{ [...] Some leviathans have been observed using their threat displays to hunt, dazzling their prey into sensory shock before striking. And isn't it mesmerizing? You can't look away. You can't look away. You can't look away. }
forreal tho the whole Point of durarara as a work of art is thhat nobody is wholly good (obviously) OR wholly bad, people are complicated and their relationships with each other and the world are complicated as well
izaya as the closest thing to an antagonist the series has, ALSO serves as mikado's foil- he's the bad end to mikado's story, explicitly becoming that way because he had no true friends- shinra only cared about celty and his parents were never around and thats kind of all he had. he was a young boy with clear mental problems, to the point where his father instilled that people love into him in order to prevent a worse outcome and help him be more normal. the way this is framed, as a young boy exhibiting a concerning disconnect from other people to a point where it scares a usually neglectful father into acting- is very reminiscent of media depictions (and real life examples) of parents worrying that their child is a sociopath. this could very well have been intentional, and narita EXPLICITLY makes a POINT to state that izaya is the way that he is because he has a fragile heart- any sort of genuine effection and a betrayal of it could shatter him. i really dont think the takeaway here was "lolllll hes suchhh a loser" OR "omggg hes so scary hes iredeemable." it's another piece of the central theme that humans are nuanced and messy and conplicated and oftentimes in very unglamorous ways that make them unsympathetic to most people. durarara AS A SHOW is about shining a light onto these people and inviting the viewer to sympathize with them, and if someone doesnt get that and is just disgusted by most of the characters then durarara is not the show for them
also vis a vis izaya and mikado being foils- the reason mikado got a happy ending was because of his friends- because of the connections he has with other people. izaya did not have those connections, hence his own instability drove him farther and farther down into a death spiral that culminated in his CRIPPLING, a major loss of freedom from someone who valued it so much, and i'm saying that as a disabled person
So, rewatching armandaniel scenes til the finale drops, I randomly noticed that when Armand apologizes to Daniel about them bringing up Alice rejecting his marriage proposal, he basically tells Daniel "Louis shouldn't have done that". As if only Louis went into his memories and read his mind.
Does that mean Armand didn't? I always thought this was him reading Daniel's mind, since he's the one who notices and brings it up first:
If he wasn't reading his mind, then how did Armand know Daniel was thinking of his own bad memories of France in that moment instead of Claudia's?
If he wasn't reading it off of his head...was Armand realizing and remembering? As if he was there?
Sure, the next part of him telling Daniel what Alice was feeling was suspicious too and we keep mentioning it since the episode aired. That alone is fishy and fuels all our Alice theories. But Armand basically implying he didn't go into Daniel's memories is crazy, then how the fuck did he realize where Daniel's mind was going with "France sucks"?
Watching The Body after loosing a parents is definitely something else. Its truly a masterpiece of an episode that captures death in a way that's so shockingly realistic. This is a show where our main characters regularly fight vampires and demons, it's so different from the rest of the show. It's confusing in a way death usually is.
Like you feel immediately this isnt a normal episode. The lighting is off, there is no music. The whole stylisation of the episode kinda sepperates you from whats happening, its stark and bleak. And most importantly, there is no metaphor; it's just human
The acting is incredible. Its the first episode willow and tara kiss and its so beautiful. Anya’s whole “why” monologue hits so good (her saying she wishes joyce didn't die, like she is a vengeance demon, wish is such a strong word for her), it's such a great representation of the utter confusion that comes with death. Tara and buffys conversation. Like it's all so well done.
My mom died a month ago and i have felt so lost since. Like im living in the same house she died in, im eating from the plates she ate from, im typing this on the phone she baught for me, im rewatching buffy on her old dvd’s. Im doing the exact same things i used to do before, exept she's not here anymore and feels so wrong, i feel wrong and i think this episode helped me understand myself in a way. If that makes sense.
Art is truly such a wonderful way to put things in your life into perspective, things that you might not understand yourself. Idk i just love this episode.
Pic context: Talking about the exy stadium at USC considering the fact that USC is a real school
I love how Nora just invents things in order to avoid complications with real-life things.
Like, using USC's football stadium as the exy stadium too would take a lot of work to figure out how that would be possible. Solution: invent a new stadium!
Having the characters play a real sport that already exists would mean looking into all the rules and regulations and history, etc, and there could be multiple elements of the sport that work against the plot of the story or complicate it in some way. Solution: invent a new sport!
I mean, it gives her full creative control over what happens in the story, and we as readers get to learn about a cool new thing without feeling the need to fact-check every element. Tbh, it makes so much sense to me.
Like, go off! Make stuff up! It's your world. We're just reading and enjoying and becoming obsessed with it!!!
"Have you ever seen [Barkov] fall? Has he ever fallen? He's never fallen his entire career!"
"Uh—It's, uh, funny and I don't know if he'll care that I say this, but he's got those—he doesn't like the blades that you can snap in and out quickly. So when he needs to get his skates done in the middle of a game, he's gotta fully take off his skates, get 'em sharpened and retie them up—which is like one of the few guys in the league, I think, that still do that. So sometimes he'll have absolutely no edge, and he'll just find a way to, like, compensate and get through it—which is incredible."
"That kind-of sucks though 'cuz that's like a bad dream to have. You're waiting on something else, like—even if the trainers just like snapped it back in or whatever, like maybe they had something different they can put in there. He probably wouldn't even know!"
"[...] this guy's particular. He knows his game and he's goddamn good at it! And we don't say a word so!"
"'Barky, we need you out there for the face off! There's two seconds left!'"
"That's what I mean! He'll compensate and he'll still look better than all of us! Like if any of us had no edge like that, we'd be screwed, right? And he goes out there and does the Barky things that he does. We're all grateful for it! He's been getting me paid for 10 years now, so."

Ahsoka is probably the person everyone means when they say “I know a guy”. Girl knows a bunch of senators, some ragtag rebels, many criminals, a handful of Imperialists, and a couple other random people dotted across the galaxy. If you ever need to find someone, you just call Ahsoka. Chances are high that she knows exactly who they are. Chances are even higher that she knows someone else who knows them. She runs around enough that it’s not that hard for her to just ram into them. Her one exception is Ezra Bridger, because apparently knowing a guy personally means it’s impossible to find him for over a decade.
red team are FULLY going feral im so here for it, cellbit vouching for cannibalism and getting excited, baghera wanting to build a dirt shack and everyone wanting to crawl into a cave and chase people through the woods
was watching springwatch last night and there was a rly cool thing about the capercaillies and trying to help them repopulate via providing carcasses for the pine martens (who were successfully reintroduced) so that they'll eat that and not the capercaillie eggs. and thats very very cool if itll work. also 3 birds 1 stone, because you can use the invasive deer for food, feed the pine martens, and protect capercaillie nests all in one
I honestly don't want people who are neutral about chihiro interacting w my works of her. i don't find transmisogyny just silly fandom discourse that doesn't matter and there is endless recourses on WHY she is written transmisogynistically and atp if you choose to adhere to a canon that kicks transfemininity down instead of taking time to learn abt bigotry in media you enjoy that is. your own choice. but i will be blocking you
