No okay bc i was thinking about Rhea Royce and Daemon too, right, bc she’s an heiress so like-

I’ve mentioned this before but Lady Waynwood rules in her own right and all of her sons have her name. We know nothing about her husband, perhaps he was some wealthy Essosi noble and thus there was no family on the continent to be affronted at his children not having his name, maybe he was like second born and no one gave a shit, but regardless, she and Jacaerys (who was meant to take the name Targaryen once he was prince of dragonstone) are our only real examples here for ruling women who actually have children outside of dorne - because jeyne arryn never has children of her own so she never deals with the problem of “how do i navigate naming my kids as an heiress?”

DOES THIS MEAN DAEMON’S KIDS WOULDNT EVEN BE CALLED TARGARYENS❓

or does this mean Rhea is supposed to just be okay with the name Royce disappearing??? I do not fucking think so, so they’d likely do the split name thing like with Rhaenyra’s kids, although (and this is assuming Daemon manages to have even one let one two kids with her lmao) I do imagine Daemon having a single child out there that doesn’t have the name Targaryen really pisses him off.

The first names in this situation intrigue me. When Valyrians marry outside the family, their children tend to get at least some Valyrian names - Laena Penrose, Aemma Arryn, Viserys Plumm tho u could argue that was a purposeful insult too, Rhaego to some extent - and they usually marry back into the main branch - Jocelyn Baratheon, Laena & Laenor Velaryon, all the cousin swapping going on with Daeron’s grandkids, Elia Nymeros Martell (ish), potentially Aelinor Penrose as well - but at the same time, this house will descend from RHEA not Daemon, so the Valyrian name is likely to kinda die out after a generation or two for the main line, while the second born probably marries back into the main line. Like, the Penroses are named Phillip now, not Baelor or Laena, bc they don’t descend from Elaena on paper, they descend from her HUSBAND, from Ronnel. And while it’s likely Rhaenyra’s grandkids by Jacaerys would have Targaryen names, her grandkids by Lucerys would have Velaryon names, and crucially, all of Rhaenyra’s kids by Laenor have names Laenor picks because the husband picks. So Rhea’s son? gonna have a whack ass name like Baelon Royce. But Baelon Royce may want to pick a more Royce-ish name for his own heir, instead of a Targaryen one, and that’s gonna be. a conversation.

i think daemon is going to insist on his royce child marrying another valyrian and choosing another targaryen first name (even if they still keep the name royce). like, he is going to be the bitchiest sort of grandparent who just straight up won’t acknowledge the child’s real name if he doesn’t get his way here, at least while he’s alive.

IN THAT SAME VEIN, daemon is super valyria brained. if he has two girls or two boys with rhea it’s whatever but if he has a boy and a girl. i think this man is going to want his kids to marry. we are just going to have random royces fucking in the vale.

🦇 The Pairing Book Review 🦇

❓ #QOTD If you could travel anywhere for the summer, where would you go? ❓ 🦇 Theo and Kit have been a lot of things: childhood best friends, crushes, in love, and now estranged exes. After a brutal breakup on the transatlantic flight to their dream European food and wine tour, they exited each other's lives once and for all. All that remains is the unused voucher for the European tour that never happened, good for 48 months after its original date and about to expire. It's not until they board the tour bus that they discover they've both accidentally had the exact same idea, and now they're trapped with each other for three weeks of stunning views, luscious flavors, and the most romantic cities of France, Spain, and Italy. Will it be too much, or a reminder that a small taste can make you crave what you can't have?

💜 Pairs well with: healing hearts long bottled up but aged well, a decadent glass of light-bodied wine with hints of cherry (memories of sweet syrup spilling down warm wrists on a hot summer's day), and a lover's kiss (their taste stained against your lips). I don't know what I was thinking, reading I Kissed Shara Wheeler, Red, White, & Royal Blue, then The Pairing all back to back in a rushed, heart-aching CMQ marathon for Pride Month, but WOAH does my heart hurt. The Pairing is the perfect rom-com summer read. This story will whisk you away on a tour of Europe, inviting you to feast on local cuisine until adjectives tantalize and taunt your tastebuds, soothing you like a rich glass of red (smooth and velvety, bursting with flavors of ripe plum, black cherry, and toasted cedar, sparking unfamiliar memories). If you adored Red, White, and Royal Blue (namely, the queer references and quotes pulled from history), the exploration of Europe's never-ending artistry and ageless anecdotes will no doubt tug at your heartstrings. Nevermind the detailed descriptors, the pristine explorations of pastries, pasta, wine, and wonder. Let's talk about Kit and Theo.

💜 CMQ does an outstanding job at Show, Don't Tell throughout the entire novel. Too often, there's a moment in second-chance romances, a piece of the past that broke a meant-to-be couple apart, that SO many novels reveal all too quickly. CMQ doesn't hinge the entire story on that reveal, nor is it unveiled too soon. Instead, we're given the chance to understand Theo and Kit's points of view, not about that ONE defining moment, but about everything; how they came to be, what their lives were becoming, the lost possibility. These two characters feel SO much, but those emotions are never defined with clear-cut words, forcing readers to accept those feelings. Emotions aren't so cut and dry, nor singular; they're a tangle, a messy knot of hurt and longing, love and betrayal. Instead, we experience them through glimpses of the past and present. We heal alongside them. I'm grateful the story focused on Theo's POV first, THEN switched to Kit's during a pivotal moment of their present. We experience Theo's still raw pain and self-doubt before delving into Theo's everlasting love and regret.

💜 I just, I CAN'T. I didn't last a single chapter without making a mess of annotations. I've lived a friends-to-lovers-to-enemies-back-to-lovers, second-chance romance. I know that feeling of one person being your everything, regardless of time and distance. CMQ captures it fully.

💙 My only hang-up: this story relies on the miscommunication trope to survive, not only in the present, but the past that broke Theo and Kit apart in the first place. The execution is flawless, though, giving it realistic reasoning instead of simply using it as a plot piece. I'd also like to point out that the description you read online, regarding the hookup competition, is hardly the story's real focus. It's like the garnish for an already sublime cocktail. You can do without.

hmm okay so i’m watching your beloved film (‼️PAUSE FOR EXCITEMENT‼️) and when sam goes to get robert to tell him it’s time to go, they’re walking down the hall and sam says “so after a whole day of that, you still want to get engaged?” (i know it’s superfluous to quote this movie TO YOU. but bare with me) sam’s line kind of gave me the impression that she has her own qualms about marriage/true love. so my QUESTION is: do you have any headcanons about her past and/or her personal life? or at the very least just any headcanons about her friendship with robert :))

Okay !!! I’m finally going to answer this !!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry it’s taken me so long, I so desperately wanted to but then I’d get home from work and lose all motivation (despite having an answer !!!) But ! I’m here now !!! and it’s my day off !! so let’s dive in~

to start, I don’t really have a lot of like. solo headcanons for Sam, but I do think about her relationship with Robert quite a bit! also, to answer your first question, I do headcanon that she’s married! to a man named Eric, because well. Yeah. it’s very corny, I know, but I couldn’t think of anything better, and now he’s just stuck with that name 😩

but yeah because of that, I don’t think she’s got any issues with marriage or love or anything, I think she just really likes giving Robert a hard time. I think they’re pretty close, and she’s one of the few people that knows a bit about his history with his ex-wife, and they have a good “Teasing Each Other Relentlessly” kind of dynamic.

one of my favorite bits of that first Sam/Robert interaction is that, after she says that line you quoted, she kinda playfully hits his arm and smirks, and it’s just !!! very cute and silly, and I think a very good display of their friendship. and their second interaction is so great, too. when Robert says, “please don’t tell me Mrs. Banks is already here” and Sam’s just, “Mrs. Banks already here !” and when he asks, “perfect, how long they been here?” she laughs and says, “do you really wanna know?” and and ANNNND when Robert tells her to help Giselle and she’s just, “what do you want me to do 🤨🤨🤨🤨” and then she whisper-yells “she has NO driver’s license, NO passport !!!” like soifjsoidfjdijsfjdojfsojds sorry I’m just quoting their scenes and not saying anything new but my point is THEY’RE FUNNY. and I’m very sad they don’t have More scenes together.

but, yeah, okay so I think Sam was basically like. Robert’s only friend outside of Nancy, and later, Giselle and Edward. like he has acquaintances, for sure, but I think Sam’s the only person he considered a Close Friend. I actually have this cute headcanon that, when Robert had to fill out an emergency contact form for Morgan, he’d put himself and then Sam (if he had to put another number, that is) because she was the only person he knew and trusted at the time 🤧

she’s pretty awkward around babies/kids though. there were times where Robert would have to bring Morgan to the office with him, and sometimes he’d ask like, “can you watch her while I go to my meeting, please, please, please?” and Sam just sighs, and agrees, but the whole time her and Morgan are just. staring at each other awkwardly. Sam asks how she’s liking the weather, and Morgan’s just 👶❓ but they both survive the hour !

because they’ve known each other for roughly five years, Sam can read him pretty well, so when he comes in with Giselle and disaster strikes the office, she’s very ??? and she’s even more ???????????? when he comes back the following Monday and is like. so unbelievably happy. and at first she thinks “oh, right ! you must’ve proposed to Nancy!!” but then Robert says, “oh, haha, no, we broke up actually !” with a grin and leaves her absolutely stunned.

and, I think I’ve mentioned before but, Robert kind of keeps Giselle a secret from the office, just for a little while because he doesn’t want any of his coworkers to be rude to her, but the second Sam learns they’re dating, she assumes the worst. and she’s not trying to be rude/mean, but she definitely thinks Giselle is just a strange (very, very strange) rebound to get over Nancy. but seeing Robert so … so happy, it kind of makes her realize, okay, maybe this is real. I guess… 😒 but she’s still a bit hesitant around Giselle for a little while (she did almost swallow Sam’s fish, after all!!)

eventually, though, she gets to know Giselle, because she’s always popping in to say hi, and she asks what everyone’s favorite baked goods are, then brings them the next day, and well. how can Sam hate a person like that ?? I like to think she gets to a point where she’s asking how Robert ever landed a woman like her, which just makes him roll his eyes (but internally, he’s like “I literally ask myself that question every day”)

aaaaand she happily attended their wedding reception, and poked fun at Robert later for being suuuuuuch a good dancer, and sooooo Sappy and Romantic~

Thematic Headcanons.

🧡 for a friendship-themed headcanon

It's actually not difficult to make friends with HiMERU; you just need to understand that you aren't friends before you can really progress in that direction. However, as with anyone else, all it takes is paying attention to his preferences and reactions, and not growing complacent just because he seems to treat you amicably. Thoughtfulness goes a lot further with HiMERU than he'd have you believe.

😶 for a headcanon about a secret they know of / keep

You thought. Well, you thought wrong. Anyway, I think they know a lot more about certain Godfather-related issues than they let on... While I don't necessarily think Priest told them everything outright, I do believe they did their own digging, and were close enough to the center that they actually found something. It can be assumed that a lot of it is guesswork, but I do believe they came to know a thing or two about Priest's state of mind and his goals, which would make filling in the blanks of how it came to that point quite a bit easier. Of course, the majority of it is relatively worthless to them; they truly could not care less and want nothing to do with it. They saw it as knowledge with which to protect themself. Don't worry, Mr. "He was interested in me because I'm related to a certain big name idol," I see you. This is all just background for the actual headcanon.

And for those of you who were disappointed in me for not making everything about Kaname, just wait, because I'm going to make this worse. We already know that the video released during SS about Subaru's father was Priest's fault, but doesn't that sound familiar? A very, very similar video was released in a similar fashion before, one that targeted the sympathies of the other side of the conflict and resulted in the hospitalization of two promising young idols. To accept that HiMERU found out about that video (and they did, that much is very much canon) is to therefore assume they knew who to blame for it. And, after having been given the perfect tools for the task, how could they then not strive to turn HiMERU into a superidol the likes of which were all but history? How could they not use the man's own techniques to make a legend out of the boy he tried to destroy? It is an act of defiance, resistance, and revenge that mirrors Priest's own masquerade as Godfather himself. As they say: they are not building HiMERU for Kaname, but for themself, just to prove they can. Their story is overflowing with mishandled feelings of guilt, but I do believe this is a strong driving force behind their goals, moreso than simply holding the door open for their baby brother. And... this got long, but don't hesitate to ask for more details because this one is always on my mind. TL;DR Priest's obsession is HiMERU's inspiration and motivation both for taking up Kaname's identity.

💕 for a love-themed headcanon

I wanted to make this one about Kaname too, but that's kind of a cop out. So! Let's talk romantic love, which is probably what's intended here. I actually had something else written here, but I decided that it would make a better standalone post, so keep your eyes open for that. Anyway, you will likely never catch him engaging in PDA, but he has the capacity to be very affectionate in private, if his partner enjoys that sort of thing. (For the record, he will likely enjoy it, but he has no idea where he stands with it.) He's simply not used to it, even among friends, and the idea of that kind of vulnerability outside of a "safe" environment is a no no. You know, ignoring the other perfectly reasonable reasons he doesn't and won't, such as the issue of appropriate behaviour for idols to engage in. He will tolerate it in small doses where necessary. Don't think I haven't seen your onstage interactions, mister.

😴 for a sleep-themed headcanon

HiMERU does not tend to sleep restfully. He tries to maintain a very strict routine in order to help with it, and spends as little time near his bed when not sleeping as possible. Staying up late tends to be very disruptive to this delicate process, but sometimes it can't be helped... you know, like when a certain someone needs a babysitter. The proper thing for me to do would be to list that routine now, but I'm not going to do that. xoxo He probably should take sleep medication, but he won't.

🏠 for a home-themed headcanon

HiMERU actually does enjoy a cozy style of furniture that might not be expected of him. When he first began to furnish and decorate his place, aesthetic was secondary to comfort, as he wanted it to be as welcoming as possible for his little brother to come home to. However, even with other priorities, his sensibilities wouldn't allow him to simply bring home random pieces of furniture. The resulting arrangement incorporates gentle colours that would provide a much needed reprieve from sterile hospital whites and beiges without leaning too far into garishness. Given the opportunity, he would likely do something similar again; he came to enjoy the balancing puzzle.

🤕 for a pain-themed headcanon

They actually have a pretty low pain threshold; it's just that hiding it has been drilled into them, and so they keep it to themself, even if it's unbearable. This also applies to emotional pain— they feel it so strongly, and yet will not allow others a glimpse of their turmoil. This isn't really a headcanon. I cheated you again.

🐈 for a pet/animal-themed headcanon

He has had very little interaction with animals throughout his life, in general. He does not go to them, and they do not go to him. There is a mutual understanding to leave one another alone. Therefore, it makes him a little nervous to do so, even to pet a cat or dog. He doesn't enjoy unfamiliar experiences typically, especially ones that can't be prepared for ahead of time.

🌸 for a plant-themed headcanon

Kills them. Just kills all the plants. He's over-attentive and then under. He looks it up and meticulously cares for it by whatever arbitrary guideline list he finds for that specific plant, and then grows complacent because he has more important things to do. Therefore, he doesn't care for plants, period.

🌄 for an outdoor-themed headcanon

Voted very likely to succeed in a survival situation, although it would be messy. He can always, in any circumstance, "make do." But it won't be pretty. He is by no means a survival expert, nor does he have a lot of experience with it— he's just someone with good bodily control and lots of random trivia at his disposal that will help him make it through.

🌂 for a weather-themed headcanon

They love the sound of thunder and rain. Real ones may remember my headcanon about Kaname being afraid of thunder, and I'm here to tell you that this has absolutely nothing to do with that.

🪐 for a universe-themed headcanon

help girl what do you mean you want me to come up with setting themed headcanons for my idol from my idol game... I just think it must have been a terribly tense and awkward period of time studying idols for Kaname's sake given his history and all.

✂️ for a hair-themed headcanon

HiMERU originally allowed his hair to grow naturally, alongside Kaname, but decided to maintain a certain length once he became more successful as an idol. The image is everything. He knows it cannot change. His hair was actually shorter than Kaname's when they first met, and for a time, it was his preference. He's grown quite accustomed to his current style, though.

📱 for a media-themed headcanon

He's definitely one of those kinds of people who won't touch an e-book. Has to be physical. He won't get all pretentious about it right off the bat, but it's not something he prefers for himself and that's all there is to it.

🎵 for a music-themed headcanon

I don't think HiMERU likes music very much, actually. Just something mellow that can be passively listened to while reading or doing something else will do. "But Ember, why would someone who doesn't like music be in the music industry?" Do you remember his backstory? Anyway, the love he has grown for living as an idol isn't the music, it's the job itself. He has a passion all his own, not just for Kaname's sake, and I think the contrast that bears to Kaname's own regrets over choosing the path in the first place is delicious.

🎥 for a film/tv-themed headcanon

They have watched every production that Kaname has ever been in to an exhaustive and disturbing degree, until they memorized every word, until they analyzed every twitch... and then, just to be on the safe side, they watched a few episodes of each show without Kaname for good measure, or other movies with the same writers, directors, or producers. And so, you will find that HiMERU has an impressively broad catalogue of movie knowledge, even in fields they have no interest in.

💰 for a money-themed headcanon

HiMERU found out pretty belatedly about how much money was being passed back and forth to keep "his" name relevant in the months leading up to the incident at Reimei. It took a fair bit of effort for him to fix HiMERU's reputation, but the upside of the situation was that the increase in genuine quality after months of bribes, post production edits, and awkward apologies was likely the reason for his surge in popularity that allowed him to keep up with the unit-favouring changes in the industry. However, to this day, he finds himself very concerned with the flow of money surrounding him: where it came from and why, and where it goes. To him, it's another aspect of his image as an idol that needs to be maintained.

💉 for a medical-themed headcanon

HiMERU continues to frequent the hospital to visit Kaname every chance he gets, and even at times when he shouldn't. As much as he dislikes the scenery for various reasons, he finds it somewhat comforting when he's feeling unsettled. If he is unable to see Kaname, he will still often find himself nearby, just for familiarity's sake. Despite the circumstances, he feels safe there.

🛒 for a shopping-themed headcanon

HiMERU is an incredibly frugal shopper, only purchasing what's absolutely necessary... most of the time. He is not immune to impulse purchases by any means, and as a matter of fact, is more likely to do so as a thoughtful gesture towards others.

❓ for a headcanon of the receiver's choice

HiMERU shares his real birthday with his mother, and before she died, the two of them would share the first slice of cake. While he doesn't care to celebrate his birthday at all, he does still find time to have that slice on that day in her memory, even if that's all it is.

Okay, so, I just figured since all these are from the old blog I'll just put them all together for one big post.

i'm not sure if I have any real pet peeves. Maybe writing wise, its threads and replies that puts my character into a situation that should never happen (say I give you a starter of caitlyn not really interested or bored, then you reply back with your character in a bad situation asking for help making it look like caitlyn is callous and uncaring). Or I think my biggest pet peeve is threads that have no way of being responded to. With roleplaying, its a give and take. If you don't give me anything to really respond to then there's not much to go on. Roleplaying requires a bit of pro-active engagement on both sides; I have to make my thread easy to respond to just as you have to do the same. And I don't me dialogue; I have threads that have absolutely no dialogue and you can still respond to it! Its ensure that there is enough give that someone can take away from it and respond to. If you don't do that, it bugs me a little because I can't just figure out what to do or how to respond which frustrates me.

A character I wanted to write but never have.... honestly, I don't know? I've tried to write the characters I want, but if its a dead fandom or no interest its hard to stay on that blog. I know I wrote a little bit with Korra and Evie Frye, but it didn't really seem to generate much interest so I dropped them, along with other characters I've enjoyed. I kind of need that engagement to really want to keep a character.

Worse roleplay trend. If there was one, I'm not sure. I tend to only really write and follow those who kind of match my style. If there was a trend, I probably missed it XD Maybe word count requirements? I find that a bit annoying in the past; which was a big thing more on forum writing then tumblr.

Oh, my favorite type of threads are those that are fully engaged, plot filled, and leading a story! Add on if they turn into novellas; I am a big supporter of people who LOVE to write a lot, please, if you want to give me 16 paragraphs, DO IT!!! I will never be upset by length or amount of words. But I absolutely adore threads that lead to a story; have the thread affect Caitlyn so much that it becomes a part of her history! That I will reflect back to it in other threads, interwoven into the fabric of her story.

Now, three adjectives. I don't... do good with these XD I never look at myself in a good way omg. Maybe dependable, empathetic, and tired? You know what I mean, that tired mom syndrome we both have XD

And I use to have piercings!!! Sadly, not anymore, everything is closed up now ;_; but I use to have my ears pierced and my belly button pierced. Its been almost a decade since I've had piercings.

Varies wildly. Palomino is directly inspired by my horse riding holidays, whereas for other stories, I literally came up with them while staring at a blank wall 😂 To be honest, most fics I have literally no memory how I came up with *cough* Seams *cough*. I usually just let my brain marinate and hyperfixate until it conjures up something, or not.

❓ What’s the last book you read that blew your mind?

I'm ashamed to say that... I don't read much 🙈 And when I do, it's mostly non-fiction/history books. I know it sounds dull, but Batavia's Graveyard by Mike Dash was literally the most gripping book I've read in a long time. It's about a very dramatic shipwreck on a remote island off the coast of Western Australia in the 1600s, and it's an incredible story that involves mutiny, murder and survival. I highly recommend just Googling it, it's fascinating, and there's an excellent episode on it by Casefile.

I also, for some reason, am obsessed with books about climbing Everest, despite having no interest in actual climbing. Into Thin Air is another book that stayed with me for a long time, which is about the 1996 disaster that killed eight climbers on Everest. Again, it's just such a gripping account, and I just found it fascinating to get into a climber's mindset, which is so hard to grasp.

My secret, secret, secret wish is to turn Palomino into a book. It would be the ultimate love letter to my love for horses and solo travel. But I really don't think I have the discipline or the drive - maybe the dream of it is sweeter than the reality of having to write it, so it might stay just that 🥺

Time travel AU: Weeping Angels and Harry Potter

No one will ever see it, probably, but it's 5 a.m. somewhere, and I'm fandom crazy 🤷🏼‍♀️

So, I really love time-travel AU in almost any form and flavor, but being as obsessed with Marauders as I’m, you can imagine my favorite setting for such AU🐺🐶🦌🐭

I also live by Doctor Who 👨‍⚕️❓ — it's something about charismatic British (wo)men, you know — so it should give context for how this idea came to me.

Anyway, the idea itself. Weeping Angels 🗽 in Harry Potter universe. I consider Weeping angels to be one of THE BEST creations in fictional universe, and I believe the potential for their use is infinite.

Imagine a Main Character (up to you which one: canon characters, OC all the way, or I also really like to interconnect Marauders era and The next generation aka the kids). Imagine Hogwarts defenses get triggered; no one is found, everyone thinks it's false alarm or some ghost/boggart/something harmless, and no one notices an extra statue in the halls. Imagine people start missing. Imagine your character just walking the halls and noticing over time that statues change, that there's more of them. Imagine your MC not being quick enough one day, so an Angel gets them. Imagine them appearing in the same hall in 1970s. Imagine drama and angst, and romance, and found family (maybe even literal one, depending on the character). Imagine opportunities for plots and ships.

I love the idea that MC would  go to Potters or Blacks for help and protection, depending on who they are.

(And I get it, Blacks do not seem to be a logical choice, but I imagine MC going to Arcturus and Melania Black (aka Lord & Lady of Black), and being like: 'I'm f*cking Black, I'm stuck in the past, Angels are evil, so you will help me, or Morgana help me!'. Something similar with Potters, but much more cordial and wholesome)

MC becoming part of the family and sibling to one of the Marauders. Them coming to Hogwarts and integrating in. Living, breathing, learning, making friends and falling in love.

Also, MC not telling the truth to Marauders until much later or at all, and the only person that they would trust with the truth aside the family is McGonagall (let's be honest. this Queen✨ would be objectively the only one to handle such shit, with grace)

Imagine MC starting to become part of history, maybe trying to change it, but maybe ending up only causing it to happen. Imagine them starting to suspect that Angels were not so random in the first place. Imagine an Angel appearing in the 1970s...

As I said, potential is infinite. There may be more time jumps, there may be time loops, there may be evil plans and strategies, there may be even the Doctor themself (multiverse IS real, after all).

To conclude:

No one will ever see it, probably, but if YOU did, and have read it all trough, then it must be either 5 a.m. at yours or you're fandom crazy ❤️‍🔥. They got their name because of their need to cover their faces to avoid trapping each other in stone-state. They are known for being "kind" murderous psychopaths, eradicating their victims "mercifully" by dropping them into the past and letting them live out their full lives, just in a different time period. This, in turn, allows them to live off the remaining time energy of the victim's life.

I must know all. ^_^ No particular part of the story, but maybe the whole story in general?

✨Vibes✨. The whole thing is just ✨vibes✨.

I'm rather partial to the aesthetics of Gothic fiction without being at all partial to the actual stories of Gothic fiction.

So I took those vibes, Gothic aesthetics, the prompts themselves, some old Maedhros headcanons, and a Beauty and the Beast retelling I will probably never write, and tossed them all in a blender and served up the slurry that came out.

I actually got hung up and hit writer's block at one point near-ish the beginning middle. I think you can tell, I think the pacing changes right there.

I actually don't much care for the story itself at all. The heroine couldn't make up her mind and stick to just one personality and so she came off as a fluff-minded non-entity, and the whole thing felt rushed and abrupt even as I was writing it. (In no small part because it was rushed.)

That said, I do still really like the concept. The Time Sea and the Castle and its Keeper who is not quite human and not tied to any one time himself. I think it would work better as a novel focused on him rather than one sole girl washed up on the shores; maybe an anthology of the people he's seen or a history of the castle and why it looks Like That or maybe who the heck is he anyway?? And is there anything interesting about the land and the earth and the shore where the Time Sea washes?

Alas, I am not in a position to write that novel right now. Maybe one day.

Gypsy was a little girl with a lot of mental and physical problems. She was 15 years old. Her mother, Dee Dee had been taking care of her for a long time. Gypsy didn't have a father because he abandonded her.

A huracan happened in Gypsy town and it destroyed her house. After the huracan the Gypsy's medical history was not found and her mother told all the illneses that she supossed to had. A lot of help was sent by the goverment.

Some stranger messages about a murder was shared on Dee Dee's Facebook account. The police was called by the neighbors and Dee Dee's body was found in her own house. The neighbors had thought that her daughter was kidnaped.

The investigation said that Gypsy met with a man called Nicolas, they knew each other on Facebook. Gypsy's Facebook account was invetigated and the police found that they planned the murder. Some people look at Gypsy and Nicolas around the neighbourhood and the most stranger thing was that Gypsy could walk.

💜 Oh. My. Goddess. This book. THIS BOOK. This book hit me like a freight train (yes, yes, I see the pun). It's been a month since I read it because I couldn't find the words...I still can't. But I'll try. 💜 This. Book. Why did NO ONE tell me about this book?! 💜 From page one, this book is a childhood friend reaching out and tugging you into a warm, solid embrace before lifting you off your feet, spinning you around, and causing the word to blur. Casey McQuiston's narration is familiar, inviting, intimate. I couldn't stop annotating. August is raw and vulnerable and real, but still figuring out who she is away from her mother and messy childhood. We're only lucky enough to discover the woman she is alongside her. 💜 I don't want to spoil this story for anyone who hasn't read it yet, because there's a moment that changes EVERYTHING -- the genre, the plot, August, EVERYTHING. It's executed so well that I still feel the impact. WHY am I tearing up writing a review for this a MONTH later?! 💜 The underlying messages in this story are so heavy and impactful, yet written with such ease and grace and respect. ❓Have you read The City of Brass? What was your first impression of this book?   So here is my (not) favorite category - an unpopular opinion.   I postponed this review for a while, but it's time to accept - I didn't like The City of Brass. I wanted to like this book, to fall in love with this series and I just couldn't.   I had time to think about why it had happened this way. I guess the answer is simple as much as it is not. I couldn't connect with our main characters - Nahri and Ali.   A small synopsis - Nahri is a con artist who is dreaming to become a healer someday. She accidentally summons the djinn and has no other option than to go on an adventure with him to try and reach the city of her ancestors - Daevabad. Ali is a young djinn prince living in Daevabad and he tries to choose a side in an ongoing conflict inside the city. Ahead of them a lot of trials and hard choices that can affect the lives of many.   If we continue speaking about our main characters, I don't think they were written badly, I think that the character work was rather solid. They just weren't great for me. The plot didn’t help with it because our characters rarely acted proactively. The plot forced them to do something, not the other way around. The only proactive character was the summoned djinn, Dara, whom I actually liked a lot. But he wasn't the main character and his page time in the book was not that big, so he alone couldn't make it for me.   In the end, when the final culmination occurred I just tried to understand why I should care and failed in it. It was hard for me to finish this book.   Also, I want to highlight some things you can enjoy in this book - the worldbuilding is a really interesting one, we have a magic system, thousands of years of history, and beautifully written places and landscapes. The mood of the book and the culture can create a really interesting experience for many fantasy lovers.   I know that it's a well-loved book and I will not persuade anyone not to try it, there is a good chance you'll love it.
