Yuri and Nightfall were both created for somewhat the same purpose. Characters just to add chaos and tension in the Forger's dynamic. For that reason their entire identity was formed around a specific Forger. In a similar sense, Emile and Ewen also existed as auxiliary characters to Damian not much individuality assigned to either.

Normally, these types of characters would be bound to these minor roles and never grow independent of the other characters. Instead, in the last three chapters, we see an intentional effort on Endo's side to continue their growth and development into individuals.

Emile and Ewen started as little echoes for Damian, following him around like tiny mindless goons. Now, although they still exist as a duo and their role is still very tied to Damian, they are shown to have a genuine relationship with him. They're not just in it for the clout, Damian is their friend and they truly care about him and all his flaws.

Nightfall and Yuri are obviously more complicated.

Yuri has a very troubled relationship with his sister. Their shared past resulted in him being very codependent on her and building his entire identity and sense of purpose around her. Now that his sister is married and moved on (i will not expand on that), he is left feeling like an empty shell of himself. He now is a position where he has to find a new sense of purpose while also questioning the choices that he has made throughout his life for the sake of his sister.

The chapter ends with him accepting that his sister is happy and there is nothing more he can do for her, that their lives have forever changed and they cant go back to the way it was. Their home is in the city now and he has to come to terms with what that means for their relationship. In the end, he decides to go out with his coworkers and try to live a little, outside of sister.

Not much is known about Nightfall. Her motives are still ambiguous and defined around Twilight. I have my own personal explanation but the canon still dances around the topic. While her past is still ambiguous, her present circumstances are clear. She is very devoted to Twilight to the point where she routinely risks her health for his sake. She has this idea that for him to love her she needs to be absolutely perfect and should never show any weakness. A moment I found funny was when she needs to cough and blow her nose but refused to do it in front of Twilight. Reminds me of a short story I read for one of my classes, Bride by Cheerie Jones.

So much of what Jones described as the perfect wife is the same things Nightfall tries to do to gain the romantic attention of Twilight. It also shows why she resents Yor because beyond the fact that she has Twilight she doesn't have to be perfect for him. Yor rattles everything that Nightfall believes about herself and again leaves her feeling empty and confused. Again, there is some optimism to her story. Seeing that Twilight still cares for her even when she is not perfect, that his concern for her is not contingent on her being perfect. She is finally able to rest and recover once he leaves her with that simple expression of concern.

I don't know what motivates her or why she specifically craves Twilight's affection but my most optimistic theory is that he represents someone that she wants. Someone who cares for her. Twilight does care for so I am guessing her drive is less to get his care but to preserve it and earn it. She is just seeking his validation the best way she knows how.

my favourite concept that i barely see in l&co fandom being talked about is Lucy grieving Skull. whether you see their relationship as platonic or ship skullyle, it's stupid to deny the fact that Lucy grew to care about Skull, her actions in epilogue being the heartbreaking glimpse into the new reality for her and her friends after the events of TEG:

“I don’t know why you insist on having it with us for each meal.” (Holly) “It’s that horrid charcoaled skull Lucy insists on carrying around with her.” (Holly) I’d wrapped it up and taken it home, and kept it with me ever since, just in case.

here i want to say that im not a fan of idea of Skull eventually "coming back", re-materialising. it defeats the moral of Lockwood & Co and the growth that Skull underwent. past is meant to stay the past, living can only learn from it while dead will forever exist there. no one should disturb the dead, the past, it needs to be left at rest and let it hold its memory.

Skull wanted and longed for freedom, at first defined by breaking out of silver-glass prison, but later, very clearly defined by the peace of mind. he was scared of death as much as Bickerstaff was, that's why Skull turned his back on the other side, he chose to stay here, in the world of the living. i always read his decision to save both Lucy and Lockwood as him admitting that he could never be a part of the living world (cough could never compete with what lockwood, alive boy, could give lucy cough), so he pushed the two away as he stayed in the room with Marissa, Penelope and Ezekiel.

to me, the best ending to Skull's story is him passing on his terms, not the explosion destroying his connection with the source, but contemplating what he sees himself doing after Lucy suggested him staying with L&Co. Skull declines her offer. and chooses freedom.

obviously, that's my reading and how i prefer to interpret L&Co's ending. (it's also the reason i can't accept that christmas special as canon, im sorry, i hate happiness).

but that leaves Lucy and her newfound need of keeping skull near her at all times since Fittes HQ explosion, her wishful thinking that he'd come back. and i want to see her go through painful acceptance of losing Skull. losing a someone that she never got to know closer. losing a chance to get to know him as a friend, to admitting to have found a friend in Skull, a kindred spirit. losing someone who understood her and knew her deepest fears because these two deeply traumatised teens were so alike. losing something that she chose to define herself and her worth by. Lucy would have to come to terms with how much of a support system she had in Skull. and now, she'd have to navigate without it.

Lucy makes a remark that i can't stop thinking about.

Whenever I put my fingers on it, I got no psychic charge. The bone was dry and cold.

i could go on a rampage theorising why Lucy can't feel anything despite a) her having a strong Touch b) objects that are not sources are still able to hold strong psychic echoes. but i feel like Stroud was trying to wrap up the story and didn't want to introduce a whole new storyline of Lucy picking up fragments of Skull's past. which is a shame. i would kill for such story to be told. (please hit me up if you do.)

but say she really can't pick up anything, Skull is gone and there's not a psychic trace left of him. where does Lucy find herself then? constantly checking the skull with all her senses, wishing to see a green spark dance around the (former) source, to hear a whispery insult in her ear, to feel just anything with her touch. but it's all gone. there's nothing left. no one left. everyone else is moving on, hurries Lucy to get rid of that horrid old bone, but how can she? how can she bring herself to get rid of the only thing left? the only thing left on earth to remember a nameless boy by? the boy who could've been her friend, but she failed to trust him? failed to say thank you?

with each passing day Lucy’d feel worse because she knows how she looks to her friends, to agents, to the ones saving London from violent visitors every night, putting their lives on the line. and here she sits, wishing a ghost to appear in her attic room when she's the most vulnerable at heart.

bonus points for Lucy picking up a pencil and trying to recreate the boy she saw on the other side on paper while the memory is still fresh, while she still remembers. (but also, if we view books as Lucy's memoirs, it would make Skull's bare-bone description even more sad because that would mean older Lucy forgot the details).

what im trying to incoherently say is, Lucy would grieve. and having read almost all of the books Stroud wrote, i see that he has a very intimate relationship with grief and mourning the loss of someone dear to the point where he explores different sides and intensities of it, how each of his characters goes through it, in every single book of his. (i believe, i have three more books of his to read).

How much/quickly do you think AI is going to expand and improve materials science? It feels like a scientific field which is already benefiting tremendously.

My initial instinct was yes, MSE is already benefiting tremendously as you said. At least in terms of the fundamental science and research, AI is huge in materials science. So how quickly? I'd say it's already doing so, and it's only going to move quicker from here. But I'm coming at this from the perspective of a metallurgist who works in/around academia at the moment, with the bias that probably more than half of my research group does computational work. So let's take a step back.

So, first, AI. It's... not a great term. So here's what I, specifically, am referring to when I talk about AI in materials science:

Most of the people I know in AI would refer to what they do as machine learning or deep learning, so machine learning tends to be what I use as a preferred term. And as you can see from the above image, it can do a lot. The thing is, on a fundamental level, materials science is all about how our 118 elements (~90, if you want to ignore everything past uranium and a few others that aren't practical to use) interact. That's a lot of combinations. (Yes, yes, we're not getting into the distinction between materials science, chemistry, and physics right now.) If you're trying to make a new alloy that has X properties and Y price, computers are so much better at running through all the options than a human would be. Or if you have 100 images you want to analyze to get grain size—we're getting to the point where computers can do it faster. (The question is, can they do it better? And this question can get complicated fast. What is better? What is the size of the grain? We're not going to get into 'ground truth' debates here though.) Plenty of other examples exist.

Even beyond the science of it all, machine learning can help collect knowledge in one place. That's what the text/literature bubble above means: there are so many old articles that don't have data attached to them, and I know people personally who are working on the problem of training systems to pull data from pdfs (mainly tables and graphs) so that that information can be collated.

I won't ramble too long about the usage of machine learning in MSE because that could get long quickly, and the two sources I'm linking here cover that far better than I could. But I'll give you this plot from research in 2019 (so already 6 years out of date!) about the growth of machine learning in materials science:

I will leave everyone with the caveat though, that when I say machine learning is huge in MSE, I am, as I said in the beginning, referring to fundamental research in the field. From my perspective, in terms of commercial applications we've still got a ways to go before we trust computers to churn out parts for us. Machine learning can tell researchers the five best element combinations to make a new high entropy alloy—but no company is going to commit to making that product until the predictions of the computer (properties, best processing routes, etc.) have been physically demonstrated with actual parts and tested in traditional ways.

Certain computational materials science techniques, like finite element analysis (which is not AI, though might incorporate it in the future) are trusted by industry, but machine learning techniques are not there yet, and still have a ways to go, as far as I'm aware.

So as for how much? Fundamental research for now only. New materials and high-throughput materials testing/characterization. But I do think, at some point, maybe ten years, maybe twenty years down the line, we'll start to see parts made whose processing was entirely informed by machine learning, possibly with feedback and feedforward control so that the finished parts don't need to be tested to know how they'll perform (see: Digital twins (Wikipedia) (Phys.org) (2022 article)). At that point, it's not a matter of whether the technology will be ready for it, it'll be a matter of how much we want to trust the technology. I don't think we'll do away with physical testing anytime soon.

But hey, that's just one perspective. If anyone's got any thoughts about AI in materials science, please, share them!

See, the way this season builds, I sometimes disagree with Mr. Ackles and writers a little bit. There are times, like this, that I can almost hear Dean internally screaming. "It's not about responsibility, idiot! I LOVE you!"

Ah, the Dean-Cas dilemma: "Your safety doesn't affect JUST YOU, it affects ME because I LOVE YOU."

Pot-kettle, and around and around we go.

This is a far cry from their squabbling the first time Cas came back in 5x01.

While the writers and Jensen Ackles may have said that Dean wasn’t ready to verbalize "I love you" yet, I think there’s a strong case to be made that Dean maybe was ready, or at least primed to accidentally spit it out under duress, because he had already figured it out and had been constantly ruminating over it.

Dean’s journey with Cas, especially through seasons 7 and 8, shows such a clear progression in his emotional growth. By the time he was to say those words in 8x17, to me it doesn't read as a spontaneous or out-of-the-blue confession—it’s the culmination of everything he’s been through, everything he’s realized, and the deep emotional understanding he’s come to through the contrast of his other relationships, in the past trying to fit into a white picket fence ideal and the contrast of recent soldierly camaraderie. Dean hinted at trying to figure this big, irrational, messy mystery out as far back as 7x17.

No, it seems like... Maybe he’s not only accepted how much he loves Cas, but also accepted that he needs him, that it’s real, irrational, stubborn, and it doesn't seem to go away no matter what went down between them before, or how toxic/poisonous Dean feels, or how many mistakes Cas makes—it's just there. It's a little crazy. It’s not just about survival or soldierly brothers-in-arms or rescuer-rescuee. The thing with Cas defies labels, defies categorization. It’s about something deeper, more profound. It's, as Dean laments in 7x17... unnervingly, consistently different. The writers may have played it off as if Dean wasn’t quite there yet, and for sure that works, especially in a generic reading of Dean, but everything about his actions, his inner turmoil, and the would-be timing of his confession shows that he had figured something big out. And had probably already come to terms with his love for Cas before he ever said it out loud—he just hadn’t found the right moment, or perhaps the courage, to say it. It’s a huge leap for him, but IMHO, one that feels earned, given all of his internal struggles and realizations.

In July 2022, Yuzuru Hanyu held a press conference to officially announce the beginning of a new journey as a professional figure skater. Since then, he has continuously challenged himself, showcasing an awe-inspiring presence on the ice.

Now entering the third season of his professional skating career, during 2024–2025, Hanyu launched the third installment of his personal ice show series, ICE STORY, titled "Yuzuru Hanyu ICE STORY 3rd "Echoes of Life" TOUR."

Last December, the show had its grand opening at Saitama Super Arena. As the new year began, it traveled to Hiroshima in January and then to Chiba in February, with performances held across three cities in total. Every performance was packed with applause and cheers, creating an electrifying atmosphere.

From start to finish, ICE STORY features only Yuzuru Hanyu performing on the ice, which is an innovative concept in itself. In addition, Hanyu personally planned and directed the entire ice show, infusing it with a unique narrative structure. This unprecedented form of ice performance has garnered widespread acclaim.

Echoes of Life is one such production. Set against the backdrop of a desolate, near-futuristic world, the show follows the journey of the protagonist, Nova, portrayed by Hanyu himself. As Nova explores the 'meaning of life' on the ice, the story gradually unfolds. The blueprint for this narrative was also created by Hanyu. How did he craft such a creatively charged work centered around such a fundamental theme?

"To be honest, I’ve always felt that I have limited knowledge and experience. I’m not the kind of person who reads a lot of books. I don’t often engage with artistic forms like movies or musicals. So, when I’m coming up with a story, I’m always in a state of exploration. But I’ve always known that I must prioritize the things I genuinely recognize as beautiful and cherish the things that truly move me and touch my heart. That’s why I often draw inspiration from past experiences, people, and emotions that have touched me deeply. I absorb them, transform them, and express them in my own way," Hanyu said.

His inspiration doesn’t simply come from books but rather from things that have deeply moved him on a personal level. These are rooted in his own experiences and genuine feelings. It’s precisely because of this sincere approach, building on authentic emotions, that he’s able to create works that resonate with the hearts of his audience.

Looking back on this year, Yuzuru Hanyu has released yet another outstanding work. Reflecting on his achievements, he said:

"This year, I’ve gained a lot and encountered many new things. I took about three months of ballet lessons before, but I had never received formal training. When it came to dance, I used to just watch dances I liked and try to imitate them, or I would learn movements from a choreographer and do my best to replicate what the teacher showed me. You could say that, until now, I was someone who only danced based on feeling. During the preparation for Echoes of Life, MIKIKO-sensei, who was in charge of the choreography, taught me the basics of dance performance step by step. Yuzuru Hanyu spent the year fully engaged in meaningful work, and now, after concluding Echoes of Life, he is preparing for his next performance, notte stellata 2025. This series of shows, which began two years ago in his hometown, carries the beautiful vision of "bringing hope to the disaster-stricken areas."

Beyond notte stellata, Hanyu has also actively participated in volunteer activities. Last year, he joined a charity performance to support the recovery of the Noto Peninsula.

"I can genuinely feel the support everyone has given me, and I’ve had the chance to truly connect with the thoughts and feelings of those who are working so hard to move forward," Hanyu said. "Through this process, I’ve come to realize that figure skating alone can’t directly solve any problems. So I have been thinking hard about what I can do to help, and I feel that I am doing my best in every moment to support the activities."

Now, notte stellata 2025 has entered its third edition, and we eagerly await the chance to witness his breathtaking performances with deep emotions on the ice once again.

This year marks the third edition of Yuzuru Hanyu notte stellata. Hanyu has always kept the victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake close to his heart. This time, he will gather with top figure skaters to perform at the Sekisui Heim Super Arena (GRANDI·21) in Miyagi, one of the areas affected by the disaster. Additionally, this year’s show will feature a special guest appearance by Mansai Nomura, who will collaborate with Hanyu in crafting a truly special performance.

Something websites (*cough* Tumblr *cough*) need to learn is that what retains an audience isn't an abundance of new bells and whistles to play with, it's a coherent experience overall.

When someone joins a website, you don't need to grab their attention and hold it. They're already testing the waters. They've agreed to sign up. You've won on that front, and they're there for something specific you already have that they're hoping works well.

What drives them away is frustration.

Frustration, frustration, frustration.

Learning curves are going to be a part of any new website experience; they're something the user comes to terms with, in their own time. But broken or bad features are going to make them jump sites.

On top of that, constantly adding new features makes them feel like all the hard work they've put in to learning what you have isn't worth it; your website looks unstable and your staff looks incompetent, because it gives the impression that you don't know what you're doing.

You are floundering. It makes your new users nervous. It makes your old users hesitate to bring anyone else on board. And why should they? Why should they put effort into it if you're going to throw that effort away next Tuesday? Why get used to a UI that you're not going to bother to keep? Why customize anything if you're going to whittle that customization away?

Between that and the broken, unattended features of this site—the tag organization failing, the inability to look up posts word-for-word, the video player either refusing to play or yanking you to the top of the dashboard, images taking forever to load, advertisements blaring at full volume when you scroll past, you have your problem.

You have the reason why your numbers are failing.

It's not that you're not interesting enough.

It's not that you're too difficult to understand.

It's that you aren't improving what you have, yet you keep adding more half-broken things and unwanted copycat features to the pile.

It's that you're losing your identity in pursuit of a hypothetical perfect customer.

It's that you are actively telling your user base that you prefer those hypothetical customers over them. And your user base, your real people who make you happen, are smart enough to know where your priorities lie.

The bulk of this post talks about Tumblr, but other sites have gone the same way. Twitter is dead and its corpse is decaying in the street. Reddit has sabotaged any trust its users had in its management. If you'd like a really old example—I used to use Fanfiction Net. It's not the most intuitive website in the world, but it was the first one I called home.

I used it to host my works. The adware now on it makes it a hassle to navigate. The bots make comment sections and private messages a dread rather than a joy. So I moved on.

I also used to use it to collaborate on stories with my now-roommate. The message limit was 300 a day. When you're writing dialogue between characters, that's nothing.

So I moved on. We started messaging on Facebook. It was better, it didn't have a limit. But then I learned Discord existed, and I could edit messages, make dedicated channels, etc. So I moved on from Facebook to Discord. And Discord had a steep learning curve, especially if you're trying to make your own server rather than contribute to one. But, most importantly, the payoff was worth it.

If Discord changed its layout every other month while I was learning it, and broke how its reactions worked, and kept shifting what it meant to create a channel? If it opted me into servers I didn't sign up for, in hopes of engagement? If its text never formatted correctly, or its search function only went back a day or two?

I would have gone right back to Facebook. Even if it's a more basic experience, basic is always preferable to unstable.

Figure out what you want, websites.

Slow growth, or a gamble?

You're paying for your magic slot machine in users.

When things are literally unknown and you truly can’t figure out what to do next it may be necessary to clothe yourself in all white to connect with your YANG ! At this specific time I believe there is some unresolved anger needing to come to the surface and Dissipate!! It’s time to move on from an angry space to a space where growth and Purity are present!! Wearing all white is your armor , it will help your spiritual connections way more than you actually think. There are a few things here

You may be someone in the limelight or center of attention without even trying & people really do evil eye you very often, im talking when you step out the “eye” pops out!!! It’s automated at this rate. Totally not your fault your energy is just powerful and magnetic! Very !! So using a spiritual bath with certain herbs will help you to fully release the energy that has been projected onto you ! Even if you wear a certain necklace or bracelet it’s still a necessary step to submerge your whole entire body in water to spiritually cleanse yourself! It’s almost like you get in the shower everyday to cleanse your physical body so it’s important to keep the same energy spiritually! That’s so needed for you guys in this pile. It’s time for a deep / full reset. You will notice after your spiritual bath I’m talking a day after you will feel light as A FEATHERRR ! You may feel intense energy which may come off as heavy, but it takes just a moment for that baggage to clear out ! (As herbs do have different properties and time that they are effective) For you I would always make sure to add a dash of ground coffee to your bath just a pinch I’m talking a sunflower seed amount !! It will help to add a kick to the cleansing process as far as time is concerned!! When it’s a beneficial time for you in life it’s important to also indulge in a spiritual bath ! It shows you are putting your best foot forward in attempt to grow , to change. You may even receive spiritual gifts by doing spiritual baths routinely!!! That’s specific for the type of energy you carry but for the most part doing this long term is so beneficial!!!

YOU & candle work go absolutely hand and hand. This could be something you do regardless , I can see that for a select few of you, you may have used candle 🕯️ magic in the past to invoke a soul mate or to manifest love in your life. I do see here that at some point you were successful and came into “a” union with your mate. Creating a bond attached with a contract!! I believe it’s time for you to utilize candle working with cleansing intentions in mind. White candles specifically!!! But In addition, with black candles there is usually some deeper energy to wipe out! I would start with a black candle with intention to burn out certain energies that may be holding you back or crowding over you in a negative way!! Soon after I would purify and cleanse a white candle and ~purify~ my energy!! Think of a washer machine and the process of putting the clothes in , adding your choice of soap & rinsing a few times , and soon after drying. So This could be a longer process of cleansing but for you..it’s very deep and effective!

You could be an Aries or a Virgo !! Also I’m feeling LEO energy !! You like to utilize a FLAME! And for you it works!! And it feels effective to you. Which is a bonus & all that matters!

There is a specific Range of herbs you are meant to use to cleanse yourself & I feel for a few of you sage hasn’t been as effective for you personally ! No hate against it it’s just that soul wise you haven’t felt any differences regarding how you feel ! So for those who don’t know what herbs are effective for you to smudge with I’m hearing

Frankincense and myryth & Dragons blood! Along with cloves & Cinnamon !!

I’m seeing bay leaves for some ! So there are a bunch of effective herbs for you to smudge with that will help to be effective for you as per your personal ENERGY! Now I’m not saying the sage won’t do what it’s meant naturally ,it just doesn’t seem to be effective for you personally! You smudging in general helps you to release your fears and your self limitations at that VERY MOMENT !!! Pairing your smudges with song or Chants are super powerful ! So powerful !!! It may even release so much energy for you you’ll encounter an emotional reaction & just start sobbing because of it! In the long run it will help you with rejection you experience / experienced!
