Simself Update

I thought it was about time that I did a #simself update. I've learnt so much about making sims, my favourite cc creators and items. So here’s me! I absolutely love the simblr neutral aesthetic but I'm a water girlie who loves pink! Can I surf, not well, but there's no cute snorkeling or scuba cc accessories so the board will have to do!

Hi. Question, what is Gabriel's fashion style? In the show he's apparently the king of fashion but some of his designs suck tbh...

I'm not going to pretend that I understand high fashion enough to label Gabriel's style. I'm also not sure if the animators understand high fashion enough to label his style. Nothing about the show actually screams "fashion" to the point where I can't tell if the akumas are bad on purpose or not.

While you can connect certain akumas to specific high fashion looks such as loosely linking The Bubbler to Vivian Westwood's 1989 Harlequin suit (see below images), I don't think that's what the animators were actually doing. Any high-fashion similarities are probably an accident, especially since the word of god is that akumas choose their own appearances. Gabriel officially had nothing to do with the designs. Given all of that, it's far more likely that the various designs come from the animators trying to keep things interesting while working within the confines of animation.

3D animation greatly limits what looks you can do. It's incredibly costly to animate a new character or even just a new outfit. That's why the characters generally only have one look and why most of Marinette's designs are things like accessories and posters. Those are way easier to animate!

Outfits and character designs also have to greatly limit their moving parts as each uniquely moving element vastly increases the cost. It's why all of the characters with long hair transform into heroes with pigtails or pony tales. Animating those is way easier than free flowing hair because you can treat those as one unit without it looking too bad, but free-flowing hair just looks silly as you can see when Marinette is riding her scooter:

I don't think any of this excuses the show's bad fashion sense, though. They chose to make the lead and the villain fashion designers. That's a choice with obvious repercussions for the way people will view the show and yet the show's fashion elements feel as slapdash as the Chinese elements, showing a clear lack of care for the world they're trying to create. It feels like fashion was only included because girls like fashion and not a choice made because the show wanted to root itself in the setting (Paris is the fashion capital of the world). While it's fun to joke about how terrible Gabriel and others look, when I get serious, I'm way more judgmental of the creators than the characters.

Knowing how to design a character isn't the same as understanding fashion. It is a specialty unto itself. A true field of expertise that people spend their lives learning. It's also a field that gets a lot of flack for being "girly" with women often being judged for caring too much about fashion. Those are two things you need to keep in mind if you're going to make fashion a big focus of your show for girls. And if you're going to have episodes focused on environmentalism? Maybe talk about fast fashion and not non-issues like trash being blasted into space?

What I'm saying is that, if you want to have a show or story focus on the fashion industry, then you do need to do some actual research and, ideally, hire someone to help guide those elements. A thing the writers absolutely could have done since they have the money for that! I don't think that's the route they took, though. I've never heard anyone mention it. Fashion doesn't even feel like a major part of Marinette's character! She rarely talks about it.

All of which is a very long winded way to say that I fully agree that a lot of the show's designs suck, but I think that fact is just one of the many little ways you can see how little care was put into the baseline world building. If Gabriel was a movie director instead and Marinette wanted to be a director too, then the bad fashion would still be commented on, but it wouldn't feel like a mark against the characters. Alternatively, the show could have used the bad fashion as a running gag in the show about Gabriel being bad at his job. Instead, we get people claiming that Gabriel is a great designer and I'm just sitting here going, "you couldn't even get this minor element right? Really?"

James picked up knitting and crocheting because it's something relatively mindless that occupies their hands. They don't do it at school or outside of the dorms (though it would help them get through their classes) aside from the occasional quidditch game they attend (though they usually get more distracted by the plays) because there's the whole thing where 'masculine people shouldn't do girly things like crocheting' and 'if you knit, you must be an old woman' and they don't want to have that spread around.

That being said, ever since they took up crochet and knitting, their childhood friend Remus has been the subject of many of their projects. Yes, they make things for themself -- especially in later years when they start experimenting with mesh shirts and layered clothing -- but the main person they make for is Remus.

James makes all of Remus's sweaters. They memorised a bunch of patterns that they know he likes, and they work with him to figure out colours that Remus wants. It's to the point where all of the sweaters and sweater vests in Remus' trunk were made by James, with the exception of one or two that friends have bought him, and Remus loves their sweaters. They're comfortable, made of a soft yarn, fit him just right no matter what, and they're more Remus than any store bought ones he can find (not to mention free, good quality sweaters aren't cheap and James lives making them for him).

Needless to say, whenever someone makes fun of Remus' sweaters or him for wearing them, he's always going to James to comfort them because they take any insults to their creations as an insult to them. There have been times when Remus has had to physically force James' hook or needles into their hands for them to pick up the hobby that they love so much again.

James' friends have just come to accept it, cone to understand that James is still paying attention to them even when it seems like they're focused on whatever project they're working on -- Remus and Regulus, after they started dating, will carry around balls of yarn, scissors, and a set of James' favourite sizes of hooks and needles in case they need a breather and they don't have their current WIP.

They make their friends things too, usually fun tank tops and amigurumis for the girls (skirts and dresses after Lily finds an old woman's pattern magazine for them), hair accessories for Sirius, random things that Pete, Barty, and Evan ask for. For Regulus, they've made him a sweater once but decided that they only want to make those for Remus, they'll make crochet flowers and blankets for him (because he's always cold) and Regulus loves it.

It just becomes a fact that James does fiber art, they love making things, and they now have a large audience for them to make for (which was always a struggle, they make things much faster than Remus could need them).

They later find out that Remus still has some of the first things that they made: ill-fitted, wonky things with weird tension that are falling apart both due to use and an inexperienced creator. That fact alone makes their heart swell.

i've already posted this one here, that's how much i love it! if you love kpop, you will love this too. @trillyke's HOT MESS collection is inspired by Aespa. trillyke describes it as "grunge" and "y2k", which is true! but the items (imo) are super versatile if you are into making alt sims from so many aesthetics! i personally am obsessed with the MANY accessories, my favorite being "melody's headphones"!

switching gears, if you are into the "model off-duty", "clean girl" look. you are going to OBSESS over @twisted-cat's OVERRIDE COLLECTION. the items are super classic and elegant, and work beautifully together. but they are also basics, so they can work with other items in your collection as well! i wish these were part of my irl wardrobe, that's how much i love them.

@arethabee is probably one of my favorite cc creators ever (and to be fully transparent, i am a member of her patreon!). her ritual collection is INSANE, especially if you are into 90s fashion, or whimsigoth imo. if you are obsessed with charmed or phoebe from friends (if she was a witch), you are going to fall for this cc as much as me! my personal favorite items are the cordelia (beetlejuice reference maybe???) cardigan and the aradia (so many possible references, i'm having a hard time) skirt. btw, i think she really succeeded with her goal of being "witchy" but "casual". let me know if i missed anything, but there will definitely be a part 2! i really love downloading collections to make cohesive looks for my sims. i like them to kind of stick to an aesthetic, and collections are so good for that. [This is my first post so just a couple characters, I take requests !! also I'll make X reader if i feel like i can represent the character authenticity !!]

Eyeless jack

HE IS A BLACK BRITISH GOTH.

I think his hair would be a bit past shoulder length, probably in locs or twists.

Maybe a bit grown out but I think he'd perfer it like that, since yk organ harvesting with freshly retwisted hair isn't exactly ideal.

Also hair jewelry?? I think he'd prefer something metal n sturdy, something that can withstand the wear and tear of his hunts with out breaking. (Yes I've been affected by that one fanart of ej with locs and hair jewelry)

I think he has a habit of wearing his hair infront of his face to hide his eyes, I think his eyes in particular are something he's especially sore about. However if he needs to I think he'd tie back his hair with a scrunchy into a ponytail or a high bun.

His hair probably just smells earthy I guess?? I don't think he'd really have BO since he's at least partially demon. I think he'd just smell like actual dirt or soil, or maybe rubbing alcohol if he's been doing surgical junk.

Nina Hopkins

Let me start this off by saying that in my AU she is Afro Venezuelan, because A) @/seireitonin on tt has the coolest cosplay of her, so that imprinted on my verson of Nina. And B) the orginal creator of NTK is Venezuelan (or at least lives in Venezuela from what I know), and since no ethnic or racial background was mentioned in her original story I think of her as Venezuelan by default. :33

I think when her hair wasn't straightened it'd be in colorful goddess braids or soft locs, probably styled with a deep side part like most scene and emo hair.

Owns clip on raccoon tails in every color you can think of, the black stripes drawn in with sharpie.

I think once she matured she's since abandoned a ponytail as her main style and has her hair down more often. Other than killer activities or if she wants her hair out of the way.

Nasty, greasy, fithy, matte-

Let's just say he doesn't beat the greasy haired metal head stereotype.

I think his neglection of his hair is partly because of his mental illness, and also because he genuinely just doesn't care about his appearance past his carved smile and how intimidating he looks (or that's at least what he says). Chosing not to dive into how insecure I think he really is though !!

I think he'd complain about his hair getting in his face but doesnt use most hair ties/accessories because he thinks they're "too girly". He has a bad habit of using regular rubber bands in his hair and they rip or beak his hair off.

His hair is matted in certain sections (me too Jeff, me too) and between the lack of consistent water sources and horrible personal hygiene in general, his hair doesn't smell the best. I think if he isn't living in the mansion (which I headcanon a lot of the creeps squat in other places, since being in the mansion means being closer to slenderman so more work + fights w other creeps other for space.) then he'd just shower in a victims home if he really wanted to.

Jeff dyes his hair black and it is so incredibly damaged, he misses spots when dying and if you get up close you can see it.

Has had the same brush since he was a teenager (no emotional attachment he just thinks the brush makes no difference anyway) and refuses to spend money to get a new one becuase "this one still works"

section 3: fashion, beauty, and lifestyle

coquette style going viral: even though the viral coquette aesthetic this year wasn’t exactly like the og tumblr-era coquette, it embraced all the girly vibes we love—soft pinks, dainty bows, pearls, and those feminine silhouettes that made us feel like princesses. it felt like it was a revival to the girly style cherished back in 2014, bringing back the elegance and charm that we’ve missed in mainstream fashion for so long!

the rise of bows, ribbons, and lace: feminine details were everywhere in 2024. from hair accessories to clothing with bows, ribbons and lace, these added a dreamy, fairytale feel to outfits. i love that we’re embracing big bows in our hair and dainty clips, even featuring our fave sanrio characters. they evoke vibes of simpler times, and reminded me of the bethany mota’s videos where she shared her accessorizing tips for the seasons!

uggs and ballerinas everywhere: our 2010s classics made a full-on comeback this year. uggs were styled with everything from oversized sweaters to cute mini skirts, just like we used to do back in the day. and don’t even get me started on ballet flats—they became the it shoe again. so many brands launched modern versions of these staples, it felt so nostalgic yet fresh at the same time.

clean girl makeup: the effortless, natural makeup look became a huge trend this year, and i couldn’t help but think of the soft glam aesthetic we adored in 2013-2014. the clean girl vibe with glowy skin, soft blush, glossy lips, and fluffy lashes reminded me so much of early madison beer and ariana grande selfies!

VS fashion show comeback: okay, i have SO much to say about this. i personally loved the victoria’s secret fashion show comeback. of course, it wasn’t exactly like the original shows we obsessed over in the 2010s, but it was still such a moment. iconic models walked the runway, i loved watching kate moss doing her debut on VS, barbara palvin honestly slays, and adriana lima left me SPEECHLESS. alessandra ambrossio, candice swanepoel and maty fall were some more of my faves! i really liked the fact that you could shop the collection this year, that detail made the show feel so more connected to us. it was definitely the event of the year for the girlies! like, we used to sit and watch these shows religiously back then, and now we’re doing it again!! i’m honestly so glad their runways are back <3

dress to impress: 2024 saw the return of nostalgic fashion games, with dress to impress going viral. from asmr videos of girls playing to coquette, y2k and gyaru outfits being created in the game, this year it was so cool to spend time playing dress up online! i used to do it all the time back in the 2010s.

“that girl” being the new “it girl”: remember when lauren conrad’s books and the 2010s blogger era were everything? well, 2024 reinvented the “it girl” in the form of “that girl.” influencers and creators who share glam lifestyles, productivity tips, and chic jobs like fashion marketing are basically the modern-day version of the 2010s fashionista bloggers. everyone wants to emulate her! i’m so here for it.

back to analog: if 2014 was all about tumblr aesthetics, 2024 was about living that aesthetic. scrapbooking, instant cameras, and physical journals became trendy again, bringing back the charm of analog creativity. decorating a journal or filling a photo album with polaroids felt so personal, almost like reviving the simple joys we cherished in the rosy blog era.

and that’s a wrap on my series! 2024 truly felt like a love letter to 2014 in so many ways. i’m so glad we got to experience all of these nostalgic moments from those golden years. thank you for reading honey, it’s been the loveliest way to end the year!

maybe I’m severely missing something but what are you so concerned that Daniel might say? Like he’ll say something offensive or that he’ll talk about f1 like I’m suuuper lost. I’m assuming it’s just gonna be low ball short interviews about his brand

to be clear, i don't think he's going to say anything worthwhile but your last sentence does bring up a particular brand of beef I have with this.

This is an enchante event, which begs the question: what the hell is that brand? It's seemed for quite some time that he's been trying to diversify its consumer base and move away from the merch company that began as Ric3 and into a more general apparel and accessories brand. I have a whole ass opinion on Enchante that I won't get into here (as a fan and a consumer) but at it's core, the lack of any kind of true brand identity is the biggest problem. Is enchante a standalone apparel brand influenced by Daniel Ricciardo that appeals to a larger audience or is it motorsports (primarily f1) based merch that requires his continued presence in and engagement with that community to exist?

As you said, they're probably talking about the brand and the popup. And if the point of pop-ups like this in nyc and away from any Grand Prix interaction is to reach a larger audience base who are maybe aware of him and the brand but not diehard enough to go to a race, then there are 8 billion fashion girly content creators in New York or the larger northeast region with a passing interest in f1 who he could’ve talked to and reached a different subset of consumers (and maybe he did? What we’ve seen is definitely one singular moment from an entire night).

But then if it’s just a motorsports based merch brand and they just want to keep promoting it as such within that fan base, what is an interview with the red flags podcast bros about enchante going to do for the brand? The people who consume that content are already aware of the brand and aren't going to be swayed into buying something by another interview with daniel if they haven't already.

And right now any f1 related media like this is going to get picked up and run with by the larger f1 community (even if most of the questions don't have anything to do with f1) and his team know that. So it’s just interesting that red flags is the platform they’ve chosen when they’re fully in control here and could have their pick.

And did my best with the fashion, because while this game has excellent armor designs (that don’t change between sex most of the time and are properly adapted to the character’s physique) I do find it to be a bit lackluster in the non armor/regular clothes department. Wish there were more girly outfits, hair and accessories. And to be able to change colour schemes. But I digress.

And when people finally ran out of physical space to keep these giant water bottles, they pivoted to packing their Amazon Storefronts with Stanley accessories. And since there's no such thing as a "water bottle accessory" they also had to provide their audience with what they should buy to put IN their new "water bottle pouch". You know, like Rhode Summer Fridays lipbalms, and Wipe That Tushy! wipes, Touchland hand sanitizer (which they will have undoubtedly filmed being removed from it's brand new packaging and spritzed–uselessly–into the air before being gently shoved inside the too-small zip pocket), tiny packets of advil (how many headaches a day are we getting girlies lets check in with our doctors about chronic conditions!), Dior Lip Oil (so different from a lip balm), nail cuticle oil, mini deodorant, hair ties (multiple! sometimes both scrunchie and clip!), hand cream, and of course their YSL card carrier. Since no trend exists without parody, you can now find more videos mocking these videos than the originals. But the mockeries all include the name-brand water bottle and accessories. So the "joke" of putting Zyn or cocaine into one of the little containers falls more than a bit flat for me. It's engagement bait. It's hollow because satire requires effort. And ultimately, they've still had to purchase the products. It's the same feeling I get when I watch any of the videos and see they've filled their reusable water bottle with water from plastic bottles. I know it's rage bait! I know they're just doing it so that the comments will be flooded with people pointing out this decision as stupid! But more importantly it is now also filled with people "defending" these creators for these choices. (Which I just have to state over and over again, the person filming the video made on purpose to generate this exact outcome!)

2024 Back to School Must Haves

The start of the school year is coming up quick. So, like it or not, it’s time to get ready. This year is a massive year for me. It’s the beginning of my master’s journey, so you know I gotta get set. 

This is the first time I am sharing my back-to-school list like this, and I must admit, it’s a bit daunting. Yet, giving you a peek inside my backpack can provide a unique opportunity for us to share on this journey.

MSI Prestige Laptop

Your laptop is the backbone of nearly everything you do in College or University. I picked up the MSI Prestige last year and have no regrets. I do everything on this laptop, from gaming, to content creation, and schoolwork, and it has never let me down.

I am very much a Laptop/Android girlie. You can use an app called Phone Link to link your phone and Android devices to access your phone files directly on your laptop. This is super helpful because I find that I take a lot of pictures of the front boards during lectures. This just lets me skip having to upload to the cloud, etc.

In saying that, when I upgrade, I will probably grab the MSI Creator Laptop if I continue to do a lot of video editing and content creation.

Logitech Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Combo

I am not very proficient with a track pack and don’t ever plan to be. So, when I am at home, I insist on using my wireless keyboard and mouse. It just makes life worth living.

I’ve tried a few, but this Logitec combo is the easiest to use. It feels the best while typing, it’s the most responsive, and I’m not changing out batteries every week. Easy peasy!

Samsung S6 Tablet

I am a girl that likes to have choices. While I usually prefer to take my notes by hand, I admit there are some classes where I take notes by typing. When I do this, I don’t always want to lug around my laptop. You know, choices!

That’s where my tablet comes in. I love the versatility of having a tablet or iPad. You can use the S pen or a keyboard case to give you the flexibility to take notes however you want.

A keyboard case with a tablet is the best option for the days you want to pack light. I found that this was especially nice when I had long days with labs. Carrying my laptop with my lab coat and supplies just became tedious and cumbersome. I much preferred to take my tablet because it weighed nothing.

Attaching the keyboard case to my tablet made it basically like a little touch-screen laptop. It merged all the benefits of being able to type my notes if needed while being aero-dynamic!

Planning and Organization

My planner is essential to my day-to-day functioning. I use it to help me plan my days, keep track of my dos, and log my progress. Because being organized is so crucial to my success, I like to indulge myself when it comes to my planning accessories.

Investing in this planner took me a lot of time and contemplation, but ultimately, I decided that if I was going to make big girl moves, I needed a big girl planner.

Cloth & Paper has an insert bundle specifically designed for students. This allows you to track your assignments and exams and plan your entire year. If you are just getting started with your planner journey, this is an excellent place to start. Having all the spaces already mapped out will limit how overwhelming staring at blank pages can be.

KOKUYO Campus Notebook

These are the highest-rated notebooks in the world, and for good reason. They are butter smooth, lay flat regardless of what page you are on, and are the perfect hybrid of lined and dot-matrix sheets. This helps to space out your writing, diagrams, and charts more easily to make the best use of every page. They are probably the most satisfying notebook I have ever owned.

Stationery

You might not get this if pens are just pens to you, but I am obsessed with pens. I have different preferences depending on the use.

Mitsubishi Pencil Uni-Ball One – is a great all-around pen, especially if you like a thinner tip.

Muji Smooth Gel Ink Ballpoint Pen Knock Type — Muji pens are the holy grail of many stationery enthusiasts. While some people prefer the traditional version with the caps, I find these click ones more my cup of tea.

BIC Gelocity Quick Dry Black Gel Pens – This is my jam when I’m slumming it at the back of the lecture hall. These are some of the best note-taking pens around. They are thicc, smooth, and oh-so-satisfying. If I am going for speed or distance, this is my go-to.

Pencil Pouch – You need something to hold it all together.

Zebra Pen Mildliner Double-Ended Highlighter Set – Mildliners are by far my favourite highlighter. I’m pretty sure I have every colour.

Sticky Notes

I purchase my sticky notes from Cloth & Paper as well. They have so many colours and shapes. It is easy to find ones that fit with the aesthetic. I use them for both my planner and my school notes.
