Gym journaling
4/10/2024. Wednesday 6:35pm
I work out in one of two gyms I'm a member of most mornings. I've noticed that at least 3 other men working out carry note books and pens during their work outs. After they complete a set, they pause to make notes in their note books. I assume that they are detailing what routines they completed and what progress they have made. They seem to be religious in their gym work out documentation. It dawned on me recently, what if they documented their routine and then expanded out their description to include detail s of the gym? Who else is working out? What happened before they came to the gym? What did they think that the rest of the day would hold? What motivates them to hit the gym every day?. How do they feel about their bodies? Or, other bodies in the gym? In other words, they could use their gym journal as a platform to launch a full scale journal experience of their lives. The fact that they are using note books and pens and not documenting their workout on line some how is significant. Pen to page is a cathartic physical act. So is weight lifting. The journal is a physical permanent record of the day. Not being on line, it is private. They have the journaling technique down. The journaling habit is ingrained and they are loyal to it. Very difficult to achieve that. Now, they need to release it from the constraints of a gym only journal. They can take that journal out into the day and document their experiences, insights, sorrows and joys. And, how their work outs influence the rest of their lives. So, these are just some of my gym thoughts and fantasies that came to me as I work out. Maybe I should try starting a gym journal myself!
