Ratchet, being interviewed: β€œI’ve seen the horrors of war. I’ve seen countless bots die in the battlefield, in space, in my arms. I’ve see bots being blown up, eviscerated, decapitated, drawn and quartered, tortured, beaten, and vivisected before my optics, but there is one thing I fear above all else.”
Human, coming in for the fourth time that week with an interfacing related injury: β€œHey, Ratchet, it’s your favorite patient!”
Ratchet: β€œPrimus, if you exist somewhere out there, take me now…”
β€”
Meanwhile, Rung in his office alone: ”Hmm? Oh strange, I thought someone called for me…Oh well.”
Continues his work from before.

Become Your Best Version Before 2025 - Day 14
Career and Purpose
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After diving into financial planning yesterday, let's talk about something that's deeply connected to both our financial and emotional wellbeing, our career and sense of purpose. And no, I'm not going to tell you to "follow your passion and the money will follow" because real life is usually more complicated than that!
You know that feeling when someone asks "What do you want to do with your life?" and your brain just goes blank? Yeah, me too. The truth is, finding your purpose isn't like ordering from a menu, it's more like cooking a meal from scratch, with lots of experimenting and adjusting along the way.
So how do we start untangling this career and purpose puzzle? Instead of throwing inspirational quotes at you, I'm going to share some practical steps that'll help you gain clarity. Take what resonates, leave what doesn't, and adapt everything to your unique situation.
Understanding Your "Why"
Take a moment to think about what lights you up. Not what looks good on LinkedIn or what your parents want – but what makes YOU come alive. Maybe it's:
Solving complex problems
Helping others learn and grow
Creating beautiful things
Building connections between people
Making systems more efficient
Notice I didn't say "become a teacher" or "be an artist." We're starting with the essence, not the job title.
The Values Compass Exercise
Grab a piece of paper and write down:
Three times you felt truly fulfilled at work or in a project
What specifically made those moments special
The common threads between these experiences
Bridging the Gap
Maybe you're in a job that doesn't perfectly align with your purpose right now. That's okay! Here's how to work with that:
Find small ways to incorporate your values into your current role
Start a side project that feeds your soul
Learn new skills that move you closer to your goals
Network with people in fields that interest you (coffee conversations can be virtual!)
The Purpose Puzzle Pieces
Your career doesn't have to fulfill ALL your purpose needs. Sometimes having a stable job that you're good at can give you the foundation to pursue meaningful activities outside of work. Think about:
Volunteer opportunities
Mentoring others
Community involvement
Creative hobbies
Personal projects
Taking Action (Without Quitting Your Job Tomorrow)
The Skills Audit: Make two lists
What you're good at
What you want to be good at Then pick ONE skill to develop this month
The Micro-Experiments Approach: Instead of making huge leaps, try small tests:
Shadow someone in a role you're curious about
Take an online course in a new field
Volunteer for projects that stretch you
Start a tiny side project
The Network Garden: Plant seeds for future opportunities:
Reach out to one person doing work you admire
Join online communities in your areas of interest
Share your learning journey on LinkedIn or other platforms
Offer to help others whenever you can
Remember, purpose is a Journey, Not a Destination. Your sense of purpose might evolve over time, and that's beautiful! The key is to stay curious and keep taking small steps forward.
The "Not To-Do" List
Sometimes knowing what you DON'T want is just as valuable as knowing what you do want. Give yourself permission to:
Say no to opportunities that don't align with your values
Let go of career paths that others chose for you
Change your mind as you learn and grow
Take time to figure things out
Your mission for today
Write down three activities that make you lose track of time
Think of one small way to bring more of these elements into your current work
Reach out to someone whose career path interests you
See you tomorrow for Day 15! Don't forget, your career is a huge part of your life, but it doesn't define your whole worth. You're already valuable, purpose or no purpose. We're just working on expressing that value in a way that feels meaningful to you.

Did Les ever dated in the past? Also is he with anyone recently?
Les quit school really early, like 10-years-old early, and he started working soon after, so he didn't really have friends his age. That kinda puts a buffer on a teenager's social and love life. Though there was something that happened at a house party once, that was, uh... a bad experience, and it left him with a lot of issues. Also, partially because of this, he's not really someone who acts on his crushes. So he never dated before.
But at one point the band spent a few months in the same location (dunno the reason yet, but maybe they weren't getting enough gigs and they had to take up some part time jobs for a while), and Les developed a crush on a bartender at a nearby club.
Tumblr media
She's the only OC of mine who's visually a bigger weirdo than Les, and he definitely saw a little bit of himself in her, and hoping for someone with some shared life experience, it's what initially attracted him toward her and vice versa.
Tumblr media
So they had a thing going on for a short time. It never developed into anything serious because sadly they are very alike, which means they are BOTH morons who are shy about making the first move. And after a while they came to the agreement that they were better as just friends.
Floyd with his persistent crush was not happy about the possible romance at first, but he ended up being happy for Les, and he finally decided to give his hopeless longing a rest, since the only good it was doing was growing a rift between his and Les's friendship.
Funny enough it was Floyd backing down which allowed the two to grow closer. Les lowered his guard since he no longer had to overthink if Floyd would interpret anything he did or said as some kind of flirting or act of love, and he no longer had to brace himself for any uncomfortable romancing coming from Floyd either.
Tumblr media
They were already good friends since the start but they became much more casual with each other and began to understand each other on a deeper level as years passed. As Floyd got older and more mature, and became an equal with the rest of the bandmates, it was actually Les who fell for him, hard. He didn't really do anything about it though, but Floyd eventually realized this and you know he did something about it. Though Floyd's crush had gone from looking at Les as this cool experienced older guy when he was younger to now seeing him as a shy innocent teddy bear compared to his lewd self ksjhdkjs.
So technically they became each other's first proper all-encompassing relationship. And by that I mean that besides the lovey-dovey obvious stuff, they were also best friends and helped each other grow a lot. Also Floyd by the time they got together, already started a habit of hooking up with strangers at parties, so being with Les forced him to slow down and progress through a relationship slowly and at a healthy pace for someone his age (since you can't really get anywhere with Les without a lot of patience). And Floyd got Les to become comfortable with opening up and talking about his deep-rooted feelings. They talked about issues they faced, many of which were related to Les's childhood trauma, instead of him just ignoring or suppressing it all. (Floyd also opened up about his own family trauma with Les obviously, but he talked about it even before they got together.)
The relationship, especially at the start, could still be considered questionable from an outsider's perspective, but so was the band's lifestyle in general. They were good for each other during that period while they were growing up and figuring themselves and each other out, which is what matters I think.
Tumblr media
It was honestly mainly Floyd's undiagnosed bipolar disorder that made the relationship suffer toward the end of Floyd's days in the band. It created a lot of trust issues between Floyd and Les, and also Floyd and everyone else, heck it even made Floyd distrust himself, since he and none else knew or understood what was happening with him. This led to a lot of misery and anger that he mostly ended up directing at Les, and it was what eventually made them break up and Floyd leave.

Rewatching season one reminded me that Taissa Turner was such strong, complex, well written character in both timelines and highlights how the writers failed her in season three. Taissa in the adult timeline had one of the most interesting stories, running for office which brought her trauma back up and restarted her battle with her primal self that took over during the campaign. Tai is shown to be ambitious but seems genuinely want to make change and genuinely tries to be a good wife and mother until it’s revealed that her other self is traumatising her son and sacrificing the family pet to win the election. Tai’s refusal to get help, despite her wife’s insistence and despite the fact they’ve had to put her young son in therapy because of his own trauma highlights the harm that not addressing your past and your trauma can cause yourself and the people around you. Something that is a major theme of the adult timeline, where everyone is still stuck in their teenage mindset and (unintentionally) hurting others because of their inability to self reflect.
Taissa is also shown to be a fundamentally good person. Taissa pays probably hundreds of thousands sending Nat to the best rehab, something she had no obligation to do but she knows what Nat went through out there, she knows Nat took on the burden of Javi’s death, Ben’s death, failing to get them rescued before Mari, Hannah and at least three others died out there - Tai also had a role in these traumas (suggesting the hunt, prosecuting Ben, choosing to stay) and I feel like her continuously helping Nat when the world had written her off as a lost cause s her way of taking accountability. Her conversation with Shauna in the car is very telling. In the teen timeline, it’s Tai that insists on going to the lake, being the first to take action and show leadership skills in the wilderness, it’s Tai that figures out Shauna is pregnant and supports her autonomy, Tai is the first to take action to look for rescue and if it wasn’t for her shadow self taking over I feel like Tai would have been a good option because she was already the first to take on the leadership role after the crash.
Now looking back on season three Tai seems to have taken more of a backseat in the teen timeline and I partially blame the ten episode format for this because we needed to dedicate more time to developing Mari and Akilah and it’s a large ensemble cast, particularly in the teen timeline which is sharing these 10 hours with the adult timeline. We still could’ve had more of Tai’s friendship with Shauna as Shauna progressively got worse , we could have had Tai showing concern for Akilah given that they became friendly and there was solidarity between them due to them being two of the only black girls (which the actresses had to ask to be included in the story). Adult Tai’s story is a bit more complicated. I understand that other Tai had taken over and this is why her character revolves around Van all season but there should’ve been more focus on how this impacted Tai, she was trapped in her own body and mind, Taissa herself is not actually getting to be with Van, losing her son, her career. We don’t get any storyline about Tai or Van as individuals outside of their relationship with each other. We also don’t get anymore answers on who or what other Tai or really understand what happened there, I suspect both Tai’s merged when Tai ate Van’s heart, which was not just an act of love but an attempt at breaking the dissociative barrier that prevents Tai from remembering everything that happened out there. As for the mystery that is other Tai it doesn’t seem like the writers understand what really went on with Tai themselves other than the fact that they confirmed she does not have DID (because it would be an offensive, inaccurate portrayal)
I’ve also noticed that Tai has started to be treated as more of a villain by part of the fandom as of late, when earlier in the show she was definitely shown to be a good person that looked out for the people she cares about but also had a ruthless side. Other Tai, a character we still don’t fully understand thanks to the writing, isn’t a representative of who Tai is as person nor she an β€œevil” alter ego given that she seems to protect Tai and genuinely loves Van. Taissa Turner is another complex, tragic character who I really hope the writing improves on next season.
