Our next Mother Nature is Swamp! Also known as Wetlands. While she is closely related to Water, they're very different. Water ebbs, flows, and changes as her environment needs her to. Wetlands however, is unforgiving and unyielding to the outside perspective.
Recent events have made Wetlands wild, chaotic, and feral. She is over run with invasive species, illegal hunting, and pollution. While her waters used to glow turquoise, they now seem brown. But she's ready for the fight!
Our eco-tips!
There are things called Eco-Bricks, or Plastic Bricks. They're plastic bottled stuffed with other plastic waste. You pack the inside as tightly and densely as you can, and then send the "brick" to one of several companies using those bricks to build! It's fun, relatively easy, and free! Don't feel bad that you have waste, we all do! Just use it for good!
It's time to stock up on that vitamin D! Not to sound like a 2008 "Nicks Day of Outside Play" commercial but go outside! Vitamin D has been proven many times in many studies to improve mental health! And while you're out there, soaking up the sun and getting all those good brain chemicals, think about picking up some trash! Yeah, yeah. I know, you've heard it all before. But seriously. Just go to your back yard or your front yard or in front of your building or behind your building or to a park or wherever! Go to a parking lot! And pick up the trash you see on the ground. One piece, four bags, an entire dumpster full! It all helps.
I know the time has long since passed, but if you are considering putting lights or decorations on the outside of your home, be sure to secure them so they are wild-life safe! Deer, elk, and moose can get their horns tangled in string lights. Birds and bats can confuse blinking lights with prey. Secure your outside decor properly! Keep yourself, and your wild friends safe!
Speaking of securing things! If you live in an area that has bears, mountain lions, or any dumpster-enjoying predators, bear-proof your trash cans! You can use attachable mechanisms, locking trash cans, ratchet straps, or even try securing the trashcan to a tree or a post of some kind! Do your best to make sure the little critters cant get into the garbage. Not only are these animals not built for human food, prolonged exposure to human interaction can cause massive problems. Animals that attack or harm people run the risk of being put down. Keep everyone safe and secure your trash! At home and in the wilderness.
Shop carefully! I know we all try our best to buy cruelty free, reed labels, and do our research. In my personal opinion, I don't think I should have to google for 45 minutes to find out if a brand is greenwashing or if they're really cruelty free. So here are some things I've found! If a company imports to china, they are not cruelty free. China has animal testing laws in place for all imported cosmetics. If you want to buy things like Grove, those reusable spray bottles and soap bottles, but find the glass containers a little expensive, just buy the refill packs. Pop those bad boys into a bottle you already have, like a reused windex bottle, and it's the same. Just remember to label it properly! I love buying from companies like Sand Cloud, 4Ocean, Pela, and similar brands that are certified B-Corp and have clear and PROVABLE missions.

Tips on how to care and get connected with nature
1: Pick up trash
2: Avoid AI! Support actual artists/writers etc
3: Support/volunteer at animal shelters
4: Put out feeders and bird baths for the local critters
5: Plant trees or flowers outside or in your house (but make sure the trees/flowers are native to your area)
6: Talk or sing to your plants (yes plants love it)
7: This tip depends on the circumstances, but I've helped many stray dogs and cats that I randomly take in and care for till I find them a home
8: Instead of buying from factory farms, buy stuff from local farms or grow your own food
9: Spay and neuter pets (there's enough unwanted babies in the world)
10: Don't buy from breeders or puppy mills, get ones from shelters or pick up a stray
11: If you see an animal being abused or neglected, report it
12: Build birdhouses or bat boxes
13: Donate/volunteer to organizations that protect endangered species and natural habitats
14: Reuse containers, clothes, and bags instead of throwing them away, learn to sew stuff
15: Put out water for wild critters during hot weather
16: If you have leftover food, offer it to homeless or stray animals
17: Try to save electricity, open windows for sunlight, unplug chargers when not in use
18: Instead of cars, walk, bike, ride horse, bus or train
19: Go swimming in a lake, pond, river or ocean etc
20: Go barefoot often (in mud, grass, dirt, water)
21: Go bird watching and listen to their sounds and guess what type of bird it is or what the call means, take pictures, draw or write it down in a journal
22: Sit under a tree or by a stream, go for walks/hikes, look at the moon and stars, observe animal behaviour
23: Use a large rock to hold a door open, hold paper down or paint on, use a feather as a bookmark, make jewelry out of things you find in nature
24: Don't buy fur clothing/tails from fur farms or alligator skin pursues/shoes etc
25: Watch animal documentaries or read books
26: If you have a rodent problem, use the humane traps
27: Thank the earth

How to make your practice more ethical and eco-conscious (and less expensive!)
When we begin practicing witchcraft, and even when we consume a lot of witchy-related content online, it’s easy to get swept up in aesthetics and consumerism and lose touch with the essence of witchcraft: communion with nature. The worst thing that could happen is for our practice to harm the earth more than it heals it. This can manifest in a number of ways: buying endangered herbs and incense, unethically sourced crystals, not cleaning up after your rituals, etc. Here are some ways to make your practice more eco-conscious:
1. Use what you already have.
Your pantry is probably already stocked with a plethora of spices, herbs, oils and whatnot. Instead of buying a “prettier” version of those products, use them as they are or diy something. Ingenuity and creativity are great qualities to nurture as a witch! Need protection? Use dried crushed eggshells. Need to cleanse? Use rice, it absorbs energy! etc. Most of the time, you can find a replacement for the specific item described in a spell in your pantry. Instead of buying tons of books, borrow them from your public library and take notes in your notebook!
2. When you do buy, buy ethically and consciously.
There are so many online shops out there selling ethical products that are the same price or barely pricier than store-bought products, especially regarding crystals (I don’t have any names popping up right now, but they’re so easy to find). This also goes for candles, oils, incense, etc.
3. Be patient.
This sort of follows the last point. You don’t need 16 crystals right as you start your practice, nor that mega pack of candles at the dollar store. Most witches build their kit as time goes by; nobody starts with a fully stocked altar, and nobody expects you to. Be patient, focus on the items that you really want or need, and don’t buy every little thing that piques your interest. Buy less, buy better.
4. Buy locally.
Help your local businesses if you can. Shipping produces a lot of carbon dioxide, so avoid it as much as possible. The market is small and your local esoteric store (if you have one) is probably struggling. They’re also a great way to meet witches in your community and learn about local events! Of course, it’s always good to ask even your local business if they source their products ethically. If they don’t… well, choose the option that causes lesser harm. When shopping online, try to go to shops in your area, or in your country. The further you buy, the more carbon dioxide you produce. You can also find books, candles, scarves, veils and more at thrift stores!
5. Let go of aesthetics.
The internet has us believing that a witch looks a certain way, acts a certain way, dresses their altar a certain way, has a Book of Shadows that looks a certain way. Step away from all that noise, focus on what makes sense to you and go from there. If you already have one (or multiple) empty notebook that you don’t use, use it instead of buying another one for your magical practice (and decorate it!). Dress your candles yourself! Don’t buy into the “witch aesthetic”, it was created by capitalism to push us to buy more. Instead of accumulating, practice! Owning a lot of trinkets won’t make you a witch, practicing will.
6. Avoid endangered herbs and incenses (as well as herbs used in a specific closed practice).
There are a lot more endangered herbs than you know. We often hear of white sage, which is not only endangered but belongs to closed indigenous practice, but that also includes frankincense, sandalwood, dragon’s blood… do your research before you buy something! Do not contribute to the depleting of global resources. You probably don’t “need” that particular endangered herb for your spell. If you can, grow your own herbs for your spells! Their energy will be even stronger and befitted to you.
7. Source your information ethically!
Unless an author has specified they allowed readers to, do not pirate their books. Support your fellow practitioners, first, and second, the author might have put a hex on their book intended for pirates. Jason Miller definitely does (I’ve learned it the hard way). Also, do not buy books just for the purpose of having them. Having a stocked library does not make you a knowledgeable witch, reading does. Your local public library probably has dozens of books that relate to your practice: esoteric books as well as books on local flora and fauna, meditation, cooking with local ingredients, gardening, seasons, mythology, your local religion, the history of witchcraft/witch trials, etc. A lot of authors also have blogs where they post articles and advice outside of their books.
Side note: Audiobooks are a fully valid way of reading witchy books. Spotify Premium has complimentary audiobooks from Scott Cunningham, Ray Buckland, Jason Miller, Harmony Nice and more.
8. Do NOT use ChatGPT.
ChatGPT emits 8.4 tons of carbon dioxide per year, more than twice the amount that is emitted by an individual, which is 4 tons per year, not to mention each message you send to ChatGPT produces approximately 4.32 grams of CO2. Using ChatGPT to help you verify information, help you build a routine or write a spell is incredibly polluting and harmful to the environment. It also steals content from honest creators and steals revenue from them. Stay away from AI as much as possible.
That’s all I have for now. If anyone has any other ideas, feel free to add them to the post. Treat your land with respect, clean after yourself, and try to leave this earth better than you found it!

"there is no ethical consumption under capitalism" "you can criticize capitalism while participating in it" are both true and valid statements. but if you care about anti capitalism, your hands aren't wiped clean. acknowledging the problem is only the first step
yes, you can make money to survive & buy things to have fun. you can get things that aren't necessary to treat yourself. you can work your way up the corporate ladder.
some people resign themselves to their fate, as though capitalism is the way that things must be forever. but there's still questions you should ask yourself before deciding to drop all attempts at working against the system:
do you support/promote the culture of excessive buying?
how do you treat poor or otherwise disadvantaged people?
do you support local libraries, local businesses (if you can afford to), or other local organizations?
do you vote in favor of social services and education?
do you vote at all?
do you buy things in quantity over quality(lifespan) when you have the money to do either?
not everyone is an activist, but everyone has the power to vote with their money and with their ballot. telling yourself that there's no ethical consumption isn't a get out of jail free card. you don't have to be perfect or have to shop outside of your means or really go out of your way at all to take actions against capitalism. the main thing is that you care about people, your community, the environment, etc enough to care about your behaviors. that's all we can ask of anyone. to care
(this post is written about the US, I'm unclear on the situations in other countries)

Against the Anthropocentric Machine: On the Necessity of Ecological Resistance to Capitalist Devastation
Today marks World Environment Day, a symbolic annual observance intended to raise awareness about ecological crises and inspire action to preserve the Earth. Image taken from Internet Yet in an era defined by accelerating climate collapse, biospheric degradation, and the enclosure of commons into commodified data points, mere awareness is no longer sufficient—nor is celebration. What is needed…

Meet Sky Mother Nature! She is the embodiment of the sky, obviously. Her body represents clouds. Her mane and tail are the sunrise and the night sky! I kept her eyes grey and simple so most of the attention is on her hair!
Sky is one of the oldest epithets. It's often argued that Water is older, but when asked, Sky and Water will tell you they are the same age. Despite her ties to the air, Sky prefers walking. She is often seen flirting and dancing with Water. Though, when pressed, both deny having a relationship.
I just wanna clear up real fast that the Epithets are NOT related unless explicitly stated! Magma and Volcano are sisters, and Wetlands and Water are siblings. Peaceful also has a sibling we have yet to meet! Also, while I use mainly She/Her pronouns for the the Mother Nature Epithets, you can also use they/them! I really have fallen in love with this series and really enjoy making each little pony! Now for our eco-tips!
Many people have probably heard that being vegetarian or vegan is good for the planet. It is (as far as I know)! But there are lots of reasons you may not want to, or be unable to change your diet. And know you don't have to change your whole life to help! You can do one day a week with out meat, like doing meatless Mondays, tofu Tuesdays, etc. You can also buy your meet from small, local farms if you're able! And remember, friends! YOU eating a hamburger is NOT the big issue. The meat industry is.
Speaking of food, lets talk about bulk buying! If you have jars, bags, or containers, you can take them to a bulk-buy store, or to a grocery with bulk buy options, and fill them! Some stores have things like dried fruits, nuts, candy, or granola! Others have things like flour, pasta, sugar, and seasonings. There are also refill stores! Where you can bring your own container and refill it with beauty products like lotion or soap. Of course, not everyone has this option. For me, there aren't stores near me that offer these options, for others the cross-contamination can be deadly, and sometimes these stores can be expensive compared to their regular groceries. Do not feel bad!
If you don't really do the bulk-buy or refill thing, thats fine! When you're doing your regular shopping, try to avoid plastic when you can! Buy pasta in cardboard boxes, look for packaging that can be recycled, or just try to cut back on your plastic bags! There is no reason to feel shame about not keeping up with the bulk-buying insta girlies. They are on their journey, and you are on yours. Both are valid and important!
Speaking of grocery stores, if you don't have reusable bags, ask for paper if you can! Where I live, I often bag my own groceries. So if I ever forget my reusable bags, I ask for paper! Paper is compostable, curb-side recyclable, and is super easy to reuse in your every day life! Sometimes, companies that have recyclable packaging can up their prices just because they're "greener". Other times, plastic is just unavoidable. You are never the villain just for providing for yourself!
You know who the villains are? Politicians! I (very obviously) don't like or trust politicians. Even the "good" ones have their secrets and their own agendas. So contact them! Phone numbers, emails, fax numbers, and other communication pathways are often public information for public offices! So absolutely blast their inbox! Call them! Email them! Write them a letter! DM them online! Fax them! Make yourself clear and be direct. To be VERY clear, do not send threats, harass, or harm these people. They are still people, at the end of the day. I just want everyone to know, there are several ways to make your voices heard. Talking to each other online is amazing. But we must talk to our lawmakers too.

Eco-Friendly Driving: Tips for Reducing Your Carbon Footprint on the Road | DOS Driving School
Eco-Friendly Driving: Tips for Reducing Your Carbon Footprint on the Road | DOS Driving School
In this article, we’ll explore practical tips for eco-friendly driving that will help you reduce your carbon footprint and drive more sustainably.
1. Drive Smoothly: Avoid Sudden Acceleration and Hard Braking
One of the simplest ways to drive more eco-friendly is to avoid aggressive driving. Sudden acceleration and hard braking consume more fuel and increase your carbon emissions. By driving smoothly and gradually, you can improve your fuel efficiency and reduce your environmental impact.
Eco-Friendly Driving Tip:
Try to anticipate traffic flow and adjust your speed to avoid rapid acceleration or stopping suddenly. This reduces fuel consumption and helps your car run more efficiently.
2. Maintain a Steady Speed
Maintaining a steady speed on highways or city streets helps improve fuel efficiency. Constantly speeding up and slowing down wastes gas and increases emissions. Many modern cars are equipped with cruise control, which is a great tool to maintain a constant speed on long trips and highways.
Eco-Friendly Driving Tip:
Use cruise control on highways to maintain a steady speed and avoid unnecessary acceleration or braking.
3. Reduce Your Idling Time
Idling your vehicle for extended periods of time wastes fuel and contributes to unnecessary emissions. If you’re stopped for more than 30 seconds, it’s often more efficient to turn off your engine and restart it when you’re ready to move.
Eco-Friendly Driving Tip:
Turn off your engine if you expect to be stopped for a while (such as waiting at a long red light or in a parking lot).
4. Keep Your Tires Properly Inflated
Under-inflated tires can reduce fuel efficiency and increase your carbon emissions. When your tires aren’t properly inflated, your vehicle has to work harder to move, consuming more fuel and emitting more CO2.
Eco-Friendly Driving Tip:
Check your tire pressure regularly (at least once a month) and keep them inflated to the manufacturer’s recommended levels. This can improve fuel efficiency by up to 3%.
5. Lighten the Load: Reduce Extra Weight in Your Vehicle
The heavier your car is, the harder it has to work to move, leading to increased fuel consumption. Avoid carrying unnecessary items in your car and remove roof racks when not in use to reduce wind resistance.
Eco-Friendly Driving Tip:
Clean out your car regularly to avoid carrying unnecessary weight. If you don’t need a roof rack, take it off to reduce wind drag and improve fuel efficiency.
6. Plan Your Trips Efficiently
Planning your routes ahead of time can help you avoid traffic jams, long waits at red lights, and unnecessary detours. By combining errands and driving when traffic is lighter, you can reduce the time you spend idling and improve your fuel efficiency.
Eco-Friendly Driving Tip:
Use navigation apps that help you avoid traffic and take the most direct route to your destination. This reduces the time spent on the road and helps you use less fuel.
7. Opt for an Eco-Friendly Vehicle
If you’re in the market for a new car, consider purchasing a vehicle with better fuel efficiency or one that uses alternative energy sources, such as electric or hybrid cars. These vehicles produce fewer emissions and consume less fuel, reducing your carbon footprint significantly.
Eco-Friendly Driving Tip:
Consider investing in a hybrid or electric vehicle for maximum fuel efficiency and a reduction in carbon emissions. At DOS Driving School, we also offer eco-driving tips for students learning to drive green vehicles.
8. Keep Your Car Well-Maintained
Regular vehicle maintenance ensures that your car is running efficiently, which can reduce emissions and improve fuel economy. Regular oil changes, air filter replacements, and keeping the engine in good condition can go a long way in maintaining your car’s efficiency.
Eco-Friendly Driving Tip:
Follow your car’s maintenance schedule for oil changes, air filter replacements, and general servicing to ensure your car is running at peak efficiency.
9. Drive at Moderate Speeds
Driving at high speeds leads to higher fuel consumption and more emissions. When you drive at speeds over 50 mph, fuel efficiency decreases significantly. By keeping your speed moderate and obeying speed limits, you’ll use less fuel and reduce your carbon footprint.
Eco-Friendly Driving Tip:
Stick to speed limits and avoid driving aggressively. Not only will you save fuel, but you’ll also be driving more safely.
10. Use Air Conditioning Wisely
While using air conditioning (AC) can provide comfort, it can also increase fuel consumption. If you’re driving at lower speeds, it’s more efficient to open the windows for ventilation. However, at higher speeds, using the AC may be more fuel-efficient than having the windows open due to the drag caused by open windows.
Eco-Friendly Driving Tip:
Use air conditioning wisely—use it when necessary, but try to open the windows at low speeds for ventilation. At high speeds, using the AC may be a more efficient choice than driving with the windows open.
Conclusion: Drive Green with DOS Driving School
Eco-friendly driving doesn’t just help the environment—it can also save you money on fuel and reduce wear and tear on your car. By following these simple tips for reducing your carbon footprint on the road, you can contribute to a greener, cleaner planet while becoming a more efficient and responsible driver.
At DOS Driving School, we believe that responsible driving includes making eco-conscious choices. Whether you’re learning to drive for the first time or looking to improve your driving habits, our instructors can help you become a safer, more environmentally-friendly driver.
