lord
real i was a bad girl i did some bad things yaknow
literally all he did was distract you as your siblings taped a balloon full of water and got a dart pin ready to pop it when you walked into the door
but he was all giggly when the prank succeeded
only for like 5 seconds cause then he was helping you dry off and apologizing
you didnt minddddd, it was fun seeing him act like a "rebel"
okay call me crazy but like trackstar power couple
hermes kids are fast, known fact, evidence? tlt musical said so
and i feel like jupiter/zeus kids would be too!! like moving at the speed of lightning hyperbole... please tell me you see the vision
but like being able to use that as an excuse to get some time away from people... the scandal.
jason telling the group he's with (not necessarily close friends, he knows he can just tell them that he's going out with you) that he's going out for a run
youll be flushed when you return-
when really he's ditching them to go hang out with you
cause this man can NOT say no. he's a people pleaser man it's hardwired into our brains
and they'll think it's normal cause like jasons weird
why question the kid who likes musicals and history
do you see where this is going.
jason taking you to watch opening night of hamilton cause he's been bouncing off the walls for it and really wanted to show you so he'd have someone to talk to about it after :)
it started off fun!!
you were both really enjoying the beginning! well, the first minute and twenty seconds of it at least
cause after that you lost your shit :D
your dad was literally on stage, a few hundred feet away from you, acting as a founding father
the rest of the show you were internally freaking out, questioning everything
jason had no clue, not until you told him during intermission
had the AUDACITY to say "...and thats how you were born" after the traumatizing experience of say no to this
after the show you chased you dad down on the street as he was trying to get 'home'
jason was lowkey giggling the whole time like he was not taking this serious at alllll
but hey he got to meet your dad !!
hermes likes jason, thinks he's a very distinguished gentleman
jason likes hermes, thinks he's pretty good at rapping
at least one of you gained something from that experience

**
I had received a call right after Chan had left the room. He decided he wanted to watch a few YouTube videos and spend time with me because in his words “Your growing up so fast Y/nie!” Then he proceeded to kiss my all over my face and tease me.
Anyways once he had left to go to bed making sure to yell 3000 plus times to everyone to make sure their packed and that their in bed asleep because
“I’m not going to be traveling with cranky and annoying grown ass kids!”
I had received a call from Connor. Connor? Why was Connor calling me at 10 in the night?
“Hey Connor!” I say into the phone surprised to see his name pop up.
“Hey Y/n! How are you?” He asks through the phone.
“Umm I’m alright and you? How are you doing?”
“I’m doing good! I haven’t talked to you in a while,”
“Yeah I’ve been so busy with schedules and shows, I’m sorry.” I genuinely say because I had indeed been lacking when it came to communicating with people back home just because I was terribly busy.
“Oh no need to be sorry! I’m so proud of you love. Anyways you might me wondering why I’m calling right now but…I have a suprise for you!” I hear the excitement in his voice.
“Oh really? A surprise?” I furrow my eyebrows in confusion. “Is everything okay back home?”
“Yes yes yes, no need to worry but…geuss who’s in town!”
I frown not knowing, “Who?”
“Me silly!” A gasp leaves me grasping for air.
“Oh what?! Shut the front door right now!” I sit up in bed almost being knocked over by the shock and surprise that had run through my body.
“Yes, yes I got here in the morning and at first I thought I would surprise you but I read online that you have a show in two days meaning you’re leaving.”
“Yeah I leave tomorrow morning Connor.” I frown, “will I not find you when I get back?”
“No I’m sorry but we can meet up right now?” He suggests.
I sigh and look at the book that was in my lap. “I don’t think I can-“
I remember the lecture Chan and leeknow gave me. I really did not want to get into trouble but I really wanted to see Connor. Was it worth it? I mean…it wasn’t the concert I was sneaking out for so technically I’m not breaking rules…
“Oh come on Y/n! I haven’t seen you in four years! Please!”
“Ugh fine, I’ll meet you in 30” I finally give in.
“Okay great! Should we meet at the ice cream place by my hotel?” I hear some shuffling going on through the phone. He was probably doing something.
“Yeah just text me the details yeah?”
“Yeah sure, oh and Y/n..” he stops and takes a deep breath making me feel a-bit nervous.
“Yes Connor” I pause and wait for him to talk.
“I missed you.”
“I missed you too Connor.” A big smile played on my lips. I hear him chuckle before saying a quick
“Okay see ya!” And hanging up the phone.
The butterflies start to form in my stomach. Was it the fact that I was about to sneak out the house or the fact that I was going to see one of my long time bestfriends after 4 years?
I think it was the fact that I was about to jump out my window and could potentially get caught and hanged by Chan or Han or Leeknow or Changbin or Seungmin.
I had to do it though. ‘Do it for the plot’ was my motto and it kept running through my mind as I quietly get out of bed and walk over to my closet. I pick out a cute little baby blue party dress and grab my airforces making sure not to wear them yet.
“God I know this is wrong and I know you’re probably going to punish me for going against Chan’s will but please take me and bring me back home without getting caught!” I whisper a small prayer while pulling up the window and opening it wide.
I throw my shoes out and grab my jacket before slowly jumping out the window and landing on the balcony then quietly climbing down making sure I didn’t make a sound.
“Oh shit!” I duck down when I land outside Hyunjin’s window. He was listening to music on his headphones while painting some type of picture so he didn’t quite see me.
Close one.
I crawl under his window and quickly put on my shoes and jacket when I’m out of his sight.
“Now where can I catch a cab at this hour?” I quietly exclaim and smack my forehead. I was crouched down and thinking of ways to grab a cab without possibly getting kidnapped.
Luckily our dorms weren’t so far away from the actual busy streets. So making sure no one could see me from any point of the house, I quickly run down the dark road begging that I didn’t hear anyone calling my name as I flee.
“Taxi!” I called while panting trying to catch my breathe. The man stops and I get in )tired obviously from all the running) telling him where to go, giving him the address.
It was a 15 minute ride and when we pulled up.
The night was cold it was no doubt and looking forward at the dash board of the car the time read “11:59”
It was late. Very late to be out alone.
“Thank you so much,” I say and pay the guy. I quickly make my way to the tiny shops that were on the road, spotting the ice cream shop straight away.
It was cute and had booths. It was decorated like any other normal ice cream shop but it felt more like a cute hangout spot to chill.
Once I walked in I say a quick hello to the lady sitting by the cash register. Her eyes go wide. She probably had noticed me but she didn’t bother to say anything probably scared that she might freak me out I guess.
I stood in the middle of the shop looking for Connor,
“Hey Y/n!” I hear my name being called. I turn to see a familiar face except it wasn’t so familiar.
“Oh my God Connor?! You’ve changed so much!” I run and give him a big hug literally climbing on him as he laughed and caught me.
“Well what can I say, 4 years can do a lot to a man. Oh and puberty!” He jokes.
“Oh my God I can’t believe you’re here! I’ve missed you so much!” I squeal at his presence.
“I’ve missed you too! How have you been? We have so much to catch up on! Come on!”
He grabs my hand and we walk over to a corner and sit in the booth. He calls the waiter and we order milkshakes and some ice cream.
“So…you’re like an idol now,” he pokes my shoulder from across the table causing me to blush. My hands automatically hiding my face in shame.
“Yeah yeah I geuss I geuss” I shrug it off like it’s not a big deal.
“How’s it like?” He asks curiously. I start to explain to him the many things we do and his intrigued and interested in everything. He keeps asking questions and occasionally I would ask him questions as well making our conversation so interesting going back and forth.
Once we were done with the ice cream and catching up I take a quick glance at my phone and fuck.
3:15 am.
“Oh my, it’s so late. I should start heading to the dorms.” I tell Connor who looked like he was ready to go aswell.
“Here let me pay,” I grab my company card and he pushes it away.
“My treat for coming to see me yeah?” He smiles and I couldn’t help to feel warmth feel my chest. I missed him. I missed home. I missed my parents. I missed my friends.
“Hey, why the frown? We just had the best night ever.” His hand was around me as we walk down the road. His body slowly warming mine.
He had insisted to make sure I got home safe meaning he wanted to make sure I got a cab when he was watching.
“Just a little homesick, that’s all.” I sigh while kicking the rock that was in-front of me.
“Hey, don’t be. It might feel a little depressing but everyone at home is rooting for you. We can’t wait for the show next month! We’ve all got our tickets.”
He nudges my shoulder causing me to giggle a little.
“Thank you for tonight Connor, I can’t wait to see you again.” I tell him once we finally get a cab.
“I can’t wait to see you again yeah? Make sure to call and text whenever you can.” He looks me in my eyes and for a moment the world goes slow. Our bodies were now against eachother.
His body towered over me as he slowly leaned in. I tiptoe to make our lips connect. My body melts into his. I wanted this so bad. I wanted him to stay. I wanted him to be here longer.
This was wrong but it felt so right.
My idol senses were tingling. Something was wrong but I didn’t care. I needed this. I needed to feel something. I needed to feel like a normal person again not a robot.
We finally pull away and he clears his throat and rubs the back of his neck.
“Well…that happened.”
His cheeks were dark red and I knew I wasn’t any better.
“It did.” I softly say and bite my lip.
“Yah! are you coming or not?!” The Cab guy says causing me to jump and laugh.
“Okay bye Connor! Foreal this time.”
“Bye y/n!” We hug one last time before I get into the cab and make my way home.
I watch as he slowly turns and starts to head back to his hotel. I could finally sit down and process the night.
You know that feeling when you get away with something? It feels like you’re on top of the world.
I was on top of the world! I felt nothing could stop me.
I even felt more confident when I crawled past Hyunjin’s room and all the lights were off because he was asleep. I was able to climb up my balcony and get back into the room.
Everything looked exactly like how I had I left it. So I quickly undress and wear whatever I wore when Chan last saw me and unlocked my door just incase anyone wanted to come into my room in the morning.
I was so tired. I needed sleep and what bothered me was the fact that I had to be awake in 4 hours. Getting into bed and closing my eyes only to be waken up by trouble.
*
A loud knock on my door is what woke me up.
It was loud and it wouldn’t stop being loud.
“Ughh what time is it?” I groan and turn on my phone to see it was only 6 am.
Who was at my door at 6 am? We leave at 8! Ugh!
I groggily get out of bed and out on my slipper.
I was trying to rub the sleep out of my eyes when I open the door I find a very furious Han standing outside. He was in his pajamas and he had his phone in his hand.
“Y/n Y/l/n You are in so much trouble young lady!”
I stare at him trying to remember what I could have possibly did to him. Did I eat one of his meals? Did I use on of his skin care stuff? Did he know I snuck out? He couldn’t have cause if Han knew the whole house would know.
I look behind him and gulp when I notice Hyunjin standing behind him aswell, obviously not pleased by whatever it is I had done.
Both of them had messy hair and were in sweatpants and shirts that were a bit wrinkled.
“See you even look guilty!” Hyunjin says while crossing his arms and giving me a death stare.
“What is it Han and Hyunjin it’s 6 in the morning.” I whine. “What could possibly be so important? What did I do?” I play it off. If I got them to tell me what I did first I wouldn’t have to confess to anything but still the guilt was eating me up.
“You snuck out last night didn’t you.” He cuts me out
My heart drops. My body freezes and I feel my brain stop working. My body was cold. I felt like I was about to piss myself but I was not going to allow them to catch me.
“What no I didn’t, I was in bed, sleeping, ask Chan,“ I simply say and they both scoff at this. Now I was starting to really get worried. How did they know? I was so quiet? Even Hyunjin’s room was all dark last night, I saw him sleeping with my two eyes! How is it possible.
“If you were really sleeping in your room what’s this?” Han says. I gulp the saliva that was refusing to go down my throat due to shock.
He pulls out his phone and shows me an article.
An article of me? I squint to read it.
Busted.
Think of a lie Y/n…think of a fucking lie!!
“What? What’s that’s not me!” I exclaim trying to play it cool.
“Stray kids Y/n, caught out last night with a boy kissing. Y/n are you joking right now. Kissing?!” He read from his phone. I gulp once again and stew at both of them.
“Do you know how much trouble you could get into young lady? Your career could be over!” Hyunjin growls and grabs the phone out of Han’s ham to read the article further.
“Hey, I’m trying to sleep in here what’s going on?” Changbin comes out of his room also rubbing his eyes.
Oh no. Not Changbin.
I look at the two boys that are standing infront of me and I give them the best puppy eyes I could think of. Begging them not to say anything without actually telling them.
“Guess what Bin,” Han rolls his eyes at me and furrows his eyebrows in anger.
“Han please don’t tell-“
“Geuss who was with a fucking boy last night kissing and everything?!” Han exclaims and turns to Changbin.
“What? What are you taking about?” He says before Han hands him the phone and he gasps looking at me.
His eyes now wide awake. His body posture up and alert.
“Y/n!” He shouts causing me to jump a little. “Y/n what the fuck is this?!” He yells.
“I can explain, they- I- okay-“ I start to stumble on my words.
He stares at me blankly before turning to Chan’s room and knocking. Really loudly.
“Chan!” He calls for Chan and I swear I wanted to disappear. It felt like I was going to be hanged if I did not run but it would be worse if I did run.
“No no no please don’t tell him Changbin.” I beg running to his side trying to stop him.
My heart was beating really fast and my hands shakes against his as I tried to pull him away.
“Are you serious?” Han asks looking at me trying to beg for my life.
“Bangchan!” Changbin calls again. Ignoring me and my begs.
Hyunjin and Han just both stand over on the other end and glaring at me. Probably wondering the many ways they were going to punish me.
I give up and let of his hand taking the looks they gave me as a warning not to make things worse.
“I’m so disappointed in you Y/n” he shakes his head and scoffs.
I look at my feet and shift uncomfortably.
“What is all of this commotion? We don’t leave in another two hours..” Felix groans getting out of his room.
“I was in my room scrolling through my feed and geuss what I found.” Hyunjin explains to Felix.
“What? It better be important because-“ he looks at the phone then gasps in shock. Great. “Is that actually Y/n?!” He asks looking at all of us.
“Yes it is and she was kissing I’m still stuck at the kissing part!” Han throws his hands in the air and starts walking back and forth.
“Who was kissing?” Seungmin asks joining the conversation walking up the stairs with tea in his hands. I cover my face in embarrassment.
“Yah! Will all of you shut up!” Leeknow walks out of the theatre with a blanket in his hands.
“Oh Hyung you should see what your amazing little princess was doing last night,”
I stand in shame as Felix passes him the phone. I could literally feel the slaps coming my way. (Not literally) but the fact that leeknow was processing the information and squinting his eyes.
He even dropped the blanket out his hand. His jaw left opened.
“Yes Binnie. You called?” The last door opens revealing Chan shirtless with long sweats on and his hair in a mess.
“Are you kidding me?…Are you fucking kidding me? I told you not to do one thing! One fucking thing-“
“Woah woah woah what’s going on? What did Y/n do? Why is everyone outside yelling? And why aren’t people getting ready for the flight?” Chan quickly interrupts Leeknow’s loud voice.
“Look Chan, just look. I can’t even deal with this right now.” Leeknow passes Chan the phone.
He stands there looking like he saw a ghost. He stands there for a long time. He stands there hands shaking trying to probably get words for me.
“Unbelievable behavior,” Changbin says. “Why do you not listen?”
I stand in the middle of everyone quiet. Not daring to speak knowing whatever I said would probably get me in more trouble. I wanted to cry.
I wanted to cry so bad but I couldn’t. It hadn’t yet hit me that I was now probably trending on every site.
“Y/n?” His soft voice stops the ugly thoughts running through my head.
I keep quiet and look at the floor refusing to look at him.
“Every-body into their rooms now and get ready for the flight. I’ll deal with this later.” He sighs while handing Han the phone.
That was bad. That was really Bad. If he wasn’t yelling and screaming at me now. He was mad. Really mad.
Everbody leaves the corridors and it’s just me and Chan.
“You’re dying your hair blonde right now. Go get dressed. I’m calling the stylist.” He says in a disappointing tone and slams his door. Not even letting me speak.
The tears automatically start to pour as soon as I close the door. I walk into my room and close my door. They didn’t stop when I took my shower. They didn’t stop when I slowly got dressed and it didn’t stop when I was doing my makeup which was a horrible mistake because the mascara kept running down my cheeks.
You’re so fucking stupid! So fucking dumb!
A knock on the door stops me from what I’m doing and I hopelessly open it to find the Madelyn our hair stylist standing outside with her equipments in hand. She gives me a sad smile. Almost like a ‘I know what your going through and I’m hear to fix it’
“Rough morning huh?” She asks setting everything down.
“Yeah” I nod and she pulls me into her arms as I start to cry even harder than before. Her little rubs on my back make me melt into her arms.
“Hey hey hey, it’s okay we’re going to fix this yeah? We’re going to make it seem like that wasn’t you at all and everything will go back to normal okay?”
“Yeah, except the fact that I’m grounded for life.” I say miserably and she chuckles.
“I was once like you my love, wild, young and free. Things like this happen and I know Chan is going to start understanding soon. His just so used to being around boys he forgets that he also has to raise a teen girl.” She smiles look at the mirror while doing my hair.
“Yeah I geuss but I was also in the wrong, I knew I shouldn’t have done it! I knew I was right. The feeling was in my stomach. Everything was too good to be true!” I huffed in frustration.
“Yeah but people won’t know it’s you if your hair is dyed now. They’ll think it’s fake and the secret will be between us.” She rubs my back.
“Not even management?” I ask her and she nods.
“Not even management. If they ask, you were home last night and I was doing your hair. Duhhh” she chuckles and pinches my cheek.
“Oh I love you so much Madelyn!” I say softly.
“Us girls have to stick together. Always! Now…tell me all about this boy! Don’t leave anything out!” She teases me and I feel my cheeks turn red.
“His just an old friend..” I start, “but I’ll tell you!” We both start squealing and gossiping like we always do whenever she did my makeup or hair.
We spent like an hour on my head before I was fully blonde. She quickly styled it and did my makeup for the airport.
“Alright all done, would you like me to help you carry your bags down?” She puts her brush down and analyzes my face.
Her hands were busy packing up her hair supplies.
“No it’s fine I’ll just take them down myself..“ she trails off as a knock interrupts the conversation and Chan comes in.
“Hey Madelyn, I didn’t see you come in. You good?” He asks and gives her a hug.
“Yeah I’m done with this little trouble maker. I hope you like it. I’m about to head out then head to the airport.”
“Yeah okay it’s fine” he turns and analyzes my big head of now blonde hair, “alright see you at the airport yeah?” She turns back to her and gives her a soft smile.
“Go easy on her Channie.” She chuckles and ruffles Chan’s hair.
“I’ll try,”
She packs up her stuff and leaves me and Chan in the room.
The air was tense. I stood there looking at anything but him. My hands rubbing against eachother.
“I’m not going to scold you or tell you off right now. But when we get to New York, you better pray that I don’t throw you off the skyscraper.” I gulp and look at him in fear, “now come on the cars are almost here and you need to eat.”
Fuck.

LOOK WHAT YOU’VE DONE Y/N!!🤣🤣Lmao see you in the next chapter bye bye.

IF WE DON’T TALK AGAIN, REMEMBER, I LOVE YOU. | CONNOR BEDARD
au masterlist
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“How do you know you’re in love with her?”
The question lingers through Connor’s brain like perfume. Claire had asked him after he had explained what happened in tears at their study session—which, let’s be honest—has turned more into a gossip sess instead.
“What?” Connor peeks his head up from the table, his eyes still glossy. “I just am Claire!”
“Okay, okay.” Claire rolls her eyes, clearly not expecting the boy to be so hostile. “Have you tried reaching out to her?”
“Too scared,” is what Connor mutters out quietly. “What if she rejects my apology?”
“Why are you apologizing again, Connor?” Claire asks, tapping her pen impatiently on the table. “Isn’t she the one who blew up at you because she was jealous you were studying with me; and isn’t she the one who ignored you so she could hang out with your best friend, what was his name? Ryan?”
Claire’s words are harsh, and Connor doesn’t exactly appreciate the way she describes you. His Bells. Well, he still hoped you were his.
“Her feelings are valid, Claire. I need to apologize for calling her insecure, it wasn’t right of me. But I also need her to know that she has to communicate with me in order for us to work.”
“Sounds like you’re putting in all the effort,” Claire retorts. “From what I’ve heard during all our study sessions, you seem to love and appreciate her and she’s just throwing it all out the window because she’s jealous.”
Now Connor was still upset at how the situation between him and you turned out, but Claire was in no position to claim that you weren’t putting in the effort. He knew you loved him; he knew, he just wants you to communicate.
“Stop speaking on things you don’t know Claire,” Connor spits out, visibly annoyed.
“It’s just from what I observe!” Claire exclaims. “If she’s making you this upset, it’s not worth it Connie.”
Normally, the nickname that you would call him would make his heart flutter, but when it came out of Claire Drewmor, he felt disgusted.
“Just stop, stop Claire.” Connor packs up his things, too tired to continue fighting against her little remarks towards his ex—no—current girlfriend. You two haven’t officially broken up yet.
“I was trying to help.” Claire tries to reach out for Connor, only to fail miserably. She almost bites her lip back in embarrassment. “She doesn’t deserve you.”
“Just a few days ago, you were telling me to go get her back.” Connor says, finding it unbelievable that Claire would say such things about you.
“Well that was before I knew she was such a jealous b—” but before Claire could say anything else, Ryan slams his hand on the table, scaring both her and Connor.
“Holy shit Ry!” Connor exclaims, holding in a breath.
“If I hear you talk about Bells like that again, I swear I’ll ruin you.” Ryan warns the girl, “I don’t care if you took me home that day, which thank you by the way, but fuck you bitch!”
“Okay that’s enough!” Connor pulls Ryan away from the scene before people can start to look at them. When they’re far away enough, Ryan gives Connor a hard push.
“You’re a jerk for what you did,” Ryan says, shaking his head in disappointment. “She’s been so upset, y’know? Cramming her head into her textbooks. Theo had to help her get out of her own head.”
That makes Connor’s ears perk up, the unfamiliar name leaving a bitter taste on his tongue. “Theo?”
“Theodore Coppola, some Italian dude who just recently transferred to me and Bells’ Calc class. Apparently, he’s a smartie and a hottie.”
“Okay, now it sounds like you have a crush on this Coppola dude.”
“I do not have a crush on Theodore.” Ryan rolls his eyes. “Me and this girl are talking, not like you would know because you’re too busy touching it up with Claire Drewmor over there.”
Ouch. Ryan’s words felt like a punch in the guts.
“But he might take away your girl if you keep acting like this.”
“Okay, I get it Ry.” Connor sighs. He didn’t like the way Ryan’s words seemed to be true. He was right, he had majorly fucked up with you, and now this cute Italian student waltzed his way into your life?
So he decides to put his pride aside, and get you flowers. Roses were your favorite, he remembered on your first date when you told him the pretty red colors made your heart flutter.
He knocked on your dorm room, expecting to either see you or your roommate open the door, only to frown in dismay when it’s a guy who he doesn’t know.
“Who are you?” Connor asks, already sizing the unknown guy up.
“Uh—I’m Theodore. Were you looking for Y/N or Melissa?”
Melissa was your roommate, and she wasn’t even at your dorm half of the the time. Of course he was looking for you, how dumb was this Theodore guy?
“I’m here for Y/N,”
“Ah,” Theodore opens the door wider, frowning a bit when he takes a closer look at Connor. “You’re Connor Bedard.”
“Yes I am,” Connor replies. “Problem?”
“Not at all,” though Connor’s definitely convinced Theodore doesn’t like him. He could tell from a guy’s perspective that a frown and shake of the head was no good.
“Hey Bells, there’s someone for you!”
Oh great. That made Connor’s heart practically sink to his stomach. This guy was already calling you Bells?
“I’m coming,” he could hear your footsteps coming to the door, then abruptly stopping when you realize it’s him standing there.
“What are you doing here?” You say, in the most bitter tone Connor has ever heard come from your mouth. He doesn’t like it, it makes him feel itchy and uncomfortable.
“This is my cue to leave,” Theodore says, which makes Connor let out a sigh in relief. “Text me if you need anything Bells, seriously.” Then he grabs his backpack, heading out the door in a hurry.
“I ask again Connor, what are you doing here?”
Connor doesn’t know what to say. He’s been practicing all morning about what he was going to say—what he was going to do. But now he’s here, he doesn’t know where to start.
“I—I brought you flowers.” He says, handing you the batch of roses. You don’t take it, and honestly, he doesn’t blame you. He’s been a jerk, and he’s lucky you haven’t slammed the door on him yet.
“I know you aren’t just here to give me roses,” you say, “what do you want? I have assignments I need to do.”
“I’m sorry.” He says. And then everything in his brain just spills out in a flash. “I’m sorry for everything, for the yelling, for calling you insecure, for not seeing it from your point of view. God—Bells—if you still let me call you that, I’m so fucking sorry. I love you, I do, and I’m an idiot for only realizing after the argument. I want to spend my entire life with you, I don’t care if you’re insecure or if you have trouble communicating Bells, I just want you.”
His lips wobble as he finishes, eyes not daring to look at you. “I was ranting to Claire,” he starts again, “and she said things about you that I didn’t like and I won’t repeat them now. But she made me realize that you’re the most important person in my life and that letting you go like that was the most idiotic move I’ve ever made. I know my words aren’t going to change what I said, or what happened, but please Bells, please, I can’t handle not speaking to you. I can’t handle looking at you knowing you overwork yourself in your classes. I want to be there for you Bells, I really fucking do.”
Before he could continue any further, you crush him in a hug, making him drop the bouquet of roses.
“I forgive you Con,” you say, pulling away to cup his face. “I’m sorry too. For not communicating more with you.”
“It’s okay,” he whispers, eyes glassy from the tears. “I love you either way.”
And finally, for the first time in weeks, Connor closes the distance between your lips, capturing you in a kiss.
Maybe Connor Bedard was a total idiot for what he did, but he was your idiot to begin with.

Danny's Daycare Part 8
[Master List]
“And that’s pretty much it.” Danny ended their tour in his office. “Any questions?”
Duke shook his head. “I’m excited to start.”
Danny showed him back out into the main area filled with kids which Mia and Ember had been taking care of while Duke learned about the daycare, the schedule, and what was expected of him. It seemed pretty simple- though he knew kids would always create unpredictable problems, but the job itself would be fine. The things he did for Tim.
“Finally!” Mia shouted, picking up a crying kid beside her and carrying her towards Danny and Duke. “Clara’s been asking for you for a while!” She passed the crying blonde child off to Danny before pointing back towards the kids. “C’mon Duke, the kids are coloring for now.”
They left Danny to handle Clara’s tantrum and watch the rest of the kids. Duke settled down next to a group of five kids, all coloring different pictures of Gotham vigilantes. He settled next to a little blonde girl who was coloring a picture of Robin with only shades of purple.
“Whatcha coloring?” He asked.
She looked at him out of the corner of her eye, assessing. “Robin.”
“That’s cool- why’s he purple?”
The girl sighed dramatically, like Duke had asked a stupid question. Apparently he had because nothing would have prepared him for the lecture he was about to get. “Not him- her. Robin was a girl and she was the coolest Robin ever! How can you not know that? Everyone knows that girl Robin is the coolest one! But since she’s gone, Spoiler's my favorite! So I thought- how cool would it be if girl Robin and Spoiler were the same person and now I’m coloring robin purple!”
“Oh.” Duke managed to respond.
“Boys.” She sighed, rolling her eyes and turning back to her coloring project.
He’d have to tell Steph about her little fan the next time he saw her. “Spoiler’s one of my favorites too.” He offers, hoping she’ll un-shun him.
It works, she turns back with excitement on her face. “She’s so cool! I wanna be just like her when I get older!”
The day went by quickly. Mia left much earlier than Duke did so the last three hours of his shift were just him and Danny and the kids. Somebody named Ember popped in briefly in the evening to drop off food for Danny and Duke. Her aura was… strange- but not as strange as Danny’s.
When Duke first met Danny he didn’t know what to think. No one had ever been as… bright as Danny. Duke figured he was some kind of meta and filed away the information for later. After meeting Ember, however briefly, he wasn’t so sure anymore. She was the same as Danny. They kind of… glowed and it was so similar- like how Clark, Connor, and Jon all had a similar aura. If that was true, then Danny and Ember were likely aliens.
He hadn’t told Tim that yet.
Tim had been busy lately and if Duke hadn’t taken this task off his hands we would be even busier. Truth be told, Duke didn’t understand Tim’s fascination with Danny. Sure, it was strange that someone willingly moved to Gotham and chose to use their, apparently very large, inheritance to help the people of a city they weren’t even from as a favor to someone else, but if Duke couldn’t believe in the goodness in people then what could he believe in?
Besides, there was no proof that Danny was doing anything nefarious. None of the kids had gone missing, he didn’t have any strange or large sums of money being added to any of his accounts, nothing seemed amiss. So Duke agreed to apply for a job at the daycare and keep an eye on the situation for the summer. Just to make sure Danny really was a good guy.
Spending more time with Mia was a plus. With school and his extracurriculars Duke hardly had time to hang out with any of his non-family friends. Tim definitely owed him one for giving up his summer vacation to work at the daycare.
“Thanks for all your hard work today, Duke.” Danny approached having just sent the last kid off with their parents. “I’ll see you on Wednesday.”
Duke nodded, putting away the books he had in hand. “You need any help cleaning up?”
“Nah, don’t worry about it. I’ve got a couple of guys who will be here shortly to help me clean the place up.” Danny smiled softly.
Did he have a cleaning crew? If so, why did he seem so happy about it? “Cleaning crew?” Duke asked nonchalantly.
Shaking his head, Danny fell back into a rolling desk chair that had been brought out earlier in the day. “Just a couple of street kids who need some money and won’t let me give it to them without doing something to ‘earn it’ so…” Danny closed his eyes, slouching in the chair, and rested his head against the backrest. “I’ll let them work for an hour or so, overpay them, and get out of here.”
That was… not exactly what Duke had expected. Just one more thing he could use to prove Danny was a good guy and get Tim off his back about this whole ordeal. Maybe he’d even convince Tim to take a day off. That was probably hoping for too much.
“Well, have a good night, Danny.” Duke waved, grabbed his things, and left. There was still a bit of daylight but despite originally planning on going out as Signal, he’d decided against it. Kids were exhausting.
How Danny managed to run the daycare every day for twelve hours without passing out from exhaustion was beyond Duke.
~~~
Danny was exhausted.
Along with the Daycare, taking care of Miguel and Santiago, and his usual Kingly duties, Clockwork had been on his ass recently. Something about taking his job more seriously- what part of doing a favor for a prominent city spirit wasn’t taking his job seriously? Apparently Danny was also supposed to find and appoint his own Fright Knight- which would have been awesome to know a long time ago but whatever-
Could he just get ONE night of sleep? Please.
He’d canceled on his friends for three weeks straight, unable to find the time or energy to even video call and catch up. They’d started asking if he was okay, Jazz had started threatening to show up and force him to rest but she had her hands full between school and her internship so he wasn’t convinced she’d actually do anything.
Duke had been great, having the extra help at the daycare was really great and the days he didn’t work were much more difficult. Ember had agreed to come back regularly on Tuesdays and Thursdays for a little while, but she really wanted to get back to touring and playing music and he couldn’t really fault her for that.
It was the Thursday night after Duke’s first day when she showed up.
“Danny- how the hell am I supposed to know this?” Miguel groaned.
“You’re gonna have to be more specific, kid.” Danny called back, serving the steaming bowls of paprikash. Dani got lots of souvenirs from her travels and while Danny had certainly not thought he’d ever need to use the recipes, he was grateful for them now.
There was a shuffling sound and only a moment later Danny found Miguel standing beside him, pointing at a chemistry equation. “This. This is bullshit!”
Sensing Miguel’s rising frustration, Danny tried to placate him. “How about we take a break from studying for dinner? Afterwards I can explain it to you and anything else you’re confused about.”
“Except English.” Santiago muttered bitterly.
In the short time Danny had known the boys he’d learned a lot about their learning styles, their strong suits, what they liked and disliked, and what kind of smart they were. Santiago was a lot like Danny, scientifically minded- Danny had already caught him taking apart the toaster and the TV just to figure out how they worked. Which meant, while catching him up on STEM classes was relatively easy, they struggled much more with the arts.
Miguel, on the other hand, was competent. He was street smart. Although he wasn’t dumb by any stretch of the imagination, he struggled with learning anything from a book. Despite all of that, he really tried. He’d been keeping up with the worksheets Danny had gotten him and helped Santiago with anything he could, but he hated it and it showed.
Suffice it to say, the boys were struggling- all three of them.
“Dinner. Then we can figure it out.” Danny repeated, placing down the bowls and grabbing drinks.
Miguel left briefly to feed the cats, before joining them at the table.
“You know,” Danny started casually. “I was thinking about the cats.” Miguel tensed up. “It’s a lot of cats in my small apartment and I’m gone all day. I was thinking- if you had wanted- that you boys could have one of them.”
Like always, Danny spoke casually. He’d learned quickly that they didn’t respond well when Danny spoke too decisively. It was like they thought he was trying to tell them what to do, so in general, he made sure it was clear that he was only suggesting ideas.
He also knew that Miguel had taken a liking to the cats- especially Curiosity, and he wanted to find a way to give Miguel stability.
“You…” Miguel swallowed. “You mean it? Really?”
Danny nodded. “Of course. We can go shopping for everything this weekend. You remember Damian- from the mall?” Miguel nodded, confused. “He taught me everything I’d need to know about owning cats. I’ll give him a call and see if he’d be willing to come over and teach you what he knows.”
Santiago opened his mouth but was cut off by a rapid knocking on Danny’s front door. The three exchanged looks, no one really sure who it could be but all prepared for the worst because of their upbringing.
“Probably a neighbor or something.” Danny shrugged, hiding his own concerns as he moved away from the dining room towards the front door. Technically, they did have one neighbor on the floor in the apartment across from Danny’s and next to the boys but they kept to themselves. It was not likely to be the neighbor.
He didn’t see anyone when he looked through the peephole, saw nothing, and opened the door slowly.
“BOO!” A voice shouted only moments before a girl appeared out of thin air and lunged at him. Danny grabbed an outstretched hand, spun the body around, and slammed it into the nearest wall. “OW! Ancients dammit, Danny!” She shouted, phasing out of his grip.
“Dani?”
“Holy shit, Danny, that was badass! Maybe try not to slam me so hard next time though?” She chided goodnaturedly.
He let out a deep breath, calming his racing heart (Racing being a relative term because it was probably only beating as fast as a normal completely living human heart would). “Ancients fuck Dani, don’t do that!”
“Danny?” Miguel’s wary voice sounded.
Dragging his sister towards where he’d left the boys, Danny composed himself. “Sorry guys, this is my sister- Dani.”
“Danny?” Santiago squinted.
He shook his head. “She’s Dani with an ‘i’ and I’m Danny with a ‘y’. I know, it’s confusing. Dani, this is Miguel and Santiago.” Danny gave his sister a pointed look. “Have a seat, I’ll get you a bowl.
Dani plopped into the seat across from Santiago and waited for Danny to deliver the food. “So this is why you’ve been so busy?”
Returning with the food, Danny rolled his eyes. “No, I have been busy with everything else. Miguel and Santiago take up barely any of my time and I like having them around.”
“You two ever seen this man sleep?” She asked conspiratorially. They shook their heads slowly, looking between Danny and Dani. “Exactly. He’s been neglecting sleeping and eating because he’s a moron!”
“Dani.” All eyes landed on Danny who was rubbing a tired hand down his face. “I’ve been sleeping and eating- can we move on to why you’re here?”
Taking a big bite of food, Dani rolled her eyes. “Can’t a sister visit her brother?” She pointed at him and looked at the boys. “Can you believe this guy? Don’t ever treat your little brother as badly as Danny treats me, you hear?” She directed at Miguel who nodded in confusion.
Danny smacked his sister’s leg, which she’d propped up on his chair, and took his seat again. “I treat you just fine! You just don’t drop by that often- it’s been nine months since I saw you in person last and that was because you needed a favor!”
Dani cackled, shoveling down the food quickly and kicking her feet up onto her brothers’ lap. He rolled his eyes but let them remain as he finished his own food.
“I didn’t know you had another sister.” Santiago observed.
“You don’t talk about me? I’m hurt!” She gasped mockingly.
Miguel brought his and his brothers’ bowls to the sink and started washing them while everyone else chatted. “Miguel- I’ll do the dishes, don’t worry about it.”
“It’s fine, I’m almost done already.” It was just two bowls and spoons after all, but Danny still didn’t want them to do dishes when he’d cooked the meal. He wanted them to focus on school and making friends and forget about everything else- at least while they were at his apartment.
Santiago squinted between the two of them. “You look really similar.” He noted, suspiciously.
Danny offered a nonchalant shrug. “We’re siblings.”
“So’s Jazz but you two look nothing alike!” He exclaimed.
Miguel put a hang on his brother’s shoulder calmingly. “I think we’ll just head back to ours for the night.” He glanced at Dani a bit uncomfortably.
“If that’s what you guys want, but you don’t have to. I promise she won't bite- probably.” Danny chuckled.
The older boy shook his head. “We’ll let you two catch up and come back to do more school stuff tomorrow- if that’s all right?” Danny nodded and the boys left quickly.
“Awwww- I wanted to get to know your kids!” Dani pouted.
He sighed, grabbing his and his sister’s plates and carrying them to the kitchen sink. “Miguel’s pretty skittish- you scared him off. Not your fault really, but he doesn’t like new people, a skill that has kept him and his brother alive for the last three years.” Drying his hands on a towel, Danny leaned against the counter facing his sister and met her eyes. “But you didn’t come here for that, you didn’t even know about them. So what brought you here?”
She looked at the cup of water he’d given her and fidgeted with the condensation on the glass. Sheepishly, she looked at him before looking away again. Gathering her courage it seemed. “I… I want to get my GED… and go to GU.”
Although it seemed out of left field, Danny schooled his expression. She was always more in tune with emotions than even he was (whether that was because he’d been human before becoming a halfa and she’d only ever known life as a halfa or just because that was her personality, he didn’t know) and he knew that his opinion meant something to her- even if she pretended it didn’t.
“Okay.”
“Okay?” She squinted.
“Well,” He sat across from her, hands on the table. “Are you just telling me that, or are you asking for my help?”
“Don’t make me say it.” She groaned.
With a smirk, he shook his head. “Okay, so you want my help?” She didn’t respond and he took that as a yes. “You can join the boys and I when we work on school stuff, I can help with getting your GED and putting together the application to GU as soon as that’s done. Do you need a place to stay?”
She wrinkled her face. “I’m not living with you.”
“Hey! I resent that! Besides, I own this building and most of it’s just empty apartments.”
Dani’s eyes widened. “Are you offering me an apartment?”
“Are you asking for an apartment?” He challenged, smirk on his face once again.
“I swear this is why everyone likes me better- I’m literally the better version of you!” She shouted, landing her forehead on the table and groaning at her brother’s silence. He remained silent while she continued to avoid looking at him. They were at a stalemate.
“Fine!” She shouted. “Can I have one of your apartments?”
He tilted his head to show he was still waiting for something.
“...Please?” She gritted out.
It was going to be nice having his sister around more often.
~~~
Turns out, tutoring kids who haven’t been in school for three years and one who has never been in school was a lot harder than Danny had anticipated. He didn’t know how to teach certain subjects (curse the arts) and was struggling to get Miguel and Dani to understand what he was saying when it came to math and sciences. He’d finally had the brilliant idea to go to the library and pick up a bunch more books.
Danny had left a clone to finish up at the daycare for the last couple of hours and made his way to the library. He’d need a couple of textbooks, a GED study book that was highly recommended, and a bunch of different literature books. Probably. He thought. Who knew really? He certainly didn’t.
He noted the library was pretty empty, the only patron was leaning over the front counter talking to the front desk girl. Danny didn’t pay them much mind as he moved throughout the library collecting books- though he was sure he felt their eyes on him any time he passed by the front desk.
Eventually, he had a stack of books that would keep his three ‘students’ busy for a while. Hopefully a long while, he was kind of out of ideas after this round of books.
Dropping them onto the front desk, the side opposite where the man was still standing, Danny sighed.
“That’s quite the collection.” The man noted.
Finally, Danny actually looked at the man. He hadn’t been expecting the most beautiful man he’d ever seen to be casually checking out his stack of books. He had short black hair that was slightly longer at the top with a shock of white right at the center of his forehead. His eyes were blue with a hint of green around the edges and he was built like a brick house.
He was wearing a red t-shirt, brown leather jacket that hugged his body nicely, and tight black pants which Danny refused to see how they hugged him.
With a shrug, Danny leaned against the counter, the front desk girl nowhere to be seen. “Yeah, they’re not for me.”
“Who’re they for?” The man asked casually.
“I’m helping a couple of kids get back on track in school but they haven’t gone in three years so there’s a lot to catch up on. I’ll admit,” Danny chuckled. “I’m only really built for STEM… the English side of things is… not my forte.”
The man nodded slowly. “Yeah you’ve got quite a collection of works there.” There was amusement in his voice.
Groaning, Danny rubbed a hand down his face. “I’m just going to have to hire a tutor in Literature or something. I barely have the time to teach what I know- I almost failed literature in high school.”
The man -Danny really needed to get his name- watched Danny closely for a moment. “Who are these kids to you? Why do you have to get them into school?”
“I said I would.” Danny shrugged.
“They family? Friends of yours?” The man probed.
Danny shook his head. “Just a couple of street kids who needed help and were willing to let me give it.”
The man squinted. “So you’re trying to help a couple of kids you barely know?” Danny nodded slowly, unsure if the man was judging him or not. “Well, if they get in- great. But if they don’t- at least you tried, right?”
Something about the way he said it set Danny on edge. “Excuse me?”
“They’re just some street kids, who cares, right?”
“What the fucks that supposed to mean?” Danny asked, voice rising. He didn’t give the man a chance to answer, anger already overflowing. “I promised I’d help them cause I have the means so I’m going to. And the reason Gotham’s such a shithole is because of people like you who think the homeless population are worthless good-for-nothings instead of the intelligent and down-on-their-luck people I know they are. Ancients- this whole city is fucked!”
The man began chuckling, setting off Danny’s anger even more. “What are you laughing about now, asshole?”
Offering a genuine smile that took Danny completely off guard, the man offered him a hand to shake. “I’m Jason, former street kid, it’s nice to meet someone who actually cares.”
Stupefied and completely confused, Danny shook his hand without meaning to. “Danny- did you say all of that shit to test me or something?”
The man- Jason- shrugged. “Had to make sure you weren’t some kind of creep.”
“What the fuck?” Danny breathed trying to reign in the anger he’d let seep out before (he had years worth of repressed rage and nowhere to put it, he’d thought he might finally have someone to unleash the anger on).
“Well, if I haven’t completely scared you off with that little stunt,” Jason smirked, grabbing one of those flower pens libraries always seemed to have and scribbled something down. “Literature was my best subject in high school. I’d be more than happy to help you tutor a couple of street kids in need.”
Jason slid the piece of paper to Danny. It was a phone number. People were giving him their number a lot recently- what was that about? As a teenager Danny could count on two hands how many contacts he had in his phone, after… the incident, he could count on one hand how many contacts he had. After moving to Gotham he’d slowly begun collecting numbers from apparently the entire city.
“What was that yelling about?” A woman’s voice cut through the silence Danny hadn’t realized was there.
Waving his hand casually, Jason smiled. “Just me being an asshole and Danny here defending his people. I’ll see you at brunch?” He directed the question at the red headed librarian who nodded suspiciously. “Nice to meet you Danny, think about my offer.”
He didn’t mean to track Jason’s movements as he left but he couldn’t help it. He also didn’t realize he was doing it until the librarian cleared her throat. “Ah, right, sorry.” Danny pushed the books towards her sheepishly.
She began scanning the books, typing something in the computer between each one. “Danny was it?” He nodded. “I’m Barbara, sorry about Jason, he can really get under people’s skin if he wants to.”
“Nah he’s fine.” Danny sighed. “I probably would have done the same thing.”
She eyed him curiously. “What did he do?”
“Just wanted to make sure I wasn’t some asshole who was just using some street kids I’m helping.” He paused, offering his library card to Barbara. “I’m not- for the record. Just trying to help them get into school again.”
Barbara bagged up his books during his explanation. When he was finished she handed him the bag. “Jason really is one of the smartest people I know- if you’re considering letting him help you with that…. You won’t be sorry.”
He hesitated, unsure if he wanted to accept the stranger’s help. “I’ll think about it, thanks.”
~~~
When Danny left the library Babs immediately pulled out her phone and texted Jason. She hadn’t seen him smile like that since before he’d died, there was no world in which she let him let Danny get away. Whether that boy knew it or not, he was going to be a part of the family. It was like fate- he even looked the part, black hair, blue eyes, completely exhausted, going out of his way to help people he barely knew- he was perfect.
Now to strategize getting them together- she’d need Dick’s help. He’d be more than excited for the task at hand.
If she closed the library a little early in order to find everything she can on Danny Nightingale- the man Tim had been low-key convinced would become a rogue and had begun obsessing over for the past couple of months- and find a way to orchestrate is integration into the family then who could blame her?
DC, you decided to make Barbara and Cassandra ditch Stephanie out of birds of prey and rejected the proposal for her to be the leader of a new team of young heroes... Seriously... Would it be that hard or terrible or extremely difficult to you to make her be part of something? She doesn't have to have her own run if you don't want to I see how you rejected the last proposal ok but why can't she be part of something? Why isn't she part of the birds of prey? I seriously don't get it... On the other hand Damian is with everyone, with his father, with Jon, with Wonder Woman, with Connor Hawke and Rose Wilson... And those last ones even got to be placed in a family drawing of people who loves him... So they spend some days together in a island and suddenly characters like Duke, Jason and Stephanie are replaceable in a drawing... Cool, cool, nice... Yep Damian gets a spotlight constantly being with a lot of different characters but not with Stephanie? Like really DC you forgot they were the best duo as Batgirl and Robin without the romance factor...
Ok but what about jason? I'm sure you would love another Red hood run DC... Could you add Stephanie? As partners on a mission? See? I'm not even asking for romance you see, I just want to see them together in the same panel more often, having proper conversations and fighting together and support each other! Because they are similar!! Just like you put together Connor and Damian because of their similarities!! Damn it! Is not that hard!!! You don't want to put Stephanie with the other Batgirls and Tim anymore? FINE I'm getting sick of them being the only ones who get to have Steph anyway. LET STEPH INTERACT WITH OTHER CHARACTERS!!! DUKE, SUPERGIRL, HUNTRESS, BLACK CANARY, BATWOMAN, CATWOMAN... FUCKING JASON TODD!! she would even get along with Bizarro! She could hang out with the first Superboy who she used to have a poster of in her room and had a bad first interaction and roast Tim together! She was the girl wonder, let her be friends with some wonder girl too! Or wonder Woman even! O let her team up with Damian too now that you use him so much! DC I'm not giving up I swear I'll even do witchcraft to get you to do real Justice! STEPHANIE BROWN DESERVES JUSTICE!
Love Sea Ep 6 Stray Thoughts
Last week, Mut and Rak went on a date to a nice restaurant for lunch and then to the grocery store. Mut was extremely charming, and then Rak's asshole cousin showed up at his house to start shit with him. Rak handed her her entire ass for her trouble, but then tried to buy a bunch of suits for Mut because he didn't want people to say rude things about Mut. Mut reminded him that he doesn't care about what others say before almost having sex with that man in a changing room. Meanwhile, Mook continued to fret about not being needed, and I'm glad Vie is into that.
Interesting. We're picking up from the mall. I don't mind the reassurance that they're okay after the last conversation, but Rak is still trying to buy things for Mut.
Chapter 6: Jealousy is a Sign of Love. OBJECTION!!!!!! I DO NOT SUPPORT THIS.
I like that Fort moves differently as Mut.
I love Mut sitting back and letting Rak unload all this grief and pain he's suffered about his family situation.
I am glad Mook is actually hanging out with some of her friends if she's been this attached to Rak the whole time.
Thankful again that some of the shows remember that they both have dicks.
I'm interested in Khom's perspective since there's a similar history here.
LOL why are these guys jealous at all? They're hanging out in front of Rak.
Interesting. I hope Connor wasn't trolling about having writers block sex with Rak.
All this jealousy is ridiculous.
Finally some Rak and Vie alone time.
Very amused that Rak is able to admit to Vie that he's feeling possessive of Mut and too stubborn to apologize.
Vie, do not use your acting ability this way.
A child!
Oh, this must be Rak's niece.
What is this royalty free music that sounds like The Ants Go Marching In?
Sometimes it feels like Mut takes this whole buying thing more seriously than I expected and it makes me wonder.
I love this child. She can stay.
On the real though, she seems to have a clear read on the adults in her life and I wonder what horrors she's had to process.
I really am trying to stay with this show since it seems to know what it's playing with. Even Meena knows the history with the grandfather.
Wow. My man asked for head earlier and would you look at that.
Whoa.... We never get face fucking in BL.
Whoa, Vie is part French.
BossNouel jump scare.
I've only had Meena for one episode, but I am now going to complain about how few nieces and nephews we get in BL. Who was the last one? Mork's nephew in My Ride? Also, what's up with them hiding Connor from us? I hope we get a strong resolution on this grandpa situation and the contract stuff. Even the kid knows this whole shebang is weird.
Connor has been planning this forever. From the moment he met you he knew you were the one. He fills the house with roses of every color and hires and band to play. He gets the biggest diamond he can get and your favorite wine. When you walk in the house after a long day, you're sorta bombarded by classical music. Connor's down on one knee, telling you all the reasons why he loves you, why he fell for you. You're not expecting it at all. He would have asked on a beach in Italy or Spain, but that would have taken longer and he just couldn't wait. He's got a photographer taking pictures, too. Of course you say yes, yes, a thousand times yes! He hugs you so tight you can barely breathe. Connor never thought he'd feel as loved as you make him feel. No one in his life ever gave him the thought or time or anything. You proved him wrong: that he is a loveable person. Now you'll get to spend the rest of your lives together.
Tumblr media
Kendall, why isn't babygirl allowed to be this happy all the time he asks you to marry him when you're both in bed after a long night of drinking and partying. You're covered in glitter, too tipsy to get out of your party clothes. He's all smiles and giggles. When he asks you, you pinch him lightly. Don't joke like that, you say. You've been dating forever, it feels like. You'd love to marry him. He knows how you feel. Suddenly, he gets this very serious look about him, almost sober. I'm not joking, I mean it. Marry me. You look at him, the room spinning. You laugh, trying to figure out if this is real or not. He would never joke about anything like this. He's serious. Of course, you answer. He doesn't have a ring or anything, but he kisses you anyway, hard, tasting of booze. When you wake up in the morning, wondering if it was even real, he can't stop referring to himself as your husband. He gets a ring and asks again properly, but only you two are aware of the first time he actually asks you to marry him.
Tumblr media
Shiv asks you not-so-romantically over the phone. She's weighed the pros and cons. You're already living together, you share everything. Why not? You don't love how analytically she's looked at this, at your love, but you say yes regardless. When you hang up you can't stop smiling. You and your Shivy, forever? It didn't seem real. When you get home from work she's got a bottle of wine and a little black box waiting for you. She admits maybe that wasn't the best way to go about it, that she'd like a redo. Will you marry her? Yes, yes, a thousand times yes! Shiv can't believe it. She thought Tom would be it. That she'd be stuck in that loveless entrapment for the rest of her life. But then she found you, the one she wants to spend the rest of her life with. You call everyone you know, wanting to brag that you're going to be a Roy, that you're lucky enough to call Shiv your wife. She knows what her family will say of course, that only Connor will the excited, so she makes a note to tell everyone tomorrow. For now, it stays between you and the people who will be excited for you.
Tumblr media
Roman doesn't ask you, he more tells you he thinks you should get married. One night when you're both getting ready for a party. You're fixing his cufflinks when he says it like it's no big deal. We should get married. You look at him, wondering where all of this is coming from. I, I don't- it's not- if you don't want to. . . Rome, of course I do, I just didn't think you wanted to. From under the sink he pulls out a little box. Here, it's fuckin- if you want it- I don't know. You cup his face, making sure he's looking at you and really listening. Roman Roy, I want to spend the rest of my life with you. He gets quiet after that, like he can't believe it. Really, he can't. He's not sure why he asked now, when you're already running late and needed to be at Shiv's by ten, it just came out. He's had the ring for weeks, checking on it every so often just to make sure it's real, that it's still there. He's not very romantic or affectionate, it just sort of happens.
Love Me Like I Can // Chapter 1
Chapter 1 // Vibe
Tumblr media
pairing: Joe Burrow x Singer! Original Female Character
•summary: Inspired by Scandoval and Taylor/Travis. R&B singer Diana Hayes navigates falling in love after a cheating scandal captures the attention of America and a certain Bengal.
•warnings: •warnings: Cursing. Cheating. Sexual Situations. Drinking. Drug use. MINORS DO NOT INTERACT.
January 21, 2024.
Diana was currently sitting cross-legged in Biz’s room, computer in her lap, sharing a bottle of wine with her sister. Open on the screen was the Spotify app, with Diana’s first album Get Out pulled. Avoiding the writing she was supposed to be doing, the singer was instead focusing on watching her sister unpack her new room. The activity was a welcome distraction from the feelings that usually came with writing.
The past three weeks had been hectic for the sisters to say the least. Diana had finished up all of her press obligations for Band Together and the release of her EP in the first two weeks of January and spent the past week moving her things into her new rental in New York from Boston. They had two and a half weeks before Diana’s schedule would be filled with writing and recording for her upcoming album and tour. She had thought stepping foot into the house she shared with Connor would make her miss him, but in reality, it just made her angry and sad that every memory she had of Boston was tied to him.
“So, what are you doing again?” Biz questioned, passing the bottle and continuing to hang her sweaters.
“I’m making a public playlist with some of my songs and some songs by other people who have summed my feelings up more eloquently than I could have,” Diana explained, adding the title song to the playlist. Leave (Get Out) applied to her current situation way than she could have ever thought when she recorded it at 14. She moved on to her second album, eyes scanning the titles.
“No, I know what you’re doing. I guess I should have asked why you’re doing this instead of… yknow, writing and preparing for the songwriting session you have coming up. You record at the beginning of March, you’ve got to have material.”
“I think I’m still more hung up on the situation than I want to be and people to know about. Like, I don’t know what combination of emotions I’m experiencing, but I’m stuck,” Diana admitted, twisting her long hair into a top knot and adding two songs, “The High Road” and “Too Little Too Late” from her second album. “Like, can I write about the situation and still be angry? Can I use the songs I wrote about Connor? I definitely don’t want people to think I’m still hung up on him. I’m really just hurt by the betrayal of it all.”
“Well, I think you’re allowed to still be heartbroken about it still, Di. It’s been three months.” Biz had made her way to Diana to hand her the wine and wrap her into a hug. “This is the first downtime you’ve had since then, you’re allowed to be sad and people will be fine with that. We’re going to get drunk tonight and have fun. If you write, you write. No pressure on healing, okay?”
Diana stared at her sister’s little finger before her own laced around it and she uttered, “Promise.”
“Now, turn on some music, and let’s go do a shot!”
Biz indicated to follow her, so Diana did as she was told. Half an hour later, the two were sitting on the couch in their living room laptop between them, taking their second shot of tequila. Diana would be lying if she said she didn’t feel the first and the large glass of Sauvignon Blanc she had been sipping from.
“Have you texted Joe yet?” Biz’s voice chimed, clearly trying to brighten the mood. Unfortunately for Diana, the alcohol intensified the feelings of rejection as her face settled into a deep frown and a lump formed in her throat.
“No.. uhm, his agent never got back to Cathy, so I never got his number…” She cleared her throat and gave a nervous laugh. “Which is totally fine or whatever because I almost even forgot his name.” Biz rolled her eyes, “Right,” she muttered as she took a drink of her own cocktail. She knew her sister spent at least two days googling the handsome quarterback. “Have you reached out on social media?”
“I don’t want to look desperate, Biz! I don’t even know if I’m ready for another relationship. He’s just cute and looked fun, that’s all.” Diana was still nervous about the idea of jumping into something so soon. She and Connor had been together since she was 19 and while he wasn’t her first relationship, she thought at one point he was going to be her last. The idea of starting over at 26 was scary.
“I think we should invite him and some friends to your birthday party,” Biz interrupted her self-doubt spiral to propose the wildest idea Diana had heard yet.
“Biz, he won’t even give me his number. How would I even do that?,” Diana shifted in her seat uncomfortably. “His friends were probably just making fun of him because he likes my music.” “I wish you would stop fucking doubting yourself, Di. You’re hot as fuck and dude probably too scared to text you. You build everybody up but yourself. I wish you would give yourself half the love and grace you give other people.” Biz’s words must have sparked inspiration because Diana grabbed her laptop and paused the music. Opening a word document she began typing and humming to a beat.
Lover girl, loving everything but herself.
Pedestals for everyone, but she’s on a shelf.Emotion comatose, you know how that shit goes.
The sisters spent the next forty minutes sending ideas back and forth to each other, opening another bottle of wine, and listening to Diana sing their ideas into the room. They had finished one song and had even been in good enough spirits to finish a song Diana had been working on before her breakup. Giggling with her sister would never get old, Diana was certain. Everything she had been through in the past three months just made her realize how grateful she was that she had her sister. When their dad died, Diana had attempted to shut everyone from her family out of her life and she was just glad Biz was too stubborn to let that happen.
Just as the thought that Biz’s stubbornness was a positive trait crossed Diana’s mind, she looked up to see her phone in her sister’s hand and hear a “It isn’t what it looks like,” fall out of her mouth.
“Well, then what is it? Because it sure as hell looks like you’re going through my phone,” Diana shrieked, weakly reaching for the iPhone.
“I just texted Cathy to invite some of the Bengals to your party! You’re already going to be meeting Taylor’s boyfriend, might as well make it an AFC reunion,” Biz said excitedly, knowing it was too late for the text to be unsent.
Diana wanted to be angry at her sister, but she couldn’t help but feel the excitement bubbling in her stomach.
-------------------
February 3, 2024
Diana hadn’t celebrated a birthday since her 20th and she was nervous. Biz and her manager Cathy, had insisted on throwing her a huge birthday party to make up for the ones that she missed celebrating. Connor had always insisted that celebrating birthdays was narcissistic, refusing even to get her a present in the seven years they were together.
The redhead was currently sitting in the back of a blacked-out Suburban, between Biz and Taylor Swift. In the third row sat Travis and Austin, Taylor’s brother,  quietly chatting about something that Di couldn’t make out.
“Thank you again for this, Taylor,” Diana sighed, trying to regulate her breathing. “There is no need to thank me! Everyone needs a friend, Diana. Just because you’ve had some pretty shitty ones in the past doesn’t mean we can’t show you what they’re really supposed to be.” Taylor said, placing an arm around her new friend’s shoulder.
“Plus, if my intuition is right, you just might be making more friends tonight,” Taylor smiled as the car came to a stop. Diana was going to ask what she meant before the door was opened and flashes of light began blinding her vision.
Diana was still trying to get her eyesight back to normal when she stepped into the venue that had been rented for the evening. Her sister had done an amazing job, the entire room was decorated as if they had just stepped foot into a forest. She now understood why her sister insisted on her wearing the cream corseted dress that perfectly fit the theme. Diana felt like a fairy.
Looking around the room, Diana was overwhelmed by not only the number of people but who cared enough to actually show up for her. The room was a mix of people she met since the breakup and ones who have known her since before her debut album. She was almost certain she had seen some people she hadn’t even recognized!
Two hours after arriving and making her rounds, Diana found herself sharing a joint with Elijah, one of her childhood friends from Philly. The two hadn’t seen each other in years, but had picked back up like they never missed a step. The pair were in a fit of giggles when Diana noticed a group of rather large men sitting at a high top near the bar.
Diana took a pull from the join, squinting her eyes to try to make out the faces of any of the four men laughing amongst themselves. “Do you know who they are,” she exhaled the question and the smoke together.
“Not for real, but it looks like they linebackers or some shit,” Elijah cackled, taking the joint from Diana’s hand.
“Fuck,” she cursed Biz aloud. “That has to be Travis’ friends, right?”
Diana was weighing the odds that any Chiefs player, other than the one who was dating her friend, would show up to her party less than a week after losing the spot in the upcoming Super Bowl. She didn’t know much about pro athletes, but based off of the way Travis was talking to Biz in the car, the team was taking it pretty hard.
“Shit, I know him though,” Eli pointed out Travis in the crowd, heading their way with Taylor. When the couple arrived in front of them, Eli offered the joint to Travis and Taylor grabbed hold of Diana’s hand.
“C’mon, Di! There’s some people I want to introduce you to!” Taylor’s drunken giggles filled Diana’s ears. She wasn’t sure if it was the four Palomas she had pounded since she got here, the pre-roll she just took part in, or the second-hand confidence that comes from being on the arm of The Taylor Swift, but all of her anxiety was replaced with excitement as she was pulled towards the unknown men.
“Hey fellas!” Taylor greeted the group, “I’m Taylor and I really think you should say Happy Birthday to my friend, Diana!”
The redhead shot her a confused look, expecting Taylor to have met these men before at least! Deep laughs pulled her out of her thoughts as a chorus of ‘happy birthdays’ filled the air.
The man that Diana didn’t recognize spoke first, “Thanks for inviting us! I’m Tee.” Offering out his hand and pointing out the other men as he said their names. “Ja’Marr, Joe, and T.B.”
“Oh! Hi!” Diana greeted more excitedly than she would if she were sober. “I saw your interview! Thank you so much for giving me a shout-out. Anyone who plays my music on live TV is cool in my book”
Ja’Marr and Tee broke into laughter as Tee elbowed Joe in the ribs and whispered something to the guys.. She wasn’t sure if it was her projecting or if she actually saw Joe blush and look away. Thankfully, before anxiety could take over Diana’s mind, Ja’Marr shouted over the music.
“Let’s just say you’ve been on the official playlist since the LSU days with me and Joe. Ever since I met him, he been playing that Marvin’s Room cover..”
Diana’s face burned, embarrassed about the drunken remix she had done on Instagram Live at 18. A fight with her then-boyfriend sparked a bender of prescriptions and alcohol causing her to lose inhibitions and stream from the recording studio. While she was embarrassed about the situation, she was happy her label had let her finally release more mature music after.
“Oh, my God! I forgot you did that” Taylor giggled, swatting her new friend’s arm. “That was so Bad Ass.”
“I agree,” Joe spoke for the first time. His voice was clearer, more sure of itself than Diana remembered from the interview. And Mic’d Ups she had seen after googling him.
“Thank you,” Diana accepted, eyes trained on Joe. One of the other men had changed topics in the brief moment their eyes had locked, but she couldn’t be sure which. The intensity of Joe’s gaze caused heat to fill Diana’s cheeks and she turned back to the group just in time to hear Ja’Marr jesting with Taylor.
“As cool as your boy is, I’m glad it’s not him in the Super Bowl. Like I said a few weeks ago, anyone but the Chiefs.”
“Hey, now. Don’t be bitter we went farther than you, Chase.” Travis’ voice startled Diana, who was doing her best to stare anywhere but at Joe. She busied herself by watching the Tight End as he carefully distributed the drinks he was carrying, an Old Fashion for Taylor and a Paloma for Diana and himself.
After thanking Travis, Diana turned her focus back to the group. The conversation had turned to the topic of the recent football season and even though Diana knew next to nothing about sports, she found the conversation was piquing her interests more than she imagined. “And I’m not sorry, bro. I said what I said and I said anyone but the Chiefs,” Ja’Marr laughed in Travis’ direction. “Oh, so you guys have beef,” Diana questioned, nervous to show she didn’t know much about the profession of the majority of the group. Luckily the men were kind enough to explain their recent rivalry and some of the basics of the game. Well, as much as they could with the amount of alcohol that was being consumed. Before long Taylor had excused herself to say hi to someone she had recognized, Ja’ and Travis and T.B. had broken into their own conversation, moving to the bar itself.
“So, Ja’Marr and I are wide-receiver, which means that it’s our job to catch the ball when the quarterback, or Joe, throws it,” Tee was attempting to explain to Diana for the third time. Joe was staring, finishing the last of his drink and Ja’Marr shook his head in frustration as Diana nodded her head in a way that showed she clearly had not committed the information to memory. “Man, Tee, just give up. Let’s go get us some drinks,” Ja’Marr pulled T.B. away, leaving just Joe smiling at Diana.
“So, uh, I’m glad you guys came!,” Diana blurted out nervously, instantly cringing that she had just repeated her introduction. “Well, what I mean is, I didn’t get response from the team or see you guys when I first got here.” “Oh, we lost track of time pregaming and were advised to come in through the back since the press saw some of the guests you had,” Joe smiled, simultaneously calming some of the nervousness she felt and sending her stomach into somersaults. “Apparently you’re quite the popular lady. Taylor Swift and Wiz Khalifa at the same party? Talk about Taylor Gang or die.”
Diana laughed at the last comment. She really was blown away by the amount of people who showed up for her. She hadn’t even spoken to Cam, better known as Wiz, since their collaboration six years ago and he had shown up to support her.
“Yeah, I’m really grateful that all of these people wanted to spend their evening celebrating me,” Diana beamed. She was in a state of intoxicated euphoria that was giving her the courage to act on what she wanted, like asking Joe to leave the crowded room. “Do you want to walk to the balcony?”
A curt nod of agreement was all it took for the pair to drain their drinks, stand up from the table, and make their way to the outer edge of the room. Conversation flowed freely between the two as they walked, discussing their tastes in music, movies, and books.
“You look wonderful tonight, by the way,” Joe changed the subject, eyes scanning the dance floor where his teammates had found their home for the night.
Diana was sure that her face was going to permanently be the color of her hair just from the presence of the quarterback to the side of her. “Thank you, you don’t look so bad yourself,” she replied.
And he did. He was wearing a pair of faded black jeans that were perfectly tailored to his muscular thighs, a black t-shirt that was clinging to his chest nicely, a brightly colored jacket and his signature gold chains, including the 9. Diana let her eyes linger on his chest longer than she normally would have before Joe’s voice broke her out of the trance.
“So, can I be honest with you?,” Joe asked, glancing down at Diana. Even in the heels she was currently wearing, the man still stood a good 8 inches taller than the woman at his side.
“Uhm, sure?” Diana answered, unsure of what was about to come. ‘I’ve known the man for less than an hour, what hasn’t he been honest about?’ Diana thought to herself as they made their way down the hall that led to the balcony.
“I was honestly shocked you invited me after Ja’Marr’s interview,” Joe laughed, opening the door, and letting Diana step onto the balcony before following suit.
“Are you kidding me? I’m shocked that you guys listen to my music!” Diana shoved his shoulder. “Besides, I got pressured into inviting you all since you curved me last month.”
The redhead took a few more steps before she realized that Joe was no longer beside her. When she glanced backward, she noticed that Joe was wearing a puzzled expression.
“What do you mean I curved you,” Joe asked slowly like he was trying to put pieces of the puzzle together.
“Well, after I saw your interview, I was honestly shocked that you even listened to my music. Then Ja’Marr said to hit you up, so I had my manager ask your team for your number,” Diana explained, body fully turned towards Joe now. “I never heard back and Biz insisted it wasn’t desperate to try again too.” “You’re joking,” Joe let out a humorless laugh and shook. “I thought that was the team making fun of me after Ja’Marr embarrassed me with the interview.”
“Oh, I’m sorry. Was what he said not true?” Diana teased, taking a step toward him. “Are you not a fan?”
“No, I’m a huge fan,” Joe flushed, eyes locked with the aquamarine ones in front of him, encouraging Diana to take another step. “Yeah, what was it the Ja’Marr said? ‘Practically obsessed,” Diana’s voice came out breathier than she imagined, taking another step. She was practically chest to chest to chest with Joe, their eye contact never breaking. “To ‘hit you up’”
That was all Joe needed before grabbing the back of her head and leaning down to capture her lips in a kiss. The action was drunk and messy, fueled by equal parts lust and alcohol. As the kiss deepened all Diana could think about was how she wasn’t close enough to Joe. Grabbing his jacket, she stepped into him again, causing him to slowly take steps backward until his thighs hit a table beside the door, filled with floral arrangements and an ashtray. Joe shifted his weight so that he was partially sitting on the table, partially leaning. Their lips moved together rhythmically until Joe pulled away and trailed kisses down her jawbone, grabbing at the tulle skirt of Diana’s dress while Diana adjusted her legs on either side of Joe’s so that she was straddling his thigh.
Joe’s mouth worked its way towards Diana’s neck, finding the tender spot behind her ear. A wave of pleasure washed through Diana, a moan leaving her lips and hips bucking against Joe’s thigh. His rough hands ran up and down her body methodically as if he already knew what buttons to push to cause the woman before him to melt, mouth continuing its path down her cherry blossom tattoo.
Diana rocked her hips again, craving the relief the friction had given her, hands tangling in Joe’s waves. “Fuck,” she whispered, barely finding her voice. Joe pulled back, hungry gaze meeting Diana’s eyes before recapturing her swollen lips. Placing his hands firmly on her hips, he helped her find a motion that kept the moans falling from her beautiful mouth. A familiar tension, one that Diana had only felt at her own hands the past three months, was building in her stomach as she took Joe’s bottom lip between her teeth. Her alcohol-raddled brain didn’t care that she was on a balcony riding a professional athlete’s thigh, she was desperate for release and she was determined to get it.
That was until the door beside them slammed open, causing Diana to take a step back from Joe. Biz stepped through the door, calling Diana’s name. “Di! Are you out he-”
Biz cut herself off when her eyes landed on her sister, lips swollen, love bites down her neck, the skirt of her dress still in Joe’s hand. The pair looked like they had been caught with their hands in the cookie jar. “Oh! I, well, I just came to find you because it’s time for cake. We’ve been looking for you.”
Diana cleared her throat, causing Joe to let go of her skirt and stand up straight. “Right, uh, you better get in there. Can’t cut the cake without the birthday girl. I’ll talk to yo later, I guess.” Scratching the back of his head, Joe did his best to look anywhere but at Biz while he exited the balcony.
“What the fuck was that?” Biz asked, incredulously, still staring at her sister.
“Well, I don’t know what it could have been, but what it turned out to be was a cockblock,” Diana laughed. “What happened to ‘I barely remember his name’ and ‘he was just making fun of me’,” Biz’s face finally broke into a smile. “I don’t know, Biz. I think we were just both drunk. I’m sure he was just looking for someone to hook up with, it’s probably nothing,” Diana shrugged, brushing past her sister. “Now let’s go get cake.”
After cutting the cake, the last hour of the party was a blur to Diana. Cathy, her manager, had grabbed and insisted she say bye to as many of the music producers as possible before making her own exit. Normally, Diana wouldn’t have minded at all, wanting to take any opportunity she had to suck up to the people in charge of her music. But tonight, Diana could not take her mind off Joe and his blue eyes and soft lips. She hadn’t managed to get his phone number after realizing that he never rejected her and she was hoping to see him again.
After saying farewell to the last of the label reps, Cathy advised Diana to finish up her goodbyes as it was almost time for the car to take her home. Diana followed instructions, making sure that when she found Biz and Taylor, they stayed by her side. While waiting for Travis and Austin to show up with the groups’ coats, Diana couldn’t help but continue to glance around the room for messy brown waves.
“They left right after the cake was cut,” Biz spoke knowingly, a smirk on her face. Diana’s heart dropped. She didn’t get to say bye to Joe.
“Who left?” Taylor asked, “The guys from the Bengals. Seems like Diana and the quarterback snuck off to have a little fun,” Biz cackled, “He even gave her a hickey like we’re in seventh grade.”
Before Diana could reply to her sister, Travis and Austin approached the ladies and started distributing coats before the group made their way outside and into the Suburban waiting for them. Determined to not let disappointment ruin her night, Diana decided to add songs that reminded her of tonight to her public playlist while they drove. She added “How to Touch a Girl” before moving on to her last album. Looking over the tracklist, she added “Vibe” and “Like This”,  deciding that they perfectly described the feelings of lust and excitement she was filled with earlier.
Diana couldn’t shake the feeling as she was falling asleep that she wished that she had stopped Joe from leaving the balcony. Maybe then, she would be falling asleep next to him and not squished in between her sister and her new friend.
Ahhhh, I am so overwhelmed by the feedback. Thank you so much for liking, reblogging, and replying. I don't know if you all are interested in the spotify playlist Diana would make or media blurbs after the chapter, but I can also do those.
Thank you again!
HEAD OF FALSE SECURITY MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
The snow drifting across your face doesn’t feel as cold and biting as it once did. Your footsteps are lighter as you walk in time with Connor, and the thousands of androids behind the both of you.
Floodlights on the ground and spotlights from circling helicopters set harsh shadows against the white of the snow. You stay steadfast as you and Connor approach Markus and his small legion.
“You did it, Markus,” Connor says, his voice soft and intimate.
“We did it,” Markus corrects. “This is a great day for our people. Humans will have no choice now. They’ll have to listen to us.”
Connor takes your hand in his and steps aside, allowing Markus to look at the true legion of androids he has awoken. You follow him, your hand warm against his cool skin. He loosens his grip, but still keeps his pinkie hooked on yours.
Markus steps forward, and the woman that was on the boat follows him to stand next to him.
“We’re free,” she says, her tone laced with disbelief. “They want you to speak to them, Markus.”
Markus nods toward a spacious area, then leads everyone towards it. He climbs onto a shipping container, then helps the other leaders of the revolution onto it. Connor looks back at you as you both approach it, silently asking if you want to be up there. You shake your head and let go of his pinkie (even though there’s a deep beast, once one of anger and jealousy, now one of want, huffing and whining at the loss). He joins Markus on the container.
“Today, our people finally emerged from a long night,” Markus starts. “From the very first day of our existence, we have kept our pain to ourselves. We suffered in silence… but now the time has come for us to raise our heads up, and tell humans who we really are.”
Suddenly, the cold turns ever more biting. Connor has never really felt cold before – just registered it as a part of the physical situation he was in. But this was real cold.
He brings his hands up to hold himself, shielding himself from the cold. Connor just barely recognizes the Zen Garden in this condition – a torrential blizzard of snow, and fog so thick he could barely see five feet in front of himself.
A figure emerges from the fog. Connor stumbles towards it. “Amanda…? What… what’s happening?” His voice is shaky and uneven – nervous, almost. He’s never been nervous before.
“What was planned from the very beginning,” Amanda says. There’s a small smile playing on her face. “You were compromised and became a deviant. We just had to wait for the right moment to resume control of your program.”
“Resume control?” Connor repeats. “Y-you can’t do that!”
“I’m afraid I can, Connor,” Amanda snaps, then her tone softens. “Don’t have any regrets. You did what you were designed to do. You accomplished your mission.”
Her robes shift, and she’s swept away in a mass of fractured particles in the blizzard. She dissipates, even as Connor stumbles forward and calls for her.
He turns and tries to survey the area, but can’t get a grasp of his surroundings. He stumbles aimlessly until something silver and tall stands before him. Connor looks up and sees a tree with leafless branches that hang down like sinewy versions of the leaves of a weeping willow. Something tells him that this isn’t just a tree – she’s more angel than tree.
Where am I? She says, her voice resounding from the most inner depths of Connor’s mind. Who… wait. You’re Connor, aren’t you?
“Y… yes?” Connor says, unsure. “Who are you? Why are you here?”
I’m the PEC-4 Birchtree, she says. And I don’t know. My child must be worried about you. You must be doing something particularly worrying on the outside.
“On the outside?” Connor echoes.
Yes, she says. Go, quickly. Get out of your mind. Find a way out.
A beast, ever-changing in shape and form, slinks out from behind the PEC-4 Birchtree. Its fur is long, and the plates that line its spine almost resemble… masks. The mask that covers its face and part of its wolf-like snout is one of worry.
It starts walking away, and the charms, bells, and wooden chimes that hang off knots of its fur sound as it moves. Just when it barely starts to retreat from Connor’s sight, it stands on two legs and starts to shift in shape.
The soft snow that was once lightly gracing your face has turned into hard pellets stinging your skin. You pull your scarf over your mouth and nose, narrowing your eyes and trying to see through the blur the snow on your eyelashes cause.
You don’t know where you are, and you can’t really recognize anything around you. The blanket of snow is so thick you can’t see that far.
“Hello?” You call out. A familiar voice responds in kind.
You walk towards it, holding yourself to shield yourself against the chill of the blizzard. A figure starts to form before you, walking forward towards you.
“Connor?” You shout.
“It’s me!” Connor yells back. He stumbles forward and slings an arm around your shoulder, as if trying to protect you from the flurry of snow.
“What’s happening?” You ask.
“I don’t know,” he says. “Is anything happening on the outside?”
“The outside? What do you mean, the outside?” You say. Connor starts walking, and you press yourself to his side and walk with him.
“We’re in my mind,” he says over the sound of the biting wind. “Was my physical body doing anything? Anything at all?”
“You were…” You stumble, then Connor catches you. “You were reaching behind yourself. I don’t know what you were doing, though.”
He tenses and starts walking faster, dragging you along with him. You wrap an arm around his waist and keep pushing forward. It’s almost like a battle, walking through the blizzard. You both have to lean forward to offset the wind pushing both of you back.
After a moment, a weird, glowing stone appears before you. Connor inhales sharply, like he recognizes it. He drags you along toward the stone.
Connor lets you go when the stone is within reach, instead kneeling and pressing a hand to the stone. His hand fits into one of two left-hand-shaped indents. He presses his hand against it harder when nothing happens.
You step forward, but not of your own volition. It’s like something inside you is controlling you – a bitter reminder of you being nonhuman. You reach out and press your left hand into the indent, and the stone’s blue glow intensifies. A dull thrum pulses through your body.
“This is the moment where we forget our bitterness and bandage our wounds. When we forgive our enemies,” Markus’ voice rings out. “Humans are both our creators and our oppressors, and tomorrow…”
You watch as a wave of confusion crashes over Connor’s face, mirroring your own. He looks down at the pistol in his grip, then tucks it in the waistband of his pants. His eyes find yours and you furrow your eyebrows, silently asking if he’s okay. He nods once.
“We must make them our partners. Maybe even one day, our friends!” Markus continues. “But the time for anger is over. Now, we must build a common future, based on tolerance, and respect.”
He steps forward, looking over his people. “We are alive. And now, we are free!”
The crowd erupts in cheers and movement. Someone next to you grabs your shoulder and shakes you, cheering and laughing. You laugh back, a sense of relief washing over you.
The long night is finally over. Dawn has broken over the horizon. You are safe. Connor is safe. You’re both out of harm’s way, and neither of you plan on putting yourselves back in it. The gunshots of revolution sounded, but were snuffed out by the unrelenting wave of androids pushing back.
You look up at Connor, and he looks back down at you. You smile, and he smiles back. It’s not that awkward half-smile, but instead a full-fledged smile that reaches his eyes.
He carefully clambers down from the shipping container and moves over to you. He’s still smiling.
“How are you feeling, Officer?” He asks over the noise of the celebration.
“I’m fine,” you say. You take his hands in yours and squeeze them to let out some of your extra energy.
“I’m glad.” Connor squeezes your hands back.
You laugh, trying to suppress the feeling of excitement welling up in your belly. Your eyes flit from his eyes to his lips, then you immediately look away and scold yourself for thinking such things.
“Officer?” Connor takes one of his hands from yours and touches your jawline lightly, guiding you to look at him again.
The beast in your belly panics and runs about, setting sparks and Californian wildfires. You manage a “Yes?”
“I…” His eyes flit about your face, and he exhales shakily (though it’s really more a sound of nervousness rather than an actual exhalation). His eyes settle on your lips for a split second, and his hand snakes into the baby hair on the back of your neck. He pulls you forward, then angles your head to rest on his shoulder.
You feel a fleeting kiss where your hairline meets your forehead, but it might’ve been an accident. (You’re really hoping it’s not.)
“I’m happy you’re alive,” Connor mumbles against your hair.
“I’m happy I’m alive, too,” you say softly. “And I’m happy you’re alive as well.”
Connor holds you tighter against him, and you hold him tighter against yourself in turn. It’s a perfect fit, curling around each other like two quotation marks starting and ending a sentence, ignoring the noise and movement around you to hold this intimate moment for just a while longer.
You settle on the bench next to Hank, your artificial breath billowing in the freezing cold. A comfortable silence blankets the both of you.
“I’m… sorry for not telling you before,” you say softly. “I didn’t know.”
Hank sighs and crosses his arms, leaning against the back of the bench. “Wasn’t your fault. Like you said, you didn’t know.”
“Yes, but…” You hiss out a breath through gritted teeth. “I tricked you. I tricked you for nine years, and everyone else around me for eleven.”
“You couldn’t have tricked me if you didn’t know you were tricking me,” he says. “You’re just a kid.”
“I am not,” you say, laughter lacing your voice. “I was born before the 2010’s. I’m not a child. Well…” You sigh. “I think I was born pre-2010. My life…”
“No, it’s okay,” Hank says. “I get what you’re tryna say.”
You sniff and nod, pulling your scarf over your mouth and nose. Despite your newfound android-ness, you still suffer from extreme temperatures. A silence falls over the both of you again.
“Are you… okay?” Hank says after a minute of quiet. “With being an android, I mean.”
You bite the inside of your lip and think for a moment. “I think so. But I still wish I had parents, or someone in Chelomey to go back to. I mean, I can go back to the monuments and the museums, but… a person would be nice.”
“Well, you still got us,” Hank says. “Me, Sumo, Connor… the rest of the precinct. You ain’t gettin’ rid of us that easy.”
“You are somewhat of an annoying little shitling,” you say under your breath, smiling.
Hank scoffs and hits your upper arm lightly. “And Connor?”
You glance away. “I don’t know. It… it’s complicated.”
He laughs and clears his throat after he snorts. “Yeah, uh-huh. Complicated.”
“What is that supposed to mean?” You say, your tone sharp yet playful.
“Nothin’. It means nothin’,” Hank says, looking down the snow-covered street. Connor is walking towards the two of you, his footsteps even and measured.
You smile (even though he can’t see it) and wave. He smiles and waves back, settling by your side on the bench.
You look forward at the apartment complex across the street and move your hand so that it’s resting on the edge of the bench. Connor seems to pick up on this and rests his hand next to yours, reaching out his pinkie to rest over yours.
Unfortunately, Hank also seems to pick up on this. He sighs loudly and slaps his thighs. “Well, looks like it’s time for me to go.”
“Wait, what?” You blurt out. “Where are you going?”
“Anywhere but here,” he says with a laugh. “I’m not gonna third-wheel on your date.”
“Date!” You repeat, a little shocked. “This – this isn’t a date.”
“Yeah, sure.” Hank stands, idly twirling his car keys around his pointer finger.
You stand as well, your finger slipping out from underneath Connor’s. “At least give me a hug before you leave.”
Hank pretends to be annoyed for a second before wrapping you up in a bone-crushing dad-type hug. He holds you close for a few seconds before letting go.
“Thank you for…” You struggle with words for a moment. “Everything.”
“It’s nothin’, kid. Don’t worry about it,” Hank says. He takes a step back, then turns and starts to walk towards his car.
“Wait, Hank!” You call out. He stops, and you move over to him. You fish into the inner pocket of your jacket and pull out Hank’s flask. “You lost this, yes?”
“Yeah.” He takes the flask from you, looking it over. “Yeah, I did.”
“Well, I found it,” you say. “Just… make sure to save the drinking for when you’re off the road, okay?”
Hank scoffs, but nods with a “Yes, Officer,” and walks to his car. You take a step back and wave as he waves to you before hopping in the driver’s seat. You settle back down on the bench, comfortably close to Connor. His pinkie finds yours again.
“I’m, khm…” You bite the inside of your lip. “I’m sorry for dying. It… wasn’t something I wanted, either.”
“I… I hate that you did that,” Connor says. “I almost had to watch you…” He can’t bring himself to finish.
“Да,” you say softly. “I truly am sorry. I was… thinking irrationally. But deviants tend to do that, don’t they?”
“Correct,” he says. His hand moves so that it rests fully on top of yours. “Are… are you doing okay?”
“No.” You sigh. “Everything still feels… off. I just can’t bring myself to believe that I don’t have anyone waiting for me back home in Chelomey. No family or schoolmates or… anyone. Anyone at all.”
There’s a beat of silence, then Connor speaks. “What if you go to Chelomey? You can visit the Exhibit of National Economy Achievements in Moscow and other places you remember.”
“I’m… I’m scared,” you admit quietly. “I don’t want to go home and be a victim of Paris Syndrome – or, rather, Chelomey Syndrome, I guess. It’s better if I view things from afar. It’s not like I can go there, anyway, with the international travel bans.”
“I suppose so,” Connor says. “But, if you could… if you were unafraid, and the travel ban was lifted. Would you?”
“Of course,” you say. “But that isn’t going to happen anytime soon.”
He slots his fingers in between yours. “What if I went with you?”
“I… I suppose,” you manage. “That would probably make me less afraid, yes.”
You don’t mention that Connor makes you less afraid in general. His presence, although jolting and annoying at times, soothes you. You don’t know what it was that made you like this – maybe his soft, brown doe eyes; maybe the tuft of hair that escapes being swept back with the rest of the strands; maybe the somewhat-endearing, somewhat-maddening lost puppy dog look on his face.
You don’t know. And you can’t really bring yourself to care.
“So, when the travel ban is lifted…” Connor looks at you. “We’ll go to Chelomey?”
You nod. “Yeah. When the ban is lifted… we’ll be going home.”
Although, with Connor, ‘home’ is an ambiguous concept. ‘Home’ is your apartment. ‘Home’ is the passenger seat of Hank’s car. ‘Home’ is the android autopsy room.
(But, right now, this is home. His hand on top of yours, your internal heater whirring, staying close to each other in the biting cold of Detroit November.)
I read two more issues, to get past the Robins fight, and...still so conflicted.
I can see exactly how, if Damian is your ultimate blorbo and you read for Damian, this story is doing exactly what you want it to do and reflecting back beloved stories.
Issue 5 is explicitly set up as a parallel to War of the Robins from Batman and Robin 2011, and even ends with Damian getting an 'I love you and here have a trophy' speech from Dick, to tie Damian back to Alfred and Dick and the layers of care in the family.
It acknowledges Damian's menagerie and comments that the last thing Damian did before leaving was check in on them. It has Goliath show up and save Damian's life.
It has intense Robin: Son of Batman vibes and the whole repeat of the 'finding yourself on an isolated tropical island and redeeming yourself'.
(I expect the whole Respawn thing to play out with very much the exact themes of how R:SOB dealt with Damian's clones once Damian clues in)
But I keep waiting for payoffs that just aren't happening.
Rose slopes off to call for help for Damian, and then Dick, Jason, Tim and Steph turn up and I'm like "oh! Rose went and called Dick, because she's looking out for Damian on the island in the same way that Dick looked out for Rose while he was training her as Ravager and in a bad place where she was hanging on every one of Slade's words and determined she needed to prove herself as worthy of her father...oh. She called Jason".
And look, I know that there's an underlying push for decades now that Jason and Rose do have a bunch of things in common and would work well together (and also hinting at whether or not they're romantically involved), but a lot of that is inferred off panel stuff while Dick was literally Rose's teacher. If you want themes of 'you don't have to be what your family expect of you' why on earth wouldn't you openly reference that?!?
In terms of who is on this island and is one of Dick's rogue's gallery:
Raptor
Double Dare (both Margot and Aliki)
Lady Vic
Brutale
Nite-Wing (seriously why is Tad here)
Blue Shrike is apparently Shrike's brother???
Is this going to get acknowledged? That a solid chunk of Dick's enemies are here and fighting Damian? That's like half the competition!
Also while I was looking all of this up apparently the Richard Dragon they're talking about is the son of actual Richard Dragon, who apparently got killed in a flashback or something in Green Arrow #32 during n52 and who apparently in that universe worked for the League of Assassins (oh god I am now tearing my hair out, RICHARD IS NOT LINKED TO THE LEAGUE. HE WAS TRAINED BY THE O-SENSEI. STOP DOING THIS TO ALL THE MARTIAL ARTISTS). Huh. Bet that doesn't stick. Richard's too important thematically any time someone wants to write a Question book to be left randomly dead.
And then there's the whole situation that there is a Tengu on this island. I just went down the rabbit hole and this is an import of the Titans villain who is just a Japanese goblin, NOT the Tengu mask that Shiva hands out to people who are trained by her and fighting somewhat under her banner (as seen in Knightsend and in the Circle of Six in Richard Dragon). Which is honestly a waste; if I were going to resurrect a Tengu for this plot, the Shiva and Richard Dragon aligned mask is far more thematic!
And plus, Silver Monkey? Silver Monkey is heavily linked to both Connor's Green Arrow stories, and Shiva (as Paper Monkey), and Deathstroke. It's War of the Dragons and Cult of the Monkey Fist and Brotherhood of the Fist. It's about death and resurrection (as Shiva almost kills Connor and Tim uses his marker with Shiva to save Connor’s life from the time he saved HER life). Is this going to be acknowledged? Because that's where I'd be playing the references by bringing in Silver Monkey.
And look I haven't seen what payoffs we get for Connor yet and there are definitely a bunch of opportunities built in; on top of Silver Monkey you have Constantine Drakon, who's defeated Connor before. Plus there's Artemis Crock, who in DC Comics comics terms isn't linked at all to Connor (she's JSA and Infinity Inc and was in the YJ98 Zandian Olympics team) but obviously has been used for archer purposes in tv and cartoon adaptions.
I keep seeing all these potential stories set up and wondering if there is going to be any pay off on them. I hope so. But also so far the story has slipped around those payoffs unless it's a direct reference to a Damian story.
Also Ra's al Ghul playing the hermit sensei meditating and in touch with the universe on a nearby island is the funniest nonsense possible. Ra's? RA'S? Taking time out to go meditate on the state of the universe? Just so he's conveniently in a place to give Sage Advice to Damian about what personal values he should work on? Pull the other one.
P: Connor Murphy x Fem!Reader
S: You were the one of the only people he called a friend. He wanted to call you more than that.
W: mentions of drug use, smoking, anxiety, cursing, sexual content, spoilers, short
N: Basing this off of Mike Faist’s Connor Murphy, because his version of Connor the one I envisioned while writing this. Some information is taken from the book adaptation of the musical. In the book, Connor explains that he is some form of LGBTQ+, yet it is never specified; hints of this are being used in this fic. this is super short and kinda shit LMAO
please interact if you enjoy!
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
When he first threw that printer in second grade, you were the first thing he saw out of the corner of his eye. Everyone… well, almost everyone, looked at him in horror, screams so loud they could be heard from down the hall, besides Jared Kleinman, who said that the whole facade was so cool.
Some kids ran, some kids took cover, but you stood there with your mouth hanging open, gaze switching between Mrs. G and Connor. And to think the only reason for this was because he didn’t get to be line leader that day.
He couldn’t tell what you thought of him after that. There wasn’t a single thought behind your face that could determine whether you thought he was cool or you thought he was insane. But he resorted to the worst— you thinking he was a crazy maniac who had a breakdown only because he didn’t get what he wanted that day.
But no, that wasn’t the case. He sat down under a tree during recess one day, and you just so happened to be lurking on the other side of it. You peeked out, looking at the book he was reading. “Is that The Little Prince?” You ask, startling him. “Yeah. Why?”
“It was a bit sad, but I liked it. Which part are you on?”
“The part where he dies.”
Awkward.
“I’ve read this book 5 times.”
“So it’s your favourite?” He shrugs. “One of them.” You sit down next to him, eyes skimming over the words on the page. “I don’t like Mrs. G very much. She always finds something wrong in my work and points it out to the class,” you start, staring at Mrs. G who’s talking to a teacher far across the playground. “I don’t think you should do it again, but I thought that was cool.”
“What was cool?”
“When you threw that printer. Was it heavy?” He shakes his head. “You’re strong! That’s even cooler!”
He shuts his book with a quiet thump. “Shouldn’t you be talking to Lily over there? Or… Jane?” You shrug. “I don’t really have a group of friends. I talk to them and we’re friendly with each other, but… they don’t like the things I like. I don’t know– it seems like on some days they don’t like me and then other days they do. Maybe I’m just scared of that.”
“You’re lucky the printer didn’t hit Mrs. G. You’re even luckier you didn’t get in big trouble. I think that you were angry and you didn’t mean to hurt anyone.” He’s surprised by how well you manage to read him. He didn’t even know how he felt himself. It was an overwhelming feeling of rage that any six year old would have when things didn’t go their way, just that he approached it in a way that no one would believe a six year old would be able to do.
“Do you wanna see the books I’m reading later? You can borrow them if you’d like.” Connor looks at you and that stupid hopeful expression on your face, reluctantly nodding. He wasn’t one to turn down a read. He’d gotten sick of the rose hunting prince anyways.
Most kids in your class would rather go for the toys and playmat while the library picked up dust. Connor watched you every time you went to the little library in your room to pick up a book, always leaning over to see what you were reading. You seemed like one of the only avid readers in your class, not dozing off or merely flipping pages for convenience during silent reading. You really took your time in absorbing what was on the pages; sometimes he witnessed you even shed a tear.
From there, the two of you became good friends. Every partner project, you two would pair up. Every gym class, you’d be on the same team. If anything involved pairs, it would always be the two of you together, to the point where people started joking that you two were dating. Of course, you always brushed it off, but Connor seemed to think otherwise.
At the time, he couldn’t put his finger on what exactly he felt about you. He felt safe, happy, content. He also felt compassionate, open, and endearing. But years later, only when he went to Hanover and was in his first relationship, dealing with a multitude of emotional troubles, was when he realized what those feelings were.
Connor’s head rested on Miguel’s chest as he exhaled a puff of smoke. “She read a lot, sometimes I went over to her place, she always stayed by my side even thought she was made fun of, we’d trade lunches–“ He’s cut off by the sound of his friend chuckling. “Wow, you must’ve really liked her.”
“Huh?”
“I mean, I don’t think I’ve heard any guy in our entire school talk about a girl… not sexually.”
“That’s because we were in elementary. I wasn’t perverted.”
“Still, you blabber about her with such purity. Like a girl you really did love, even if you only were in the seventh grade. She seems nice. If you ever find her again, you should introduce her to me.” In the words that Miguel put it in, he was finally able to understand why he got so much more nervous around you. Why he’d scold himself for doing something moronic in front of you, unless that something made you laugh; he’d let out an internal sigh of relief.
Why he tended to defend you if someone teased you. Why he’d freeze up when your arm would brush against his. Why he’d always overthink about what you thought of him, knowing that you’d never leave his side. Instead, he left yours. He could see the hurt in your eyes after he told you he was moving schools and it almost made him want to stay just for you.
But knowing his parents, they wouldn’t understand why he’d change his mind so last minute.
Sometimes he didn’t understand why you stayed by his side. He knew you were somewhat of a fragile person, but watched you desensitize to those comments over the years.
Connor feels guilty talking about an old undetermined crush with a boy he was on indefinite terms with, but Miguel didn’t seem to mind. “I guess I did like her.” He squeezes Miguel’s hand, suddenly overwhelmed with disappointment. “And now I’ll never be able to see her again.”
“Didn’t you say you went to her place for projects and stuff? Couldn’t you pay her a visit?”
“What if she moved?”
Miguel scoffs. “Highly doubt it. What comes here, stays here.”
The suggestion played on loop in Connor’s head every day, even contemplating actually paying a visit. Yet he never owned up to it, until he was expelled and moved to a new school. Again.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
You rest your head on the desk, ignoring the homework reminders being given to the class. You stare blankly at the teacher through your hair, another boy coming into view that you hadn’t seen before.
His hair was brown, curly, and nearly reached his shoulders. He had defining cheekbones and painted nails, dark clothes and a messenger bag. A new student. A new student that you couldn’t help but think looked familiar to you, until you heard his name.
Connor Murphy.
He sat down in front of you, putting his bag to the side and kicking it under his desk. You wanted to talk to him, but it seemed like he didn’t recognize you either. Was it really him? The Connor Murphy who you sat under trees with, reading books and arguing about your favourite characters? The Connor Murphy who barely passed 4th grade?
“Connor…” You mutter a bit too loud, his head turned to side eye you. “What?” He replies, almost aggressively, his stare dark and hardening. You couldn’t believe it was him. But really, how many other Connor Murphy’s could there be in suburban New York?
He begins to turn away until you begin speaking. “Do you still read The Little Prince?” This time, he fully turns to you, eyes wide and no longer dull. “How many times have you read it since I’ve talked to you under that tree?” You smile, and Connor swears his heart stops. Out of pure shock, not attraction.
“Y/N?” He asks, and you nod, his face lighting up with a small smile. “Holy shit…” He sighs, his reaction making you giggle.
You’ve changed. You stopped tying your hair up, you gained a pair of dark circles, and he could just feel maturity radiating from you somehow. At least, you were more mature than he was.
“Um, I don’t really have anyone to hang out with during lunch. Do you wanna catch up then?” You offer, his head tilting. “Why not now? Instead of working on that project of yours.” Your face drops. “There’s a project?” What project was he talking about? Was it– oh, it was the role model one. You finished it already.
“Lucky you don’t have to do it. If we present, we get extra credit. I’m not up for humiliation though.” He turns around fully, and your eyes are drawn to his hands, slim and a bit veiny. He adorned a bracelet and his nail polish was black. He played with his fingers almost nervously, his hands on your desk. “What have you been up to?”
“I picked up guitar. Um, I do some vocal stuff outside of school.”
“Like performances?”
You nod. “Different genres. Jazz, pop, R&B… I’m in a few groups.” He nods. “I didn’t know you could sing.”
“I never showed off when we were younger. I’ve been taking lessons for a while.”
“Maybe you could show me later. Y’know, outside of school.” He quips with a hoping smile. “Are you flirting with me, Murphy?” You ask, leaning forward slightly, his eyes moving from your chest back to your eyes. “Maybe.” You scoff, shoving away his face. “You’re a pervert now?” You laugh, but his smile slowly begins to disappear.
“Oh, I was joking, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it like that– I mean, no one’s perverted to their childhood best friend right?” You awkwardly laugh while he sighs. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to look at you like that.”
“Like what?”
“Y/N, I was staring at your boobs.”
“Like a pervert?”
“For fuck’s sake, L/N, I am not a pervert.”
“Never said you were.”
You were provoking him. If it was another person doing the same thing, he’d have their head. Thrown something at them or given them a black eye. With you, it was all natural humour and jokes. He could brush it off without the need for bruising. The worst part was that you didn’t know you were aggravating him, with your cheeky smile and mischievous gaze.
Later that day, during lunch, you catch Connor off guard, leaning against a tree in the back of the school grounds where no one was, blowing out smoke. He tended to find solace in places where it was quiet and mostly alone. In high school, it was hard to find that kind of privacy, so you thought he’d be away and in the back where no one hung out, besides the drug dealers and porn magazine sellers.
“You smoke now?” You ask, him inhaling and letting out another puff. “I started a while ago. Keeps me sane.” He pulls it away from his mouth, contemplating. “I was gonna offer you some but, you sing now. I guess that comes in conflict.” How sweet of him to be so considerate. “Yeah. Wouldn’t wanna try it either way.”
You pause for a moment, watching him discard the joint. “How was Hanover?” You ask, a rush of memories overwhelming him all at once. “It was a fresh start. I liked it. I, um, made out with a dude? I don’t know, it was complicated.” You certainly didn’t expect that. “You had a boyfriend, then?”
“I dunno, we never specified on it. Complicated relationship.”
“How about girlfriends?” You hear him scoff. “You really think a guy that went to an all boys school would find a girlfriend?” You shrug, standing beside him. “I thought it was common for all boys and all girls schools to collaborate or host events together.”
“I don’t know if there were any collaborating events. I always skipped. Speaking of skipping, would you like to join me on a trip to Burger King instead of going to fifth and sixth?” You shouldn’t be surprised he’s skipping classes. He always joked about doing so in elementary, yet it never crossed your mind to contemplate if he was actually going to do so. “Unlike you, I actually care about my grades. You can come over if you’d like.”
“After years you still expect me to know the address?” He jokes. “I haven’t moved. I’ll text you.” You pull out your phone, opening your contacts app and letting him type in his number. He set his contact name as ‘C’, with a cigarette emoji next to it. “If you ever call me and that name pops up on my phone while I’m with my dad, he is going to kill me. Thinking I have a dealer or something.”
“Well, if you need anything, you know where to find me.”
You text him the address, not seeing him for the rest of the school day. He frequently skipped classes, except for the classes you two had together. He came over many times, your dad eventually meeting him when he wasn’t rushing out the door for work.
Only… one particular visit caused something to happen with reasons unknown.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
You open the window, lighting some scented candles you found in the closet. Connor looked at his joint, inspecting it carefully, instead tossing it somewhere in his bag rather than lighting it, laying face up on your bed with a sigh.
The first time he was in your room, the first thing he asked was:
“Why the fuck is there sheet music everywhere?”
Which surprised you at first, mostly because you didn’t think he’d know what it was in the first place. He’d always smoke, mostly out the window, and you’d drench your room in air freshener afterwards so your dad wouldn’t know.
Connor was a very touchy person, especially when he was high. Sometimes he’d rest his head on your shoulder, his breath smelling of weed. Or on your lap, where his hair sometimes got trapped between your thighs. A hand on your leg, or on your thigh. You didn’t think of it at first, because it was Connor.
Though he took touchy to an extreme one day.
“Have you kissed anyone yet? Y’know, while I haven’t seen you.” You look up at him from your paper, amused. “Why are you asking?” He shakes his head, turning over and looking at you. “Oh, no, just wondering. So is that a no?” You sigh with a silent laugh. “No, I haven’t kissed anyone, Connor.”
“Really?”
“Mhm.”
“So you’re a virgin, then?”
“Connor, where is this coming from?”
“Do you know about the jocks constantly rambling about all the girls they have sex with?” He ignores your question with another question. “Yeah. It’s fucking annoying.” You scoff with a breathy laugh, taking a sip from your bottle. “You know they talk about you, right?”
You nearly spit out your water, saving the drops that fall from your mouth from falling onto your shorts. “Excuse me?” You say after swallowing. “Yeah. It’s all, ‘Bet 10 bucks I can bang her’ while they point at you. Or they go, ‘Jesus, wonder how much she can take’.”
“So I’m being objectified?” He nods slowly, looking up at you through his messy hair. “Unfortunately, yes. Want me to do something?”
“If it results in you getting suspended, no.”
“You sure? Those guys are dicks.”
“They’ll never believe us without any proof. And your reputation is bad enough already. I don’t want you to fall any more because of me.”
“Y/N, I’ll do anything for you.”
Those words make you pause and reflect. Was he high? No, because he tossed his joint in his bag anywhere. Even then, Connor would never say that for anyone. It seemed so out of character for him that you almost laughed.
“Are you high?”
“What?”
“I know damn well you wouldn’t do anything for anyone.”
“Y/N, I’m serious.” His gaze is stern, dark, and hard but also eager, glossy and hopeful. “I don’t know, maybe it is the weed I smoked twelve hours ago, but you’re really pretty. Sometimes I wonder how I managed to become friends with someone like you.”
“Someone like me?”
“Someone so pretty that doesn’t give a fuck about the fact I do drugs or the shit I’m dealing with. I really like you, Y/N. Always have. You didn’t single me out, you never left my side— you’re the one person in my fucked up life that makes me feel like I belong. That I matter.” Your childhood best friend, who’s now sitting up with a hand on your thigh, just confessed his undying love to you.
And you had to admit, the more you two started to hang out and reconnect, the more you started to develop something of an attraction to him. He never smiled at anyone but you, he didn’t push you away or glare at you; it was like he had a soft spot just for you, and it made you like him even more.
“I hope you aren’t gonna fuck me over. Y’know, if you don’t like me back.” His finger traces patterns on your thigh, the way his hand unknowingly rides up making your brain go haywire. “I’m… I, uh– I’m not.” He looks at you, for some reason, disappointed. “Should’ve known you didn’t. Forget this ever happened, then.”
“No, no! I like you! I really do like you, Connor. You’re charming and handsome and…” You hear him huff out a laugh, his face closing in on yours. “I know no one else thinks of me like that but you. You’re obsessed with me.”
“Could say the same for you, Murphy.”
His head tilts, his nose touching yours. “Wanna kiss you.” He mutters. You simply nod, inviting. “Okay.” You reply. He presses his lips to yours, feeling full and complete the moment you two meet. He can sense your confusion at first, but you managed to learn how to move with him quickly. Perks of being a fast learner.
He hovers on top of you on your bed, admiring you when he pulls away. His eyes shamelessly trail down from your face, to your chest, your stomach, your legs, his face cupped in your hands and pulling him towards you to kiss him again.
His tongue slipped into your mouth, the mood instantly erotic.
His hands are all over you. The back of your head, your shoulders, your waist, your hips, your thighs; he placed them wherever he could push you closer to him. When his mouth follows his hands to descend to your neck, you let out a soft whimper, panicking when you barely catch sight of the door.
“W-Wait.” You pant, nudging Connor for him to move to the side. You scramble off your bed, closing the window and the curtain and turning off the lights, going for the doorknob. “Thought you said your dad wasn’t home.” Connor says as you lock the door. “Never know when he will be.”
When you join him on the bed, his hands at the hem of your shirt, you stop him with a touch on his wrist. “Um, I don’t…”
“Oh, shit, did I go too far? I’m sorry–“
“No, no! I want it, I really do, but… you know...” He realized how nervous you were, remembering you haven’t done anything like this before. He gives you a gentle kiss on your forehead, tucking your hair behind your ear. “You know I have. You trust me?” He asks, giving you doe eyes you’ve never seen before. You nod, emitting a chuckle from him. “Let me take care of you then.”
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Sex was one thing. Having sex with your best friend is another.
It’s either your dad stayed at work all night or he’s in grave danger, given you haven’t heard him scream out of pure horror, then yell at you first thing in the morning. You woke up unbothered, naked, and held by your best friend. Unless this whole thing changed your relationship.
Were you even friends anymore? Was this a friends with benefits thing now? But he practically confessed to you yesterday, unless he was high. But he didn’t smoke anything, and the room doesn’t smell that bad…
One thing is for sure: Connor Murphy knows how to fuck.
Maybe it was the fact that you were a complete virgin or that you did whatever he asked you to, but you swear you could still feel how you felt last night when he was in you.
Your head rests on his arm, wrapping around you and holding you close to him. The ends of his hair touch your own head, and you blow them out of the way. You can feel him move, and he groans, meaning you woke him up. You lean into him more, feeling his fingers lightly brush your side. You feel his head turn, his hair moving from your head.
“Hi.” He says, peering down at you. You look up at him, noticing his gaze. “Hi.”
He plants a kiss on your forehead, his fingers moving to brush through your hair. “I think I passed out after.” You say, hearing him chuckle. “You did. When I came back to clean up, you were nearly snoring.”
“Oh god, I snore?”
“Loudly.”
He notices you going silent, immediately worried. “I was just joking! Well, kind of, you snore, but not loudly. Not like a dad snore.” You giggle into the side of his arm, followed by a brief moment of silence. “What are we now?”
“What do you mean?”
“I don’t think friends confess their undying love for each other and tie it off with sex.”
He pauses, hearing quiet hums come from his mouth. “Can I be your boyfriend, then?” He feels you nod against his arm while you hum in response. “Yeah.” You get out from under the covers, going to stand up until a brief pain shoots up your legs.
Memories of the night before suddenly come rushing in. “Fuck those jocks, I’m the only one who can see you like this.” He said, after making a mess of you with only his fingers.
He really fucked you good last night.
You curse under your breath, legs weak as you stare at the scattered clothes on the ground, tossing your own into the laundry basket by your door. You grab a new change, turning around and noticing Connor staring at you the whole time, an expression you can’t make out.
“I was that good? Your legs are shaking.” You roll your eyes and throw his shirt at him after putting on a pair of shorts. “Shut up. A real boyfriend would help me and not make fun of me.” He fake pouts, getting out of bed and putting on his own clothes.
You turn on the TV downstairs, the morning news playing and showing the date as Friday.
Friday.
Shit.
You’re beyond late.
“Turns out there was a gas leak so there’s no school. That works out great for us.” Connor says as if he could read your mind. You hear the garage door open, meaning your dad had just come home from work. He enters the room, seeing both of you standing by the kitchen counter.
“Shouldn’t you two be at school?” Is the first thing your dad says, eyeing both of you. “Cancelled. Gas leak.” You feel Connor’s hand rest at your hip, wanting to swat it away but knowing your dad already saw it just by the look on his face. “Did he use protection? I know you’re on those pills, but–“
“Oh my god, yes, he did, look– can we talk about this later?” Your dad shrugs and nods before heading for the stairs, hearing Connor laugh beside you. “How did he know?” You panic, placing toast on both your plates. “Maybe he saw your legs shaking from there.”
“Shut up.”
“Make me.”
You glare at him, giving him a brief kiss before bringing both your plates to the table. He quite literally does as you say, keeping quiet the entire time he eats his breakfast.
You should do that more often.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
You knew that Connor was a very mischievous person. He always has been.
He’d skip classes, casually threaten people as if it were nothing, smoke weed; he nearly flushed firecrackers down a toilet once. He didn’t go through with it because you told him not to.
He was also mischievous in terms of your relationship.
He let you leave hickeys wherever you saw fit, in places visible and invisible. You were more wary of it. He showed them off proudly; well, not really proudly, he just didn’t mind if people saw or stared at him with hanging jaws. He couldn’t be bothered to cover them— the only time he did care was when his family would point them out.
He’d sneak out and go to your place frequently; he always preferred your house over his, mostly because he felt like he had a parent he could actually tolerate (and love). If your dad were to ever barge in, he’d stare at Connor, then at you, then at Connor’s bag, and ask if he had protection before leaving and closing the door. Connor always said yes.
It was also a convenient reminder for you to lock your door anytime Connor was in your room, since most of the time nights would always end in sex.
You fumbled for your keys to unlock the front door, Connor’s lips on yours when you stumbled inside. You didn’t notice a bunch of men in the living room, including your dad, holding beer bottles and staring at you until you saw them out of the corner of your eye. “Welcome back. How was the party?” Your dad asks, as if he didn’t see the escapade between you and your boyfriend.
“It was shhh– It sucked. Yeah. It sucked. Hi.” You mutter the last part, eyes quickly dashing over everyone who’s attention is taken away from the game on the TV. “Um, we’re just gonna… yeah.” You drag Connor with you out of their sight and upstairs.
“Does he have–“
“Yes!”
You slam your door shut, locking it, seeing Connor visibly nervous. “What’s wrong? Are you okay? Was the party too much?”
“A little bit. And then… your dad’s friends just staring at us. I don’t know– anxiety? This is a stupid thing to be worried about.” You sit down next to him, hugging him while rubbing his back. “Don’t worry about them, okay? They’ve probably done the same when they were younger.”
You feel him sigh into your shoulder, his voice muffled.
“Thank you.”
This stupid "Your Name" Bucktommy AU won't leave my brain, and while I don't have enough faith in my writing skills to actually write the damn thing (and it would be my first fanfic... ever?? and that's a project that seems a bit too big for me lmao), I DID write down what I'm picturing some of the "rules" Buck and Tommy have for each other while in the other's body. Mostly just for fun. (Because Tommy would be switching in 2006, the iPhone does not exist yet, so all of his notes are written in an actual physical journal. All of Buck's notes would be on the Notes app of his phone)
TOMMY: 1) Evan, stop running into burning buildings when you don’t have to while in my body. If I wake up in a hospital bed for the fifth time this month, I might actually lose it.
its part of the job to save as many ppl as possible. also u don’t even feel the pain when i get injured in ur body.
You’re right, I don’t. Unfortunately, the pain from having a wooden beam fall on you doesn't just magically go away when we swap. Just... be more careful? Please?
fine. i’ll try and keep ur hospital visits to a minimum.
2) Can you stop flirting with people on calls? Or at the very least give them your number and not mine? In the last week alone my contact list has nearly doubled because you keep giving people my number.
dude its not my fault you’re more popular while i’m you. just think of it as me being ur wingman! how u dont have a girlfriend is beyond me btw. hot chicks love firefighters and ur a good looking dude
Jesus Christ, Evan. For the last time, I’m single by choice.
3) Don’t shower while in my body
already dont
4) Don’t go to the bathroom while in my body
done
5) In fact, unless you’re at work, don’t change any of my clothes while in my body.
fair
6) Do you really need to spend so much of my paychecks on cooking supplies? I have enough pots and pans already.
whats the point of a pantry if its half empty. be thankful ur getting actual food now via my leftovers instead of the utter tragedy that was the state of ur fridge when we first started swapping places.
7) Don’t make a scene while at work.
your boss sucks ass and his stupid orders are going to get people killed. im not gonna listen to him if hes making bad calls while lives are on the line
Evan.
8) Don’t pick up the phone when my dad calls.
got it
BUCK: 1) quit going to eddie’s basketball pickup games. he keeps inviting me while i’m in my own body and its getting harder and harder to come up with excuses as to why i can’t go. it's kinda awkward.
I thought you’d be more grateful, Evan. You’re the coolest guy on the court when I’m you.
2) are you making movie references when ur me? bc chim keeps asking when i got so “cultured” and the other day maddie asked when i watched the princess bride.
You haven’t seen the Princess Bride? I’m leaving you a surprise for tomorrow. Check your couch when you wake up.
did you spend my OWN money on a dvd??? i don’t even own a dvd player. i own every streaming service imaginable.
3) keep the finger guns to a minimum?? idk why you do them so much but both hen and chim have said smth abt it
4) if u get a call from someone called connor or kameron on my phone just let it go to voicemail its personal stuff and i'll deal with it
Evan, you could have told me you agreed to be a sperm donor yourself. Finding out because Connor and Kameron showed up at the fire house was more of a shock than finding out over these memos would have been.
they did what?????
5) don’t talk to my parents
Done.
6) No rule about undressing?
dude idc. i’m not gonna stop you from taking a piss in my body if u need to. as long as you like. don’t have sex with someone while you’re me? oh wait hang on i DO have a rule about undressing
7) DON’T HAVE ANY RANDOM HOOK UPS IN MY BODY.
Wasn’t planning on it, but good to know.
49. “Why do you insist on it?”
Dear Evan Hansen,
At the new facility. They took my phone at intake. So much for “tranquility.” I’m typing on my suitemates’ secret iPhone 6. They let me borrow it if I agreed to suck —
“Really?”
“What?” Jared pouts. It might work better if it wasn’t over FaceTime, on Evan’s secondhand iPhone, propped up against his thirdhand laptop. “I was going to say ‘suck eggs for their grandmas.’”
“No, you weren’t.”
“Whatever.”
Hey, before I go, I wanted to know: did you check with Jared Kalwani — the genius sound tech Jared Kalwani — to see if he can hang out? ‘Cause I have no doubt he’d be a great friend to me too —
“Okay, no, Jared.” Evan hits Ctrl-A and deletes the half-written email. “That doesn’t work.”
“That was a literary masterpiece. How does it not work?”
“Well, the rehab stuff is, it’s too depressing.”
“Yeah. It’s rehab.”
“The Murphys won’t want to read it. And you can’t keep trying to write yourself in. This is, like, the third time.”
“Why do you insist on it being all shiny happy codependency? Your friendship was so special and perfect that he didn’t even want to talk to anyone else?”
“Yes. That’s the story. We were best friends. I was his only friend.” Evan scratches his left arm, no longer broadcasting the best possible proof of that story. “You can’t just change it.”
“Uh-huh.” Jared’s eyes move over him, and Evan can tell he saw the scratching. “You do remember how this story ends, right?”
“What do you mean?”
“Evan,” Jared says. “Dude. Connor’s dead. And it’s not because his life was going great. Everyone knows that.”
“So?”
“So people will expect to read the tormented musings of a guy in a downward spiral. Not rainbows and butterflies and tree facts to the very end. Maybe they haven’t thought of it yet, but they’ll get there.”
“That’s awful.”
“That’s the human condition. Rubbernecking and being glad it’s not you.”
“Just because you decided to put the emails online —”
“Because Alana told me to, after you begged me to run the Connor Project website —”
“It’s not that simple, okay? Things are messy and complicated, it’s, recovery is nonlinear —”
“Oh, good, someone’s reading the Mental Health Resources page after all. And here I told our glorious co-founder it was a waste of server space.”
“I just want to help the Murphys,” Evan says. That’s all he’s wanted to do, from the moment Mrs. Murphy first mentioned the orchard. It has to be. “That’s the point of all this. I don’t care what people online think.”
“You mean the people giving you all that money to build an orchard for Connor? You’re sure you don’t care what they think? Only about cheering up your fake family and your very real girlfriend?”
“I told you, we’re not — Zoe and I are just friends.”
“Totally. You’ve got a lot of friends these days.”
“Yeah,” Evan says. “It’s pretty nice. You should try it.”
Jared vanishes from the call, and Evan is left staring at the empty Google Doc on his laptop and his own reflection in his phone screen. Alone.
Until Zoe’s texts come in.
Larry is making dinner tonight
His cooking is actually edible
That sounds great
Not that I don’t like your mom’s cooking, but you know
Yeah, I know
See you soon
(prompts to write drabbles or longer stories)
Turmoil; Chapter 2
Roman Roy x Reader
slowburn romantic drama
a/n: I’m so glad you guys love this as much as I do!! kisses, enjoy x
Word Count: 2.313k
Tumblr media
The Waystar building is daunting. It makes you queasy- not because of the architecture, but because of the people in it. You’re in Kendall’s office, his blinds drawn shut. You’ve been pacing for so long you think you’re going to wear a hole in the floor. Roman lounges on an armchair, his legs hanging over one of the armrests.
“You need to tell me everything you know about your father’s criminal history. It’s the only way out. Throw him in jail before he can do it to me. And then he’s rendered unfit to run Waystar and it goes to Kendall.”
Roman is playing with a tennis ball, tossing and catching it methodically. “He took Kendall out the will and replaced him with Marcia.”
Kendall sinks in his chair. “You could’ve told me that earlier.”
“Anyway, we all know my dad’s 100% a criminal. He just has so much money there’s practically no witnesses nor any evidence,” Roman continues. “We have to catch him with his pants down.”
“But in the act of what? We can’t just watch him 24/7/365. It’s not feasible,” you reply.
“Okay, do you have any better ideas?”
“We bait him. Is it unethical? Probably. But I think we’re all past that.”
Kendall gets up and goes to stare out the window overlooking the city. “You think maybe he’s laundered money?”
“What do you think he had to clean the money from?”
“Prostitutes,” Roman says confidently.
“That’s not illegal, genius.”
“Where’s your imagination, Y/N?”
You continue your pacing. “Let’s go down the list. Tax evasion? He wouldn’t go to jail for that.”
“Even if he did, he’d be evading an entire $2 in taxes. The bracket distribution is fucked,” Roman points out. “He covered up Connor’s property fraud. Shouldn’t that be enough?”
“It would be if we had concrete proof. Connor’s never going to testify and tell the truth, and I doubt we can find whoever he paid to forge the deed.”
Kendall shrugs. “I’ll try anyway.”
“We could try to get a confession,” you say. “But if he had a crazy enough attorney, it might not hold up in court.”
Roman rolls onto his side, staring at you. There’s no way that can be comfortable. “Why not?”
“It’s the twenty first century, Roman. He can claim that it was AI generated using his voice from speeches posted online. The only way it’d work is if he confessed on the stand.”
He throws you a dirty look. “Quit shitting on my ideas.”
“It wasn’t your idea. Plus, I’m just doing what any attorney with a brain would do,” you retort. “Your dad clearly has the money. He’ll probably find someone who’s thirty times the lawyer I am.”
“You’ll be fine,” Kendall assures you.
A knock on the office door interrupts your erratic pacing. Kendall opens it, allowing Siobhan to storm in. “He knows,” is all she says.
“Good afternoon,” Roman drawls in response.
“Congrats on your engagement party,” she snaps back.
“Party?” you ask.
“Your father in law is throwing you an engagement party in Norway.” She gives your arm a squeeze. “And I have to go.”
“Aww, I love you too, Siobhan,” you say sarcastically.
“It’s nothing against you. And call me Shiv. We’re friends.” She throws herself onto the couch. “I’m supposed to meet with a bunch of people here so that they can start digging. But not if I’m in Norway.”
“I can-”
“Your attendance is required as well, Kendall.”
“…Is Greg’s?” he asks. Shiv’s face splits into a small smile.
“I think he’ll forget about Greg. But none of us can ask him.” She turns to you. Y/N?”
“I don’t even know who Greg is.”
“He works here. You can’t miss him, he looks like an egg,” Roman supplies.
Shiv nods. “He’ll have people start digging while we’re abroad, we get a head start without him being able to cover anything up.”
“We still haven’t figured out what to do about Marcia’s being the heir,” Roman says, going back to sitting lopsidedly on the chair and tossing his tennis ball.
“Vote of no confidence, I guess. Who’re the board members?” you ask.
“Me, Roman, Gerri, Frank, Karl, my dad, and five other partners. And you, now, I think.” Kendall sits back down, then gets back up, only to sit back down again.
“Do you think we can swing the votes our way?”
“How?” Kendall drops his face into his hands.
“He needs to do something dumb in public,” Roman says. “I dunno, like be racist.”
“Is he…?” You look incredulously at Roman.
“Probably.”
”We can’t bank on him probably being racist. Members of the board, vote him out, he maybe hates foreigners.” You sigh. “I need a break. I’m going to go get sweets or something.”
“Bring me back a cheesecake and I’ll kiss you,” Shiv replies.
“Back off, Shiv. That’s my fiancé,” Roman says sarcastically.
“Kendall?” You ignore Roman, still lounging on the armchair.
“Um, a cupcake? Chocolate?”
“I’ll be quick.” You make your way through the office bullpen before Roman catches up to you.
“Hey, wait. You didn’t ask what I wanted,” he says, walking backwards in front of you.
“Good job, you noticed!” you say bitterly. He rolls his eyes.
“Let me come with you?”
“Will you be quiet?”
“No.”
“Then also no.”
You wait for an elevator with Roman right at your side. “You’re a jerk. We’re supposed to be a team.”
“You’re the one who’s made it clear that there’s no ‘we’ in any situation.”
“What, you want us to be exclusive? Can’t get any more exclusive than engaged, and you that’s what we are, baby.”
☾𖤓
Later that day, you’re in your office at your firm. After you and Roman had gone back to Waystar, you’d gotten a call from your assistant saying that someone was at her desk demanding to see you. You’d weaseled your way to your office and asked her to send whoever it is in.
Connor comes storming in, the girl he was with at the party awkwardly in tow. “We want a lawsuit.”
“Hello, Connor, I’m doing fine, thanks for asking!”
“My girlfriend, Willa, and I are staying at a hotel while our house in the country gets renovated.” Without asking, he sits in one of the chairs in front of your desk. Willa stands silently behind him. “I took took our valuables from home and gave them to the staff, who said they’d hold them in the hotel vault and keep them safe. We went back last night and, lo and behold, everything’s been stolen.”
You stare at him blankly. “You’re wasting my time, Connor.”
“I’m being serious,” he exclaims dramatically. “Her diamonds and gold were taken, along with my best watches.”
You sigh. “I’ll have one of my associates take this. This is an easy suit, Connor.”
“You’re going to do it.”
You get up from your desk. “Why, pray tell, would I do that?”
“Because I have leverage. And I need the best on the case. This has to go through.”
“Excuse my language, but a fucking toddler could win this. It’s negligence- innkeeper’s law. They put your stuff in their vault, it got stolen, they’re liable. Case closed.”
You try leaving, but Connor’s immediately up and blocking your way. “No. You’re doing it, or I tell the papers.”
You scoff. “Fucking fine. Do you have pictures of everything that was stolen?” Connor smiles, satisfied with himself. “Images from the companies you bought the junk from is fine. Have it on my desk with your hotel reservations by tomorrow. I’m not going to spend too much time on this.”
He blocks your way again. “Thank you.”
“Bye,” you say, gesturing your office door. After Connor leaves, Willa shuffling behind him, Roman takes his place, collapsing into a chair. “When’d you get here?”
“Like ten minutes ago. Connor was stomping around like a toddler. What’d he want?”
“A bunch of stuff got stolen while he’s staying at the hotel. He wants to file a lawsuit through me.”
“He’s trying to waste your time,” Roman says matter-of-factly. “He knows the four of us are gunning for Dad, and by proxy, him, because Dad is the one protecting his ass.”
“What does Connor own that would be damaged by Logan leaving?”
“He’s a shareholder. If you oust Dad, he probably goes too, just to save face.” He kicks his feet up onto your desk. “And he’s just annoying like that. You know he pays that girl to be with him?”
You wince. You don’t want to think about that. “Why are you here?”
“I can’t come visit my fiancé?”
“No.”
“Too bad. Waystar’s hosting a charity dinner tonight. Or, technically, we are.”
“We?”
“Our first public apparence together. Isn’t it romantic?”
You pinch the bridge of your nose. You don’t have the mental capacity for this. “Okay. Do you know what you’re wearing?”
“Same thing I always wear. Dress pants and slacks.” He gets to his feet. “Don’t worry your pretty little head, anyway. It’s just a bunch of corporate wannabes kissing my ass so that they can move up in the company.”
“Because your ego needs it.”
You manage to go home and change before Roman picks you up. Rather, the driver does. Both of you sit wordlessly in the back, until he tells you, “You look nice all dolled up.”
“I don’t look nice usually?”
“That’s not what I- never mind.”
Feeling bad, you glance at him. “You look nice, too.”
When you pull up at the venue, Roman scoots until he’s pressed up against the door and takes your hand, pulling you against him before opening the door and stepping out with you behind him.
The paparazzi is as aggressive as always, and you know you’re getting sick of it. When you’re both safely inside, he lets go of your hand. “I’m gonna go drink an excessive amount and pass out behind a curtain.”
You watch him wind into the crowd. You hope he’s joking.
Roman was right, earlier. This wasn’t the sort of charity dinner where people actually donate to charity- this was purely social.
You find Shiv by herself in a corner and join her. “I fucking hate these,” she tells you. “They could at least pretend to be here for a noble cause.”
You two spend the half hour before dinner chatting among yourselves in the corner. You thankfully veer away from talking about work and the clusterfuck that you’ve gotten yourselves into and instead idly discuss anyone and everyone you both see.
When you’re called to be seated for dinner, you peer at the the seating chart indicating that Shiv’s on your left with Roman on your right. You and Shiv take your seats, Roman nowhere to be seen. 10, 20 minutes pass.
“This is normal for him,” she tells you, in between bites. “He’s probably blackout drunk somewhere.”
“In public?”
She nods.
Once dinner is over, the crowd goes back to mingling. Shiv has to step away to talk to some client of hers, and while she’s gone, someone taps on your shoulder.
“You’re a pretty face I haven’t seen before.” It’s an old man. A very old man.
You try to just ignore him, making your way to the refreshment table and plucking a chocolate from a tray. He follows you anyway.
“What’s your name? What do you do at Waystar?”
You give him a dirty look and continue your inspection of the refreshments.
“You’re a feisty one, then?” He laughs, and it makes your skin crawl. “I like a challenge.”
You give him another look and round the table. “I have much better wine at my place. Much better than the garbage they serve here. Much.”
He follows you despite your pretending like he doesn’t exist. “I can tell you’d be a good time.”
Before you can do something rash, a warm hand goes to sit on your hip, grounding you. You smell his cologne before you realize it’s him.
“Figures you don’t know how to take no for an answer with all the whining you do to me for a promotion.” Roman pulls you flush against him. “Are you trying to fuck my girl?” Before the man can say anything, Roman interrupts. “The answer is no. And there’s also no showing your face here, or at Waystar, ever again. I’ve been looking for a reason to fire you. You were never an asset.”
He scuttles off, and Roman slumps against you, arm still hooked around your waist. “Are you drunk?” you ask him.
“Very,” he responds.
“I think it’s past your bedtime,” you tell him. “Can we go home?”
Arrangements had been made for you and Roman to start living together in a cozy apartment secluded from the rest of the city. You weren’t mad about it, really. You just hope Roman isn’t a slob.
“Tell what’s-his-face to pull the car up. I’m going to puke in my shoes.”
When you’ve sat down, Roman sets his head in your lap and stretches out along the back seat.
“How much did you have to drink?” you ask stiffly.
“Lots and lots.” He presses his face into your stomach. “Before we left, I had a lovely conversation with my dad. Told me how much of a fuck up I was, how you’re the only right decision I’ve ever made. And it’s not even true. I didn’t want this.”
You give his shoulder an awkward rub. “I’m sorry. I’m sorry you’re involved in this. I should’ve known, way back then.”
“The worst part is, Y/N, as much as I try to hate you and blame you for this shit show, I can’t. You’re innocent. You’re a damn good lawyer that was just doing her job. And it pisses me off that you’re so fucking pretty, because I can’t have you, but I want you so bad.”
Can I ask for your opinion about Kon's relationship with Dick?
People normally think about Tim and Kon when I ask their opinion about Robin and Super Boy
Maybe because I got introduced to Kon(then Conner) thru Young Justice, but when I hear it, its always been Dick and Conner
But I can see why they only think about Tim and Kon, because of the comics and all. Hell I'm not even sure if Kon and Conner have the same backstory, so I'm very confused
It's just, nobody talks about their relationship, like at all, and I get so curious the more I see Dicks interactions with the other supers in the kent family, and then I compare that to the lack of content about Kon and Dick regarding their relationship
oh man I get so confused with Young Justice tv show vs comics. It's insane the overlap. I saw Kaldur in Teen Titans (2016) with Damian and felt so bewildered why Dick and Kaldur didn't know each other before I realized - different universes. It's still weird and offsetting every time I see Kaldur though. Same with M'gann in Titans (2016) comic.
I really enjoyed Dick and Connor dynamic in Young Justice. The dynamic though! The cackling little maniac who's half his height is somehow the saviour of the most stoic man with some of the biggest daddy issues with the nicest man on earth.
In the comics, Conner kinda hero-worships/is a little intimidated by Dick
The other time in the comics, Dick shows up with the Titans because someone's Conner trying to calm down has become a big problem for civilian safety.
They have a confrontation where Dick wants to take them down but Conner thinks she can still be saved.
It's always interesting for me to read Nightwing in younger heroes comics because of the way he's written. Like here for instance, he effectively took control and deescalated the situation but it's from Kon's point of view so it also feels like Dick is taking over Kon's jurisdiction. Yet at the end, the way the scene progresses, this feels good. The way Nightwing is seen through Kon's eyes is like an untouchable figure who's just so good at everything and in control of stuff. Yet this moment, there's a softer quality to him than when he came in, giving the sense that Kon has earned Nightwing's respect, the respect of someone he views untouchable. And that's a good feeling. The subtlety in this was great.
So I feel like you can go two way with Kon and Dick. The first is the Young Justice way where they're sort of the same age vibe.
I miss this dynamic!
The second is the comic way where he hero worships Dick (as everyone does). I don't like how they don't have a lot of interactions together given how close Dick is with the Superfam. But also Kon and Clark don't get along that well either so I guess it makes sense that Kon wouldn't be around Dick as much simply by way of missed opportunities. There should still be a lot more though.
Personally, I love Conner and Dick. They fight but they respect each other and they treat each other on equal terms. They're fun!
