hey, I saw a post reblogged around hating the whole idea of no kink at pride and wanted to understand why that was, but noticed the comments were turned off, so I'm asking here. for reference I dont know very much about the subject and had the general idea that pride should be an all ages space, BUT (the but is very important) since I dont have much knowledge on the subject and can see you are very opinionated around it, id like to know why that is your stance from, well, someone who actually holds that stance.
No pressure to answer I simply want to understand why others hold this stance, the potential history behind it and if I am looking at things the wrong way, a chance to change my opinion
I hope all of this comes across correctly because im not trying to start internet discourse, just learn and have a well rounded understanding of a subject before taking a more solid stance
CW: discussion of sex, homophobia, kink, common anti-kink lies
Okay so if you're not read up on queer history, you have to understand that "deviant," "indecent" or "degenerate" sexuality is an accusation that's been used to repress queer people for pretty much as long as the concept has existed. It has often extended so far as to encompass any form of sex that isn't missionary cishet boning for the purpose of procreation, but it has always and by definition encompassed any and all ways that queer people have sex.
Now, I want to be clear that the LGBTQ+ community is not entirely about sex. Our community touches love, passion, art, gaming, basically every sphere of human experience, but it also includes sex. A lot of queer people like to have sex! Queer people, however, are judged for having and enjoying sex in a way that straight people simply aren't.
It's important to note that the concept of "degeneracy" is a vital component to white supremacist repression of queer people, because it inserts the necessary moral proposition that allows sex between two consenting adults to be labelled as harmful. As cynical as I am about the general public, it's actually pretty difficult to convince the average person that gay sex is something the government needs to repress in and of itself; any argument to this effect needs to come packaged with an additional, vaguely credible concern about social corrosion.
This is much easier to do with kinksters, because kinksters are weirder-looking than shirt-and-slacks queers (who, to be clear, are equally valid). But it's still difficult to make the average member of the public balk, because they'll say "well that sure is freaky but so long as they're doing it in private, who gives a shit?" So long as the people you're trying to stir up hate against aren't doing anything illegal, the average member of the public is gonna think you're the weird one for digging into other peoples' private sex lives.
Thus, the easiest avenue of attack is Pride, where it isn't in private. But it's a fucking deceitful canard. Straight people never have to answer for public displays of their sexuality, which are often far more gratuitous than some dude walking around in a pup mask.

Uncovering the Cover-up: How Republican Pennridge School Board Directors Secretly Banned Books
Darren Laustsen | May 28, 2024
Pennridge School District engaged in a massive two-year cover-up of a secret book-banning campaign initiated by two sitting Republican school board directors hellbent on unilaterally purging books without any due process, community input, oversight, or accountability.  According to a sworn Attestation from new Superintendent Angelo Berrios, Ricki Chaikin and Jordan Blomgren ordered school staff to remove books from the library that they had unilaterally deemed were inappropriate. More so, during legal battles over a Right-to-Know request, Pennridge’s law firm, Eckert Seamans, fought to circumvent the state’s Open Records laws and conceal book removals from the public. The scheme involved illegally-doctored public records, the concealment of book removals under fake student accounts, and the eventual disposal of targeted books under the false pretense of librarian “weeding.” …

I know ‘Bummy’ was thrown around pretty early in the Buck & Tommy relationship as a possible ship name. And we were all pretty adamant in saying no.
But does is not feel like a micro-aggression with a healthy heaping of homophobia to have toxic shippers of another couple use it when trying to disparage those who do ship Buck & Tommy?
There is just something about the fact that they have chosen something that feels so much like what someone would say irl to hate on queer people, and they are obviously using it with vitriol and to try to put down the ship.
It’s been something I’ve been thinking on a lot lately when witnessing all the homophobia and hate the past week.

I was going to reblog some of your posts because I wanted to discuss your takes on Mystra, but then I found out you're a Christian conservative who hates gay people.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
No gay person thinks their sexual orientation is their identity, but it's absolutely PART of their identity, just as being straight is part of yours. You can claim otherwise, but it determines who you might love and marry and that person will one day become a part of you and your identity. It's inevitable. As a wife and mother of three, you should know that better than anyone.
But people from groups like yours shame gay people for exploring that part of themselves and that's why Pride Month exists. Pride isn't "propaganda". It's about marginalized people showing the world they exist and they're not ashamed of it. Parades are also a great way for gay people to meet each other. My bestie met her wife at a march 15 years ago and they've been together ever since. It's beautiful. They have two happy, gorgeous children who wouldn't exist without Pride, because their moms never would've met.
Pride also raises money to help gay teens who've been cast out of their homes and gay refugees who've had to flee their country because being gay is illegal there. It also provides support for gay people who need medical help, therapy for abuse, suicide prevention and more. It's a safe space for people who are often discriminated against and even KILLED just for being who they are. So sorry that seems to bother you.
Your take isn't brave, it's just ignorant and hateful. You didn't have to write that post. Nothing provoked it. You just WANTED to to air your allegiances. And then you turned off comments and reblogs lmfao. For the majority of the year, gay people survive just like us straights. They go about their day and don't even mention being gay. You picked the one month in the entire year that's dedicated to them to complain about their existence and call them "deranged". And then you have the audacity to say you "bear no ill will" towards them? Bullshit.
I can only assume the word "pride" scares you because you're a Christian and it's a sin, am I right? Well here's something ironic: lust is also a sin, yet your entire blog not only consists of Gale thirst posts, but you're also stealing Tim Downie's voice to make audio clips using AI. Hmmm, I wonder if God would approve of a married woman posting NSFW content and using a man's voice for her hedonistic writings without his consent. 🤔
And by the way, as a veteran DnD player I can tell you right now that Mystra has done some absolutely VILE shit to her followers. She's not perfect. None of the gods in DnD are. They're flawed and often cruel. I've seen you compare Mystra and Gale to stories in the Bible, but that almost feels blasphemous. Mystra has a history of evil deeds. She orchestrated Elminster's rape, made sure he had kids and never told him about them. She turned Volo into an anchor without his knowledge. She tortured a peasant because he refused to sleep with her, then killed his wife and punished him for crying about it. And don't even get me started on the "daughters" she created. The third Mystra (who has Mystra and Mystryl's memories) is cruel to Gale as well and the game gives so much context for that. Plus ALL the companions agree she's unreasonable and tell Gale to reject her, and if he does it leads to one of his most satisfying endings. He's happy, he's a teacher, he marries tav and everyone approves. Your way of playing isn't the only right way and people aren't wrong for criticizing Mystra. There's plenty about her that deserves to be criticized, as is the case with every god in the pantheon.
Speaking of, I have nothing against Christians, but I do when they use their faith to shame people and act like total hypocrites.

"Why is there so much SEX at PRIDE" and it's just people in outfits that are less revealing than, or equally as revealing as swimsuits, walking around or dancing.
It's a revealing accusation that someone's so homophobic that just the thought of someone having a sex life is offensive to them, even if they, like everyone else, aren't even doing anything sexual in public. Specifically targeted towards queer people at Pride.

this is not a story about homophobia.
this is not a story about forbidden love.
this is not a story that ends in a tragedy because of hatred towards queers.
this is the reality of real queer people from gaza.
people that lost everything because israel want to play god.
it was always so tragic to hear about people who just wanted to love, but they couldn’t because they lived in a homophobic place.
it is even more tragic to understand that this story would’ve ended the same regardless.
“I will kiss you in heaven”
its one of the most heartbreaking things i’ve read in a while.
and i will never understand their pain.
i will never know how it feels, to be too busy not dying because of where you happen to live to care about homophobia.
i will never know what its like to lose the love of your life, not because of your sexual or gender identity. but because of where you happened to be born. knowing that the people who killed them try to use your community, use your identity to justify their death.
if zionism cannot exist in a world where palestinians aren’t scared to die, just because they were born 2 kilometers to the west.
the zionism cannot exist in a world where stories like these exist only in history books.

On twitter you'll report someone for saying "I hope all fags get murdered violently" and a few days later you'll get an email that says "we looked over your report and didn't find anything in violation of twitters rules, sorry 🙂"

Say it with me folks: LGBTQ rights are a good thing!
Yes! Even if you don't like the government those queer people are living in!
No! Putting queer people down, diminishing their value, or belittling any safety they have is not a valid critique of their government!
Yes! You are just being malicious!
No! It's not an ethical form of activism!

As Pride Month begins Saturday, Floridians will notice a vivid difference: Instead of casting rainbows, bridges around the state will only light up in red, white and blue. The DeSantis administration, which issued this year's ban on rainbow lights, is calling it "Freedom Summer."
WHY IT MATTERS: Ever since the headline-making "Don't Say Gay" law, Gov. Ron DeSantis has turned Florida into a test kitchen for anti-LGBTQ+ restrictions that have since spread to other states.
STATE OF PLAY: Florida bans transgender women and girls from participating in sports for female students. Trans people can't use bathrooms at schools and government buildings that match their gender identity.
• Books about LGBTQ+ characters have been pulled from school libraries.
• Minors are barred from receiving gender-affirming healthcare, despite such treatment having support from every major medical group.
• And adults face more hurdles to accessing and getting insurance coverage for transition-related medical care.
THE LATEST: Earlier this year, state agencies barred trans people from changing their driver's license to match their gender identity.
STUNNING STAT: A Human Rights Campaign Foundation survey conducted last fall found 80% of transgender or nonbinary Floridians don't want to stay.
• Some trans people and their families have relocated to more-accepting states. Others have turned to crowd-funding platforms like GoFundMe hoping to do so.
YES, BUT: LGBTQ+ advocates are actually more hopeful than they've been in recent years.
• Judges have gutted key pieces of the DeSantis administration's agenda, blocking the enforcement of a law that tried to crack down on drag shows and another that restricted teachers from using pronouns that align with their gender identities.
The Florida Legislature, meanwhile, had less of an appetite for culture-war bills than in years past.
• All but one of 22 measures with negative implications for gay and transgender Floridians failed, Equality Florida senior policy advisor Carlos Guillermo Smith tells Axios.
WHAT THEY'RE SAYING: "Intense collective opposition" from advocates was responsible for those wins, Guillermo Smith says.
• "LGBTQ+ Floridians are proud, we are resilient, and we're determined to carry on in spite of the governor's obsession with attacking our community for political gain."
THE OTHER SIDE: DeSantis' office has dismissed warnings about Florida's LGBTQ+ hostility as stunts, often while citing record tourism to the state.
WHAT'S NEXT: St. Pete Pride, Florida's biggest Pride celebration, is underway, and its parade is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of people on June 22.

It's like how conservatives regularly insist that businesses have every right to discriminate when deciding who works for them but shit themselves when a business won't hire unvaccinated people.
